Guides in Mediumship: Friend or Foe?

Ever felt torn between what you've been taught about mediumship and what actually works for you? That's exactly where I found myself when discussing the controversial role of spirit guides in mediumship readings.

The metaphysical community loves its rules and boundaries—some practitioners insist that engaging with your guides during mediumship splits your energy and weakens your connection to departed loved ones. Others claim that "pure" mediumship should only involve communication with the deceased. But are these limitations helping or hindering our work?

Drawing from years of experience, I challenge these restrictive beliefs. Our guides are our eternal teachers, cheerleaders, and spiritual support system—they've been assigned to us for a purpose. The idea that we have "finite energy" contradicts the unlimited nature of spirit. We are souls first and physical bodies second, with access to boundless spiritual resources when we trust our connections.

What I've discovered is that guides can actually enhance mediumship by clarifying messages, managing overwhelming situations, and serving as gatekeepers when multiple spirits want to communicate. They're not distractions—they're facilitators helping both you and communicating spirits deliver healing messages more effectively.

The most important thing is finding what works for you rather than following arbitrary rules that create anxiety and self-doubt. There's no single "right way" to practice mediumship—only the ethical way that honors the truth of the messages you receive and serves your clients' highest good. Trust your process, use your spiritual resources wisely, and remember why you've been given these incredible connections in the first place.

I am here with another carchanneling session, which I am
graciously accepting from spirit, because I had my friends over
this weekend and one of theirkids forgot his glasses and they
live 45 minutes away and Igraciously volunteered to get
the fuck out of Compton today.

(00:21):
Get the fuck out of my housetoday, escape the kids that are
at the end of summer, if youknow.
You know, because they are ateach other's throats and
everything out of their mouthright now is a complaint or an
argument.
And essentially, we're all atthe stage where we have been in
way too close of a proximitywith each other without a

(00:45):
schedule for way too long and weall need a break from each
other.
So I am happily taking the giftfrom the universe to drive the
45 minutes out and drive the 45minutes back and sit in silence
with all of you and get a littlebit of car channeling in.
So I'm actually really, reallyfucking happy to be here today,

and over the past week or so,spirit has been dropping these
freaking nuggets, so I don'tknow how many podcast episodes
I'm going to record on this 90minute drive today, and I'm
really excited for you today,right now to talk about the idea
of guides and should we beengaging with them in our
mediumship sessions.
And this is a reallyinteresting topic for me, and
it's been a really interestingtopic talking about talking with

a few of my mentees, mystudents, about this, because
there's so much, again, varyinginformation in the marketplace,
in the metaphysical marketplace,in the mediumship world, and so
I wanted to break it down foryou and kind of explain why you
should maybe, why you shouldn't,what, what does it look like,

(01:56):
so that you at least have thebasis of information again to
make your own decision and dowhat you will with this.
Because that's the whole pointof this podcast is I will tell
you, hopefully, because I'm aLibra both sides of the story
and then I will tell you what Ithink is the right course of
travel, and then you get todecide whether you agree with me

(02:17):
or not, but at least you'remaking an informed decision,
everybody and I think this isthe key, and I feel like I'm
going to rename this podcasteventually, but I do want all of
you to walk away with your ownempowered version of whatever
this metaphysical work lookslike for you.
So let's get into guides andmediumship today.
There are so many differentcamps of this, and I will say

(02:43):
right off the bat I am somebodywho believes that guides are
with us 24-7.
They are eternal teachers.
They have been assigned to usone shape or form, and so these
are our teachers, cheerleaders,best friends in the spirit world
.
So for me, my guides are mynumber one.

(03:03):
My guides are always in my ear,we're always talking, and so
for me, guides are my ride ordie.
So I will tell you right offthe bat that I think guides
belong everywhere, includingmediumship readings.
But let me talk about what thatis after I talk about why people
don't like guides andmediumship, after I talk about
why people don't like guides inmediumship.

