Speaker 1 (00:00):
No matter what they're spot, where it's played, all the
teams behind it, We've got it.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Thanks to Tasmag, Devin Ford, mon Sesston, Bridgewater and Smifton,
your local Koboda dealer.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Good morning everyone, Happy Easter and welcome to the water Boys.
A lot of people take holidays at this point of
the year, Cam Brown, but we are here ready to
deliver two hours of fun and frivolity as we do
each and every Saturday morning.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
How are you and Happy Easter.
Speaker 5 (00:26):
You're Happy Easter to you, Brennan'm going really well this morning,
looking forward to the next couple of hours. It's a
bump a weekend of sport, we said, we tend to
say that every weekend.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Easter is though, isn't it It is. It's a really
good time of year for local sport too.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Particularly.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Let's start there actually, because we have one game in
the TSL overnight and it was the running premier is
Lon Sester ninety five knocking off north onn Sesson ninety
one in the Crosstown Derby. So a nice tight game
to start the TSL season. Then we'll go through the
other TSL results later. But AFL one game yesterday on
Good Friday.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Yeah, North Melbourne eleven eighteen eighty four were defeated by
Carlton sixteen eleven one hundred and seven. Carlton sort of
blow them away in the second half. North Melbourne kicked
a few junk time goals which probably flateterd them a
little bit, but the first they need to do it.
They were terrific in the first half. North Melbourne they
took it right up to them.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Very good NRL last night.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
We had a couple of games yesterday and the second
one particularly got more interest.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Yeah, well, particularly because the Dolphins were rank outsiders and
so for those that don't know, they're in their inordal
season with Wayne Bennett's coach, highly decorated coaches coach a
number of NRL teams and then he'd got the job
done with his team. Last night the Cowboys twenty two
were defeated by the Dolphins thirty two in North Queensland
(01:45):
good point. And then the other match, the Bulldog sixteen
were thumped by the rabbit Ohs fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Very nice unfortunately a loss for Our Matilda's overnight and
the friendly against Scotland one goal to nil. A couple
of games in the A League yesterday one old draw
beats between Adelaide United and Sydney FC and Central Coast
Mariner's three defeated Western United zero. So there's your scores
from overnight. We'll get to a few more as we
(02:10):
go through. We've got the golf on as well, Branni,
which we'll touch on throughout the morning as well, because
a lot of interest in the Masters, has no doubt
about that. As we said, they've got a big show
this morning coming up later on in our number. So
we're going to talk basketball with Northwest Sunday coach Nick Haywood.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
We're going to look at the.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
AFL so far and preview the rest of the upcoming ground.
Trent Bormla will join us as well. He's the coach
of the kimber foota club. They got off to a
great start yesterday with a winner over North High Barton.
Round one of the TSL coming up in our our one. Though,
I'm going to do questions without notice, Brannie. I'm sure
you're well prepared for that seament.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
You met up all not preparing.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Questions suggesting that I'm not prepared on the fly.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Correct, I'll be right.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Soccer We're going to talk to soccer with Jennif Farrow, who's
recently played w League with Adelaide United.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
She's back home playing with the South.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
About's looking forward to talking to Jenna and also Hayden
Nielsen will join us, who's the race director for the
upcoming City to Casino Run Fun Run, which celebrates its
fiftieth anniversary this year.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Wonderful achievement.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
But up NeXT's going to look through some of the
scoreboards across the state because, as we said, lots of
local sport happening.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
We'll do that next here on the.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Water Boys, thanks to our great partners at Tasmac, your
local KMBUTA dealer. It's Brent Costello and Cam Brown for
your Saturday morning. This is the water Boys, thanks to Tasmac,
your local Commuta dealer.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
It's the water Boys with Brent Costello and Cam Brown.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
What, When, Where and why The water Boys take a
look at what's happening across the state this weekend.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Plenty happening, as we said off the top of the
show over the Easter weekend. So let's go through some
of the scores from yesterday. Of course, good Friday footy
in the TSL.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
This season launch.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Let's start at North Hobart over where the Tigers had
a big win against North Hobart seventy four to twenty nine.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
To catch any of that game, Brew the.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Saw someone that really impressed with College kick four goals, Brent,
a much improving forward for the Tigers. But yeah, they
really put the foot down early in that first half
of North Hobart struggle. They only kicked one goal through
Don White in the first half, and I thought they
battled out pretty manfully in the second half North Hobart.
But in the end a compana win for the Tigers,
(04:18):
which I think many people would have them I know,
very very early on in the season, Brent, But I
think the Tigers a lot of people have them finishing
pretty high at the business end of the season.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Yeah, you think so when you're just like last year,
where's North Hobard at? What do you think they've lost
some experience over the off season of course led by
Huey Williams senor Kilpatrick's gone as well among others. Where
do you see them in twenty twenty three?
Speaker 5 (04:42):
I think it's going to be another long season for
North Hobart. Again, a small sample size, but they lack
a little bit of depth in the midfield from what
I saw yesterday, didn't have a lot of tour marking
forwards inside fifty that they could go to. And that's
illustrated by the fact that Sam Right in his first
game was their leading goal kicker with two. Joe Sandricks
(05:03):
started in the back half, which is a change for
him normally we know he's in the midfield. Yeah, but
they've lost a lot of players, haven't they in the offseason,
and it's player retention that's been a real issue I
think for North Hobart, whether or not players have moved
to other competitions, moved to other TCILL clubs, or moved
to the Sandfill, or been drafted those sorts of things.
So I think it's gonna be tough for you.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
We'll talk to Tiger's coach, Trent Bormolat later in the
show to review that game in a little bit more depth.
And I called the Lauderdale Clarence game yesterday Brownie, really
disappointing start for Lauderdale under the new coach Alan Christensen.
But Clarence were fantastic. They had a few players out
pre show was out. James Holmes was out their captain
(05:45):
of course, and Jared Harper was out as well, but
didn't deter them as a one eighty nine points to
forty seven.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Did you catch in that game as well?
Speaker 5 (05:54):
On the str I've flicked it over a few I
couldn't see the first half of the stream, Brent, we
won't go there issues Ndle issues. Yeah, that covers all things,
but I saw a little bit of it. I focused
more on the Tigers North O Bark game. But and
Noah home since returning to Dosa, must have been one
of the dominant players on the ground yesterday with five goals,
(06:15):
but again it looked like they struggled up forward to
Lord dar what about Yeah, ye.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Stixy Blackburn was pretty quiet early on and then got
a couple of other goals.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I think in the last quarter. It was in the end,
but he.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Was well held by Harry Fisher there throughout the game.
But yeah, just you looked through Lord Dale's listen, they've
got some really good players still the names we've known.
It'll be associated with that club for a long time.
But again they've lost some experience too over the off season,
so I'm not sure where they rank in twenty twenty three,
we'll get a bit more of an idea moving forward
(06:48):
and north On Sesston, unfortunately for them, went down to
the running premiers long sets in a real close game
at Utahs Stadium last night, ninety five to ninety one.
