Speaker 1 (00:37):
Anchor's up sells it for looking to the subcast.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Save me today, Kyle, were ditty, Yeah, doing good. It's
not gonna complain. It's not often, Kyle. It's not often
go to.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Choose Ohio State not to win on this show. And
I'm always happy to be wrong. By the way, new
tradition could tradition.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
I think I saw a stat Jared, first time since
it was it the nineteen eighties the Hiose State beat
a number one team at the House Stadium. Really, it's
not that often a number one team comes to Ohio
Stadium either.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
M I mean, I suppose that's true. Yeah, I suppose
first time since I think the number was nineteen eighty
one that a a quarterback making their first start defeats

(01:46):
the number one overall team. So that's pretty fun. It
was like a nineteen in oh or rather an oh
in nineteen streak that Julian saying just snapped. Generally we
have been the number one team. Yeah, there's not been
a lot of Big Ten teams occupying the number one

(02:08):
spot in recent years. Obviously Michigan had a good year
because they were cheating, but Penn State hasn't been number
one in a while. Seeah, it's been a while.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Nineteen eighty five, nineteen eighty something like that, Buckeye's beat
Iowa twenty two to thirteen.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Oh that I was talking about. Yet I was talking
about the other thing. Hey, imagine imagine Iowa being number one.
I know, right, he's different forty years ago. You don't
remind me.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Oh well, let's let's get into it. We got we gotta,
we got our our Scarlett Ingrade episode where we got
a lot of questions we're going to have to answer
here from the offense, the def to over the team overall,
fourteen to seven final score in Ohio Stadium, Bluck Guy's

(03:07):
pull out the victory over Texas and going in here,
I kind of I think a lot of it expected
it to be a very defensive heavy type of game.
If the Cop Bowl showed us anything going to be
low scoring, get low scoring game, especially when you've taking

(03:28):
the factor of two young quarterbacks. Yeah, fresh lot of
new faces on the offensive line for both teams there,
and very stout defenses overall.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, camerage just turned off. But that's okay. We'll keep
talking up and it's back on. I need to replace
the USB cable or something, but whatever, we move forward.
The the spike says, look like a fight between two
MMA fighters that that have killed someone in the ring.

(04:06):
Very cagy. Yeah, that's that's that's fair. Then you guys
will also have to add in the fact that it's September,
Like the defenses are always a little bit ahead of
the offenses in September. So that's that's also a huge
it's also a huge role in this. Am I not
sharing my screen? I'm not could have sworn I was there.

(04:31):
We go sharing my screen to the discord chat. It
felt like we kept the defensive voice from the chip
run defensively all right there, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
they were. The defense was swarming, the defense was hitting

(04:54):
purpose they were, they were hitting people. All right. Let's
let's get to the report card. Yeah, Iggy with no
with no pi's is always good. All right, Kyle, Let
you start with your offense.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Sure started with the offense game plan. I kind of
expected to be run heavy. Thirty four attempts. Thirty four attempts.
That that's pretty heavy, and my eyes, especially when they
only had fifty five or fifty four plays offensively, and

(05:30):
thirty four of those were rushing. Yeah, it was a
smart game plan. You gotta don't put your quarterback into
a into a bad position. And we'll get to the
quarterback here. But I think game plan I think was fine.
I thought I thought they did fine at a lot
of Week one issues. Yeah, totally totally expect that with

(05:57):
drop balls, uncharacteristic with certain players. Uh, offensive line looking
shaky at times, but digging granted, who they played probably
probably the toughest defensive line, if not the second toughest
defensive line of how State will face this year.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Yeah, I mean absolutely. You you know, we always talk
about when we do these report cards that you have
to do it on a on a what's the word
I'm looking for here, Kyle, on a scale, on a
on a curve, like you have to base it off
of expectations. You have to base it off of who

(06:37):
your opponent is. So we're we're we are recording people
against themselves essentially.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
Yep. I would say gameplay, gameplay, game play, I would
say a B plus. For me, I'd say B plus.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
I can't edit the text layer for some reason, so
that's awesome. Can't I edit the text layer?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Would you grade it? Jared what would you grade it, Jared?

