In this episode snippet, Cheryl Conquers expresses that Ghana has huge potential as a travel destination and describes it as the “new jewel of Africa,” especially with the recent rise of festivals and cultural events that appeal to a wide range of visitors. She says there’s something for everyone in Ghana and is planning to do a content trip there soon to highlight the country’s beauty from a more international perspective.
However, Cheryl also observes that Ghana’s tourism board and social media presence are very localised, often focusing on content that resonates mostly with local audiences (like posts in local dialects or highlighting traditional foods and dances), rather than creating content that would attract international tourists. She compares this with destinations like Turkey, where tourism boards tailor their marketing and social channels to a global audience, making it easier for international travelers to envision and plan trips there. Cheryl suggests that Ghana could benefit from a more internationally-focused marketing strategy to fully realise its potential as a leading travel destination.
