Speaker 3 (01:11):
How we doing Yeah, can't complain Mark Henry Junior.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
I'm feeling pleasantly surprised and refreshed that the Afhillies that
look like the best team in baseball. So that has
wiped some of the sour tastes of sixers basketball out
of my mouth from these final couple weeks of the season.
Here we got Final Four action to talk about today
and plenty else in the sports world, So doing good
can't complain.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, we got a lot of stuff to talk about.
This is actually still, you know, one of my favorite
times of the year up until the NFL Draft, because
it just keeps rolling. You know. You get those first
couple of weekends in March, madness that goes right into
Opening Day. Opening Day goes right into Final Four. If
you're a wrestling guy out there, we're in the middle
(01:50):
of WrestleMania season, Big Night on SmackDown, Last Night, WrestleMania
coming up in a couple of weeks. You got the
NFL Draft coming up right after that. Like it's the
hits keep on coming at this time of the year.
Before we you know, hit a little bit of a
little bit of a drought after that for a little
bit in that, but then you get the NBA playoffs.
(02:11):
The NBA Playoffs are coming around. Actually, we don't hit
a drought. What am I talking about? You get the
NBA Playoffs right after that, and that is absolutely huge.
So we've got a lot of stuff to talk about.
We're gonna talk some NBA awards, we're gonna talk some
phills where we're gonna talk a lot about the final
four obviously, and also, like I just mentioned, the NFL Draft.
(02:31):
Second hour, we've got a great guest coming on from
the Armchair Scouts pod that I do every week with
Dives and our guest Shane Half. We also have Ryan
Reese on there as well. But Shane Half started the
Eagles Pinpull Network. I've been doing a pod chalk talk
with him for years, so he's a one of our
(02:51):
favorite guests to have on the show to talk all
things Eagles, all things NFL, all things specifically NFL Draft.
So that's what we're gonna do in the second hour.
But and we're gonna get to the final four. I
think that's the biggest obviously topic of the day. If
you were to tell me at the beginning of I
Guess twenty twenty five, I'll say, maybe you back it
(03:12):
up a little before then, but.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
All you have to do is.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Sacrifice the sixers, just you know, sacrifice the sixers to
the gods of sports. I guess is what happened or
maybe the devil, I don't know. And what you'll get
Mark specifically to me is an Eagle Super Bowl ring
where Jalen hurts it is the Super Bowl MVP, Notre
Dame having the best season of my lifetime and making
(03:41):
the National Championship and not embarrassing themselves in the National Championship,
and the Phillies are going to win the World Series.
I would have said, sign me up. I'll sign that
contract in blood, like I'll do it right now.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Gotta take that deal.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
You simply have to and me and you. You know,
the Sixers at one time were definitely my number one team.
For you, they're definitely your number one team. But given
everything else that's going on in the sports world, it's
a small price to pay to be having to go
to Tankathon weekly to have the Eagles winning a Super
Bowl and now what I think it's a Phillies team
(04:22):
that I think is set up to win a ring,
and I am I've obviously I feel like I was
in the middle in this offseason coming into the year
where I was telling everybody, yeah, I mean, I wish
they would have done more. But there's absolutely no way
you can't argue that this isn't a top five roster.
I went double negative there, but there was no argument
(04:43):
against it. Being a top five roster and just up
and down line, up rotation, bullpen. You can't say that
they're really out of the top ten in any of
those categories. I'd say, and I think that they're top
one in one of those categories. So I came into
the year tele people, Yeah, this is a good team.
Don't treat them like they stink. Don't act like all
(05:05):
the people coming into you're like, Oh, I think it's
gonna be disappointing year, like maybe closer to five hundred.
This just was never gonna be the case. But I
did understand maybe not coming into this year with the
same level of amped up juice that you've had the
last couple of seasons. You know, you signed Bryce, you
signed Schwarber and Cassidy in the same offseason. You signed
(05:26):
There's been a lot of Trey Turner. There's been a
lot of moves that they've made over this kind of
period that have had us jazzed up coming into the season.
That didn't happen this year, but they still made nice
moves Max cas Max Kepler, Hazos Sozardo, jury's still out
on Jordan Romano start. Yeah, tough stuff, but they did
(05:48):
make some moves and now here we are sitting here.
You know, obviously it's only April fifth, they've only played
seven games. I don't want to I don't want to
overreact there over anything. I came into the year thinking
they were the third best team in baseball, and the
team that I thought was second started Ohn seven. So
(06:09):
I'd say that the Braves starting oh and seven this way,
I really do think opens up things for the Phillies
in a way to kind of take over that division
and dominate it. I've had skepticism on the Mets all
offseason long and kind of that rotation especially, and I
think that we've seen some of those live themselves out
so far here for the Mets. I think the Phillies
(06:31):
are gonna run away with this division in the same
way that they did last season. And then what you
have to deal with is a Dodgers And that was
part of why I understood people maybe not being jazzed up.
This Dodgers team coming into the year looked like one
of the best teams I've ever seen on paper, if
not the best team. What I will say, I'm walking
on eggshells a little bit, whistlim past the graveyard maybe
(06:54):
this is something I regret over the next two days
without Freddie Freeman in the lineup. That line up three
through nine not that scary. Like there's guys tay Oscar solid,
will Smith solid, Tommy Edmond obviously was a playoff hero
last year. Don't know if he's ever had an OPS
above like eight ten. But you go through that line
(07:16):
of three through nine, they are not better than average,
any of those spots. If you go compare the whole MLB,
every fifth hitter in the MLB, they're about average and
all those spots. And you look at this Phillies rotation
and how Jesus Louzardo looked last night. Incredible, How I
can't believe it. And I love the guy. I've always
loved the guy. I bet him to win Cy Young
(07:38):
in twenty twenty when he was on the open. D'es
didn't go well, but I've always believed in the kid's stuff. Sanchez,
another guy I've always believed in, looked incredible. Zach Wheeler,
He's the most consistent man in sports. Tiwan Walker didn't
embarrass himself. Obviously, bad start for NOLA. He has a
chance to go again. Today. You have Ranger not even
(08:00):
you know he's in the bullpen, and oh yeah, the
best pitching prospect in baseball is coming up in two
to three months to come start on this team. So
you look at this rotation up and down, and everybody
can point to the Dodgers' depth all day one. You
look at how Roki Sazaki's looked so far, it's not
like he's torn the cover off the world. I think
(08:21):
that the Phillies have the best rotation in baseball, and
I think if you compare lineup to lineup, yeah, the
Dodgers have them beat in terms of like the top
line guys, your top two guys, I think the Phillies
are a way better three through nine, and maybe even
if you want to include a couple of bench guys
in that, maybe a three through eleven. I think it's
the year and the way that it feels like it's
(08:45):
a little similar to the Eagles, a little bit different,
but like twenty twenty two, you go to the Super
Bowl and you lose in heartbreaking fashion. Twenty twenty three
you have the collapse and then people didn't come People
came into this year with expectations, for sure, but I
mean we threw them away by Week four, where we
didn't think we were going to the Super Bowl whatsoever.
I feel like this could be the year, especially because
(09:07):
this offseason was spent not giving them a lot of attention.
Nobody really having World Series expectations, or maybe they have them,
but nobody's saying World Series or bust or I don't
know what you want to call it or kind of
categorize it as, but it feels like the year to me.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
It's interesting.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I think we've seen this both with like the Phillies
and the Eagles, where the mentality, the mindset starts to
change where you're no longer this like up and coming team,
this underdog story, this threat, this fun loving team that
people want, where it turns into the standard is you're
one of the best teams in the sport that you play.
And we've kind of seen this metamorphosis on both hands here.
I do think it was important for this Phillies team
(09:44):
to get off to the start that they did from
a mentality standpoint that we are still this team to
go just beat the Dodgers straight up in pretty convincing fashion.
If it was not for Remona with a little bit
of blow up in the ninth. We're talking about a
comfortable three nothing victory last night, and Lozarta was incredible
man that slider down in a way, him feeling himself
on the mound right there. Couldn't ask for a better
really a better just start period than what he gave
(10:05):
you there. I'm really encouraged by what I've seen. And
it's when you do like the Dodgers comparison. Obviously, baseball's
a marathon that we have plenty of time until we
can even get to the playoffs and start talking about
these You're not gonna win an arms race from the
standpoint of the depth they have, the amount of arms,
they have, the volume of money that they're handing out
to players. But the bottom line is you can only
put nine guys on the field that you have the
(10:27):
same amount of players, the same amount of guys competing
for the same production. And when you have players like Hey,
Suslessarta that can go eye to iy er, toe to
toe and put that type of performance, this team is
a shot man. And we can't under sell who Bryce
Arper is, who Trey Turner is supposed to be, who
Nick Costianos, Kyle Schwarber, j T Real Mudo looks incredible.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Man.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I've been really encouraged by the version of him.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Obviously a contract year and this is gonna be a
pretty important season for him.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
He looks ready to rise to the occasion.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
I mean throwing two guys out thrown out of Tanny
to close the game last night, and the bat has
looked solid too. So this has been about a dream
of a start to the season, as the Phillies could
ask for. They have another chance to make a statement
today if they can start off taking two of three
against the Dodgers, and that would be my pick today.
I do think that Roki Sasaki is not ready for
the bright lights of Citizens Bank Park at this point
in his MLB career. I don't want to be too
(11:15):
hard on the guy. I think I've seen some of
the reactions be a little bit over top already, as
he's obviously bothered by his slow start to the major leagues.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
But I do think this is a tough place.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
To try and break that streak that he has gotten
off to here, and I do think the Phillies take
care of business. So pretty much a dream start to
the season, and I do think it continues today.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, I'm not betting it this weekend. I decided because
I made it killing the first eight games of the year,
just betting Dodgers lines and being run lines and betting
team tootles. I'm staying away this weekend. I did pretty
well bet in the Phillies the first week. I'm just
gonna watch as a pure fan. Did it last night
and I was like, Okay, this is this is pretty fun.
Not that I didn't know that already, but I'm not
(11:52):
confident enough to bet Hi against this Dodgers team on
a game by game basis. But like I just said,
I think if you compare it on paper, maybe you
go out get someone at the deadline for the lineup,
and I think you could be starting to talk about
where it doesn't look as lopsided as we came into
the year expecting it to look. So a lot to
talk about there. We have a long, long year to
(12:14):
talk about the Phils. Let's switch it over final four
and I'll throw to you first, Sean, where do you
want to start with the final four? What's kind of
jumping out to you? How are you feeling kind of
approaching this final four?
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yes, I think Duke has jumped into the main story
of this final four, and for good reason that Cooper
Flag's incredible. Conkinepol You can go down the list of
the talent that they have on that roster and probably
the most convincing performances of any any of these teams
that we've seen thus far through the tournament.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
But I do think that has led to people under
selling Houston a little bit.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Man.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
This is a team full of grown men, and if
there's one thing that I have a little bit of
concern about about this Duke team, it is the youth
that these are all nineteen years old who have not
had the experience the tournament.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
When you have to go against a guy like LJ.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Cryer, who's twenty three years old and has won a
national championship already in his collegiate career, it is a
little bit of a different stories.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
So it goes in two parts.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
I don't mean to downplay Duke, because they are that
good that if they play their best basketball for the
best team in the country, and I don't think any
of these other three teams are touching it. But I
also don't have the level of confidence that we for
sure get their best brand of basketball. I think Houston's
gonna be disruptive on the things they do defensively. I
think it's gonna be a battle tonight. So seeing the
number bounce around between four and a half five and
a half, I love Houston to cover either one of
(13:22):
those numbers. I do think this game comes right down
to the wire tonight. I also lean towards the under
of one thirty six and a half that I think
is gonna be a defensive imposing matchup. Houston the best
team in the country defensively for a good reason here,
But that's the game that certainly has my attention. The
late slate is primetime for good reason tonight, and I
think it's gonna be an awesome finale.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Yeah, I mean I don't want to.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Oh and Mark pops off a little bit.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Looks like he says in here with stream audio, So
if you want to keep talking Mark, and you can,
but we will get his thoughts on Duke and Houston
once he pops back on here. It is interesting with
like the Duke conversation as a whole, They've done an
incredible job just maintaining the standard. And when you look
around college basketball, Villanov and Mark, do we have you
back in here. Maybe not, So I'll keep it rolling
(14:09):
with the Duke conversation. And it's interesting, like when compared
to all these teams that sort of, you know, have
to pass the baton that you can't keep with this
one coach, this one era forever, when you look at
a team like Duke, they have just kept that progress going.
