Hello, and welcome to the Tough Cover Radio Show. A
very special edition here. It is Saturday, September sixth, and folks,
we got football football, football, as they say on mostly
(02:11):
sports football. So obviously last week I said this is
a very very very very very very special edition. I
think I said that the last two weeks, and they
were because college football was back. But let me tell
you something. When we are cooking here at the Tough
Cover Radio Show and we get to do first hour
college and maybe some clean up on the Phillies, and
then second hour you jab on the rest of the NFL,
(02:34):
there's nothing like it. It sets up my show, makes
my life easier, and it's just a I think it's
the best product we present here at the Gambler. Yeah,
in my humble opinion, I really do believe when we're cooking,
this is the best thing we got. So let's talk
about it. Let's talk some football right here with me.
It's first time I've been here in the studio and
quite a bit. Always good to come in here, especially
(02:56):
during football season. We got my guy Sean Bernard right
here with me. Follow on Twitter at Shawn and scribernarch
one sewn how we don't do well?
Speaker 5 (03:03):
We got the season kicked off with the Philadelphia Eagles
victory as the first game on the season, which I
love there getting things out and matchup with the Cowboys
was not perfect, but got the job done and excited
to dive into a little spitgate. We got to talk
about a little bit the Cowboys, so I think looks
better than I expected, and I think a lot of
people there.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Got Jared to kind of chime in on that as well.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
In a full slate of action tomorrow, So it's gonna
be a nice I wouldn't say stress free Sunday because
we'll be living in the action getting in the mix
there as well, But not nice to not worry about
the Eagles for the first Sunday of football, Jared.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
We got Jared Montalto on the ones and twos over here. Jared,
how we doing pretty good?
Speaker 6 (03:37):
I mean, coming off with loss on Thursday, but we're
looking ahead. There's positive to take it on. I'm just
glare football is back.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
I'm so happy foroot balls back, and we'll talk about
the Eagles. We're gonna talk about the Eagles Cowboys game.
But Sean Brady talked about it yesterday. We've had a
lot of people on the station already talk about it.
I feel like a lot of the shows on the
station are maybe even a little bit more Eagles focused
in Philadelphia focus than mine is. So yeah, we got
a whole slate in week one to talk about, folks.
(04:06):
I have a bet on every single NFL game of
the slate. I am four and two at plus four
units to start out the year, went three and two.
On Thursday night, we hit Omrion Hampton by a half yard.
Last time we had it, then we didn't have it.
Then we had it again, thankfully, But so stay tuned
(04:27):
for that. I think we're gonna do that all in
the second hour at least after the first half hour,
because we got some college football to talk about, because
we got a slate here, and hey, am I gonna
lie to you? I don't lie to the people. I'm
not going to tell the people that we have a
fantastic college football slate and we have the best Week
two slate ever. But it's not that. But just because
(04:49):
we don't have Ohio State, Texas and LSU Clemson and
Notre Dame Miami and Week one and the sex appeal
of Week one and all these teams playing their first game, YadA, YadA, YadA,
there's there's money to be made. There are matchups to
break down. And the thing that I'm talking the most
about today and focusing the most on today is we're
(05:10):
gonna learn a lot. We're gonna watch, We're gonna learn
about a lot of these college football teams that maybe
are on the fringes of the top ten, maybe aren't
ranked yet, but there are there's some optimism around, and
we're we're gonna go down the list and talk about
all that NFL Second hour, College first Hour. We'll fit
in some Phillies as well. I didn't know celebrity guest
(05:32):
picker is Trey Young. I see that. I feel like
is that?
Speaker 5 (05:36):
I mean, I know he was great. He was awesome
in college.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
He was awesome. No, he was absolutely awesome. So it
was buddy there by the way. But you can't get
a football guy from Oklahoma. For the guest pickers, who
do you got? Com Peterson? That is a good one.
I don't know what he's up to these days. I
don't know if he's the guy you necessarily want to
talk to. But anyway, we'll get it back on track.
(05:59):
And I have have I have. Let me let me
count them up here. I love counting on radio. It's
great radio. I have six college football plays and then
I have about ten matchups that I do not have
a play in but I think are worth mentioning at least.
Then let's go with the games that I don't have
a play in first and kind of break those down
a little bit. But twelve o'clock probably maybe the biggest
(06:20):
game of the noon slate, maybe maybe the second biggest,
depending on rivalries or not. But twelve o'clock interesting matchup,
Illinois at Duke Illinois two and a half point favorite.
Luke Altmeyer a lot of buzz for the Illinois quarterback,
the number eleven team in the country, the Illinois fighting
a line. I don't think the Johnny casual out there
would know that, but you take a look at AP
(06:41):
top twenty five and they're they're sitting right there. It's
pretty pretty shocking stuff, and I think some people might
even have an issue with it. I kind of get
why they're there, but I don't know if I believe
in it long term. They are going to duke, and
there's there's a lot of there's a lot of hype
when it comes to Darien Menso at duke. He replaced
(07:02):
my guy Malik Murphy. Doesn't look so good in Oregon
State right now. But so maybe it was a duke situation.
Maybe that was a perfect setup for a quarterback and
Mensus steps in from Tulane and plays well. I would
lean with the ALIGNI there. That game's at noon on ESPN,
Baylor at SMU. SMU two and a half point favorite.
I was big on Baylor last week and sorry, Robertson
(07:24):
threw for what four hundred and thirty yards. The offense
scored a whole bunch of points, got stuffed in the
red zone a couple of times, but the problem with
Baylor is that defense doesn't look like it'd stop a nosebleed.
I'm worried about it. Jackson Arnold ran all over those
guys there, so and now you play week two, you're
going across the state to arrival in SMU and Kevin Jennings.
(07:45):
Whatever you want to say about him. Maybe he's not
the most polished quarterback. I don't necessarily expect him to
be an NFL guy. He can run around, he can
use his legs, and he watched Arnold use his legs
last week. I would lean with Smu there. I feel
like Baylor is kind of a sexy pick. There A
lot of people like a bounce back pick from Baylor.
I did not like what I saw from the defense. Also,
at noon Virginia at NC State, there's some excitement about CJ.
(08:08):
Bailey at NC State. No Brandon Walker big on CJ. Bailey.
That game is on ESBN two NC State minus three.
I would lean that way, and then I guess we'll
just go go through it by sleate. So at twelve o'clock,
my please, first half Pit minus twelve and a half
versus Central Michigan. That's a one unit play. It's on
espn U. Teams catching twenty plus points following an upset
(08:31):
win as double digit underdogs have gone thirty seven to
fifty one to one against the spread since two thousand
and five. That's not why I'm betting this, that's just
a fun stat. I think Pitt Eli Holstein, the receivers,
Desmond Reid. I think those guys are built to beat
up on bad teams at the very worst. I think
there's a chance that they can compete on a real
(08:52):
level in the ACC. But I think it starts here
and taking care of business against these bad teams. And
the other reason I'm going first half with Pitt here
instead of full game at minus twenty one and a half.
They play at West Virginia next week, big rivalry matchup.
I'm just a hint for next week's show. I will
love Pitt in that game. I'm out on West Virginia
pretty totally there, so I think Pitt wins that game.
(09:15):
But big rivalry matchup. I could see Pitt getting up early,
taking their foot off the gas a little bit there
in the second half. So give me Pitt first half
at minus twelve and a half and in the rivalry
matchup where big noon kickoff is give me Iowa plus
three and a half at Iowa State a little bit
of a hunch play. I know we're excited about Iowa State.
They're two and zero, won the big game in Ireland
against Kansas State, came home, avoided the letdown spot. Let's
(09:38):
not forget Iowa State lost the yards for play battle
against Kansas State in Ireland. They like this success rate.
They lost all that stuff in some ways, they got outplayed,
but hey, they came out ahead and they won the game.
A win is a win. But I don't know how
impressed I am, especially given how Kansas State looked last
week and looked horrible against the i forget who they played,
(09:59):
maybe North Dakota, South Dakota one of those teams, and
Gronowski and the Iowa offensive to horrible in week one
against a bad team. I'm just banking on the fact
that they were maybe keeping it vanilla, keeping it on
the ground before a big rivalry matchup here. The visitor
has won the Syhawk Trophy in each of the last
five matchups. Iowa's won the last six meetings on the
road and is four to one and one against the spread.
(10:19):
In those meetings hunch play here, but I'm going with
the Hawkeys gonna be Iowa plus three and a half.
Anything on the noonslate for you, Schaan.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
Bernard, Yeah, to jump in. I do like the under
of the Iowa and Iowa State game. I'm not buying
this buzz of Iowa's finally got a quarterback. This is
the same New year, same deal with Iowa that it
is going to be limp along and I think this
is just going to be a rock fight between these
two teams. I don't really see Iowa State putting in
much damage on this Iowa defense either, so I think
this is probably like a seventeen to ten type of game.
(10:48):
I like the under forty two and a half there
I'm not seeing or I'll put it this way. All
I've been told all week feels like get take Duke
over Illinois, and I'm just not sure that I see it.
It's a stayaway spot for me that I'm betting there,
or I'm kind of confused by how much love there
is for Duke.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
I'll just put it that way.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
The play that I did want to add to the mix,
I love Texas minus thirty six and a half. I
think they lay on the hammer against San Jose State.
I actually don't mind San Jose State. I think they're
moving in the right direction. As a program. There went
seven and six last year, second year of the former
Navy head coach that took over the program. There run
the option. Ken Butcher his last name sort of Hawaiian
twang to it. But guy knows what he's doing, and
(11:26):
I do think the organization's moving in the right direction.
I just think the arch Manning stuff has gotten significantly
blown out of proportion. That he faced the defending national
champions probably the best defense maybe in college football certainly
that he'll face all year. He did not look great,
There's no doubt about it. But this feels like the
perfect spot for me to just build up the confidence,
lay it on thick, and I don't think they take
the foot off the gas until that final whistle blows.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
Another part about that is obviously the talent on Ohio
State's probably the best talent defensively in the country, with
Cale Downs and the guys they have up front, the
guys they have in the secondary, the best secondary in
the country. I've heard a lot going into the year.
But you also have Matt Patricia, who is the defensive coordinator.
I'm not going to tell you he's an all time great,
but what I will tell you is there was no
(12:08):
tape on what he was going to do at the
college level before they stepped into that game. I bet
it was probably pretty hard to prepare for Matt Patricia,
and I saw a lot of videos and breakdowns of
he was throwing a lot of NFL concepts at Arch
and at Texas that they just don't get run a
lot in college, and a lot of the time the
defensive line strategy in college is just be faster than
(12:30):
your the offensive lineman or be stronger than the offensive lineman.
They were running a lot of stunts, a lot of
schoolhouse splitzes, a lot of random kind of things that
are used in the NFL, and people kind of have
diagnosed it and figured out how to deal with it
in the NFL. The college level, not so much. And
the other interesting thing is actually from Johnny Manzil that
I heard this, not who I would normally go to
for analysis, but he said, Matt Patricia has spent his
(12:54):
whole career, whether you like him or not, preparing for
Peyton Manning and Drew Brees and Patrick Mahone and all
these you know, elite quarterbacks over the last ten to
fifteen years. He probably it probably is like, you know,
taking candy from a baby a little bit, going down
to the next level and being a DC in college
against some of these college quarterbacks, where if your job
(13:17):
for all these years is to identify the two to
three things that make these really elite NFL quarterbacks uncomfortable
and unable to do the things they want to do,
you could probably do the same thing in college. You
could probably find seven or eight things in yeah, two
or three things. So I thought that was actually a
pretty good analysis from Johnny. And I think Ohio State's
defense is going to be the best in the country
all year long.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Yeah, no, I think that is true. And I think
it's like a combination of things. If like, you're absolutely
right that this is the most difficult matchup that's going
to face. It was also Arch's first time being thrown
directly to the fire there, and like having these expectations,
there's gonna be nerves there. And by the way, if
he ends up punching in seven on that final drive
and ties the game, the tune is completely different surrounding
the Arch manning experience there that did not happen. We
(13:57):
can't have revision as history. But nonetheless, like I think
that the level of concern has become a little bit
overblown for Arch.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Also, there was three big games last week, right, Two
of those losers went on the road and lost one
possession games. Yeah, that's Texas going to the national champion
and going to Columbus and losing in Columbus by a touchdown.
And then it's Notre Dame going to Miami, losing by
a field goal out there, playing horrible for forty minutes,
(14:26):
coming back tying the game with four minutes to go,
and then not being able to finish the job. But
I'm walking out of both Texas and Notre Dame's losses
being like, you know, as long as they take care
of business, they should be right in the mix. And
I'm not walking out of those games being like, oh,
these teams can't make the playoffs, and I'm not doing
that with this team either. And I said this last week.
(14:48):
The game I was willing to overreact on the most
was LSU Clemson because if LSU showed up there, I
was lower on Clemson the most and ls showed up
and got dominated. I would have said, man, maybe I'm
putting the cart before the horse on LSU. Maybe I'm
overrating l s U. But with Clemson they lost at home.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
Yeah, and that Smyer looked awesome. By the way, Myers great.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Yeah, he's a coach's son, quarterback, really smart, changing plays
before the before the snap, and they got unlucky even
on a couple of things that they should have put
up more points.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
He might be my number one individual stock riser from
week one was.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
I think you can book he's a saint next year
his dad's.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
That's a good point. Yeah, and then they'll have their
their choice for sure.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
But no, I'm in on us. I'm on the nuts bus.
