A plastic mask can hide a face, but a true costume reveals a memory. We open the door to Halloween’s deeper current—back to Samhain’s bonfires, offerings, and playful divination—and show how those old practices evolved into modern symbols that still carry protection, reciprocity, and illumination. Along the way, we unpack why certain places feel instantly familiar, why some skills arrive like muscle memory, and how that “I know you” feeling might be your soul recognizing an old friend.

Together, we turn the holiday into an energetic experiment. We start by naming the qualities we need—courage, patience, creativity, ease—and then choose archetypes that match: the lion or warrior for confident presence, a steady grandmother for grounded love, a Renaissance maker for fertile artistry, a phoenix to rise above the noise. With a simple candle ritual, we invite that facet of self to step forward, then practice wearing the energy in our posture, words, and choices. No costume purchase required—intention is enough. We also explore the origins of jack‑o‑lanterns, trick‑or‑treating, and bonfires, connecting each one to its energetic purpose so the night feels alive with meaning, not just décor.

If you’ve ever landed in a city and felt home at first breath, dreamed yourself into another century, or picked up a craft like you’d never put it down, this conversation gives language and tools to trust those breadcrumbs. Treat Halloween as a bridge between the many versions of you—past, present, becoming—and let play be the portal that reintroduces you to your own wisdom. Listen, try the energetic costume practice, and tell us what you call in this year. If the episode resonates, follow, share with a friend, and leave a review so more seekers can find The Unity Code.

SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Unity Code where we explore
consciousness, spirit, and theenergetic frequencies that
connect us all.
I'm your host, Nicole Pope, aformer corporate executive
turned spiritual explorer, andtoday we're diving into a
holiday that is equal parts fun, mysterious, and deeply spiritual
Halloween.
On the surface, I have two kidshere, so it tends to, at least

(00:23):
in my house, look like candy andcostumes and spooky decorations.
But beneath that, Halloween is aliving ritual of imagination,
transformation, and play.
It's a day when we can connectto the unseen, honor our
ancestors, and give our innerchild full permission to come
out and play.
So in today's episode, we'llexplore the deep origins of

(00:43):
Halloween, how it's celebratedaround the world, and why its
playful energy is actuallynourishment for your soul.
Starting with the origins ofHalloween, it is far older than
most of us realize.
Its roots trace back more than2,000 years to the ancient
Celtic festival of Sawin, celebrated in what is now today

(01:04):
Ireland, Scotland, and northernFrance.
Sawin marked the end of theharvest and the beginning of
winter.
The Celts believed that duringthis time, spirits could walk
among the living, carryingmessages, guidance, and
sometimes even mischief.
To honor and protect theircommunities, they lit bonfires
to symbolize purification andprotection.

(01:24):
They wore masks and costumes toconfuse and ward off wandering
spirits, and they left offeringsof food and drink for benevolent
ancestors and fey beings.
It wasn't just superstition, itwas energetic work.
They understood that energy wasalive and reciprocal, and by
engaging in ritual, they wereharmonizing themselves with the

(01:45):
natural cycles of death, birth, and renewal.
When Christianity spread throughEurope, Sawin merged with All
Saints Day, known as All HallowsDay, on November 1st, and then
the evening before became AllHallows Eve, which we now call
Halloween.
Even as the names changed, theessence remained the same:
honoring the dead, celebratingtransformation, and engaging

(02:08):
with mystery through play.
So let's take a look at how someof our modern traditions
evolved.
Jack-O-Lanterns come from theIrish legend of Stingy Jack, a
man doomed to wander the earth.
Sounds like an in-law name foranyone that has a stingy Jack in
their family.
My apologies.

(02:29):
He was a man doomed to wanderthe earth with only a carved-out
turnip to light his way.
When Irish immigrants came toAmerica, they replaced turnips
with pumpkins, creating a symbolof illumination and protection
during the dark season.
Trick-or-treating originated assouling, where people offered
prayers for the dead in exchangefor small gifts or food.

(02:51):
It was a practice of reciprocityand remembrance, connecting the
living and the departed throughcommunity.
Costumes were originally usedfor protection.
They evolved into portals ofsoul expression.
So when you dress up, youmomentarily step into a new
energetic archetype, maybecourage or mystery or wild
playfulness.

(03:13):
Bonfires were central to Sawinand later Halloween gatherings,
and the fire symbolized theeternal spark of spirit
protection, purification, andcelebration all in one.
Divination games were applebombing and nut roasting.
Yeah, they weren't just randomgames.
They were used for fortunetelling and love divination.

(03:33):
Even fun held spiritual purpose.
So while Halloween wasmodernized, at its core, it is
still an energetic festival oflight and shadow connection and
curiosity and transformationthrough play.
As we move through the season oflight and shadow, it's not just
a time to reconnect withdeparted loved ones.