Look at Villanova, we're seeing the quite opposite end of
the spectrum there. It's a little bit different in those
kind of comparisons. I do think that organization deserves a
(14:29):
ton of credit for keeping things on the right track here,
but it looks like we're continuing to have a little
bit of technical difficulties that Mark Henry Junior is back.
So Mark, I was kind of just talking about, like
Duke maintaining the standard that you go from coach k
to John Shire, like this organization has not missed a
beat here. Really incredible job. And with Villanova specifically, we're
kind of seeing a little bit different end of that
spectrum here.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
But I will toss it back to you. Let you
run with that if you want to take it back
where you want it. How we do it my math?
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yeah, no, I no idea. What happened there, but Duke
shire is He's made Duke likable. Yeah, Like, I think
that's kind of the biggest story with this Duke team.
Flag hops till Yeah, of course flags you know, not
to not to nationalize things, but how many great players
at the top of the world are American at this point?
(15:16):
Like Shake Gills was, Alexander and Jokic, your are running
for an MVP right now, neither are from the country,
and you rank I really would be curious. Out of
the top ten to twenty guys, how many are American
at this point? It's is that half.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
I don't even think it's that high because like Luka, Jokic,
Shay Jannis and being yeah, like that would if those
guys are all fully healthy, that's probably the top five
right there.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
None of them are American.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Yeah, yeah, y'ah, honest, I think you said, yeah, there's
just so many, so many foreign players who have become
the superstars, and you look at the number one picks
and the top couple of picks. Obviously Wenby is coming and.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Not Tatum's probably the best American, I'm straight up like
I and he's probably what six In that conversation, I
would probably say around there, I think.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Tatum's the fourth best player in the world. Off the
top of my head. After I would go I Yoki
Luka Shay, and then Tatum, I think I.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
Would give you a little bit love there. Still he's
I think he's yeah. Yeah, I think he's flown under
the radar this year for how good he has been.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
He's been awesome. Yeah, I think Tatum has been too. Yeah,
there's no wrong answer with that one. For sure. I
think that's the top five. But anyway, I will say, uh, I,
you look at this Duke team and you mentioned it like,
if there is something that's going to get them, it's
the youth. And if there's a team that can take
(16:48):
advantage of that that's still standing, it's Houston. And I've
been thinking about it a lot this week, and I've
been on a roller coaster with Houston, even though I
don't have a future on them, which is unbelievable. I've
been saying they're going to win the title for like
three months, but I've been on a roller coaster with them.
I came into the tournament so confident that that this
(17:09):
Houston team was going to go win the title or
at least comparatively to other years when I picked a
team to win the title. I was more confident this
year in my pick. I don't usually pick the one
seed as my primary pick to I try to be
a little a little different. But I will say this
Houston team has been a little weird. You know, the
(17:29):
second and the second round against Knzaga now Gonzaga eighth
and ken Pom. That's something to something to bring up.
So they got a wild drawl there with the with
the second round and an eight seed. Sweet sixteen was
concerning they They came down to the wire with a
team that I don't think is that couldn't produe. But
(17:51):
then in the Elite eight, they looked like the Houston
team that we thought they'd look like. That was the
Houston Cooters, like those were. That was the team that
has once in regulation this year. That's the team that,
if you're betting plus five and a half tonight, has
never lost this season by more than five points. They've
lost their four games by a combined total of fourteen points,
(18:12):
with three of those coming in overtime. And this is
the thing that I've kind of been thinking about all week.
They remind me of it's funny to say a better
version because this team won the title. But all of
these four teams are better than twenty one of the
last twenty two champions of Ken Palm. Yeah, so most
all of these teams are better than most champions we've seen,
just to be honest, even when they don't win it.
(18:34):
But this Houston team reminds me a lot of twenty
sixteen Villanova in the way that Villanova and Jay Wright,
maybe you even want to say twenty eighteen, that's fine too,
but Jay Wright figured out the kind of the formula
for them was play really slow, use all thirty seconds,
but we're gonna shoot a ton of threes, and we're
(18:55):
gonna make a ton of them, and we're gonna make
all of our free throws. It's a little different. It's
a little tweaked with you ho with Houston, as we're
gonna play even slower in Villanova, and we're gonna make
all of our threes, but we're not gonna take that many,
so it's gonna feel like backbreaking when we make them.
But where they kind of make up for that is
they never turn the ball over top ten and turnovers
(19:16):
allowed on offense and they offensive rebound the heck out
of the ball. Now a concern. The tallest guy on there,
guy who plays is six' eight malawack seven to. Two
is that gonna be a problem, NOW i will say,
People i've seen a lot of The houston people, say
go look at the wingspans on those six to eight,
guys AND i guess that kind of that is why
(19:37):
you're top ten in offensive. Rebounding AND i will, say these,
GUYS i get six, Eight these guys don't play like
they're six.', eight like Go watch. Houston rebound it is
unlike Any team i've ever seen rebound. The basketball it's
like and they everybody talks. About It But kelvin sampson
practices without a, you know without a net or without,
a rim without, a ball whatever you want. To say
(19:58):
all he does is practice rebounding like that's their. Whole
practicing and that's why their team is. So GRITTY and
i think if there's gonna be a team that takes
down a Team, like duke it's going to be, a
gritty veteran team that's been. Here Before they and the
best part of, this storyline the best part of this game, To.
Me houston in the last, six years they've made Six straight.
(20:19):
Sweet sixteens they've Made three. Elite eights in, that time
they've made two. Final fours that number should be three
final fours and should Be four. Elite eates the reason
it's not is because last year They, played duke they
lost fifty four to fifty one After Losing jabal shed
in the first half of. That game they absolutely would
have won that Game With jabal Shed And kelvin sampson
wouldn't have lost To FAT Soo dj burns In the.
(20:40):
Elite eight houston would have been In the final four.
Last SEASON and i think they have the perfect opportunity
for a. Little revenge and, you know this is my
Last thing i'll say on the game before we get
to the. Other ONE and i guess two LAST things i.
Already said houston has not lost a game by. SIX
(21:00):
plus i don't think we get a blowout tonight for
people who are worried about the. Tournament, SUCKING like i
think this game is gonna be awesome coming down to the.
Absolute wire i'm not so sure about the, other game
but we'll get into the reasons. FOR why i it
just feels Poetic that houston kind of finishes the story
(21:22):
and wraps. It up and one, Last thing, I'll, say
well we've, made Jokes Especially sean BRACE when i would
go on with Him and I'd reference bartrvik Instead Of.
Ken pom this is. The ultimate this is me staking
my reputation On bar Torvik Over. Ken pom let me
get The Official ken. Pound number, say no The bar. Torvik.
Number bartrovik the number one team Is The houston cougars of. All,
(21:47):
time wow they're the best Team that bartrvick has. Ever
measured Is This houston. Cougars team they are ninety eight
point four to one in terms of Their efficiency duke
ninety eight point two, To three so they are the
two best teams in. The country Bartrvik thinks houston should
Be Favorite. Ken Pom the duke is plus thirty nine
(22:07):
point six three Net rating houston's plus thirty six point,
Four Two So ken pom thinks should be favored by
a couple. Of Points but i'm staking. My, claim bartrovic you're.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
MY guy i, like IT and i will Note Respectfully
Korean Basketball League ALL Star dj burns he did refer to.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Right there but what's the averaging twelve.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
AND six i have seen some highlights pop across my
feet a couple. Of times he had an interesting Matchup
with kenny lofton a couple of weeks ago, that was,
you know it's a battle the big boys.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Right there so as you don't know, this Reference but
bigie is a wrestler who had to retire because he
had he had a neck and. Neck problem but he
was a. Big guy obviously His. Name's biggie that's. Ha
huh but his whole thing was everybody asked like dream matches,
for wrestlers and most people, say like, Oh shaw michaels,
are like Oh the Rocks and colder and he he
(23:00):
just likes two big wrestlers going in and having a.
Heavyweight clash and his dream match was Him, facing goldberg
who everybody knows like sucks in. The ring it's like
a behind the scenes thing and his whole thing and
it gets used all the time On. Wrestling twitter big
meaty men. Slapping ME That's dj Burns And kenny loten
down in the post In The Korean.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Basketball league, yeah no that absolutely is two of the
biggest media's men to be.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Pressing drink water long wall for a.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Drinking, water yeah, BUT yeah i mean it's gonna be a.
Fun bat i'm in agreement with YOU that i don't
see where where it turns into. A BLOT and i
just Don't think houston's built like that that they're. Gonna
compete they're gonna muck, it up be, imposing defensively And
make duke earn every single Point, there again like The
if duke throws, their fastball plays their. Best basketball it
is a LEVEL that i Don't think houston. Can REACH
(23:47):
but i also think there's a little bit less just
kind of variance in the Way that houston plays on
a game by, Game BASIS so i feel better About
what i'm. Getting there that's definitely the MATCHUP that i
have circled more than more so the. First sense so
do you have any Thoughts on Auburn? And florida do
you want to get.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Into, That yeah i'll let you kick, it OFF because
i actually don't know where you're gonna go with. This one.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
I'm, Curious yeah i've flipped a.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Little bit i've kind of throughout this tournament waited For
that auburn meltdown moment. To Happen that i've had my
doubts about some of the stupid stretches that they tend to,
go through highlighted most Notably By Chad, baker mazarro and
just sort of the decision MAKING that i. Don't love
it really, hasn't happened or at least in the short
noses that, it has hasn't harmed them in a, major
WAY and i have been impressed. With that on the
other side of, Things Here walter clayton has been the
(24:29):
story For this. Florida team, to me that dude is
an absolute killer and the GUY that i kind of
think is capable of straight up Carrying this. Florida team
i've flip flopped on this. Game overall at this, CURRENT
moment i Do think florida takes care of business against the.
JOB done I Think walter clayton's gonna look like the
best player on, the floor and that's not gonna be
easy to do Against this. Auburn team i'm a little
nervous about The The jenne broom. INJURY situation i know
(24:50):
it's been downplayed a bunch that he seems like he's gonna.
Be okay he wasn't even using his arm when he
was out there when he did return to, that GAME
so i kind of find it hard to believe that
he's just one hundred percent. Right there That's something i'll
certainly be keyed on right from opening tip for what
is his status or what is he? Looking like but,
TO me I Think. WALTER clayton i just don't see
a stop For how auburn is going to slow. Him
down and, he's proven then he's ready for the, big
(25:10):
moments the. BRIGHT stage i think that they got, Their scare,
they're awake and it's going to be a locked in
better Performance from florida right.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
From the, start tonight, which scare? That's true, actually yeah back?
To back?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Really, Yeah, NO well i guess there was one, in between,
RIGHT yeah i forget who they played? In, between now Why?
Is maryland They, smoked maryland which is FUNNY because i
thought that was the team that, beat him and then
the other two ended.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Up covered my mind is fourteen and a half there, shout,
out yeah that was.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
A good one, by you that was a good job.
