Mediumship is an art of navigating between worlds, and one crucial decision every medium faces is whether to "go direct" by connecting with specific spirits requested by clients or allow any spirit to come through naturally.
Have you ever hoped for that one text message from someone special or anticipated a call that would make your day? This same desire drives most clients seeking mediumship readings—they want connection with specific loved ones. The question for mediums becomes: should we target these specific connections or allow the strongest spiritual energies to come through first?
Going direct carries immense pressure. As a medium, attempting to connect with a specific spirit can trigger anxiety that actually lowers your vibration, making successful connections more difficult. Yet many skilled mediums excel at this approach, using the vibration of names and relationships to establish powerful links. Alternatively, "spiritual roulette" allows mediums to connect with spirits matching their own energetic frequency, building power quickly before attempting more challenging connections. This approach also gives your spirit team opportunities to expand your abilities by bringing through energies you might unconsciously avoid.
The drawback? Your personal biases as a medium can limit which spirits come through. If you're uncomfortable with certain types of passing or relationships, you might unintentionally block the very spirits your client needs to hear from most. The most effective approach often combines both methods: begin with an open connection to build your energy, then attempt the specific connection your client desires. This serves everyone—medium, spirit, and sitter—by creating optimal conditions for meaningful messages.

I am excited today to talkabout going direct in mediumship
Now.
This topic's been on my listfor a little while and, true to
form, I haven't felt the desireto record this until after I had
a recent run in at a mediumshipdemonstration.
That really changed my thinkingor, at least I don't know, gave

me additional thoughts on thistopic.
So I'm actually really excitedthat this recently happened,
like all everything that happensin perfect timing, and I'm
really excited to chat aboutthis with all of you today.
Now, and so when we're talkingabout going direct, I want to
talk about the pros, the cons,what I've seen, how I kind of
approach it Because, just forthe record, there is no right
answer to this today.

So this is more informativeagain for you to be able to walk
away with what's the bestchoice for me, and I don't even
know if the choice that you'dpick today is going to be the
choice that you'd pick in a yearfrom now, if you're practicing
or professional medium, becauseto me this changes as well.
And so let me talk about it,because there's a lot of varying
opinions and I actually loveall of the different
(01:04):
perspectives and value all thedifferent perspectives on this.
Going direct essentially meansthat we are going to connect
with a very specific spirit thatour client has asked for.
So we're going to identify themby name, by relationship, et
cetera, and pull that specificspirit through for a reading
(01:25):
because the client wants tocontinue.
The conversation has closurethat they need with this person,
whatever reason, whatever haveyou, and they want to hear from
a specific person.
I mean, don't we all want thatreally Like?
Don't we all hope for the textfrom that one person that we
love in our life?
Don't we all hope for that onephone call, that one run-in of
(01:49):
somebody that just like, blowsyour socks off you're so excited
to hear?
So it's only natural that ourclients, our sitters, want a
specific person to come throughand for a lot of mediums this
can be a total like mindfuck interms of trying to pull a
specific spirit through, becauseit's hard enough.

I have to be honest with you toconnect with departed loved
ones, dead people and trustwhat's coming through.
But when a client comes thiswas my experience personally, if
it's not your experience it'sfreaking amazing.
But when I was starting to godirect, I would have heart
palpitations and I would get soin my head that, oh shit, now
it's not just like give me anyof your loved ones, which feels
(02:32):
hard enough as it is, now I haveto give you one specific loved
one, and so that always made meso nervous, it lowered my
vibration so much and then Ilike for the first few times few
times, let's say like 40 times,right it, it was a shot in the
dark and it never went well.
So going direct for me was wasa really, really big challenge.

For a long time I didn't likeit.
I used to get in my head, Iused to come with biases because
if someone said you know a sonthat came through, I might see
them as I don't know a 20something person, but maybe they
died at birth, right, and so Inever felt super confident when
I started my mediumship journey.
Going direct it just wasn't forme.

