Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to your go-to source for entertainment.
Wait for it.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Gaming.
Wait for it, anime.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
PLUS ULTRA Mr.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Eric Almighty and Phil the Filipino.
Yeah, they've got you covered, and all you gotta do is wait for
it.
This is the Wait For it Podcast.

(00:33):
Hey, everyone, welcome to theWait For it Podcast.
I am your co-host, phil Barrera, aka Phil the Filipino.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
And I'm your other co-host, mr Eric Almighty, and
for this edition of Late to theParty, in the year 2025, the
sequel to this film is comingout.
So we're going back just acouple of years to the original
movie which DreamWorks released, and it's not Puss in Boots, the
Last Wish.
It is, in fact, the Bad Guys.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Alright, what is that 25 seconds in?
Take a shot, Puss in.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Boots, the Last Wish.
I broke a record.
I believe that's what I wasgoing for.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
That is a record, until we eventually just turn
this into a Puss in Boots, theLast Wish podcast, which we will
call.
What will we call it?
Damn, I thought I could maybethink of it right away.
What it would be called Justthe Last Wish, the Last Wish
podcast.
Last Wish, the Last Wishpodcast.
Oh, team Friendship duh Team.
Friendship, yeah, or the Puritopodcast.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Did we ever do a Puss in Boots episode?
No right.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
No, what would?

Speaker 1 (01:34):
we possibly do it under.
Yeah, I think we're going tohave to just create a series for
that.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Anyway, just create an episode of the Puss in Boots
the.
Last Wish we're going to can.
What did I miss one month thatwe're going to can?
What did I miss one month thatwe're going to just rewatch Puss
in Boots?
The Last Wish.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
I think that would be a hell of a call.
But listen, we are here to talkabout another great DreamWorks
film that I think is honestlyPhil for late to the party.
If people know about it, theyunderstand why we're late to the
party.
But also I feel like somepeople haven't watched this and
it might be slept on so excitedto jump into this.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, when you think about DreamWorks animation, you
kind of wonder all right, whereis this going to fall?
Is it going to fall more in theside of, like a boss, baby or
turbo?
What an obscure film to throwout Is that the snail it is the
snail that's in like a FormulaOne, like a Formula One racer,

(02:26):
or is it more Puss in Boots?
The Last Wish, shrek how toTrain your Dragon and I was
pleasantly surprised when Ichecked this out.
So we are going to be talkingabout the 2022 animated film,
the Bad Guys, which is based offa book of the exact same name,
so very excited to jump intothis one.
So, if it seems like a littlebit of a, you know, a fish out

(02:46):
of water when it comes to someof the other movies that are on
this list for late to the party, sure it is, but I think it's
also about, you know, the seriesis definitely about, you know,
bringing more attention to,maybe, films that didn't
necessarily get them, eventhough numbers wise, eric, when
it comes to box office andreception, pretty solid.
So let's jump into it here.
The bad guys, directed by pierrepierre affel I did not look

(03:08):
that up before we started, Iapologize.
This was his cinematicdirecting debut.
If I remember correctly, um,the synopsis states when the bad
guys, a crew of criminalanimals, are finally caught
after years of heists and beingthe world's most wanted villains
, mr Wolf brokers a deal to savethem all from prison.
So, eric, you saw this waybefore I did when it first came

(03:31):
out.
Did you see this in theaters orwas this a stream watch for you
and your family?

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah, so this was a stream watch for us, not a movie
that I initially had watched in2022.
And that was kind of again togo back to Puss in Boots, that
was kind of the thing with usright like we weren't actively
watching some of these moviesbecause we weren't really sure
what Dreamworks was going to becooking up and little did we

(03:56):
know they.
They were cooking.
They were cooking with gas, sothey are, from an animation
standpoint, doing prettyfantastic.
When you consider the Last Wish, you consider the bad guys and
then most recently here in thepast 12 months, the wild robot I
mean man absolutely killing itin this particular department,
and for that reason it makes mevery excited for the sequel,

(04:19):
which I definitely will beseeing in theaters.
If I had a chance to go back intime, I probably would have
checked this out when itreleased.
I just remember.
Obviously it got a sequel, soit did pretty well, but I just
don't remember very much talkabout it, honestly, and that's
why I think I missed it thatfirst original run.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, and it has a really, really stacked cast as
well Sam Rockwell, mark Maron, who I love.
Awkwafina 2022 Awkwafina likepeople were just starting to
kind of like waver on her, sowhen I heard her voice, I was
like, oh shit, it wasn't asjarring as when I heard it in
the Little Mermaid, whichimmediately made me stop