I'm glad to welcome you on. I think he's gonna
win the Heisman this year. I've said that. So by
the way, sleep well, get out. Never mind. Okay, I'll
get to something I was going to say about a
different sleeper Heisman candidate. But is that fair?
Speaker 5 (15:49):
No?
Speaker 4 (15:50):
Is that fair to say? Am I doing confirmation bias
because I thought Texas and Notre Dame were going to
be really good? I'm I'm kind of willing to let
them play it out. Also with Texas, the same reasons
we'd all just laid out With Notre Dame. We saw
them lose in Northern Illinois last year and can go
on an incredible run. Marcus, I kind of trust him
at this point. Now. The big thing with Notre Dame
(16:11):
to me and with the ties of their season together,
is gotta be Texas and m now next week. Yeah,
and that's a tough matchup. You'll be favored in the game.
It's in South Bend, no excuses. You can't lose that
game now, especially. I think it's gonna be a really
tough one. I'm not betting Notre Dame in that game.
But if as long as you win that game, they'll
be fine. I do really believe that Texas, they'll be fine.
(16:33):
I truly believe that. Am I am I overreacting to
the Clemson loss. No, I don't think so at all.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
To be honest, and just on the Notre Dame point,
real quick, that was not a loss that I feel
bad about from Notre Dame's perspective, If anything, like, I
was comforted and fined me up here. In the Marcus
Freeman speech following the game too. It's like that is
a head coach right there. That dude knows what he's doing.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
I like the CJ Moxy in his first game as
a starter down stretch, showing some real guts. I feel
like to fight back down seventeen, tie the game four
minutes to go. It shows guts to me.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Yeah, definitely, I think Notre Dame nothing to be panicked
about there. As far as like the Clemson reaction, I
kind of I think we both entered the season and you,
especially as a little bit lower than the consensus on it.
I don't quite see the vision with Clubnick. I don't
think he's like that level of guy. I think that
they they're a good team. They're going to be in
the mix there. But it more of was like confirming
what I think we thought entering the season than anything else.
(17:26):
He looked like the better team, like from start to
finishing that and I think the gap in quarterback play
was pretty significant to me.
Speaker 6 (17:31):
Anything on the noonslate for you, Jared, I would just
say Penn State forty one and a half. No One
had a late late game cover last week, which was
kind of upsetting. I didn't bet it. I was thinking
about it, Thank god I didn't. But this week I
think they get it done and cover that forty one
and a half. And like you said, for Texas, I
think they come out and kind of dominate. Arch Manning
shows off his arm on his legs and just kind
(17:54):
of gets people back on the train for him.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
You know, hopeful Heisman down the line this season. But
that's all I got for the twelve o'clock. Big numbers
scare me. I like both of where you're at, though.
I like the Penn State play and I had Texas
when it opened at thirty two and a half or
thirty one and a half on my card. It's skyrockets
for all the reasons we're thinking, and I think for
the right reasons. Yeah. But speaking of me not liking
big numbers, Oregon minus twenty seven versus Oklahoma State that
(18:20):
numbers at twenty eight now, actually I got it a
little bit early, but I still like it at twenty
twenty eight and a half. I think, by the way,
only a one unit play for me, though, that'll be
a theme I have pretty much universally this week. I'm
going with one unit plays. I only have a couple
plays on college that I love. I don't really even
have a single play in the NFL that I'd say
I love this week, so a lot of one unit plays.
(18:42):
I'm kind of spreading it across the board a little bit.
But Oregon minus twenty seven against Oklahoma State. The Ducks
ran one of the best offenses in the country in
Week one FCS opponent, but they won fifty nine thirteen
twenty seven and a half point favorite covered easily on
that spread. A good FCS team, I will say that
they played. It was nearly a perp. Doubting from the
former five star quarterback Dante Moore, who completed eighteen to
(19:03):
twenty three three touchdowns sleeper heisman. Okay Moore, I've been
saying that I like that he sat the whole year
last year behind Gabriel. He was a five star, went
to UCLA, played under Chip first year as a freshman.
Didn't go that well as a freshman at UCLA with
a bad team around him. I think the team went
like six and six even after he got benched. Then
(19:23):
he went to Oregon, sat for a year. He could
have went a lot of places last year and started
he was a five star. He only played one year.
He could have went to half the country and started.
He went to Oregon and said, you know what, I'll
wait my time and I'll be the starter next year.
I like it. I liked how he looked. I'm big
on Dante, more talented kid and perfect place to go.
Look at I mean, look at bo there, look at
(19:44):
look at Herbert, Dylan Gaberl look at Herbert. It's what
they've been able to do the last five to ten
years with quarterbacks is fantastic. So and then you look
at the other side of the ball. The Polks are
dealing with a quarterback turnover, their starter suffering an injury.
They have their backup. They had a bad SCS team
that they played last week, and they only put up
twenty seven points. The replacement at quarterback Flores true freshman.
(20:08):
He only had one hundred and thirty six yards, didn't
have a touchdown, got sacked twice. And not only that,
at the running game was terrible last week. Killed Hicks
had twenty one carries for fifty six yards two point
seven yards per carry. Oklahoma States lost nine straight games
against the FBS opponents Gundy. Also may have you heard
about the Gundy landing beef A little bit here, I
(20:28):
have not. Mike Gundy made some really dumb comments about,
you know, Phil Knight buying players and Oregans spent I
think he said, Oregon spent forty million on their team
this year and seven million on their offensive line. We've
spent seven million on our whole team the last three
years combined. And Dan Lanning someone asked them, you know,
(20:49):
sounds like there's a money disparity, and he said, sounds
like there's a caring disparity. He said, if you want
to be a top ten team in college football, you
better be invested in winning. We spend to win. Some
people save money to have an excuse for why they
don't win. I can't speak on their situation. I have
no idea what they got in their pockets over there.
(21:09):
I don't think Dan Lanning's happy. No, that sounds like
some fighting words. Yeah, I mean, if you remember he
got up set Colorado was getting clicks a couple of
years ago. I think it takes very little for Dan
Lanning to get fired up and want to beat a
team by.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
Forty By the way, I think that's a good trade.
I think that's a good trade. Coach, you should I
love Dan Linning. Yeah, dig for whatever bulletin board information
you can find. If it's a tweet, if it's a comet,
whatever the case may be. If that fires you up,
if you can inject that type of energy into your squad,
that is a good thing.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
So yeah, shout out to Dan Lanning. I respect that
he's the man. And finally, my best bet, not just
of college football, my best bet of the weekend Ole
Miss minus eight and a half out of Kentucky. I
think you could get that still at eight and a half,
might be nine and a half elsewhere. But Kentucky beat
ole Miss last year in Oxford as a massive underdog,
and that was the loss that kept Lanekiffin and ole
(21:56):
Miss from their first college football playoff. If you don't
think Lane has spent the last year thinking and harping
on beating Kentucky in their house and making them pay
for what they did to them, I don't think you
know Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin loves loves a good beat down.
And I can't believe I didn't write this down. Ryan
(22:18):
Coyle had a great Ole Miss that Lane Kiffin is
nine four and two against the spread at ole Miss
as a road favorite. So when Lane Kiffin is the
better team. He usually takes care of business. I mean,
he can take care of business. He doesn't mind putting
up a fifty burger and embarrassing. Yeah. So Lane is
someone who I think is just like James Franklin, acutely
(22:41):
aware of the spread. I think he's aware of the spot.
I think Dan Lanning is too to another degree as well.
I think that's I don't mind it at all. You
look at this and I'm a little bit lower on
Ole miss the consensus this year, but this is just
a this is a revenge spot to me. This is
everything to do about revenge, everything to do about last year.
The sophomore of Simmons, I know, Beef and a lot
of others really really high on him. Three for three
(23:03):
hundred and forty one yards in the season opener. He
can absolutely do it again. This time. Kentucky led up
sixteen points to Toledo, which was one of the worst
offenses in the country last year in Kentucky barely won
that game against Toledo. I expect an absolute beat down
forty five to ten, forty five fourteen, and we're getting
minus eight and a half. I get it. It's a
rat trap. I'm saying, Wow, that cheese looks tasty. I'll
(23:26):
walk into it. And I don't know who left this
cheese right here. I don't know why they left it
out on this platter For me, I'm gonna sit right
here and eat the cheese. I wonder what will happen
to me. But Old Miss minus eight and a half,
it's my best bet of the weekend. Anything on the
three point thirty slate for you.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Guys, Yeah, I'll throw a couple more real quick, and
I will also know that that's another matchup that I
feel like I've heard more of the buzz going the
oppos direction against Old Miss there. I'm more asso see
your way, and I think it like if we're anything,
we're talking about the cheese and the trap there that
maybe that plays in the favor of Old Miss can
walk in and take care of business.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
There a couple other matchups af there out there.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
I like Kansas on the money line right from MISSOI
Daniels is a bad man, dude. I think that's gonna
be a blast of a game. It's five and a
half on the spread. I can tell by your reaction
you're not on the same page.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
No, I would lean Kansas, but Jalen Daniels has has
burned me too many times. Yeah, he's he looks so
good sometimes and then he'll he tweaks something or he
can't complete a path. He has really high highs and
really low lows. Yeah, I'm scared by Kansas.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
Yeah, all completely fair. I liked what I saw from
the last week that looked like the good Jalen Daniels.
He finished last season incredibly strong, and I'm hoping that
that momentum continues to carry. I'm riding with him today.
If he burns me, it will be noted moving forward,
for sure. I also will just quick shout out Temple
University twenty eight and a half point favorites over Howard today.
I wasn't sure I would see a day where Temple
(24:45):
would ever be twenty eight point favorites over anybody, so
I did want to give them a little love coming
off win.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
Casey Keeler turning things down.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
Home next week, right, Yeah, yeah, so turn things around
a little bit over there in Philly. I'm also riding
with University of Delaware plus twenty three and a half
against Colorado. Don't love the cadence Salters experiment for Colorado
to this point.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
I don't think the arm is quite ready.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
The offense is so drastically different from what we saw
with Shador last year and Delaware. I get that they're
making the leap, just their second ever FBS game here,
they won last week. They look good. That's a well
established program. I think twenty three and a half is
just too many. I don't see Colorado capable of like
laying the hammer in a way that it's a blowout.
I don't think they're quite live dogs, but I think
this finishes like maybe a ten point game, fourteen point
(25:29):
game kind of.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
I'll take the twenty three and a half. I like
Salter a lot. I think it's about I don't think
Deon's ever been a good coach. I think he had
a really good quarterback and Travis Hunter Heisman. Yeah, I
don't think Deon's a good football coach. That's a conversation
for another day. I like Salter.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
I hope better collegiate football coach Bill Belichick or Dan
sand Sanders. Geeesh.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
I mean that was what we all expected, right, Like
who bet on UNC in that game?
Speaker 3 (25:55):
Like?
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I mean I had TCU, I wish I hammered it.
I actually like only put a unit on it because
I was like, this is so obvious, Like I actually
scared myself that it was three and a half. And
I never do that really. I don't do like the oh,
everybody's doing one thing, I'm gonna bet the other, even
though I'm doing it with Oliowall, but I rarely do that.
At four o'clock. By the way, West Virginia minus three
and a half at Ohio. Interesting for a MAC team
(26:19):
to be playing a power four team where they spread
that low. Rich Rod has brought like the entire Jacksonville
State team over to West Virginia, so it's really like
an SCS team in some ways playing against Ohio. I
will say Parker Navarro quarterback who has been at Iowa,
Ohio for a little bit now, a good quarterback. It's
kind of fun too, Yeah, very fun watch. So I
would actually lean Ohio in that game, but I'm not
(26:40):
betting it.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Yeah, don't have a feel. If you pin me down
right now, I probably would go Ohio as well. Parker
Navarro is very fun, so I love that shot. There
Nothing too much more than the four o'clock slate for.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
Me USF at Florida minus eighteen and a half. That's
I don't have a lean at all. That's a USF
has been floated as a G five playoff team a
lot like they're probably one of the fever. If we're
picking boys, especially Boise lost UNLV struggling. I think there's
another team that was supposed to be in that mix
that lost the game. I can't remember who right now.
(27:10):
So USF looked they beat Bois, right, Yeah, USF beat Boise,
So a lot of hype for them as a potential
playoff team. You're an eighteen and a half point favorite
against early eighteen and a half point dog against Florida.
You want to be a potential G five playoff team,
you got to show up here and not get blown out.
And Florida, conversely, you want me to take you seriously
going into SEC play, show up here and beat the
(27:31):
hell out a little brother, don't don't mess around. I
get USS pretty good Byron Brown's pretty good. But if
you're Florida and you want me to take you seriously
as a potential playoff team, which I don't and I don't,
so you need to come out and blow them out.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
Here. Yeah, another one. I wanted to throw in the
slate real quick. Navy the Midshipman minus twenty one over UAB.
I know, backing any sort of armed forces team on
a twenty one point spread seams intimidating. UAB cannot stop
the run whatsoever. That they played Alabamas last week, they
gave up two hundred and seventy three yards of rushing
rushing yards allowed on them.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
That's all Navy's gonna do that. They're gonna run the option.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
They got a ton of guys that can carry the
football and looks really good last week.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
So I'm laying the twenty one. I'm not getting intimidated
by the number. I like it.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Let's move on to anything over there for the three
thirty slate yard.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
All I want to mention is, I don't know if
you saw the interview with the Grambling States head coach
about he pretty much was asked about Ohio State them
come in, them playing each other, and he pretty much
just said, we know what it's gonna be and essentially
gave his team no hope that they're going to be
able to do anything in this game. The lines of
fifty four and a half. I mean that's a huge,
(28:41):
huge line and after you know, Ohigo, States offense didn't
get too much going last week with only fourteen points.
