Acres upisodes at four.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Welcome to this sleep can't side.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Or even don't getting good good?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Always get that.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
That's what we record these episodes in one night. I
don't have any whitty banter at the top, Val, do
you have any witty banter?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
You used to want to get the I want a
fresh out.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Fresh out of windy whitty banter.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Just four weeks ago, we would have thought this would
have been like a yeah, two and a half point
spread or something. Instead we had an extra zero in it,
and it's a twenty and a half point spread. Yeah,
how about that. So let's get to know our enemy,
the Penn State, not our rival Nitney Lyons coming into
(01:38):
this game.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Be on it.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Gonna just be honest here, Jared, Like you look at
the numbers, especially as a team. As a team, sure,
it's not terrible. It's not great, but it's not terrible.
Thirty eighth in the country in points per game offensively,
defensively thirty third points per play, twenty three offense, thirty
(02:02):
eight defense. It's it's not a terrible team.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
They just.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, they just had a very very rough last four
games here and now and now that they are without
their head football coach, and we got to see, Hey,
let's let's see if they see if they can have
some magic like UCLA did. Nope, they go on the
(02:33):
road to Iowa City and they lay a duck and
lose to Iowa.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I mean that's an improvement because earlier in the season
they got laid by a duck.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Sure, yeah, but they only had they had less than
one hundred passing cards.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
In that game, as did Iowa.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
I believe.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oh crap, you're right. Yeah. Ninety three yards for Ethan
gunk Meyer, Yeah, and sixty eight yards for Iowa combined
of zero touchdowns for both quarterbacks and three interceptions. That
(03:18):
is that is needless to say.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
We are classic not worry action.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, we are not worried. I am not worried about
Penn State's passing passing attack here. No Ethan even coming
to this game.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Frank Meyer.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Uh yeah, not not good at all. What is that percentage?
Fifty eight percent passing passing percentage in his one touchdown,
two interceptions.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
In his defense, He's only played one full game, and
sure it was against a good defense Iowa for all
of their flaws.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Still they're about to play even better defense here.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Well, this is true. I'm just trying to not it
was also his first start. I listen, I'm just trying
to build in a little bit of room for Ethan
Grunckmeyer because I don't want to just be like he
sucks based off of one game where he was thrown
in in the middle of the season, not expected to start,
(04:25):
not expected to play, does not have good wide receivers
around him. As you know, the wide receivers were not
putting up great numbers when Drew Aller was in And
I know that like a lot of Ohio State fans
like to like to crap on Drew Aller, and I always,
(04:50):
I always think he's going to be a better pro
than he was in college. I think that Franklin didn't
doesn't know didn't know how to develop a quarterback, how
to put together a passing offense. They've never had a
(05:13):
passing game. They've never had a passing game, They've never
had wide receivers. You could name the number of good
wide receivers under James Franklin over the past. How long
was he at Penn State ten eleven, twelve years, eleven
or twelve years something like that. You can count on
(05:34):
one hand. The number of good wide receivers they had
during that time. Sure, and again I think that I
think Drew Aller is a lot better quarterback than Ohio
State fans would give him credit for. I don't think
he was the problem Penn State. Which is to say,
(05:57):
even if Ethan Grunkmeyer was a really good quarterback, I
don't think that him stepping in is going to suddenly
fix things, that things are suddenly going to get better
at Penn State because I don't think Drew Aller was
the problem. No, And even if definitely and even if
Penn State, even if James Franklin is is gone, it
(06:22):
still has his offensive coaching staff in place at Penn State.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, that's that's that's a problem here. Like in this
game here, the thing State is going to have to
worry about is is the dual running backs very good?
Incredibly turning backs incredibly? Could they go off?
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
They could probably could go could go off against Ohio State.
I mean Allen. They rushed Allen twenty eight times against
Iowa for one hundred and forty five, averaging over five
yards at carry as a workhorse there. Yeah, Singleton didn't
get as much as much action. Uh in that game there,
(07:06):
but he very very much could see a lot of
action against against Ohio State. But two very very dangerous
running backs and then the wide receivers. I I'm not worried,
not worried about the wide wide receivers honestly too, Like
(07:27):
they've I'm I'm looking at the looking at the stats here, Jared,
for the teams here, uh, receiving wise, nobody, nobody is
over two and fifty five yards, right. They don't have
they don't have a go to receiver. They don't really
(07:49):
have a playmaker and receiver as as well too. So
I'm I'm not worried. Like Ohio State can play. They
could just play one one safety deep and then everybody up.