(04:58):
watching, so this was fine.
Craig Ramos, Anthony Ramos, chris Ramos I combined two
people, craig Robinson andAnthony Ramos.
Uh, chris Craig Ramos Icombined two people, craig
Robinson and Anthony Ramos.
Zazie Beetz big fans of a lotof them.
So when it comes to cast, youknow it has your standard big
time Hollywood names and thoseperformances are reflected in
these characters.

(05:19):
I definitely want to get into adiscussion a little bit lateric
is why you think this maybedoesn't necessarily live within
the zeitgeist of, like thedreamworks opening credit scene
right now.
We see who do you see in thatthing?
Like shrek puss in boots.
How to train your dragon arethey?
yeah, oh, good for them.
Look at that, sees, that?
See?
That's the thing.
I didn't even know, I didn'teven notice that they were

(05:41):
included within that, but alsoisn't.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Baby is in it, isn't it?
Did they have that opening inthe bad guys without them?
Is that why?
No or was that the original one, because I know that was fairly
new, I believe.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Okay, yeah, so they're in there, and I just
didn't.
I don't even recognize thatthey're in there.
I'd like to have a discussionabout why I think that is.
But when it comes toperformances, animation, this
thing holds up very well.
I mean, it's obviouslyinfluenced heavily by Into the
Spider-Verse, which almosteverything is now and that's a
very, very good thing back in2022.

(06:16):
And also in something I justrecently watched in K-Pop Demon
Slayer or Demon Hunters.
So what you know, into theSpider-Verse has done for
animation is going to be long, lasting for years and years,
which is great, as we continueto see other studios, lap Disney
, which we have talked about inlength here on this podcast.
So, yeah, eric, what wasy'all's your, you and your

(06:36):
family's initial reaction whenyou saw this a couple of years
ago?
You know, when you take a flyeron an animated movie, you're
like man, is this going to bejust an over the top, just
directly aimed at kids, or willthey mix in some stuff for the
family?
You know, for the parents, whatwas your reaction when you,
when the film ended?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah, I think for me, I like it's gonna be weird to
bring up a whole nother propertyin my spiel of like why I
really enjoyed this movie, but Ithink it's pretty fitting this
movie badly.
Re like invigorated my need fora Sly Cooper movie Like this is
exactly the way I would love afucking Sly Cooper movie to look

(07:16):
, to, feel, to sound.
And when it comes to the badguys, obviously you know you've
got the gang of criminals, you've got the heist situations
Like you've got all that type ofstuff going on here.
It's very similar in thataspect.
I did like the banter and thecamaraderie between these
characters.
I don't think this story wisereinvented the wheel very much.

(07:40):
I just think everything waselevated from good and I think
that's a great place to be witha story like this.
And again, it made me reallyfond of the idea again of going
back to like a Sly Cooperproperty and really bringing
that in.
And if I couldn't get that, I'mreally glad I did get this

(08:01):
because I think it was reallyreally good.
And does it fall short frombeing great?
Because it does kind of havesome paint by the number.
You know story points and storybeats.
Sure, are there maybe one toomany fart jokes, situations or
type of comedy things in there.
Great, I mean the comment, themain comment on Letterboxd that

(08:21):
I read was that DreamWorksrealized they almost made a
movie that was too good so theyadded some fart jokes in there
just in case, and that's kind ofhow I feel about it, but those
never really stopped me fromenjoying the film and that's
ultimately kind of where I stoodwhen the credits rolled.
Do I think there should be asequel?

(08:41):
Well, I'm sure that's adiscussion we'll talk about
towards the end, but as a filmby itself really really enjoyed
it when the credits rolled.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yeah, and even that you know, when we were bringing
up like the fart joke, when itdoes have a story element tied
to it which is at least they puta little bit of effort into
that.
But yeah, like you said, youknow to go back to talking about
the camaraderie between thesecharacters and the chemistry
that they have, and I'm sure youknow, obviously we know that's

(09:12):
very difficult to do alreadywhen it comes to animation, but
this was done remotely becauseof the pandemic.
So you know they weren't even, they didn't even have the
ability to, you know, maybe evenbond in person like they wanted
to.
As far as this cast, and youknow the fact that they were
able to tell a cohesive storyand bring characters together in
a very short amount of timethat are brand new.

