Speaker 1 (00:37):
Anchor's up sells it folk. Welcome to the Sleep Cast
A Din Tikhoky Jared.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
How are you doing today?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Doing good? Doing good, doing good? Kyle, It's it's time
for a bit of fleet chaos. We have we crammed.
If you watched us last year or listened to us
last year, we basically took two of our shows and
crammed them into this one show, which means combined what
you used to be Colgia chaos and sloop picks just
into Cleegia chaos. Now why is any of that important? Uh,
(01:08):
that's important because we need to we need to go.
We crammed two hour long episodes into one episode. That's
a new tradition. That's tradition. And let's get going.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Crack that beer, chug it down, and let's get going.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Tier list, it's not necessary, all right here, all right,
let's do our Oh we're going to do our snippick, sirs,
or do you want to do it?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:35):
I just maybe forgot to open the tier list. That's all.
Put attention to the man behind the curtain real quick.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
There we go, Yes, I tell him.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Let's just let's go back to this screen, all right, Kyle,
talk for a moment.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Sure, so a lot. Wow, jeez, thanks, So what gave me?
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Do it?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
I just start all right when you need help, you
to start doing it.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Yeah, we had some had some close games last weekend
Clemson Troy, Georgia escaping with a with a win. There,
yeah we're good now. Oh okay, well I was getting
ready into it, but sure, all right, here's our tier list. Oregon,
(02:28):
Ohia State, Miami, l s U, Penn State, and Texas
are in our S tier, USF No dire Dame, Florida State, Georgia,
South Carolina, and Arizona State. We're in our A tier.
So how we do our tier list? For those who
haven't listened to us SNA are combined to twelve teams
(02:51):
aka the twelve team playoffs. Anybody, any amount of teams
could be an S or A tier, but both have
to be combined with twelve. Yeah, so, Jared, let's just
start off with the with the loss of Arizona State,
and can we start with.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
For the sake of making the tierless not look like
the jumbled mess that it already is. It would help
if we started at the top. And I want to
talk about Penn State and I want to talk about Texas.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Okay, Okay, Oregon stays they demolish Oregon, Oregon Oklahoma State
a state took care of business. Miami yep, no concerns there,
and well l s U Yeah, sure, they won twenty
three to seven over Louisiana Tech. Is that taking care
(03:43):
of business?
Speaker 1 (03:45):
They still have a top ten win however.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
They do, Yes, yep so, and then Texas. Texas took
care of San Jose State as well, thanks to the defense.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Thanks to the defense, Yes, twenty one of their twenty
eight first half points were directly off of turnovers. That
needs to be said. I think their offense has some
legitimate dishes, and quite frankly, I think Penn State's offense
also has. Like their defense is great, it was great
before Noles got there. Knowles is probably just gonna make
(04:19):
them even better, but their offense is still just lackluster.
So I kind of put Texas and Penn State into
a similar boat. Are their offenses right now and their
offense is good enough that we consider them as tier Still?
(04:42):
Are are they elite football teams? Are they actually favorites
to win it all?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I'd say yes. I would say yes. Texas still is that.
I think they have the offense to get it done.
Their defense obviously is going to keep him games. I
think they can. Yes, I think ultimately Texas can. Yes,
they got they they got really good running backs. I really,
I really do like Texas running backs Manning. I mean,
(05:16):
Manning still needs to still needs to improve. And I'll
just publicly say this, I'm tired of hearing the oh
man Maning's young. He's going to get this his third year.
This is his third year in college. This year when.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
He's had starts under his belt. He has actual game
reps under his belt. He is not that young.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Sorry, yep, correct, I'm gonna they're they're on the edge
to me on S to A tier, but I'll keep
them in S tier one more week. Well we'll see
how the future.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
At Texas State.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
So Penn State, but your thoughts about just the day.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
A lot like just a lot. It's basically the same
as Texas. I think they're just underperforming and that I'm
putting that mostly on their offense. Now, I really do
like Penn State's running backs. Penn State does have a
great running back room, but they their passing game leaves a.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Lot to Yeah, Drew allers were accustomed to seeing.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
He also doesn't have much in the way of receivers
to help him out in his defense. Fair, but the
passing game is lacking.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yes, and they took care of business thirty four nothing
over Florida International. Yes, only ten points in the first
half and then they they laid it on the second half.
