Veronica (00:06):
Welcome to the
Veronica Edwards show, where we
have fun financial conversationsthat everyone listening can
apply to their personal andprofessional life.
I'm your host, veronica Edwards, so excited and blessed to be
back after summer break to kickoff season four of the Veronica
Edwards show.
(00:26):
I can't believe it's alreadybeen four seasons and almost
three years that I've beenblessed to have this show.
I want to thank the V Team.
Those are the listeners thathave been downloading the
podcast.
We were really pushing lastseason to hit 4,000 downloads
and not only do we hit 4,000,we're getting closer to 4,500.
(00:48):
So the goal of 5,000 downloads, which is just an extra thousand
in season five, is definitelydoable.
So thank you guys.
So much so to kick off seasonfour, I'm doing a opener
monologue.
So this show is going to beairing the first week of
September and when I tell youI'm so ready for 2025, it's
(01:09):
definitely been a rewarding year, but it's been a challenging
year.
I don't know if you guyslistened to my beginning of the
year and mid-year monologuewhere I shared on the business
side.
This is my first year, eventhough Balance, virtually, is
six years old.
This is the first year I'm 100%in the business.
This is my first year, eventhough balance virtually is six
years old.
This is the first year I'm 100%in the business, that I'm not
(01:30):
getting significant income fromanywhere outside of my clients.
So it definitely has been alearning experience.
But I definitely want businessowners listening to know your
business will continue to evolve, just like yourself, just like
a relationship.
So don't be afraid to let someclients go to get new clients,
(01:51):
to completely take a look backand figure out, okay, what
worked, what didn't work, andthat's basically what I've been
doing this year.
The summer was very slow in agood way.
I was intentional in notwanting to add new clients, but
I also lost some clients and itgave me time to figure out well,
what do I want to do?
(02:12):
Over the last two years I'vebeen heavy in small minority
businesses, specificallynonprofits, and it gave me a
wealth of experience andknowledge.
But I have learned that I tendto more like to help those
businesses in the startup phaseand then transition them off to
(02:32):
an accounting firm that can workwith them on a month-to-month
basis.
I'm definitely finding that Iam truly virtually based.
Balance Virtually is a virtualcompany and that's hard when
you're supporting smallnonprofits and they need your
assistance, they need to touchand feel you and they need you
physically in the office.
I also learned that I don'twant to do churches and I don't
(02:55):
want to do schools.
It's very hands-on A lot oftimes.
Those institutions have beenaround for a while, so they want
to write checks and they don'tnecessarily want to do things
online and that is totally OK.
But I'm learning in this phasein my business that I need to
say no, because I tried it, itdidn't work and for me I need to
(03:17):
be mobile, I need to beflexible.
I have a young child, I haveolder family members that live
out of town, so for me it wasgreat kind of shedding this year
and it's exciting going intothe rest of the year, in 2025,
because I have a more clearscope on what I want to focus on
.
Cfo services please send me ashout out on the connect page of
(03:39):
balancevirtuallycom.
And then, as for the VeronicaEdwards show for season four,
I'm definitely going to befocusing on having more young
entrepreneurs and communityadvocates locally in the
Carolinas.
(03:59):
This was a great suggestionfrom the number one VT member,
my mom, dorothy Vaughn, andshe's absolutely right.
The children and the youth areour future and I definitely want
to highlight that it does notmatter if you are under 18 years
old.
You are still capable of beingan entrepreneur.
You're capable of being acommunity advocate.
(04:19):
I almost argue that you havemore of an influence when you're
younger.
It's something about seeingyoung people be excited about
something that's positive andhelping the community and
creating generational wealth.
How do you not get goosebumpseven thinking about it?
So one of these young peoplethat I have in mind, that I've
been talking about in my mind ofher being on the show for
(04:40):
almost a year we just have toget our schedules to line up is
Ayanna Joyner.
She is a family friend.
Both of her entrepreneurparents have been on the show
season three Deidre and LamarJoyner.
Ms Deidre Joyner is a therapistand Mr Lamar Joyner is a serial
entrepreneur.
He's a realtor and he focuseson those in the military, also
(05:02):
relocating in the low countryarea.
He's a DJ, he's an announcer,he's an IT person.
He's all the things.
Very special, special, family.
So definitely want to haveyoung people like Ayana, who's
more into the arts.
She's amazing, can do anythingwhen it comes to hair, amazing
dancer, just an amazing youngperson.
(05:23):
So I would love to have her onif her schedule allows.
I'm also going to be finalizingthe third part in a three-part
series of the firearm safetyseries I've been doing with Biz
Radio's own producer and firearmsafety expert, mr Aaron Matan.
So, if you guys recall, if yougo back to part one and part two
(05:46):
, aaron came over to my houseand he provided about three
hours of firearm safety withmyself and my husband, carlos.
If you go on social mediayou'll see Carlos shooting an
AR-15.
Aaron was nice enough to bringa couple of his pistols to the
house.