By You, But auburn i'm starting to feel like there's,
a CHANCE and i think this Is how. Beef feels
i'm starting to feel like there's a chance we've just
kind Of disrespected auburn Beyond what i've ever seen for
like a like a four loss team that's Made the,
(25:57):
final four like top five of. The. Tournament, yeah yeah
it feels kind, of crazy just LIKE because i wasn't
the guy who when they were twenty one and one
or twenty five, and, one whatever it, WAS like i
wasn't the guy, saying, like oh this is the best
team in the country running away, with it like they're
so much better. Than everybody and there was people, Saying
THAT like i wasn't necessarily the highest Guy on auburn
(26:18):
when they were, that good but there were people, saying
that and people just threw them away, so quickly like
it WAS and i know they lost three or four
to close, the year but they people were so quick
to get rid of them and kind of quit. On
THEM and i. Get it, Florida's hot duke, Was hot houston,
was hot and they were kind of they became the
boring one seed that wasn't playing their best basketball that
(26:39):
people had seen at the end of, the year where
we'd seen it at the middle of. The year but
they haven't really had a scare at any point of, this,
tournament LIKE and i don't think it's been an. Easy
ROAD like I think creighton was a brutal nine seed.
To Draw and creighton was the team That smoked Louisville and.
AUBURN handle i mean they won, By twelve they were,
(27:01):
up twenty like pretty early in. That. GAME michigan i
don't know How good, michigan is but they had, two bigs,
the tough tough team to. Deal with Great coach auvern
handled the, whole game, you KNOW or i guess they
were down and then they came back and one by.
Their TEAM but i never felt like they were out
of that game, at ALL and i kind OF always
i think I'd be i'd bet they were never not,
(27:22):
favored live would be. My guess but And Then, MICHIGAN
state i felt like they controlled that. WHOLE game I
think florida is only here by the Grace Of walter
clayton being the Clutchest player i've ever seen in. My
life it's so, Problem heely absolutely the problem with THAT
is i don't think they've played a team half as Good.
(27:42):
As AUBURN and i Love The, TEXAS tech i. Really
did but even me who maybe maybe isn't the Highest.
On AUBURN and i think you've pointed out a lot
of Things with auburn that they have. A Lot chad
bikraman's are is. SO frustrating i.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
HATE watching i really hate.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Watching them he's he's cracked that list of guys that
i'd like hate watch and he's on the court OF
like i can't believe he. Did that or he'll throw
like one sloppy pass and it's like this guy man
like everything. He does But so i'm kind of way
too hard on him BECAUSE my i can't help with
my eyes lazing. On him but he's a maddening.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Basketball, PLAYER yeah i cannot stand watching him. At ALL but,
i yeah they're frustrating. At times they definitely have, YOU
know i would say they have a swagger about THEM
that i don't know if any of the other. Teams
have it's a different swagger where when they, get hot
(28:31):
when they. GET rolling i always say this about college,
football TEAMS but i think It's A brandon. Walker team
they feel like a rolling ball. Of chainsaws like it's,
JUST like i don't know how you get in the way.
OF this i don't know who you kind of let
be the one to score and shit like who do
you want to kind of get. THE BALL i i
don't know how you stop this team when, they're HOT
(28:52):
but i think that swagger kind of turns on them
sometimes when things. GO badly i think that it's also
something that can they have. An edge they play with,
AN edge, I GUESS and i think when things, go
wrong they're pretty quick to. Melt, down yes and maybe.
That happens maybe, that happens and, YOU know i will
(29:13):
say for all those times that we feel like we've
seen that they've recovered from all those meltdowns usually and
when came back to one in, the Game what i'd
say about this, GAME is i think it's gonna be. A.
Blowout Wow and i'm not even necessarily saying. By who
it's just with two teams that can score this, many
points two TEAMS that i think YOU can i don't
think either defense Is gonna you're gonna mistake them for being,
(29:36):
you Know. Duker HOUSTON so i think you can score
a lot. Of points obviously the total in the. ONE
fifties i think there's a good chance one of these
teams shoots the lights out and runs away, with this
and there's a good chance that one of. These teams
we've seen it plenty of times in stadiums where they
don't shoot, very well especially in the final four as
opposed To The. National championship it's your first time in
the football stadium with the kind of, the, site lines
(29:57):
with the seats and everything. Like that we've seen that
time and. Time AGAIN and i would guess, For me
I'll take AUBURN because i, just said when this team,
GETS hot i think that they are better than anybody in.
The Country, FOR florida i think what you're saying is in,
the Clutch maybe i'll take them with any team in.
The country But what i'm, SAYING is i think with
a game that's gonna be so many, POINTS scored i
(30:19):
don't know if there's gonna be a clutch either, way
necessarily Is what. I'm Saying so i'm kind of betting
That it's auburn and instead of doing the plus two
and a half for the same REASON that i think
there's gonna be so many points scoring in, THIS game
i think it's gonna be like ninety to eighty five
like for THAT or i guess that's not a blowout,
at ALL so i think it's gonna be like ninety five.
TO eighty i guess it should DO what i. Should
say I'm taking auburn moneyline instead of the two and.
(30:40):
A half maybe that's famous, last WORDS but i think
plus one thirty five is a pretty good number instead
of taking plus two and. A half so THAT'S what
i went, with THERE and i didn't give away. MY
pick I think i kind of did in the. Last
One but houston plus five and a half best bet of.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
The, DAY yeah i like, That there and, it's INTERESTING
like i think this is a little bit more out
of principle for me THAT like i sort of talk Myself,
into AUBURN but i keep just in the back of
my mind BEING like i feel the, Meltdown COMING like
i can't believe it hasn't. Happened Yet in florida is
the best team that they've played to, this point so
this could be the team that. PUSHED it i just
have the utmost Faith In walter clayton to make decisions
(31:14):
and execute down the stretching AWAY that i feel the Opposite,
about auburn which sort of suaded me. This direction but in,
EITHER case i still feel more fat passionately about the
second game in the same way that.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
You did so we're riding With the. Cougars, Today, absolutely
yeah that's.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
We Are. Kelvin samson guys here on. THIS pod i
let me get the exact STAT since i sent it
in the chat the. Other Day but houston from, nineteen
yeah nineteen eighty five to, twenty thirteen zero to four in.
The Tournament the houston basketball Program Under, kelvin samson they
are eighteen and six with the most tournament wins over
(31:50):
the last. Five years if anybody deserves to be crowned
as The short king of, college basketball it is, My Guy.
KELVIN samson i am rooting so Hard For. KELVIN samson
i have never been like A crazy houston guy before this.
Year either i've always respected THEM like i always picked
them to go to. THE elite i Feel like I'M
(32:12):
always i. ALWAYS have I remember I had miami beating them,
that year and that is. What happened miami went and
went and. Beat THEM but i this year feels different,
to Me and i've said it, many times but the
difference With this houston team and The prior, houston teams
this is the best shooting from three teams three shooting.
From three i'm my words are messed up, this. Morning folks.
(32:34):
I'm sorry hopefully the picks are better than. The words
but they're the best three point shooting team in the
country and their three best scorers all shoot above forty
two percent. From three and it just FEELS. Like lj
cryer when he has a. Rough game, Oh yeah Sharp
and news and are right there to pick. It up
so let's take a break on the, other side back
(32:55):
with more on the final four and TALKING about i
think my guy, Over There sean bernard has some opinions
on The defensive player Of the year race in the N,
b A and i gotta TELL you i DON'T so
i want To Hear. Sean bernard we'll see if you
can sway me into into having. His opinion coming up
next On The Tough Cover, radio show.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Spreads totals and all the prop that's.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
In between It's. THE gambler i need some. Tist body
welcome back To The Tough Cover radio show right On.
Ox Sports the gambler streaming Live, on twitter Streaming, on
(33:36):
YouTube Streaming on iHeartRadio with my co host over there
on the Ones To sean Bernard, AND sean i have
a MESSAGE that I wish i didn't have to deliver on. This,
show yeah we used to give an award on. THIS
show I Think i've i've slacked on. IT lately i want.
(33:57):
TO start i want to start picking it back up
and MAKE sure i do it every. Single week we
used to give it a word Called The donkey brains Of,
the week and that's from. The show It's always Sonny
in philadelphia for those who. DON'T know i don't know
if we even still have to. DROP anymore i don't
know if it. Exists ANYMORE but i give The docu
(34:18):
branes Of the week TO whoever i think has the
worst take of the week or says the dumbest thing of.
The WEEK and i don't. LIKE giving i have given
it to myself more than, ANYBODY else i think in
the history of, the AWARDS so i have given it
to myself. A Lot doncu brains of. The week we
ALL know i have. DONKEY brains i am a donkey.
Brained man but SOMEONE who i did not think had
donkey brains a close personal friend, of mine a member
(34:43):
of the, Station Here luke ARCANEY and i hate to
put it up on the screen here for the people
out there who are listening on audio but. On video
i'll read the tweet from At. Arcane luke when are
people going to realize that the city connects a? Good
jerseys how do? We know you're not a donkey?
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Brain man there, It.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Is luke we don't know because you've got. Donkey brains
those are not. Good jerseys they are terrible. Baseball jerseys
we are not a light blue and yellow and wiz cheese.
Yellow team this IS. Not ucla we have a very
laid out color scheme and you even have a second
(35:28):
option if you want to go to that, light blue
you want to go to the light blue with. The baron.
It's beautiful in, my Opinion the phillies have the best
collection of jerseys, in sports NOT. The mlb, in sports
you look at the the light blue. OBVIOUSLY throwbacks i think,
those are in, my opinion my favorite jerseys in all.
(35:49):
The sports those are The top phillies. Jersey too i've
been rock solid on this light Blue throwback Phillies Over Kelly. Green,
Eagles wow i've been consistent. ON that i think they're
the best Jerseys. IN philadelphia i think we're blessed with
really good jerseys in general across, the board Even. The
Flyers so i'm not a fan of orange. And black
(36:11):
it's its. OWN thing i think we have great jerseys Here,
in PHILLY but i Think the phillies take the cake
because you. Have that maybe just as good as the
light blue Is The. Sunday creams the cream jerseys. ARE
beautiful i remember when they first came out back in
kind of the. Utly era i'll never. Forget it they.
Were amazing the pin, stripes. Classic fantastic they give it
(36:32):
to me all. The time and then you got even.
The maroon if you want to go to the pure
maroon jerseys that they pull out every once in, a while.
Good stuff i'm all. For it we don't need a.
Fifth jersey we. Don't need and Even like i'm not
a fan of like the plain grays With, the phillies
but you get it like you wear it. In there
it doesn't. Bother me even the reds doesn't. Bother me but,
(36:54):
come on we're talking about these blue and yellow. City connects.
They're terrible every moment, that happened and it feels like
ten percent less cool after the fact watching it, on
video because you have to watch Those Dumb city connects
jerseys with those brutal. Batting practice hautse That heyesus loizzardo
moment last night walking off the mound getting. Fired up
imagine that in the Light blue you? Kidding me we
(37:16):
get out. Of.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
HERE yeah i don't feel nearly as passionately about this as,
You Did MARK. HENRY j i will lie. TO you
i am a weird. JERSEY guy i do got, to
ask like the blue And yellow eagles jersey's back in.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
The day here your thoughts on those not.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
For me i'm not a fan of when teams drastically
shift their. COLOR scheme i get to a point where
if you turn on the worst but this IS. The,
nba yeah when you have dads wearing like bright, orange
jerseys And the heat had some crazy jerseys that they
don't look Like the heat. At all the netsaid some,
like yeah like if you. Give Me if I'm On
(37:52):
league PASS and i turn on a game without, PAYING
attention i shouldn't have to think for more than ten
seconds about who the two. Teams are someone had a
jersey that looked exactly Like, the pacers but it Wasn't.