(09:32):
You know original well, quoteunquote original characters,
obviously based on the book, was, I think, is a really, really
big testament to what they wereable to pull off here.
One of the inspirations of thisis certainly the Oceans films.
You know Sherlock Holmes, things like that.
Pulp Fiction I saw was alsolisted as an inspiration, which

(09:52):
I thought was really funny.
One person, I think IGN hadstated this was like a mix of
what was it.
It was a mix of Little RedRiding Hood and Oceans films
which you know, kind of nails itpretty well.
So, yeah, I think the reasonit's just so tough to commit to

(10:13):
animated films like when we sawthe trailer for the Wild Robot,
I think you automatically know,oh, this is going to be
something special.
When you see the trailer forhow to Train your Dragon, you're
like, okay, this could bereally really special With this,
because it looked prettypaint-by-the-numbers.
Okay, it's a heist movie forkids.
I'll probably skip that one.

(10:34):
I think that's why it doesn'tnecessarily live within the
zeitgeist of the otherDreamWorks films or even just
animated films in general.
And also, eric, the characterdesigns aren't real.
Other than the Piranha, whichis Anthony Ramos, the character
designs are just fine.
They're like characters youwould find on like a random
Saturday or Sunday morning onlike Nickelodeon.

(10:54):
And I think that's probablyanother one of the reasons why
it doesn't necessarily stand outor hasn't really stood the test
of time in terms of characterswe think of immediately when you
say hey, what do you think ofwhen you think of DreamWorks?

Speaker 1 (11:09):
And you know that's kind of interesting, because
when we talk about characterdesigns, you mentioned all those
different things that kind ofinfluenced this movie and a lot
of those are kind of geared toadults, right.
So I think it kind of almostappeals.
The character designsthemselves appeal more to the
adults than they do to kids, where, like Zootopia, I think,

(11:30):
is the other way around.
I think that really does mainlyappeal to kids, although the
way some people fiend over, youknow Judy Hopps, that's a story
for another day.
We're not here to talk aboutthat.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I can't imagine that people don't also feel that way
about the fox that Zazie Beetzplayed.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
I mean maybe to that people don't also feel that way
about the fox that zazie beatsplayed.
I mean, maybe you do a lesserdegree right, yeah, but you know
, and again, she was cool.
she was cool, yeah, and all thecharacters were cool.
I think they had a sense ofswag and style that really
worked and I think to a kid'seye maybe not something that
stood out as much.
The, I think, makes up for alot of that.
It's very bombastic at times.
It is very easy on the eyes tolook at very action, heavy or

(12:11):
fast movement, paced at times, where you could still kind of
follow along, not like a TeenageMutant, ninja Turtles where we
talked about the animation therejust didn't work for us because
it almost felt like we couldn'tkeep up with what was going on.
You don't have that issue hereand I think those elements of
the animation deserve to bepraised.
But yeah, from a characterdesign standpoint I could

(12:32):
definitely see this being morecatered to adults and maybe you
know again, that's why whenyou're looking at like the
trailer, especially when you'rethinking about bringing a family
, it's not a movie that reallyjumps off the screen for you.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
when you're thinking about bringing a family.
It's not a movie that reallyjumps off the screen for you.
Yeah, it also doesn't have avery memorable villain in terms
of design.
So, of course, when you talkabout death in Puss, in Boots,
the Last Wish, which is veryunfair you talk about even the
design choices that are made in,like the Wild Robot.
You know, those are all thingsthat we will remember forever,

(13:06):
forever.
I'm not going to really thinkabout a gerbil, which, again, as
an adult, it's really one ofthe most obvious turns and you
know they're.
They went for a zootopia typeof thing here, but it was just
very obvious from the beginningand again it is.
It's a kid's movie, so all thisjust feels so silly to nitpick
about.
But overall, you know as knowas far as having what was his

(13:28):
name, rupert, yeah, rupertMarmalade was, you know, a
villain.
That's fine.
So we'll see if they canimprove upon that in the second
one when they add a whole newlist of characters that
certainly aren't going toeventually just team up and also
be good girls, right?

