Addictions, Parenting, Autism, Faith: The Power of Love, THE REAL TERESA AND SCOTT LERETTE OF THE UNBREAKABLE BOY

Longtime friends of THE SOULFAM PODCAST, Scott and Teresa talk openly about their struggles, their doubts and yet their inspiration for their own heart-centered journey as portrayed in the Lionsgate/Kingdom Story movie. Austin, their oldest, very unexpected son (played by actor Jacob Laval) was born with brittle bone disease, a genetic disorder which Teresa also experiences. Austin later was eventually diagnosed with Autism after years of doctor visits and trial and error treatments and methods. Their younger son Logan, (played by Gavin Warren) now a police officer, has always stood witness to their journey while protecting his vulnerable brother.  This poignant honest conversation about the overwhelming responsibilities of raising children in uncharted waters of autism, multiple trips to the ER and the struggle to balance their own personal pain and self-doubt. Each parent found their own way to cope. Alcohol was one method, the other self-doubt and finally a surrender to embrace faith including God and Jesus Christ. The film and the book, THE UNBREAKABLE BOY, is based Scott's initial blogs, notes he wrote in story form to support his turn from alcoholism and an effort to more deeply understand his son. Teresa, a bonafide cook and hostess, found solace and inspiration for the continual juggle of life in her own deeply held faith. Though introduced to faith during her Southern upbringing, Teresa found power and support in her relationship with Jesus Christ. She continues to grown and share her faith and trust today. The movie is inspiring, poignant and emotionally cathartic.