Yeah that's how, That's how, that's how like that this
will be.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
This will be a Payton.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
This is a very one dimensional offense.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
This is a Peyton Pierce game. This this is not
a uh, this is not a nickelback game. This is
a Peyton Pierce game. It looks, yeah, for three linebackers,
look for as Kyle said, one safety deep, Hell, a
safety up in the box. You're basically looking at like
(08:33):
a four to four with you know, potentially yeah, a
safety playing line.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Put Caleb downs seven yards from the line of scrimmage.
Five yards from the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yeah, this is this is load the box up. This
is gonna be some some muscle football. Yeah, that's that's
what it's gonna be. Uh.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Not worried about their tight ends either. There always seems
to be a tight end in there that Penn State
loves to go to. Not so much this year neither
neither titand is really has really stepped up. Luke Reynolds
recently has getting a lot more catches, but nothing I'm
(09:22):
really worried about offensively here. How State scores more than
ten points, they win the.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Game, right. Going back to Evan Gruckmeyer, I looked up
his recruiting numbers. He was the number number eight according
to twenty four to seven, the number eight quarterback in
the country, just outside the top one hundred players overall
(09:50):
in the country, and the third best player from Ohio.
Like he's got recruiting numbers. Ohio kid, Yeah, Columbus kid. Essentially,
he's from Lewis Center, which is northern suburb yep. I mean,
so I'm just saying, loving to go to Ohio to
get their quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Right sure.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
So I'm just saying, like he's had a bye week,
there we might be seeing it is within the realm
of possibilities that we see a different Ethan grunk Meyer
this game then we saw against Iowa. H Because, like
(10:37):
I said, he got he got thrown in. You know,
was not expected to play much this year, is not
expected to start this year, gets thrown in against Iowa.
That game did not go well for him. Iowa has
a really good defense. But now they've had now they've
had a bye week and by the way, a coaching change,
my goodness, on top of everything else, and on top
(10:59):
of him playing in his first game it was with
a brand new coach mid season as a tough I'm
just saying he had a lot going against him for
a red shirt freshman quarterback. He had a lot going
(11:22):
against him in that Iowa game. Now he's had a
bye week, a bye week with the new coaching staff,
a bye week with him as the quarterback. I'm not
saying he's going to pop out onto the field and
be Julian saying. That's not what I'm saying. I'm just
(11:45):
saying that it's entirely possible that he's a lot, a
lot significantly better than what we saw against Iowa. Again,
does that mean he's Does that mean he's gonna come
out and light the world on fire? No? Probably not. No.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Defensively, still still pretty good defensive team. I think some
of the numbers are a little misleading here because right
right now, they're showing that they are the number five
team in passing yards per game, number ten and passing
yards per pass. But teams are just running running up
(12:30):
against them though, at ninety eight in the country in
running yards per game, seventy six and running yards per rush.
Like they're they're they're just deciding to run over passing now,
I'm not saying like they're they're. Their secondary is still
pretty good. They're the key. Wheatley plays up he's he's
(12:54):
he's one of the leading tacklers for Penn State. Gets
up there, kind of kind of like a like Downs
gets up there, makes makes the tackles that needs to
be made. But I'm not I'm not. Don't be surprised
if if Ohio State gets there, a third down percentage
(13:17):
gets lowered. After this game here, this is still a
really good Penn State defense, But they're just They're just
not going to be able to keep up offensively. I
think as the game goes along, the offense can't stay
on the field, the defense has to go back on,
can't catch the breath, and the his State offense is
going to start wearing down the defense as the as
(13:38):
the game gets goes along, maybe maybe close, maybe closer
than what a lot of fans want. In the first half,
there maybe something like like fourteen to three something like
that in the in the first half, and then how
State rolls along in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I so, what what we have?