For a lot of mediums I see aton of success in being able to
go direct and pull a spiritthrough and it almost gives them
this breath of release.
And I think some people arejust more apt to be able to
connect with specific soulsthrough the vibration of their
name, through the vibration ofthe relationship and it's like
(03:38):
piece of cake for them.
I love that, I love that.
And so if going direct so here's, I guess, pause for a second.
Here is the real thing.
Almost every client wants tohear from a specific loved one.
So if going direct feels goodfor you, go direct.
(03:59):
Ask your client who they wantto hear from.
Give them the chance at thebeginning of the room to say do
you have a specific name orrelationship that you you know,
whatever you prefer that youwould like to hear from?
Now let's go to the other sideof the house, because I think a
lot of people might hear thatand think that doesn't sound
(04:21):
very ethical to me.
Because now, if your clientsays I'm looking for my departed
husband, right Now, you knowshe has a departed husband and
now you can probably assume alot of things that probably
around the same age, right, theyprobably have similar interests
, right.
So it makes it a lot easier todo the reading sometimes if you
(04:43):
hear that information, I know.
And so for those of you thatmaybe are less apt, less
confident in going direct, youcan do what I call spiritual
roulette and just see who wantsto come through, and so I think
this is a much safer start for alot of mediums because you're

leaving the gate wide open andthere's quite a few benefits to
leaving the gate wide open andI'm going to say the benefits
are typically on the medium sideof the house and not the sitter
side of the house, but I'mgoing to hopefully get to that.
So the benefits for you as themedium on playing spiritual
(05:30):
roulette is you are essentiallycalling in the strongest
vibration that is likely goingto be the easiest for you to
read, and so I hope this answersa lot of people's questions
about, like, who tends to comethrough in these readings.
The soul that matches thevibration of the mediums are
(05:52):
going to be the vibrations thatare most clear, easy to
understand and the connectionsthat the medium is the most
likely going to pull through.
So let me give you a reallygood example is I can pull
through grumpy ass grandmotherslike nobody's fucking business.
Why?
Because I grew up in a familyfull of grumpy ass grandmothers,
(06:15):
grumpy ass old women.
So those grumpy ass old womento me are a really, really
strong vibration because I'mused to that energy and so
they're the ones who tend tocome through first if I just
open up to spirit, because thespirits that I am most
comfortable with are going to bethe ones that are the strongest
in my vibration.

So if you have a grumpy grandmaand you're getting a reading by
me and you tell me, I don'tcare who comes through,
fantastic, here comes yourgrumpy grandma, because that's
just naturally how it's going togo right, because that's the
easiest for me to read.
So that's kind of how itbenefits the medium right off
the bat.
Is you're going to get a spiritin quickly that is going to
(06:59):
build your power and build yourvibration faster and make the
spiritual connection stronger tobegin with.
Now, that's a benefit for themedium because you're not going
on the struggle bus trying topull a departed person through
that maybe you're less familiarwith, less comfortable with, and
instead you're going to buildthat power really fast and then,

if they want to hear fromsomebody else or if you want to
pull in another spirit afteryour power is already there,
you're riding that wave, and sothat's a huge, huge plus from a
medium's perspective is you'repicking those cherries off that
cherry tree and you're going toride it into the next spirit.
It's awesome, it's awesome.
So another benefit from amedium's perspective is your

team will pull through spiritsthat this is a little
controversial.
My team is saying spirits thatare going to be the best spirits
for you to learn from.
So in this instance I would say, particularly with practice
sitters and practice circles,working and pulling in whatever

spirit comes through gives yourteam a chance to shove through
the types of spirits you need towork on.
So maybe you're really reallygood, like me, at grandparents
and you're not so good at sons,daughters, children, and maybe
spirit is just like, finally,she's finally wide open to
receiving it.
I'm literally going to send awhole bunch of children through,

right, I'm going to send themthrough so that you start
getting used to the vibration ofchildren, even though you're a
little more averse to it and youdon't like it.
So it gives you a chance totrust your team on expanding
your mediumship skill set, yourhorizons, the types of people
and souls that you're reading,so that you're building your
(08:44):
spiritual vocabulary, signs andsymbols, vocabulary that allows
you to obviously become a bettermedium with more practice.
So that is benefit number two.
I'm not sure what benefitnumber three is, but we at least
got through two Now.
Well, I guess there's.
It was like one A and one B.