Speaker 1 (07:10):
All Right, we're just just gonna go without the visual.
If I can't make that work overall, I'm gonna give
the I'm gonna give the game plan probably like a
B plus. I just would have seen I would like
to have seen a little bit more passing. It does
feel like to me that day seems really bound and

(07:34):
determined to turn this into a running football team even
when it's not working. And that's that's how that's how
he lost to Michigan, quite frankly, And I would really like,
I'd really like to see the pass set up the
run instead of the run set up the pass. I
just think that's the strength of this offense.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Yeah, So what was the grade? You would say?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
B plus?

Speaker 4 (08:01):
All right, all right, what's the next question, Jared?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
In game coaching, coaching, management of the offense, interpret that
how you will, as far as adjustments and you know
the overall, ye know, how how did they coach in game?
How did they make changes? How did they manage the
the player rotation?

Speaker 4 (08:25):
All of that, I would I would say B. I
would give it a BE for for me, I wish
I wish there was a little bit more. I know,
that they were trying to again putting putting, saying in
a in a good position to succeed. But I would

(08:48):
like to see a little bit. I would like to
see a little bit more. You have some very veteran
players on the outside. Uh, and we saw it. We
saw it a couple of times, like he threw it
through it to them and yeah, they made they made plays.
So I like to trust the wide receiver. It's maybe
a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Okay, Kyle, going with a B. I again, I would
have liked to have seen them move a little bit closer,
a little bit more to the passing game as as
things went on. So for that same reason, I'm going
to go with a B plus. Chat. How do you
guys feel about the last two questions? I know I

(09:29):
was focused on the other thing and I maybe didn't
get to you on the game plan and the in
game coaching And Kyle, what was your what was your
grade on game plan for the offense?

Speaker 4 (09:41):
Again?

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I got it working, I fixed it.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Ah, there we go. Yeah it was a B plus.
It was a B plus as well. Okay, Uh, quarterbacks
quarterback here, Honestly, I there was isn't that many bad
plays from saying quite a few drops. I think there
was like three four two three. It was like three

(10:09):
or four drops in that game. And he was just
on target a.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Couple of plays.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
He he'll look at He'll look at the the tape
and be like, ah, there was a wide, wide, open
wide receiver right right there, maybe on the other side
or in the middle of the field where.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
He was looking at. He had he had Claire Claire
was his primary read on that fourth down and delivered
it right on the damn button.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
Like yes, absolutely, yeah, that that was That was That
was his first that first first game. Yeah, that was
the first quarter. He was like spot on the The
completion percentage didn't didn't mean anything about how well he played,
especially that that that first quarter there. So I'd say

(10:58):
an as I honestly was your first time out there
and you go against that kind of defense and didn't
turn the ball over. You did what was asked for you. Yeah,
I'm gonna go act. Just make it a just makeing it,
just give it it a actually for me.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Okay, I'm gonna go a plus. Is first ever start
against a tremendous defense. He took care of the ball,
He had no turnovers, he again was incredibly accurate. I'm
already I know the stats don't show it, and I
don't care. I'm already like fully invested on Julian saying

(11:39):
after one game, like I'm all in. I'm saying absolutely,
I saw a lot of CJ. Stroud in that game.
I I see a lot of.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
His pocket presence was just absolutely just superb. I was
I was maze, just absolutely amazed about how well how
ELL's pocket presence was, uh and not at all very poised.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Yeah, man, running block, consider consider that that's the defensive
line is a is a strength and the linebackers is
a strength of.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, I'm gonna say I'm gonna say A. I'll say B. Actually, no,
I'll say B minus. Actually give me, give me a
B minus for that one. Granted, yes, for for the
type of defense that they went up, but man, two
point three on the ground. Understand, I understand who they played,

(12:44):
but two point three on the ground, and there's a
ton of plays where the running backs were just hit
right away too. Yeah, I think a B minus is reasonable.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
I'm gonna be a little bit nicer again, a lot
of new faces on the offensive line, you have to agree, Yeah,
a lot of new faces on the offensive line, really
good defensive line they're playing against. I think at least
some fault falls on the game plan and the and

(13:26):
and quite frankly the running backs, but we'll get to
them later. As far as the lack of production on
the ground, I think there's some I think there's some
room to uh to spread on on the blame. I
don't block the offensive line.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Chat says, yeah, past blocking a a just absolutely great
pass blocking.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
I agree, I absolutely agree. As a matter of fact,
zero yeah, zero's sas Yeah. I think I'm gonna throw
a plus on it. Again, a lot of new faces
on the offensive line. Texas has some elite defensive ends,

