Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The water Boys with myself, Mitch
McPherson and Xavier Doldy and now turning to one of
our friends of the show and having a look at
cricket and talking about all things. How about hurricanes and
tazzy cricket is our man, Mac? Right, Mac, welcome to
the water Boys.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Thanks for having me back.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
So no, it's great to have you back on the show.
We love it, hey, mate. Before we get to the
cricket stuff, x and I were talking about this earlier
and I might put him in it here on the show.
I don't know that he was well across this. Did
you know this news? This personal news Mac had recently
getting engaged.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah, I've wrote on did you go?

Speaker 1 (00:30):
You just wrote it there?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Mac?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Congratulations mate, They must have been beautiful for you to
do that and get that achieved in life.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
No, thanks, Mat, Yeah, I was pretty nervous, but yeah,
it's nice to have that one done. And more importantly,
I'm glad I don't have to look after the ring anymore.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
That was oh yeah, ah too, Yeah, absolutely, yep. Can
attest to that that looking back one of the more
stressful times of life. Getting through that so well done
to you. Congratulations. Hey right, cricket, you're just home from
the Caribbean. Look, we also spoke about this earli as well.
We don't feel like it got a ton of air
time in The Hurricanes obviously took the world by storm
when you won the flag last year. But tell us

(01:06):
a little bit about the tournament. Who ran it, who
played exactly where you went?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, so this tournament was over in Guyana on The
tournament's called the Guyana Super League. Is the second year
has been running, so basically they just pulled together teams
from all around the world. The Hurricanes got invited because
they won the Big Bash last year. So look, we
took a team over there. We played four games and
if you make the final, you play a fifth, but

(01:30):
unfortunately we only managed one win, so we didn't get
that fifth game in. But it was a pretty cool
experience a different part of the world. It was marketed
to us as the Caribbean, but for those who've been
the Guyana, they't know that it's a different looking than
the rest of the time.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I was about to touch on this mac Most people
think of the white sandy beaches and the you know,
sitting on the beach drinking a cocktail. Did you manage
to Chris Gale Walkham past embrace any of that, did
just slip into holiday mode? It doesn't sound like you
did well.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
There was neuro white sand to be seen, and the
water was a dirty sort of brown color, so Brisbane exactly.
We didn't touch any of that, so it was mainly
hotel tools for us. But to be honest, it was
lovely and warm. Was thirty degrees plast most days, so
I think we just enjoyed a little bit of a
respite from the Hobart winter.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Oh absolutely, no doubt. I'm sure the sun would have
still been very, very nice. Now, maybe we want to
talk about a couple of teammates that you've got. We've
spoken on the show recently about how locked and loaded
this hurricane side he's going into next year. But you
must have been pleased by your way to have a
look at Mitch Owen having an immediate impact in his
international debut. How good was that to see it is
done real?

Speaker 2 (02:38):
I mean, like it doesn't really come as a surprise
now with the six months that he's had, but look,
it's so awesome, Like if you asked him at the
start of last season that he'd be playing for Australia,
making fifty on de Ber and just lighting the world up.
I don't think he would have believed it either, So
it's awesome to see and it's pretty cool that it

(02:59):
can actually happen so quickly. So it gives hope definitely
for the rest of us training the way back here
in Hobart that you just need a few little fighting
door moments and you can be up at the top
level in no time.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Another one who's gone from back of the pack to
seat one A is another teammate of yours, Jake Weatherold. Yeah,
he's almost he's almost boxed positioned to take one of
those openings positions in the Test team. What are your
thoughts there?

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Oh, definitely, I think like with us getting the train
alongside and play alongside Weathers, it doesn't really come as
a surprise to us the way he is too. Honestly,
I believe he's one of the best batsmen in the
country when he's on and his current fullrounds really placing
him in a good position obviously with lead leading run
scorer in the Shield last year. So look, I think

(03:46):
his position beautifully and Honestly, I'd love to see that
call up because I think he would do a fantastic
job up there.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
We're very excited to see what happens with that news.
Mat Now that you're were Cindy's junkets all over. What
now the back into the as you mentioned in a
moment ago, back into the cold pre season, he's everyone back.
Tell us a little bit about that, and how are
you feeling, because of course still coming back from that
ACL injury and only getting a couple of games in
late last season.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, no, we're just back into training now under the
Hobuck crew found its way back here. We're still missing
a few members of our full Tassi squad. Guys still
open the UK playing in the different leagues around the world,
So yeah, look, we're just trained for a few more
weeks and we had up to daal And for another
tournament up there T twenty again, So at the moment
we're just focusing on a bit of red ball cricket,

(04:31):
just because we feel like this pre season has been
quite T twenty focused. So yeah, look we'll just put
the head down for a few more weeks and then
get a bit more warmed again in dal and which
would be pretty nice mate.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
And some news for you as well that we heard
recently that you've made the move from Linda's fan of
where you spend a lot of time over to Clarence now,
so talk to us a little bit about that move
and making that transition of clubs in the CTPL.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, it wasn't an easy move. I've fluffed my time
at Linda's Farm, been there for a good nine or
ten seasons. They've been great to me, but I just
saw a little time for a bit of a change
of scenery, just just to find that and enjoy it
again with the club cricket and just playing with a
different group as well, the likes of same seeing Rainbird,

(05:16):
Harry allenby Mike Jones, some of the local legends at
their club, it'd be pretty cool to play alongside them.
And yeah, I just think it's it's just something that's
gonna I don't bring a little bit of enjoying us back.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I reckon very important. And I tell you what, you're
playing with rain Bird now and me you'll be playing
at Oha footy club as well, so they're dominating him
both both fields of sport. Those boys I absolutely love
it Hey Mac as always mate, thanks for joining the show.
We're glad they had a great trip away and we
were sure all the best with this preseason. We can't
wait to see you out there knocking them around again.
It's going to be great.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Thanks very much, Eliv
