Anthony is a proud Ngiyampaa man who resides in Broken Hill, Far western NSW. A wood carver of traditional Aboriginal artefacts, drawer and all-around artist.

Growing up in Broken Hill and becoming interested in the world of wood carving, Anthony is constantly guided by his elders and community. He is a carver of boomerangs, nulla-nullas, clap sticks, and sculptural pieces.

Anthony is always sharing his knowledge and learning from his elders; this is something he is highly passionate about, and he hopes to continue his journey into the future and help teach the upcoming generations.

In this week’s episode, we discussed the displacement of his grandparents from Ngiyampaa to Barkindji country and the challenges this created. Anthony also opened up about being welcomed into the Barkindji community and his upbringing with his foster parents. We also discussed the inappropriateness of ongoing requests from non-indigenous peoples, businesses and local governments for his culture to be shared without compensation.

This episode gives you an insight into the racist practices that took place less than 100 years ago and are still in place today.