(14:12):
and where were they. I didn't think about Austin Saraveld
once this game, which is exactly what you want.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
I agreed, absolutely tremendous. I didn't think about pass I
did not think about pass blocking once when I watched
the game live. I just didn't even think about pass blocking.
And that's what you want.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Running the running backs here, Honestly, I'm I'm gonna I'll
say B plus. I know that the numbers do not
do justice there. Donaldson three point five per carry, people
to per carry, but they were putting in it. They
were putting in a tough position, and how many, how

(15:00):
many times they could have how many tackle for losses
there could have been in this game, But Donaldson people
was able to break that first tackle or be able
to to lean forward and got that extra yard or two.
I thought, for what they were going up against and

(15:20):
for the run blocking, I thought they did. I thought
they did pretty well.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
I I think our running backs are fine.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
No, you can't compare him to the last year. Last
year was just such an amazing group.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah, I mean that's probably fair, but I will yeah
Spikes exactly. Yeah, maybe I shouldn't, but I'm gonna. I
think the running backs so far from what I've seen,
are simply fine. Donaldson is a guy that's gonna get
you three or four yards and sometimes that's what you need,

(15:58):
and that's fantastic. I think Donaldson also is just a
good overall player as far as past protection and just
like all of the not having the ball in his
hands type of stuff. I really like Donaldson. I think
he's a great addition to the team. People's looks like
he's trying to break a play every play and he

(16:20):
needs to get over that. Overall, I'm not excited about
the running backs right now. Dobbyins sophomore syndrome, I mean
quite frankly, Henderson sophomore syndrome as well. They both did
that their sophomore years where they just decided they wanted

(16:41):
to break stuff and it wasn't working all right.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Next up is the receivers. But before we get to
the receivers, we're going to take our first quick ad
break here sloop CAAs dot com, the slipcast dot com. Ky,
I forget the in front is there, go to like
anything and everything sloop cast related, Pictreon dot the slipcast
is our Patreon page, Discord dot the sloop cast or
discord YouTube.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Dot the school cast, you get it all.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
All of that and other sites such as our merchandise,
our Spotify seventy seventy seventy seventy one links are all
over at the sloopcast dot com. We'll take that first
ad break and be right back.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Sun Card asks do catches by running backs count as receivers. Yes,
we're not, with the exception of the quarterbacks, because the
quarterbacks a quarterback. We're not really grading position groups as
much as we're grading phases of the game. Correct.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Yeah, so receiving here, I got to see expectations here,
the high expectations that actually give me a C minus. Honestly,
the expectations for these receivers are very high. JJ tait
Ennis the tran for with Claire to say, exceptional receiving

(18:06):
core here and for how many drops there were? I
it needs needs needs attention right away here. Hopefully it
was just first game, first game jitters there and or
bad gloves or bad gloves, yeah, and and then move

(18:29):
on from that. So yeah, I s as.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Uh yeah again, expectations or expectations, this is an excellent
I mean, it needs to be said that this was
a really excellent Texas secondary, but that doesn't justify the drops.
Especially you got a freshman quarterback out there, red shirt freshman,

(18:55):
but a freshman quarterback out there. You gotta be doing
everything you can to support him, and that does include
dropping the ball.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
That being said, Tate had a monster catch to blow
the game open, you know, so you've got to give
a little bit of credit there and and for what
it's worth, like after the after the first quarter where
they had bad drops, they put things back together.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
They did. Yeah, so agree, do you have, Jared?

Speaker 1 (19:26):
I'm gonna I'm gonna go with a C plus again
because the expectations for this receiving group are sky high
and they need to meet those expectations.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
All right, all right, drives conversions? How State was three
for twelve on third downs, one for two on fourth downs.
I would say, I would say see, I'd say see,
hold on, let's let's for this one here.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Let's take a whole let's take a whole look at
this U. I think what were their red zone? What
was the red zone conversions?