Jack Event's two hundredth game for north On Sesson to star.
He's been Brownie. He's played it all the way.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
Jacko Van a lot, a lot and multiple premierships, a
loyal servant of the club. But his versatility has been
one of the great strengths of his footy career. We've
seen him playing at midfield, he's played down back. It
can kick goals as a forward, so and then fantastic
for him to play two hundred games. Unfortunately, can quite
(07:23):
get across the line for his team last night.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
So Tigers the early leaders on top of the table
in the TSL, then Clarence and Lonceston, North Lonnie Lauderdale
and then North High Bark GLENORKI of course had the
buy and they'll get I think Lorderdale first up for
their first game next weekend. Let's go to the SFL yesterday,
Round one of the SFL and a big win for Humanville.
(07:46):
A lot of high expectations on human ville've done a
lot of recruiting over the offseason. They had a big
win over Linda's Fan by fifty one points in the end,
so that's a really good start for the Lions.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Brownie. Yeah, it's a bit of a change for Linda's Fan,
isn't it again? Very early on the season, but they
spent the whole year undefeated on their way to a
premiership last year, so a bit of awakening for them
at the Huan Valley yesterday. So a fifty one point
winner is a bit of a statement, isn't it. We
know Lindis Van had a few players out yesterday, but
they were totally out class by Hwanvill. A great start
(08:18):
for them.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
A bit of a tough few years for Claremont, so
nice to say they have a really big win yesterday
over in Norfolk twenty fourteen one thirty four to four
four twenty eight. We've known in Norfolks there's been rumors
about their playing numbers over the off season, but obviously
they've got the senior team of the park which is
the main thing. But that's a pretty heavy loss for
the Eagles to start the.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Save was and unfortunately for them. It was one of
their ex players, joy Bim, and he did the damage
against him with six goals on to do against his
former club.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Okay, and the final game yesterday so was a good
win for Dodgers Ferry down at Shark Park ten to eleven
seventy one over Brighton seven eleven fifty three. We know
Paul Kennedy's got the Robins up and firing, but not yesterday.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
It was a win for the Dodgers, yes, and well
they tell me that the Brighton boys had a few
out yesterday, so they'll be disappointed they having lost that
a terrific gun again from Max Lamb. Four goals in
a losing team, one of the better GOALKI because I
would have thought in the SFL competition only a younger man,
probably only twenty at this stage, but he has got
a really brought future ahead of him.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Max Lamb absolutely only one game in the NWFL yesterday,
that was at Latrobe and it was Devonport. The raigning
premier is one hundred and eighteen to forty two over
the Demon's got a couple of games today though, first
ones at West Park between Bernie and Winnyon. That'll be
an absolute crack at top of the table clash and
i'd say the early Brandy but one v two, so
that'll be good to see two twenty this afternoon. And
(09:41):
the other game is at Alveston between Olveston and Circular
Ahead and that's six verse seventh on the ladder. So
looking forward to some action in the NWFL. The startternoon.
The NTFA, they're not playing this weekend for East they've
got the week off, but in that competition they're one
round in and Scottsdale are on top the table obviously,
while percentage only ahead of South lon Ceston, Della Rain
(10:04):
and Hillwood. So looking forward to the NCFA resuming next weekend.
The hockey, the hockey is in an interesting spot at
the moment. They've just got a series of midweek games
for the next few weeks, so looking forward to that.
We had some games on Wednesday night. Next one coming
up is between Diamondbax and Dorwitt in the men's and
women's competition, so that'd be a good big weekend of
(10:25):
local soccer though camp because it's lack of sel Jack
Cup weekend and the men's and the state wide Cup.
In the women's competition, we'll just quickly go through the
men's games for this weekend. Riverside versus barnstone Worth that's
at Windsor Park this afternoon two o'clock, Elverston hosting Hobart
United at the Elveston Showgrounds from two, Devonport and Olympia
(10:46):
at Valley Road from three, and we've got Clarence and
Torono going head to head at Wentworth Park from three
o'clock as well.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Then some games on Monday.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
South Hobart is at Home to Newtown at Darcy Street
from two o'clock, Lonnie United and lon Cesson City at
Birch Avenue from two o'clock and at Kingbra won't play
because I think the Northern Ranges are pulled out in
the men's competition for the state wide Cup.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
This year right any reason.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
I'm not sure the exact reason.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
I'm not sure if it's a higher thing or what
the official line is, Brandy, but that's what i've heard
on the Great Vomb. We had Milnurkey Knights hosting Beachside
last night as well, and the women's competition. We've got Riverside,
Olympic and Devonport at Windsor Park from eleven this morning,
Loncesson City and Clarence at Birch sorry Buckby Motors Park
two o'clock, Bernie United and lon Cessey United at Montello
(11:31):
Park from two and on Monday one game at King
Bra and at University at KG five at eleven o'clock.
So that's it. No netbo either happening for a little while.
We've got a bit of a break in the Tasmanian
Netball League, so we'll get back to that in a
couple of weeks time when it resumes.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
So that gives you a bit of a wrap up
of what's happening around the state. And we've got plenty
more still to come.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
This hour on the water Boys not too far away,
we dive into question without notice. We also talked soccer
with Wle goalkeeper and South Hoback goalkeeper Jennifer Open Up.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Next, we're talking the City de Casino.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Fun Run, which is about to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary.
That's with the race director Hayden Nielsen. Next on the
water Boys right across Tasmania. Thanks for Tasmack, your local
Commuta dealer.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
This he is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Thanks to Tasmack, your local combuta dealer. It's the water
Boys with Bran Costello and Cam Brown on this Easter
Saturday for twenty twenty three and thrilled to have a
superstar in the studio with Asi Man has done a
lot for sport in Tasmania and he'll bow out this
year of the City de Casino Fun Run after its
fiftieth anniversary. It's an amazing achievement. Heyden Nilsen. Welcome back
(12:38):
to the water Boys.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Thanks very much, Brent.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
How are you feeling, mate, because this will be your
last one? I believe.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I know it's hard to get away from these things completely,
but as far as race director goes, this is it.
But you've been there from day one, haven't you?
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Fifty? So I have.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
I ran the first twenty, then I went on the
committee for the next ten and I've been actually chairming
and race director co race director for the last twenty years.
So it's been a long haul but I've enjoyed every
moment of it. But it's time, I think, for someone
else to come in and they might have some other ideas,
and to be quite honest, it's a fairly arduous task
(13:16):
now to get it together. But Kim I've got Kim
Gillard and Tim Smith going to take it over. They
took over the Point to Pinnacle from Allan Ryder and
myself and they've done a great job with that, so
they'll do a fantastic job with it.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Let's go back to the start because I love this story.
How it all came about the city to Casino. For first,
of those who don't know that are in the north
of the state, this is a run from Glenorchy down
to Hobart's Rest Point Casino.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
So just how did it all come about?
Speaker 6 (13:46):
Yes, what happened? There were four athletes from Hobart, good athletes.