No ammunition, because welearning about dry drills, which
(06:09):
is so key, just like we havefire drills and we have tornado
drills.
We need to have drills ifsomething was to happen when you
do own a firearm.
And the second part that we didwas that we actually went to the
shooting range and I don't wantto misquote it, but I believe
it is the Wildlife Commissionout in Canton, close by Logan
(06:31):
Park.
I believe it is.
And it's amazing.
Now that I've had my firstexperience shooting a gun
outside, I don't think I everwant to go to a shooting range
that's inside.
It felt super safe.
Everybody was so kind, me andmy husband's going out in the
middle of nowhere and we're verymelanin and nobody was giving
us a side eye.
Everybody was very nice.
Everybody was very welcoming.
It was an amazing experience.
(06:53):
It's even motivated my76-year-old aunt to want to go
back to the shooting range.
I totally forgot that my aunt, working for the subway system
for over 20 years, carried, Ibelieve, a .45.
So she's ready to get back.
(07:15):
You know, working on hershooting skills, which it's
never too late to go back to theshooting range.
So again, those that arefirearm holders or part of the
gun community, the gun culture, don't forget you have to
practice, so make sure thatyou're going out to the shooting
range.
I also want to shout out MissBrandy Mills.
She came on the show the end ofseason three.
We're going to have her back.
She is the owner of BrandyMills Consulting and the author
(07:37):
of Woman you Are Strong, a21-day face it so you can fix it
journey.
I've personally gone throughthis journey where every day
there's different topics, suchas disappointment, overwhelm,
self-doubt, and it forces you tokind of list well, when does
this happen and how does it makeyou feel and what can you do to
(07:58):
make sure that you can overcomethis and it's such a powerful
movement that she has going on.
So I definitely want to haveher back on for season four
because she has a Woman StrongEmpowerment Summit that's going
to be happening at AB Tech herein Asheville September 20th.
So please support her.
Go to brandymillsconsultingcom.
(08:19):
She'll definitely be on, I'mhoping, before her summit, so
she can promote that and all thegreat things that she's doing
in this area andbeyond.
And on a personal note, beforewe go, I definitely want to talk
about how much I've beenfocusing more on my health and
my wellness, and also my husband.
In recent, carlos lost 20pounds.
(08:41):
Well, actually, yeah, 20 pounds.
My mom has lost 20 pounds and,as we know, 80% of your health
and wellness is what you eat,and so we've been exercising and
we've been healthy, but forwhatever reason, it was like,
okay, the scales keep going upand down, up and down.
Well, we definitely started todial in and we realized, like
(09:03):
everybody talks about, the olderyou get the devil sugar.
Sugar was the biggest thingthat was causing issues in our
diet if it was in the form ofalcohol, juices, carbs.
So we really are focusing moreon whole foods.
We already eat prettyplant-based and dairy-free, but
it didn't matter if we were justfocusing so much on these heavy
(09:26):
carbs and sugars and things ofthat sort.
So I definitely feel like I'min the best shape that I've ever
been in being 42 years old, andI think it's the same for my
husband and my mom, who is 69years young.
So I just want to encourageeveryone listening to go back to
(09:47):
some of the prior Eat, sleep, move your Feet wellness episodes
we have with Miss Jade Williams.
I'm also wanting to have herback in September for season
four to continue to encouragefolks about how important your
health and wellness is.
You know, being 42, I'm readingmore and more about how we
(10:08):
still have time to change theoutlook for
ourselves.
Things that you can do that canreduce your chances of cancer,
reduce your chances of dementia, increasing your strength.
So if you do fall, you havestrong bones and muscles things
that when I was younger I waslike I don't want to bulk up, I
don't want to do these things.
But okay, if you bulk up, thenjust pull back a little bit.
(10:29):
But I definitely encourage youjust to get some five pounds or
some eight pound dumbbells, oryou can get some two or three
pound weights around your anklesand you can just do things
around the house.
You can squat when you go inthe bathroom, when you're
vacuuming, when you're sweeping.
You can do plank holds, you canact like you're sitting in a
chair against the wall.
It's so many simple things thatyou can do, but, most
(10:51):
importantly, really payattention to what you're
actually fueling your body with, and try to drink as much water
and veggies and all that stufffirst before you eat some of the
things that you like.
You can still eat those things, but it's all about
moderation.
So that's my kickoff for seasonfour.
I definitely want to invite theV team to send me a DM on
(11:15):
Facebook or Instagram or emailme via my website,
balancevirtuallycom.
If you want to be a guest onseason four, if you know of any
good guests, if there's anytopics that you're like, we want
you to discuss this during theCPA chat or during Eat, sleep,
move your Feet our health andwellness segment.
I would love for your feedbackbecause without the V Team,
(11:37):
without you guys listening, Iwould not be here for season
four.
So I'm really, really, reallyexcited to continue to meet
amazing people in the greaterAsheville area and beyond that I
can feature on the show.
So please tune in this seasonfor the Veronica Edwards show on
