Hello, Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Victims
Voice. Today's episode is part one in
the case of Kyron Horman, a little boy who is missing from
Portland, OR. Let's go ahead and jump right
in. 7 year old Kyron Horman vanished on Friday morning.
The Tree Frog project he createdfor Skyline Elementary's science

(00:57):
fair that very morning now sits in his empty classroom.
Aloma County Sheriff's deputies say his stepmother took this
picture of Kyron when they were at the science fair.
As she left at 8:45 in the morning, she says Kyron was
walking towards his classroom. But a Portland Public school
spokesperson says Kyron was marked absent by his teacher
when class started at 10. When Kyron did not get off the

(01:21):
bus after school, nearly seven hours after he was last seen,
investigators say his stepmom quickly called Skyline.
Within hours, waves of search and rescue crews and even the
FBI showed up to the school Saturday.
The National Guard searched fromabove while hundreds of
searchers looked through tall grass on the ground about 3

(01:41):
miles from the school. Researchers scoured the
backyards of Kyron's neighbors. Homeowners hung posters from
their doors and hope someone mayspot him in this rural area.
Back, back past that, there's miles of nothing.
Investigators say they are leaving no stone unturned.
At what point do you look at this as a kid missing versus
some sort of foul play? Well, this is a missing person's

(02:04):
investigation and we're coordinating it as such, but we
keep all possibilities open. To add to the mounds of
information on Kyron's whereabouts, they are now asking
all students, parents, staff or even guests at Friday science
Fair to come back to the school Sunday morning to be
interviewed. Any piece of information is
important. Any little detail could be the

(02:27):
one that brings Kyron home to. US the morning of June 4th, 2010
was an exciting one for 7 1/2 year old Kyron Horman.
Normally he would have taken thebus to Skyline Elementary
School, but this morning was different.
He was riding with his stepmom Terry and his 19 month old
sister Kay so that they could attend Family Day at his school

(02:49):
where all the students would be showing their loved ones the
science fair projects that they had all worked so hard on.
Kyron was especially proud of his it was a diorama of the Red
Eyed Tree frog. It detailed the life cycle of
the frog and explained that it had developed its humongous red
eyes to shock predators, giving it a second to hop to safety.

(03:13):
He had worked really hard on this project and couldn't wait
to show it off to his stepmom, teachers, and friends.
That morning, Kyron and his dad,Kane had a moment to talk before
they each began their day. Kane told him how proud he was
of all the time and effort that he had put into his project and
promised that when he got home from school that day they would

(03:36):
play some video games on the Wii.
Kane told Kyron he loved him andKyron answered with I love you
too, Dad. Little did Kane know, that would
be the last time he would ever hear those words from his son.
The school was opening at 8:00 AM that morning instead of its
regular time of 8:30, and all 7 doors of the school would be

(03:59):
unlocked and available for the students and their families to
enter. Terry, Kyron, and Kay piled into
Kane's white 2005 Ford F-250 four door extended cab truck and
headed to Skyline Elementary. Terry admittedly almost never
drove the truck. She preferred her Candy Apple

(04:20):
Red Mustang GT with the vanity plate that said RDSQRL which
meant Red Squirrel. This was because of her red hair
and the nickname that Kane had given her.
She had delivered Kyron's project to the school the day
before, so it's unclear why she chose to drive the truck that

(04:40):
morning. She would later say it was so
she could bring his project homethat day, but if that was the
case, it would be after school that it would come home, not
that morning. However, all the projects were
going to stay on display at the school until the following
Tuesday, which is when summer vacation started for the
students. The school was packed that

(05:02):
morning with hundreds of people, from parents to grandparents to
students and siblings. According to Terry, they first
went to Kyron's classroom so he could hang up his jacket and
backpack. He was in Missus Porter's class
Room 213 and the southwest corner of the main floor of the
school. Four of his friends, including a

(05:22):
little girl named Ellie, remember seeing Kyron in the
classroom that morning. Ellie's mother, Alice Jacobson.
He also remembered seeing him ashe made his way to his project
so that Terry could take a picture of him standing next to
it. Little did anyone know at the
time, but that picture would be seen by millions of people

(05:43):
across the country because it would be the last picture taken
of Kyron. With his big toothy smile, Big
Blue eyes and his wire framed glasses, Kyron was an adorable
little boy. That day he had been wearing one
of his favorite shirts, his CSI shirt.
In the fall of 2009, a forensic exhibit came to the Oregon