The four of them were Frank Hill, mic O Loughran,
Graham Cruz and Tony Risby. They went to the city
to serve Sydney in nineteen seventy two and when they
came back they thought, gee, we ought to start a
running Hobart similar so they went to an approach rest
(14:09):
Point and Rest Point were very keen about it. So
hence they got it up and running in nineteen seventy three.
Frank Hill still alive. Unfortunately others have left us, but
he's still alive and he's wrapped that it's still continuing.
He didn't expect it to go for fifty years.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
What about the changes, Hayden, Was it always the same course?
Speaker 2 (14:31):
No.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
What happened cam was that the police started to worry
about traffic issues. We started at glen Orchye out firstly
at near the Cryps Bakery in Swallow's Parade, and then
about three years after that we started from the glen
Orchie Post Office, ran down through North Hobart and we
had crowds of thousands of people on the side watching.
(14:55):
It was really good entertainment for the people to watch
all the runners go through down through the Mall into
Davy Street, round and around Salem, around Saint David Square
and down through Sandy Bay Road. But around ten years
after that they made.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Us move to.
Speaker 6 (15:18):
Over to the Brooker Highway because it was safer for
traffic and we also had those early days. After about
five years we introduced a five k from Clare Street
down to the casino, but the police once again thought
it was too dangerous, so we rescheduled the event and
(15:42):
moved to the Brooker Highway right opposite the showgrounds and
they run in the highway around Knillian Bay behind Government House.
And then down through Sandy Bay to the finish and
the seven point five k starts at the boat house
and that's still continuing. We started that in around nineteen
(16:03):
ninety I I think lled late eighties the seven k,
and that's become very popular. That's a walk and a run,
so it's a walk casual aflute.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
That's where we sort of fall into the category of
the walk.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
And then only about twenty years ago we introduced two
point seven for the primary school children and their parents
and that now is where the growth area is a
lot of people now, a lot of the kids want
to do it and they love having their parents do
it with them, and it's become an enormous event for us.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
When you first started and you were heavily involved in
racing going back a few years now. But was it
more as a social event as much as any or
was really try and attract some No, it's always right
from the word go.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
No.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
Well, we used to have the original organizers had contacts
and they brought some in international runners over, people like
Andrew Lloyd. Yeah, there was Chris Wardlaw, Dave Chetell, he's
(17:13):
a Tasmanian, Steve Austin. So they used to bring a
lot of top liners just over for the event, but
the last twenty years we've just had local content and
it's worked out really well.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
And still a few weeks away from the race itself,
but I guess how entry's going at this early stage.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
They're about on par with previous years. Six weeks out
we've got around about six hundred the moment. That might
sound many, but people traditionally in Tasmania particularly leave things
at the last moment, and so we expect that the
last two weeks entries will come from everywhere, you know,
(17:53):
and now I'm hoping that we can get up around
the four to five thousand.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
In the.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
Twenty twelve when we had our fortieth anniversary, we had
four thousand, nine hundred and eighty, which is a record
in Tasmania by street and per capita. That's as big
as any event in Australia.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
It's amazing.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
We're going to get you back in closer to the event,
will dissect who the winners might be and talk a
bit more about the initiatives for the fifty years. But
thanks coming in this morning, Hayden. It's great to get
a feel for the fiftieth anniversary. The City to Casina
and look forward to chatting to you in the lead up.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
Thanks very much, Brent, Thanks Cam.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Haden Nielsen joining us in the studio does a wonderful job.
As I said, with lots of events here in Tasmania,
fifty years of the City to Casino coming up for
your next month. Can't wait for it. I can't wait
for what's to come in the rest of the show
as well. This morning not too far away questions without notice,
but up next we're talking soccer with W League goalkeeper
Jenna Farrow here on the water Boys right across Tasmania.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Thanks to tas back your local Kabuta dealer.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
This here's the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Thanks for our great partners at Tasmack. I listened to
the water Boys for your Easter Saturny day morning. We've
brentcros Alo on Cam Brown.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Here's the water Boys World game wash up.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Great to be joined by this star on the line.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
She's been over in Adelaide as a goalkeeper for Adelaide
United in the W League. We know from a footy
background as well. Look forward to talking about that with
Jennif Farrow. Welcome back to the water Boys, Jenneral.
Speaker 8 (19:19):
Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Great to have you on board and well done on
what you've been able to do with your soccer over
the last twelve months or so. We might start with
your journey because we know you do have a footy
orsie rules background as well. But you've been sort of
juggling two sports I suppose, but soccer is your full
focus at the moment, is it.
Speaker 9 (19:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (19:38):
Yeah, It's been an interesting journey, that's for sure. I've
been juggling the two sports for about six six years
or so now, and you know, every now and then
i'd just switch back to the other. But moved to
Melbourne last year and played for South Melbourne in the
NPL and obviously had a pretty good season got picked
(19:59):
up by adelaid United, so kind of that cemented soccer
for me currently. But you know, always always up in
the air with which sport I'm playing. So but right now,
right now.
Speaker 10 (20:10):
Soccer is a priority for me.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
Yeah, fantastic.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
So it just goes to show I guess if you
have a good year, the eyeballs are on you, aren't they.
And just tell us about the negotiation process. I supposed
to get you over to Adelaide because that must have
been a real thrill when they came knocking on your door.
Speaker 10 (20:25):
Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise.
Speaker 8 (20:27):
So early on in when I was in Melbourne, I
got picked up by a talent agency called Kick, so
it was a train on.
Speaker 10 (20:35):
I wasn't really.
Speaker 8 (20:36):
A train on, but I trained a few times with
Melgon Victory early on when they had a few injuries
just prior to me starting the South and that was
a really good opportunity and that's where a kind of
kick came in. And then I was playing well in
the NPL and they had the relationship with Adelaide United
and the conversations kind of just slowed from there and
got the opportunity to go over. So yeah, that's kind
(20:58):
of how it happened.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
And Jennahan, did you enjoy your time over in Adlaie
because it can be a difficult place sometimes for a
goalkeeper when you're waiting for opportunity or injury or suspension
to probably break through and show them what you can
do at the highest level.
Speaker 10 (21:13):
Yeah, it's an interesting one. Like I wasn't going over
too naively, Like I understood my position.
Speaker 8 (21:19):
In you know, not being the first choice keeper. I
was going over as my first season, just to learn
as much as possible and having that because you know,
when you're in lower levels like NPL or here and Tazzy,
you don't really have a dedicated female keeper coach. So
it's just you know, having that opportunity to fully dive
into keeping full part time really, so that was what
(21:43):
I went over for.
Speaker 10 (21:44):
But yeah, it's one.
Speaker 8 (21:45):
Of those things of like you want the keeper above
you to do well, but you're kind.
Speaker 10 (21:49):
Of secretly hoping that they might pick.