Speaker 4 (20:06):
One for one, one for one in the red zone
and oh for two for Texas.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Well, well, well we'll worry about Texas's stats when we
get to the defense.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
But so.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
One hundred percent of touchdowns achieved in in the red zone.
As far as just like keeping drives together, not fantastic,
not not bad. Again, you have to consider you're playing
a really, really good defense. So what did you say
it was, Kyle?

Speaker 4 (20:39):
What for my rating?

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Did you? Did you? Or did you? Okay? It was
a C. I'm gonna I'm gonna go a little bit
nicer than you. I'm gonna go with a B plus,
it's actually a lot a bit nicer than you. Again,
I think you have to consider.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Two for two for you have to consider in the
first half and then one for sixth in the second half.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
But they got the touchdown when they got into the
red zone, which acts asked Texas if that's a big
deal or not. That to me counts that's fair.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
I mean, that's fair. Yeah, they got some crucial didn't
have to convert that on a fourth down. That was
their one and only fourth down conversion, and they they
they got it done. I mean, credit credit to the
offense to get that yard for the touchdown.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
And and I'll and I'll just go ahead and say this,
these were the top two defenses in the country on
the field. You know, maybe with consideration of Georgia, maybe
Oregon who added a bunch of key pieces through the
transfer portal. We'll see how that goes. But yeah, but

(21:49):
in my opinion, these are the best two defenses. And
with that in consideration, B plus explos that excessive what d.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
Yeah, I saw one D there explosiveness. Ohio State has
had had one play of over twenty yards all game
one that was to Tate and that was to Tate. Yep,
Jeremiah Smith had one that went for sixteen yards, Claire
had one for eleven, and Tate had one that went

(22:25):
for fort dy. So I think in total there was Yeah,
there was only two plays that went for fifty more
than fifteen yards. So as far as explosiveness, yeah, D
plus I'm going off of explosiveness to D plus.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Again. I'm gonna I'm an agrade based off of expectation.
No one was expecting this to be a big, high
scoring game. Texas has a really really good defense, so
I'm gonna give them a little more leeway than than you.
I'm gonna go with the C plus.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Okay, all right, chat, I think I think the D
wait when for chat we'll kind of move on to
the sea for chat here. Uh, all right, Moving on defense,
I think defense we can move a little quicker because
I think these are going to be a little bit
easier too to grade here. I agree, So game plan

(23:24):
A plus, A plus, give me, give me all the
pluses that you can. Jared for the game.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Plan all right, Well, I'm working inside of a new
frame here, so I think it's just going to be
one unfortunately, but yeah, no, I I absolutely agree stellar
stellar day for the defense I have. Yeah, we got
an A plus from Chat as well. I I one

(23:50):
hundred percent agree, absolutely stellar game plan from the defense.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
Yeah all right, Uh, what's sex there in game coaching?
A plus? Keep moving around A plus.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
I'm gonna I'm gonna go with just an A minus here.
Texas did start to get a little bit of momentum
in the second half, so you know, I feel like
they made better adjustments through the game, so I'll go
I'll go a minus.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
And metricked Texas into playing a Big ten game.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Well, let's let's be honest. They belong in the Big ten.
They're They're way too smart to be in the SEC.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Chat gave an a plus.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Okay, well, all right, what is up?

Speaker 4 (24:45):
What is up there next? I can't read tackling tackling
A I would say A. I think there was maybe
a miss tackle or two, so I think it's just thinking.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
A yeah there. It's not like they have explosive running
backs or anything like that. I think there weren't any
great running backs in this game. But they made the
tackles on the receivers when they could. Uh, Arch may
have broken one or two tackles during the course of
the game. But that was basically it. So yeah, I'm

(25:19):
I'm good. I'm good with an A here, did you
did you also do this? Just an A or yep?

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Just an a yep?