Speaker 1 (13:45):
that's not gonna happen no way, no way, no, no
shot.
One thing I'll mention as wellwhen the movie had initially
come out.
The one thing I do rememberabout it was the excessive use
in the trailer of billy eilish'sthe bad guy like bad.
Oh my god, that's right, Iforgot about that I do actually
think subconsciously that mademe not want to watch the movie.

(14:06):
It was kind of like the use ofsong was the same way they did
stuff like, and I don't rememberwhat song it was, or maybe it
was just the fact that it wasthe same exact trailer.
You know that movie Migrationthat we kept joking we'd see.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
It was kind of like that.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
I will say the marketing must have worked
because it got people to thetheaters and it did pretty well
and again to deserve a sequel.
But that is the one thing I dokind of remember now that I
think back to it is that BillieEilish song and every time I
heard it I was like fucking turnthis off please.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
What was the migration song?
What song did they use too much?
I don't know, feel like, andmaybe, maybe this is way better
than a migration.
I'll tell you guys that I'venever watched which isn't hard
shocker.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Um, I'll try to see if I can find it.
I feel like there was a song, but maybe it wasn't, maybe I was
just making that up.
But yeah, I'm gonna pull up theone trailer and look at it,
because I doubt they changed it.
So let me, let me see.
Let's continue.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Awkwafina is also in migration.
She plays a pigeon.
We gotta stop giving Awkwafinavoice roles is what I'm saying I
think we've collectively.
We can move on from theAwkwafina stage Until she's an
Avenger in Doomsday.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Maybe.
Yeah, I think I hear Destiny'sChild in this trailer.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Is it like Survivor?

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah, it's Survivor.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
That's an interesting choice for that film.
Yeah, I'm a Survivor.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Yeah, that definitely bothered me quite a bit.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Well, we've talked too much about migration.
We did here in this episode, sosorry about that guys.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
We've talked about too many other movies other than
the bad guys, so let's keep it.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
So I mean, well, there's not really much to say
other than it's very good.
It's not excellent in reallyany particular area, but it does
a lot of really good thingsthat are worth your time.
If you are a parent or if youjust really like the DreamWorks
animated movies, you're gonnawalk away from this, not upset
that.
You took time, like I did afterI saw Migration, so you'll feel

(16:15):
good that you watched a moviethat's again based off of a book
.
It's got interesting characters, the performances are good, the
animation is not gonna to makeyou sick, it's gonna.
It's gonna be very familiar.
So if you're into all of that, then you're gonna have a good
time with this.
You know, overall, will I seethe second one in theaters?
Probably not, but I will watchit once it's available on

(16:36):
streaming, even though, again,we can see we could probably
predict the ending for thatmovie from a mile away.
Hopefully there's just a abetter.
I guess the good, the bad girlsare the villains.
I don't know if there's goingto.
I don't know.
You can only go up from gerbil.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah, really you can and I will be seeing it, but
only because it is my son's likehighly anticipated movie of the
year.
Other than Elio, it's the onehe wanted to see the most this
year.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Should show him Ocean's Eleven next yeah, I'm
sure he'll like that Ocean'sEleven and the Italian job maybe
I mean honestly, I'm surprisedevery single day, so maybe that
does happen.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
But yeah, I'll be seeing it in theaters, so you
can always look forward to areview from me on that.
As far as the bad guys film, Ithink a good way to wrap the uh,
you know, wrap everything upbefore we do our normal similar
or films like this one game.
Why don't we talk about thereception of the film and our
scores?

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Yeah, really quick.
I wanted to ask how did youfeel about them going both?
And what's the word Anthrop, anthropomorphic and people?
Would you rather them justchoose one or the other?
I thought it was kind ofjarring that there were also
people in this world.
And why not?
Maybe they were just trying toavoid the full-on Zootopia.
That's probably the guess Ithink that's what it is.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
I think it's got enough Zootopia vibes.
I know it's not the same thingand you can make distinctions,
but I would assume that's whatit was for.
I didn't really care that much.
It would have bothered me moreif they made the humans they do
what they do in the Godzillamovies.
You're here to see Godzilla andinstead we spend three quarters