I still keep them with S tier just because I
think they have what it takes to win at all
I so, yeah, I keep them in S tier.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Now, all right, let's get down to A tier. We have, Okay, Georgia,
South Carolina and Arizona State. Now I want to talk
about Arizona State within the larger context of the Big
Twelve because, as this is essentially a playoff projection, if
(07:14):
we remove Arizona State from the A tier, we are
down to four conference champions, and we need five conference champions.
So we need five conferences represented in either S or A.
So I have basically, I don't think anyone. We have
(07:41):
USF up there, which represents the American Conference, and I
don't think there's anyone outside of the American Conference.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
It basically it has to come from the Big Twelve
at this point, yep.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
And at this point it's got to be the cyclones.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
The cyclone yep.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
I mean they already have they have they already have
a top twenty victory over Kansas State, and I guess
it's week zero. In week zero, Yeah, granted that's they
on Kansas.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Kansas State has kind of shown that they weren't deserving
of that rank since that loss.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Fair, But then if you look at the other teams,
Utah and Texas Tech, they don't have as great a
victories as Iowa.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
State not has not powerful but not that B.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Why you've beaten B? Why you not?
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Not anyone sparticular?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
I still stand by my case Iowa State, Kansas State
and Iowa two power four teams. Texas has it hasn't
been any power four teams. And Utah beat a terrible
O U C L A team, and B A B
YU beat a terrible Stanford team.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Have you seen how bad Texas Tech has beaten the
or the admittedly terrible teams they've beaten. Have you seen
how bad Texas Tech has beaten those teams?
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Sure, but we don't. I don't know anything about about them. Still, Like,
let me tell you.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
This about teases. Let me tell you this about Texas Tech.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Ahead your screen again, Jerry.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
It was my it was my monitor or my camera.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Let me tell you their business as they should, but
Texas Tech, let me learned from them.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Texas Tech won the Transfer Portal. That's what I'm gonna
tell you about Texas Tech. They outspent and out recruited
in the Transfer Portal this year. They're a totally new team.
They are. And again I will acknowledge that the teams
(09:55):
they have beaten weren't impressive teams, but that they slaughtered
both of those teams is impressive, especially when we have
teams like Georgia and South Carolina and some of these
other teams who have looked really unimpressive against really sure teams.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Sure, but I think right now, what we'll see how
they do in these next couple of weeks here they Yes,
I think you can put them on that border there
in my opinion, border of maybe going to the A
tier in our in our tier list here. But I
got to go off of resume and how how the
teams have done so far, and I got to give
the edge to Iowa State right now over over Texas Tech.
(10:37):
Texas Tech stays in the B tier. But I mean
if Iowa State slips up and then up goes Texas Tech,
simple was that.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
All right?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
So that means that Arizona State, after losing this last weekend,
falls down so in the hunt, still still outside the
playoff bubble, but I think they stay in the B tier.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, I mean it is worth noting that their loss
was a non conference loss.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
M m, yep, they're they're they're right in it. They're
they're right in it. South Carolina beat South Carolina State.
They stayed, they stay in the A tier. Yeah. I
mean more unimpressively is Georgia. I worry. I worry for Georgia, Jared.
(11:31):
They struggled heavily over APG. They struggled their quarterbacks. Stockton
had to continue to throw well into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
It was not a good game against Austin p Their
Week one wasn't impressive either.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
No can kind of you.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
I'm kind I'm kind of itching to get Illinois up
into a tier. Maybe this week is not the week
to do it, but I'm kind of itching to get Georgia.
Not necessarily Georgia out of a tier, but because I
think I think we could make a good case for
(12:22):
South Carolina as well. I think they have terrible offensive issues.
I think Georgia has terrible offensive issues. Yeah, and I
kind of I kind of got Illinois down here, kind
of got Illinois down here looking like they deserve a
spot up in a tier.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
That's all I'm saying status quo there.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Yes, I would, I would say keep it for right now. Uh,
maybe some upsets this weekend, There's there's some there's some
interesting games here that would would shake up our our tier.