The pacers was that? The HEAT maybe i can't remember who,
it WAS but i cannot stand in sports when people are,
just like, oh no we actually wear, you know yellow. And, orange,
(38:13):
NOW yeah i.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
GET that i WILL say i rocked To The shan
jackson yellow and, blue jersey which was fire back in.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
THE day i was that. That, game okay it was
one of My first eagles games in. My, LIFE actually
i was at that game where they scored like fifty
six Against. The Lions kevin curtis had like.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Three touchdowns, But yeah i'm not, a fan not. A,
FAN yeah i don't hate TO take i don't have
an issue with. THE jerseys i get. THE stance i
like the, weird jerseys not not to, the EXTENT and
i agree WITH. THE mba i have an issue with
how regular, it IS and i GUESS the mlb is
probably leaning into overdoing it a. LITTLE bit i think
we are blessed That the phillies have, great jerseys that
a lot of these. Teams do that this is good
that we get to complain about it because we're missing
(38:49):
the old, thing here so all kind of fair game in.
My mind That something i'm fired up about but respect.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
It, takes Yeah that's i'm, Fired Up sean bernard and
SOMETHING that i think you're fired. Up About defensive player Of.
THE year i think there's a there's a bit of
a Push For draymond green happening. Out there i've definitely.
SEEN it.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
I know.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
I Know jay croucher is a pretty GOOD Follow nbc,
sports guy does a lot of Work With, matthew berry
big fancy, football guy but he's a gambling, guy too
and he Gave out DRAYMOND like i guess like a
month ago when HE was i think it was right
After the. Wemby, news YEAH and i think he was
ten to one or fifteen, to one whatever. He was
and there's been an insane surge Here for draymond down.
(39:32):
The Stretch obviously warriors playing really. Good basketball what's your
problem With the draymond push and who do you think
it should be happening for.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
AND stuff, I mean i just the WAY that i
would frame this, out HERE and i guess this isn't
entirely like the full way to look, At IT but
i don't think this cracks like One of draymond's probably
top seven or eight best defensive seasons of, his career
and there have been YEARS where i think there's fair
Gripes That draymond green should be at the front runner
that hasn't got the attention. HE deserted i just don't
think this is one, of them to, perfectly honest, and
like the conversation as a whole obviously shifted in a
(40:04):
major way When the Victor web minyama. Injury happened that
this dude was as like minus two hundred Favorite For
defensive player Of the year at the start of, the
season that he was like minus twelve hundred or something
like that at the time. Of injury it was his
award that you kind of had his name penciled on it,
all year and then it was open for the taking
the second that he was ruled out for. THE season
i kind of expected the full push to be this
(40:24):
Is Now Jared jackson, junior's award that that's gonna be
kind of the way things funnel has not played out
this way now, me, PERSONALLY here i sit here And
Think evan mobley Should Be defensive player Of. The YEAR
and i say that as a guy who's not been
like The Biggest evan mobley guy by. Any means, If
anything i've been skeptical, Of THEM but i Think the
gavaliers deserve a little bit more respect than they've gotten
for being the best team IN the nba almost from
start to finish. This season and the thunder have caught
(40:47):
them from a record perspective and are right there. As
well but In The, EASTERN conference i mean there's been
a gap all season for the Way the caps. Have
played mobley's directly responsible, for that averaging to pull up
his defensive stats here one point six blocks per game
would which is more than he had in either of
the previous. Two seasons he's been Third In defensive player
Of the year are in his career point eight steals
per game is the anchor can defend one through five
(41:08):
shifts out to the, Perimeter THERE and i just think
it's kind of a case of recency bias that Obviously
the warriors are playing their best basketball, right Now the
cavaliers have sort of take their foot off the gas a,
little BIT so i think we've forgotten about, a large
just pretty elite start to, the Season and i'm just
kind of Throwing this. DRAYMOND'S way i do think this
has a lot more to do with like the storyline
in the name than the.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Actual production, THIS year i have a taker about defensive
player Of the year that's different than the surge. You're
seeing i've seen a surge that's offended ME that i
think is worse Than the. Draymond One lou dort is
not the defensive player of, the. Year Folks like i've
seen people try to pull look at these GUYS against
okse and look look at the half of that is
because star players get. These, Teams okay so he's blowing
(41:50):
everybody out and people are sitting fourth quarters because they're
getting blown out as part, Of that but also another
part of it is everyone on the team is good.
At defense like it's not Like lou dort is. This
defense their offense or their defensive rating is worse When
lou dort is on. The Floor alex caruso is the
better defender Than lou dort at, that position played.
Speaker 4 (42:09):
Least minutes but, and like if if we were to
take the games out, of here Like, CHET holmgren i
think would be the next guy in that conversation on
This same. Thunder team and it does go one through
Five That shay Gills as alexander is a guy who straps,
up defensively deserves a lot of credit for that over
to stealing a block. Per game he's elite in. That
category a Guy Like cason willace plays some really high.
Level defense it's that, entire team and like that's why
(42:29):
there as elite two ways that there's some defensive metrics
About this thunder team being one of the best defensive
teams of. All, time well obviously see the barometer when
that comes to the postseason and how this. Directly TRANSLATES
but i do think For lou, dort specifically it's tough
to make a case when you have all these guys,
around you and like, you know this is a more
team oriented it's really hard for perimeter defenders to win it.
In GENERAL and i respect pushing for, your Guy but
(42:51):
i'm in agreement. WITH you i Don't think dort really
has that much of.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
The case it bothered You with marcus smart one it
this would be, Even DUMBER and i don't think he's
GONNA even i don't think. You will he's plus eight
fifty right now From what i'm. Seeing here, but yeah
it's a. Dumb Narrative, any SO any nba races that
are kind of up for debate. Right now what is
up in. The air it SEEMS like mvp. Has, decided
(43:14):
obviously we just Talked About defensive player Of. THE year
i don't even Know if rookie Of the year is
even worth talking. About it is there anything up in
the air? Right, now honestly.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
NOT really i don't THINK the mvp is like a
closed and, shut case and particularly as jokic surge is
and they're always is a Push for jokic to be.
Speaker 3 (43:31):
The guy he's, Been incredible there's no doubt.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
ABOUT it i do think it's Like comfortably shay's award
in my, opinion here and defense is obviously a part
of that conversation How good shay. Has been and it's
a sixteen game lead From the thunder And. The nuggets
this is not just kind, OF actually i think it's
seventeen after last, night there so it's not like these
guys are neck and neck and standings is a little.
Distinguisher there we're talking like almost twenty games difference in
what the standings are between these. Two TEAMS so i
(43:54):
will Throw the rookie Of the. Year conversation do you
have any thoughts on Your Guy cody. Williams lately what's,
he doing like having a historically bad? Rookie, SEASON yeah i. Thought,
so well he's also like eighteen on a. Terrible, team, sure,
sure yeah he's doing his job doing helping this team
(44:15):
directly tank in the way. They desire so he's getting
plenty of run.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
Out. THERE yeah i. Don't know i'm not going to
take anything away. From it he was always. SUPER row
i wouldn't have wanted to play him this year for
sure on any team that any team that would have.
Drafted him What the jazz And the raptors are doing
is LIKE beyond i cannot believe the tank the tanking
(44:38):
conversations that people have when it comes to like When
the sixers tanked or, you know anything that people want,
to say nobody is. Talking About How, Yaka Pertle emanuel QUICKLY.
And rj barrett are playing every OTHER game.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
Lori Market In, walker kessler like all of These guys,
i've seen and like the just pulling the starters with
like five minutes left in the game or in the.
SECOND half i don't remember that ever, happening before.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Do you this is the most Blatant tanking i've, ever
Seen and i'd have more respect for it if it
was coming from the team at the top of the
board or the team that was trying to get the
number one chance like these. Teams ARE we're, i mean
the sixers are in the, same mix but we're jockeying
for fourth and fifth. And SIXTH that i guess you
tall is. Number one but it's it is an, absolute
(45:24):
travesty Especially the raptors more than any of these. Other
teams What the raptors are doing with and you go
out and you Trade For brandon ingram at, the deadline
you cannot then make the decision to like grossly tank
in the worst way that we've ever SEEN an nba,
team do like shut your players down for the year
like a. Normal team like that's what. You do, you,
(45:46):
say oh there's a made up injury or oh he's,
banged up or not going to play them the point
of playing them every. Other game i'm especially mad about
this being in a fantasy basketball championship, right now but
it is some of the the wildest middle finger to
like Competition that i've.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
Ever seen by The Way brandon ingram has been out
for like, five months with a sprained ankle at, This
point SO like i don't know the pulling players, mid
GAME like I watched i've told this story a couple of,
times now But Like laurie MARKET and i watched the
game a couple weeks, ago now scored sixteen points in
the first half and then they just didn't play on
in the, second half just. Sat There walker kessler was
(46:26):
dressed in UNIFORM a dnp coach's decision. That game, it's
like this is crazy Stuff that i've never. SEEN before
i don't ever remember teams taking things to. This length
so for all the investigations that have gone In the
sixers organization for guys with legitimate injuries, this year maybe
take another gander, at THAT and i get like the
exact what triggers the investigation is because these are all,
(46:46):
star guys like when we Talking About Paul GEORGE joel
maxi that there are different standards that are. Set there,
but like if you're trying to clean up, THE league
i do think it's at an all Time bad from a,
tanking perspective it feels like every, single night one third
of the team aren't trying to win. Their game and
when you get to that level which we're at, right
now that is a little harmful from an optics and league.
Perspective There so i've been a pro tank guy, in
(47:07):
GENERAL and i still feel that teams have the right
to do that if they. Want to but it is
MESSIER than i feel like it's ever been in a
more serious Topic than i've kind of ever taken.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
It, as YEAH it's i don't really care about tanking as,
well usually BUT it's i and you Said The brandon.
AINGER thing i respect that a lot more than these
healthy players just like sitting every other game quickly inane.
Them out it's crazy And, QUICK yeah i don't even
KNOW if i said quickly but quickly Pertol. UR ja
I think barnes is on the. Same thing it's. IT'S

Speaker 1 (48:27):
You don't, know me still.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
The same welcome back To The Tough Cover radio show
right Here On. Fox Sports. TO gambler i just. SAW
this i actually didn't know if that you can tied the. Gold,
record yeah that's probably BAD that i didn't. KNOW that i.
DON'T know i guess it happened. Last.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
Night Yeah and i'm not a hockey, guy EITHER but
i gotta give him.
Speaker 4 (48:47):
Props here he had a chance to break it on an,
open net decided he Didn't want he wanted to do
it the. Right way so kind of props.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
To THAT oh i kind of.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
Hate that you hate that he.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Should have done it at home though now they're going on.
The road that they should sit him on. The road in,
My opinion why why go do It In long island Against?
The islanders come? Back home they Play the Hurricanes. On, Thursday,
YEAH well i guess they're Putting the sunday GAME on
tt Now. For washington. Pretty cool ovechkin still. Doing it
(49:18):
it's Crazy like Lebron and novechkin kind of, PRETTY parallel
i guess because he's, thirty nine so he's probably been
in the league close to as Long as lebron has
and still. Killing it they're the best team in, their division.
SO crazy i will announce what team when we get
TO the nhl PLAYOFFS that i will be throwing my playoff.
(49:41):
ALLEGIANCES behind i have nailed the Champion Before. Marky, POTTS
yeah i Had the blues fifteen. To one the one
year we'll have. TO see i did not realize That
the flyers were the worst team in their. DIVISION though
i thought they were like close to the playoffs but
not gonna. Make it that's. U, uh yeah. You know
(50:02):
they shouldn't have went against me last YEAR when i,
cursed them and ever since has has been Great.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
And torts was fired for. A reason i'll add that.
In there so better days ahead For the. Flyers organization,
but yeah it's been a tough one to. See them
MAYBE if i, UNCURSED them i haven't thought like base gut.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
OUT here. I, don't Yeah the flyers? Are cursed and
then WHO did i curse the other day? By Accident
anthony edwards the old his ANKLE after I was i
was talking. Craft, about yeah not a not a, Good Guy.
Anthony owards That's all, i'll Say and i'll leave it.
At THAT But nfl?