One A is it's easier for you,one B is that you can use that
energy to ride, ride it throughto the next spirit.
So all right, so we got, we gotlike three there.

that overdose maybe you don'thave anyone in your life that

energy field.
It's not because you're notright, it's not personal for
these spirits, it's not likeyou're purposely trying to avoid
them, it's just that it's a lotharder to get through your
energy.
It's not as easy as the thingsthat you're familiar with and so
inherently, you end up havingthese biases towards the spirits

that are going to come througheasily for you.
So, again, if you are somebodywho does not like to work with
young people that have died, ifyou do not like to, if you have
a toxic relationship with yourfamily and you don't have a good
relationship with your dad.

like pulling narcissistic peoplethrough, because it triggers
you, and so you're naturallygoing to resist certain
connections, certain spirits,energetically, subconsciously,
because it makes youuncomfortable.
And so when you're opening upto spirit roulette, you may be

blocking the connection thatyour client needs and it sucks,
right, it really sucks, becausethe people who are going to come
through are going to be theones you're comfortable with,
but not necessarily the one thesitter needs the most, and so
that is a huge con of spiritualroulette.

Another one other pro sorry, Iknew there was one more.
One other pro.
I want to say with spiritualroulette is well, hang on, it
goes with the con.
Okay, so it goes with.
What I just said is that youmight pull spirits through that
your sitter doesn't necessarilycare about nor want to hear from

Okay, that's a con for thesitter, but a lot of times, as
the medium, this is going waydown the rabbit hole.
I hope you're enjoying this Alot of times as the medium,
there is always purpose to whoyou are pulling through, because
even if you're pulling througha distant cousin that maybe you

met once or twice at a party, afamily party, and you really
don't know anything about them,but you are able to validate
that this person is comingthrough.
There might be a reason thatthat specific well, there is a
reason why that specific spiritis coming through, because that
specific spirit is either comingthrough with a specific message
(12:30):
that they want you to give toprovide healing to other people,
right, but also, at the sametime, that spirit might be the
best spirit to deliver a messageor piece of advice that you
need to hear.
So, case in point I had did Iever talk about this?
(12:52):
Did I talk about?
No, I'm not going to.
I'm going to give it adifferent example.
Hang on a second Cause.
I feel like I just gave thisexample, so let me see if spirit
will bring up another one.
Um, for example, let's justtalk about, like an ancestral
healing event right now.
Okay, so I might pull through agreat grandmother that you
(13:12):
didn't know, that I'm trying torelate to you.
You don't know anything abouther, but we're able to place who
this is and she might be theexact energy and wisdom and
strength that you need currentlyin your life.
And so if I pulled that from adifferent member of the family,
that message wouldn't be asimportant or as strong or as
(13:35):
relevant.
And I know that sounds like aweird reference.
I'm sure I could have done thatbetter, apologies, but there is
always purpose to who's comingthrough and what message comes
with that.
So I do think that, even thoughthe sitter may not be expecting
it and it's not necessarily thebest, most expected use of
(13:59):
their time, not necessarily whatthey want, it tends to be what
they need and it honors thepurpose of delivering the
highest and best intention foryour client.
So that's like a negative thatturns into a positive.
And so when you put all thesetogether going direct, not going
(14:19):
direct, playing spiritual orroulette I think inherently
there's pluses and minuses,obviously to both of these, as
we've discussed, but I think youget the best case scenario when
you combine the two.
So if you are doing a multiplespirit reading or if you have a
(14:39):
longer practice session or alonger client session, what can
be so cool is starting withspiritual roulette.
Bring through who is going tohelp you build your power, who
is going to help you make theconnection feel good, someone
that your energy, is friendlyand open to and is able to
(15:01):
receive.
Start there.
And then, once you wrap up thatreading, ask the sitter who
they want to hear from, becausethen you're getting the best of
both worlds.
Then you are serving your ownenergy by optimizing your path
to connection.
Then you are also servingspirit by allowing a spirit to
(15:25):
come through that needs todeliver a message to the sitter
that they need to hear, and thenyou're opening it up for a
direct connection for who thesitter wants to hear.
And to me that sounds like theperfect blend, the perfect
reading, where you're givingeverybody exactly what they need
(15:47):
I mean especially your sitter,but like you as well, everybody
what they need I mean especiallyyour sitter, but like you as
well, everybody what they needto walk away feeling really good
about this reading.
And I'm not saying that youshould do spiritual roulette for
you and your energy to build itright, but I am saying that
(16:09):
your client is going to benefitif you can get a spirit that
allows you to connect as soon aspossible, instead of fumbling
through and guessing if goingdirect is not as easy for you,
going through and fumbling for15 minutes trying to figure out
who the spirit is, if you canopen up your energy to someone
that's familiar with you, getthat spirit right away, land it
(16:32):
in five to seven minutes, thenyou've saved yourself seven
minutes more that you're goingto have a killer reading with
your client.
And so I like because I feltthis like when I said it's going
to benefit you as the medium,it's also going to benefit the
sitter.
It is mutually beneficial, andso I'm going to challenge you to
toy around with it.