(06:07):
Museum of Science and Industry in Portland.
He bought this shirt from the gift shop.
It was a black T-shirt that saidCSI on the front in green
letters, along with a handprint and a double Helix.
Tyron loved science, especially forensic science.
This was probably because all four of his parents were into

(06:29):
crime shows, especially Dexter and the fact that his stepdad,
Tony Young, was a detective, which is what Kyron wanted to be
when he grew up, Terry said. She took the picture of Kyron at
around 8:45 AM that morning. Then they headed to the basement
of the school so that Kyron could visit the classroom of his

(06:50):
previous teacher, Scott Macbeth.Once the bell was getting ready
to ring, Terry, Kyron and Kay made their way back upstairs.
However, this is when things started to get strange and
Terry's retelling of the events.Terry said that she and Kyron
decided to go back upstairs using two different staircases.
Kyron took one set at one end ofthe school, while Terry and Kay

(07:14):
took the set at the other end ofthe school.
If they were together downstairsand both were going back
upstairs, then why not take the same staircase?
Terry said. When they both got to the top of
their said staircases, she was at the East End of the hallway
by the gym and he was at the other end, closer to his
classroom. She said.

(07:34):
She waved goodbye to him and he waved back as she watched.
Then Kyron Horman vanished. Before we talk about the rest of
what happened on that day, I'm going to talk about the family
dynamics and how Terry came to be Kyron's stepmother.
Because from the beginning things were misconstrued due to

(07:54):
bad reporting and talking to people who really had no clue
what they were talking about. Immediately after Kyron went
missing, lies and rumors were spreading like wildfire through
media sources because they were getting their so-called facts
through people other than Kyron's mother Desiree Young and
his dad Kane Horman. Since at the beginning of the

(08:16):
investigation, they were not talking to the media as they
were advised not to by law enforcement, Carol Moulton, who
was Kyron's stepmother, Terry's mother, told a reporter that
Terry was Kyron's mom and that she had been the one to raise
him from the beginning. Another lie was that Desiree and
Terry had been friends at one time and after Desiree and

(08:39):
Kane's divorce, Terry innocentlystarted staying at Kane's house
to help him with Kyron, Kane's sister-in-law.
Amanda Howard's was even quoted saying when someone had to watch
the baby, Terry was her friend. She moved in just to help with
the baby. They said it was only then that
their relationship blossomed into something romantic, even

(09:03):
though in reality their relationship started as an
affair. Terry and Desiree had never ever
been friends. Terry was the other woman who
was messing around with the man who had a pregnant wife at home.
One news outlet in particular, The Oregonian, only interviewed

(09:23):
Terry's friends and family afterKyron went missing, therefore
releasing false information in the book Boy Missing The Search
for Kyron Horman by Rebecca Morris Desiree stated quote,
they didn't check facts or sources.
None of those interviewed were Kyron's family.
They didn't seem to care that they put an entire article out

(09:45):
about a missing child with falseinformation.
End Quote. One Oregonian reporter showed up
at an event held to get information out about the case
and didn't know any details about Kyron at all, and another
pronounced his name wrong. Eventually a meeting was had
with the managing editor and shewas told that they would lose

(10:07):
access to Kane, Desiree and Tonyif they didn't start fact
checking and focusing on Kyron and not family drama.
Let's talk about the members of Kyron's family for a minute.
To give you some context into the true relationships between
everyone, Kyron Richard Horman was born September 9th, 2002 to

(10:31):
Desiree and Kane Horman. Kane and Desiree's marriage was
already on the rocks by that time and had been for quite a
while. Desiree had found out she was
pregnant with Kyron in January of 2002.
She believed that Kane was already seeing other people by
that time and the two were goingto separate, but Kane's mom

(10:52):
talked him into giving their marriage another chance.
They started marriage counselingin February of 2002, but Kane
stopped going in June. In July, one of Kane's friends
told Desiree that Kane was seeing someone else while still
married to Desiree, who was about to have the baby.