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Draft video what.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Did YOU say i send? A video the First thing
i'll say in REGARDS The, Nfl draft i'll, ask You
because i'm in, The bubble i'm kind, of uh it's
always going to be a big deal to me comparatively to?
Most years IS This nfl draft a? Big deal? Small?
Potatoes like where does it kind of line up with
(50:58):
most years?
Speaker 4 (50:59):
For, You so, i'll say for, me personally some of
my interests is pretty linearly directed to Where the eagles
are picking as far as HOW invested. I get so
we do, have That and i'll point out that they
do have the last pick in the first round because
they happen to Win A super bowl this year in
case anyone forgot. That THERE but, i mean as far
as the draft as, A whole i'm intrigued by Both.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Cam Ward And.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
SHUDER sanders i do think That the colorado guys have
brought a couple eyeballs or questions to me as far
as what are these guys? As prospects how does it?
TRANSFER there i do think it's a little light on
like the big time names. Beyond That abdul carter are
obviously another name in the, mix there and there's guys in,
this draft, No doubt but in the wide perspective or
the rankings of my, TOP drafts i don't think this
(51:38):
one is too close to my top as far as
interest or HOW invested i am at this.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
Current, POINT yeah i mean last year just had so.
Many quarterbacks eagles have, Been hot like, you Said the
eagles have been higher, picks recently or maybe even two
picks in some of those years in the. First round
so it's definitely less interesting From an, eagles perspective especially
coming up Of A, super bowl even without just having thirty,
Two picks like we Lost A super BOWL and i
(52:04):
think we had a top fifteen pick that year in twenty.
Twenty three but LAST year i had so many quarterbacks
A couple there's been so many years the last couple
of YEARS that i had so many receivers with kind
of a lack of those receivers a real lack of
quarterbacks outside of the two. YOU mentioned i do think
it's probably getting the least Mainstream coverage i've seen in
(52:26):
a couple of Years since, i'd say Like The malik
willis draft whenever that was when he was kind of
the one of the leading quarterbacks of a. Draft class,
AND yeah i don't know if that. MEANS anything i
don't know if, it matters like, right now it doesn't
mean that the draft's worse. Or. BETTER probably i usually
am the guy who complains when people call it a,
(52:48):
bad DRAFT and i think at the start of, THIS process, i,
thought bad this is a really. Bad draft i've. Come
around there's certain positions that are, really strong in certain
positions that are. REALLY weak i, think overall it's a below.
AVERAGE draft i don't think it's as BAD as. I
thought i don't think it's as good as some people
are acting like it is the top with some of the.
(53:10):
Non QUARTERBACKS but i think that you have. A top
i have six GUYS that i think are, Pretty SPECIAL
so i think for there to be SIX guys i
like that much can't be that bad of. A draft
but let's just kick. It off we're gonna do like
a like kind of just like a rapid fire of
questions Or anything sean wants to bring up. To me
(53:32):
because We've got shane haff coming on at, Twelve Thirty
i'm i'm gonna pick his brain in the SAME way
i wanted to get some takes off, as WELL and
i didn't know how else to.
Speaker 3 (53:39):
Do, it yeah so let's. Do it i'll fire away.
With you i'll start off with the.
Speaker 4 (53:42):
Quarterback conversation so it does feel Like cam ward has
kind of cemented himself as the number, one guy and
it feels that there's been a bit more of a
GAP than i expected built up Between cam Ward And
shooder sanders is the number. TWO guy i know you've
been a little critical of the entire quarterback class in this,
draft already but what is that kind of gap look like?
From shit and what kind of teams do you kind
of could still see him landing on when we talked
(54:03):
about actual.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
Draft, night yeah. It's Interesting so I'm a. SHUDER guy
I like shadur More, than WARD but i don't have a.
BIG gap i have should twenty eighth overall on. MY
list i have him as a second. Round grade he's
my second highest rated. Second rounder AND then i Have
cam ward of, thirty six who is also a pretty
(54:26):
high second round grade that's actually went up a. LITTLE
bit i had him at like forty five. FORTY six
i bumped him up above some POSITIONS where i think
that there's just a lot more players in that position
available in. The draft so it kind Of helped ward
out with. Position SCARCITY but, I mean ward's going One.
TO tennessee i think they're going to live to. REGRET
it i think that's going to be something where they
(54:47):
look back and You See abdul Carter And ashton gente
and McMillan And will Johnson Or travis Hunter Or, james
pearce whoever you want, To, SAY like i think a
couple of those guys are going.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
To Be.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
Pro bowl Or all pro types that you can really.
Build AROUND but i, get, it like you're a team without,
a quarterback you have the number. One pick if you Like,
cam ward you kind of have to. Pick him I'M
just i wouldn't want to be the one making my
bet on kind of MY entire gm tenure On cam
(55:23):
woard because if this, doesn't WORK this gm is going to.
Be gone he's facing his entire job now In. Cam
wharton that's his that's. His choice you Mentioned, with shador
where does, it fit and that's kind of the million.
DOLLAR question i don't know if it's out there. Right
now i'm starting to think he might go in the. Second,
(55:44):
ROUND wow i. DON'T know i just don't know where
he's getting PICKED because i so let's just. GO through
i Don't think cleveland's taking him. At too seems like
that's going To Be. ABDUL carter i don't Think the
giants are taking him, at three especially after you bring in.
Two veterans FEELS like i don't think you're going to
(56:04):
invest that much in a position, Three, WAYS like i
don't think they're taking a quarterback in the first three rounds,
necessarily SO and i also think like if You're, brianon
dable If You're, joe shane you're probably not wanting to
trust your final kind of year on the hot seat
on a rookie who you probably don't even love. That much,
(56:26):
You Know pat pats don't, Need it jags don't. Need
it and then it comes down to like it's probably
going to be one OF if i had to guess,
right Now, The raiders Jets or saints in the, second
round that would be. MY guess i don't know if
those are. Good fits i'd say That the raiders are
(56:46):
probably the. Best fit if you're should you probably want
to go To. The raiders and does seem like there
is a relationship with the Organization With, dion now part
of That Was antonio pierce and he's not, there now
so you under if that's. STILL there i do think
my Exact Comp foreshodoor Sanders Is, Geno smith so why
(57:07):
not go Sit Behind, geno smith who's only on a
two year deal there he can kind of, be like
you know Your the vegas is focusing so much on.
RIGHT now i think trying to. Get competitive that's how
you sign a seventy plus year old coach and you've
trade for a veteran Quarterback. In GINO but i it
(57:28):
could be their way of kind of hedging for, the
future like this is our guy potentially in a couple,
of years a little bit Like the falcons. LAST year
I guess i don't think that's happening, at, SIX though
i think that would have to be later in. THE
draft i think they're TAKING genty i Think the raiders
with the. Gent spot so my guess is one of
those teams in the SECOND round i don't like doesn't
(57:49):
Make the jets shouldn't pick. A Quarterback the jets should
roll with fields and see what they. Have here one.
Hundred percent saints make a lot. OF sense, i actually
let me make sure That the saints have that. Second
rounder this isn't, great radio but let me and.
Speaker 4 (58:04):
Just to play a little bit to a, little bit
a little Bit of devil's, advocate here like totally get
your point and agree with. ALL this i also think
there's the mindset of teams potentially buying INTO if i
do take a, young quarterback it kind of extends my
shelf Life, AS.
Speaker 3 (58:17):
Yeah i get what, you're saying like For the giants
specifically in.
Speaker 4 (58:20):
The spot if you're then talking ABOUT like i Can,
TRY jamis i Can, try russell and then we have
this guy in the back BURNER that i can go
to as sort of the long. Term game, so like
certainly you can look at this in either, direction THERE
but I, The giants i'm not taking out of, the
table taking off the table for.
Speaker 3 (58:34):
Sort of that.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Logic, THERE yeah i just don't think you'd sign two
guys sure if that, Was it and it does Seem
like Stable and shane are absolutely only keeping their job
if they get to, The PLAYOFFS like i don't even
know if it would matter IF they i get your,
(58:55):
point THOUGH and I think i generally agree, With that
like that would BE what i would say to gms
and head coaches that are on the, hot seat is
go draft the first. ROUND quarterback i think the scenario
might just be too dire, For them, And honestly Jameis
and russ aren't going to say, It EITHER so i
don't KNOW what i would DO if i. Was then
but there's just a lack of teams meeting A quarterback
(59:17):
i think at, this Point, like Chicago no san Fran,
no Dallas, no Miami no indy, is interesting but the
same kind of Situation As, New york like you have,
two guys like you Still have richardson there and you
haven Or, not donald You Have daniel jones who you've,
brought in and like it would feel weird to bring
(59:39):
in a third guy like you Just. Drafted richardson he's
making a good amount. Of money you Just, Paid JONES
like I just i don't see the like the. Obvious
Fit maybe pittsburgh if you want To say pittsburgh at.
Speaker 3 (59:53):
Twenty, One, CHARGERS.
Speaker 4 (59:57):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (59:57):
I didn't i didn't get what you were DOING until
i you caught me off. GUARD there i was thinking
that you can't do me. Like That the, chargers though.
Absolutely not But the steelers at twenty one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
It's worth taking a. Shout ON so i get That.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
The justin herbert Feud With sean bernard. HAS breached i
don't know what's a bit and what's. Not anymore that's
that's the trouble Behind The Cheuan Bernard. Justin herbert, but
really like usually there's one team in the back half
of the top ten or, bottom ten bottom twelve picks
where you're like, old quarterback like maybe they TAKE the
(01:00:34):
i don't know who, that Is Like, Jalen, Hurts Mahomes,
Josh Allen, Jaydon daniels Jared. Goff lamar Maybe. The rams that'd.
Be interesting it would. BE interesting, i mean if you're
please please kept me To, the rams that would be incredible.
FOR you i actually think like he'd be perfect there
(01:00:56):
in like a, timing offense like he has some golf
to him in terms of like the accuracy and kind
of controlling the POCKET LIKE i i do think that's.
THAT'S interesting I hadn't i hadn't thought. ABOUT that i
Don't think minnesota can do IT. TO jj i don't
think you can go and take a guy like Right
After Jordan, Love No justin herbert no to, shall, know
(01:01:20):
like there's JUST not i think the INTERESTING spot i
hadn't really thought of until we talked about It our
pittsburgh And. The rams.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
Okay interesting let me shift here his new, position HERE
so i know you've been pretty open about gent is
the best running back prospect that you've maybe ever SCOUTED
in a guy that deserves every bit of, THE praise
a guy that has popped on my RADAR that i
was not familiar with. The Game Oh, marion hampton the
running back Out Of.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
North.
Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
CAROLINA there i was listening to a podcast on the
way into the station today talking about how they even
had him Ranked above gen.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
T here who is? This dude WHAT am? I missing
what does the skill set talk to me?
Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
ABOUT him i Love A marion hampton GUY who i
have as a first round grade as a, running back which,
FOR ME i i think you can on one hand
over the last, four years how many first Round grades
i've given out to. RUNNING backs i Think It's, bijon
gibbs gent. AND him i Don't think i've. Done it
i'd have to look at, it DEEPER but i think
those over the last four or five years would be the.
(01:02:12):
ONLY ones i think we'll get to genty in. A
Second but hampton is, a really really, good prospect one of.
The better definitely like a top five running back prospect
of the last. Half decade AND something i like. About
him He Had drake mett his junior year in twenty.