What feels really good for you?
If you always go direct, trydoing spiritual roulette and see
what comes through.
If you always do spiritualroulette, try going direct and
see how that feels and how thatworks for you, especially if
you've gotten into a pattern.
Right, if you are getting intoa pattern where you're always
(17:13):
getting grandparents or you'realways getting uncles, or you're
always getting this, you canopen it up to spiritual roulette
and be like guides.
I need something new, I needsomething fresh, and they'll
work with you on deliveringsomething fresh, and you can let
your team, like you can trustyour team that they're going to
(17:34):
bring in the spirits that aregoing to be most beneficial for
you in practice readings.
So there you have it.
So, in case you haven't heard,like I don't think there is a
bad side to any of this.
I think, especially as you'redeveloping, choose whatever path
feels best for you to continueto develop your skills and once
you start taking clients ifyou're taking clients, you know

you'll now know how to navigatethis, because if you go direct
and you're finding it's not agreat reading, you're having
trouble, the connection's notgreat.
Just be like, all right, well,I'm just going to put Uncle Bob
on the back burner and then I'mgoing to go and see who wants to
come in first to help me buildmy power and then we'll go back
to Uncle Bob like it's fine too.
Right Again, win, win for youand your client in helping this

even if you're pulling througha distant cousin that maybe you

met once or twice at a party, afamily party, and you really
don't know anything about them,but you are able to validate
that this person is comingthrough.
There might be a reason thatthat specific well, there is a
reason why that specific spiritis coming through, because that
specific spirit is either comingthrough with a specific message
(12:30):
that they want you to give toprovide healing to other people,
right, but also, at the sametime, that spirit might be the
best spirit to deliver a messageor piece of advice that you
need to hear.
So, case in point I had did Iever talk about this?
(12:52):
Did I talk about?
No, I'm not going to.
I'm going to give it adifferent example.
Hang on a second Cause.
I feel like I just gave thisexample, so let me see if spirit
will bring up another one.
Um, for example, let's justtalk about, like an ancestral
healing event right now.
Okay, so I might pull through agreat grandmother that you
(13:12):
didn't know, that I'm trying torelate to you.
You don't know anything abouther, but we're able to place who
this is and she might be theexact energy and wisdom and
strength that you need currentlyin your life.
And so if I pulled that from adifferent member of the family,
that message wouldn't be asimportant or as strong or as
(13:35):
relevant.
And I know that sounds like aweird reference.
I'm sure I could have done thatbetter, apologies, but there is
always purpose to who's comingthrough and what message comes
with that.
So I do think that, even thoughthe sitter may not be expecting
it and it's not necessarily thebest, most expected use of
(13:59):
their time, not necessarily whatthey want, it tends to be what
they need and it honors thepurpose of delivering the
highest and best intention foryour client.
So that's like a negative thatturns into a positive.
And so when you put all thesetogether going direct, not going
(14:19):
direct, playing spiritual orroulette I think inherently
there's pluses and minuses,obviously to both of these, as
we've discussed, but I think youget the best case scenario when
