Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now that Halloween's
over, I guess I can get back to
my normal job.
Alright, oh, we're ready to golive now.
Well, just give me a secondhere, will ya?
Kicking off the October Digest.
(00:23):
One of the things you may havemissed is Unraid 7, beta 3, and
Beta 4, both launched in October, with perhaps the biggest news
being that the Tailscale pluginhas been officially integrated
into the Beta 4.
So that's something you'll haveto look forward to, and there
will be plenty of content tocome out about that in the
future.
Another notable change is Movernow possesses the ability to
(00:45):
transfer files between storagepools.
It can also be used to emptyarray disks with this command
that you see here that you couldinput into the web terminal.
I'm not sure who out here needsto hear this, but riserfs is
being deprecated and because ofthat deprecation, it will also
be removed from Unraid in thefuture, so you can expect to
lose that sometime soon.
(01:07):
Not getting into thenitty-gritty here, but as far as
ZFS implementation goes, we nowhave support for hybrid ZFS
pools.
There are recovery options whenmultiple drives fail and Lux
encryption gets introduced forZFS pools and our drives.
We now have allocation profilesfor our ZFS and ButterFS pools.
These will be useful when youhave certain number slots
(01:28):
selected, so that way you getdifferent RAID configurations,
for instance, like ButterFSdefaulting to single or RAID 1.
On the topic of storage, we nowhave parallel devices spin up
and spin down, so you can nowspin down devices parallelly,
which will help you save somemoney, hopefully, on your
electricity bill.
There's improved Lux encryptionmanagement, as well as enhanced
(01:48):
ZFS integration and allocation.
With a few bug fixes andoptimizations, there are
absolutely an entire boatload ofchanges that have been done to
the Beta 4 that, honestly, if wewent over all of them, this
video would be extremely long.
So I'm just gonna name a couplemore just to wet your beak a
little bit.
And we get two more integratedplugins the Dynamics File
(02:09):
Manager and GUI Search.
We also get a upgrade toMemtest 86+, which is much
needed in my opinion.
So that'd be great to see.
And, again, there are so manymore.
So be sure to go to the Unraidwebsite and check out all of the
changes that were made to theBeta 4.
It's great to hear that Unraidhas partnered with Tailscale,
because this is gonna give us alot more options as far as
(02:30):
securing our Docker containersand also gonna allow us to
access remote shares more easilywith the Tailscale integration.
Tailscale, within Dockercontainers enables secure,
flexible networking and canprovide unique machine names for
each of the containers.
This will allowcontainer-specific sharing,
reverse proxying with validcertificates, vpn routing
(02:56):
through exit nodes which is abig one and secure
communications across devices onthe tail net or regular LAN.
Also, with remote shares, viaTailscale, you can securely
access your Unraid sharesremotely and securely share
specific Unraid shares withfriends over SMB or NFS using a
Docker container, while avoidingsharing the entire server for
all services.
(03:16):
And that, right there, isactually a big one, because that
means you can have your stuffon a friend's server and they
have absolutely no access to itand only you do.
Now I heard a little birdie tellme that Space Invader 1 is
working on a video to show thisfeature off, so definitely be
sure to head over to his channel, like and subscribe to it if
you're at all interested inseeing Tailscale pull off that
(03:38):
functionality right there.
It is very interesting, Ipromise you.
As a part of this discussion, Ihighly recommend checking out
the Tailscale Magic video that'son this channel, so that way
you can get a lot moreinformation about exactly what's
going on.
For instance, in that videothey'll talk about NAT,
traversal, remote access, tsnet, certificates, tailscale, serve
(04:01):
versus funneling and so manymore topics.
It's a worthwhile video and Ipromise you, if you're at all
interested in learning aboutTailscale and why this
integration is important, there's plenty of information in
there to really help you wrapyour mind around it.
Excitement is a-brewing as wemove into November and people
are asking the question willthere be a discount on unread
licenses?
Yes, there will be a Cyber Weekweekend sale where you could
(04:23):
pick up a starter or unleashlicense, and the sale begins on
November 29th, runs all the waythrough cyber Monday, ending on
December 2nd.
Now there's additional detailsin there that I'm not fully
aware of at this time, such asprices, as well as bundles and
upgrade discounts.
So definitely keep your eyespeeled on social media, because
there's going to be moreinformation that's released
(04:45):
later, and I think the best wayto get these information is if
you're subscribed to thenewsletter.
So if you haven't done thatalready, go ahead and get
subscribed so you can get themost up-to-date information as
it gets released.
Looking for additional Unraidcommunity content?
Well then, be sure to check outone of these videos that you
see on your screen here, andmaybe you'll find something to
scratch that itch that you'vebeen looking for.
(05:06):
Be sure to drop a like orsubscribe if you haven't done so
already, and thank you all forwatching the Unraid October
Digest.
Thank you,