I mean they want to be a bad bet, I guess.
But yeah, if Grambling their head coach has no hope,
I mean, their team not gonna have any hope either.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Son. Who was what was the team that was celebrating
in an upset last week? Week that the player posted
in the locker room when you ruin a bunch of
people's parlays or something like State?
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Yeah, yeah, wild wild? Were they playing Army or something?
Speaker 5 (29:12):
I'm gonna do that. I just saw the post, which
made me laugh. But pretty crazy move all around.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Yeah, I think I think they were playing Army.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
Army.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yeah, ye, double ot me either. I still got I
still got a little left from Yeah, but for the
night's late, for the games that I I don't have
a bet on seven o'clock. We just talked about it,
but Belichick U n C at Charlotte Charlotte was horrible
last week. If UNC can't at least win by double
digits here, gonna be a tough season for Jordan. Yeah,
(29:44):
I think that's the direction.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
It's trending to be perfectly honest that I that was
a disaster.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Like, I think we're under selling how much of a
disaster that was.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
From the pomp and circumstance, the build up to having
like a kid's background at your press conference is the.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Way the Belichick back.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
Yeah, yeah, I can't believe that this is what Bill
Belichick has become. Like there was a significant part of
me watching that game that just went like, why are
you doing this?
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Man?
Speaker 5 (30:06):
Like, you're Bill Belichick. You've done everything in the world
when it comes to football. You've accomplished everything humanly possible
there And ultimately he's, you know, trying to coach college
football in his seventy years old while you know, dating Jordan.
So it's a strange situation. I don't really see it
fixing itself or trending better. There's a part of me
that feels almost sympathetic and bad for Belichick, even though
(30:27):
he fully put himself in the spot.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
I feel weird about it too, Yeah, full full admittance,
I feel weird about it. Let's take a break and
on the other side, we'll finish this out. We'll talk
some college football, we'll job on the Phillies from last night.
In the last couple days, good week, good bad for
the Phils. So we'll talk about all that on the
other side back after this.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
The Gambler, Phillies Home for all things sports gambling.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
Welcome back to the tough cover radio show right here
on Fox Sports The Gambler from eleven to one, finishing
up the first hour talking all things college football Phillies.
But that just came on, so I have to talk
about it last weekend or I guess not. I'm lying.
This Monday, it was Labor Day.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
I saw Oasis at MetLife at the Giants Jets Stadium.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Pretty dope. The best concert I've ever seen in my life.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
I know that's like cliche to say, like every concert
you see probably walk out feeling that way a little bit,
but no, it it was special. Seventeen years they were
broken up and they're only doing five American dates, so
getting in was hard. I know, the tickets in Chicago,
like a thousand tickets in La are crazy. We got
lucky with some tickets going down early, but yeah, it
(31:55):
was unbelievable and funny enough. Jared just played a blank
song bringing us back from break Oasis and Blank are
very much easily my top two bands of all time
and probably my two favorite concerts I've ever seen. So
I saw Oasis at MetLife. I saw Blink last year
(32:16):
at at the West Fergus or.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
The Stinity Mobile Center. I should say X, the X,
the Sixers. I do like the X as a as
a name there. The X is good, The X is good.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Yeah, but I had had to give a shout out.
Those are my two absolute favorite bands of all time.
So let's get back to sports. Let's talk some sports here,
and let's let's continue where we were. I was about
to talk about the rest of the nights. Late we
talked about Belichick going to Charlotte to play that games.
Weird Carolina is playing that game at Charlotte. That's really weird.
(32:49):
But at seven thirty Boston College at Michigan State. Michigan
State let me down bad last week with a late
non cover on a pick six when they were up
twenty three and they I minus twenty one and a half.
They covered from or minus twenty and a half. I
should say they were up twenty one nothing five minutes
into the game and they did not score at all. Again,
(33:09):
like he scored one more field goal or whatever it was.
That maybe a safety, I think, and they end up
winning only by sixteen. Disaster class I'll say it though,
I'm tempted again. I'm tempted to at Michigan State minus
three and a half against Boston College, I'm not doing it.
Though they screwed me too bad last week. I'm not
gonna go near it. The game's on NBC. By the way,
pretty shocking. Arizona State minus six and a half at
(33:30):
Mississippi State. Kenny Dillingham, who I love. Kenny Dillingham's awesome.
One of my if I was like, if I had
a big job available, Yeah, absolutely, one of my first calls.
I'm skeptically leave those from Tempe. It might be like
a situation where Arizona State actually found like the perfect
coach and he might not leave, but money talks. Yeah,
we'll find out one day. They do have a lot
(33:51):
of alumni though, Arizona State, so they might be able
to keep him on board. I heard someone that they
mentioned their own college game day. A lot of these
Big twelve coaches are want Even Dionne whined a little
bit about teams overspending them and how much money certain
teams are spending and how they don't have that money?
You know who wasn't talking about that? Who's that county
dilling here in Arizona State, I think they probably have
plenty of money, especially coming off of a playoff berth
(34:13):
out of nowhere. I think some money, some money is
being infused into that program. But I think I leave
Mississippi State a little bit here to cover the six
and a half. Make this a close game. Arizona State
is they won a lot of close games last year,
so they're not a team that made the playoff, but
they're not a team that won a ton of blowouts.
(34:35):
So I'm going to say I think Michigan or I
think Mississippi State has a chance to keep it close,
if not even maybe even win the game. So close
game I expect there at eight o'clock. This is an
ugly one. Ucla at u n LV UNLV was my
projected G five playoff team before the year. Week one,
they looked horrible. I think they looked a little bit
better last week, but they are too and zero. They
(34:57):
play Ucla, who looked horrible.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
Nico man Nico.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
This is a true test. Whoever loses this game dreadful
and UNLV. It's Dan Mullen's first year. It's a G
five team. If you lose the game, no one's gonna
really care. Let's be honest. Do you see LA loses
this game, Sean Foster deserves to be fired immediately.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Yeah, I'm out, and I think that's how it goes.
I think UNLV gets the win here that I think
Nico looked that bad. I think U c l A
look that bad. I'm out on Nico completely, I and
bordering on like he might not be like a you know,
power five starting caliber quarterback.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
You see all these terrible situation I think he was
one last year he yes, and no like he went
through straight. Yeah. I was encouraged he certainly.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
I was far more impressed than he obviously had way
better weapons and just you know a situation at Tennessee.
He fumbled that entire situation. I think I just entirely
hate the guy for how all that went down. To
be perfectly honest, there so, maybe I'm just enjoying rooting
against them, but it was fun to root against him
last week. I'm gonna do the same this week.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Today. I like it. Oklahoma minus four and a half.
We're back to my plays now. So Oklahoma minus four
and a half against Michigan, that's to two and a half.
Or actually it's a three unit play for me. Now,
these teams have only played once and it was in
nineteen seventy six. I thought that it was shocking Oklahoma
and Michigan. He just thought that they would have played
more recently than that. But at Oklahoma, Brent Venables eleven
(36:20):
and five against the spread as a home favorite. Sooners
are fifteen and four outright in Norman under Venables, so
even though he struggled a little bit at Oklahoma, has
usually gotten the job done at home, even last year
against Alabama as a big underdog there. But Brent Venables
led defenses have been especially strong against inside zone since
the start of last season, which Mischigan. Michigan runs almost
(36:41):
primarily inside zone. Michigan's best linebacker out for the first
half after an ejection last week, and the second half
their best safety is still recovering from a torn acl
They've lost. They lost three top thirteen picks to the
draft last year, five Day one or Day two picks,
and seven players total to the NFL. Mason Colston Loveland,
Kenneth Grant, Will Johnson, Josiah Stewart. Four of those five
(37:04):
guys on the defensive side of the ball, Colston Loveland
tight end. All those guys were important on the twenty
ten stud zero talk. Most of those guys. Three of
those guys went in the top thirteen. Yeah yeah, and
even Will Johnson if it weren't for medical stuff. Yeah,
I had him as my number three guy in the
whole draft. So I loved Will Johnson. Josiah Stewart was
even a guy who a lot of people really liked,
(37:25):
not to mention in twenty twenty two, in the year before,
they lost eight Day one or two picks in twenty
twenty three after the title that are actually technically would
be twenty twenty four draft after the title. So they've
lost thirteen top one hundred picks over the last two years.
Ken Michigan in the post Tarball era, recover from that,
especially on defense when your best linebackers out for half
this game and your best safety has a torny acl.
(37:48):
I think Oklahoma wins in a route here. The class
we've gotten here, I've gotten more and more confident. I
think Mattier is going to throw it all over them.
I think Michigan's going to struggle to run the ball,
struggle to do anything. And I think we're freaking out
of a little too early about Bryce Underwood. That's what
I was gonna bring up, Rose. I'm hearing for Bryce Underwood.
I get it, he's a big prospect Tom.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
Brady and Randall Cunningham, Tom Oknuck's against non high schoolers.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
But let's see how he does against the SEC team.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
Yeah, that's the biggest thing I'm watching for is I'm
really intrigued to see what Bryce Underwood looks like against
a real college football program, like a top tier ranked
team like Oklahoma. That's the biggest storyline. I'm curious if
John Mattier has the minus five and a half himself
either for Oklahoma there, but would love to see those
in the slips there. I'm open minded about Underwood, though,
I think there is a chance that this dude.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
There's definitely a chance. Yeah, I'm just surprised at the
way it's like, Oh, he's just one of the best quarters,
Like the way I just thought I was listened to
the game day coming in. I've listened to all the
pods this week, I think there's a little you know,
he put up like thirty one on New Mexico, Like, yeah,
I think we need to pump the brakes until maybe
he comes out in pay today night. Maybe he's amazing
tonight on the road in Norman in his second start
(39:00):
in college. I'm skeptical because even if I'm not, I'm everybody.
I'm not a Venables guy. I think Oklahoma stinks for
the most part. I think they're going seven games, but
this is an SEC defense. They were one of the
best defenses in the SEC last year. And this is
a Michigan team that struggled to compete last year with
all those NFL guys, And I understand they didn't have
a quarterback, but I think the rest of the roster
(39:22):
has gotten I guess I don't. I'm trying to think
of the way to word this. If we want to
say the improvement from last year to Underwood a quarterback,
I think it was just as much of a decline
for the rest of the roster from last year to
this year. So I still think Michigan is the same
seven or eightish win team they were last year. And
Joe Tansey, for instance, really big on Michigan in this
(39:46):
game and this whole thing. Oh, John Mittier can't play
against top notch opponents price underwood Ken like rest was
in high school nine months ago. Yeah, what are we
talking about? Like John Mattier scored thirty seven points on
Texas Tech last year, he scored thirty four points on
Washington He put up twenty four against Boise State. Like
he played some real opponents last year. It's not like
(40:07):
he played only bad teams at Washington State. I love
Oklahoma State or Oklham State. I'm o s I love
Oklahoma today. And another thing, Pete, I have to find
this clip. But Pete Damil, he gave a good he
had a good joke. But jayde Not was a California
running back, really good running back at cal High, one
(40:28):
of the best transfer running backs, and he went to Oklahoma.
People were surprised about it because Oklahoma has some young
guys that are really exciting at running back. But he
was supposed to be the starter. Last week, was super limited,
had one carry for negative three yards. He was limited
with a shoulder injury. And Pete Damil said, ottt og
o Jaden is good to go, And I was like
(40:51):
Pete Hamill. We're doing Chapel Road his bag. Yeah, I
was pretty impressed by that. Pete Camill. By the way,
whatever we want to say, that's a banger, it's a
good it's a great wedding. By the way, you got
a wedding coming up. Schan Bernard put Hot to Go
on the playlist. I don't think I have any saying
it not being on that. I can't lie. So I
was someone who the only thing I cared about at
(41:12):
my wedding was the playlist. Okay, I made a song.
I made a must play playlist. I think it was
thirty to forty songs something in that list, and that
probably gave probably only five to ten songs to the
DJ to really play around with outside of that, and
I think I yelled at him for one of them.
But I gave a very specific playlist, and Schaumbernard was
at my wedding. I think you can attest to the
way that we had the dance, we had the dance
(41:33):
floor going the whole way. Hot to Go would be
on the list of songs that I did not want
to put on the list and was convinced to, and
it was they were correct. The women. The women were correct,
a good, good wedding song. But all that to say,
Jade knots back for Oklahoma, and I expect them to
go to him. I think they probably didn't use him
(41:54):
last week, knowing that this matchup was on deck for
next week, and of course next week against Temple, Big Owerhouse,
big matchup against the Cherry and White for the boomer
Sooners fight, give me the Boomerer centers. And finally you
haven't do you have it on your car a Sean.
Speaker 5 (42:11):
Bernard, We're going to Florida State here, no, no where
were we going.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
I know you're you're cheating on your old quarterback name. No,
they're not playing this week. You're cheating on your old
quarterback with Thomas Castillanos. There's a guy who applied for
a waiver so he could get another year in college.
And his name is Diego Pavia Ah my guy, and
he's going to Blacksburg today and he's gonna beat them again.
(42:37):
Beat them in Nashville last year. He's going to Blacksburg
and he's getting the job done for Vandy again today.
Virginia Tech head coach Bozo Brent Prye as I'm calling
him is just four and eleven against the spread against
non conference opponents since taking the reins in twenty twenty two.