Twenty three he was kind of the side piece to
(01:02:32):
the passing offense a. Little bit he's still got two
hundred and fifty four Rush, at tamps fifteen, hundred yards,
fifteen touchdowns twenty, nine catches almost. Like identical the, next
year got, more cash got, more carries got, more catches
same yards, per carry same yards per catch. From him
so he went from being kind of like a part
of an awesome offense to being the lynch pin the,
(01:02:54):
entire offense and the efficiency stayed the exact same, last
YEAR and i think. That's important zo point Sixty seven
relative athletic scorer so he's out of nineteen hundred and
thirty five running backs who have ever tested At, the
combine he is the sixty fourth best athlete of, all
time which is an incredible. Number there six foot two
twenty one has all the size you'd want from a
(01:03:14):
background four to, four six really really good agility Drills
Like marion hampton is an. Absolute Stud ashton genty. Is Generational,
ashton genty's in, my opinion the best running Back prospect
i've ever seen in. MY life i think he Compares To,
Ledanian TOMLINSON like i don't usually throw comps around like that,
(01:03:37):
about GUYS but I Think ashton genty is. That SPECIAL
and i know people are Gonna throw saquon at me as,
a prospect and he's the absolute answer of what you'd
say Other, than GENTY what i will Say is genty
was much more Productive than saquon. In College shee quon
probably more of a freak athletically Than. J definitely i
(01:03:57):
don't KNOW why, i said probably definitely more of a
freak athletically than gent was and even. Still IS but
i think you look at that Production that genty had
and it's hard to even fathom how insane he was
This year's it was an absolute highway robbery that a
guy with three hundred and seventy, five carries two five
hundred ninety, five yards twenty, nine touchdowns and twenty three
(01:04:19):
catches did not Win. The heisman but that's a conversation
for the. Other day he was also fantastic in his two.
Years previous it wasn't just twenty. Twenty four if you
combine twenty twenty two and twenty, twenty three he would
have had three hundred seventy, three carries one hundred and
sixty five yards and twenty one touchdowns with sixty, one
(01:04:39):
catches as opposed to the three to seventy five for
twenty five, ninety five twenty nine touchdowns and twenty. Three
catches he had way more catches his first, two years
only two, less carries only slightly, less efficient and almost as.
Many touchdowns like this is a kid who has been
special and just finally got the enough touches in one
season to be as special as. He WAS like i love,
(01:05:00):
both guys but gents's on a.
Speaker 4 (01:05:02):
Different, planet okay, interesting there and now like a bit
of a, wider question if you had to pick a
guy who is lower on the consensus draft boards that you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Don't understand who's the number one guy that pops, To mind.
Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
I'm biased HERE and i hate to go To A
notre dame guy for, this answer but, for me it
absolutely has To Be benjamin Morrison From, notre dame who
is a corner who missed the second half of last
year and that's the only reason. He's fallen he was
being projected in the. Top ten he's now sitting at
sixty six on PFF's. Big board he, to me has
(01:05:38):
every single THING that i would want in. A cornerback
he's got, long arms he's. Not sure he is an
insanely high forced and completion percent rate at twenty point
five percent over the past. Two years he's, so smart
he's got great. Ball skills he's been playing since He
was he had six picks in twenty, twenty two for
(01:06:00):
for what, it's worth three picks in, last year so
nine picks in his. College career he had zero, this
year and part of that was because in the six games,
he played ain't nobody was Throwing At benjamin morrison. This
year he only allowed. Twelve receptions in those, six games
he allowed two catches per game only in those six
games one hundred and twenty five yards total in those.
Six games there is Nothing About bendamin morrison's tape from
(01:06:24):
this season that caused him. To drop the only reason
he dropped is because he had an injury to close.
The season he had. Hip surgery seems like everybody's saying
he's absolutely fine and will be ready.
Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
TO go.
Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
I Love.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Benjamin marrison it was a pleasure watching Him At notre
dame and it's a shame that he wasn't there for
the end in the final, Run, there.
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
Yeah one hundred. Percent there and how about the other
side of. That question there a guy who is A
consensus near the top of. Draft board there's solidified first
round picks that you do not see the Vision On.
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
Schamars Stewart FROM texas A. And m he's actually only
twenty seven on PFF's, big board but he's a lot
of top, ten buzz top. Twenty buzz and Here's something,
i'll say don't be surprised That the jags take him.
AT five i know It's Not trent. Balky anymore they
are obsessed, with ATHLETICISM and i. AM too i love
the relative. ATHLETICS scores I reference ras charts as much,
(01:07:15):
as anybody but it can't be the. Only thing you
have to have some level of football skill to go with.
That athleticism and over the last, Three Years shamar stewart
has six. TOTAL sacks i think that THAT'S all i need,
to say two sacks in. Each year he did go
up this year in terms of his ability to hurry.
(01:07:38):
The quarterback he's not a bad, run defender but. He
was his past rush win raid is. Not impressive his
run stop raid is. BELOW average i don't get it
outside of just looking, at Him And danny jeremiah tweeted.
It out At the combine he had the exact same
combine Performance To. Miles garrett the difference with That Is
miles garrett didn't have a college season with less than
(01:07:58):
each eight and a half Sacks And shamar stewart had
six and. Three YEARS so i kind of resent the. Comparison, there,
yeah no that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:06):
Is Fair miles garrett not quite a GUY that i
think deserves a wide range of names attached.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
To him from a player.
Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
Comparison standpoint they're pretty unique character as far as production
and you know the skill set his. Body type all
these kind of things now to bring it back a
little bit to the, quarterback conversation so it does feel
there's a pretty. Significant Gap jackson dart seems to be.
The consensus like, third guy there is there any quarterbacks
sort of in the same mix that could even be
in played for a first round? Pick there and how
high on that list do You think?
Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
Dart is? DART'S not I mean I have dark as
the second round grade. As, WELL actually I like i
have him a high third. ROUND grade i am a
fifty five on. My List so schdor, Twenty eight camboord thirty,
six overall And then dark. Fifty five there's not that much.
Separating him and you, know what it's hard to Watch
bo knicks have the season he had last year and
(01:08:52):
not Think that dark could do. Something. Similar now the
problem with, that Is Is jackson dark gonna go to
a situation Like bo nicks did where, he has in,
my opinion the second best offensive mind of my lifetime mentoring,
him There In. Sean payton I'm A sean. PAYTON guy
I Think sean Payton put bonix in all the situations,
(01:09:12):
to SUCCEED and I Think jackson dart would need, the,
same PROBABLY but i think he's probably he could get
drafted and he'll be one of the thirty five to forty,
best quarterbacks like a fringe. Starter attack maybe at that
point he does have a lot, of experience. SOME mobility
i Could see dark turning into a fine middle of the.
Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
Road, starter, OKAY yeah i think that's. Pretty fair there
kind of a strange college career. FOR him i had
higher expectations than it ultimately, played out but nonetheless. Still
solid there is there a specific position group that you
think is the strongest in this.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
Draft class.
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
It's there's a couple that you could, argue for and
it depends on if we're going to say at the
top or, depth wise SOMETHING THAT i i think maybe
has a little less depth beyond the top ten in,
the POSITION but i think has a lot of really.
Good players i'll. SAY corner i think it's a great.
Corner draft my number one overall player in the entire
(01:10:09):
draft is a corner And It's. Will johnson It's Not.
TRAVIS hunter I Love. WILL johnson i think he has
every Bit of patrick's, Certain like AND again i don't
like making those comps all. THAT often i generally only
do it with my blue. Chip Guys And. WILL johnson
i watch HIM and i don't know how he's not
going to be a top twenty corner IN. THE nfl
i just think that there's such a high floor for
(01:10:31):
this guy and what he Did at michigan each year
a year in and. YEAR out i think he's got the.
BALL skills i think he's got, the length he's got
the dog mentality can go and make. The Tackles Like
will johnson just HAS everything i would want in a.
Cornerback prospect he's one of the Best corners i've. Ever
Evaluated BENJAMIN marrison i just talked. About it HE'S my.
CB three i have him, eleven OVERALL so i. Love
(01:10:51):
him we don't have to talk too Much About. Travis
hunter everybody knows just How Good travis. Hunter Is and
i'm a little lower on him than consensus having him at.
Six overall still have him as a blue. Chip guy still,
think like if you're one of those teams at the
top and you, TAKE them i totally, get it especially
if you think you can use them both ways and
then kind of group. Them together three guys who all
got first. Round grades, for ME so i had six
(01:11:13):
corners with first round grades out of only twenty six,
players overall and six of them. Are Corners, darian porter
who's probably THE player i fell in love with the
most over this. Draft process six to four receiver turned
corner Out of Ohio Or iowa state special. SPECIAL athlete
i think he's got great. Ball skills three picks. Last Year,
(01:11:33):
maxwell harriston probably the fastest player in the Class. From
kentucky he's my. CORNERBACK five i have him as a first.
ROUND grade I Then, jedai baron who's Kind Of brian
branch from a couple of, years ago where probably be,
a safety probably be a, nickel corner maybe you could
stick it. Outside corner just super super versatile defensive back Out.
Of texas so all six of, those guys and that's
(01:11:55):
without mentioning, you know a good amount of other GUYS
who i think are pretty Solid Either shavon revel Out
Of John Jansen's Fighting East. CAROLINA pirates i have him
as a second round, prospect there and YOU know i could.
Go deeper one last Name If, noel williams a Guy
who i've kind of fallen in love with as, A
day he's probably gonna Go on. DAY three i have
(01:12:16):
him great As a day two guy Out. OF california
i like him. A lot Trey, amos Ole miss, but
yeah cornerback is probably where i'd go there with.
Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
That, Answer, okay yeah that is a lot of depth
of a lot of high.
Speaker 4 (01:12:26):
Talent there now to Make it eagles, specific here they're
sitting at thirty two at the, draft pick have seemingly
a million other draft picks from all the conditional stuff
that has come. Over here who are some guys that
you Think the eagles should have their eyes on and
be looking to target in.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
This, draft yeah and this is definitely something we'll hit
On with Shane because i'm curious if he has a
SIMILAR answer. I had i'm actually gonna stick to. FIVE
names i have eight names on, my List but i'll
go strictly. Defensive line i'll even take out the safeties off,
the board and maybe There are day. Two Targets james
pierce Out of tennessee is an edge RUSHER who I
(01:12:58):
think i have him, third OALL so i have him
as a truly blue chip top of, the line should
go top. Three guy doesn't seem like he's going to
there's a lot of character concerns off. The field some
big don Down the knoxville and get it. FIGURED out
i think he'd look pretty darn Good In Eagles midnight
green and Let's Bring. Shane halfen we have our guest
who just. Popped on it's Some Beautiful kelly, green there
(01:13:20):
my co host over on. Schalked off my coast over
On The, armchair scouts the founder Of the Eagles Pin,
full network, My Guy. Shane half you can Follow on
Twitter at SHANE.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
Half.
Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
Nfl shane how are we doing on This. Fine saturday i'm.
Doing good how are you? Guys doing we're. Doing good
that's my coast, Over There. SEAN bernard i think you've
been on the Show with. Sean Before, But sean I'll
let sean kind of ask you the question that he just.
Asked ME before i give my, Full answer i'll kick
you off. On.
Speaker 4 (01:13:47):
It, Yeah, Sure, so shane thanks for. Popping on always
good to chat with you. And me mark Kind of
i'm getting my deep dive into the draft. Right now asking.
My questions he's kind of filling, me up catching me
up to SPEED as i started playing the. Process here
so the QUESTION that i just laid Out for mark
was looking at this From an. Eagles, perspective obviously the
last pick of the, first round which tends to happen
when you Win A. Super bowl there who are some
guys that we should have our eyes on From an eagles, Draft, perspective.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Yeah, you know we can put our eye.
Speaker 5 (01:14:14):
On GUYS and i just, feel like what's inevitably gonna
happen is we're gonna watch the draft for three and
a half Hours on thursday night and pick thirty two
is gonna, come up and we're, gonna, think, yeah like
there's this guy on.
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
The board we, really like let's make. THE pick i
can go to.
Speaker 5 (01:14:30):
Bed happy i'm gonna be really tired at, work tomorrow
and Then the eagles are gonna trade out just like
they did in, twenty eighteen and we're just gonna have
to wait another twenty four hours for. The draft but,
all that all, that ASIDE because i think that's very
much on. The table, You know i'm very big on
approaching the draft without like obvious needs that you, must
(01:14:53):
FILL and i Think the eagles do a really good job.