But I think I think right now with our with
how we have sn a tier. I like that. So again,
for those that don't see the visual s, Tier Oregon,
(13:09):
Ohio State, Miami, l s U, Texas, Penn State, two
favorites to win it all in Jerre Andi's mind, and
then in a tier USF Notre Dame, Florida State, Iowa State,
South Carolina, and Georgia in no particular order.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
All Right, we need to get through this next part
very quickly. I have teams to potentially kick out of
B tier and down into CE tier. Sure Michigan who lost,
SMU who lost in Florida who lost?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Sure? Let's let's let's talk about the winner. So Oklahoma
up to be Tier, Utah up to be tier. No,
no issues with no issues with that. I don't think
there's any other teams looking looking at the list here
that I think could potentially go up to B tiers.
So let's just let's just keep B tier as it is,
(14:00):
things that we potentially potentially moved down or keep into
B tier. As Jared said, Michigan uh s m U
in Florida. So what's your thoughts about SMU.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Uh, Well, as we've stated, I think we're I think
the Big Twelve is definitely going to place a team,
but I think they're also definitely going to place one team.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
I like.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Texas Tech more than I like them. I like Arizona
State more than I like them. I like Iowa State
more than I like them. And their loss, unlike Arizona
State's loss this past weekend was a conference loss. The
there there oh and one in conference, and I think
(14:50):
you have to win that conference in order to make
the make the playoffs if you're SMU kind of knocking
them out of the for right now.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
For me, their loss wasn't in conference. They lost the
Baylor sm using a CC excuse.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Me.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I got confused on that. Excuse me for thinking that
the Texas teams in the Big twelve for a moment.
That's my bad. Okay, I still don't like I still
don't like them as a play even as a playoff
bubble team, even from an acc perspective. You got Miami
(15:28):
and Florida State who both look better right now, and
looks better right now.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
I'm offensive issues as well too. Yeah, so I'm fine
moving SMU down. I have no issues moving SMU down.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
All right.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
It kind of looks like I'm while here, but I'm
not well.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
While we're at it, Let's let's just add Florida. Let's
ad Florida down there too.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Yeah, I mean they Florida has a chance to redeem
themselves this week.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
They got, Yeah, they got, they got. They got almost
a like a playoff run type of Florida schedules.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Florida schedules and mess time and Michigan.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Offensively. I think this is we're finding a trend here, Jared.
All these teams were like moving down or talking about
have offensive issues. Same thing with the the the Cheers
Up North team. They they have offensive issues, whether it's
the coordinator, whether It's just I don't know. That Oklahoma
(16:43):
game was just terribly offensively for for the Wolverines, and Okay,
in Oklahoma just kept them in it, like they made
dumb penoties, dumb turnovers, dumb decisions to keep them in
Like Oklahoma should have put that game away. So credit
credit to that to the Wolverines for for their defense
(17:04):
getting keep them in the game. But offensively they're a
mess right now, So yeah, putting them down to CTR
would agree.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Okay, that's that's it for the tier list.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
All right, awesome, All right, with that, we'll take our
first ad break. The slowcast dot Com is your go
to link anything and everything sloop cast related. Here. You
can find our picture on page picture aunt, the sloopcast
dot com, discord page, YouTube, merch seventy seventy one, Spotify,
and much much more. You can find all of those
(17:39):
links and more over at the sloop cast dot Com.
We'll take our ad break real quick and be right
back for some sloop picks.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
All right, Kyle, it is time to do our slop picks,
but real quick before we do that, last week, I
win the week in the show sloop Picks. I had
five correct answers, you had four correct answers, and our
guest picker, sun Card had had just one. Our webpicks
(18:16):
winner of our online CBS webpics was Spikes, who is
frequently down in the chat during the live shows. So
that's our current standing, all right, All right, now, let's
get to our picks.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
All right, let's kick them off here. Georgia Tech first
game noon in Atlanta, taking on Clemson, where Clemson is
a four and a half point favorite. I'll go ahead
and start us off here, Jared, let me let me
go to my page. Make sure I'm saying them right. Yes,
(19:00):
briefly mentioned before the ad. Offensively, I think Clemson's struggling defensively.
