Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the water Boys with myself, Mitch
McPherson and Xavier Dohity and the tn LX Well, the
Tasmania Netball League gets to round twenty one, the final
home and away round of the season, and we're really
lucky enough to be joined by Northern Hawks netball captain
Lydia Coot Lydia Welcome to the water Boys.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Thanks guys, thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
No absolute pleasure to have you on. Well, we've reached
around twenty one, as I mentioned, final round of the
roster TNL home and away. You had the bye last week.
Was that a good chance to freshen up ahead of
a big game today and then obviously finals coming up?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, I guess by around is always a nice time
to step away from netball and let recover, refresh, and yeah,
we're looking really forward for today's game and I think
as a team we're feeling really good and ready to go.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Now, you currently sit third on the ladder. If Mitch's
research is it's pretty sound, is right, and it doesn't
seem possible that you can move from there. How have
you viewed your season.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
As a whole. Well, at the start, we definitely had
some changes. Previously we had a team that really had
been together for a while, and then we've had some movements.
So going into it, we were looking at a lot
of changes and looking at how we can sort of
adapt to that and move together through the season. And
I think with those changes, we've definitely grown a lot
(01:19):
and we've learned so many new things. So just to
be in a top four position we're really happy with
because you know, you obviously want to play finals and
it was all quite new to a lot of us.
So yeah, it's been really enjoyable. It's been something different
for the players that have been here for a while
as well, but overall we've had so much fun and
it's nice to have a bit of a different sort
(01:40):
of environment as well. So no, I've really enjoyed it,
and I'm really happy that we've made it into finals,
as I expected we could. But yeah, very very happy.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Hey you mentioned you mentioned lots of you have had
a lot of changes with your side as a skipper.
How you have you found that have you enjoyed the
challenges that that might bring to you know, harness a
new looking side and obviously, as you said, you've done
well to you'll be playing finals, so you must be
pretty pleased with that given the changes that you've had.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Yeah, I'm very happy with it. Like I've been playing
for Hawks since twenty nineteen and pretty much the same
team with maybe one or two changes, So I was
very excited when we had some new players come up.
But we've also had players that have been the team
but have maybe sat more on the bench behind other players,
so they're sort of getting their opportunities as well. I
(02:27):
really enjoy It's like an enjoyment to see these players
come on and thrive and grow. So yeah, it's something
exciting and it's something that I've sort of been looking
forward to since i found out the team.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Absolutely no, well, said Heay, and look looking ahead to
tonight's game five point thirty pm tonight at the Silvered
Only suit up against the Southeast Sons. Look, there's no
denying it's a little bit of a dead rubber, dead rubber,
But what would you like to see from your side,
knowing that there's a big game coming up next week
for the finals.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I think just to really cement our final sort of
push before finals, we've had the moments where we've played
really really well, and then we've had a couple of
games that we just felt we haven't quite been able
to produce what we want to. So I think for
this final game before the finals is just to really
get out there and show as us as a team
and each other that you know, we're we can do it.
(03:18):
We've got great ability to play, and yeah, just go
out and just pretty much do what we want for
finals and use this opportunity, sorry, use this as like
the last opportunity to be able to do that.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yeah, nicely said, now said. The Cavs are the team
to beat. They sit unbeaten on top. I think you
guys had a crack at them only a few weeks ago.
What did you learn from there? If you do have
to encounter them again in.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
The finals, I feel like last time we played them,
we really weren't able to give what we wanted to give.
They are a very good quality side. However, I feel
like we can match it with them. Yeah, Like it's just, yeah,
they're a great side and they are the pinnacle of
the competition at the moment that you know, we've got
that hunger and that's right. We know what it's like
(04:02):
since the top of the table and want that win
and it's definitely not going away, So just leading into
if we do get to face them again, just to
go out hard. They're not going to tire, They're not
going to slow down, So it's just right out the
sixty minutes pretty much, and I feel like we should
definitely do it. We just have to have things go
our way as a team and be nice and confident
(04:24):
and yeah, ready to keep up with them.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Though, yes, well yeah, you have to keep up there
or a formidable force. But finals, anything can happen. You
never know when you get that opportunity against them. Now
in finals, it is looking like you will face Crips
next week, so tell us about them. They look likely
to finish in fourth. So how do you see that
match up happening?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Well, I feel like we match up really well against them,
and they match up really well against us. We've lost
once against them, we won once and then the last
time we met them we drew Wow. So we're hoping
the fact that we're going to have, possibly because we're
higher than the ladder, hopefully a home court advantage. But yeah,
it should be a really good game match up wise,
(05:03):
I think across the whole court, everyone matches up really similar,
so hopefully it's just going to go our way on
the day, but yeah, it will be a very good game.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Fingers crossed. Well, of course, that's next week and you
do have the Suns this afternoon, so we wish you
all the best with that game. Hopefully that all goes
to plan and the Crips game next week in the
first week of final sounds like an absolute cracker Lydia
Kop from the Hawks Northern Hawks Netball Club, thanks so
much and all the best for the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Awesome, Thanks very much, guys,
