Hello and welcome to
the Unraid November Digest.
I'm your host, stefano, fromSPX Labs, and, in case you
missed it, there was an UnraidCyber Sale that concluded in
November.
So hopefully anyone out therewas able to nab an Unraid
license at a discount if theywere looking to purchase Unraid
for the first discount, if theywere looking to purchase Unraid
for the first time, second timeor even third time.
Next up on the list, unraid6.12.14 has been released and
(00:32):
it's recommended that all usersupgrade if they can, because
there are some pretty importantsecurity fixes and also bug
fixes that have been broughtinto the Unraid 6.12.14.
Some of those fixes are alsobackported from Unraid 7.
So that's pretty cool to see.
Perhaps the biggest improvementfrom 6.12.13 to .14 is the fact
(00:53):
that something changed inWindows where now public shares
were not connectingappropriately.
So one of the workarounds thatyou can do to more easily
connect to your public shares iscreate a user within Unraid
that has the same username asyour Windows PC so you can more
easily connect to your publicshares is create a user within
Unraid that has the sameusername as your Windows PC so
you can more easily connect tothose public shares.
Other bug fixes andimprovements have been made to
EMHTTPD, sharelist, shareedit,disksettings, removepstext.
(01:17):
The Linux kernel has also beenupdated to 6.1.18.
In the base distribution therehave also been upgrades to
Firefox, intel, microcode, lib, ssh, openssl, php, samba and
WGit.
These should close any CVEsthat were previously opened due
to the previous versions of thatsoftware.
So great news there forsecurity
fixes.
This next topic technicallydidn't occur during November.
(01:39):
However, we're going to talkabout it anyway.
Unraid 7, release Candidate 1has officially dropped as of
December 2nd.
So if anyone was out therewaiting for the beta to remove
to the Release Candidate, now'syour chance to jump on that and
I'd expect everything to workpretty well.
I've had Unraid 7 running onone of my servers for quite some
time and haven't experiencedany issues.
Also, I feel like it's prettysafe to jump into because you
(02:01):
have to think that some of thefixes in Unraid 7 have also been
backported to Unraid 6.
So I feel like it's prettystable.
And again, just to quicklyrecap some of the highlights of
Unraid 7, at least candidate onethings that you could expect or
native ZFS support, theoptional array, tailscale
integration, vm managerimprovements and a refined web
(02:21):
UI.
A contract position opened upin November, but Unraid is no
longer accepting applicationsfor that position and the
position specifically was atechnical writer.
You know someone that couldupdate the documentation or
improve the documentation thatUnraid makes available.
Interviews are expected tobegin in December now, of course
, and they're looking tohopefully have this person start
(02:41):
sometime in January, so wecould hopefully start seeing
some improvements being made tothe documentation, because it's
been reported that thedocumentation can be hard to
follow or it's too technical ortoo complex for people who are
not as technically inclined asother people, so that could be a
really cool improvement thatwe'll be seeing sometime in the
near future, hopefully soonerthan
(03:02):
later.
Community content wise, if youare on the fence about upgrading
to Unraid 7 and release K-1,then you should perhaps check
out IbraCorp's video aboutupgrading to Unraid 7 safely.
Definitely give that a look ifyou're at all interested and
maybe are too unsure or not surewhat to expect from upgrading,
and you'll find out in thatvideo.
Alien Tech shows us how toinstall and configure Nginx
(03:24):
Proxy Manager.
We have a video from MadTC Techthat shows us how to centralize
our gaming collection andfinally, we have a video from
Beyond Cloud Technology, whotells us some of the must-have
plugins that you should have forUnraid 6 in 2024.
And with that, that concludesthe Unraid Digest show.
Thank you all for watching.