(03:24):
So, in terms of guides inmediumship, there's two camps of
people from my experience,there may be more that do not
like guides in mediumshipreadings.
So the first camp are peoplewho believe that we only have a
finite number I don't even knowhow you quantify it Finite

(03:45):
energy that is available in amediumship reading, and if you
start divvying up your finitespiritual and energetic cord,
then you are essentiallycrossing streams.
Sorry, then you are essentially, you know, splitting hairs in
terms of your energy, and sothat means that you're not

(04:07):
putting your full energy intoconnecting with the departed
spirit, and so I think this is avery, very interesting theory.
I have not personally seen thisto be an issue so far, and
actually when I heard this thefirst time, it actually tripped
me up and fucked up my readingsquite a bit, because before this

(04:31):
, I would naturally connect tothe departed loved one.
If I needed help, I'll call ina guide, and that's typically
how I will engage guides andmediumship readings, and so it
never really occurred to me todo anything else and it worked
really well.
And I have a very strongconnection to spirit.
So the fact that and that waslike before spirit, I learned

(04:52):
about this, and when I learnedabout this, I was already pretty
solid in my mediumship and Iwas like, oh, that's really
interesting, and I'm always thekind of person that will try
anything once, no matter what itis.
So I'm going to listen to this,I'm going to take it into
consideration, I'm going toexperiment with it and I'm going
to say is this true for me?
And so when I would be inreadings thinking about this and

(05:12):
not wanting to split my energybetween my guide and my sitter,
like I got way too in my headabout it.
I got way too in my head aboutit, and so that caused my
vibration to decrease and thenit was almost like the
self-fulfilling prophecy of, oh,I just fucked up, now am I
reading?
Shit, god damn it.

(05:33):
Right now I'm the worst mediumin the world, right, and so and
there's a lot of that inmediumship.
There's a lot of selffulfilling prophecy in
mediumship.
So if I was worried about myenergy going down, now I was
paying attention to it and now Iwas setting myself up for my
energy to go down and do ashitty reading anyway.
So I and I think that you thathappens, no matter what,

(05:55):
especially in the space oftrying to worry about, is your
energy splitting, because whothe fuck knows Like, who the
fuck knows about this?
And I think the reason why Idisagree with this theory so
much, beside it being justanother like metaphysical
gatekeeper that makes you thinkyou're doing it wrong again.
Right and like.

(06:16):
I will never be the proponentof that there's a right way to
do mediumship.
There's absolutely no right way.
There's an ethical way.
We're going to talk about thatin another episode.
But it's not a list of rules,because if we think we know
everything there is to knowabout mediumship, why the fuck
are you listening to me, right?
Like, why are we here?
I don't know.
I digress a little bit.

(06:38):
And so the idea of splittingyour energetic cord makes me
laugh a little bit, because ifyou've worked with spirit at all
, logically it doesn't makesense.
Because, logically, spirit hasunlimited knowledge, although
I'm working my way with that one, unlimited energy, no lack of

(07:03):
space or time.
I mean, we're essentially, youknow, like Twilight on the other
side.
Everybody, we are the Cullenfamily.
We have unlimited energy on theother side.
Why do we think that us assouls have limited energy here
as well?
I mean, I think it takes a lotof energy to stay in the
frequency of spirit.

(07:23):
Right, I think there's a lot of.
There's some considerations Ithink you need to think about,
but in terms of you not havingenough energy to tap into both
loved ones and guides at thesame time, that kind of makes me
chuckle, because we areenergetic beings.
We are souls first and physicalbodies second, and I don't

(07:45):
think there's a limit to howmuch energy we can access.
I feel like that one's going tobite me in the ass in the
future.
One's going to bite me in theass in the future, I don't.
I think there's a limitation towhat we can comprehend, but
certainly not in terms of howmuch energy we can take in.
And maybe it's biting me in theass right now because I'm

(08:06):
thinking about my galactic workand it's like I have run six
marathons after I connect to thegalactic realm.
So maybe, but in terms ofmediumship and guides, which are
kind of lower vibrationalfrequencies, fucking do your
thing.
Don't worry about splittinghairs, don't worry about
splitting up your energy.
And here's why because ifyou're doing this ethically, if

