SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
The following podcast is a work of fiction.
All characters are the creationof Peter Williams.
Any resemblance to someoneliving or dead is purely
coincidental.
Thank you.
Presents.
This is such a nice thing toget.
A new coat.
Or a scarf.
A nice ring.

(00:20):
Or a hair ornament.
Perhaps a box of sweets.
Or my favorite.
Assorted nuts.
Today.
Today we'll pick up where weleft off.
Zack's birthday.
And he finally opens Cassandra'sthoughtful gift.

(00:42):
But before we do, let me firstremind you that this podcast may
contain images of graphicviolence, child endangerment,
adult situations, and naughty,salty language.
Now, let's unwrap our own gifton this Tentacle Tuesday with

(01:02):
another chapter.
As we turn the page to chapter4.
The present.
His dad, if it was his dad, seemed so different, so angry,
so the pain from where he hadpunched him still ached, and a

(01:23):
deep purplish bruising hadstarted to form.
Why?
Why was this happening to him?
He had lost his mom in an autoaccident, and his dad remarried,
and had been barely part of hislife, and Dot.
He looked across the room.
The packet from Cassandra wasstill sitting on his desk.
Either Dot didn't care about itor its contents, or she had

(01:46):
inexplicably missed it.
When they ripped out hiscomputer and game system,
getting topic was nearly enoughto make him double over again.
So he gritted his teeth and satback down at his desk.
He looked at the simple brownand paper twine that wrapped it.
A hundred to one, it's a book,Zack figured.
I mean, she's a nice old womanand at a tea shop.

(02:07):
What else would she give him?
Oh well, I have nothing betterto do, as he pulls the twine off
and carefully undoes thewrapping paper.
Not a book.
A box.
A wood box that looked ancientand somehow seemed to emanate a
static charge.
The box, a ten by ten, a deepgreen with a blue cover.

(02:29):
The cover would slide off likean old cigar box.
On the blue cover was aninteresting design.
The picture of a tentaclereaching up to the stars and
wrapping itself around the blueworld.
Whoever drew this too manyhorror flicks, he mumbles.
And he slides the cover off toreveal a book! A simple
leather-bound book with a blackhand and an eye at its center.

(02:52):
That and a red candle, matches, and several pieces of chalk.
Oh bother.
She can't be serious.
A spell book?
What a bunch of He goes to touchit.
Ow! No way! Could this really bereal?
Gritting his teeth, expectinganother shock, he picks up the
book.

(03:13):
Nothing.
Opening the first page, Zackstares in almost awe.
An illuminated gold-like pagewith red lettering meets his
eyes.

unknown (03:23):
Wow!

SPEAKER_00 (03:24):
That's beautiful! It was a note from Cassandra.
Happy birthday, Zack! This bookcontains dreams, powers, and
opportunities.
Use it in a private location andlet it guide you towards your
future.
A future that won't be sopainful.
Painful?
It had definitely been painful.

(03:45):
He pondered, where could he gothat would allow him privacy and
a chance to study this?
He didn't want to take a chancethat his dad and his stepmom
would catch him with this.
The woods.
But the creepy man.
Hmm.
I could ask Alex to help.
He wondered, but something toldhim that she wouldn't approve of

(04:07):
this, so.
The woods and the abandonedcabin it is.
He looked at the time.
It was nearly eleven, closingthe box back up and grabbing his
backpack, a pen flashlight, andprying his bedroom window open,
Zach jumps out into the night.
He quickly looks back at thehouse.
It was dark, he was not beingfollowed, and no one had heard

(04:28):
him leave.
Good.
I want to see where this bookwill take me.
Now, I don't know if you've everwalked in the woods after dark,
but it's a completely differentfeeling at night.
The tree limbs look like armsreaching for you.
Eyes of cats, owls, deers, andraccoons all shine in heaven
forbid.

(04:48):
The breeze blows.
Shrieks, snapping, whirlingleaves.
Yes, the wood in the day and thenight are two completely
different animals.
This was something Zack foundout very quickly as he stumbles
over even the smallest root orbranch along the same dirt path
he took earlier that morning.
A few times he nearly peedhimself at the sound of

(05:10):
something snorting, growling, oreven howling as they disturbed
the cold, eerie silence as hemarched along.
The cabin, he thought.
More a dilapidated shack inactuality.
He had hoped the wild man didn'tlive there.
He hadn't been there in aboutthree years.
He and some friends had hung outthere playing all sorts of

(05:32):
games.
Until some older kids gave themthe boot.
And honestly, after he saw whatthey had done here, none of them
ever wanted to go back.
What if they're here?
Unlikely.
1120, half moon in a blusterycold October night?
No.
If the wild man wasn't here, thecabin would be empty.

