Ever find yourself chasing after desires that ultimately leave you feeling empty? On this episode of the Soul Fuel Podcast, we tackle the profound theme of using our time and talents wisely, according to God's plan. Pastor Will Robbins III shares personal anecdotes about the distractions that come from pursuing material wants, like cars and homes, which can lead us away from truly appreciating God's blessings. Through the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6, we explore the importance of trusting in God's direction and discerning between our wants and needs to stay on the right path. This heartfelt discussion aims to help you recognize and avoid the pitfalls of investing time and energy in pursuits that don't serve your greater purpose.

Struggling with time management and feeling the pressure of comparison? Pastor Will opens up about his own battles with these issues, highlighting the individual nature of each person's journey. By sharing his experiences with the temptations of following others' paths—like returning to traditional schooling despite unique personal responsibilities—we understand the value of individualized education routes and opportunities.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
that you can look up and see that, hey, first of all,
it's not too late to go back toschool to do something that you
want to do.
If you want to get stronger inbusiness, you want to have a
better business mindset, whatever you feel like you need
to do in all your ways, acknowledge him and he's going
to direct your path.
Last thing you want to do iscomplicate your life by doing

(00:35):
what's going on everybody.
It's the soul fuel podcast.
Welcome back to another episode, the pit stop for you to get
your soul gassed up for yourjourney in life, and also doing
it with Christ.
Of course, there is no otherway to do it.
I'm your host, will Robbins III, aka Pastor Will.
Listen, I just want to continueto talk from a previous episode

(00:55):
that we had and I didn't reallyget a chance to say everything
that I wanted to say, everythingthat needed to be said.
As it regards to wasting time, you can't waste time.
I just want to come back toremind you that you can't waste
time because if you do, you'lllook up.
Time ago by and you'll look upand you'll see that there has

(01:16):
nothing that has beenaccomplished.
So don't waste time onfoolishness.
Don't waste time on people.
What do you mean by that?
Well, you can't afford to wastetime on not just people, but
stupid people, ignorant people, people who choose to be ignorant

(01:38):
, people who choose to bewillfully stupid, stupid, right?
You can't afford to waste time, because if you waste time and
it is at the fault of firstly, your own, then it's them, right,

(02:00):
they become the reason, eventhough it's your fault.
Does that make sense?
It's your fault if you allowpeople to become the reason that
you waste time.
I have to say it like thatbecause there is really no other
way to say it.
Don't waste your resources onpeople who don't want to be

(02:24):
helped, who don't want to movepast where they are, because
it's not doing anything butholding you back.
At the end of the day, it's notdoing anything, but holding you
back.
It's stopping you from doingwhat you know you're supposed to
be doing.
It's stopping you from usingyour gift and your talent that

(02:46):
God has given you to be able tobring glory to his name.
It slows you down andoftentimes we find ourselves not
where we want to be because wewasted time not just on people,
but on trying to gain thingsthat we don't need.

(03:08):
We're trying to gain thingsthat we don't need.
I don't know about you, but I Ihave wasted some time before in
the past where I was trying togain something that I know I
didn't really need, such as cars, a car, a particular kind of

(03:38):
place to live, because the factof the matter is I had what I
needed.
The Lord has always suppliedwhat I needed.
It's just not what I wanted, and when you get caught up in
what you want versus what youneed, you will always waste time

(03:59):
.
You'll always beprocrastinating because you'll
you'll be putting yourself in aplace that, first of all, is not
pleasing in the sight of theLord, and you stress yourself
out.
Have you ever thought aboutthat?
Everybody who's worked so hardto get some of the things that

(04:19):
they got, it was very.
Not only did it take hard work, pretty much everything takes
hard work.
There's no.
We're not eliminating hard worklike hard, genuine work.
We're not eliminating that.
I'm not talking against that.
I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about when you goout of your way to achieve a
certain thing, when you go outof your way to try to pursue

(04:43):
something that it's looking likeit's not for you right now.
It's not the time of your lifethat you need to be going after
a particular kind of job.
Right, you have differentresponsibilities.
You have to be able again, again, to go back to proverbs 3

(05:04):
mindset and and and trust in thelord with all your heart, doing
what, leaning not to your ownunderstanding.
I think this is the reason why Ilove that scripture so much is
because people tend to overlookthe fact that they're doing

(05:25):
exactly what Proverbs says notto do.
Think about it, like, reallythink about that.
People don't realize it.
It's a very popular text, it'sa very popular proverb, penned
by none other than Big Solomon, big Solo, none other than Big

(05:49):
Solomon, big Solo, like nobody.
I don't think people are really, really, really understanding
that.
You know what?
Let me pull it up.
Let me pull it up.
I'm getting ready to pull it up.
Proverbs 3, I really, I reallywant to look at this.
Proverbs three Let me get old.
Good, uh, nasb on you.