I think Clemson has a really really good defense. But man,
there they're offense. I feel I don't feel very confident
about you put up twenty seven points against against Troy,
(19:22):
you put up ten points against LSU. Yeah, but LSU
a good team, understand, But looking at those numbers, like Clemson,
CLEMBS has got a fine identity. Maybe they'll maybe a
they'll do it in this in this game here, but
it isn't Atlanta, and I I like Georgia Tech to
cover in this one, Jared, I really did. I like,
(19:45):
I just don't trust Clemson on the road and trying
not trying to put together a well rounded game. I
think this is going to be just a dog fight
and may come down to the last possession here. So
I'll take I'll take the the Yellow Jackets to cover.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Yeah, I've just even when even when Clemson has been
the better team, they've not shown it as far as
like a point, like they're playing teams close. Is kind
of what Clemson looks like to me right now. So
even if they end up winning and winning like in
a way that feels comfortable, I don't necessarily think that's
(20:27):
gonna translate to a lot of points. So I agree,
I'm gonna I'm gonna take Georgia Tech as well.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
All right, all right, next game here, next game here,
we got Wisconsin traveling down to Tuscaloosa to take on
the Crimson Tide of Alabama. Noone kickoff, and Alabama is
a twenty and a half point favorite.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
And Kyle, it's a lot of points. In Kyle, that
is not enough.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
I agree, I agree that is not enough. The twenty
twenty five season trend here offensively, Wisconsin is a mess.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
They're not that great. They're not that great defensively either.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Mm hmm. I mean, yes, they shut out Miami. Yes,
the only they only let up ten points to Middle Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
But I'm sorry who.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Middle Tennessee?
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
The Blue Raiders. You don't know about Middle Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
I do. I'm emphasizing the point that they allowed Middle
Tennessee to score ten points on them. Okay, but no,
you're right y, it's mostly an offensive issue with.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
With Alabama, like playing at home, if again, taking who
Alabama played last weekend, but if for what we saw offensively,
what Alabama did last week last weekend, putting up seventy
three points to a team that they should be putting
up seventy three points on. Yeah, yeah, And this might
(22:09):
be a this might be a long game, and it needs.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
To be said, and it needs to be said that we
don't really know how to contextualize the Florida State.
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Loss yet.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Because both Alabama and Florida State have played each other
in a cupcake. Yeah, so we don't we Is Florida
State much better than expected? Is Alabama much worse than expected?
Somewhere in between? We don't really know how to contextualize
that loss yet.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Yep, all right, next game here, This is probably maybe
the game game of the U of the week. Here
Georgia and Tennessee three point thirty kickoff and Georgia on
the road is a four and a half point favorite. Yeah,
(23:05):
I believe it is my pick here. Let me just
go to my notes through real quick here. I I
know I mentioned earlier Georgia. Georgia has been struggling offensively Tennessee.
Tennessee has just been putting up a ton of points
(23:26):
again with lesser, lesser opponents.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Yeah, pretty bad teams, Yeah, pretty.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Bad teams, but they're but they're putting away teams that
they should versus like Georgia's kind of kind of struggling,
they're just kind of just getting by, getting by with
with by the teams that they're playing here. I think
this is I think kind of like the Georgia Tech
Clemson game. I think this is going to be a
dog fight, uh at at home here. Tennessee. I feel
(23:53):
is really really good about their about their their quarterback,
and I think I think I'll take the points here.
I'll take take the volunteers here, four and a half
points yeah, if even if Georgia wins by a field
goal here, Yeah, I'll I'll take I'll take Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Yeah, here's a trend I've noticed about Georgia for the
past couple of years, and will it continue this season.
We don't necessarily know, But for the past couple of years,
Georgia has incredibly underperformed against bad teams, but when it
when it came time to play a big opponent, they
(24:36):
always kind of turned it up a notch. And that's
that's been a pattern of theirs for the past couple
of years. I'm gonna I'm gonna take a bit of
a gamble here and assume that that pattern continues, and
I'm gonna take Georgia even while giving up four and
a half points.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Okay, all right, another Florida on.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
My game matchup here, this is this is my game of.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
The week, Miami in South Florida, South Florida, looking to
knock off their third ranked opponent for the year. Just
just just think about that there. Yeah, they've already they've
already knocked off all two of their opponents so far this.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Year who were ranked in the top twenty five.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
They were Yeah, so Miami in this Miami in this game,
Jared four thirty kickoff, say sixteen and a half point,
favorite sixteen and a half and Jared, yeah, well it
is your pick.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
But Gowheed, I'm I'm gonna ride the hot hand. I'm
gonna I'm gonna ride the hot hand. Give me the bulls.