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Okay, and we got an chat as well.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
All right, uh, rush stop rush stop run stop. So
tail tail two halves. There's a tail two hoves here.
Ohio State very well, did very well in the first half,
held them to just over three yards per carry, sixteen
attempts on fifty three yards. They got, they got, they
got going in the second half twenty one attempts for

(25:52):
one hundred and thirteen yards on the ground and just
in the second half there now you see, y I
put the I understand, uh found some found some things
going there. Uh so i'd say run stop, I would say,
but mm hmm I was I'll say B. I'll say B.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
We have a B minus from chat. Kyle says, B. Okay,
B plus. It's still like it's still a really really
good Texas team, like we we have to this. This
was you know, with all due respect to Wisconsin, we
weren't playing Wisconsin here.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
Yeah pass rush uh they A they did, they did fantastic.
They did fantastic. Uh, the pressure on Manning, so I
that this that the stats isn't going to show up.
They only had one sack, but hm, they made him uncomfortable.
He couldn't set sure. The only time he got the

(27:01):
only time he got comfortable was able to throw the
ball with accuracy was the touchdown. Puts the touchdown to
he was able to throw. Other than that, he was
not comfortable able to set his feet. They got the
pressure on him a absolutely all right.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
I just would have liked to have seen a little
more consistent pass rush, specifically from the defensive ends, like
I'm really fiending for. I feel like we haven't had
a Vosa or Young type experience for the pass rush

(27:45):
for a while. So not only that, but Texas had
one of their offensive tackles was hurt. The other one
has had a messed up hand. I just I would
love to see the edge rushers make sure themselves known
a little bit more with them. I'll go with the

(28:08):
B plus. Okay plus, chat went with B plus as well.
Past coverage A plus.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
I thought I thought past coverage they did they did extraordinary. Yes, yes,
Matthews did let up the touchdown, but that was just
a perfect pass.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
I thought he did pretty well coverage.

Speaker 4 (28:34):
No name was Matthews. Matthews. Matthews had the interceptions and
and he was the one that led up the touchdown.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Oh that's right, the one to Iggy got no never mind,
I'm just wrong.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
So yeah, A plus. Uh, best secondary in the in
the nation right there.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Okay, I will say Zach makes a very good point.
To be fair, Arch was also just straight ass it
really needs it was a drop two. We also need
to acknowledge that like Arch, like dirted a third of
the balls he threw, and I'm being generous when I

(29:18):
say a third of the balls just like straight into
the ground. But he was confused with the coverage. There
were open guys that there were past opportunities that he missed,
and we already gave the game plan glowing reviews. I
acknowledged that, but he missed open receivers a lot. So

(29:43):
I'm gonna go with like an A minus here.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
Yeah, all right, that's fine, chat A plus and an
A minus to an A. We got an A plus,
all right, all right, next one, Jared.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Minus, it's an A. I now understood what you said.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Yeah, okay, what's the next one?

Speaker 1 (30:02):
There stops.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
Stops. Hey, they made the stops when they needed to, right.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Yeah, this is this is as much a plus as
you can get, as far as it stop. I mean,
if if you're wondering, what the hell does stops mean?
Stops is just drives in conversions. But on the defensive side,
that that that's what stops.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Is Texas one for two on fourth downs and was
oh for three on fourth downs in the second half?

Speaker 1 (30:37):
And how did they do in the red zone, Kyle
and oh for two in the red zone? Yeah, that's
an A plus performance.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
Yep, all right. Containment did you also do in that half? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (30:50):
A plus?

Speaker 4 (30:51):
Yeah, containment.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Containment, Just in case it's not clear, is explosive miss
on the other side, So didn't let up? So not
letting up big plays?

Speaker 4 (31:05):
Well, yes, and no it's not.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
It's not literal containment in that way spikes. It's it's
like big play prevention is really what I'm trying to
communicate with containment.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
O Hostate let up two plays of over thirty yards.
There's a thirty yard, a thirty two yard, and a
twenty eight yard on the reception. The thirty two yard
was the touchdown to Livingstone. Yeah, and then rushing there
was a fifteen, fourteen and thirteen yard runs as well too.

(31:41):
So if I'm going to go containment, yeah, I'll say,
I'll say A. I'll I'm kind of between ans and
al I'll give him an A.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Yeah, I agree between A minus and A, but I'm
gonna go with a minus. I'm a little bit closer
on that side. And Chat also said, well, well we
got an A plus and an, so I guess.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
We'll eat on that out to an A and impact. Uh, Impact,
I would say.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Impact plays game change in play A plus.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
I'd say a plus. You you force an interception, you
make your make your opponent two over two, make your
opponent go over two in the red zone.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Stopping a sneak the way they stop the sneak is
really difficult.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
So so difficult. Yeah, Texas one for five on four downs. Yeah,
Impact A plus, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Yeah, I would have Again, I would really love to
see more more sacks. I would love to see sure,
but I'm gonna go with an A plus regardless. Again,
you have to keep in mind who they were playing
A plus down. The chat is on, all right, let's

(33:02):
we can move on to overall. Kyle do you do.
We want to do a second ad break here?

