This is episode 74 of The Truth Tank
In this episode, We will be looking at the 2025 Academy Awards or as I like to call it “Ding Dong Oscars Dead.” A new year brings another awards season, and the Oscars remain the most out of touch, over the top and pretentious event on the calendar. This year is no different: there was plenty of glitz and glamour on the red carpet, along with some very awkward interviews before the ceremony.
Conan O’Brien took over hosting duties this year, bringing some much needed non-political humour as well as campaigning for the cinema experience. Unfortunately, that’s where hope dies. Any expectation that this year would be the break from the turmoil of recent Oscars quickly faded, as the integrity of the Academy once again came under scrutiny.
Running time is still an issue— as are the virtue signalling, political correctness, tedious musical numbers, extra long and cringeworthy acceptance speeches and Hollywood (relentless self gratification instead of) jerking itself off. We also look at all the best (and worst) winners and losers, major snubs (Dune), ridiculous celebrities, the end of Bond, unsung heroes of the industry, overlooked categories, Anora (really) and much more. Once again, this year’s awards bring up that age-old question: Are the Oscars rigged?

The Brothers Ortiz
The Brothers Ortiz is the story of two brothers–both successful, but in very different ways. Gabe Ortiz becomes a third-highest ranking officer in all of Texas while his younger brother Larry climbs the ranks in Puro Tango Blast, a notorious Texas Prison gang. Gabe doesn’t know all the details of his brother’s nefarious dealings, and he’s made a point not to ask, to protect their relationship. But when Larry is murdered during a home invasion in a rented beach house, Gabe has no choice but to look into what happened that night. To solve Larry’s murder, Gabe, and the whole Ortiz family, must ask each other tough questions.