Speaker 3 (13:59):
You have an interesting dynamic here, right? Have we mentioned yet?
The coach Knowles is the defensive coordinator for Penn State,
who obviously was the defensive coordinator for Ohio State the
previous three seasons, and a lot of people would be
like he saw us every day in practice. Well, this
coaching staff saw him every day in practice. And let's
(14:29):
you know, this defense, despite being very old, very experienced,
has had some really bad games. And we know as
Ohio State fans that Knowles would have a few bad
games a year, well a couple a couple bad games
(14:50):
a year where things just sort of broke down. They
allowed a pretty haphazard Iowa offense to score twe on them.
Northwestern is not a good football team, scored twenty two
points on them. They allowed UCLA to score forty two
(15:14):
against them. Oregon and granted it this this this happened
in two overtimes, so you know this was not a
in regulation score. Scored thirty points against them.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
So seventeen in regulation. Right, That's why I think like
it could be pretty low scoring in that first half there.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Okay, but but also UCLA and also Northwestern and Iowa
don't have good offenses and put up twenty plus. And
we can talk about all these defensive numbers, and the
defense numbers on paper look good, but they've played one
(16:05):
good offense all year, maybe two good offenses. The UCLA
is a little you kind of never know what you're
gonna get with UCLA. So let's say too, the UCLA's
talented but very inconsistent. So let's say two good offenses.
Let's count UCLA that allowed thirty points and forty two
(16:28):
points against the only two good offenses they've played this year. Sure,
those defensive numbers are inflated by the fact that they're
out of conference schedule. Was Nevada, Florida International and Villanova
Villa Nova. I think some people were surprised to find
(16:50):
out actually have a football program. They are an FCS
school in football only place FCS exists. That's a thing
to say. And as far as like FBS programs, it
would be difficult to find two worse FBS programs than
(17:11):
Nevada and Florida International. There they are two of the
worst FBS programs you can find.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Like Ohio Nevada.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Ohio would destroy all three of these teams.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Absolutely, yeah, all right, anything else to Jarre, anything else
you want to point out here before we take our
ad break here, now, let's take the ad break, all right, awesome,
right these slupcast dot com is your go to link
for anything and everything s Lucas related.
Speaker 1 (17:45):

You can find those and much more over at dsloopcast
dot com. Let's take that, I break Jared and be
(18:28):
right back.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
For some swoopstairs. We don't need the media backup, all right,
Spike says they will be up for this game, though
I don't think it matters. Quite Frankly, I don't think
(18:50):
it matters. I don't I don't know, if one, I
don't know that they will be that you you have
in Penn State a team that was following the Ohio
State model of no, let's let's bring the seniors back
for one more go. We have unfinished stuff on the
(19:11):
table and then they obviously things have not gone that
way for them, But there is a there's a good
reason why a lot of people were saying, oh Man,
Penn State national champions this year, finally the year Penn
State breaks through. There's a good reason for that. They
were following the model. Yeah, so then obviously the season
(19:37):
has not gone well for them. The thing about it
to me is that like motivation can only take you
so far, and it's not going to go far enough
and again, that's even assuming that they come into this
with a let's save the season with one big win
(20:00):
over Ohio State. I don't see it. I I I
I think they're I think they're waiting, waiting, that is
in the water, waiting for the season to end. At
this point, there's a bunch of older guys on there
(20:22):
who are probably more worried about their NFL futures than
they are the rest of this college football season. They're there,
are season's over, and Ohio State has not not shown
up for a game yet this season. Ohio State is
(20:44):
very properly motivated for a returning champion.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
All right, Jarre, Let's let's go ahead and uh get
into some slipstairs here, all right, Hono State player too?
While in this game? Who is the player you believe
we'll step up for a house state in this matchup?