Speaker 5 (33:09):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Yeah, yeah, we need to do a second ad break
or a little a little bit behind here, So theswoopcast
dot com again is that link anything everything sloop cast related.
If you want to help support Jared and I, but
no wanna, don't want to go through your Patreon, you
can check up merch dot this, smoothcast dot com again,
merch dot this, sloopcast dot com. If you want to

(33:29):
pick up some sloop cast gear or if you're not
into the podcast kind of gear. Seventy seventy one is
an alternative uh merchandise store that you can check out
over at seventy seventy one dot the sloopcast dot com.
We'll go ahead take that second ad break and finish
up with our gratings.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
All right, let's as Kyle said, we're a little behind here,
so let's let's move through the overall team rankings quickly.
In game coaching, this is this is basically Ryan Day.
How did he do managing the game all of that? Hey,

(34:15):
I agree, I again this is maybe more of an
all I think you can to do a job with
the clock management. I have no real complaints here again,
I this is more of an offensive complaint. So even
if I'm gonna hold this against him, but like, hey,
when the run, so let's let's go a little more

(34:36):
past heavy and you know, guys, as as the freshman
stops being such a freshman, maybe you do.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
That again an and A plus. So well we'll just
keep everybody out in A then motivation enough, motivation effort
A plus. I mean, how much more motivation and effort
can you get when you when you're playing Texas?

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Yeah, the one the motivation and effort came prepackaged this weekend.
We'll see how most may change next week. Yeah, yeah,
well well yeah, well we'll see if it's still an
A plus when Grambling comes to town.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
All right, Exit execution, Yeah, it's it's a tail of
two sides. It's a tale of two sides here. So
I'm gonna I'm gonna go more on the B minus
side for execution, Like to see the offense execute a
little bit better, the line blocking a little bit better,
on the rushing receivers catching the ball better, So I'll

(35:39):
see B minus.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Yeah, I'll go with the I'll go with the standard
B personally, but CHAT will also go with A B
minus So I guess they are. They're with you on
that right.

Speaker 4 (35:50):
Discipline two penalties all game, zero turnovers all game A plus.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
That's that's all some That is awesome. Yeah, no turnovers.
Very limited on penalties, yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
For being week one and only two penalties yeah yeah,
but one one false start and I don't remember what
the second penalty was.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
But and as Zach points out in the chat, no
penalties for Iggy.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Yeah, no penalties for Eggy. Yes, all right, special teams,
I'll say C plus. I'll say C plus that the
punting's got to improved. Punting has gotten has to improve.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
He did have two punts over Joe, that is, Joe
MacGuire did have two of his six punts go over
fifty yards, but he definitely had a cup. Like two
of those punts were pretty pretty bad.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
They were rollers, those ones that went over fifty rollers.

Speaker 4 (36:57):
Yeah, so yeah, U C plus it's got to improve.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
I I I'll uh, I'll just second that.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Yeah, okay, minus in the chat, C minus in the chat.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
There chat's always meaner than we are.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Almost. Let's see turn turnovers I mean A plus yeah,
I mean, you play against an excellent excellent defensive football team.
You don't turn the ball over, you quite Frank, I
don't even remember them getting close to like there wasn't like,
oh saying, really put that one. You know, we got
away with that one.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
You know.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
I don't remember there even being a hint of a
danger at turnovers on the offensive side. On the defensive side,
they maybe should have had one more turnover than they
officially had. But we don't complain about referees on this show.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
Yeah we do, No, we don't. Plus A plus is
all around all right in the offense, I say offense, the.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
Offense again, let's see C plus all right, Listen, don't
don't let don't let my disapproval.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
It's X expectations. I expect a lot more, a lot
more from the expectations from the wide receivers. Two point
what what was two point three on the ground? Granted,
I know, yes it's Texas, but they did a lot
better on the ground during during the Cotton Bowl, like

(38:34):
two point I I understand, Jared, but it's it's it's
the Slavs up front that may that make it happen.
And then and then it's on the running backs to
read the whole and be able to make a play
after that, they they were not getting the offensive line
were not getting it done on the rushing attack. There,

(38:57):
that's that's got that's got it.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
You have to consider again. I'll say this again, these
are the two best defenses in the country in Columbus
this weekend. Yes, we have high expectations for the offense,
but the defense also has high expectations. Like the Texas
defense has high expectations as well. I think you have
to factor that in. I'm gonna go with a B plus.