(11:13):
Kane had met Terry Moulton at a restaurant and the two had begun
seeing each other in April of 2002, three months earlier.
This LED Desiree to start looking for evidence and boy did
she find it. She found a letter and a
checklist in Kane's briefcase. Here is what it said, quote

(11:35):
Kane. To survive this you will have to
trust me. Contact an attorney.
Ask about custody and open adoptions.
She can head you in the right direction.
Transfer all unnecessary money to an account with only your
parents name on it. Take her name off of stocks,

(11:57):
money market, Iras, 4O1K etcetera.
This includes benefits as well. Put all account info, banks,
MMIRAS, etcetera, including any paperwork with your driver's
license number and Social Security number on it and a
safety deposit box at a bank she's not at.

(12:20):
Have lots of sex with me unless you are 125% sure.
Have adna test done. You would be amazed at what I've
seen in my line of work. Document everything.
Make sure if you decide to keep the child that you claim this
year is single and to begin alternating years of claiming as

(12:43):
a dependent. Contact your lawyer with the
stipulations as you want. Hit Desiree hard and fast.
End Quote. Immediately after finding this,
Desiree moved into another bedroom and immediately made an
appointment with a lawyer. Desiree would later say that

(13:07):
while she was still in the house, she could hear someone
sneaking in late at night and meeting Kane in the master
bedroom. Also, Desiree found out that she
had contracted an STD from Kane that caused her to have
premature contractions. Then if that wasn't the icing on

(13:27):
the cake, while she was in the hospital and labor with Kyron,
Terry came strolling into Desiree's hospital room looking
for Kane. The audacity is all I can say.
Desiree and newborn Kyron cominghome from the hospital didn't
slow Kane's relationship with Terry down.

(13:50):
Desiree remembers a day not longafter Kyron was born when she
wanted to spend some time with Quinn, so Kane offered to take
the baby for a while. Desiree had never questioned
Kane on where he went with Kyronthat day.
But seven years later, the day that Kyron went missing, Desiree
found out she and Kane were in Kyron's room talking while the

(14:12):
house was filled with police officers and everyone else that
was involved in finding Kyron. That's when Desiree happened to
see a framed photo of Terry holding Kyron and knew exactly
when it had been taken. While she was spending time with
her older son, Kane had taken their newborn son to his

(14:33):
mistress's house for a visit. In December, when Kyron was
three months old, Desiree moved out of the house that she and
Kane had shared. As she was pulling away from the
home that she had shared with Kane, she noticed a moving truck
sitting in the street. It appeared to be waiting for
her to leave so it could pull into Kane's driveway.

(14:55):
Desiree later said she remembered seeing a hideous,
grotesque looking couch on the moving truck as she drove away.
That day, she said quote, it reminded me of an old lady sofa
with textured fabric, thick canvas type and ugly flowers.
End Quote. Later, when for some reason she

(15:15):
had come back to the house, she saw the couch in the living
room. It belonged to Terry and I
believe I have a picture of the couch and I will post it on my
Facebook page. She couldn't wait for Desiree to
move out so that she could move herself and her eight-year old

(15:36):
son James in. So no, Terry and Desiree were
definitely not friends at any point in time.
Not even close. Desiree met Gary Munson in 1992
at the Shane Company, where theyboth worked.
They married in October of 1993 and Medford, OR where they both

(15:59):
had lived. Desiree got pregnant early on in
their marriage, but had a miscarriage at 12 weeks.
The following year she got pregnant again and learned it
was twins. However, at 20 weeks, one of the
baby's heartbeats stopped. Desiree carried both babies to
term and the 2nd baby was fine. He was named Quinn and Desiree

(16:20):
called him her, quote UN quote miracle baby.
When Quinn was six months old, Desiree and Gary ended up
separating and then eventually divorcing.
Desiree said he was controlling and that she knew she couldn't
take any more of it when she couldn't even go to the bathroom
by herself. In April of 1996, Desiree met

(16:44):
Kane Horman at the gym he workedout at.
Later he ran into her at a bar and that's when he asked her out
on a date and she said yes. They did it for a while, broke
up and got back together severaltimes before deciding they were
going to get married on July 15th of 2000.
The day she was supposed to walkdown the aisle and say I do, Her

(17:06):
gut told her to say I don't. As she headed for the back door
to play the part of a runaway bride, Kane's mother stopped her
and warned her not to cancel thewedding.
She went ahead and went through with it, even though her
intuition was telling her she shouldn't have.
It wasn't long into their marriage, roughly 2 years when

(17:27):
Desiree suspected Kane was seeing other women.
And we know what happened after she found out that she was
pregnant with Kyron in 2002. In 2004, Kyron and Quinn went to
live with their fathers. It was supposed to be just
temporary. However, both dads joined forces
against Desiree and pulled some really shady shit In the end.