(08:28):
you're focused on the medium andthe spirit connection, you're
not bringing in the guides allthe time.
You're bringing in the guideswhen you need to.
You're bringing in the guideswhen you're saying SOS, like I
need help.
I don't understand this.
Can you clear this up?
So it's not like you aredirectly communicating with your
guides, it's that they arehelping the session be

(08:50):
successful, and so I don't thinkthere is an energy split, for
that, I guess, is the way that Iwant to put it.
So hopefully that explains thatone, and the other one I want to
talk about is specifically thisidea, and I'm going to 100% go
into this on a different podcastepisode that it's not pure

(09:13):
mediumship when you connect withguides in your mediumship.
Okay, I got a lot of words, Igot a lot.
It's a whole podcast episode totalk about the people who think
mediumship should be pure.
I'm going to stay away fromthat because that will be a 45
minute episode guaranteed.
However, I will say Iunderstand the reason why people

(09:36):
would be upset about that,because, in the same light,
aren't we upset when we domediumship?
But actually it's psychic,right?
Is that ethical?
I don't think that is ethical.
And so the purists will sayyou're not supposed to connect

(10:00):
to anything but departed lovedones in your readings.
And yeah, I guess I tend toagree with that Point taken.
However, agree with that Pointtaken.
However, I'm not connecting withguides to cheat the system.
I'm connecting with guides tomake sure that my energy, my

(10:24):
connection, is the best thingpossible and help the spirits
who are coming to me be able togive this information in a clear
and concise way as well.
And so, to me, your guidecoming in in a mediumship
session is your spiritualteacher.
They are your spiritual mentor,they are your gatekeeper to

(10:45):
make sure that you're notgetting multiple spirits at a
time if you're not ready forthat.
And so for me, inherently,everything with this work is
working with guides, and it iswhen I connect psychically.
If I'm having trouble, I'll askmy guide.
If I'm connectingmediumshipistically, I will ask

(11:07):
my guide for help, if I think Ineed help, or if something
doesn't make sense, right, Iwill absolutely call them in
after a session to be like wheredid I fuck up?
What did I do?
But also to the point, what areyou proud of?
Where did I kill it?
Where do I need to keep pushingmyself?
Because there's strengths andopportunities in every single
reading.
So I'll call them in as myspiritual teachers, my coaches,

(11:31):
my guides, to help me grow andcontinue to expand my skill set,
regardless of what type ofreading it is.
I mean, we're fucking assignedguides for a reason everybody.
Why the fuck aren't we usingthem?
I don't know.
This is definitely my soapboxto die on Like this, is it?

(11:56):
This is my hill to die on, mysoapbox, everything.
Because if you have thisincredible team with unlimited
knowledge, right, unlimitedaccess, is able to help you,
help your frequency, see whereyour goals are, see where your
dreams are see what you want outof this freaking life that we

(12:17):
have here, and they've beenliterally assigned to you to
help you achieve your soul'spurpose and your goals here.
Why wouldn't you use them Right?
So don't get in your head aboutit.
I would say think about whatfeels most natural for you and

(12:38):
if it does trip you up in areading, maybe don't engage with
them in a reading.
If it doesn't work for you andyou are getting tripped up, call
them in and say can you helpclear this up for me?
I don't understand.
I'm getting confused.

(12:58):
Hey, can you make sure there'sonly one spirit coming through?
This is a lot for me, because Igot to be honest with you.
I like to assume the bestintention possible when we're
talking with departed loved ones, but some of them are pain in
the asses and some of themsteamroll you and you have some
that come and do drive-bys inthe middle of the readings and

(13:19):
your guides can help manage andcontrol that.
So use them.
So use them If you really enjoythe guide work.
I mean, I don't know if I wouldpull them in and have a
three-way conversation whenyou're doing mediumship readings
.
That might be a little much,everybody, because if you're

(13:39):
talking about a three-wayconversation with your guide and
a departed loved one, that canget really confusing really
quick.
Probably don't recommend that.
But for the most part, pleaselead on your guides for support
and guidance to help you in yourspiritual development.
That is why they're here,everybody.