(39:23):
And again, you know they said I gotta be from spikes.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
Okay, the.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
I don't know, it's they had no turnovers, which was huge.
They had some drop issues, of course, I'm not giving
them an A plus. There were issues. The run blocking
could be better, but the pass protection was great. There
was no turnovers. Saying, manage the ball fantastically the entire game.
I'm I am incredibly geared up for this offense. I

(39:54):
don't care what the statistics of what the offense did
this weekend say.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
Yeah, defense, I've kind of torn between it A and
A plus. I very very good. The second half rushing, rushing,
rushing stop is really I'm having a hard issue, hard
time put not putting, giving a plus or not because
of letting up five point four yards on the ground

(40:24):
on that second half there. So I'll say an A.
So so as stellar, stellar defensive effort by this defense,
so I'll say an A.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Okay, I'll say this. I'm let's again consider.

Speaker 4 (40:41):
Who they're They did slam the door shut when they
needed to that I mean, yes, yes, I'm just splitting
hairs at this point.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
So yeah, I mean again, this was the number one
team in the country they were playing.

Speaker 4 (40:56):
Yes, such a jerk, Kyle.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
I mean, I'm I'm gonna agree with I agree with
Kyle and just do an A. You have to execute
better as far as the wide receivers. Excuse me, we're
talking about the defense, but I am still just going
to go with a defense. Defense. Yeah, I mean five
point four let up on the ground when I don't

(41:18):
think Texas again has a good running attack, and you
were aided a lot by Arch just dirting the ball
over and over again, It's hard for me to give
an A plus when you received when you let that
much up on the ground and you received that much
assistance from the other team's quarterback.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
Yep, all right, and overall overall a very solid a
you beat you beat Texas. I think have.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
Favored two win it all.

Speaker 4 (41:54):
I think was I think it was the betting favorite
to win it all. And you eat them at home.
You only let up seven points. Yeah, fantastic outcome.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to throw the
plus on this. I'm gonna have to do an A plus.
Number one team in the country, you just lost what
was it twelve fourteen thirteen players to the draft? You
lost was it thirteen draftable or yeah, thirteen players to
the draft? And then week one you defeat the number

(42:31):
one team in the country. Granted they also lost a
lot of players to the draft court fourteen fourteen, Yeah,
two new coordinators, fourteen players lost to the draft, and
then you show up and you beat the number one
team in the country, granted at home. But still, that's
gotta be an A plus.

Speaker 4 (42:52):
Right, And I got an A in chat as well.
All right, that is our scorecard. Yeah, Yeah, some work
to be done, some work to be done on the offense. Defense,
stellar and overall, very happy Buckeye fans.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Absolutely, I'm I'm incredibly I'm more. I'm much more excited
about this year now than I was than I was
before the game. Yeah, I said a lot of what
this season would be would hinge on Julian saying because

(43:32):
he was just the biggest unknown, and he was tremendous.
Uh really for considering the competition he was playing, considering
it was his first ever start, considering he's a red
shirt freshman, I mean not even his first. These were
his first competitive snaps. They were, and he looked that good.

Speaker 4 (43:56):
Future's right.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
I saw a lot of CJ. Stroud and him. I'm excited,
all right, Kyle. Do you want to hit the questions
super quick quick?

Speaker 5 (44:07):
Yep?

Speaker 4 (44:07):
We got two two quick questions here. First one here,
what are some creative ways to use JJ when coverage
is too tight?

Speaker 1 (44:16):
Don't? And that's a controversial opinion, but you got Max Claire,
you got you got an entire crew of you have
Carnell Tait, Brandon Ennis. Do you have this entire crew
of pass catchers. If they want to put two or
three guys on one of your guys, the other guys

(44:37):
are going to be open. Yep.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
I I agree with that.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
Them them for putting for trying to take JJ out
of the game by just giving it to one of
your other amazing wide receivers until they can no longer
do that, and then now he has now he is
more open.