(17:52):
Desiree had not been in the greatest of health for quite a
while. She had been on medication for
years that was causing her to have kidney infections sometimes
as often as once a month, and sometimes the flare ups were so
bad she would be hospitalized. She was scared that she would
have a bad flare up when the boys were with her and that she

(18:12):
may collapse or pass out, and she didn't want that to happen.
So she needed to find a doctor and see what her options were.
In August of 2004, Desiree was in Canada visiting friends when
she developed a kidney infection.
This was a normal occurrence, soshe went to a doctor there to
receive treatment. He told her that if it was up to

(18:34):
him, he would find the root cause of the problem and not
just treat the symptoms like thedoctors in the United States
were doing. She decided to return home and
find a kidney specialist, but then found out her insurance
plan didn't cover any of the ones that were nearby in Oregon,
and the doctor that she had beenseeing just wanted to keep
writing prescriptions to mask the symptoms.

(18:57):
Desiree wanted to be the best mother she could be to her boys,
but she couldn't do that until she got her health in order.
So she made the decision to go to Canada and get the treatment
that she needed. So Desiree quit her job, rented
out her condo in Portland, and preparation for the temporary
move to Canada. She went to Gary and Kane and

(19:19):
told them what was going on and that she planned to take the
boys with her. However, they decided to be
controlling assholes and wouldn't sign the paperwork that
she needed to be able to take the boys across the border.
So Desiree, having no other choice, said the boys could stay
with their fathers, with the understanding that when she

(19:41):
returned from Canada, the boys would come back to live with
her. Paperwork was signed saying as
much. Little did Desiree know her
boy's fathers were about to get even shadier in Canada.
Desiree found out her kidneys were permanently damaged because
of a medication that was supposed to be taken short term.

(20:04):
Yet her doctor kept prescribing it to her repeatedly.
The drug was eventually discontinued in the United
States. She found out she might
eventually need a kidney transplant.
But at that time, she was just desperate to get back home, find
a job and get her boys back. Desiree returned from Canada in

(20:25):
October only to find those sneaky snakes she called her
exes had devised a plan behind her back while she was gone.
See, Gary and Kane were tired ofpaying Desiree child support, so
when she called them after returning from Canada and said
she was going to stop by and pick up the boys, they refused

(20:45):
to hand them over to her even though they had signed papers
saying that they would. Desiree stayed at her parents
home in Medford while getting onher feet again.
During that time, her divorce attorney tried to help her
regain custody of the boys. During that two year battle, she
met Tony Young and started living with him.

(21:07):
Gary had gotten married to a woman named Lisa, who would
eventually become good friends with Cain's mistress turned wife
Terry. And Cain would conveniently get
married to Terry in Hawaii shortly before one of his and
Desiree's court dates, which in Desiree's opinion was to make

(21:27):
him look better in court. Ultimately, Desiree was shocked
when the judge decided to not uproot the boys and kept them
with their fathers in Portland. Of course, it was left to
Desiree to break the news to theboys, who both ultimately wanted
to live with their mom. Whenever Kyron was with Desiree,

(21:50):
especially in the months before he went missing, he would cry
and not want to go back to Cain's house.
He begged to just stay with his mom.
Desiree had a feeling that Terryand her son James, who was 16 by
that time, were doing things to emotionally hurt her son.
One of Kyron's biggest fears wasgetting lost and not being able

(22:11):
to find his way home because James knew that he took Kyron
out for a walk on the nearly five acres of property that they
lived on, James pretended they were lost to scare Kyron.
Desiree said he had nightmares for weeks after this.
On another day, James and Kyron were playing at the old shed.

