Parents have transformed their grief into action when advocating for the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth (STURDY) Act, which seeks to prevent child injuries and deaths from falling furniture.  The safety triad - consumers, corporations, and government regulators - agree that the STURDY Act will result in a robust safety standard that will reduce furniture tip-overs and improve protections for small children.  The new legislation will require the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to set mandatory safety standards for all dressers and similar products made or sold in the U.S.  This is a long overdue solution to an easily fixable problem: On average 22,500 hospital emergency visits are attributed to tip-overs per year (2018-2020).  There have been 472 child tip-over fatalities since 2000.  May the consuming public heed the warnings that the industry is putting out there so that we can make our furniture safer and prevent future injury and death.  And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!