(18:18):
of the movies with the humancharacters we don't care about.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
I didn't really feel that tug-of war happening
between yeah, really, the onlyhuman character we focus on is
the police officer and that's it, yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
so I mean, I think for that reason it's okay.
But again, had we had that tugof war that we see in other
properties, where humans arebrought in with whatever
monsters, creatures, animals, whatever aliens, and they're the
center of attention, had thathappened I might have felt
different.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, that's fair.
Well, this did very, very wellin terms of reception.
In terms of box office gross, Ibelieve worldwide it ended up
grossing $250 million in termsof reception.
On Rotten Tomatoes 88 certifiedfresh tomato meter score and a
93 popcorn meter score, soreceived very, very well over on

(19:14):
IMDB 6.8 out of 10, and then onLetterboxd it has a very, very
strong 3.4 and that is alsowhere I landed Eric at a 3.5.
So basically, right there, Ithink, in terms of maybe giving
us a more memorable villain, itcould teeter on a four if they

(19:34):
had gotten that right and donethat a little bit better,
because even though, like likeI'll just bring this up again
K-pop, demon Slayer, demonHunters it does not reinvent the
wheel when it comes to thestory, but because there are so
many things in there I enjoyedand I enjoyed the villain, it
did bump it up to a four.
For me.

(19:54):
It's one of my favorite moviesof the year so far and, yeah, I
understand, I understand.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I got to watch it.
I got to watch it.
I can't judge it.
I I'm going to watch it.
I can't judge it.
That's not what I expected.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
I sat there and I was like I love, I really, really
enjoy that, and a lot of thathad to do with music.
It's pretty easy If you give uslike specifically catchy music
in a movie that we're evenmoderately enjoying, bump it up,
man, bump it up.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
So maybe it wasn't bad guy for Billie Eilish, 94
tomato, 95 popcorn on Rodden.
So I mean I'm telling you man Ithink it's got a 3.9 on
Letterboxd 7.9 on IMDb.
That's crazy.
I'm telling you, man Almost an8.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
I'm telling you man, they cooked they cooked over
there.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
So, when you're talking about movies that, like
it's, fell short of a 4.
And again, that's just becauseI think for everything that this
movie does well, it also hasthose paint by the number
moments and I got to fault it alittle bit for again being, I
wouldn't say, unoriginal.
But again, this is, this iswhat I would have expected, like

(21:08):
I really would have liked, froma Sly Cooper movie, and again I
could see other movies doingsomething very similar with
equal or more success.
And that's where I judge thisfilm at a three and a half, uh,
which is a respectable score, amovie where, again, if it's on,
I would absolutely catch myselfsitting down to watch it and I
could also understand if peoplelike it a little bit more

(21:30):
because, again, I think thecharacter designs really are the
style of the movie, the wayit's kind of flowing, I think
works for those classic heistmovies that a lot of people do
like, and it's got that swagbehind it for adults, uh, but
also has the, again the aspectsof a kid's movies that the
target audience kids, enjoy, uh,will I see the sequel?

(21:52):
Uh, yes, but I'm also very, very scared, so very, very
nervous as to what that's goingto be for the original.
I put this movie, if we'relooking at late, to the party
list I.
I put this in the middle of ata three and a half, right in the
middle of nope and spirited atthe 22 spot.

(22:13):
Phil, where did you land?

Speaker 2 (22:15):
It is also 22 for me, but it's behind Edge of
Tomorrow and right before theAdventures of Tintin and before
Taxi Driver.
So if we ever meet like truecinema buffs, we cannot tell
them about this list.
We cannot tell them.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
No, for sure, a hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
I just saw Edgar Wright's list on Twitter of his
top ten films of all time, andTaxi Driver is number three.
So we cannot ever speak toEdgar Wright.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Yeah, he's a fucking psychopath Allegedly, if you
like, taxi Driver allegedly.
So yeah, no, I also look likehow low I have, like Raiders of
the Lost Ark and people likefreak out about that too.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yeah, I think I'm going to rewatch the Menu at
some point.
Yeah, but because I think, because here's the thing, the
thing about the menu and alsowhat's the show that I owe the
bear.
So there are scenes in the menuthat are like so good and then
the rest of I'm just like man,but the bear, the episode with

(23:18):
you know, the episode wherewhat's his name?
Who's the best character?

Speaker 1 (23:21):
the guy doesn in fantastic four um.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Why am I?