(22:33):
Kyron would often go in and feedBootsy the Cat.
James got on the roof and it collapsed around Kyron.
Desiree felt like Terry was trying to scare and intimidate
her son. She talked to Kane about the
pressure Terry was putting on him.
She said they all downplayed thetimes when Kyron was scared.
Kyron never outright told Desiree that he feared Terry,

(22:56):
but Desiree thought that Terry was psychologically manipulating
Kyron at least once. Terry hid Kyron's favorite books
and toys, including his copy of Love You Forever, a book that
was sentimentally important to Kyron and his mother.
After Kyron went missing, however, Desiree made it clear

(23:17):
to Cain that when he was found he would be coming home with
her. Even though Kyron lived with
Kane and Terry most of the time,he and Desiree had a bond that
could never be broken. He was a mama's boy through and
through. He mirrored Desiree's
personality with his quiet, shy and soft spoken manner that set

(23:39):
him apart from other little boyshis age.
Kyron especially loved spending summers at his mom's and the
year he went missing, they had afull summer of fun planned.
Besides being excited about going fishing with Tony on his
boat, Kyron was also looking forward to seeing his best
friend and cousin Mason, who wasthe son of Desiree's sister

(24:01):
Kelly. So now that you know the
dynamics of Kyron's family, let's get back to June 4th,
2010. Desiree Young was sitting at her
desk at Lithia Motors in Medford, where she was their
payroll manager. She was just finishing up for
the day when at 4:24 PM, her cell phone rang.
It was Kyron's school. The voice on the other end asked

(24:25):
if she was speaking to Desiree Young.
When Desiree told her she was, the lady said that they had her
name on the emergency contact list for Kyron Horman.
Desiree told her that yes, she was because she was Kyron's
mother. Desiree said she had been trying
to get through to the school foryears that she was Kyron's
mother, not Terry. What the secretary said to

(24:49):
Desiree next shattered her soul. She told her that Kyron was
missing and asked if he was withher or if she knew where he was.
Desiree, who was in complete shock, said no.
I mean, why would he be with her?
That didn't make any sense. Seeing as how she was over 4
hours away. That's when her mind started

(25:11):
racing a mile a minute. Where was Terry and why wasn't
Kyron with her? Had they called the police yet?
How long had he been missing? And why was the school calling
her and not Terry or Kane? The secretary from the school
told Desiree that Terry was there and so were the police.
So Desiree went outside and dialed Terry's number.

(25:32):
She asked her what the hell was going on, and Terry proceeded to
give her a rundown of that morning's events.
She told Desiree that before sheleft the school, she had stood
at the top of the stairs and watched Kyron go into his
classroom. At 3:15 PM that afternoon, she,
Kane, and Kay had gone to meet the school bus.

(25:54):
When they realized Kyron wasn't on it, they rushed to the
school. During the drive to Portland,
Desiree couldn't help but have agut feeling that Terry had
something to do with Kyron beingmissing.
Terry's behavior had been strange earlier that afternoon.
Terry and Desiree did not talk any more than they had to, which

(26:16):
was hardly at all. But that afternoon, Terry had
been emailing Desiree like they were the best of friends.
She sent her the picture of Kyron she had taken at school
that morning. She then sent an e-mail to
Desiree asking if she had seen the picture she posted.
She then sent Desiree a couple more emails after that, one that

(26:38):
talked about a school T-shirt order and one talking about
plans for the summer during the drive to Portland.
Desiree told Tony Quote, if she did something to Kyron, you'll
have to hold me back because I'll kill her End Quote.
Because of Tony's job as a detective, he was trained to not

(26:59):
go off of feelings or intuition, but by evidence, even though he
would find some of Terry's behaviors more than a bit odd.
In the days ahead, as Tony and Desiree got closer to Kane's
house, they drove by Skyline School.
And that's when reality set in. The parking lot was full of RV's

(27:20):
and the lights from search teamsand helicopters lit up the sky.
The school had become the command post for the search for
Kyron. This was real.
He was missing. They pulled up to Kane's house
at 9:38 PM. Media was everywhere, along with
search parties scouring the areaaround the property and

(27:41):
helicopters hovering overhead. Kane and Desiree walked up to
the door and were greeted by Terry, who seemed to be in a
pleasant mood and not at all acting like her stepson was
missing. There was no sign that she was
the least bit upset or worried about where Kyron was or if he

(28:03):
was OK. Instead, she was acting as if
she were hosting a dinner party instead of being part of a
missing child investigation. She offered them food and coffee
like anyone had an appetite. She ran around the house talking
to people as if she didn't have a care in the world.

(28:23):
In the meantime, Kane looked as if he was in shock.
He was very quiet and the color was gone from his face.
He and Desiree, along with Tony and Quinn, all cried throughout
the whole evening as they waitedfor any news about their little
boy. Terry, however, was being a busy
little bee and you know, gettinglaundry caught up.