It feels it also like I just Miami is just
(26:15):
one of those teams that's perpetually back but not and
I and I'll acknowl Texas is actually back. Usc However,
what they what have they won so far? They were
legitimately the second best team in college football last year.
(26:36):
I mean, you know what I mean, But go on,
I get it. But yeah, it's Miami. Always feels like.
It feels like Miami is always really highly ranked at
the beginning of the year and then slip. Why not
this week? Why not South Florida after they've already knocked
(27:00):
off two ranked teams? Why not? If you're giving me
sixteen and a half points.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Yeah, why not?
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Give me.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
I'll take the bulls as well too. Just just imagine
if we were betting at the current spread right now, Jared,
So right now. When CBS locked it in, it was
sixteen and a half right now the spread, Jared, it's
eighteen and a half.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
A lot of money must have come in on South Florida. Nope,
other way around, a lot of yeah, come in on Miami.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
I feel a lot more comfortable with eighteen and a half,
but sixteen and a half. Sure, let's roll the die.
Let's roll the dice on one more time with South Florida.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Arkle, we need we needed these next three pretty quickly.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Sure, Notre Dame and Texas A is our next one.
Notre Dame six and a half point favorite. It is
my pick here. I think Notre Dame had just a
bad timing for them. They lose their first game, they
have a bye week, so they have a lot to
(28:18):
plan for for this Texas and m game. I think
we're to come out and just dominate. I think Notre
Dame defensively really good. I think they're gonna have a
good game plan. They have two weeks of prep here.
I'll take Notre Dame to cover.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
I don't feel like I know who either of these
teams are yet. They're obviously both very talented, but I
don't feel like I have a good feel for either
of them yet, So I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna take
the underdog, give me the aggies.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Okay, all right, And the last one for today's show
is LSU and Florida Florida heading on over to Tiger
Stadium the Baton Rouge. LSU is a nine and a
half point favorite. Who do you got, Jared?
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Nine and a half points? Okay, So once again I
kind of talked about with Alabama and Florida State, how
we really don't know how to contextualize that game yet.
Kind of feel like the same thing for Florida. What
if South Florida actually is just really good? What if
(29:35):
what if that was a very close game against a
very good team. It's yeah, I again, I don't really
know how to contextualize that yet. So nine and a
half points, I don't I still don't trust Brian Kelly
all that much. I'm gonna go with Florida.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I don't trust Florida. I think they have a lot of.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I don't trust. I don't trust Florida either, but I
trust nine and a half.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
I'll go with the I'm gonna go with the home team.
I'll go with the home team on this one. Went
in doubt pick the quarterback. I'll take LSU to cover
in this one.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Fair enough, now, Kyle, zero details because we'll cover that
in the next show. One word answer, Ohio State minus
thirty two and a half against Ohio One word answer.
Who's your pick? Brutus and no, I guess I'll go
(30:46):
with Buckeye, right, all right?
Speaker 2 (30:50):
All right, and quickly, Jared, are chaos theory pick? As
we are running out of time here. I got some
points last week with my pick of Mississippi State up
with the upset. Duke was close. I was close, but yeah,
(31:11):
there was a lot of close ones this last weekend.
So who do you? Who do you got Jared? For
this week?
Speaker 5 (31:29):
Not?
Speaker 1 (31:30):
I don't have a ton of confidence that this team's
gonna pull it off, but the point value is insane
if they do. Sure, here's and I'll choose rank number three.
So what does that equal as far as points goes?
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Twenty three?
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Yeah, twenty three. So again I think there are more.
I think they are more, I do, But that's that's
a huge point total.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
M all right for me? For fourteen points, Jared, I'm
going to take the Yellow Jackets and upset in Atlanta
over Clemson.