(05:53):
Upon seeing the cabin, Zachnearly turned back.
Like a charred piece of woodagainst the black background of
the night, surrounded by trees, trash, and heaven knows what
else, it was not a hospitableplace to approach or enter.
Even under the moonlightpiercing through the clouds
above, it reminded Zack of ablack tombstone.

(06:13):
Swallowing hard, he aims hisflashlight at the walls, empty
window frames, and a wide opendoorway.
Several used condoms layrotting, scattered about that,
and a few panties nailed to thedoorframe like trophies.
About three years ago, he andhis friends wouldn't really have
understood, but still, the cabinseemed to scream to him, yuck.

(06:36):
Inside an old stained mattresslay on the floor, beer and wine
bottles scattered about, and theremnants of a fire pit dug out
of the dirt floor.
If the wild man had lived here,he wasn't home.
And besides the level of skibeing 5,000, the place was
empty.
Finding a clean spot, he ploppeddown on the corner of the
mattress and lit a few candlesleft behind by whoever was here

(07:00):
last.
Opening the book again, he beganto become enamored by its pages.
One spell in particular caughthis fancy.
It would make him a walkingchick magnet.
Hmm.
Would that mean anyone I want?
He blushed at the thought ofbeing able to have Michelle.
Or better, Alex.
The temptation was almost toomuch to resist.

(07:23):
The idea of any woman.
Now that's a birthday present.
Thank you, Cassandra.
I wonder if that means she wantsme to use a spell so I can even
have her.
I mean she's old, but hey, whocares?
He follows the instructions inthe book, drawing out strange
patterns on the floor.
It wasn't like those satanicpentagrams you see in the horror

(07:45):
movies.
It was more like drawing adoorway or an arch on the floor.
Patterns and symbols go alongthe frame and finally a line
down the center.
Now for the key.
The red candle lighted and itwill open.
Okay, I will.
He picked up the red candle.
It was warm, odd.

(08:07):
He placed it on the keyhole atthe center of the door, and the
doorway lit up.
Like the paper began to glow agold color.
Each symbol takes its own light.
Then he watched as the doorsactually open for him.
A person takes form in thegrowing doorframe.
Slender, beautiful, dark hair, and sultry eyes.

(08:29):
Hello, Zach.
It's a pleasure to meet you, shesays as she steps forward.
Everything about her screamsbeautiful, her bare skin nearly
porcelain in color.
Cassandra said you were handsomeand well curious.
And I'm pleased to see.
She was correct.
He swallows hard.

(08:49):
He had seen a naked womanbefore, but not so close.
Not so um, he said, as shebegins to undo his shirt,
kissing him as she does so.
This seems a little fess.
I don't even know you.
She pulls back, feeling a littlehurt.
You don't?
We've chatted so often online, you even invited me over for

(09:12):
your birthday.
Yes.
The kissing became more intense, and who was he to say no?
Her mouth locked onto his, andthings began to blur into flesh,
touching, and then somethingslipped down his throat, causing
him to choke.
He pulled back for a second, sputtering as if he swallowed
her gum.
Sorry, I don't worry about it.

(09:34):
Should we continue?
He nodded yes, even though hefelt as if something sat in his
stomach.
Cupcakes?
Who knows?
Did it matter?
He was getting lucky.
He woke up the next morningnaked, but back in his bed.
Had he dreamt it?
Swinging his feet onto thefloor, he checks himself over in
the mirror.

(09:54):
Everything looked in order.
He could even see the love bitesrunning down his chest towards
his belly button.
It had definitely been real.
It was odd though.
The bruising from his dad'spunch was gone.
He thought about the whole thingfor a moment and began to squirm
a little with excitement as hebegan to relive last night's
events in his head.
He checks the time.
It was late.
He'd better take a cold showerand run to school.

(10:17):
Damn.
Drying, he paused again.
Dark lines seemed to run downfrom his belly button.
He touched them.
They hurt.
Scratches?
Did Nicole do this when hequickly shook off that thought.
He had to get to school and seethe result of how this chick
magnet spell worked.
Finally done dressing and notseeing Dot or Dad and running

(10:39):
late again, he decided to riskthe woods.
Halfway through, he saw the paththat cut towards the cabin and
thought about checking it out,but the squirming sensation in
his stomach didn't feeluncomfortable enough to continue
towards school, just in case hewas going to be sick again.
There was a memory he wished hecould forget.
So embarrassing.
He hadn't got another 50 feetwhen he heard someone call his

(11:01):
name.
He stopped.
It was raspy, as if someone wasstruggling to breathe or trying
to get his attention.

unknown (11:09):
Zack!