(28:44):
Because why not? It wasn't just any laundry
though, it was Kyron's. She even washed his jacket and
backpack that had been at schoolwith him that morning.
Why then of all times, did she feel the need to do that?
Maybe so the authorities couldn't find anything with
Kyron's scent on it for the dogs.

(29:05):
Makes you wonder. Terry had absolutely no
self-awareness at all and knew just the right things not to say
to a mother whose son was missing.
When Desiree was looking at the photo of Kyron taken that day,
Terry had the nerve to say, quote, he just had to wear that
shirt today. It's kind of interesting that he

(29:27):
picked that shirt, right? She was referring to the CSI
shirt he had been wearing. Meanwhile, law enforcement was
moving full force in the effortsto find Kyron.
Detectives gathered all four parents cell phones so they
could download the data from them, got credit card
information and emails, and ordered them to lock down their

(29:48):
Facebooks. Terry was visibly upset about
her privacy being violated. They also asked Kane and Desiree
to compile a list of everyone they knew, including their
spouses, friends, and anyone they felt were suspicious.
During this time. They also put a wire on Kane so
that they could listen to conversations that were taking
place inside of the house. At the time, none of the other

(30:12):
parents were aware of this. Sounds like they might have had
some of the same suspicions as Desiree.
Early on, the detectives wanted to go over how the four parents
had spent their day that day. They were able to rule Tony and
Desiree out fairly quickly from being involved in Kyron's
disappearance, since they had not even been in the area at the

(30:33):
time. Kane had been at Intel, where he
worked until close to 2:00 PM that day, so his timeline was
also easy to verify. It was Terry, however, who was
having a bit of trouble with hertimeline of events that day.
Kane had arrived home around 2:00 PM that day to find Terry

(30:53):
downstairs on her laptop. At 3:15 PM, he, Terry, and Kay
walked down the street to wait for Kyron's bus.
As they watched all the other children get off of the bus,
they realized that Kyron wasn't there.
Kane asked the bus driver to phone the school.
He thought maybe Kyron had been confused and thought someone was

(31:14):
picking him up or wasn't paying attention and missed the bus.
However, after calling the, the bus driver told Kane and Terry
that he wasn't at the school either.
That's when they headed to the school and arrived there at 3:56
PM, at which time the school officials called 911.
They were dispatched 3 minutes later at 3:59 PM and were there

(31:39):
within minutes. The police told the secretary to
make the call to Desiree, not Kane or Terry.
How do you not call the child's mother immediately?
That was definitely a shitty move on their part.
Then we get to Terry's description of her day, which

(31:59):
Desiree and Tony were very eagerto hear.
She stated she had taken the picture of Kyra in around 8:45
AM and left to school with Kay around 9:00 AM.
After Desiree told Terry her story about her and Kyra, taking
two different staircases didn't make sense.
She changed her story to say they both took the same

(32:20):
staircase. This wouldn't be the last time
she changed her story either. After that, she said she went to
two Fred Meyer stores, one approximately 5 miles southeast
of the school and the other one a couple miles South.
It was a 9 minute drive in between stores.

(32:40):
She was looking for cold medicine for Kay because,
according to Terry, she had an earache.
Surveillance from inside the store showed Terry talking to a
worker. The worker showed Terry where
something was. Then she purchased a few items.
She left the second Fred Meyers at 9:40 AM.

(33:00):
Law enforcement later asked Terry where the bottle of Motrin
was that she had bought for Kay,And Terry kind of just shrugged
it off, saying, I don't know, it's around here somewhere.
It was never released to the public what else she had
purchased that day, but it was stated that none of the items
were ever found. They also noticed on
surveillance that Terry parked as far away from the front of

(33:22):
the store as possible. From looking at the cameras,
they can make out Kate's car seat and the vehicle, but that
is it. It was impossible to see if
there was anyone else in the car.
When they asked why she parked so far from the store, she said
because that was the way Kane always parked.
When he was asked if it was true, he scoffed.