(06:15):
Watch this.
Verse three Um, not verse three.
Chapter three Proverbs, chapterthree says verse in verse um,
five trust in the lord with allyour heart and lean not on your

(06:36):
own understanding.
In all your ways, submit to himand he will make your path
straight.
Another version says he willdirect your path.
I like direct path because notall the time is the path going
to seem straightforward, right.

(06:56):
There are going to be somezigzags, there are going to be
some turns.
That's why I like King JamesVersion when it says direct your
path because your path, like weknow that the path with him is
straight and narrow.
We know this.
But as we navigate through lifeand life's turns and obstacles,

(07:19):
we have to understand that if weacknowledge him through all of
our ways and the ways that we go, it doesn't matter what we face
, because we're still on astraight and narrow, because
he's the one that is directingthe path.
And when you know that he'sdirecting the path, it's never
wasted time.
But again, when we lean to ourown understanding, when we think

(07:46):
we know and we don't, we leadourselves to problems that don't
even have to take place.
We know, again, that problemswill arise.
We're going to have challenges,we're going to have different
things that are going to happenin life.
That are going to happen inlife.

(08:09):
But all of that is a part ofour experience in our time, that
is here, that we have here onearth as believers.
So, again, this is a call toremind you again in this part
two of that past episode, theprevious episode, to not waste
time on people.
Don't waste time chasing thingsthat don't even matter.

(08:29):
Don't try to be wise in yourown eyes, according to verse 7.
Do not be wise in your own eyes.
Fear the Lord and shun evil.
Fear the Lord and do away withevil.
This is a constant choice daily, straight up.

(08:51):
It's a constant choice daily, and when you don't waste time,
watch this.
You are able to be diligent.
You're able to be diligent totake your work serious, to take
all of your time serious, to dowhat it is you have to do.

(09:11):
Again, I've said this many timesbefore I've been guilty of poor
time management recording theseepisodes.
I told myself I'm going to dobetter at getting these episodes
recorded, because there arepeople that want to hear what I
have to say, that what the Lordgives me, what to say and what

(09:35):
to share, how to share it.
This is a platform that I'musing to talk about the things
that happen in life, some of theeven sharing my own stories.
There are times where I feltlike I wasted so much time, and

(09:58):
when you stop and think aboutthe past and how you possibly
have wasted time.
It makes you feel not so good.
It doesn't feel good to feellike you wasted time Because

(10:24):
there were times where I lookedat other people's careers and
film and not more so, not evenministry, but just like film and
and cinematography anddirecting and I've seen other
people's journeys and I saidwhat have I done with my time?
What have I done with my time?

(10:45):
And I believe I kind of shareda little bit of this in the
previous episode.
But I want to go further and saythis that I was double-minded.
I was double-minded in thinkingin one breath I'm like okay,

(11:06):
okay, that's not my path, Ican't.
You know they.
They went to usc, they went touh, um, um, you know these,
these different colleges.
They went to nyu.
You know they, they, they didthis.
Maybe I need to do that.
Maybe I need to go back toschool.
I even entertained going back toschool so I could go back, so
so that I could try to umachieve my goals in the same way

(11:31):
that they happen for otherpeople in the industry that I
wanted to be a part of, when, according to my life and the
things that I have going on andmy responsibilities, my wife, my
children, where I live, what Ihave access to, the money in the

(11:51):
bank.
I didn't have the coins to goback to school, to go to school
and do the things that I feltlike I needed to do to achieve
my goal at a higher standard, because I was stuck in the
mindset of comparison, andcomparison absolutely kills

(12:17):
Comparison, kills your drive, itkills your energy.
It ultimately chokes your faith.
It chokes your faith.
It chokes your faith becauseyou're looking to try to add up,

(12:38):
add up and tally up all thesedifferent milestones that are
not going to be the same, because you have a different
calling and you have to realizethat your gift is not always the
thing that you were called todo, but the gift is always to

(13:04):
compliment your calling.
There are some people that endedup doing things that they never
thought that they would do andthey wasted time.
So many people go to collegeand graduate and go into fields
that they didn't even go toschool for and it seems like
they have wasted so much time.