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Who will step up? Or who do they need to
step up? Is more? The answer is more? Is more
the answer I'm going or more the question I'm going
to answer. If if you want to, if you want to,
if you want to win this game the way that
you want to win this game, if you're gonna actually
go in here and shut down Penn State. And if
(21:35):
you're going to force a bunch of three and outs,
and if you're gonna try and get the backups in
for the fourth quarter, if that's the type of game
you want this to be, you have to shut down
their running attack. And that starts with Caden McDonald, my
Ohigh State player to watch. Kate McDonald, gotcha.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
I I still don't know of the hip injury that
bo Jackson have has here because I almost want to say, like,
you just run it. You run it right at Penn
State here. I mean they you look at defensively, they've
struggled stopping the ball on the ground here. So uh,
last time I have State was on the field, they
(22:19):
threw it at the week at the weak link of Wisconsin, right,
why not run it against the weak link of Penn
State's defense And that's the rushing side here. So as again,
I don't know the health of bo Jackson here, but
I'm going to assume that bo Jackson is good to go.
He'll be he'll he'll get his carries here, So I'll go.
(22:41):
I'll go with bo Jackson.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Okay, enemy player to watch, you do you have for
that one?
Speaker 2 (22:47):
I mean it's it's obvious. It's it's uh, it's Kitton
Allen to me. But it's the running backs. But if
I pick one, I'll go with kateon Allen.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
All Right, you go with Allen. I'll go with Nicholas Singleton.
How about that?
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Sure? All right, we'll call that a win.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
We'll call that.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Key matchup. There's there's a few there's a few ways
you can you can go at this a key matchup.
You can go with a high state's wide receivers versus
Penn States defensive backs. Both sides very very good. Who's
(23:34):
I still like Ohio States odds against Penn State's defensive backs. There,
but I think for a key matchup, I think I
think that that's the one that you want to keep
an eye on.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
You could do that. I think that's a good answer.
I think you could also say, like Penn State's running
backs versus Ohio States linebackers. You could say Penn State's
interior defensive line, interior offensive line versus Ohio States and
your defensive line. You could just say the offensive line
versus the defensive line. I'm gonna get a little bit
(24:09):
more spicy. My key matchup for this one is coach
Ryan Day versus coach Knowles.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Something interesting I just saw here of the one and
seventy four rushing attempts by both Allen and Singleton, one
hundred and seventy four rushing attempts only eleven yards loss,
Yeah zero, All eleven were from Singleton. Allen, with ninety
eight attempts, has not lost a yard. So I think
(24:45):
I think it is important for our hoistly defensive line
to be able to get that push, not let not
let Penn State's offensive line get any kind of momentum
and leverage. All Right, the spread twenty and a half
to the home team of the Buckeyes.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
And if you listened to our Wednesday episode, you know
that Kyle, Me and Austin all three picked both a
win and a cover for Ohio State. By the way,
don't forget to read Austin's answer. I think he gave
answers to all of the other questions too, So we
(25:23):
can roll through that, gotcha, the we don't we don't
like to joke about that. Here, We're gonna go ahead
and remove that real quick. So yeah, we're gonna go
the Yeah. So let's let's get Austin's whole answer in
(25:44):
I'll say this, Ohio State undefeated against the spread, they're
Penn State's offense is bad, and the unless grunken Meyer
really takes a step forward based off of the version
of him that we saw at Iowa, which I think
(26:08):
is possible, I've already done that, Spiel, I've already done that.
I think it's possible that we see a big leap forward,
or at least a leap forward. But if we don't,
if we don't see that, Ohio State's going to shut
out Penn State.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Grunkmeyer was only sucked once in that game. I just
kind of keeping keep an eye out.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
For okay, Like I'm just and how many yards did
he throw for?
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Again?
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Yeah? Yeah, yep, okay, twenty and a half. Yeah, not
enough to scare me from what I've seen with Penn
State offense. Here, like I said, they score more than
ten points that they're winning this, and Hi State will
score more than that. I have like the final score
of like thirty five to three, so that would easily
(27:01):
cover the twenty and a half points.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Yeah, I agree, I have it thirty eight.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Six, Okay, all right, And Austin says here, I feel
bad for Chess Coleman, but hopefully he's a Buckeye next year. Anyways,
rough season gets rougher. No UCLA magic for State Penn
Penn State player to watch is Amari Campbell leaves the
(27:29):
team in tackles. Not really worried about Jim Noles defense.
But yeah, Ohio State players to watch is Jeremiah Smith.