Speaker 8 (21:51):
Up an injury or a card that you can get
your opportunity, but you're kind of just waiting in.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
The wings for that and generally understanding talking to your
fair is it it was a one you deal last year,
but you do have the option for both parties if
you want to extend that into next season. How long
I guess before you have to make a decision with that.
Speaker 8 (22:12):
Yeah, I'm not overly sure on the logistics around that.
I think that really comes down to the conversations I'll
have with adelaide and with my talent manager, but I'm
assuming that would have to happen within a few months
or so. But yeah, that's really comes down to whether
both parties agree on that extension or not.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Jennif Farrow is our guests on the water Boys this morning.
She's a soccer superstar and Jenny, you've decided to come
home and play with South Hobart here in the Women's
Super League.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Tell us about that decision.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
I guess, did you have the opportunity to go back
to South Melbourne if you wanted to.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
Yeah, I had a few opportunities in Melbourne, but I
guess it's kind of a it's a weird timing when
the A League sees and ends that. You know, the
seasons have already started around Australia and I have full
time work and missing the family a bit, so I
thought it was, you know, the best thing for me
to come home for six months or so, just you know,
save some money and spend some time with the family,
(23:06):
because you know, I'm really close with my parents and
my sister and it was hard being away for that
year and a half not seeing him very often. So
you know, I'm being a goalkeeper. It's a bit fortunate
that it doesn't matter really what leads you're in, you're
always going to have shots against you or you're not
really like I guess burdened by the league standard, even
though the Tazzi League is not too bad. But yeah,
(23:27):
that was kind of the decision I made to come home.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Yeah, fantastic. And why South Hobart.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
I suppose I used to play for Olympia and obviously
not in the top flight anymore, so I guess you
had to pick a new club.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
But what lands you at South?
Speaker 10 (23:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (23:41):
So I actually did pre season with South Hobert last
year prior to moving, so just before before and after Christmas,
before I moved to Melbourne, I was able to train
with the men and I think I gained a good
relationship there with South Obert, and when I did come
back sporadically during the season, I could always pick up
and train with them, and that was when Alistair was coaching,
(24:03):
which I have a really good relationship with Alistair from Olympia.
So and Ken Morton and I have a really good
relationship now and he lets me train with the men,
and it's just it's.
Speaker 10 (24:11):
A really good partnership there.
Speaker 8 (24:12):
So that's why I chose.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
South eventually and Jenna with the Statewide Cup, I notice
with interest to a favorable drawer in that you don't
play in the first round a buy for what it's
essentially worse. So that must be helpful, I guess in
terms of being able to get over injuries and just
getting a little bit more time and preparation for the group.
Speaker 10 (24:31):
Yeah, from what I gathered, we do have a few
injuries floating around the group, so it is really nice
to have that week off just everyone can have a
refresh and we got Long United away next weekend.
Speaker 8 (24:42):
So that's going to be a tough match because they're undefeated,
so it's really good to have that break just so
we can, yeah, recoup as a team and have put
a good session on the park this week, so hopefully
get a win.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Before we let you go.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
What's a lot training with the guys at South Hobart, Jenet,
It must be a unique experience.
Speaker 9 (24:58):
Yeah, it's good.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
You know, it's faster and it's the quality is really
high with the men, So I'm very fortunate to be
able to do that, and they're very welcoming, and you know,
I just feel like a part of the group, like
there's no really like outside this is kind of feeling
towards me.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
So yeah, no, really good, fantastic stuff. Well, we're likely
to have you back here in Tasmania. All the best
with South Hobart this season and we'll catch up with
you through the season, no doubt. And thanks for your
time on the water Boys on this Easter weekend.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Appreciate it, no worries.
Speaker 10 (25:27):
Thanks so much for having me.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Fantastic Jennif Farrow, there she goes. She's back in Tasmania
playing it for South Hobart in the Women's Super League.
Looking forward to seeing how she goes in season twenty
twenty three. We've got lots more still to come on
the water Boys this morning hour too, we talk basketball
with Nick Haywood. We look at the AFL so far
in provy, what's to come in round for Trent Bormola,
the coach of the Kingbo Footy Club, will join us
as well. But up next putting Cam under the pump
(25:49):
and he's gonna put me under pump as well with
questions without notice. You're on the water Boys doing it
all thanks to our friends at Tasmak you local Kabata.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Deal This is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Thanks to tas back your local Kabata dealer. It's the
water Boys on this East to Saturday with Brent Costelo
and Cam Brown.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
It's now time with.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
The toughest segment in Tasmanian radio is questions with that notice.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Oh yes, I love bringing this back and just putting
you under the pump cam round with some questions without notice.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Would you like to go first?
Speaker 5 (26:17):
I'd like to go first if I could. Brent, We're
not even a quarter the way through the AFL season.
But is it a fatal complete that Harry Schuesel will
win the AFL Rising Star? And the reason I say
that in his first four games thirty four possessions, thirty
twenty six and thirty seven possessions in a losing team yesterday.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Hard to hard to look past him at the moment,
isn't it? Obviously big raps On will Ashcroft up at Brisbane,
But goodness, gracious mate. He has started the season very nicely.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
And works he's way into games.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
I noticed too, sort of starts slowly and then builds
up and has big, big pushes towards the end.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
But he is a star.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
I watched him play a lot last year for Sandring,
Hammon and Vic Metro. He never played back, Brent too,
that's a frightening thing. He always played as a forward,
spent a little bit of time in the midfield, but
he reminded me of a soccer striker. He would just pounce.
His goal craft and ability to hit the scoreboard. He's unbelievable. Yeah,
he's doing it across half back at the moment. It
(27:13):
looks kicking out doing it all.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Yeah, amazing stuff. So yeah, to answer your question, I
reckon he can shut the gate.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Right, let's go to you.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
I want to stick with that sort of theme.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Nick Dakos, He's just next level, wasn't he someone comparing
saying he's the best since Chris Jarden. We know Juddy
won the Brownlow twenty years of age in his third year.
Did he give Nick Jakos a chance of winning the
Brownlow the next.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Year or two? I think so. Yeah. I mean he's
had an outstanding start to the season. Been Collingwood's best player.
I thought he was terrific. Again, just had a moment
there where he probably didn't quite put his head over
the footy at one point, which was highlighted. But we've
all done that and he's got a great balance at
the moment between he's uncontested and contested foot He's such
a beautiful kick and can hit the scoreboard. I would
(27:59):
have thought he probably would have poll votes potentially even
on not have only been the one vote on Thursday night.
But yeah, I think he's the star of the competition.
And his brother's very underrated too.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Oh he is absolutely all the focus on Nick, but
Josh a very good player.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Sticking with the AFL, we'll move off AFL shortly, Brent.
But where are we at? Dare I say it with
an AFL team out of Tasmania, because we seem to
go through these different periods and ways where there's a
lot of commentary and then it goes silent on feeling it.
We're in that silent stage at the moment. Can you
bring us up to speed?