OF that, i mean you look at like deficiencies in the, edge.
Rusher rotation they go sign guys Like josh Ucha And,
azizo jalari and you look at maybe concerns about your,
cornerback room and they go and They Sign, Adria jackson
and none of these are big deals that preclude them
(01:15:14):
from making selections there in the. First round but it
doesn't make you force around or square peg into a,
round HOLE which I guess i guess a round peg
would go into a, square hole but emphasizing. Was, right
anyways you don't have to, Do that AND so i
do like that a few GUYS that i really like
at the back end of the. FIRST round, i Mean
(01:15:35):
If derek Harmon Or walter nolan, ARE there i think
they make a lot of sense For the eagles because,
you have, you Know In, jalen carter you have a
guy that's a force multiplier on, the middle and so,
you know if you go and Draft A derek Harmon Or,
walter nolan you know they're good players on, their own
(01:15:57):
but you can sort of multiply their value in the
fact that they're consistently going to get easier matchups because
they line up Across From. Jalen carter AND so i
do think like those two guys would make a lot
of sense if either one of them is on, the board.
Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
If you want to go To Like.
Speaker 5 (01:16:14):
ED drusher i know there's been things About Like james
pierce and maybe, some Concerns and i'm not going to
really wait. Into that i'll just say if he, checks
out if those things for him check out some.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Real quick not not to cull. You Off something SHANE
and i always like to say is we're, not doctors we're,
Not investigators like we're just talking ball like. We were.
You know that's That's For big don to.
Speaker 5 (01:16:36):
Figure, out yeah which is wonderful because it allows me
to sit here, and, Say Hey james pierce is a,
great Player but i'm not putting my job on the
line if you draft him and it doesn't work out
for off. Field THINGS but, i mean if it, checks
out like he would be a slam. Dunk, pick also
like if that all, checks out he probably isn't there at.
Thirty two but you never know what teams are willing
(01:16:57):
to take take on, Risk wise so, you KNOW trenches
i think are very much in play For, the eagles
especially on the. Defensive side on the, OFFENSIVE side i
don't necessarily love an offensive lineman in the, first ROUND
because i don't think drafting an interior player in the
first round is. Good VALUE and i just never liked the, idea,
(01:17:20):
of like let's draft a right tackle of the future
and we'll play him at right guard, for now because
inevitably that road leads one of, two places and that's
that he's really good at. Right guard and so two
years down the roads, you, say well he's been really
good at, right guard let's not move him out, to
tackle and then you essentially effectively drafted a right guard
(01:17:40):
in the. First round And the eagles didn't do it
in the, first round but it's the same logic they
Used With. Landon dickerson let's draft him to be a
center Replacement for Jason kelce he'll play left guard. For
now what do, you know he's great, At it let's
actually draft a center To replace. Jason kelcey and so
you see. That logic the other road is man and
this guy kind of stinks at, right guard and then you, ask,
(01:18:03):
yourself well is he going to be better going, to
tackle which is a harder position. To Play so i'm
kind of out on the idea of like drafting a
tackle to play guard in the, first round and generally
don't think a guard is great value in the. First
round but one offensive GUY that i would really like
in the, first ROUND and i don't know That the
eagles would, do It But colston loveland is a GUY
(01:18:24):
that i would really like if. He's there, AND again
i don't know that he's going to, get there but
given all signs point To the eagles moving On From,
dallas GODDARD and i do think that leaves a huge
hole in your tight end Room because i'm not A
Big grant. Calcatara Guy, colston loveland, and again you can
get into positional value like a tight end in the
(01:18:45):
first round and an offense that's run HEAVY With aj
Brown And. DeVante smith but at the end of, THE
day i think it's you look at it as locking
in a GUY that i think is going to be
very good for, five years and you just are naturally
Transitioning From Dallas scott art who was very good to another.
Tight end And the eagles love to get into, twelve
(01:19:05):
PERSONNEL and i think you can give him some inline blocking,
responsibilities there so he's an OFFENSIVE pick i. WOULD like
i kind of feel Like the eagles will end up
as they often do in the trenches on the defensive
side of.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
The, Ball, Though yeah i'm, ACTUALLY so i Really. LIKE
cleveland I have loveland. TWELVE overall i was surprised to
hear you love him As an eagles, fit Though because
i'm definitely kind of scared of his. BLOCKING ability i
guess in our offense and we do ask tight ends
to block. SO often i have ANOTHER question i want
to get to about that pick, Thirty two but do
(01:19:38):
You think loveland would be able to hang at kind
of What the eagles asked the tight end to do from,
Blocking perspective and do you think he's a guy That
the eagles are going to look at because?
Speaker 5 (01:19:48):
OF that I think i, think immediately like if you plugged,
him in he is a step Down from goddard as,
a BLOCKER and i think he's a step up as. A,
RECEIVER yeah, I, AGREE however I do i do think
he's a little better blocker than he's given credit. FOR being. I,
agree also he's just big and he's willing as. A
(01:20:10):
BLOCKER and i think you can do a lot with
an athletic guy who, is big framed and willing as.
A blocker you know there's technical things that you can
that he needs to, clean up and he blocks better
out of, the slot and like you're not going to
ask him to one on one block defensive ends a
lot of times and things.
Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
Like THAT but i do think he.
Speaker 5 (01:20:30):
Projects favorably and like his development is a run blocker
if that's what a team wants him to. Focus ON
so i think there's some better reps out there then
people typically go to. With HIM and i also think
he could develop a lot more consistency there with.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
GOOD coaching a lot of Rumors With colson lovelin That
the chargers may even trade up to, get Him that
harball is like in love with him From his, michigan
days and a Lot of michigan guys in, the draft
so i'd be it'd be Interesting if harball does end
up with one of them at twenty two or are
moving up.
Speaker 5 (01:20:59):
For them, but Yeah if harball, likes him you know
he can run block because doesn't want to throw the.
Ball anyways, so exactly you're, exactly right that's that's a
good that's a good feather in the cap For The
colston loveland can. Block People if harball wants to trade up.
Speaker 2 (01:21:12):
For, him Yeah and i'm, Honestly like i'm trying to
get you to talk me Into putting loveland high On
my eagles big BOARD because i. Hadn't, TWELVE overall i love.
THE GUY i i didn't think of him As an eagles.
Potential Guy but i'm you're you're, talking me and let
me ask you about another position. Of need obviously you
Mentioned that goddard probably The way sirianni answered that question
maybe let's. Get, train yeah that was the least leverage
(01:21:36):
Inspiring answer i've. Ever seen but whatever you see if
you plant, A, flower yeah that. Was insane he could
not have sounded like more traded already or cut already if.
He tried. BUT whatever i obviously a position of need
it would be would. Be safety After Trading Chauncey. GARDNER
johnson i have three safeties graded his FIRST. Round us
(01:22:00):
they're all back end of the first, round prospects but
we're picking in the. BACK end i think there's probably
only one that's being kind of consensus created in the,
first round And That's. Malachi starks there's another Two With
Xavier Watson, nick manory who probably are more second. Round
guys maybe they sneak into the back end of The
first but are any of them possibilities at thirty two
good fits For? The Eagles maybe day. Two targets where
(01:22:22):
are you feeling about the safety position for?
Speaker 5 (01:22:24):
This, draft yeah so safety is actually the last POSITION
that i have, to WATCH so i am not very
far down the safety at rabbit. HOLE yet, i mean
it Seems like stark's is just not even going to
be in range For. The, EAGLES yeah i get the
vibe he's going to. Go, EARLY also, i mean maybe
things change if a guy that's just supposed to go
(01:22:46):
really early is all of a sudden available at, thirty
two although something would have had to have happened that
we don't. Know about but he doesn't really fit like
the athletic profile of What the eagles tend to go.
After EITHER so i just kind of think he's not
going to be in range For the eagles and be if.
He does if, he was he wouldn't really fit. Their Profile.
Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Emon warry is interesting.
Speaker 5 (01:23:07):
Because he blew up the combine, and LIKE and i
haven't watched him, a lot so but as you as
you watch him some he doesn't it doesn't feel like
He's as rangy on like film as his. ATHLETIC testing,
i mean he gets to the ten point zero relative
athletics score and that automatically makes your.
Speaker 2 (01:23:26):
Eyes pop but.
Speaker 5 (01:23:29):
Obviously it's a Place the eagles need to look at
because you think about last season and when there were,
safety injuries And the eagles didn't have a lot, of
those but there Were Times vonte maddox was kind of
the first guy off of, the bench And the Eagles
Let avonte maddox walk for almost a minimum contract To,
the lions and so you get into this game, of,
(01:23:50):
like well does that mean They Trust sidney brown if
they weren't willing To Pay avonte maddox one and a half. Million,
dollars well if they Did Trust, sidney brown why wasn't
he the backup safety? Last year and so you get
into all kinds of, things there and, it's definitely in,
my opinion the biggest hole on, the roster because, YOU
know I Think read blanken hips a, fine safety but
you need two, of Them And Chauncey gardner, johnson's gone
(01:24:12):
AND so i don't know what they're gonna. Do there,
you know it isn't going To Be, sidney brown do
they feel comfortable walking into a Season With sidney brown being.
THEIR guy i don't. THINK so i think that they
are probably going to add, a safety and if it's
not through, the draft maybe it's post draft In A
justin simmons Or A, julian blackman or you know one
(01:24:35):
of those safeties that's still out there that can just
get you a base level. Of competency, you know are
they going To move Cooper To gene, it's SAFETY which
i would, absolutely hate by, The way so safety is
a big, question mark and unfortunately it's one of the
FEW positions i don't have very many definitive opinions.
Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
On. Yet either Let's uh i'm gonna throw IT to
i got a little co hosception going, on here my
my podcast co host and my Radio cost i'll throw
it to on uh to to Ask ask shane the.
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
Draft, Questioner, Yeah SHANE so I asked mark this.
Speaker 4 (01:25:04):
As well do you have any kind of your guys
for this, draft that when diving into the tape taking
a look at these, that like in, your mind should
be ranked far higher than is. The consensus are any
guys that popped your mind with? That question we Call
him helmet.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Sticker guys helmet some.
Speaker 5 (01:25:19):
HELMETSTICKER guys, I mean I'm obviously i'm biased on, this
ONE so i don't know if, it Counts but i'm
A Big danny. STUTSMAN guy I Love. DANNY stutsman i
think it's insane that like you can go and Obviously
it's mott, draft simulators but that you can just get
this guy in like the, one twenties the one forties
and any mock, draft simulator and. That's insane he's a
(01:25:40):
better player. Than that he's been the.
Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
Heart and soul of a VERY good.
Speaker 5 (01:25:45):
Ou defense and not, just that like the, unit's good
but like, He pops like if you had no idea
what you were looking at and you just turned, it
on you would be like within a couple. Of quarters
like that guy is, really good and you know he's got.
GOOD athlesn'ticism i don't know that he's, you know necessarily
a great fit For, the EAGLES.
Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
But i would love it ANYWAYS because i think he's
just a really. GOOD player i also am, intrigued BY
and I know mark hate's.
Speaker 5 (01:26:15):
THIS guy i am very Intrigued By, charles grant offensive
tackle Out of William AND mary i was watching another
guy that we do draft, Stuff with dives Miss cruck Pot.
ON twitter i was watching offensive line stuff and getting
my rankings put together for off Our offensive line show,
last WEEK and i messaged HIM and i, WAS like
(01:26:36):
i found the OFFENSIVE lineman i Want the eagles, to
draft and like immediately he responds and he was, just
Like It's, charles GRANT and i, was, LIKE yep.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
I just like the potential. With HIM and, i mean
he's an, older.