Speaker 1 (23:27):
it's gonna make me, it's gonna piss me off.
It's gonna piss me off onesecond the bear cousin name.
Crazy, he's not even one of thefirst people that come up on
the cast on google dude.
What is happening?
What's his?

Speaker 2 (23:42):
name.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
I got him richie, richie, richie, richie, richie.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
The episode where Richie goes to like the Michelin
star restaurant is one of thebest episodes of television ever
made.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
And every time I see a clip, and to the Taylor Swift
song too, and I fucking love it,dude.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
I'm like and it's like, but I just didn't really
enjoy the rest of the show.
But he is incredible and everyand every time I see a clip pop
up when I'm scrolling throughreels, I'm like god he is.
So this is so good, but therest of it just didn't hit that
way.
So I feel like that's how Ifeel about the menu and I should
watch it again.
The same way I felt about nope.
Like after dissecting, likeredissecting nope, I was like no
, that was.
I enjoyed that a lot more thanI think that I did it at first.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
So well and that's.
Stuff like this is alwayschanging, you know and that's
why I always say like I alwayshave an asterisk around these,
these scores, because, again, ifyou haven't seen a movie twice
can you really judge it.
But like we all can't sit hereand watch every single movie at
least twice to make adetermination like that's just
not how real life works and alsoI'm not going to re-watch shin

(24:41):
godzilla.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
I'm not going to re-watch akira.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yeah, no, that'm not going to rewatch Shin Godzilla.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
I'm not going to rewatch Akira.
Yeah, I'm not going to rewatchScott Pilgrim, because I can't
take a time machine and watch in2005 or 2006.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
That's fair.
Would we rewatch the Shining?
Maybe we didn't get it.
That's the one that alwayssticks out to me about the two
movie watch.
I won't watch Shin Godzillaeither.
I might watch a movie like aScott Pilgrim again, but like I,
probably didn't want to.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Isn't also the Shining like three hours long?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
It's pretty long.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
It's like yeah, it's like two and a half hours long.
It's long, I don't know man.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
Just to see if we would bump it up to like a two
and a half.
Yeah, two, two and a half.
I forgot how low we rated.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Well, I do feel.
Aman Valani, our Ms Marvel, hasalso given this a three, so I
feel somewhat validated.
Yeah, that's not like a five.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Yeah, all right, let's do our more like this game
.
So on, the podcast relate tothe party specifically, we do
more like this, where we look atIMDb and Letterboxd now and we
see films similar to the badguys and see if Phil has watched
them.
Would he prefer the bad guys orthat film?
We'll start off light.

(25:48):
Phil, I don't think you'regoing to be shocked at some of
these, but they're not going tonecessarily all be animated, and
that's the case here with thefirst one.
Would you rather watch the badguys or lift the movie with
Kevin Hart in it?
Lift, lift the movie with KevinHart that was on Netflix.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
You gave it a one.
Lift Kevin Hart.
Oh God, this, that's on here.
Yeah.
Why is that on there?
Oh, because it's a heist.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Yeah it's like the seventh movie.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
I hated that movie so much that I totally forgot it
existed.
Yeah.
Easily one of the worst moviesI've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
I was like throwing up an easy one there that you
could let it fall.
Would you rather watch the badguys or and I think this is
probably the way to do this anyof the bad boys films?

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Probably any of the bad boys films.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
You pick all four.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Maybe not three.
Okay, fair enough maybe notthree.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Okay, fair enough three.
Yeah, would you watch the badguys or any of the ant-man
movies?

Speaker 2 (26:55):
probably the bad guys .
Yeah, the ant-man movies aren'tvery good, and especially the
third one.
Fucking.
Yeah in whatever the hell it'scalled, who cares?
That movie sucks, dude god.
I saw a clip of that pop uprecently and he's like but it's
never too late to be a dick, darren.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
God, would you rather watch the Bad Guys or the Boss
Baby?

Speaker 2 (27:16):
I've never seen Boss Baby and I'm not going to.
Isn't it also voiced by Spacey?

