Doug Ford's Controversial Energy Threat: A War Crime in the Making?

In this episode, the speaker criticizes Ontario Premier Doug Ford for his recent threats to cut off electricity to American homes as a retaliatory measure in the trade war. The speaker argues that Ford's actions could be considered a war crime under international law, drawing comparisons to Israel's free provision of electricity to Gaza. The episode highlights Ford's grandstanding and questions his leadership, suggesting that his tactics are more about political posturing than genuine economic strategy. The speaker also contrasts Canadian and American energy dependencies, emphasizing the potential repercussions of Ford's threats.

(00:00):
Did you realize a trade warcould have war crimes?

(00:03):
Well meet Doug Ford, the warcriminal.
In Canada.
Ontario's premier, Doug Ford hasdone something truly incredible.
He's out-Zelinsky'ed Zelinsky.
With zero self-awareness, he'sstanding in front of the cameras

(00:26):
fists clenched, promising tomake America feel the pain
Ontario Premier Doug Ford nowthreatening to shut off
electricity to American homesnear the border who rely on
Canadian power.
I.
We keep the lights on the 1.5million homes in manufacturing
in New York, in Michigan, and inMinnesota.
I will shut down the electricitygoing down to the US and I'm

(00:49):
telling you we will do it.
Over what?
Tariffs?
The same tariffs that Canada issupposedly against, but they're
matching them?
Except, here's the kicker.
Canada isn't just matchingtariffs.
They're going beyond slappingtariffs on US goods would be one
thing, but they're outrightbanning American alcohol too.

(01:11):
That's not economic retaliation.
That's economic temper tantrum.
This is the country thatpretends to value free trade,
the friendly people, the politepeople, the country that screams
when America talks aboutprotecting its people and
industries and now they'rebanning bourbon?
What if Canadians want to payhigher prices and still get

(01:34):
their Kentucky booze?
What happened to those Canadianvalues?
But the stupidity doesn't stopthere.
Ford has found the one exportCanada sends to the US that
isn't hit with tariffselectricity and decided that's
what he'll cut off.
Why would he do that?
Because electricity is anecessity.

(01:56):
We can't just decide to waituntil next year to buy it like
you can a new car or buy fromCosta Rica instead of Mexico
like with produce.
People have to buy electricitywhen it's needed, and that's
now.
Electricity to keep the lightson, to run the factories and
hospitals and to charge our EVs.

(02:16):
While we're doing that,Canadians are streaming south to
fill up their tanks withAmerican gasoline because guess
what?
It's cheaper in our free marketeconomy.
They love their governmentcontrolled system so much that
they buy our gas by the gallon, which they have to convert to
liters to clear customs inWindsor.
Just kidding.

(02:37):
But Ford's not threatening tocut that off, is he?
Because he knows Canadians wantcheap gas.
Energy flows both ways.
He's happy to shut it off whenit goes south, but will he dare
stop the flow going north?
And if he wants to play thisgame, let's talk about Line 5,
the pipeline that delivers crudeoil from Western Canada to
Ontario through Michigan andWisconsin.

(03:01):
The same pipeline thatMichigan's governor, Gretchen
Whitmer wants to shut down.
Should the US let her?
Ford's so eager to weaponizeenergy, maybe America should
take note.
Let's see how Ontario fares whenall the petro dollars dry up And
what is he retaliating against?
America cracking down onfentanyl, something that kills

(03:23):
22 American teens every singleweek?.
Something that just cost an ICEagent his life in Vermont.
Maybe Ford thinks he can justbrush that off.
Argue,"well, China kills moreteens than Canada does".
And that's not much of adefense.
That's more an admission ofguilt.

(03:44):
And speaking of guilt, this iswhere things take a dark turn
because we've seen this before.
The International Criminal Courtdeclared that cutting off
electricity to Gaza is a warcrime, even when Israel was
providing it for free to itsenemies.
So what does that make DougFord?

(04:06):
Israel was giving power away.
America is paying for it.
Ford's move is not justreckless.
It's an act of economic warfareBy the ICC's own logic, Ford
isn't just bluffing.
He's openly threatening a warcrime under international law.
Well, he is the premier.

(04:26):
That's a dictator, right?
We've got here yet anotherlittle man, figuratively
speaking, puffing his chest, standing in front of the
cameras, thinking he can go toeto toe with Trump.
He learned nothing fromZelensky.
Ukraine's leader, went home toKiev and got an earful from his

(04:48):
cabinet and from his wife.
And where is he now?
Losing ground by the day, begging for another meeting,
hoping for another fat check.
Ford should pay attentionbecause America has options.
America has resources, andAmerica doesn't lose these
fights.

(05:09):
A real leader wouldn't bestanding at a podium, chest out,
making drastic threats.
A dictator would do exactlythat.
But a real leader would be atthe table negotiating for the
best deal for his people ButFord isn't doing that because
this was never about trade, never about tariffs.
This is about politics, aboutgrandstanding, about the

(05:32):
illusion of power, and when thelights go out, he'll find out
just how little power heactually has.
