Speaker 1 (00:00):
All you have to do is
realize and be brave in the
Lord because, again, he has notgiven us a spirit of fear, but
of love and of power and of asound mind.
So when you have a sound mind, you have the intelligence, the
spiritual intelligence, to sayhey, wait a minute, let me stop.
No, hold on what's happening,everybody.
(00:36):
It's another episode of thesoul fuel podcast.
Your pit stop for your soul tobe fueled and gassed up for your
journey in life, of course, doing it with christ.
I'm your host, willie robbinsIII, aka Pastor Will.
Listen, I'm just here to giveyou words of wisdom, tidbits,
whatever the Holy Spirit givesyou know what I'm saying.
That's what I'm going to giveyou.
I ain't tripping, you know.
I hope you are doing well andthis episode finds you where it
(01:02):
needs to find you.
All right, listen, today I justwant to get straight to it.
I want to talk about thingsthat are getting ready to come
up in life the next event, thenext temptation.
I want to talk about the comingattractions.
Right, the definition.
(01:22):
I was looking up the definitionof coming attraction because it
was literally like the titlethat came to my mind, and I
wrote this episode title a longtime ago, but I really didn't
have any substance to go with itand as I was, as I was thinking
of the title, you know, therewas a few words that came to me
and I wanted you to understandthat as much talk as as I am
(01:46):
teaching that I do about, youknow, walking in the spirit and
staying free and living a lifefree from sin, um, as much as I
know how, I'm also realisticallyletting you know that I am
(02:16):
realistic about it.
Let me rephrase that wholething because it just sounded
really funky as much asrighteous living and sin-free
living that I talk and teach andpreach, I believe that I
wholeheartedly believe that andScripture backs me up on that
view.
While I do all of that and livethat, as much as I know how,
(02:42):
according to the best of myability, as the Spirit gives me
the grace to do it, just as weall have the ability to do it
with the Holy Spirit living onthe inside of us, I will tell
you that it's not always easyand that there will be coming.
We can't pretend that we are notattracted to some things all
(03:06):
right, like come on.
I mean let's not act as if theflesh won't ever flesh like for
real, like don't.
Let's not pretend that theflesh won't flesh like.
The flesh won't ever wantanything this lost world has to
offer.
The true power in remainingunsportsmanlike by the world is
(03:32):
us living in the spirit.
There are more than enough waysaround temptation.
All right, there are more thanenough ways around temptation.
The reality is that, as humans,we are naturally attracted to
(03:54):
many things the world has tooffer, and I should say, and
word this like this, that theworld has things that are
attractive.
I won't say that we're all likeeverybody's attracted to the
same things.
It's not true.
There are things that areattractive to believers, right,
(04:23):
and when we pretend like itisn't, then we we really deceive
ourselves and it doesn't helpus to move forward.
It doesn't help us to live in atruthful way, and all it's
going to take at that point whenwe're deceiving ourselves, all
it's going to take is a momentof a lapse of judgment, a moment
(04:48):
of of, uh, being vulnerable towhat the flesh is trying to
persuade your mind to take holdof or grab.
Um, we're going to fall.
We're going to fall If youdon't realize that it's the
(05:14):
flesh is going to want what itwants.
But again, as I've said it athousand times, you don't have
to act on it, you don't have toeven behave on it Right on it,
you don't have to even behave onit right.
So what I want you tounderstand is that james says
(05:39):
this, for every man is jameschapter 1, I believe it's verse
14 for every man is tempted whenhe is drawn away by his own
lust, his own evil desires, andenticed we talked about this
before, I've said this beforewhen he entertains evil desires,
(06:05):
when he gives thought withthoughtful actions that end up
giving birth to sin.
How does it give birth to sin?
Well, because you carried outthe thought and you put emphasis
(06:28):
on the thought and you dressthe thought.
You know what it's like takingthoughts, cooking them, taking
the lust of the eyes, the lustof the flesh and the pride of
life, and putting it in a potlike eggs and batter, and all of
this, and you put it in theoven.
Putting it in the oven, is youacting out on it?
(06:48):
Ding when the oven is youacting out on it?
Ding when the oven stops, you're giving birth to death.
Why?
Because, well, sin is givingbirth to death, because that's
all that sin can bring is death, because the wages of sin is
death.
But the gift of God is you gotit the eternal life.
You got it, the eternal life.
(07:09):
You got it.
So you got to understand.
You got to understand thatthere is power in living in the
Spirit so that you can fight theflesh.
The flesh is always going to beflesh in y'all.
That's all I'm sayingessentially.