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Well, this is clearly only my personal opinion of how
I okay, this is. I've got no mail because everyone's
remaining very tight. But this is how I think it
will happen, Branny. So the federal budget is in early May,
so I think we'll see a pre budget announcement where
they'll put some money towards the Precinct or whatever the
(28:53):
fancy term for it is now the Urban Renewal Project.
So that will happen as a pre budget announcement I believe,
and whether we see the announcement of the team straight
I think everyone knows if we get the starting to
get the team obviously, but to formalize that, I'm not
sure if it needs to go back to the president
straight away. It would be some sort of maybe two
or three week gap, one week gap, who knows. But
(29:14):
to actually get officially ticked off by the AFL, we
might be waiting a little bit longer, not too long.
But I don't think it all happened in one big
announcement because I want to distance themselves from the AFL
slash stadium. I think that the FEDS as well.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
So we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
But it's just a waiting game, as it has been
for a long time.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Yeah, that seemed like a bit of maneuvering and adjustments
made to get to the end result.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
It could be politically, yes, I think that's going to
be a big part of it, in the metage and
how it's exactly right. So we'll see what happens there. Hey,
TSL still on footy. We're in for the closest TSL
competition for a long time, aren't we. You're saying that
already The Northern teams are dominated for a long time
long Seyton. We know I've lost a few players, got
(29:58):
the good win last night of course round one, But
do you think it's pretty even Stevens this year?
Speaker 5 (30:03):
Well, I think the fact that you're right, the North
Lonston loncest in particular of monopolized the competition for a
number of years now, and it's been a while since
we've had a Southern team. When it was the last
time a Southern team won a premiership.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Brent would have been at two thousand and sixte.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Okay, So yeah, it has been a while, and I
think just you you're talking about on the basis that
launch us in a lot of lost a lot of
players that they've probably been brought back to the field
a little bit. Bere. I think that's a fair call. Normally,
if I could flip at this stage of the season,
we're saying, gee, it's going to be hard anyone getting
near Lon Ssteon, and previously we might have said North
lon Siston. So let's hope we've got a thriving and
(30:45):
even to yourself competition this year, Brent Jack Jumpers. Where
are we at with free agency again? I'm trying to follow.
It all seems to hinge from a jack jumper's point
of view as I'm reading as Milton Doyle is the
pivotal signing for them, and other dominoes might fall if
I read that correctly. Yeah, but what else is happening
in that space?
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Well, not much of the moment. It's pretty quick. Was
a poor question.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
We've seen a lot of announcements made by NBL clubs.
Will McDowell White was one that signed resigned with New Zealand,
which is great for them because he might have been
on the move potentially that Jack Javis had some interest
in him. Counto Pinned has gone to the Wildcats was
a huge.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
Get for Perth, but his dad used to play.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Yeah, absolutely, so yeah, Look, it's a waiting game. I'm
sure there's plenty happening behind the scenes, but it's a
jigsaw puzzle Browning, and as you said, Milton daw is
the priority. I'm pretty confident he will re sign. Just
listening to the words of Scott Roth, I think they
sound like they're a pretty good place and we know
Milton loved it here. So once that happens, maybe we'll
see a few more roll out.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
But at this stage.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
It's just going to be patient and trust the process.
I think a last one for you, who wins the
NBA this year?
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Do you think she's a question without it?
Speaker 5 (31:59):
See, I'm going to go with the Bucks to win.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Us Henis he's just he's just is above and beyond
everybody else and you watch them play, it's amazing.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
Well and he can have some dominant games as we know.
But from an Australian perspective, it would be fantastic because
we've got Joe Ingles who plays a role there, doesn't
he for the Bucks play some really good minutes, but
they're currently leading the East at the moment. Boston are
doing well in a Philadelphia in the mix, I think
(32:32):
it will definitely come from the East to winner. That's
that's my prediction for what it's worth. Brent, who are
they going to play again? Wouldn't be great if it
was against Phoenix. If we've got Landa running around there,
tours back up for eighton in the center position of
the Phoenix Suns and supporting people like Denver Devin Book.
Devin Book, I sorry, the Nuggets maybe in the West
(32:55):
would be right up there. But know if you if
I had to go with the team. I'm going to
go with the Bucks.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
Been great watching the Cooks become an NBA player.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
He's getting, he's getting in a good minutes because Washington Wizards,
they've got some injuries. They're currently about twelfth in their
division in the East as well, so probably there's a
school of thought that's saying that they're tanking at the moment,
which happens a lot in the NBA, and he's stopped
up some pretty good numbers.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Cooks absolutely. I saw him guarding Yarnis Holladay. It was
great to watch the get. He's just come from the NBA,
so the NBL championship winning team and then gone straight
at the NBA and defending the best player of the corps.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Great to watch, all right. That his questions, that was
it for you? You got nothing?
Speaker 8 (33:31):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Yeah, done?
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Close shop, beautiful, beautifully done. That is questions about notice
for another week. That is it for the first hour
of the show as well. We've got plenty more still
to come. In extra time, though not so far away
as the Northwest. Sunday coach Nick Haywood will talk about
the AFL so far and what's to come round Ford
Trent Bormla will join us as well the Kimber Footy
Club coach and wind up the show without Good Sport
Award and Cam's going to preview the stall gift for
(33:54):
us as well. That's all coming out two of the
water Boys right across Tasmania thanks to our friends at
Tasmak you Lokal Kabota Dealer.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Ah.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Yes, big first hour of the show, but we're going
to do it all again for another hour as we
get into extra time of the water Boys. Before we
do that, let's go through the overnight scores and the
afternoon score yesterday Branning between North Melbourne and Carlton.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
And the Blues is a nice win.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
Yeah, win to the Blues by twenty three points. Carlton
sixteen eleven one hundred and seven defeitted North Melbourne eleven
eighteen eighty four. The Twin Towers were dominant yesterday for
us to speak of. And McKay and Kai, what do
you go with, Brent?
Speaker 3 (34:34):
I think I say McKay, that's an interesting one. Name
might have to be one for questions out noticed next
week Brown we can dissect it a little bit more.
Let's go to the turn till overnight, a good win
to the Lone footy club, close win to ninety five
ninety one over North Conceess and in the big Northern
Derby up there at Utah Stadium. What about the NRL
last night? The Dolphins, the new kids on the block
(34:56):
continue to find a way here.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Well, they did extraordinary against the Cowboys. They defeated them
and they were the away team thirty two to twenty two.
They come back late the Cowboys, but they got off
to a fly of The Dolphins held on under the
tutelage of Wayne Bennett. How well are they going to
start their inordal season? And the other match Brent the
rabbit o'sh fifty thumpter Bulldogs sixteen.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
They did indeed a couple of games in the A
League yesterday as well. Adelaide and Sydney won on drawer
and Central Coast three defeated West of United Neil and
the Matilda's unfortunately went down to Scotland in their friendly
last night one Neil Hey big second hour coming up, Brownie.
Not too far away as the Northwest Thunder coach Nick Haywood.