SPEAKER_00 (11:10):
He stopped and looked around.

unknown (11:12):
Zack!

SPEAKER_00 (11:13):
There, off the path, strung up on the tree was the
wild man, covered in bruises, lacerations, and a sign around
his neck.
Loose lips.
Holy shit! He begins to dig forhis cell phone and remembers Dot
and Daddy taking it last night.
I'll run and get back.

(11:35):
No.
Sorry.
So sorry.
The voice held no rhythmicchanges, but just pain something
else.
Something that made his bloodturn cold.
Zack! He choked out.
They did this to me.
They did this to us.

(11:56):
They needed to separate us.
Dad?
Hey, kiddo.
Sorry I missed your birthday.
Dad! How the fuck?
Who was that last night?
Who?
Stay away from Dot.
She's not human.
She's his eyes rolled up and hisbody goes limp.

(12:18):
Oh Dad! He didn't dare to goback home for a knife to cut him
down.
He would have to hit thesheriff's office and he doubled
over with pain.
It was as if something wascrawling inside him.
Ugh! He cried, catching himselfagainst a tree where his father
hung, and tears opened hisshirt.
The black marks have extendedoutward.

(12:40):
What is this?
Someone! Please! His eyes rolledinto his head and he blacks out,
not seeing the person watchinghim from afar.
Silas had watched through thetrees as Zack made his way from
his parents' house.
Things had gone almost a hundredpercent according to plan.

(13:01):
It would have been a hundredpercent, but she showed up.
Her last name may be different, but Silas recognized Alex
Kuchma.
It was the old man pretending tobe her father that hadn't
confused.
Who was he?
He had been through all therecords the cult had provided
for him, and only two matchesshowed up.

(13:22):
Jack Stevens, a human that hadserved as the founding member of
the Sacred Dawn.
He was said to have the powersof an angel, but he was dead.
That he was certain of.
The other was of Warren Stevens.
But he had died saving Alex.
No record of him has existed forover seven years.

(13:42):
So, a distant cousin?
Just a name being used to tryand troll the Cadig order.
He wasn't sure, and by day'send, that wouldn't matter.
The first part, securing anddistorting the boy, had already
been completed.
Next, tonight, he and Cassandrawould open up the gate for
Ekmalak, and before that, AlexKuchma would die, begging for

(14:06):
her life.
That was something he couldn'twait for.
But now it was time to bring Mr.
Taylor to his final destination.
He turned back to a figurestanding in the shadows.
I need some men of mud.
Create them for me.
Dot knelt down and scoopedtogether some dirt and sticking
her hand down her throat, pulledout a slack-like pouch with

(14:30):
white, wormy things clinging toit like maggots on a piece of
rotting meat, spitting on thedirt mounds and pressing a worm
into each of them before raisingher hands above them.
Sparks of electricity shot outof her hands and into the mounds

(14:52):
as a body and limbs formedaround the fleshy worm-like
thing that would serve as anervous center for its brain.
Sitting up, rising, they bowedfirst to Dot and then to Silas.
Bring him, he stated.
Matter-of-factly, and theylifted the unconscious boy and
started to carry him off wherethey would use him.

(15:13):
Dot hurried next to Silas, almost like a schoolgirl trying
to impress her crutch.
Did I do well, sir?
Satisfactory.
She frowned.
If he does indeed become a gate, will you give me what you
promised?
And what was that?
A life of my own! Silas found itfascinating how these husks

(15:36):
seemed to always yearn for areal existence.
A life for a mere puppet, athing.
It all depends on what yourmother Cassandra thinks.
Cassandra, she was what Jack isto the Sacred Dawn, the mother
of the Cadric Order, andliterally to all the husks.
Dot hung her head and followedalong.

(15:57):
She had played her part.
Would mother let her live?
Would she get Zack to raise onher own?
She looked at the boy beingcarried.
Deep down she had wanted to be amother to him, but her role was
to make him ready for becoming aliving gate.
A living gate for Ekmalock toreturn in.

unknown (16:17):
Uh-oh.

SPEAKER_00 (16:18):
Zack swallowed something and it wasn't gum.
It seems a seed has beenplanted, and Zack is about to
become.
Become what?
Well, that's something we'llhave to find out.
But first, we'll turn back theclock once more, as Warren not

(16:39):
only admires his coffee shop, but entertains another visitor.
As we look to get a betterpicture of how all this comes
together.
With chapter 5, Warren Stephen.