Seemed like the type of guy to hold a grudge
and I think he's going to want to absolutely obliterate Knowles,
and he has a matchup here of Heartline versus Knowles.
(27:51):
Cinema thirty five to seven.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Austin, I did not read your full answer, I promise
so that that's just a little bit more synchronized thinking
they're speaking of Austin, Kyle Gosh, what what is the
ruin point total?
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Sorry point total? Forty three and a half points? Yeah,
I got that. That's under for me. Yeah, that tells
that tells me that, Yeah, they don't think Penn State's
score much at all either.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Well, I mean, if you if you do the if
you do the Vegas math, it would what they're they're saying,
Penn State thirteen, Ohio State thirty three. Right, No, I
messed that up somewhere in there. I messed that up
somewhere in there. You did, it'd be like did I
did I not peendos. Yeah, it'd be like twelve. It'd
(28:50):
be like twelve to thirty one, thirty two, something like that. So,
but right, either way, don't do math live.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Either way, don't do math live.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
Don't do them. No, but but but you I'm just
saying right now, Penn State is not scoring every ten
so Vegas is just wrong. Yeah, Vegas is just wrong.
Penn State's not scoring every ten points.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
All right, Austin's over unders here, ready for it?
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Ready?
Speaker 2 (29:19):
All right?
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Over unders. For Brian's future team, Penn.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Stated on time out this he's not going to be
the offensive coordinator here forever, and that's a good thing,
like for the future of Ohio State. At some point,
you want Brian Hartline to go out and get head
coaching experience somewhere else. That's probably a good thing long
term for the program because he could very if that
(29:47):
goes well. You know, Ryan Day will you know, leave eventually. Right, So,
you want Brian Hartline to go out and be a
successful head coach somewhere so that he can come back
Brian Hartline's barely an offensive coordinator at this point. He
(30:12):
is still learning the offensive coordinator role. The Penn State
head coaching job is that's that's a huge leap for
him right now. That's a huge leap for him right now.
Could he go be the head coach at.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Toledo?
Speaker 3 (30:34):
He probably do better than Toledo was Somewhere some we
need something we needed somewhere halfway.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Uh Cincinnati, Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Could he be go be the head coach at Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Shore By Cincinnati's doing pretty good this year.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Yeah, well, which which typically for them means that their
head coach gets poached.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Yes, all right, Penn State sex given up at two
and a half. They've only given up seven sacks all season,
so a sack a game. I I'm gonna go under
on this one. I just don't think they're gonna be
able to pass a lot. They they might be forced
(31:20):
to have to try if Ohio State know what I'm
saying is yeah, I'm gonna go under.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
I just.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Yeah, I'm just gonna go under. My I'm gonna go
with my gut feeling here. Two and a half. I
think State could get two sacks, but I know a
State is one of the best in the country and
in sacks right now, like QB sacks percentage, one.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Of the best, right but but still, that's like ten percent,
right if Ohio State gets gets a sack for every
one pass attempt or excuse me, gets one sack for
every ten pass attempts, which is about what Actually it's
closer to eleven, I think, but let's just say ten
for the sake of easy math. Is Penn State going
(32:08):
to try to throw the ball thirty times in this game?
Probably not, No, So yeah, I'll go under.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
I was trying to find this. Yet they Penn State's
thirty fourth in the country and letting up sacks right now,
so only at four percent, while Hot State is number
four at defensively at getting sacks that at ten point
six percent, number four in the country. So they have
a different I'm just going to go under.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Penn State's numbers to me don't necessarily matter a ton.
You have a different coach, different quarterback.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Different quarterback and all that. Yeah, and they've they've.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Played a pretty except for like one game against Oregon
they've played and well two games because let's count Iowa,
they played a pretty shit schedule up until this point. Sure,
Actually Toleda wouldn't be a bad starting place for him. Yes,
it would be. If you if you go from the
coordinator at Ohio State to the head coaching job at Toledo,
it's because you were not doing a good job as
(33:07):
the coordinator at Ohio State. That is a step down.
A coordinator at Ohio State to the head coach at
Toledo is a step down. You get demoded to head
coach at Toledo.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
All right, Reese tackles for the game over under seven
and a half. I'll go over. I think they're gonna
run the ball a lot. I'm going to try to.