We're going to look at the AFL so far and
what's to come for round four. Trent Bormla will join
(35:40):
us too. After the kingber Tiger's big win to open
the TSL season yesterday and one up the show. We've
got the good Sport Award and to prove you of
the stall gift that's still to come for you on
the water Boys and now too this morning.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Hope you can stick with us for the next sixty minutes.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Here's the water.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Boys, thanks to Tasmack, you local Cabota dealer. It's the
water Boys with Bran Cooscelo and a Cam Brown.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
It's time to shoot some hoops at the water Boys
talk all things basketball.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Yes we are.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
We had a bit of a false start, it's fair
to say in the NBA won last weekend a great
win for the Northwest sunder but now we've got a
week off, so all that momentum has been sucked out.
But joining us on the line to chat about the
Thunder's wonderful start to their campaign is their coach Nick Heyward.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Welcome to the water Boys, Nick, water Boys, good morning,
nice to talk to you mate.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Do you feel a bit that you have a great
win and there you don't get to play this weekend?
Speaker 9 (36:29):
Yeah, it's a bit flat, but I suppose I was.
I was also pumpy guy. I've got to spend a
bit of time with their families and whatever. I've just
leased to break, So you know it's not the end
of the world.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Absolutely, But yeah, the start mate, it must have been
really impressed. Obviously, Hobart, you never know what to expect
from the Charges early in the season. But to get
the job done lot you did, albeit it undemanded yourself,
must have been really pleasing.
Speaker 9 (36:51):
Yeah it was, I said to the boys. I said
to Mattie Ben as well. It's tough for us, Hobart
and Northwest. We don't get to play a blitz, so
we don't get any pre season games. To finally play
against another team after a few months of training. Is
it's actually just fun?
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Absolutely? And now take us back to the preseason. We
know you sent one of your important time on Tavius Murphy.
Where's that situation. I guess you're looking to bring someone
else in and yeah, bring us up to speed on
what's happening there.
Speaker 9 (37:19):
Yeah, it was a bit tricky sending him home, and
it wasn't even crazy. It was just a combination of
stuff and it just wasn't It just wasn't a good fit.
And some guys get out of here and they just
can't handle, you know, and that that was the case
with Monty. So in terms of getting a replacement, yeah,
we're definitely looking. It has to be someone within our
budget because it was a pretty extensive exercise to send
(37:41):
him home. So we'll just yeah, we've got a few
irones in fires at the moment, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
And Nick, you'd be delighted to get Trey Armstrong back
after three or four years away from college air. Do
you Assaysi's first game last week?
Speaker 9 (37:55):
Yeah, we had Sam McDaniel in his shirt all night,
so it was pretty tough for him. But look, suld
be one of the best defenders in the country, right,
So I think he'll find his form for sure. He's
been absolutely great at training, like he's think, he's been brilliant.
He's a I think the four years of college has
done him like unbelievably well, but now it's time to
(38:17):
find his so to home. So yeah, we've pump to
have him back.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
And do you set goals for the season? Nick? In
terms of I guess expectations of where you feel the
club should be come finals time.
Speaker 9 (38:30):
Yeah, well, I think this is my third year and
the first year we got I mean, we were sitting
on top and then the COVID thing happened, and then
last year we just had a fair few injuries that
hurt us. So we're aimings enough and sort of playoffs.
Can's I suppose what you're always aimed for. But I'm
maybe taking the leak out of off his book and
(38:51):
other coaches that I've had in the past, and just
we're just week by week, you know, one game at
the time. But yeah, we're silly if we don't aim
for playoffs.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
Sure, Nicko gets How are you enjoying the role? You know,
how much have you evolved as a coach over this
coming into your third season, as you say, in terms
of the direction, the tactics that the player management. What
have you learned about yourself over the last three years.
Speaker 9 (39:15):
Yeah, I mean, I feel like I've kind of coached
for maybe more than three years. When I suppose when
I played, I was point guard and I had the
ball a lot, so I felt like I had some
leadership qualities when I was playing. And yeah, the last
three years though, I mean It's been awesome the help
that I've had. I had Tony Webb for a couple
(39:35):
of years, and Jay Hughes now got Sam Armstrong, and
then Mark Radford's helping out now, so I've got some
pretty experienced people helping me, which allows me to do
a lot more of the culture stuff what I'm into
as well, and then the exes and ours we kind
of just figure out as a group. I feel like
the players these days kind of are pretty smart, especially
(39:55):
the ones that have come up through the Details system
of they kind of understand a lot as well. So
I really enjoyed the role. I love it.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
In fact, that's great to hear. Mate.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
You mentioned Coach Roth there before. How much access do
you have to him? And you must just be a
sponge around him trying to soak up as much information
as you can from the great man.
Speaker 9 (40:17):
Yeah, he's a good bloke. I mean we text a
fair bit and whatever, and he's got pretty good with
his feedback and he's been up to, you know, half
a dozen of our traintings over the past couple of years,
and he kind of just sits in and sits back
and he doesn't he doesn't interfere buddy. He's always up
(40:38):
with advice and conversation and stuff, so it's really good.
I mean, he's obviously super experienced, and you know the
fact that I had a few Jack Tumple boys last
year was it was good as well because it meant
that both him and Jacob Chance we Out and Slam
all their coaching staff were invested in us as they
were the charges too, So.
Speaker 7 (40:58):
It's yeah, it's good.
Speaker 9 (40:59):
I am completely a sponge when I'm around those guys.
I love learning from them.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
How's that for you?
Speaker 3 (41:04):
When you're running your training session, he's just sort of
in the background and seeing their morning his own business.
Do you feel a bit intimidated knowing he's watching over
you and what you're doing, given what he's done over
his career MBA and everything that's gone with it.
Speaker 9 (41:16):
Yeah, someone else asking me that, But I mean I don't.
I just I think if you're authentic, then you've got
nothing new way about it. If I was trying to
sell something that I wasn't actually good at, I suppose
I'd be worried. But I just I suppose coast the
way that I coach and still talk the same language
I talk. I suppose I'm a bit lucky being a
school teacher as well. I get to practice that day
in day out. But I didn't feel the pressure, and
(41:39):
I don't feel pressure.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
I like it. Like the answer very good.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Now, just for let you go to the Northwest coast
and basketball, mate, we know such a breeding gat ground
for players. Just it's so healthy up there. How is
things going up there at the moment for basketball made our.
Speaker 9 (41:54):
Kids are flying? I think I'm huge at recognizing that
Thunder's just a stepping stone where they want to go next.
I mean, Jacob Furthy, he's moved to Canberra and I'm
super proud of him.
Speaker 7 (42:07):
He's doing his thing with.
Speaker 9 (42:07):
The Global Academy and the AIF and then class Savage
will get off at a spot I'm sure, no, maybe
in July or whatever. But you know, with Kai and
Jacob and Eli French and Lucky Brewer, you know nothing,
nothing but proud.
Speaker 7 (42:23):
And there's these.