(03:54):
It's also a time to reconnectwith your own soul and the many
costumes it's chosen acrosstime.
Now we're not going to dive intothe proof of reincarnation
today.
That is a conversation foranother episode, but I do want
to talk about something you canfeel even if you can't quite
explain it.
And that is the quietrecognition of having been many

(04:16):
things before this lifetime.
And I want you to think abouteach past life you've had as a
costume your soul decided towear for a little while.
Each one gave you newexperiences, new lessons, new
perspectives to grow from.
And there's the beautiful partis that Halloween gives us
permission to wear one of thosesoul costumes again just for a

(04:39):
day.
We get to embody a spirit oursoul already knows and loves,
one that has shaped who you areright now.
Because you see, our souls areeternal.
They've lived countlesslifetimes in different bodies
and different cultures anddifferent experiences, sometimes
on this planet, sometimes onother planets, and sometimes

(05:00):
we've been healers, leaders, artists, warriors, mystics,
caregivers.
Each version of us was real andeach one left an energetic
fingerprint that you still carryto this day.
So whether you are drawn to aparticular time period or skill

(05:22):
or a place, it's just it's notrandom because these are
breadcrumbs from your soul'spast.
So maybe you have always beeninexplicably obsessed with
ancient Egypt or the Renaissanceor maybe the Celtic Isles.
Maybe you've had vivid dreams orscenes from living in another

(05:43):
era.
Or maybe you walk into a placefor the first time and feel this
electric familiarity, like yourspirit has already stood there
before.
And I know I personallyexperienced that when I traveled
to Edinburgh, Scotland.
There's been many places, butthere was something about flying

(06:05):
in and landing on the ground inEdinburgh, Scotland, and I felt
like I was home.
There was this remembrance, thisknowing, this electric charged
energy between me and the landthere, me and that city there,
that I could never explain in amillion years.
But those of you who have lovedwho have lived that and had that

(06:26):
experience, you know exactlywhat I'm talking about.
Because your soul has traveledall over the universe before
this moment.
And you hold these memoriesinside your energetic being.
Your clear senses might be ableto give you flashes of insight,

(06:46):
right?
You might be able to see visionsinside your mind, hear words or
phrases from past lifetimes, maybe this knowing or this
feeling as well.
You know, sometimes these pastlives show up in dreams or
flashes of memory when you meetsomebody who feels instantly
familiar to you.
And it's that real deep I knowyou feeling that you have with

(07:11):
some people, even though you'vejust met.
These are echoes of recognition.
This is your soul rememberinganother chapter it's already
lived.
So this Halloween, I'm gonna askyou to pay attention to those
breadcrumbs.
These are gentle nudges fromyour higher self saying,

(07:32):
remember who you've been.
You already know how to do this.
So when something comes reallyeasily to you, whether it's art
or leadership or again, healing,or maybe public speaking, music,
nurturing others, maybe you tooka Reiki class and the energy
flowed right through you.
It's often because your soul hasalready mastered that skill in
another lifetime.

(07:52):
And this is what is so freakingcool about working in the
metaphysical space is that youdon't have to start from
scratch.
You are simply remembering whatis already stored in your
energetic DNA.
And I think that's what makesthis season so powerful.
This veil is not thin justbetween the living and the
departed, but between you nowand then you that you have been

(08:16):
before.
And it's the perfect time toreconnect those energies and
bring forward the parts of youthat are wise, courageous, and
whole.
So let's talk about the funpart, the costumes.
This year, instead of justpicking one for fun, let's turn
this into this spiritualexperiment.

(08:38):
When you choose a costume, Iwant you to imagine you're
calling in one of your soul'sformer energies or trying on a
frequency that your spirit wantsto explore.
You're not pretending to besomebody else.
You're remembering a version ofyou that already exists.
And here's how to play with itintentionally.
So, number one is I want you tochoose the energy that you want
to embody.

(08:59):
So ask yourself, what quality orenergy do I need right now?
Maybe it's courage, maybe it'splayfulness, maybe it's
patience, maybe it's wisdom.
And use your intuition to guideyou to the cur the right
archetype.
If you're not sure what thatarchetype is, you can ask your

(09:21):
team to send you signs.
Ask her to ask your team to sendyou dreams, visions, people
talking about it, maybe posts onsocial media of a time, a place,
uh, an animal, an energy.
And when you see it, you'regonna know.
When you feel it, you're gonnaknow.
You're gonna get goosebumps, you're gonna like the truth
tingles, as I like to call it.

(09:42):
You're gonna have the sense ofknowing, you're gonna have the
sense of stop.
If you want to use a pendulum tosay, is this the right lifetime?
Is this the right energy I needto call in?
Is this the right archetype?
You can use it that way too.
Either way, identify what youwhat energy you want to embody
and let your team guide you tothe lifetime, the archetype that

(10:03):
you need to embrace and bring inthe energy of.
And once you find that lifetime, that archetype, that energy, I
want you to find a nice quietspace and do a ritual.
I want you to light a candle.
I want you to create a sacredspace, and I want you to invite
that beautiful archetype energy, that past life version of you

(10:25):
coming in and surrounding you.
If it helps, you can pictureyour past life self kind of
stepping forward in your mind, offering you their strength,
their grit, or their insight.
You might feel it kind of comeinto your energy field through
warmth, through a color, througha subtle inner knowing.