Speaker 5 (01:26:48):
Prospect but he's got tremendously, long arms and he's a,
good MOVER and i think he's a developed like he's
your Enroll In scotland university. Type GUY so i really
am Intrigued By. Charles GRANT and i know it's a
long shot that, you know an older prospect Out of
William and mary that's not technically, refined hits but if he,
(01:27:10):
DOES hit i think he's going to be.
Speaker 4 (01:27:12):
So Good.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
See i'm trying to think.
Speaker 5 (01:27:16):
Who else i'm a big Fan Of dylan samson, as
well running back Out.
Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
Of tennessee i'm.
Speaker 5 (01:27:21):
Very intrigued by what. He offers and there's some Concerns
with sampson in terms of like size and workload and
what he could sustain AT the. Nfl level but two
big boxes he checks for me is he's got explosiveness
and he's a good. Pass protector and if you have those,
two things you can get on the field as a.
Running back and so, you know he was asked to
(01:27:43):
handle a lot of protection duties The way tennessee runs,
their offense spreading. Everything out anytime you check into a
six man protection like as a running back in, that
offense you were individually responsible. For somebody and so he's
got a lot of pass pro reps, out THERE and
i think he can handle. That well and usually that's
not something you can say about a lot of, running
(01:28:04):
backs especially one at, His size like that's kind. Of, crazy,
so uh he's another One that i'm very. Intrigued by
would love, to see, you Know In midnight green where
he's not gonna get a lot of Reps Behind, saquon
barkley but when, he does, you know he's not gonna
Be A kenny gainwell that comes in and, it's like,
you know we can expect four or five yards on.
(01:28:24):
This play, it's, like hey he might just hit a home,
run here and you just.
Speaker 2 (01:28:27):
Never know and another kind of kind of on the
other side of, The coin who is the guy that
you're hearing get floated as a, top ten, top fifteen
top twenty pick whatever you want, to say and you're
you just don't. SEE it. A Man I.
Speaker 5 (01:28:45):
So i was so DISAPPOINTED when i started watching the edge,
rusher CLASS like i, was TOLD like i was led.
To BELIEVE and i don't watch a ton OF colle
i casually watch. COLLEGE football i don't really start, doing,
drafts outings s outing STUFF until nfl, season's OVER and i.
Expected THIS all i heard was this edge class is,
(01:29:07):
so deep it's. So good AND as i kept watching,
THESE guys i, WAS like i don't WHO am i
supposed to give first round grades to an? Edge RUSHER
and i gave a few, Of Them, Abdual Carter, James,
Fierce Junior. Mike GREEN but i just see a lot
of infatuation with like the, edge CLASS and i think
there's some, good PLAYERS but i didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
See it being like.
Speaker 5 (01:29:29):
Overwhelmingly good i'm A little i'm Concerned About will campbell a,
little bit like what position he's going to play at the,
Next level and, you know he just gets into that
thing for, me, THAT like i think he's a very good,
offensive Lineman but i'm not sure he sticks, at tackle
and that It's The peter scronsky of it all a
(01:29:50):
couple of, years ago where that makes me nervous to
be the team that drafts a guy that might have
to go to guard in the, top TEN but i
mean the guy that's gonna go way too high As.
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
Shar sanders i'm.
Speaker 5 (01:30:04):
And quarterbacks get, routinely overinflated overdrafted because it is the
most important position in. Pro SPORTS but I Gave sugar
sanders the second. ROUND grade i obviously don't think he's
going to. GO there i would not want to be
the TEAM, the gm the head coach tying my job
to spending a top five Pick On, sugar SANDERS and
(01:30:26):
i desperately hope he's there at number three overall For
the giants to swoop in, and TAKE because i just
don't think that's a good use of resources in.
Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
This draft on the same kind of side there With
cam ward, going one where like, FOR me i, get
it you're a team that doesn't have a Quarterback, In
tennessee you're you're kind of out in the wasteland and
needing something to pick your fan, base up you're moving
into a. NEW stadium i think that there's a chance
we look back on this and laugh at the fact
(01:30:55):
That cam ward has taken over a couple of these
guys in the top five for so picks and to,
end up, you know being, all pros Whether It's abdul
Carter or, Teed McMillan travis Hunter Or, Ashon Gent, James Pierce,
will johnson whoever you want, to say what is your
kind of take On the titans going ahead and taking
that chance at number?
Speaker 5 (01:31:14):
One, OVERALL yeah i know there was like the reports,
early on and who knows how true they were about
like them, Getting OFFERED like i think it was like
a first this year and, next year second this year and,
next year and like a third this year something. Like
that whatever that package was From, the jets they were
absolutely insane if they turned. That down in, MY opinion
(01:31:36):
i don't know that that was ever a legitimate offer on,
the table but if, it was they should all.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
Be fired. You know, THAT said i could see it.
Speaker 5 (01:31:44):
Being hard to get a lot of value for one overall,
This year LIKE you're i don't think you would get
the trade down package that you could have gotten in.
Years past and so if we're in a world where
you need a quarterback and you're not getting trade down
offers that are, worth it, AND you i mean you
don't have you can't Do The will levice.
Speaker 2 (01:32:06):
Thing again.
Speaker 5 (01:32:08):
You could do worse Than cam ward, For SURE like
i see the ceiling With, Cam WARD like i could
see How, cam ward, you know becomes a top. Ten
quarterback that he's got some, playmaking ability that he's got some,
arm talent and, you know his pressure to sack ratio
has really improved over the last couple. Of seasons and,
(01:32:31):
you know if you can rain in some of, the
aggressiveness which is often easier to do than trying to
get a checkdown quarterback to be, more aggressive and if
you can get him to get to, his checkdowns and
if you can get him to take care of, the
football and a lot of that goes hand, in hand
like stop being, so aggressive stop big, play hunting hits,
your checkdowns let's play. On TIME like i generally think
(01:32:52):
it's easier to get an athletic quarterback there than it
is to, you know take a pocket guy that is
just gett into the checkdown so passive to tell him
to extend plays and to push the.
Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
Ball DOWNFIELD so i. SEE it.
Speaker 5 (01:33:09):
I don't think it's laughable at all to Take cam
ward number. One overall i've got like a late first
round great, on him and you get into the positional value.
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Thing AGAIN so i can see it With.
Speaker 5 (01:33:19):
Cam ward it's not the GUY that i. Would want
He cam ward would have BEEN my qb four. LAST
year i would have had, him ahead a little bit ahead,
of McCarthy behind Jade, and daniels which we See How
jade daniels.
Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
Turned out.
Speaker 5 (01:33:35):
It's not, last YEAR and i think he's the best
quarterback prospect in. This draft for, these guys next draft is.
Not guaranteed you might still be bad next year and.
Get fired you might not, get fired but you might
be picking, seven overall and, you know is it worth
would you rather Have cam ward in? This draft or
would you rather trade three first round picks to go
(01:33:57):
up and next year to get whatever? Quarterback is and
we're famous for the next year's. Quarterback class it's gonna.
Be awesome and then you get there and, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
Like eh last, year though where nobody.
Speaker 5 (01:34:08):
Said that, last year nobody said THAT so i get
the cam word of. IT all i would not love
being the team that takes him, one OVERALL but i
definitely see the pathway where this guy becomes a top
ten quarterback and turns a. Franchise AROUND and i could
see it happening, really, quickly Because like MARK and i
talk about all, the time these, mobile quarterbacks they do
(01:34:30):
bring a certain floor just for their athleticism.
Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
And their ability to.
Speaker 5 (01:34:34):
Extend plays even if you know they're still learning how
to work IN, the nfl they can.
Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
Always, RUN yeah i think my thing with HIM is
i don't think he's Like A jaden daniels level athlete
or like. RUNNER like i think he's going to be
more OF a i guess i'd say like a Camp
of williams, runner like where it's, more like, you know
a couple hundred yards, a year but maybe more so
like manipulating the pocket more than, anything. Else Hopefully but
(01:35:00):
i'm a little lower on ward just in TERMS of
i have him as like a high second round grade
you have a, late first so it's not, that different
and obviously positional value. Determines EVERYTHING but I guess i'll
ask you. A question sean asked ME and i talked
about the. Cornerback position, he, asked who what class have
you come away with either thinking of the deepest or the?
(01:35:21):
Best class which class? SO far i think we haven't
covered receiver corner safety over on. Armchair scouts but, besides
that which is your favorite class?
Speaker 1 (01:35:32):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:35:32):
Far yeah i'm still.
Speaker 5 (01:35:34):
Stacking my rankings all across, defensive back but it's going to. Be,
cornerback yeah cornerback is going To be if you want,
a cornerback it's a good draft to. Need one which
is interesting For the, eagles Too Because Darius Lay isaiah rodgers.
Are gone do they spend the first round pick on?
A cornerback, you know you get the Stat that howie
hasn't spent a first round pick on a CORNERBACK since
(01:35:56):
i don't remember when, it was and they went one
two at cornerback. Last year could he really follow it
up with the cornerback in the first round? THIS year
i certainly think it's possible if the board stacks out,
That WAY and i think there's a lot of GUYS
that i will end up assigning first round grades.
Speaker 2 (01:36:13):
Too out of.
Speaker 5 (01:36:14):
This class and, YOU know i went in thinking it
was gonna be, edge RUSHER like, i said was, disappointed there,
BUT cornerback i think there's a lot of depth.
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
And then We have i'll get you out of here
on this. Last question we have a wide receiver podcast
episode coming. UP yet i don't know how deep you
are in your, research yet BUT just i guess in terms, of,
takeaways well it's your kind of biggest takeaway so far
going through the wide. Receiver position there's a lot of.
Speaker 5 (01:36:42):
Wide receivers in this Draft that, i'm like these are. Slot,
players yeah and it's a good draft if you want
a and there's slot receivers coming a couple of different
side it a couple different, sizes works but a couple of.
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
Different.
Speaker 5 (01:36:55):
Flavors right you get like the super shifty like can
run a four three forty sort of vertical threat out of.
The slot you got the smooth route runner, yat guys
and you've got like the power slots, you know and
all three of those types are in. This class it's
a little rougher if you want to get an, outside
receiver especially if you want to get LIKE an, x
(01:37:16):
receiver because some of those speed slot guys they could
BE your z receiver types. As well if you WANT
an x receiver in, this class it Might Be, slim
PICKENS and, i, WONDER like i think there's a lot
of good players in. THIS class i wonder what value
we're going to see teams start to assign to these
(01:37:37):
slot receivers because as teams major in, eleven, personnel now
like how valuable is a slot receiver only comparative to
LIKE an x guy on, the outside because a lot
of THESE guys i just see as great, slot fits
which you could argue is also a need For, the,
EAGLES right i don't know how big of a need
considering the offense is always going to Run through, Saquon
(01:37:57):
Aj DeVante smith and tight end yet to. Be named
but that's one of the things that really stood out
to me is just there are a ton of slot
receivers and there's not a lot of, great options at
least early on on.
Speaker 2 (01:38:10):
The, outside yeah it's definitely a. Small class it reminds me.
OF that i think it Was The cadarius tony year
where everybody felt like everybody felt like a small receiver,
that year and That's How cadarius tony ends up in the. First, round,
yeah exactly there. You go but you can Listen To,
Shane half DIVES and i every single Week And ryan
(01:38:32):
reese Over On armchair scouts On The Eagles Pin. Pull
network Shane and i'll be picking up, Chalk talk i'm
sure once the draft's done to be doing our draft
recaps where we go division, by division conference, by conference
and those are some of my favorite episodes of. The
year we're getting close To your shane three, weeks away
we'll have our live. Watch along we'll have more information
(01:38:55):
on that as. We go where we're getting to the
point we got to put together this draft guide and
see where where our overall rankings. Stack up see who
our helmet sticker guys are officially For For, Shane dives
RYAN and I and i'm excited to break down these
next couple. Of weeks hopefully We get Dives and ryan
on to plug the pod. As Well, but shane thanks
(01:39:16):

Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