Speaker 9 (42:25):
Kids that have gone to college and they're doing their
thing like Ray Smith, and so I don into over
there at the moment. And then you know Taz is
home for a little bit right now and traying Kobe
Jackson back from college. I just think I just think
it's really healthy. And we got other kids that.
Speaker 7 (42:40):
Are coming through that are going to be great as well.
Speaker 9 (42:42):
I mean Nash Walker's fifteen and he'll play for Australia.
I've got no doubt young kids from Smithton so and
they're all involved in our program. They love coming to
Thunder training and putting on our color. So it's it's
the credit to basketball on the coast.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Outstanding stuff mate, And how you got next weekend?
Speaker 9 (42:57):
Yeah, we play Elsham who are loaded with a couple
of MBO guys you know, Angus Glover and Alan fox
Well just to name a couple, and then we played
Bendy Goal as well, so it should be a tough
broach it.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
Fantastic stuff mate.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Well, we really appreciate your time, particularly over easta thanks
for joining us and all the best as the season
continues for the Northwest Under.
Speaker 9 (43:17):
Thanks.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
Thanks very good there he goes Nick Haywood, the coach
of the Northwest Thunder, joining us on the water boards
with a star.
Speaker 4 (43:23):
And doing a wonderful job with the team up there.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
And Jesus is such a good place for basketball rounding
up there on the Northwest coast.
Speaker 5 (43:30):
Extrawdinary Well, I drived up in the Northwest Coast basketball,
hasn't it. They've always punched above there.
Speaker 4 (43:35):
I mean every when I played got we went up
there and got smacked every time. They just I don't
know what's in the water up there, but they do.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
And as Nick Haywood mentioned there, the roll call of
young stars they've got at the moment just throughout systems,
not just here but around Australia is amazing. So looking
forward to seeing how the thunder go in twenty twenty three.
Or We've got lots more still to come on the
show this morning, not too far away as the Kingbra
Footy Club coach Trent Bormler. But up next we have
a look at the AFL so far and provy what's
to come in round four? That's next on the water
(44:03):
Boys right across tas Main now thanks of Tasmac.
Speaker 4 (44:05):
You're local Cabota, this.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
If you're looking for something, Caboda, your head to Tasmac,
our proud partners of the water Boys. You are with
us on this Easter weekend. It's Brent Coostela and Cam Brown.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Turning their attention to the national game. It's the water
Boys AFL.
Speaker 4 (44:22):
Ram Yes, lots to talk about in around four.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
The AFL so far all started back on Thursday night
in Woolen Gabba with Brisbane Lines defeating Collingwood. It was
an interesting old game, Brownie. I had a feeling going
in the Brison to get the job done. They are
just a different team at the Gabba. With a no
ruck situation for Collingwood, with the crisp stuff lurking in
the background, I just thought it might have been Brisbane's
night and that's the way it panned out well.
Speaker 5 (44:46):
Charlie Cameron with six goals, was dominant, particularly in the
second half. Cameron Rainer one of the better games he's played.
I think they got him in the right spot. There
was a dangerous forward who can roll into the midfield
room required. So they had improved efforts too, didn't they
from the Twin Tools, who had probably copped a fair
bit of media criticism during the week. I talk of
(45:07):
Eric Kipwood and Joe Danahurst. So they all bobbed up
with a couple of goals. My check from a Tasmanian
perspective kick three in a really lively third quarter for him,
but a good response from Brisbane and a sort of win.
I think at one point they might have kicked eight
or nine in a row.
Speaker 4 (45:21):
Yeah, I think ten ten.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
Any issues from the Collingwood situation, they got some killed
and next week and gather around at the Adelaide Oval,
but no real.
Speaker 5 (45:31):
I know, I don't think so. I think most people
would suggest Colin would be one of the teams to
come the end of the season. So a bit of
a hiccup for them, but it's a tough ass usually
going up there against Brisbane. Their record has been outstanding
for three or four years now. At home.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
As we said earlier, really good start by North Melbourne yesterday.
I really put the pressure on Carlton up to half time,
but after that the Blues just skipped away and got
the job done in the end by twenty three points.
A few junk time goals for the North probably flattered
their score line a little bit.
Speaker 5 (46:02):
Yeah, I thought North would be really pleased with their
competitiess in the first half. In particular, they're developing a
nice midfield, aren't they. Davies uniac Simpkin And when you
think that, you know there's an opportunity for shoes or
maybe to roll through there a little bit later on
the season. We spoke about him earlier and one outstanding
start he's had to his career. So they would probably
be disappointed the way Carlton blew them away in the
(46:25):
third quarter and the first part of the last quarter.
But they fought back manfully, so they've been competitive. I
think there's little pockets of optimism there for North Melbourne supporters.
Now you're bullish about Freemantle today against Adelaide as we
turned to the game, so I can't see it. Adelaide
a number one team for scores from clearances in the
competition this year. Freemantle have lost eight out of the
(46:47):
last ten at Adelaide. I can't see it happening.
Speaker 4 (46:49):
I didn't know that stats. It make me change one.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
I just think, yeah, fre Paul started the season West
Coast easy win last week obviously in the end, but
I don't know Freeman of a very good some of
the names they got in there, led by Andrew Brashaw
obviously out of the middle.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
I think it is a big game for the Dockers,
massive game. I was really pleased with Chase Jones came
on as the sub last week then probably played about
forty minutes of footy, but you could argue it was
the best forty minutes of his AFL career. He was
very composed across the wing, made some good decisions and
then kicked a long bomb out. So I had fifty
to seal the deal for Adelaide. So he's obviously fought
(47:25):
his way into the starting twenty two. So Adelaide for mine,
and that one like you're going to say something to me,
Well you talk.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Now, I'm looking him free Mantle Still, I just like bullish,
and bullish just led me to the next game. Of course,
it was shocked this morning where you thought told me
that the Western Bulldogs are good things against Richmond tip
of the round brand despite a poor record against the
Tigers at the.
Speaker 5 (47:45):
End of and that that is a good comment Rewald
and Cotch and rested, which I thought was interesting when
they get Martin and hop her back. Yeah, this is
a really big game, isn't it, Because for the loser,
they slipped to one three and all of a sudden,
off the pace a little bit. And you're talking about
two teams that have really struggled to score so far this year.
The Dogs just haven't had the connectivity with their inside
(48:09):
fifty entries the same with Richmond a little bit. I
think this will be a close game, but I think
the Dogs just Richard.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
Might be one three w had the draw camp core
position as your Western Woodogs would be. But anyway, we'll
see what happens there. A good game tonight sus and
Kilda and Gold Coasts. Can you see the Gold Coast
challenging the Saints.
Speaker 5 (48:28):
Sht Well, it'd be really important, I think because they
had a great win last week against Geelong Gold Coast
against expectations I would have thought from a lot of
the footy pundits out there. So it's important that they
stump up some consistency and back up that game with
a really strong effort. But securedor flying at the moment,
I think it's a danger game for the Saints. I
reckon they get it done by under ten points.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Yeah, be close one. I grew any chance of Port
to beat Sydney at the SCJ Well.