(10:45):
And then I want you what I wantyou to do, maybe you don't
experience any of these things, but know that it's happening.
But either way, what I want youto do is take that energy and
literally wear it as a costume.
Wear that energy on your energyfield and let it shift how you
move, how you speak, how youfeel.

(11:06):
It's almost like this energeticrehearsal, this way for your
nervous system to experience awhole new vibration in real
time.
And here's the fun part aboutthis is it's not like it's new
energy.
It's gonna feel a littledifferent, just like a new shirt
or a new pair of underwear, everybody.
I don't know.
Um, it's gonna feel a littledifferent to begin with, but

(11:28):
then it's gonna settle rightinto your energy because again,
this energy has already been apart of you.
It's just new for you in thislifetime, but it's not new for
your energy or your soul.
So it's gonna be a littlediscomfort and then it's gonna
fit right in like you never knewyou didn't have it.
And so some examples maybe toinspire you are if you need

(11:48):
confidence or leadership.
Maybe your team sends you a lionor a warrior, maybe Athena, uh,
maybe a beautiful powerfulhistorical figure like Napoleon.
I don't know why that waspopping up, that you've always
resonated with.
And you're going to bring intheir energy, their strength,
and let it flow through you andshift your posture and shift

(12:10):
your voice and shift your mannerof speaking.
If you need peace and balance, Imean, we're not just going off
the rails, we're gonna go offthe rails here.
Hang on.
We're not just going into yourpast lives, but you can channel
in like Mary Poppins' energy.
What was a lifetime that youwere just beautiful and grounded
and graceful and calm amidst thechaos?
Maybe you invite in the energyand essence of your grandmother

(12:33):
or a beloved ancestor whoembodied that steady love and
patience.
If you're burnt out, you canbring in the energy of you as a
child, curious, unfiltered,playful.
You can dress whimsically,right?
You can laugh too loud, you canmove without purpose, and you
can use your own inner childenergy into your aura to help

(12:58):
you feel more seen and loved.
If you are craving creativity ortransformation, you can bring in
an energy, a lifetime where youwere a past witch, right?
Where you were a past shaman, where maybe you had a lifetime
on Atlantis or Lemuria as amermaid, where you were a

(13:19):
wonderful, you know, starving,I'm gonna say it, artist in
Europe, right?
Uh in the time of theRenaissance.
Let your intuition andimagination lead you.
And if you feel like you want torise above the bullshit that is
out there right now, channel ina lifetime where you were a

(13:40):
pilot, where you were a bird, where you flew above it.
Channel in the energy of aphoenix, this the eternal symbol
of rebirth, and notice whatparts of you feel ready to rise
from the ashes.
And remember, this doesn't haveto be about the costume, right?
It can, you can literally embodythis energy through intention.

(14:03):
So even if you're not physicallyputting on a phoenix costume, do
they even sell those?
That'd be amazing if they did.
Um, you can call in theenergetic vibration of these
past lives, these ancestors, these archetypes that align with
what your soul needs right now,and you're putting on this
energy like it's its own jacketinto your auric field and giving

(14:23):
yourself permission toexperiment with this energy, to
try on different frequencies fora little while and see how it
changes your reality.
Because it's the most naturalkind of magic there is rooted in
remembrance, play, andembodiment, and you can't
measure it and you can't see it,but boy, does it fucking change
you.
So this year, when you chooseyour energetic costume or just

(14:48):
your intention, ask yourself, what energy does my soul want to
remember?
What part of me is ready to stepforward again?
And let this be this beautiful, joyful reunion between you and
your current self, you and thesedeities that you've worked with
in past lives, you and thesearchetypes, and let all of these
beautiful versions of you thathave been here before reignite

(15:15):
in your energy field, reignitein your memories, in your uh in
your frequency, in yourvibration.
Because you are not just onelifetime, you are many stories
woven into your beautiful,radiant soul.
And so as you celebrateHalloween this year, take a
moment not just to honor yourloved ones on the other side,

(15:37):
but also many lifetimes yoursoul has danced through.
Let your costume, your energy, your attention be a bridge
between who you've been and whoyou're becoming and ask your
guides what part of me wants tocome alive tonight.
And then let yourself play.
You might find that the personor energy you've been searching
for has been you all along.

(15:57):
It's already been within you,and you just haven't allowed it
the freedom to come out andexpress itself.
And so that's what I'll be doingthis Halloween is I will be
putting on my energetic costume.
I will be asking my guides totell me what coat, what energy,
what frequency I need to call inand weave into my story this
lifetime.

(16:18):
And I'd love to hear how it goesfor you, and I'll let you know
how it goes for me.