Did not cover last week as a seven and a
half point underdog against South Carolina. Kyen drones did not
(42:59):
look like in fifteen for thirty three, I think, but
Brent Prie sixteen and twenty two at Virginia Tech once
proud Virginia Tech, well, I mean the Hokies, we Virginia.
I actually saw this clip. I was looking up stuff
on Brent Priye, and there's people the Virginia Tech fans
hate him. They won him, They won his head on
a stick, so they want him gone. And there was
(43:21):
a clip of him when he first got there saying
we were Clemson before Clemson, which is true. Virginia Tech
was that the class of the ACC with Michael Vick
and then Marcus Vick and like that era of the
early two thousand when I grew up on I loved
playing with Virginia Tech on on video games. They always
had a fast quarterback at a fast running back. They're
always a fun team. They were once great in the
(43:42):
ACC ten and thirteen in Brent Prize tenure in the
ACC one and twelve in one score games under Brent Priye.
Oh in seven in in non conference power for games.
He made it. They got another kid to make it unbelievable.
That was good for him. They gotta start making it harder. Yeah,
but oh and seven against non conference Power four teams,
(44:03):
ten and twenty total against Power four teams in general
under Brent Prie at Virginia Tech. So that means six
of his sixteen wins are against FCS opponents at Virginia Tech.
That's unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (44:16):
That is I feel very bad. I forgot about my boy,
Diego Pavia right now. I've been blinded by my Thomas
Coslanos love. I got a ride with support. Of course,
I'm in with Bandy. Let's do it.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
This is a once proud program, like I said, needs
to be saved, and maybe part of that saving is
Diego Pavia sticking the knife in the chest of Bozo
Brent Prae getting him fired early in part due to
this loss. In addition to Pavia, Bandy also returns its
top running back, it's top receiver and a stud tight
and Eli Stowers NFL guy by the way, going to
(44:45):
be an NFL pick. Vanderbilt has the pieces to be
a top twenty offense nationally in the country in my
opinion and in the opinion of a lot of the
pundits out there. And they look great last week. I
know they played Charleston Stuthern, but you put up forty
five points, you only give up three in your job.
So Virginia Tech also returns home with a day lass
of rest. They played on Sunday. Pavia and Vandy played
(45:06):
on Saturday against a bad opponent. Virginia Tech played against
South Carolina. I just think this is an obvious, obvious
Vanderbilt spot, and I know that the rebuttal would be
Luxburg's a tough place to play, understand man, I can't
imagine Virginia Tech is as fired up fan base wise
right now, zero and one after your quarterback, who you've
(45:27):
had to get excited for four straight years let you
down again in a big spot out South Carolina. Give
me Vandy plus two and a half. I like them
probably my third favorite player.
Speaker 5 (45:36):
Of the day.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
Yeah, I'm in on that.
Speaker 5 (45:38):
And I will say one of my best friends is
a Virginia Tech grad. Diehard all in quite frustrated at
the moment. So I think the tensions are starting to
rise down there a little bit.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
He was a Penn State guy, right. I think he
was the Penn State d C before he got hired
to Virginia Tech. I could be wrong there, but I'm
pretty sure that's where he came from. Jared, anything, any
games that we talked on that you have a take on,
or any any other night games that you got, I
have no plays myself.
Speaker 6 (46:03):
I would say Oklahoma if I had to pick one,
though I agree I think Oklahoma wins this pretty easy.
As a Penn State fan, not a big Michigan fan
at all, so.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
As a Notre Dame fan, neither of I So.
Speaker 6 (46:15):
I would definitely pick Oklahoma in that game. But I
got nothing else on the college football sleep.
Speaker 4 (46:19):
Trey Young going with the dookies, by the way on
college game Day. Look at that. But let's keep it
rolling real quick before we go, take a break at
the Philadelphia fight in Phillies playing today, and actually I've
got three MLB play three MLB plays today on the
card today, and they're on the card four ten. My
favorite Phillies. My favorite baseball player today is Phillies minus
one and a half. At the Marlins, Marlins roster struggles
(46:40):
against former Marlin Jezus Lozardo. If you look at some
of the DVP numbers, Phillies roster crushes, Sandy Alkatara, Yeah,
Bryce Schwarber, Trey Boom, JT, Sosa. They all hit like
three hundred or better against them with like high slug
gang hyo. But feel like a couple of them. I
think Bryce has two homers against them. I think j
T is two homers against him. I think Trey might
(47:02):
have two homers against them as well. So the whole
MLB smoking sandy right now anyway, with an era of
five point sixty six smoking on that Sandy pack. That's
a funny. That's a funny way to phrase it. But
if you're looking for Phillies props, maybe I would take
a look at those guys Brobbly, Schwarverer, Trey, Boom, JT.
If so this is in the lineup, maybe him So
Phillies minus one and a half plus money. I think
(47:23):
that's a treat today, as long as we get good Haesus,
which is what we've been getting lately. I love the
emotion that Hazus is showing on the on the mound lately,
so I think he's using it to his benefits. Yeah,
the minor league. The one thing I'll say to his
benefit or I guess to his detriment for this bet
is he's been way better at home than on the road.
(47:43):
So this is on the road, but to in Miami.
I don't think I worry too much about it. Six
point forty Brewers minus one and a half at the
Pirates for one unit plus one fifteen. Pirates really struggle
against Brandon Woodruff. Brewers hit Mitch Keller really well, and
the Brewers are a lot better than the Pirates. To
keep it simple, stupid. Another keep it simple stupid. Eight
ten Red Sox money line at Arizona against the Diamondbacks
for one unit. The most underrated season maybe in the
(48:06):
entire MLB this year is Lucas Giolito, who has a
three three eight ERA to Brandon Fott's five to three
three ERA. Lucasilito is ten and two for the Red
Sox with a three three eight EARRA. I just added
him in my fantasy league. The stream is starter for
my fantasy playoff matchup in Fantasy Baseball. I just said
fantasy way too many times there, But I think how
(48:27):
is he on the waiver wire. How am I able
to get a guy who's ten and two with a
three three eighty arra. I get it doesn't strike that
many guys out, But what a season that he's got
off the scrap heat for Boston. There people gave up
on Lucas Gioledo. I think he might have might get
himself a nice little contract next year somewhere now that
he helped himself out. Can't believe they're only minus one
to wait Arizona was horrible. Give me I think it
should be like minus one fifty. Give me the Red
(48:49):
Sox on the money line there so, and then back
to the Phillies. Phillies eighty two and fifty nine.
Speaker 5 (48:55):
What are we did?
Speaker 4 (48:57):
I didn't check if the Dodgers lost us last night.
Four up on the Dodgers. That is huge. Yea four
and a half back of Milwaukee for the one seed.
I don't care about the one seed. Just give me
a top two seed. Agreed, I do not care about
the one seed. But just a buye. Just give me
a buye. And we're officially four up on the Dodgers,
six up on the Padres, who are two back of
(49:17):
the Dodgers. We don't have to worry about the Cubs
because they're five and a half back of Milwaukee. Let
me just tell you, if the Cubs catch Milwaukee, that's
a good thing for us. I think that would overall
be a good thing. So they look dead though, man,
the Cubs. Yeah, you know what, I think it's unfair.
I think people are being unfair to the Cubs. They're
game back of us. Yeah, it's just that they're in
that division. So we look at the standings and it's, oh,
they're five and a half back on Milwaukee, Milwaukee's best
(49:39):
record in baseball. Like they were, I think they'd be
winning any other division. Maybe Toronto would be ahead of
them any other division besides us in Toronto, like they'd
be winning half the divisions.
Speaker 5 (49:48):
I guess the vibes fell off more so than anything. Yeah,
Pa has been bad mounts back. He's just got banged
up a little bit, Yeah he has. I just I
feel like more often than not lately when I flip
on the Cubs game, they look lifeless.
Speaker 4 (50:01):
They look miserable.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
And they had that like red hot start to the season,
or I guess a little bit into the season here,
I think they just kind of got too hot too
quick and have settled down and peaked at the wrong time.
Here I'm out in the Cubs. I do not consider
them a threat. Are worried to me? Are we in
a safe space here? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (50:16):
Can I Can I say something that I'm rooting really
hard for?
Speaker 5 (50:19):
Hit me?
Speaker 4 (50:20):
I want the Mets to get the five seed, Okay,
I don't want to deal with the Mets. Okay, I
get valid, very valid. I don't even think, by the way,
I don't even think they're good. I don't know they're like.
That's kind of where I was to go. I think
they have something mentally on us. So Cityfield, man, Yeah,
I don't want to go to City Field. Yeah. So
I kind of want San Diego in that sixth spot.
(50:41):
The other part of this is San Diego's beating the
Dodgers in a playoff series before. San Diego is kind
of shown this year that they're not They're not scared
of the Dodgers. They kind of a cool rivalry, great rivalry,
and it'd be awesome to see a San Diego LA
series in round one where they're gonna throw all the
haymakers they can at each other and we're gonna get
the winner. That's maybe maybe we get San Diego was
a pumpkin in the playoffs. In my opinion, every time,
(51:02):
every time when there's important baseball to be played, San
Diego is not going to be winning that game. In
my opinion. Maybe they win an NLDS series, they're never
going to the World Series. Maybe that's knock on wood.
I loved that the the deadline reaction was like, oh
the I mean, they went all in for sure and
what they wanted it do for them. Since the deadline,
I think they have a worst record post deadline than
pre deadline. It's like that. It reminds it's I said
(51:25):
this at the time, reminds me of the New York Giants.
The New York Giants. It's different, way different, because the
Padres are confident. But the New York Giants went out
and they got abdual Carter and everybody's like, oh my god,
Abdul Carter's so good, and he is. He is good.
But everybody's like, oh, the Giants are gonna be confident now,
they're gonna win eight or nine games. They're gonna they
had a great d line last year. They strengthened a
(51:47):
strength on a bad team. The Padres were not a
contending team in my opinion, and they strengthened their strength.
They went out and they got Mason Miller and the
other I forgot, the other bullpen guy that they got.
They already had an elite bullpen. They needed help with
power on the offense, and they did a little bit
of that too. But I think people way overreacted to
a closer. You know how I feel about the Schelan
(52:08):
Renard and I know we disagree a little bit. Duran
came here and Duran has been huge. I do think
we overrate. We overrate like guys like Mason Miller and
the importance of they just they don't play every day
and all the way.
Speaker 5 (52:22):
Ryan Helsley, oh my goodness, I can't believe he's this
bad for them.
Speaker 4 (52:28):
That's it's so like the highs are high and the
lows are low for relievers. So it's just you have
three bad outings in a row and you start spiraling
and your entire season long arrays messed up. Like I
it's a it's a dangerous game to play when you
pay relievers a lot or when you give up a
lot for relievers, and I love I don't think we
(52:48):
gave up too much for Duran. I thought it was
we didn't give up what the Padres gave up for
Mason Miller, and I thought we got a better player
Mason Miller. So that's a conversation for another day. That
we got plenty of time to talk baseball because on
the other side, we're talking NFL, n FL, the National
Football League. Week one. I gotta play on every game.
(53:08):
We're gonna hit every single game. Talk a little Eagles, Uh,
talk a little Chiefs charges from last night back after this.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved Diehard radiop w A and w G two
seven three D Philadelphia is Fox Sports Radio, The Gambler.
Speaker 5 (53:28):
Pat.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Than Red Tag. Gotta look, Kate's got a good betch.
Speaker 4 (53:48):
Welcome back to the Tough Cover Radio Show. In the
noon hour, college football going on. We'll touch on anything
if it happens here in the first hour of the games.
We got a lot to talk about. On the NFL
side of things. I've got to bet on every single
game and we're gonna get to that. But we got
(54:09):
two games to talk about. Let's talk about last night
first Chiefs and Chargers. Chargers, they go down to Brazil.
The field look better, good way better, good way better
for the Brazilians to get to get the field figured
out there. I wish it would have happened a year ago,
but I guess it all it all worked out. I
think last yeah, okay, but good for good for them
(54:31):
to having the field in better shape. And it was
a fun game. Chargers got up early and kind of
stayed up. The Chiefs had their one chance to tie
it back up and then had another chance, went down
six to get the ball back and Justin Herbert makes
a big play with his legs his career down. I
think they won eleven games last year. They made the
playoffs twice, so yeah, I don't think they're gonna be
(54:54):
a contender this year like I, But the difference is
I don't want to rehash them. The reason that I
always got upset with scham Bernard's Herbert hatred, which is
funny that now I watched Justin Herbert and I'm actually like, like,
I'm not rooting against him anymore, which is it's frustrating
that scham Bernard took the hatred from me.
Speaker 5 (55:13):
Because I was.
Speaker 4 (55:15):
I was a chum. I was a Justin Herbert hater
from at Oregon, like I was not a fan of
his in college. I was like, I was the biggest
to over Herbert guy in the draft. Ever, I was wrong,
and it's what no, I was wrong. I was wrong.
Herbert's much better. And the where I got frustrated when
(55:38):
I used to get mad at the Herbert stuff is
that people would put him in the Josh Allen Club,
in the Borough Club, in the in the in the
uh Patrick Mahomes Club, in the Lamar Jackson Club, and
people would say, oh, well, he's better than Jalen Hurts.
Is not even a conversation. And some of that still happens.
And if you want to come out against that, I
have no problem with it, because he's not those guys.
(56:00):
You need to accomplish more than just making the playoffs.
Sweat Wow, big play on SMU for the first play.