Speaker 1 (27:21):
I think it's Alec Baldwin.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Okay, well, also voiced by spacey.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
I think it's alec baldwin.
Okay, well, I mean, that's onlya little better.
Well, I don't know, that's kindof crazy.
Baldwin's gotta kill kd bob.
Stop, he's acquitted.
He's acquitted.
It's still a kd, it doesn'tmatter.
Insane, would you.
Would you rather watch jesus?
Would you rather watch the badguys or luca the bad guys?
Would you rather watch Jesus?
Would you rather watch the BadGuys or Luca the Bad Guys?

(27:47):
Would you rather watch the BadGuys or Zootopia?

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Zootopia Twice.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Would you rather watch the Bad Guys or Onward?

Speaker 2 (27:59):
The Bad Guys.
The Bad Guys is more funOnward's sad, it's true.
Also, Chris Pratt and TomHolland.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
They were fine Would you rather watch the bad guys or
any of the Guardians of theGalaxy films?

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Yes, all the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Would you rather watch the bad guys or Detective
Pikachu?

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Detective Pikachu.
Pokemon holds a special placein my heart.
That's fair.
Would you rather watch the BadGuys or Detective Pikachu?
Detective.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Pikachu Pokemon holds a special place in my heart.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
That's fair.
Would you rather watch, eventhough?
It's got Justice Smith in it.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Would you rather watch the Bad Guys or any of the
Sonic movies?

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Probably the first two, not that shit last one.
Most recently we got that'sfair.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
And there's a lot more we could do.
Would you rather watch the BadGuys or the Suicide Squad?

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Which one?
Either?
Probably the newer one.
I enjoyed the newer one.
I know you didn't really likethe newer one, but I liked the
newer one, that's fair why?

Speaker 1 (28:54):
are there so many?

Speaker 2 (28:55):
James Gunn movies.
Did James Gunn work on the BadGuys?

Speaker 1 (28:59):
I don't know.
Would you rather watch the Badguys or the Italian job?
Have you seen the Italian job?
I just mentioned the Italianjob to you a second ago to show
to your son oh, the Italian jobwould you rather watch I'm going
to give you the last two, whichare unfortunately going to be
no's would you rather watch thebad guys or any Fast and the
Furious movie?

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Yes, actually no.
Fast 10 is terrible, not Fast10.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
All the rest though cinematic masterpiece.
And do I have to ask you thelast one, which is would you
rather watch the Bad Guys orPuss in Boots?
The Last Wish?

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Yeah, no, we can keep it rolling.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
Yeah, yeah, I think that's about the time for us to
close down the episode.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Where does this rank?
So how many movies?
Let's list off some of the toptier DreamWorks movies too,
before you would pick this thebad guy.
So I'm going to switch it up onyou, oh God, obviously.
So we'll start with Shrek.
We're not going to put it aboveShrek, right?
No, we wouldn't do that.
No, any of the how to Trainyour Dragons.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
I know you're like a little iffy on those.
Maybe the last one, no, yeah, Ithink how to Train your Dragons
is definitely better.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Yeah, okay, maybe the last one.
Yeah, kung Fu Panda.
Like the last two, kung FuPandas have been iffy, but you
got off to a really good start, like the first two.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
I'd say we're close.
Okay, because I have kung fupanda as high as some people do,
yeah, yeah, so I would actuallysay it's pretty close, but kung
fu panda has a slight edge okay, wild robot, I think we're.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
We're pretty even and even there um what are some of
their?
Other franchises.
So this is where I think itkind of it starts to lap some of
their.
So what about madagascar?
People love madagascar.
Madagascar 3 I will stand by isone of the funniest animated
movies ever made yeah, no, I'mout of gas.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
I know the bad guys.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
But see the thing, that's the thing madagascar
exists in, within the zeitgeistof the dreamworks characters,
that where the bad guys does not.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
You know that's true oh, it definitely has more like
the penguins you know, thepenguins in madagascar are a big
thing.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
So this is where I think the realm of the bad guys
is like, when we're talkingabout the Croods Megamind, which
I've never seen.
I've never seen Megamind.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
Let's not sleep on the Croods now.
The Croods.
Is that first Croods, the firstCroods movie, is good.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Good yeah.
I'd say the bad guys was better, better, yeah, shark.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Tale.
It's better than Shark Taleright.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
So are you trying to paint the picture that it
doesn't have, because it's justone movie and we don't know how
the second one's going toperform?
It doesn't have the gravitas ofthe big franchises, but that
it's pretty much better than alot of those solo ones.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yes, yeah.
Well, there's like three Croodsmovies, isn't there?
Are there three?