I think that's how Penn State's gonna have to win
the game is running on the ground, and that's just
gonna go right through Reese. So I'll go over.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
I'm going to agree with you and say over. The
problem here is going to be that the box is
gonna be pretty heavily loaded. So who ends up getting
the tackles kind of feels like a crapshoot. Sure, if
the offense, if the offense and defense it's a little
bit more spread out, then more of the tackles. I
(34:04):
think would go to to uh, to he and to
he and style to him and styles. But you're probably
gonna have a third linebacker this game. You probably have
a fourth safety up in the box this game. A
lot of those linebacker tackles are going to get spread out.
And then if Ohio State scores a bunch of points
(34:25):
early and Penn State's forced to throw, that's gonna make
this number hard to hit as well. So I am
gonna say over. But it's a good line.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
It's a tough line, Okay, Singleton and Alan Carefu.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
The d don't for the dts don't have to make
tackles to make plays.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Then four and a half carries Jared for Singleton and
Allen for the game.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Here, I'm gonna go over.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
I'm gonna go over for this one.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Yeah, ours do. But I'm just saying they' and have to.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Yeah. JJ total yards for the game one hundred and
twenty three and a half mentioned that like the strength
for this defense, for Penn State's defense is their secondary.
I'm gonna go under just I think Ohio State, especially
if Bo Jackson is healthy, we'll probably try to run
it more in this game. So I'll I think that's
(35:22):
just gonna be less attempts thrown to JJ's way here.
So I'll go under.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
I'm gonna go over. And here's why I think Penn
State's gonna walk into this game thinking, you know what,
we can cover him. They're gonna think, yeah, you know what,
we can cover him. We have really good defensive backs.
We can cover him. We don't need to double team,
and we don't need to triple team. And we got this,
and then they're gonna they're gonna pay the price for that.
(35:51):
Especially Penn State's run defense is not very good, which
means if Ohio State is able to get a good
run offense going that, we'll you know, bring the safeties up,
which can help. I think there's I think we get
a big Jeremiah Smith is my point. I think we
get like a big Jeremiah Smith touchdown this game.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Okay, all right, we different that one, all right? Saying
completions twenty three and a half over, He's only done
that twice this year. I'm gonna go under. Completions, not attempts. Completions.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Yeah, and now you talked me out of it under, Okay,
all right, and.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
We have next one here is grunken Meyer total yards
at one hundred and thirty seven and a half under.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
How many quarter total? How many quarterbacks? Let's just do
passing yards. I'm not gonna make you do math. Let's
just say passing yards. How many Ohios? How many opponents?
How many opposing quarterbacks? That's the word I was looking for.
How many opposing quarterbacks have thrown for over one hundred
(37:01):
and twenty three against Ohio State like it happened against Illinois.
We can count that one. I know that happened, But
how many other quarterbacks? Because I I think the number
will be surprisingly low. I think the number is surprisingly
low because one hundred and twenty was it? Excuse me?
(37:23):
One hundred and thirty seven is not a high number
for a quarterback. Kyle. I'm vamping for you as you
look this up, so feel free to interrupt me.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Okay, Manning one, Washington was two, okay, Yeah, and Illinois
was three.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Okay. So the three best quarterbacks we've played this year?
Got it? Yep?
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Yep, I'm gonna go under.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
No Spike says that we're averaging one thirty one through
the air, which is probably where Austin got that number.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
If you take out grambling. If you take out grambling
at one hundred forty.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
One, okay, all right, Yeah, I'm gonna go under as well.