But you need to accomplish more than just making the
playoffs a couple times, putting up big numbers, and you
need to do more to be in that class of
those top four elite guys who have been elite for
multiple multiple multiple seasons have made multiple playoff runs, have
(56:22):
in Jalen Hurt's case, went to multiple super Bowls. But
once you get past those five guys, he is just
as good as any other quarterback in the NFL. And
my issue is when you're putting them at like twenty
fifth and I understand something that's a bit, but he
did pass Daniel Jones. What I mean like, if you
(56:43):
were saying, like, oh, I think he's the twelfth best
quarterback and you people saying he's top five or wrong,
I'd be like, you know what, you're right, but I
think he's the seventh or eighth best quarterback. So that's like,
that's where it's at. Where That's why I gets that's
why I get frustrated. I hear you.
Speaker 5 (57:00):
I'm here to apologize Justin Herbert that I think that
last night he played excellent, that I do think he's
passed Daniel Jones and my quarterback rankings that I think
what was the what we got another reaction to We
got some live action football.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
The SMU play got tipped up in the air and
the guy made a great play.
Speaker 5 (57:15):
Oh wow, Yeah, Justin Herbert and not making that play,
I don't think, But I mean a couple of spin
zones to work from last night. Right for starters, I'm
monitoring the Madison Beer situation here. That could be a
game changer. Usually I think in general that that may
not be the best thing for an athlete to you know,
your mind elsewhere. But I also think there's some truth
to when you have a solid woman in your life
(57:37):
that it, you know.
Speaker 4 (57:38):
Creates a better opportunity.
Speaker 5 (57:39):
That might be the situation with Justin Herbert that could
change the outlook here. That's QB one kind of thing,
so had that in mind there. I do think he
played very good football last night. That there's no doubt
in my mind. Using his legs at a higher rate
I think is noteworthy. There something that we'll see if
that is a trend in something that continues. That last play,
that that rum that ultimately like iced the game there.
That was big stuff from Justin Herbert. I saw your tweet.
(58:01):
I agree with that. It's also Chris Jones like you
just can't like make that that was a mistake on
his end to allow him to get outside of the
pocket there.
Speaker 4 (58:10):
It was a Week one win.
Speaker 5 (58:11):
It was arguably the biggest win of Justin Herbert's career.
I'm okay with leaving it at that for now.
Speaker 4 (58:16):
I think that's strong. He's won eleven games twelve. I
think you want eleven games once and twelve games the
other time. So he's had other good wins. I think
he's beat the Chiefs before forty two and thirty eight
in his career. No, yeah, for sure. I mean that's
not that bad there. There's that we want to talk
about the rest of the And this is what I mean.
When we get past those top five guys, we're talking
about guys like Kyler Murray who absolutely have a worst
(58:36):
career record than that, and guys like brock Perty who
have won really good parties better than that better record.
Last year he went, why did they go like six
and ten in the games he played? Yeah, So I
mean after you get past those top five guys, hey,
Jordan Love. I think Jordan loves the six best quarterback.
He has a better record than that. But that's another conversation.
(58:57):
I just think with the fact that I quieted down
a lot last year on the Herbert hate because that
was a team I expected to win four or five
games and they went out and they went eleven and six,
And I think a lot of that's Hardball being a
fantastic coach, and he still is, and that's why it
was so fun to me all season where Denver was
getting pushed to be the team that was gonna compete
(59:17):
with the Chiefs, the team that can win the division,
and not the team that's coached by Jim Harball. When
we've seen every Gym Harball team he's ever coached that's
taken a leap in year two. Now, do I think
that's really gonna happen. No, It's hard to take a
leap from winning eleven games when you lost your best
player in the preseason. And on that point, the offensive
line was a problem. Yeah, I thought yesterday for both teams,
(59:38):
I would say, by the way, yeah, absolutely, well, we
knew that coming in with Kansas City they're relying on
some rookies there. But yeah, the Chargers. For Herbert to
have that game with the O line playing the way
it did and with the running game really struggling, I
think was really impressive. But I won't make you suffer
too much more. We'll talk about Thursday, and I don't
want to talk too much about it because so much
(59:59):
on the station, you're gonna hear so much eagle stalk
all year long. I try to be a little bit
more of a gambling show, a little bit more national sometimes,
but I will just say I'm sorry to say this
with Jared in the room, I love that the take
from the national media is, oh, look at the pesky
Cowboys and look at oh they they kept it close,
(01:00:19):
and I think they're gonna be better than we thought.
Let me just be the first to say I like
the Cowboys underwin total before the game. I still like
the Cowboys underwin total after the game. They put up
twenty points on a defense that to not have their
best player, and we all are walking out of the
game talking about how great Dak Prescott is, how great
the offense is. This is a defense that lost half
of the starters last year and then lost its best
(01:00:41):
player because he spat on a guy, which, by the way,
we got the Jalen Carter on right here. You want
a dog, sometimes it's gonna bark. You want a dog
sometimes he's gonna bark. That's how it works. You want
a guy who plays with the physical, takeover the game,
f you mentality that Jalen Carter does. Oh well, sometimes
(01:01:02):
sometimes he laid with a dog. You get fleased. I
don't mind it at all. That's unacceptable.
Speaker 5 (01:01:07):
You don't.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
You don't, somebody can we who got punched in the
head last night? Travis bus he got punched in the head.
Let me just say this. That is the worst thing
to do on a football field than spitting on someone's arm.
You get punched in the head, they're yeah, I gotta
tell you, I get it. It is spitting on someone's disrespectful.
I don't give a I don't. It's almost cursed for
(01:01:30):
the first time. I don't give a crap. It's it's
a little soft. We talk about the things that happen
at the bottom of a pile, people grabbing jump people,
twisting nuts, people is sticking their eyes in people's eyeball,
or sticking their songs and fingers and people's eyeballs. All
that stuff is worse and doesn't get penalized or doesn't
(01:01:51):
even get thrown out of the game. And because it
happened in front of a ref he gets thrown out.
By the way, we don't know what Dak said, And
I'm not saying it excuses it, but I don't. I
don't care like I don't. He said he probably think
he did something dumb and if if he didn't get
penalized for it, I especially wouldn't care. But anyway, yeah,
I it doesn't.
Speaker 3 (01:02:12):
I do.
Speaker 4 (01:02:13):
I do.
Speaker 5 (01:02:13):
We'll shout out this comment we got here from Philly
Philly the podcast that says getting spit on is the
worst thing you can do to another man, lol.
Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
But it was Dak, not another man, So I guess
I've never been spit on, so I don't know. Maybe
i'd feel differently if I was in a if I
had been spit on before. I guess I.
Speaker 6 (01:02:30):
Feel like that's the worst thing you can do to
somebody else, Like there's nothing topping the disrespect of spinning
on someone. There's just something you not don't do, Like
that is like aggravated assault, les you can do that
to somebody.
Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
I think I got a lot of things that happen
on a football field, and anytime there's a flight, it's
aggravated assault technically.
Speaker 6 (01:02:47):
Like I guess, but spitting it, it's like that you
cross the line and everyone knows what type of player
Jalen Carter has been in the past. Like I'm not
going to get into the Georgia stuff, but like you
just like yes, but that's who he who he is
as a human being.
Speaker 4 (01:03:01):
I mean, do we want to do this about the
Dallas Cowboys who have signed every x con for the
last twenty five years? Are the Cowboys fans going to
be holier than now and talk about you know they
had who was the defensive end that ended up going
to the m M A who Will Hardy? Is that
his name?
Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
Greg Hardy, Greg Hardy. Greg Hardy beat the ever loving
crap out of multiple women and Jerry signed him after
that and defended him as a human being and said,
you know we we've as a person. No, that is
that worse than spinning on someone I'd say, yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:03:30):
On the football field one on one, that is something
you just don't do it. And as in my opinion,
I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
No, I don't think you shouldn't have done it. Yeah,
you shouldn't have done it. But I'm saying like, as
a society, I think we're I think we're overstating like
how I don't know, I get it. Disrespectful, it's mean
to do a lot of things that you mean to do.
Do you think he's gonna get suspended or do you
think he does, it would be one of the biggest
travesties of all time.
Speaker 5 (01:03:51):
I don't think he should. I don't think he should.
He got suspended one game already, Like.
Speaker 4 (01:03:55):
That's the game. Fine them if you want to find
him going to get fine for sure? Yeah fine, I
don't care about that. I mean, Jalen Carter has to
be smarter than that. He just does.
Speaker 5 (01:04:03):
And he's a guy that has the reputation there's gonna
be a target on his back.
Speaker 4 (01:04:07):
Then there's gonna be a closer watch for him.
Speaker 5 (01:04:08):
Specifically, you can't just be out in the open doing
that the way that he did, and to take it
one step further, just don't put yourself in the situation
man like because the player got hurt, there was the
downtime on the field that he walks over, goes to
talk some trash marks, right, that's Jalen Carter. That when
you got a dog, he's gonna bark, He's gonna get
in the mix like that. Dak Prescott baited him, man,
he spit at his feet and he said something to him,
(01:04:28):
and Jalen Carter took the bait. You just have to
be smarter than that. I'm not offended in the way
it is disrespectful.
Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
I have no problem with Even if Dak did kind
of spit at him and say some stuff to him,
I have no problem with that either. I'm not some
Dak hater at all, Like I have no problem with that.
I just I don't care about this at all. I'll
be honest, like it was a nothing to me once
it happened. It's like, oh, I wish he wasn't thrown
out they won the game. I could not care less now.
Speaker 5 (01:04:54):
It is one of those like we can throw it out,
move on, Like, you can't put yourself in this position,
Jalen Carter, you can't do that again moving forward, or
anything to that extent. I think if he's more sneaky
about it or not as in the face like whatever,
if he doesn't get suspended.
Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
I don't think he's gonna ever spin on anyone again. Yeah,
and he should probably gonna have He's probably gonna do
something on a field that's violent and physical at some point.
Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
He could pile drive Dak Prescott next time and there
will be no I'm saying that's.
Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
Kind of stupid, Like we have these fights that there's
fists thrown Travis Kelce got literal a fist in the
head last night. It was unpenalized.
Speaker 6 (01:05:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
The Dallas offensive lineman punched Nolan Smith in the head
the other day. It was unpenalized.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
They should have been thrown out of the game if
we're throwing people out of the game for spinning on
people and and not to get into like I'm not
the show that does all the rest of the rest
of the rest. Reid blanken Ship gets fifteen yards. What
is Red Blankenship supposed to do when you when throws
the I've ever seen in my life, like.
Speaker 6 (01:05:56):
A die on that hill. That's a good ball killing
he threw it. He was going to the ground. If
Ferguson didn't bobble that he catches that goes to the ground,
doesn't get hit at all.
Speaker 4 (01:06:05):
It's a perfect ball.
Speaker 6 (01:06:06):
And Dak threw plenty of perfect balls the other day
and that just so happened.
Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
That's no touchdowns he had for four or five drops. Yeah,
win that game a ce gam. I think I think
people are overstating a little bit how good of a
game he played against a team that lost half their
defense and lost their best player, and he threw for
under two inch yards and put up twenty points. But no,
there were a couple drops, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 6 (01:06:27):
And like like you said, Jalen Carter being out there,
like with not being out there, Javonte Williams ran all over,
which surprised me.
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
But that's the defense you.
Speaker 5 (01:06:36):
Got both your guy Miles Sanders sucks, Gionte Williams sucks.
Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
They ran well. I can't the impressed me. They I
will say. I'll give him credit. I thought that r
I thought they weren't gonna be able to run the
ball at all, and I thought that was probably gonna
throw for three three fifty in that game, So I
thought it was going to be a full on attack
the CB two and throw all over. I think Jalen
Carter going out changed impact on the run the game
more down the stretch. Yeah, I think what had Todan Davis?
(01:07:00):
By the way, Well, yeah, Jordan Davis was great. He
played eighty seven percent of the snaps, really good in
the run game in the second half. What I will
say about Jordan Davis is he's the worst finishing pass
rusher of all time. Dad being able to wiggle out
of that was crazy. You're big for nothing in some
times some ways there Jordan Davis, but other than that,
he was he had a great game. I I do
(01:07:22):
just I struggle with the way that the national media
has treated that game. We had a fifteen yard penalty
from blanken Ship that I think anybody who like it's
hard for me to be like, anybody who likes football
doesn't want to see that penalized. Yeah, no you don't.
Speaker 6 (01:07:37):
But if they're going to enforce the rules, which you know,
there was some holes they didn't call. Obviously, the the
Nolan Smith taunt, by the way, like I fully disagree
that is that's complete BS like that should not have
been called.
Speaker 4 (01:07:49):
Yeah, the game one of the touchdown drives and it's
not BS spit on him. He got ejected for the game. Well,
their first drive started at midfield. Yeah, so it's like
the first job started at midfield. Then Nolan Smith, you
have another drive where I think it was about to
be third down. Instead of it being third down, you
have the drives basically start at midfield again, so two
of their touchdown drives out of the two of them
(01:08:10):
start at midfield. So it's like I and then as
soon as the second half hit, I think they had
seventeen plays for like sixty four yards on their last
seventeen plays, So the defensive kind of worries for me.
It's hard for me to pay any mind to any
of it besides the CB two stinking and never wanted
to see a Dori Jackson again. But like outside of that,
(01:08:32):
they didn't have Jalen Carter. He's a top five player
in the NFL on defense. Like, yeah, I just it's
hard for me to take anything seriously away from the
game now.
Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
I left there being a little bit impressed with the
Cowboys that they felt respectable in a way that I
wasn't sure was going to be the case that I
think we've talked about there. I still think is a
chance that that team could completely be off the rails
by the end of the season. So I thought it
was encouraging that Dak Prescott looked like he did in
that team. From the egos perspective, it's nothing to be
worried about whatsoever.
Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
A wins win.
Speaker 5 (01:08:58):
You want to know you advance here, and you had
a lot that you dealt with that like a lot
of things that like just went wrong in a way
that it shouldn't be that you can't plan for Jalen
Carter now being available for a single snap in that game,
and they found a way.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
He's so get the job done. So it's kind of
washed the hands, move on.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
I don't think there's a ton of hard hitting takeaways
from that matchup.
Speaker 4 (01:09:16):
Specifically Dickerson goes out in the first quarter. My Latta
banged a little concerned about Dickerson by the way, Yeah yeah, definitely, yeah,
point rush back, stupid stuff that they could have handled
a couple of games without him. So, I mean, any
I've seen some people kind of be like concerned about
the offensive line because of the run game not doing well.
(01:09:37):
There's going to be natural regression. With sa Quoni the
best season of all time last year, there's going to
be games that he doesn't tear it up. It's it's fine,
it's normal. It doesn't bother me at all. And just
with Stoutland, I trust the offensive line long term to
always always be what it's gonna be. Jalen look great, Yeah,
I mean Jalen, Jalen does what he does. He's he's
he's anybody. I mean, it's seven first downs, so this
(01:09:58):
les how many times did he drop back and just
and kill them like, Yeah, he had break four incompletions.
One was a drop and the other three were throwaways. There. Yeah,
I thought he was great. The only I mean, like
the offensive stuff that people want to like, Oh, you
want to complain about the offense. They had the three
straight drives that were punts. One time they went three
(01:10:18):
and out right after the weather delay, which I think
both offenses struggled after.
Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
The weather delay.
Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
Clearly right Whens had momentum. Yeah, and that's the part,
like you get that fuck yeah, and there you go.
He'll give it and I'll take it. But you get
the momentum with that fumble, and then you immediately have
the weather delay and it stops the momentum. And you
come back out and you go three and out. That's
I'm not going to kill them for that. Then you
come back out and you have a nice drive put together.
You get to the fifty yard line fourth and four,
(01:10:45):
and you don't go for it. You run your guys
out there and you fake it and then you take
the fallse Star thought that was a spot to go.
You're up four points seven minutes to go. I feel
like you get that first down, you could take another
two or three minutes off and get a field goal,
and you get that first down, you could end up
taking five or six minutes off and getting a touchdown,
so and really ending the game. If you go thirty
(01:11:05):
one to twenty there, it ends the game. So I
thought that was if I'm complaining about anything from the game,
it's I hope that's not a theme that kind of
a lack of aggression. I didn't think they were aggresive
enough on that job. Or again when they got the
ball back was four minutes to go. They were just
trying to get one first down and in the game,
and they didn't. I thought they were not aggressive enough
in those two tries. That's really the only thing I
(01:11:26):
have to complain about from the game.
Speaker 5 (01:11:27):
I also say, Miles Sanders, beyond just the fumble, you
should be straight up embarrassed that Zach Bond can hunt
you down like that and shout out Zach Bond, who
played excellent. I thought he was one of the bright
spots on defense. John Campbell I thought was very good.
The defense was pretty fine overall. Zach Bond like hunting
him down like that. If you're Miles Sanders, man, you
gotta look yourself at the meror and be like, I
(01:11:47):
just can't be getting caught by linebacker.
Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
But that's who Miles Sanders is. And the Eagles go
out and signed Zadarius Smith. Yeah, which I've been a
big Zadarius Smith guy for a while. You know, we'll
say what he has. Can you look at the age
for me there? I want to say thirty three. I
was gonna gets thirty one, thirty two, so yeah, thirty
three wouldn't surprise me.
Speaker 5 (01:12:03):
We are thirty two thirty two.
Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
Yeah, so I he's obviously been around for while. I
think it's like a six or seventh team, but nine
sacks last year at the very least, I think he's
a solid rotational pass rusher to doesn't hurt, can't hurt,
can't hurt for sure. Let's get over and talk about
these these games this weekend because I've got I believe,
sixteen bets to go over here. Let's let's talk first
(01:12:28):
my best bet of the weekend or my best bet
of the NFL slate. I'm going with.
Speaker 5 (01:12:35):
Rats plus three at the New England Patriots.
Speaker 4 (01:12:38):
That's a two unit play. That is my best bet.
I've talked a lot about it all off season. Where
I think you go from the worst quarterback in the league,
the worst head coach in the league, the worst running
back room in the league, to a very competent head
coach and Pete Carroll who's won. I forget if it's
nine or more games or ten or more games in
eleven or the last twelve years, I forget what that status.
(01:12:58):
Either way. Impressive stats, he's going crazy in this new game,
by the way, but you also have the fact that
you're going from Aidan O'Connell and Gardner minsheet to Gino Smith.
Whatever your opinion is on Gene, I think you actually
had him higher on the list when we did the
quarterback rankings than I did. And I thought I was
a Geno lover. Gino at the very least very competent.
Clearly I love Geno and I can't even I can't
(01:13:21):
go there. But and then you go from you go
from the running back room to a guy I bet
at seventy five to one to an offensive player of
the year. And I'm going to be using in my
DFS lineup this week, Ashton Genty. I think Ashton Genty
gets gets the ground rolling. I think he might be
one of the I think my prediction and you'll love
this the story of this game coming out of week one,
(01:13:42):
the rookie running decks. I think kicking, Travion has a
big day on the ground, and I think or remondering,
but I think Travion will be a part of it. Yeah,
and I think that gent has a big day on
the ground. I think both teams are going to run
the ball really well in this game. Don't think either
team very good in terms of run defense. So and
that's and the other part of this is the closer
we get to the season, I have the Patriots at
(01:14:03):
eight and nine. Early in the offseason, I was even
thinking maybe nine to eight, maybe a potential wildcard playoff team.
The closer we get there's certain teams that I'm rising
on and falling on. You look at that Patriots roster,
I don't know if the talent's there yet. Yeah, that's
the million dollar question that I think. There's been a
lot of Drake May and by the Christian Goan Zalis
out is a big deal for that Patriots defense. There,
(01:14:25):
Drake May, I am a believer in I was impressed
by by what we saw last year. But I do
think that the cart has been put before the horse
a little bit that it feels like the team as
a whole, the organization as a whole, still has some
work to do for actually building up this roster. I
like the running backs, I like Travian a whole lot.
I think that there's progress, but I don't think that
this team is quite in that like, let's push for
a true playoff run. They'll be fresky, there'll be tough
(01:14:46):
to be on a week by week basis, but I
don't think they're quite in the tier that they're sometimes
talked about. They're probably a year or two away. I
always say.
Speaker 6 (01:14:52):
I mean, I do think they probably make a little push,
but I don't know if they'll make the playoffs this
year or not.
Speaker 4 (01:14:58):
But I do like them down the line. What they're
building is a good good in my opinion. Totally agree.
I'm a huge Drake May guy. I mean, I've said
this before. It is not a done deal that Jayden
Daniels is just going to be a better quarterback long
term than Drake May. And I know he's two or
three years older three than Drake May. So you always
knew coming into the year May was a little bit
(01:15:19):
more of a project, whereas Daniels, with his natural athleticism
and how fast he is, not that May is an athletic.
He is.
Speaker 5 (01:15:24):
I believe Jade Daniels is closer in age to Jalen
Hurts than he is Drake May.
Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
He might be right there, you might be right there.
So yeah, I do. I do think long term, I'm
still I'm still on the side that I think I
would have taken May in that spot. So we'll see
if I'm wrong long term. I've been wrong plenty, but
I'm going with the Raiders in that game, like the
Raiders plus three, I think they went outright. Let's go
to the next game. Let's go Jet Steelers, and I'll wait,
(01:15:52):
by the way, if either you have a play on
either game, let me know, or any game would go through.
You have a play on that one and nothing on
Raiders Patriots. I do it the next one. Nothing. So
let's talk about Jets Steelers and I'll throw out to
scham Bernard's I think I know where stan Renark's going.
We're rolling Steelers money line.
Speaker 5 (01:16:06):
Baby what wait, No, I'm sorry, Jet's money line. Yeah,
I got I'm on the I'm on the Justin Fields
games size.
Speaker 4 (01:16:14):
There weel Jets money line. Yeah, there we go. So
that I was about to store out of the Iarts studios.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
Yeah, I got myself confused there. But now I am
in on the Justin Field experience. I do believe in
what the Jets are building to an extent. I like
what Aaron Glenn has established. It's a bit of a identity,
a baseline of personality there. I do think that there's talent.
I'm not a believer in the Aaron Rodgers experience whatsoever.
Sign me up for the j E t As Jets,
jay e t y Jets. Jets.
Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
Give me Jets plus three against the Steelers. Aaron Rodgers,
however you want to slice it, not just as last
year in the Jets. If you take his last year
in Green Bay and combine it with the Jets, he's
been average. Yeah for a long stretch. Now, if you
look at the last three years, his teams are fifteen
and nineteen of the team total over and of sixty
(01:17:02):
total quarterbacks who have played three hundred plus plays on
the field over that three year stretch, Rodgers is thirty
third and EPA thirty third, and completion percentage over expected
thirty first success rate forty first in air yards. He
does not stretched the field anymore. He doesn't want to
take risks, throw the and turn the ball over. He
doesn't want to stand in the pocket for as long
as it takes to take those risks down the field
(01:17:24):
because he's afraid of getting hit and he's afraid of
hitting the ground. And I just I'm shocked at how
willing people are to accept that Aaron Rodgers is like
going to turn back into Aaron Rodgers. And I've heard
a lot of Steelers, more Steelers' optimism than I've heard
the last couple of years. And by the way, I
had the Steels going nine to eight, I have them
making the playoffs. But this is a game where I
(01:17:45):
like the revenge spot for Justin Fields. I like how
the whole team there has to be a little FU
from that team to Aaron Rodgers, or think Aaron Clinson
instilled that in the team, if not to the team
and the media about how he's talked about Aaron Rodgers
and how he feels about Aaron Rodgers. So I think
this team comes out with way more fu attitude than
the Steelers come out with. Its in New York home dog.
(01:18:05):
I like the Jets.
Speaker 5 (01:18:06):
Yeah, it's been four years since Aaron Rodgers has been
like a good quarterback here and I heard this stat
on the drive in listen to the Ryan and Rosilova podcast.
Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
Here his final year in Green Bay.
Speaker 5 (01:18:15):
So Rogers played all seventeen games, the team won eight
and nine. You know what he ranked in the in
the NFL and QBR that year, twenty seventh.
Speaker 4 (01:18:23):
I actually came away more than press with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (01:18:26):
Well done.
Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
But the point being here, I just think Rogers is cooked. Man.
Speaker 5 (01:18:30):
I don't think this is a him returning or it
was a bad situation. It wasn't ideal in the Jets.
But the bottom line is, I think the days of
him being a high level quarterback are just gone. I'm
rolling with the Jets.
Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
Let's go to anything on that one, Jard.
Speaker 6 (01:18:42):
Both teams are gonna be blow average season. This is
just a complete toss up in my opinion. So I
would not be anywhere near any of them lines.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
Personally, I feel that way about a game that's coming
up soon. But I have to bet on every game
because I forced that rule on myself. Apparently, let's talk
about another one. It's one of my favorite ones of
the week Arizona at New Orleans. Ugly, ugly game there.
And I'm lower on the Cardinals the most, so maybe
I think it's uglier than others. The only win total
I bet this season is Cardinals under eight and a
(01:19:11):
half wins at plus money. It's the only win total
I told myself I've been I haven't been good the
last two years in win totals, to be honest. I've
been better at kind of the the conference futures and
things like that, and maybe things with a little more
a little better odds I have. I've been kind of
going like five hundred on win totals, so I'm kind
of I picked my spots on college and NFL this year,
didn't place as many as I usually do. The only
one I did place Cardinals under eight and a half.
(01:19:33):
So I am low on the Cardinals. And but this
isn't an anti Cardinals bet. I'm not betting on the Saints.
I'm not a crazy person. Give me the under forty
three and a half and also give me first half
under twenty one and a half Spencer Rattler playing, so
it's not if it was Tyler shuck. I'm not a
Tyler shuck guy, but I would actually be a little
bit more nervous just because there's some unknown guess what.
(01:19:54):
I saw enough Spencer Ratler last year to know that
I'm fine betting the under here for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:19:58):
Yeah, there's no quarterback on these Saints roster that has
an NFL win in his pocket, which is just crazy there.
This is gonna be an ugly game. I think the
under is probably the way to play it here. I
will say there's a part of me that wonders if
six and a half is a tad too much, just
because I think this is gonna be a mess here,
but not enough to want to back that. I think,
if you are going about it, the under is the play.
But this might not be even a game that makes
(01:20:19):
the quadbox.
Speaker 6 (01:20:20):
The Saints are gonna be very, very bad this year.
Like I feel bad for kell Moore him being in Dallas,
but yeah, I got I got Cardinals debt for sure.
I like Marvin Harrison junior fifty eight and a half
over and then four and a half over. Also, just
the connection with him and Murray they talked about in
the past. This offseason, I'm confident he can easily reach
the numbers. I think he's gonna boost up until he
(01:20:41):
top twenty range. He's a wide receiver, he looks much bigger.
I hope he, you know, stays healthy and everything like that.
But yeah, that's my place for the Cardinals game. It's
going to be an ugly game though.
