Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's no place for
hate in a state.
We should be purposeful to makesure that we have everyone's
back.
You know and it's like I thinkabout this word diversity is
like the presence of differencesthat make us each unique.
That means that every singleone of the 22 million people who
live in Florida are alldifferent and they all represent
(00:20):
a different background, whichmeans they all bring value to
the conversation.
That's my Republican friends, that's my independent friends,
that's my Democratic friends.
I'm friends with people wholive across all the different
political parties, because it'sso important to respect that
people are different and learnfrom them.
If we just learn from them, this would make our world so
(00:41):
much stronger, and this isexactly one of the main reasons
on why I'm running for office.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
And we have that same
issue in Nebraska, where
they're attacking DEI and infact the University of Nebraska
had funding cut and they haveeliminated their DEI programs,
which are very beneficial ineducating others in that system
about the systemic and ingrainedracism that does exist in this
(01:11):
country.
People don't want to admit itbut it does exist and there's
been a whole history of that andeliminating education about
that is so wrong.
It's like the Holocaust denierswho want to deny that the
Holocaust ever occurred, thatthere was somebody who killed
millions of people because oftheir religious background.
(01:34):
They're trying to basicallyeradicate history and if you
don't learn from history, you'redoomed to repeat some of those
same things.
So historical education inrelationship to what has
happened in this country issomething that should be
celebrated and not somethingthat should be feared.
(01:56):
But because it attacks theirwell-being and their systems
that they have set up thatallows them to profit at the
expense of everyone else, theythey don't want that type of
education to be out there tofolks and and that is sad and I
assume desantis is doing thesame thing as far as uh,
(02:17):
eliminating dei and in floridaoh yeah yeah, I mean, I know
that, uh, many programs atuniversities have tried to
rebrand it to be the Center forInclusive Excellence and
navigating around it that way isone way I've seen it being done
(02:41):
.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
I used to literally
run a program for 60,000
employees at PNC Banksurrounding employee engagement,
employee development andcommunity active activation, and
we always leveraged ourdifferences to impact change.
If you were a white guy, well, guess what?
(03:03):
You could go out to white guyconnection groups, right, and
build relationships there andcultivate people to come to the
bank, right?
Well, if you're a woman, thenyou go to women's groups to
cultivate relationships andbring people to the bank.
And this is why it's soimportant to have people across
all the differences to be a partof your team.
(03:24):
And then, and then when youstart to learn things about
different communities that aredifferent, then you could be the
one to go and show up at thecommunity.
I mean, I went to the HispanicBar Association.
I wasn't a lawyer and I'mdefinitely not a Hispanic, but
you know what, I decided tosupport the Hispanic Bar
Association and I went there andyou know, and I said, you know,
(03:51):
obviously I provide, I do somework surrounding continuing
legal education credits and I dothat for all different types of
lawyers, not just LGBTQ lawyersor women lawyers.
I do that for any lawyers, right, and so this helps me open
up my sphere of influence to domore business with more people,
because I'm focusing onbuilding relationships with
people who are different and I'mopening up my eyes to do
business with more people.
(04:11):
This is why diversity is sofreaking good for business.
It's absolutely mind-blowing tothink that someone wouldn't
want to garner more business fortheir company if I go outside
their normal realm.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
It's crazy how some
of this works sometimes.
I've been for the last fouryears on my office's anti-racism
, diversity and inclusionworking group that is working
with the county of Los Angeleson anti-racism, diversity and
inclusion programmingprogramming.
(04:48):
We want to educate peoplewithin our offices about those
differences and see thatdiversity is a good thing and it
allows you to get differentexperiences and allows you to be
able to relate to people ondifferent levels, and so to take
that away is so short-sighted,is is so short-sighted.
(05:11):
And we, we, we, you guys got,uh, a nebraskan down there
running one of your at theuniversity of florida.
Uh, our, our us senatorresigned so that he could take
the job down there and, I guess, continue to muck everything up
and and make it a lot worse.
And then our governor appointedthe former governor that we had
to the US Senate.
So we have two Senate races inNebraska this year.
(05:31):
But it's like the dirtiness ofit of political payoffs and jobs
to attack minorities.
That is so cruel.