I'm not going back on anything.
I've ever taught anything.
(07:29):
I've ever preached.
When it comes to sin, right, because sin is the missing of
the mark.
Sin, the definition of sin, isreally just doing evil in the
sight of the Lord and people, you know people argue with me
and want to go back and forthabout no, so you're going to sin
.
You're going to sin.
You're going to sin.
No, you will have temptation, you will be tempted.
It is up to you whether you'regoing to fall to that temptation
(07:53):
or not.
It is always up to you.
And I have to use this platform, I have to use this podcast to
encourage you and make sure thatyou understand the power that
you hold when you are a believer.
(08:13):
If there are people, this iswhat gets me, because there are
people in the world, and Ialways use the word because
there are people out in theworld who don't do nothing.
They probably don't even knowJesus.
They will make an amazingbeliever if they add some prayer
to their lives right.
They will make an amazingbeliever.
(08:34):
These people don't have sex, these people don't do drugs,
these people don't drink, thesepeople don't steal, these people
don't kill, these people don'tlie, these people don't cheat,
but they just don't know Jesusand unfortunately, that's not
good enough.
But why is it that everybodythat knows Jesus struggles with
(08:57):
things that they have the powerto be in control of by way of
the spirit that lives within, huh huh.
So, as paul says in galatiansone of my favorite scriptures,
that I always quote this, andthose of you that listen to me a
(09:19):
lot in our morning prayers onon my youtube channel, you know
I quote this a lot because Ibelieve that I'm just one of
those people, not just, I'm justa believer that strongly
believes in being free fromstepping into those coming
(09:43):
attractions, and this is thereason why I wanted you to hear
this and I wanted you to knowabout the coming attractions,
because, just because you'regrowing in your prayer life and
just because you pray everymorning.
It's because I pray everymorning Doesn't mean I won't get
faced with challenges, I won'tget faced with thoughts, I won't
get faced with different thingsthat will try to um, uh, be
(10:09):
appealing or be sexy to me,right, like these are things
that are going to happen.
But it's up to you, and withthat prayer life that you have,
or you say you have, or all ofthe prayers that we do, I should
be able to muster up more thanenough strength to say no to sin
(10:35):
.
I can do it, and if I can do it, you can do it.
And again, if somebody who isnot a believer can do these
things and achieve these things, how much more powerful are you
who has the Spirit of God?
I'm just saying, like it makes1,000% sense to me and I hope
(11:03):
that this is making 1,000% senseto you.
So, galatians 5, 16 and 17,.
But I say walk by the spirit, and you will not carry out the
desire of the flesh, for theflesh sets its desire against
the spirit and the spiritagainst the flesh, for these are
(11:24):
in opposition to one another,so that you may not do the
things that you please.
And the things that he speaksof, that we please, are the
things that approach us, thethings that come to test us, the
things that come to tempt us.
To go back to what James saysin chapter 1, james, chapter 1,
(11:44):
verse 14, every man is temptedwhen he's drawn away by his own
lust, right?
So you know where people were.
Somebody has had a problem withsex.
Somebody has had a problem withsmoking weed.
Somebody has had a problem withgetting drunk.
(12:07):
That's not everybody's problem.
That's not everybody's problem.
That's not everybody's vice.
And watch this, just because itis a vice, let me give the
definition of vice.
Let me give the definition ofvice real quick.
Let me look at the word vice.
I know what it means, but Ireally y'all know, I like to
(12:31):
really look at words, right?
So vice is, wow, immoral orwicked behavior.
Vice is criminal activityinvolving prostitution,
(13:01):
pornography or drugs.
Right, vice is an immoral orwicked personal characteristic.
So, wait a minute, wait aminute.
(13:21):
So a vice again criminalactivity involving prostitution,
pornography or drugs.
We have to go back and we haveto look at this.
Y'all, we got to look at it.
We got to look at it Because Iwas getting ready to say that
(13:42):
whatever.
No, it just goes exactly withwhat I was getting ready to say
that whatever.
No, it just goes exactly withwhat I was getting ready to say,
which is everybody has adifferent vice, but the vice is
not something that sticks withyou as something that you always
have to look out for becauseyou're growing.
(14:03):
Hear me what I'm telling you.
You are growing, so when yougrow, what you used to have to
look for, you don't have to becareful about it anymore because
I'm already aware Like theanswer is no.
I don't struggle with thatRight Again.
So it goes back, because I wastalking about James, chapter 1,
verse 14, but every man istempted when he's drawn away by
(14:23):
his own evil desire.