Speaker 4 (01:20:51):
So I I was a big Marvin Harrison guy in
the draft, not that everybody was, but I was very
vocal about how I thought he was a generational wide
receiver draft prospect. I was very disappointed last season by
how he looked, how he got in and out of sprouts,
how he got fat at certain points of the season.
Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
I thought, that's why I kind of don't love him
beefing up, by the way.
Speaker 4 (01:21:14):
And here's what I'll say, this is kind of a
trope of mine. I kind of usually hate when the
receiver beefs up and it's really strong and is jacked
and everybody freaks out about it. It reminds me so much
of everybody telling me how strong Jalen Rager was when
we drafted him, and I was like, yeah, but is
he good and can he catch? And is he fast?
(01:21:35):
And I never really got an answer for him. Was
fast in some ways?
Speaker 6 (01:21:41):
He doesn't even have to be fast as long as
his route running is crisp. But I mean, he's gonna
be able to get open, and he's big enough, his
hands are strong enough where he's going to make contestage
on balls. So speed's not necessarily and always an issue
at receiver outside and I think Higher Murray's a good
enough passer to get him the ball when needed in
tight windows.
Speaker 4 (01:21:58):
I hope you're right. I really hope he has a
bounce back season. I would not. I don't like when
I look dumb with draft stuff, which I do plenty,
because you know, you when you rank one hundred guys,
you're gonna be wrong on plenty. You're gonna be right
on plenty. You talk about the ones you're right on
more than the ones you're wrong on.
Speaker 5 (01:22:12):
But and by the way, the biggest fix is simply
throw him the ball more like.
Speaker 4 (01:22:16):
But that's but that's my problem with the Cardinals, and
I've talked about this so many times where coming into
this year that the only media market that could have
brought back the head coach to the quarterback and THEOC
after going eleven and fourteen in the games Kyler's played
in the last two years, the head coach Gannon, who
I think is a buffoon. Ye, And you have Kyler Murray,
who I think is more interested in video games than
studying and getting better at the NFL. I think he's
(01:22:37):
got athletic traits, and he's got an ability to escape pockets,
and he can make really electric plays happen. And when
you take that away, I think a lot of times
he really crumbles. And I have not liked how he's
progressed under Drew Petsing, the offensive coordinator. And last year,
anytime they had a tough game or anytime he wouldn't
throw it to Marvin Harrison, they'd ask him about in
the media and be like, well, ask Drew Petsing, Ask
(01:23:00):
the OC. He's the one call in the place. Guess what, Kyle,
you're throwing the ball like if Marvin, if you know,
if you get a play call you don't like and
the hot route is to Michael Wilson or whoever on
the team you want to say, you could still fill
the ball to Marvin Harrison Junior. I promise, like you're
you're allowed to. So I my whole thing, And I
said this a lot with certain guys I'm low on
this year. Tyreek Hill was one for fantasy, Marv was
(01:23:22):
one for fantasy. What changed? Why am I buying in?
What changed? And I'm hoping that he just he got
better year one year or two and he figured out
that maybe last year he was focused on the wrong things.
He was doing the weird stuff, holding out from being
able to buy his jersey and stuff. And I just
think maybe being in the NFL a year, maybe maybe
that does help. I'm worried that not enough changed around him,
(01:23:45):
and I think next year he's gonna have a new
quarterback and new head coach and a new offensive coordinator.
That's my official prediction for Arizona. So my prediction is
next year is where I'll be buying the I'll be
buying the dip on Marph. That's my where I'm standing.
But quick, by the way, there's a comment here that
says Mark wants to get spit on and and let
me let me just say, the Eagles fan, this is
(01:24:08):
my donkey brains of the week. We we have that segment.
We'll have to figure out that drop again and get
it back on the system. But Donkey brains of the
week go to the Eagles fans like Mikey Miss and
some of the Eagles fans out there. Yeah, some of
the Eagles fans google me, but some of the Eagles
fans out there who tweet he should be suspended. It
(01:24:31):
was a disgusting act. He should be suspended and teach
them a lesson. I hope Nick Sirianni suspends him for
next week and grow up. These aren't church choir boys.
Grow up. You want a dog, he's gonna bark. I
don't know how many times I oh like I think
(01:24:53):
the way people reacted to that. Everybody wants to show
that they're holier than now, and they're sanctimonious and they're
a good person. And I don't care. I'm not interested
in proving the people that I'm a good person.
Speaker 5 (01:25:04):
So that's how. That's what I have to say about it.
I will say I wanted Jared to get the reps
run the whole board here. When I was laying in
bed last night, I was thinking about getting the Hawk
two as a draft for today.
Speaker 4 (01:25:14):
But a good one. Yeah, that would have been a
good one. Real quick on this one's I don't have
stats for it. Give me the over forty seven and
Bucks Falcons. I think that's I think that's a high
scoring game. You said we were talking before the show,
you don't buy on Tampa Bay the Super Bowl contender
because of the defense. Yeah, while I don't think it
has a high high I think it has a high floor,
but I don't think it's going to be an elite
(01:25:34):
defense by any means. I think Atlanta's going to want
to throw it all over the yard, and we saw
that they did that when Pennix played in the games
he played last year Tampa. They've thrown it all over
the yard since the Baker's gotten there, maybe even before that,
back to the Brady days. So I expect the high
scoring game. I was surprised to see Tampa was only
a one point dog. I leaned Tampa a little bit
in that game, but I'm just gonna go with the over.
I see this as like a thirty one to twenty
(01:25:56):
eight game. Oh my god, the SMU quarterback just got smoked.
But thirty one twenty eight game, I lean Tampa. Wa
give me the over.
Speaker 5 (01:26:03):
By the way, we got a zero zero score in
Texas and San Jose State right now with Art struggling
a little bit, but.
Speaker 4 (01:26:10):
Uh, yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:26:10):
I mean I like the Falcons from a season long
perspective that that is one of my friends sneaky playoff teams.
I think this game is a bit more up for grabs,
like the Tristan WARF's injury did change things a little
bit from me.
Speaker 4 (01:26:21):
I like Gary. Also for Atlanta, Yeah, also notable there.
Speaker 5 (01:26:25):
I like the over. I think forty seven and a half.
That's a good number there, and I think both these
teams are gonna put up some points. If you pin
me down right now, I probably go Tampa Bay, but
I can see you going either way. I think the
over is the way to play it.
Speaker 6 (01:26:35):
Sure, I got Tampa minus one and a half. I
like that play a lot. The offense is gonna be electric.
I don't know what's gonna look like without Cohen call
and plays. I still assume it's gonna be you know,
they got Mike Evans, they got a Mecca. Yeah, like,
I think it's gonna be electric. They got Bucky Irvin,
and I'm just not too high on Atlanta. I think
they'll have a decent season. But I'm just not bolting
(01:26:56):
the Pennix at all. I mean, he's a lefty quarterback.
I don't just don't like lefty quarterbacks playing football. As
a receiver, I hated catching the ball from the lefties,
so that's a person personal thing for me. But yeah,
I got Tampa min just one and a half in this.
Speaker 4 (01:27:10):
You know who I think likes catching the ball from
a lefty? Who's Drake London. Drake London certainly does. He's
in my DFS lineup. We'll talk about my DFS lineup
at the end of the show because last three games
of last year he had a fantastic, fantastic rapport with
Michael Pennock, So watch out for that. Maybe if you're
a player prop guy. Maybe I was. I was looking
at it. Nothing, nothing caught my eye too much because
(01:27:31):
they're actually the prop markets expecting a big day from
Drake London.
Speaker 6 (01:27:34):
So they did lose all Carlton Carlton on the other end, Yeah, Davis,
that's true.
Speaker 4 (01:27:38):
That's true that I did they I think they drafted
uh a dB. I could be wrong there, but I
believe they might have on Day two out of a
dB I liked. I can't remember who, but my maybe
besides the Raiders my favorite play of the day. But
the reason it's not my best bet is because I
split it into two, so I have two one unit
plays kind of on the same thing a little bit here,
but Penn State with a big man pick. But Chase Brown.
(01:28:01):
Everybody knows I'm a Chase Brown truther. He's my guy.
This year got him my three most important leagues for fantasy,
and in six of his last eight games last year,
he averaged thirty eight I botched that. Six of his
last eight games he went over eighteen and a half
receiving yards and averaged thirty eight receiving yards per game.
Give me Chase Brown over eighteen and a half receiving yards,
(01:28:23):
and also give me Chase Brown over eighty eight and
a half combined rushing and receiving yards. Last year, every
single one of his last eight games he had a
combined one hundred total yards, and he averaged one hundred
and seventeen total yards per game in that stretch. So
you're getting eighteen and a half receiving yards and eighty
eight and a half total yards. And just a fun
(01:28:43):
fact for the people out there, I was betting Chase
Brown receiving yards and till yards last year. So I
went back and took a look at what those numbers were.
End of the season. Those numbers were like twenty eight
and a half receiving yards and like ninety nine and
a half for total combined yards. And here it is
week one and it's back to eighteen and a half
and eighty eight and a half. I use this a lot.
(01:29:03):
It's week one. I'll probably stop using it. What changed?
What changed in Cincinnati from the last eight games of
last year? And something that I also found interesting about that.
Do you know what the Bengals record was in those
final eight games where they fully gave the full reigns
to Chase Brown and said, you are the engine of
the offense. We're giving you twenty five touches a game,
six and two, six and two. Look at that. So
I think the Bengals probably figured, you know, we had
(01:29:25):
a great offense first half of the year, but maybe
it helps our defense a little bit more to use
the running game and to not just throw the ball
sixty yards every play. I think they think they found
the recipe in that second half of the year. What
changed on that offense? Same quarterback, same play caller, same
running back, same receivers. There's no like, no new offensive lineman,
kind of the same old line, like pretty much the
exact same offensive unit for Cincinnati. There. I expect them
(01:29:47):
to have the exact same kind of plan that worked
throughout that second half of the year. So you give
me Chase Brown over eighteen and a half and Chase
Brown over eighty eight and a half combined yards.
Speaker 5 (01:29:55):
Yeah, no arguments my end that I'm in on the
Chase Brown buying the stock this year. Do you think
that he has an awesome season and kind of my
method across the board, get as much Cincinnati Bengals in
those bet slips in those fantasy lineups as possible this year,
that offense is gonna put up some unreal numbers, and
I think it starts right in a Week one against
the Browns.
Speaker 6 (01:30:11):
I think for you, jerk, I think it's just crazy
that the lines five and a half and I like, yeah,
way too low.
Speaker 4 (01:30:17):
Should be way more than that. It should be starts.
Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
That's why I kind of figured he's only Zach Taylor
has one win in the first two weeks of the
season as a head coach for the Bengals, So I
guess that's the reason. Yeah, but yeah, the Bengals offense
is electric, like they're going to put up points, and
hopefully for them playing in the preseason, it helps them
get to a queer start this season. But yeah, I
would take the over five and a half. I'm not
betting it, but that's what I would take.
Speaker 4 (01:30:41):
Yeah, speaking of a five and a half point line
that I think is up to six six and a
half now that I think is incorrect, give me the
Commanders minus five and a half. I'll lay the points.
I think they win by double digits here against the Giants.
I think that the Giants optimism that has sprouted up
over these last couple of weeks, I feel like is
very dumb. I don't know how else to say it.
Speaker 5 (01:31:01):
I'm more of the Giants' optimistic kind of guy here.
Not that I think they're gonna be good, but I
think they could win seven games this year, and I
think you should look at that as a successful season.
They've got three quarterbacks that are better than their starting
option last year, which at least is something the positive direction.
I don't think they're gonna be good, but I do
think they're gonna be competent. I can see it going
either way. There's a part of me that wants to
be a little bit out there and take them on
(01:31:22):
the money line, and I think they have a chance.
Speaker 4 (01:31:24):
Here a lot of people doing it.
Speaker 5 (01:31:25):
Yeah, I'm gonna stay away from this one, but I
am not counting out this Giants team.
Speaker 6 (01:31:30):
I think Washington wins. This Giants definitely could cover. I
think they at least get five wins this season. I
think they're a little bit better than people expect, and
I expect Washington to take a step back and Sam
goes with Jaden Daniels. I've said in the past, I
don't think he has as great of a season. He's
going to have that step back to where c. J.
Stroud did in a sophomore season. Not bad season, but
by no means gonna have a terrible season. But he
(01:31:52):
will take that step back, you know, a little back
to reality for him. And I just think the Washington
Commanders are just so old and that's going to play
factor down the line in the off season.
Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
No, the age thing is crazy. I've bucked against the
trend a little bit. We were talking about this before
the show. I expected all off seasons that the Commanders
would be the team that everybody's like, Actually, they're going
to go to the Super Bowl and instead. I actually
feel like people have been pretty pessimistic about the Commander
is pretty negative, and I think that the age reason
is totally fair. They're the oldest team in the NFL
(01:32:23):
by like a good margin. I think Jimmy Kemski said,
the oldest team in the last fifteen years. If you're
twenty eight years old, Yeah, by average, Like that's insane,
that's insane.
Speaker 5 (01:32:32):
If you take their seven oldest players off, they're still
having a higher average age than the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (01:32:37):
I saw that their average is twenty eight and the
Eagles have six players they are twenty eight or older.
That's crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:32:44):
That is nuts.
Speaker 6 (01:32:45):
That plays a factor deleting the season. They're that like
Von Miller thirty five. I'm pretty sure Marcus Lattimore is
twenty nine, thirty Like, they have an older squad, especially
in the defensive end, Like that would be a worry
for me if I was Commanders fan and Debo two,
Like I've gotten to Ebo talk. That's not a weapon
out there. He's not going to put up numbers that
you would expect him to. So other than McLaurin, I mean,
(01:33:06):
they don't have two too much.
