Welcome to a new kind of happy hour!! The Undrunken™ Podcast is hanging out with friends for an hour or so as they share their stories and journey with their relationship with alcohol. Not all of us consider ourselves alcoholics or identify with being sober, hence the term, Undrunken™.

This happy hour is with Garrett Renon, the host of The Deeper You Go The Weirder it Gets podcast (check it out in show notes below!). Garett shares his experiences with plant-based medicine, explaining that he undertook a year-long diet of specific plants to understand their healing properties. He talks about his journey from being a fitness professional to his exploration of plant medicine and holistic health.

Garett emphasized the importance of balancing the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of health. He also discussed the potential health implications of consuming alcohol, particularly beer, in relation to testosterone levels and overall wellness. We just scratch the surface on the concept of "masculine" and "feminine" energies, and its significance in understanding human nature and relationships.

He tells us of the endeavor into exploring non-alcoholic, plant-based beverages as an alternative to traditional beer and shares about the historical use of plants other than hops in beer, such as yarrow and devil's club, and their mind-expanding, energizing properties. One of the primary reasons of his suppression of alcohol consumption is due to its suppressive and depressive qualities, and his preference for substances that allow him to connect the dots and have ideas bursting.

Garett is recently returning to “normal life” after a year-long diet, which involved reducing input and focusing on intuitive communication with plants. He shares his discovery into the world of plant medicines, how it has expanded his perspective, and the potential benefits of these practices. We talk about the relationship between plant medicine and alcohol, noting that many people who partake in plant medicine tend to avoid alcohol.

We finish with him sharing, and I think his podcast highlights this, how being Undrunken he is more aware of his surroundings and the subtle programming in media. I think we must invite him back and it would be great to dive deeper into some of his thoughts and knowledge around the social and cultural influences surrounding alcohol.

_____

The Undrunken episode I’m jamming with right now is Morgan Henley’s interview, and I am so excited to interview his love Heidi so look for that episode soon!

Another podcast and episode I am digging is The Deeper You Go The Weirder It Gets with host Garett Renon, specifically the Jedi episode.

A book I’m reading at the moment, well there are two. Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima and Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. I met Jamie last year at an event and had to buy her book, it reads like she is talking to you. Jons book was recommended by a friend and it's so well written, I have shivered a few times reading his descriptions of the frigid conditions on Everest.