Yeah yeah, because even again, even if even if grunk
and Meyer is you can count grambling or not count grambling,
there's no bad there. Yeah, even if grunk and Meyer
comes out and is like again twice as good, which
(38:24):
still wouldn't be a lot, but twice as good as
he was against Iowa, not necessarily statistically, but just like
you know, as a quarterback, you've much improved with some
actual practice time, practice time. The Penn States wide receivers
are still shit.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Okay, all right, And last one, Jackson in west rushing
yards at one hundred and three point five. I'm gonna
go with my theme here, Jared, I'm gonna go over.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Man.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
It just depends so heavily depends on Jackson's health.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
It is it is, But I'm gonna trust that Jackson
is healthy here, and if he isn't well, then I
lose a point.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
No, you don't, because I'm gonna agree with you. So
we'll go down together. Because because if Jackson, let's say
Jackson's ninety percent healthy, I think they hit this all right,
all right, and that's it. That is.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
That is our episode. And then we got to know
our enemy Penn State, not our rivals, NITNA Alliance.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
James Franklin back from the dead this Halloween, rising from
the grave. Do you think it's a mistake, It's it's
all of The new trend in college football is to
fire your coach mid season, as opposed to waiting until this.
It used to be we'd have like two, what's up?
Speaker 2 (40:00):
So what are you gonna?
Speaker 3 (40:01):
What do you what are you going to do?
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Like like you can't hire a coach in the middle.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
It used to be that like the week after Thanksgiving.
M like that Monday after Thanksgiving, it just like the
news wire would blow up. It would be a bloodbath,
just head coach after head coach after head coach, just
getting getting the acts because they didn't like to fire
coaches mid season in college of ball. But that meta
(40:30):
has shifted, and I don't know, I don't know why
that meta has shifted. That's I'd be interested. If anyone
has any theories, drop them in the YouTube chat. Why
has that meta shifted? Does anyone have a good theory
on that? Or is it just monkey see monkey do
(40:52):
some coach. Some organizations started doing it, so some other
organizations also started doing it. Is it is it monkey see,
monkey do? Or is there good actual reasoning behind it?
Probably to keep nil money happy, keeping boosters happy has
been around for as long as college football has been around.
I mean because even if they weren't paying players before,
(41:14):
they were still building press boxes. But now it has
more impact. No, not to the school presidents, because it's
still money. The money might be going to different places,
but the entire purpose of the football programs is to
drive donations and to drive admissions. It is the advertising
(41:39):
wing of the university. That is what college athletics is.
It's just advertisements. It's the front porch of the program.
That's the south.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
All right, Jared, we we do have to wrap.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Anything else again, if anyone has if there's any good
theories as the why the meta has switched, I I've
yet to find it, And let me know in the
YouTube chat.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
And also do the like and subscribe thing. I guess
whatever those things I'm supposed to say as a person
who posts on YouTube. All right, Uh, that's it, Kyle,
that's the end of the show. Do you have any
think of Kyle's corner.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
Two quick things here, a State going to do a
moment of silence for both Nick Mangold and Bob Maggs.
Bob Maggs just recently passed away. He was a multi
all big tent center years ago. And and as well
(42:50):
as Urban Meyer, Jared, who's fine going to be ringing
the victory bill for this game.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Fox will be on campus, that's.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
Yeah, they'll they'll they'll definitely have cameras up in there,
and Urban Mayer go and make it a big, big
deal and all that so we'll get to see it.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
Well, of course Fox wants of course, fuck they're doing
the pregame and Urban's gonna be ringing the bell. They're
gonna they're gonna love that. Add of Fox cameras and
everyone are gonna love that.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Yeah, all right, that's that's all. There's a lot more
about I'll just stick with those two.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
That's perfectly fair. Yeah, So that's it. That's the end
of the show. So tonight's ending music will be brought
to you by Courtney from work, just like on Monday,
just like on Wednesday. If we we have actually actually
keep a playlist of all of the songs we play
on the show, which you can find on our YouTube channel,
(43:53):
or you can go straight to the playlist, which is
a YouTube playlist just by getting to music dot the
sloopcast dot com, or again the playlist is just published
to our YouTube channel, which is YouTube dot the sloopcast
dot com, or of course just search sloop cast on
YouTube you'll find it. So and also the songs are
(44:13):
in the show notes because I know on YouTube we
don't actually play the song because we can't because copyright.
But it's it's in the show notes if you want
to click on it. And again, the larger playlist is
also linked, so or it's not linked. But I told
you what the addresses are. So with all that being said,
I'd like to encourage everyone to drink local beer, listen
(44:35):
to local music, and of course sports local podcasters. Once
again this.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
Saying nothing about him.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Make a sash.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
I'm just sound but a look at Test.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