We can actually replace thewords evil desire with vice,
because a vice is an evil desire, right?
Couldn't we agree?
Couldn't we say that that avice is an evil desire when
every man is tempted, whenyou're tempted by something that
should not be tempting youwatch this, I need you to get
(14:46):
this.
When you're tempted bysomething that should not be
tempting you, but it is, it'stempting because there's an
attractiveness to it.
It was attractive, and beingattracted means that I'm moving
towards what is attractive.
Oh, come on, help me, holySpirit.
(15:09):
Something being attractive isdifferent from me being
attracted.
We can all notice and admit, because we're human, that there
are things again in the worldthat are attractive.
But the closer I get to theLord I will not be attracted and
(15:32):
that means that I will not be.
I will not be drawn to it,because to be drawn means I'm
being pulled in that directionand that's not what we are doing
as believers.
We're not being drawn into thatdirection like that.
We are able to see thatsomething is attractive and to
know what it is, and we're ableto use discernment even when it
(15:55):
doesn't outright look like whatwe thought it should look like,
and how some have fell victim tosome of these things because
it's only been disguised.
And that's another way that thedevil loves to try to get
people is disguising things andmaking it look like something
(16:18):
else.
But the moment you get involvedwith it, it slowly takes the
mask off.
Jinkies, it's Professor, comeon.
Like Scooby-Doo.
You're just like them.
Velma and Fred and all them, and Scoob and Shag.
(16:38):
You're sitting there like them, running around being afraid of
something that you know what itis.
It's chasing you.
You even met the thing before.
Oh man, that Scooby-Dooreference came in right on time.
Thank you, lord.
Jesus, like what's chasing youis something that you know.
(17:04):
If you stop and realize that, hey, hey, it can't do nothing to
me, and in some cases it hasyou, you, you got trapped and it
did do something to you becausethe most that that that the
villains did in in in scooby-doo, in that show, is tie shaggy
(17:24):
and scoby up, tie Velma up Velma.
Watch this, though, but Velmaloses her glasses, she loses her
vision, so she can't seebecause she's careless.
I hope y'all going with me rightnow, because I believe that the
Lord is talking right now, andI'm just using Scooby-Doo as an
(17:47):
impromptu illustration becauseit makes so much sense.
You're you.
God is not giving us a spiritof fear, but if you're living
like shaggy and scooby, you'realways hungry.
You're always hungry, but atthe same time you're always
scared.
How can you be hungry andscared at the same time?
(18:08):
It's funny, because shaggingand scooping, no matter what
they're going through, no matterhow scary something is, they're
gonna always eat.
They're gonna always eat, andso can I tell you that that
that's symbolic for the cares ofthis life.
(18:29):
The temptation Scooby can belured by Scooby Snacks.
Stop running from thingsbecause and I and I use scooby,
scooby uh, the tv show, thecartoon, as an illustration
because everybody in everyepisode that was the villain was
(18:55):
always in a mask and the gangmet them at some point before
the spookiness stuff started tohappen.
So that's why I say you knowwhen you're running, when you
when, when temptation isdisguised, you've seen it before
(19:16):
, you failed to it before youfell to that particular sin, you
fell to that, to that uh uh,that that before you've done it
before.
All you have to do is realizeand be brave in the Lord because
, again, he has not given us aspirit of fear, but of love and
of power and of a sound mind.
So when you have a sound mind, you have the intelligence, the
(19:38):
spiritual intelligence, to sayhey, wait a minute, let me stop.
No, hold on, I'm about to fightright now, because I'm about to
take the mask off.
This thing Ah, it's you, it'ssex, it's worldly desire, it's
secular, it's drugs, it'sprostitutes, it's porn, it's a
(20:02):
man, it's a man, it's a woman.
This is the same attractivenessthat I was attracted to before.
So when I take the mask off ofit, I'm able to identify it as a
fraud, as fake as fake and whenyou are really in God, you
(20:29):
don't have time to run fromthings that have no power over
you.
It runs from you because youhave already cast away those
thoughts.
You have already cast away thatthoughts, you have already cast
away that ideology.
You're not operating the sameway you used to because you knew
(20:53):
that those attractions werecoming.
You knew that there were rollercoasters, there were rides,
there were stories, there wereevents.
There are events, there areroller coasters, there are
disguised temptations that willcome.
(21:16):
But again, this is why I stressthe importance, and why
Scripture stresses theimportance, of walking in the
spirit.
I hope you got this today.
So that's all I got for y'all.
I hope this was good.
Again, I want y'all to leave areview, leave a comment, share