Speaker 4 (01:33:08):
So it's yeah, it's it's interesting. And one more thing
on a tangent on that age point, because I saw
that chart on the average age and also the twenty
nine plus year olds or twenty eight plus year olds.
The Eagles have six on their team, the Packers have four.
They're the two youngest teams in the league and the
two youngest teams in terms of guys over twenty eight.
(01:33:29):
That's a rivalry that's built to last. I'm just letting them.
I've said this all offseason. Both of those teams are
built to be here in the mix for quite some time.
We had Eagles Packers last year in the playoffs. We
had quite a few of it in the early two thousands,
fourth and twenty six and other moments Rogers beat VIC
in a playoff game, there's been I think the Mica
(01:33:50):
thing adds to it too.
Speaker 5 (01:33:51):
Absolutely, the mikea thing absolutely adds to it as a
former cowboy, And yeah, I think the Packers and Eagles
are absolutely both gonna be here for quite some time.
Speaker 4 (01:34:00):
So let's get back to the plays. Carolina Jacksonville. So
there was only there was only two plays or two
games that I struggled to find my play for. This
was one of them, but I kind of like it
now that I found it. Give me Xavier Leget over
three and a half catches six of the ten games
that both he This was a Frankenstein stat let me
(01:34:22):
tell you, because he left the game due to early
injury and Bryce Young played some games but didn't start them.
If you look at the six the ten games that
both Bryce Young and Xavier lo Get started and finished,
he had four plus catches and six of them and
he only had it seven times last year. Six of
them came in the ten games that Bryce Young started
and finished. So he actually had a better rapport with
(01:34:42):
Bryce than Dalton and now feeling traded. Yeah, Jalen cocher hurt.
It's Teed McMillan's first game of his career. I have
to imagine Xavier lg Get is the number two receiver
and the only start, the only receiver that will play
for Carolina that has game experience with Bryce Young. Have
to imagine he'll be leaned on a little bit.
Speaker 5 (01:35:02):
Yeah. I like that there, and I'm buying as much
Bryce Young stock as I can get.
Speaker 4 (01:35:06):
I'll keep shouting it right here. The only quarterback lean
Carolina in this game by the way, I will say
they're plus three and a half. I'm not betting it.
I leen Carolina to cover three and a half. I
like it. So I like the Lagette angle. And again
I'll just throw it out there.
Speaker 5 (01:35:17):
Only quarterback in the NFL with ten total touchdowns and
no interceptions over the final three weeks. Let's keep this
momentum going. Bryce Young and Panthers let rive. He had
fifteen total touchdowns. Let me do that. That's a tidbit
to that. Stat's tough when you're on the bench. Well,
I played ten games. I think you play like twelve
or thirteen years.
Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
But yeah, I'm not where Sean is on Bryce Young?
Is Carolina your favorite play this week? Though? Because I
feel like it lines up so much. You were high
on Carolina, You're low on Jacksonville. You love Bryce Young,
you hate Trevor Lawrence. I feel like I so what
my complaint is. I feel like usually in Week one,
I get one of these matchups where it's like, oh,
I'm really high on I'm trying to think of an
(01:35:54):
example this year blank, and they're going against the Broncos,
So I'm really low on. It didn't happen for me
this year, we'ere it lined up with like, oh, this team,
I'm much higher than consensus is playing this team, I'm
much lower than consentus on. So I don't have the
bet that I love this week. It's kind of why
I'm sprinkling across the board. Is that your favorite your
favorite one? Or do we have we talked about your
favorite one? Or is it to come?
Speaker 5 (01:36:13):
I think Jets Okay, I would put ahead of that,
but that's probably number two is Panthers would be my
second favorite bet, both underdog money line bets.
Speaker 4 (01:36:20):
Riding with your guys, I'll respect it, fields in price,
anything on this one for you, Jared, I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:36:26):
Have anything, but I do want to point out that
Ted's line is that sixty five and a half. I
feel like it's kind of high for his first NFL game.
I know he's wide receiver one and I expect him
to have a great season, but that's kind of crazy
to me.
Speaker 4 (01:36:36):
It's sixty five. Somebody's got to catch the ball there. Yeah,
that's the thing. That's kind of why I'm going with loget.
But I wouldn't touch that one with a ten football.
I definitely wouldn't be taking the over that's that's for certain.
This is a quick one Dolphins Colts. I think it's
the worst game of the week. I'm out on both
these teams. I have the Dolphins five wins the Colts
at seven wins. Therefore, I should probably take the Colts,
but I'm not betting Daniel Jones, so I have no
(01:36:58):
take on this game. I don't want to watch. I
think it's destined to be a close game decided by
a field goal. Does so give me overtime plus thirteen
hundred I right half unit on overtime to pick them.
Maybe a close game expected anything on this one.
Speaker 5 (01:37:10):
For you guys, Yeah, the under if you really need
to bet it, I'd probably avoid. And again, I'm not
one that I think even makes the quad box. As
far as the NFL matchups this week.
Speaker 4 (01:37:19):
That Dolphins secondary is so bad, I can't take the under.
Speaker 6 (01:37:21):
The Daniel Jones throwing the rock, though, I'm surprising you'd
like this play a little bit. Dolphins money line and
two over two hundred and forty two and a half yards.
I'm pretty sure two is four and zero on opening
day games, and the Colts have just they're just a mess,
as simple as that, and I think a lot of
people are underrating Dolphins. I don't think they'll be good.
(01:37:42):
I think they'll be a little bit better than expected,
and I expect them to come out with a W
one week one.
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
I like it. No, I don't hate the stance. And
maybe you could say some of the Dolphins issues will
come later in the year because they have no depth
to the roster and Tua could get banged up and
that's really when they get in some trouble and you know.
But yeah, I think it might be just a disaster
season for Miami some for both teams. They could win
this game and still have a disaster season easily. Like
(01:38:09):
the winner of this game I think will probably be
overrated after they win the game that against Twover wins
this game next week. I don't know who they play,
but at four oh five, give give me Courtland Sutton
over four and a half catches. It's plus money.
Speaker 5 (01:38:21):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
Ten of seventeen games last year he had five catches
and nine of the last ten, so down the stretch,
him and bow clearly hooked up and made a connection
that was better than the first half of the year.
So nine to the last ten games five plus catches
plus money. Give me Courtland Sutton.
Speaker 5 (01:38:37):
He's a good player man like Courtland Sutton is a
really solid wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (01:38:41):
I like that.
Speaker 5 (01:38:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
I think Bonix picks up right where he left off that.
Speaker 5 (01:38:44):
I don't think this was unlike the Jayden Daniels where
I think there's a little bit more to be determined.
Like I mean, I guess both guys are on the
older side here the boint being unbelieving in Sean Payton
and Bonis to continue like building off what they showed
last year. He didn't look afraid. They were far better
than I expected. I like that to carry in a
week one.
Speaker 6 (01:39:00):
Yeah, I don't have anything for this play if I
said anything, Uh, Tony Pollard fourteen and a half receiving yards.
I expect Kam Moore to get the ball out quickly
and Pollard is getting that starts and Spears is injured
for the first few weeks. But other than that, I
want to touch it.
Speaker 4 (01:39:15):
Interesting by the way, Sean Bernard being in on Denver.
Who's the other team you're in on that? I hate
this year? There's Cincy. Yeah, it was that I thought
there was another team. It's so disrespectful to be as
in on Denver as you are. They're gonna stink. The
Denver buzz is so annoying to me. But you're not
picking them to win the division, picking them the wind
go to the super Bowl, So you're not as crazy.
(01:39:35):
You're not crazy like the other people. You're just picking
them to go to the playoffs, which they did last year. Yeah,
and they're playing Tennessee. They're probably going to beat up
on the Titans week one. This is when I haven't
bet every other game I've talked about, I have bet already.
This is the only bet I haven't placed because the
lines jumped around so much, and now I can't get
the two and a half that was there a couple
of days ago, And I'm kind of just waiting to
see if it bounces back if McCaffrey's ruled in. I
(01:39:57):
like Seattle. I'm I said year that New England's kind
of the team I'm coming into the year that I've
talked myself out on the last couple of days, the
last couple of days and weeks, I'm talking myself more
in on Seattle. I think they might end up having
the best defensive football this year. That's my official prediction
and people are gonna be like, WHOA, what about this
team that finished top five last year. I've talked about
(01:40:18):
this a lot. Twenty percent. I think it's better if
I use it the other way. I think people don't
get it when I say it the one way. Eighty
percent of top five defenses fail to make the top
ten the next year. There is a lot of regression
and change in the top part of defense every year
because defense is much more schedule based, whereas offense is
much more personnel based. Whereas you look at the top five,
(01:40:39):
top ten and offense every year, you're probably gonna see
Lamar Jackson team, youre probably gonna see Josh Allens Tea,
You're probably gonna see the Homes team. You're probably going
to see the Eagles, You're probably going to see Detroit
Like you're gonna see those top offenses year after year,
kind of repeat as long as they stay healthy. San
Fran before last year, for the last five years before that,
whatever it was, So defense changes more year to year.
(01:41:01):
Seattle a lot of young guys, like there's like five
or six young guys that either rookies or second or
third year guys where it's like if they take the step,
that defense could be special. Like and you have Mike
McDonald's second year there. You look at him throughout his
time in Michigan, Baltimore, his second year at places has
been really, really good. So I like Seattle as a
surprise here. I think Seattle wins out right, Yeah, I
(01:41:22):
like it.
Speaker 5 (01:41:23):
I lean that direction, and I will just say I
think Christian McCaffrey, man, it might.
Speaker 4 (01:41:27):
Be it might be be reps.
Speaker 6 (01:41:29):
Yeah, that might be it. That might be cooked I have.
I also like Seattle in this game. I took the
plus one and a half, not fully convinced they're gonna win,
but I think they'll keep it close. The CMC thing
scares me to death. I mean, it sucks for the guy,
but he just keeps dealing with these injuries and it's
just not going to stop until he retires, which is sad.
Speaker 5 (01:41:48):
By the way, San Francisco should catch some heat for
the handling of this like this, keeping it completely a
secret again, I think it's crazy with Sano.
Speaker 4 (01:41:57):
Yeah, doesn't say anything about the media.
Speaker 5 (01:41:59):
I get it, Like, I understand why they want to
do that, but this is now back to back here.
Like last year, there was no news of him being
remotely injured or any chance he misses Week one. I
guess like a little bit of maybe, and then all
of a sudden he's out for what he'd missed eight
weeks something like that. Like there, I feel like we're
on pace to do the same exact thing this season.
Speaker 4 (01:42:15):
Rapid fire. We got four games left, two minutes thirty
seconds less than each game, which is a shame. This
game is really good Packers Lions. I'm going Packers minus one.
I actually got an early line on this minus one,
that minus two, minus two and a half. I think
now I'm still taking anything under a field goal anything
on this one for you guys.
Speaker 5 (01:42:31):
Yeah, I'm right with the Packers as well. The number
doesn't scare me. I even might play with a little
bit of an alternate line here. I think this is
a statement game for green Bay. The only thing I
got is Michael Parsons sack. I like it.
Speaker 4 (01:42:42):
I'm actually I'm nervous that he's not going to play
that much. But if he plays, I mean that's alway yea.
Speaker 6 (01:42:46):
If he's playing the full game, yeah, get in a sack.
If he's very limited, then you know it's up in there.
Speaker 4 (01:42:51):
Yeah, no, I agree with that. Rams Texans. I know
Sean Bernard, I know where he's going to be here.
I'm going with the Rams. Give me the three points
Rams minus three against Houston.
Speaker 5 (01:43:00):
We'll go head to head here, right with the Houston
Texans here CJ strad the Redemption Tour. I think that
defense is sneaky one that given be one of the
better units in all the NFL this year.
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
They'll have a good defense. Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 6 (01:43:10):
I think it's gonna be a good defensive matchup. If anything,
I would go under forty three and a half. I
think both defenses are going to be in that top
ten in the league at the end of the year.
Speaker 4 (01:43:17):
Interesting. I like that. And Sunday Football Buffalo Baltimore fantastic game. Yes,
I absolutely have no read on who is winning this
game or an over under Josh Allen touchdown plus one
oh five nine to nineteen games last year, fourteen and
nineteen games of the year before. So that's twenty three
of his last thirty eight games he has score a
touchdown in.
Speaker 5 (01:43:36):
Yeah, if you made me make a play right now,
it would be to the over of fifteen and a
half here. But agree, I don't have a full fail
for this one, and we'll see how the days take
me before I make a call.
Speaker 4 (01:43:44):
Give me the Ravens and Lamar Jackson. Monday Night Football,
Rapid Fire Bears Vikings Week one Divisional home Dogs twenty
three and seven against spread since twenty ten. Give me
the Bears. The Bears plus one and a half the Bears.
Speaker 5 (01:43:54):
I'm skeptical of the Bears overall, but I'm still riding
with them because I'm even more skeptical of JJ McCarthy
in the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 6 (01:44:00):
Going with Chicago three oh sweep Chicago Bears. Easy win Bears.
Speaker 4 (01:44:05):
That's gonna do it. For the Tough Coover Radio show,
Uh listen up for three point thirty, We got beef
and Brace coming on for the College Football Live Show
right here on Fox Sports. A Gambler thanks to Jared,
Thanks to Sean Toughcover Country, Let's Ride