(13:25):
In all actuality, they shouldhave, probably, and if you are
in this situation right now, orif you have children that are in
this situation right now incollege or getting ready to come
out of high school, gettingready to graduate or whatever it
is.
They have to keep that mindsetthat, hey, just because you go
to college does not mean youcome out to go work for somebody

(13:47):
to do the thing that you wentto school for, but sometimes it
means that you got everything.
You did the four yearinstitution, you did that study
at a two year college, thetechnical institute, whatever it
is that you did communitycollege, whatever Right.
You did that so that you couldcome out and start your own and
do your own and be successful atthat and let the Lord lead you

(14:08):
in that, instead of trying to ohwell, see, I got to be in the
industry first.
I need to be where somebodywill know that's cool and that's
fine.
Yeah, we should be learningfrom other people that are
already doing it, but at thesame time, you could just make
that an internship while you areworking what God has put into

(14:30):
your hands.
This is why I, you know, when itcomes to college and school, I
am an advocate for education.
I I am.
But, however, I don't believethat college is for everybody.
I don't believe that thefour-year institution is for

(14:52):
everybody.
I don't believe that.
You know, community college isfor everybody.
Sometimes I believe thattechnical college, a tech school
of some sort, to go to schoolfor a trade, is for everybody.
Workshops, seminars, all ofthese things I believe are more

(15:19):
beneficial to an individual sothat they are proficient or
efficient with their time, sothey're not wasting time.
You know, I never wanted to havea college experience or the

(15:41):
HBCU experience, because a lotof times that's why people go.
People go to college just sothey can experience and have the
college experience, but itcomes with a price tag.
All this stuff is set up tokind of keep you in debt and all
of these things.
So when you go, you have tomake sure that you're going and
you have to stay focused.

(16:02):
And so shout out to all thepeople that went to college and
went to college and came out andeventually ended up doing what
they wanted to do.
Um, you know, shout out to you, shout out to you.
But I mentioned all of that andI I say all of that to get back
around to how I felt like that'swhat I needed to do.
I needed to go back and kind oflike, try to start over now.

(16:25):
It's too late.
It was too late for me, andthat's not to say that I can't
go back to school now.
I could do whatever I want, youknow.
Uh, you know, based on myability of having free will, I
can do whatever I want.
But is that what the Lord wantsme to do?
Is that what's best for me todo?
You know, even being marriednow, I have to consult with my

(16:46):
wife like babe, should I go backand do this?
And I'm sure she would probablybe in my corner and support me,
as she's done everything else.
But I don't feel like I need togo back and get a piece of
paper so that I can validatewhat I know.
I'm already good at a piece ofpaper, so that I can validate

(17:10):
what I know I'm already good at.
It's on me to stop wasting timeand put in the time and the
effort it takes to go to thenext level.
What you're watching right now, even as you watch or listen to
this podcast, this is elevation.
We are elevated.
I am doing my best to elevateand I try to preach this and
teach this, preach it and teachit to my children as much as

(17:31):
possible.
I even teach it, to teach itand preach it to my wife.
I teach it and preach it to um,our church, everywhere.
Every time I have theopportunity to speak to people
and they want to listen to whatI have to say.
In regards to faith and livingin God and being all that we can
be in God, and having faith andincreasing in our faith is to

(17:54):
understand.
I want to make sure that weunderstand that we have to make
the most of our time.
You have to make the most ofthe time.
You know, sometimes days go bythere.
There's certain not days, butthere'll be a particular day in
the week where I know that Iwasted a day like for real.

(18:15):
I can't stand those days.
This summer, I feel like Ispent a lot of time, you know,
creating, preaching, doing, doing a lot of things that I
love.
I spent a lot of time, probablywith my oldest son and going to

(18:36):
the gym, working out, playingbasketball All those things are
cool, but what have I done atthe end of the day, at the end
of by the time we get to the endof summer, what have I done to

(19:12):
expand on that?
So I can say this in thisepisode straight up.
I have seen some success.
Seen some success today, as Iam recording this episode.

(19:35):
Earlier today I finished ascript to my second feature film
, so I am ecstatic about that,I'm excited about that.
Sent the new version to two ofmy actresses that I, you know, I
hit up to be in the movie.
I'm working on the other one,you know, and I spoke to another

(20:02):
actress friend of mine, when Itold her the um idea, she asked.
She began to like question the, the, the storyline, and she
questioned it by asking me why.
Like every time I saidsomething, she was like why?
And then it got to a point towhere I couldn't, I didn't know

(20:22):
why anymore.
And so shout out to those kindof people who are there to
challenge you and push you to bebetter, push things to be
better because you are better, because you can be better.
So, with that being said, I'mtelling you this because it made
the project better.

(20:42):
She told me this Saturday I hither up and I was like, hey, I
just want to let you know I'mworking on this project and
she's been busy, whatever.
So she hit me back late and, um, she was like give me a call.
So I called her and I told herabout it and that's when she
said what she said and I saidyou know what, thank you, I
appreciate you, I appreciate it,and it actually put push the

(21:07):
project more into glorifying God.
It's not that it wasn't before, but it just it wasn't all the
way focused, if I'm being honest, and so now it just just laser
beam right on point, right whereI need it to be, especially for

(21:30):
those, you know, those peoplethat will come across this movie
, that are going through some ofthe things that, that, that one
or so.
So, yeah, shout out to havingsome artistic friends who you

(21:52):
can, you know, um, bounce thingsoff of, because this, this
fifth version, this is my fifth,I believe my fifth version of
this movie.
Right, it's now in a placewhere there's some word in it
like actual word and it's notcorny, it's not preachy, it's

(22:15):
not, it's.
I felt it's in a, it's in theright place.
And so another reason why Itold you this is because I
didn't waste any time.
I took Monday, today's Tuesday,of this recording.
I took Monday and Tuesday and Iwrote this Today.