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Croods.
Now I mean sure, but that Imean I wouldn't really count
that as like one of their bigtime franchises.
So even if you put, I don'tknow movies against the bad guys
.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
I don't know, because , like well, the bad guys also
have spinoffs as well, so it haslike solo shows and I think the
Croods also does special orsomething.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Yeah, does special or something.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Yeah, the crudes also has something like megamind is
a tv show, so I mean, I guess Ithink it did have a sequel.
It just existed because whendreamworks hits, they hit hard.
A monsters versus aliens right, like we quote that a lot.
But it doesn't really existanywhere other than meme form,
like with bob, we don't know, Idon't know anybody else really
if, like that, quotes monstersversusens like we do.
So it's a better movie thanRise of the Guardians probably.

(32:30):
I've never seen Rise of theGuardians.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Rise of the Guardians is good.
No, you're sleeping on that.
You've never seen Rise of theGuardians.
No, I didn't have anythingagainst it.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
I do remember that the Santa was in the.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
I'm actually going to put that on late to the party.
I know that Santa was in theSanta bracket.
Also Alec Baldwin, oh shit.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
But then when we're talking about, but it's not
better than the Prince of Egyptor Roger Elorado.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Oh, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
It's not even in the same conversation, you know, but
it is in the same conversationas those are so weird too,
because like, do those reallycount?
The B movie, I mean they count.
The Bee movie is like the mostmemed movie in history.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
It's so memed, it's actually like two memed.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Is it even any good other than Patrick Warburton?
This bee is ruining my life.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Why is it always on yogurt night?

Speaker 2 (33:22):
why is it always on yogurt night?
The faces he makes.
He's the only sane person inthat movie.
He's the only one.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
For sure so.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
I didn't see Home.
Did you see Home?

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Quotes Did you watch Home?
No, but I think we both knowhow that went.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Yeah, turbo, it's got to be better than Turbo.
It's got to be better thanTurbo.
It's got to be better thanFlushed.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Away, which I'm not going to watch either.
Yeah, so I mean it's like uppertier.
Yeah, I think it has apossibility On the non-staple
franchises, but it's in theintro, if this new one is good.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
If this new one exceeds expectations.
We didn't expect Puss in Boots, the Last Wish, to be what it
was.
If it's like a four, then we'relike okay, now I think we're
cooking now, yeah we're cooking,yeah.
We'll see A riot in the dark.
You know trolls.
These are movies that I thinkit's probably better than.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Yeah, 100% I agree.
But, yeah, we really stretchedepisode, which was great.
Yeah, you got a lot of talkingpoints in there, and that's what
kind of happens when, again, welike a property.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
It's not better than over the hedge.
Over the hedge is great, dude.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Yeah, no over the edge even though that's bruce
willis, I think it is brucewillis is bruce willis.
Yeah, but I added rise of theguardians to the uh to the list.
That would be a fun christmas.
Christmas, one party, yeah, yeah, I mean you could also do
easter and um, there's a tooththere, you know, just, you could
also do easter.
There's an easter buddy, Ithought there was.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
I was like where is he gonna go with this?

Speaker 1 (34:57):
I thought there were other holidays and I was like,
oh, that's not how that works, nope, yeah no, but uh yeah, no,
I think that'd be a funchristmas one also kind of slept
on.
Kind of slept on it.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
It's actually I would put character designs pretty up
there yeah, character designsare pretty top tier, even though
I've never seen it, but yeah, yeah I actually think you'd
enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
you'd have a good time with.
It's got hugh jackman, chrispine, uh, jude, the fucking cast
for the Rise of the GuardiansCrazy.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
But the point of the story is the Bad Guys is a good
movie, so definitely check itout and I think it's worth
people's time, unlike some ofthese other films that have come
and gone.
Remember the Teenage Kraken, remember the trailers for that.
That movie came and went.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Who expected very much out of that.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Yeah, what animated movie.
Oh, when I saw how to Trade aDragon recently and there's all
these animated films, I'm likeman, we're not going to even
know what most of these are insix months, so they're just
going to come and go.
But yeah, anyway, this was awhole lot of fun and worth your
time.
If you would like to see any ofthe other movies we have been
late to the party for make sureyou check the Linktree link in