Speaker 4 (44:59):
M all right, And the last question we have here
do we think Brandon innis seeming lack of involvement in
the offense was a Texas thing or is or is
he the odd man out this year?

Speaker 1 (45:12):
Texas thing?

Speaker 4 (45:13):
Like they kind of like the twenty twenty five Julian
Fleming if you.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
Will, nas it's not a Julian Fleming situation. Yeah, I
think they played it's it's they played a lot of
They played a lot of two tight ends this game.
And when you put a second tight end on the field,
that means you take the slot wide receiver off the field.
That's that's just math.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
You have.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
Again, true freshman wide receiver taking or true freshman quarterback
taking his first ever snaps.

Speaker 4 (45:45):
Quarter a quarter of Julian saying passing attempts a quarter
of them or to his tight ends.

Speaker 1 (45:55):
I I don't know what to do that.

Speaker 4 (45:58):
That's just that just feels a pro to both tight ends,
so to Yeah, to go along with what you're saying,
multi motible tight end looks here, and he was looking
at both of them.

Speaker 1 (46:10):
Yeah, this was just a two tight end sort of
football game. This was a run the ball type of
football game, especially like you got into the fourth quarter
and Day and company were happy to run the clock
and let the defense win it. And it worked out.
It just there weren't a lot how many How many
passes did say and even throw, Yeah, that's not a lot.

(46:34):
They were happy again late in the game to kill
the clock and let the defense win it, and.

Speaker 4 (46:40):
It worked sixty sixty five completion with are you adding
for it? In the cow many? With however many drops
there was, I can't I can't find I can't find it.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
There were four total, there were there were four, like
egregious drops. But yeah, that's fantastic, fantastic work. By saying
I'm so excited for Julian saying yes.

Speaker 4 (47:05):
Yes, all right, all right, I think that is it, Jared.
We gave our gratings, we answered some questions. I think
I think we're good.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
All right. Tonight's ending music We brought to you by Well, Kyle,
do you have anything in Kyle's corner? Sorry?

Speaker 4 (47:24):
Uh, you can think we can all agree. I think
we can all agree, even before, even before today Jared
mm hmm, I think especially today that the uh ESPN FPI,
it's complete crap.

Speaker 1 (47:44):
Yeah, FBI kept Texas at number one. Listen, it's a
computer poll. Computer polls only work when there's data. Listen.
This is not the This is not FPI's fault. This
is ESPN's fault. You can't release the computmuter pole with
such limited data. This is ESPN's fault for putting it out.

(48:05):
It pissed off a bunch of Ohio State fans, which
got ESPN a bunch of attention, which is what they wanted. Now,
will it also end up like discrediting the FPI in
a lot of people's eyes. Yes, did they? Did they
go for short term rage bait over long term quality? Yes, well,

(48:27):
there were still games left to be played when they
released it. That too, spikes.

Speaker 4 (48:32):
According to Pick six Previews, ESPN FPI is rated the
fourth worst out of the top ten publications in preseason
prediction accuracies over the past ten years. It's a it's
a computer pole out of ten. It is a computer poll.
It needs data to work. A computer pole shouldn't be

(48:53):
doing a preseason poll. A computer poll shouldn't be releasing
ratings the FPI. It's complete horse shit.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
No, ESPN is horse shit for releasing a computer poll
without data to put into the damn computer FPI is.
I'm not going to defend it. I'm not saying it's great.
What I am saying is that it's an algorithm. You
need data to put into the algorithm. You can't use

(49:28):
a computer poll as a preseason poll or as a
week one poll. This is this is again, am I
even saying the FPI is good or even whatever I
am saying? This is ESPN's fault. That's all I'm saying. Like,
the FPI is fine, maybe slightly below fine as far

(49:49):
as algorithmic polls go. But it's it's an algorithm. It's
an algorithm operating without data. All right, that's it, Jared,
we can we can send it there. Okay, all right,
tonight's ending music. We've brought to you by two cow Garage.
So with all that being said, I'd like to encourage

(50:12):
everyone to drink local beer, listen to local music, and
four sports local podcasters. Once again, this is too cal garage.

Speaker 6 (50:19):
