Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the water Boys with myself, Mitch
McPherson and Xavier Doherty and the Aussies. Well kicks off
tonight our time with the third Test, a guess against
the West Indies, a series of course already wrapped up,
and I have a bit of a reflection, a bit
of a chin wag about the Aussies where they're at,
and of course with the ashes later on in the year.
Is our man well, he's got nearly well. We had
nearly seven thousand first class runs, four Test matches for
(00:21):
Australia's former right now Alex Dulan and my favorite co
host of the show, Alex still welcome to the water
Boys to me every week they gave me, you know
when we were planning the new show and they're like
giving you a free reign. Who you're looking at? Us aid,
oh look, X is the man? And then if only
(00:42):
we'd cross paths, if only anyway, dear, look, how are
you mate?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
You well? You're going well? Thank you?
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Good, great to hear. Look, plenty of talk about how
the Aussies are top three has been going straight off
the top. Can we get your take on where you
think it's at?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
There has been plenty of talk. I'm doing a bit
of a deep think about it. And whenever Australia travels
internationally we get thrown up the most horrific wickets to
bat on. Let's be honest. When you look at the
World Test Championship, first two scores were below two hundreds.
We go to the West Indies, Duke's ball on rubbish wickets,
(01:22):
it's bloody hard for the top three. Let's be honest.
As soon as that firmness goes out of the ball,
it looks far easy to bat. But you know who'd
want to be an open for touring Australian team at
the moment. Let's be honest. So look, I think there's
they're under the pressure, There's no doubt about it. You
(01:43):
know Constance, he doesn't have that base of runs behind
him to rely on. So it's really tough for a
young man when he's going to new conditions to have
that confidence to continue to show up and play. Although
he doesn't look that short on confident and Kawaja where
(02:03):
he's closer to the end and he is the beginning.
But it's tough for those openers.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
It has been tough. Yet they found runs a little
short and it's good good to say Green score a
few runs in the last dy It's got a fifty,
which I think was worth one hundred in those conditions,
as you say, duels. But if we do and at
some stage we will lose usman, you know, if not
at some stage this year, at the end of the summer,
constance is someone who hasn't established himself, who is knocking
(02:31):
on the door. Who might we see it potentially in
the ashes.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I don't really want to steal your thunder here is
because we may have had a conversation about it. But
Jake weather Ord surely has to be up there. His
name has to be firmly at the top of that list.
I think the way the teams have been picked, they
shown their hand a little bit with Bancroft and Harris
(02:57):
that they're not really considering those guys. So I open
the batting. I don't think Marnus as your man. I
don't think McSweeney is your man either, So both very
good cricketers, no doubt about it. I think Sweeney could
play a lot for Australia. But opening the batting is very,
very hard, you know. We threw out one of our
(03:19):
best cricketers ever after open the batting and he did
an okay job lean Smith, so that goes to show
how hard it is. That's why I think it's a
real specialist position. I think whether all would certainly be
one player that Australia should be looking at very closely.
I did think Renshaw could potentially go back up there
(03:39):
after his season a couple of years ago, but he
was batting in the middle order and he went back
up the top and didn't put the runs on the board.
So if it's not Constance, I don't know who it is.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I like Renshaw and I think that's a good shot,
and I think he just made some He made a
decent series. I think it was only what Sri Lanka
but I or something like that, or but I made
some conceit some consistent good scores there. Hey Jules, well
what are we We're looking at the first Test Perth
ashes right now. Give us here and I know we've
scott this match. The kicks off tonight over in the
Windys to play out, but give us your top three.
(04:13):
Who do you reckon? We're going to have in those
top three spots for the Aussies in that first Test
against England.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Who do I reckon we'll have? Or who would I pick?
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Whoick?
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Who'd you pick?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
That's a better question. I would jeez, I would stick
with Woosman. Yeah, I would have Weather all the batting
and I would stick with cam Green at three. I
think cam Green is an absolute beauty. He is such
(04:44):
a good player. He hasn't got the runs at three,
but he's only had six hits at it on like
we said, rubbish wickets. So I'd definitely stick with cam
Green at three. And I think other guys that could
potentially feature throughout this year he's just depending on form
and potential retirements might be you McSweeney's or even someone
(05:05):
like a Jason Sanger just playing some sich very good cricket.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, he.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Burst onto the scene with one hundred at the SDG
against Tazzi. A few years ago. Jack Edwards scored one
hundred in the same game and I thought he was
a terrific player at that stage. And then he had
a lull in his career, which a lot too, but
you know, his last couple of years big bash and
then his career that started with South Australia, he's been exceptional.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Right deals very quickly here, you played a lot of
first class Game one hundred and twenty, I think you
racked up. You also played nearly thirty Big Bash games.
The big news during the week was the Hurricanes had
resigned Timmy David. Give us your thoughts on that and
how important that signature is to some back to back
title defense.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Most important signature for the Hurricanes, can I say that?
I don't think there's another player out there liked him, David. Honestly,
the way he's able to hit the ball, the damage
he's able to do with, you know, facing so little deliveries.
I just think he's so important and I'm so pleased
that the Hurricanes were able to give his signature because
(06:12):
there's no one else out there. Tell me anyone else
in the game that hits the ball like him?
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah, spot on. No, we can't disagree with you here, Duals.
That's fantastic And as you say, to get going so
fast off just a couple of balls, a lot of
players need a little more than what he does.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Douls.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
It's all we've got time for here to chat. We'd
love to chat to you all show, but unfortunately we can't.
But we look forward to. We'll check in with you
again over the next couple of weeks around that Aussie squad.
Much to play out, What are you laughing?
Speaker 2 (06:38):
What do you want me out?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
And I'm straight on your doing. Sorry about that. Hey,
have a great weekend duals, and thanks so much for
joining us.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Thank Glad.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Please