(33:44):
Terry then stated she went to the gym.
She said she put K in the daycare that the gym offered,
even though she had been sick right before this.
But then what's even stranger was Terry didn't work out.
She stood talking to other gym members, people that she had
never really talked to before. After speaking to some of the
people that were there that morning, detectives learn that

(34:07):
Terry had told one woman that she had cancelled her plans for
that morning in order to take Kyra to the science fair and
also complained about how demanding children were.
She had shown someone else a huge fresh gash on her leg that
she said happened when she dropped a weight on it.
A weight may cause a bruise, butthere was absolutely no way it

(34:28):
would have broken the skin. Also, when did it supposedly
happen? Since we know she didn't pick up
a weight that morning, she also made sure to show everyone that
she talked to while she was there.
The picture of Kyron from the science fair.
So what was the point of this stop at the gym other than to
socialize with people that she didn't even know instead of just

(34:51):
taking her sick child home? Was it to make sure she was seen
so she could build her alibi forthe morning?
To make sure she was on surveillance?
I mean, at least work out for a few minutes and attempt to make
it look real. There was a significant amount
of time missing in Terry's timeline.

(35:11):
If she left Fred Meyers at 9:40 AM and didn't get to the gym
until 12:20 PM or even 11:39 AM like she said she did, then
where was she in those hours between the store and the gym?
When confronted with this, she decided to add on to her
timeline of that morning. She said she was driving around

(35:33):
back roads trying to get Kay, who was fussy because of her
earache, to go to sleep. This still doesn't make sense.
If Kay was fussing and had an earache, why not take her home
and lie her down? After getting the medicine, you
drive her around to calm her, then take her to the gym.
Childcare so you can socialize for 20 minutes?

(35:55):
That's absurd. During this time, Terry was full
of theories on what had happenedto Kyron, and in the process
managed to change her story onceagain.
And not for the last time either.
First she tried to blame a janitor that she thought looked
shady, who was the principal's brother and cleared fairly

(36:18):
quickly. Then she said that maybe Kyron
had gone outside to look for a tree frog to add to his project,
or maybe he even went to check out some horses in the barns up
the road from the school. She was just full of ideas.
Of course, all of her ideas put detectives in the opposite
direction of her. Desiree said later that she knew

(36:40):
Terry's theories were a bunch ofnonsense.
Kyron was a very timid and shy little boy who followed
directions. He would not have left a place
that he felt safe at like school.
There was no way he would have gone outside of the school or
left willingly with someone thathe didn't know.
And remember Terry's story aboutseeing Kyron go into his

(37:02):
classroom? Well, that story was now out,
and the new one was that she when she left Kyron, had been
with a chaperone who was taking a group of kids around to look
at the different projects. This, however, was another lie.
The school confirmed there were no chaperones that morning.

(37:22):
According to Boy missing. By 4:30 PM that day, all hands
were on deck and the search for Kyron had begun.
Officers from the Portland Police Bureau and from Multnomah
County Sheriff's Office. We're at Skyline School, which
was considered the first crime scene, and at Kane's home, which
was considered the secondary crime scene.

(37:45):
By 5:30 PM, all the families that had children that went to
Portland Public Schools were notified of Kyron's
disappearance. At 7:00 PM, Lee Gosson, the
Detective Sergeant for the Sheriff's Office, contacted the
on call Coordinator for Search and Rescue efforts to begin an
official missing person search Kyron.

(38:07):
The media was called by the sheriff's spokesperson and asked
to come to the school and by 7:45 PM the FBI had been
notified of Kyron's disappearance.
Also at 8 O 9:00 PM train searchers arrived at the school
even though the school had been swept by school staff and
police. At 8:15 PM, authorities spoke

(38:28):
with the media and emailed the photo that Terry had taken that
morning to all the news outlets. At 8:29 PM, the search and
rescue coordinator arrived. At 9:48 PM, Mountain Wave and
emergency communications and search and rescue group also had
arrived. By 10:40 PM the police announced

(38:49):
they had checked every nook and cranny of the school and the
Horman house and property, but little Kyron was nowhere to be
found. I know in a lot of cases we
cover, law enforcement seems to drag their feet at the
beginning, but that doesn't seemto be true.
In Kyron's case. As soon as he was reported
missing, it was boots on the ground.

(39:10):
The only problem was they were six hours behind because Kyron
hadn't been at school at all that day after being seen at the
science fair. And this is where we will pick
up next week. Come back next Friday for Part 2
and the Kyron Horman case. For all photos relating to this

(39:31):
case, you can check out the victim's voice on Facebook and

Until next time, peace out None.