(22:37):
I was super tired.
I took like a two-hour,three-hour nap because I went to
bed late Again, wasting time.
I don't mind going to bed late.
If I'm getting something done,I don't mind it.
Sometimes I go to bed late, just falling asleep on YouTube,

(23:02):
being distracted by things thatdon't really matter.
It's not sinful, but it's awaste of time.
Too much wasted time can can gointo sin, depending on what

(23:27):
you're doing.
But this is the purpose of of ofpart two, and I hope I've said
something in this episode thatyou can really put into action,
that you can look up and seethat, hey, first of all, it's
not too late to go back toschool to do something that you
want to do.
If you want to, to get strongerin business, you want to have a
better business mindset, whatever you feel like you need

(23:48):
to do in all your ways, acknowledge him and he's going
to direct your path.
Last thing you want to do iscomplicate your life by doing
something that's not pleasing inthe sight.
Listen, as I always do, I haveto give you some scripture here.
Proverbs 14, we've alreadymentioned Proverbs 3, but

(24:10):
Proverbs 14 and 23 says all hardwork brings a profit, all hard
work, all hard work brings aprofit.
But mere talk leads only topoverty.

(24:31):
That's why you got to put up orshut up, like the other episode
said, what we talked about inthe other episode.
You got to put up or shut up,do it or be quiet, because just
talk by itself leads to nothing.

(24:53):
It's just like what scripturetalks about when it comes to
living a life in Christ, livingholy.
Put up or shut up, don't justtalk it, but you got to walk it.
Y'all know that song Walk itlike I talk it, walk it, walk it
like I talk it.
Come on, you got to not justtalk the talk but also walk it.

(25:19):
There's more power behind thewalking, because the power in
the walking is going to bringpower to your talking.
Why?
Because we can believe what yousay, or the lord believes what
you say, but based on youractions.
I'm to say this the Lord blessedAbraham because he believed

(25:46):
Abraham.
Why did he believe Abraham?
Because Abraham got to walk it.
When he told him, go to a placewhere I will show you, he
didn't tell Abraham where he wasgoing.
He didn't tell Abraham hey,it's going to be Mount Moriah,

(26:06):
I'm going to tell you, but youjust got to go first.
So Abraham did not waste anytime.
He picked up, he took his son,he took Isaac, he took a couple
other people with him and theywent about their way and the
Lord showed him on the third daywhere to go.

(26:29):
So he takes up Isaac, isaacgoes.
You know the story Turns out.
The Lord just wanted to see himmake the offer.
He just wanted to see him makethe offer.
I just wanted to see if youwere willing to do it offer.
I just wanted to see if youwere willing to do.
I just wanted to see if youwere going to go there.
I he couldn't let that happen, right, because Jesus was already
the.
Jesus was the ram in the bushfor for us, and and it was

(26:52):
because of Abraham's ability tonot waste time and walk the walk
instead of just talking, thatthe Lord was pleased by his
faith, which is why today we caneven look back and even go to
Hebrews and look in Hebrews andand so many other places where,

(27:14):
where, where Paul talks aboutAbraham and how Abraham is the
father of faith.
Even Jesus mentions Abraham.
Abraham had faith, and so Ihope this is the fuel that you

(27:37):
needed so that you could keep ongoing even more, fuel that you
needed so that you could keep ongoing even more.
That's my goal.
To bring you week after week isto bring you heavy nuggets or
they might be light nuggets foryou, I don't know For you to be

(27:57):
able to keep going in God, toknow that everything that you do
in this life cannot be aproduct of wasted time.
Be smart.
Remember what Proverbs saysProverbs 14, 23,.
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to

(28:21):
poverty.
Remember that if you're gonnatalk it, you gotta walk it so
that when you walk it, yourtalking has power.
Walk it like abraham did.
Not all the time will you knowexactly what the Lord is doing
in the season of your life.

(28:42):
You just have to trust him, trust the process, trust that he
knows what he's doing.
He promised to never leave younor forsake you, so don't you
leave him nor forsake him.
All right, I love y'all so much.
I want to make sure that youshare this podcast with your son

(29:09):
, your daughter, your mom, yourfather, your auntie, your uncle,

They might need this fuel.