you combine the two.
So if you are doing a multiplespirit reading or if you have a
(14:39):
longer practice session or alonger client session, what can
be so cool is starting withspiritual roulette.
Bring through who is going tohelp you build your power, who
is going to help you make theconnection feel good, someone
that your energy, is friendlyand open to and is able to
(15:01):
receive.
Start there.
And then, once you wrap up thatreading, ask the sitter who
they want to hear from, becausethen you're getting the best of
both worlds.
Then you are serving your ownenergy by optimizing your path
to connection.
Then you are also servingspirit by allowing a spirit to
(15:25):
come through that needs todeliver a message to the sitter
that they need to hear, and thenyou're opening it up for a
direct connection for who thesitter wants to hear.
And to me that sounds like theperfect blend, the perfect
reading, where you're givingeverybody exactly what they need
(15:47):
I mean especially your sitter,but like you as well, everybody
what they need I mean especiallyyour sitter, but like you as
well, everybody what they needto walk away feeling really good
about this reading.
And I'm not saying that youshould do spiritual roulette for
you and your energy to build itright, but I am saying that
(16:09):
your client is going to benefitif you can get a spirit that
allows you to connect as soon aspossible, instead of fumbling
through and guessing if goingdirect is not as easy for you,
going through and fumbling for15 minutes trying to figure out
who the spirit is, if you canopen up your energy to someone
that's familiar with you, getthat spirit right away, land it
(16:32):
in five to seven minutes, thenyou've saved yourself seven
minutes more that you're goingto have a killer reading with
your client.
And so I like because I feltthis like when I said it's going
to benefit you as the medium,it's also going to benefit the
sitter.
It is mutually beneficial, andso I'm going to challenge you to
toy around with it.
(16:52):
What feels really good for you?
If you always go direct, trydoing spiritual roulette and see
what comes through.
If you always do spiritualroulette, try going direct and
see how that feels and how thatworks for you, especially if
you've gotten into a pattern.
Right, if you are getting intoa pattern where you're always
(17:13):
getting grandparents or you'realways getting uncles, or you're
always getting this, you canopen it up to spiritual roulette
and be like guides.
I need something new, I needsomething fresh, and they'll
work with you on deliveringsomething fresh, and you can let
your team, like you can trustyour team that they're going to
(17:34):
bring in the spirits that aregoing to be most beneficial for
you in practice readings.
So there you have it.
So, in case you haven't heard,like I don't think there is a
bad side to any of this.
I think, especially as you'redeveloping, choose whatever path
feels best for you to continueto develop your skills and once
you start taking clients ifyou're taking clients, you know
(17:59):
you'll now know how to navigatethis, because if you go direct
and you're finding it's not agreat reading, you're having
trouble, the connection's notgreat.
Just be like, all right, well,I'm just going to put Uncle Bob
on the back burner and then I'mgoing to go and see who wants to
come in first to help me buildmy power and then we'll go back
to Uncle Bob like it's fine too.
Right Again, win, win for youand your client in helping this
(18:21):
be the best reading possible.
So there you have it.