Speaker 5 (48:55):
They won six in a row against the Swan, so
they've got a very risk they have. Yep, they've got
a very good record against Sydney. But up there today
Sidney were really disappointing, weren't they in the last quarter
they got blown away by Melbourne. They they started slowly
then got back into the game.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
It's a really.
Speaker 5 (49:14):
Interesting mix, isn't it. Their forward line when Buddy's involved
other players, in particular Logan McDonald probably a Marty, they
don't have the influence that they would normally have if
he's out of the team. So you could argue Buddy
is still a terrific player and had a really solid
season last last year, but in some ways their forward
line statistically functions better when he's not there. And I'm
(49:37):
talking about the whole group. But I think Sydney will
get it done.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
Okay, a couple of games tomorrow Essendon and GWS. This
game intrigues me as well at Marvel Stadium, Brownie, the
early start to ten.
Speaker 4 (49:48):
Who do you like that?
Speaker 5 (49:49):
What intrigues you about it? Brent?
Speaker 4 (49:51):
Who's going to win?
Speaker 5 (49:53):
Basically?
Speaker 4 (49:54):
I think have Essenden slightly in front?
Speaker 5 (49:57):
Yeah. Yeah, it's been an interesting week for for GWS.
More about player descent. We haven't touched on that. That's
been done to death. But it was a really important
game I think for g W West because they had
a really strong win a couple of weeks ago. You
could have really tested Carlton last week almost could have
won that game. So I think this one will be
(50:18):
pretty close. But just the fact that it's at Marble Stadium,
I'll go for Estonton now westcause you get a game
for West Coast this week. Brendon because I like tired
looking at their injury's.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Comment last week where he went to the bench, turned
around and talked to someone that was no one there
because everyone was saying the rooms wherever they were because
they're all injured. But it's just a matter of how
many points in Melbourne went by. I would have thought, well.
Speaker 5 (50:41):
Their last five games that I think they've averaged at optics,
their average winning margin has been close to ten goals
Melbourne and then probably one of those games is the
twenty twenty one Grand Final.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
So wasn't a great day for the Days over, No,
it was they got.
Speaker 5 (50:56):
That night, they didn't they. I think it's yeah, it's
going to be pretty tough. I would have thought West
Coast to be competitive in that game. Melbourn should win
that one traditional game on Monday. Well, who would have
thought seventeenth versus eighteenth? I mean, who would have thought
the Cats would.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
Be three yes, actually said in the group chat at
the start of the season. Gelong will start none and
three they will not win a game into Easter Monday.
I think we all words and all you've been right
as you obviously you always.
Speaker 5 (51:24):
Are occasionally get one right friend, and that was it, No,
I think, But look Geelong, you would expect to bounce
back against that Hawthorne. They had a good win, didn't
they against North Melbourne last week up in Launceston. So
but here normally that's been a blockbuster Geelong Hawthorne. But
who would have thought seventeenth day and Gelong just have
to get a win. Hawthorne will probably close them down
(51:46):
and make it difficult for them, but the Cats to
return to the winners list.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
Big few games of footyr head over the next three days.
Can't wait for it to see how it all pans out.
I also can't wait to talk to this man next.
Trent Bormla, the coach the victorious King Bertiger's had a
good win against North Hobert yesterday. He joins us after
this on the water Boys thanks to tas Mak your
local Kabuta.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Deals the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
Happy Easter, you are waking up with the water Boys
for your Saturday morning brentcoss Elo and Cam Brown doing
it thanks to our friends at Tasmac, your local Kbota dealer.
Speaker 4 (52:16):
We're talking TSL on the show.
Speaker 5 (52:17):
Now from from Tiger.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
Very nice win to kick things off for the Kingbo
Football Club yesterday over the demons at North Hobard Oval,
big big win indeed. And joining us on the line
how to have a chat about the game is the
coach of the Tigers, Trent Baullar Get Trent, welcome back
to the show mate.
Speaker 7 (52:38):
Good morning Bren. Nice to hear that song first thing
on Saturday morning. Yeah, great to be on me.
Speaker 4 (52:43):
You got yall be good to get you up on about.
Speaker 3 (52:45):
It is a good song, isn't it, Tiger Land, There's
no doubt about that. But you're a nice start for
you guys yesterday. Mate, did what you had to do
and got the job done against the days.
Speaker 7 (52:53):
Yeah really I'm happy and concern obviously, you know, would
you like to start round one and get yourself ahead
of the ledger And yeah, guys played really well. I thought,
you know, all of them executed their roles. Who were
able to integrate a lot of you guys into our
team and into our system, and a couple of debutantes
as well, a couple of young guys. So yeah, really happy.
Speaker 4 (53:13):
So yeah, one and no, which is not what did
you think going into the game.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
Obviously there was a few losses for both teams over
the off season, I guess, but North Highbert lost a
fair bit of experience. But you can never underestimate the Deamons,
particularly on Good Friday in the season eight.
Speaker 7 (53:26):
And I suppose, yeah, exactly right, And I think you know,
we sort of, you know, we did a little bit
of homework on them, but we really try to focus
on us and what we wanted to do. And yeah,
there's always that little bit of unknown, especially when you've
got Yeah, I think we had something like eight guys
new guys into our into our team yesterday. So the
(53:47):
jumper presentation at the start of the fourth quarter, I
was a bit worried that that was going to take
nearly longer than the game at some stays. Yeah, but
those guys all performed their roles, and you know, we've
done a lot of work over the summer and the
pre season of clearly defining them those roles for them,
and yeah, they were all excellent. And then you know
(54:07):
our established guys, you know Lucky Cliff arg your kids,
you're Jack Tompkinson. Those guys all played really well and
dragged those guys along. So yeah, a little bit of
uncertainty on how it was going to come together, but yeah,
it looked pretty good in patches yesterday.
Speaker 5 (54:22):
Trent Brownie here, thanks for joining us. And a player
that was playing his the boo game for the club
was Nick Baker. Yes, I thought he was terrific. We
know Nick has had a highly decorated junior career at
Devil's level and been down at lord All and Sorell,
but he seemed to slote in really well for his
first game last yesterday.
Speaker 7 (54:41):
Yeah, Nicks. Yeah, Nick's an outstanding player, but also he's
an outstanding person. You know. I've got I've got a
pretty long history with Nick, having coached him through the
State under sixteen seventeens and Mariners and at Hobart City Deam,
and so yeah, it was nice that he sort of
you know, he's got a lot of good connections with
our club, with like Loki Kadomski and Ben Donnelly, guys
(55:02):
that he played his junior representative footy with and you know,
he wanted to come back up to TfL, but he
also wanted to play with those guys again before sort
of it was all said and done. So yeah, it
was really nice that he sort of fell into our lap.
But yeah, we know Nick's a great player. He'll play
a lot of different roles for US. I think he
(55:23):
played off half back yesterday early there was a little
bit of time on the wing and then sort of
on bowl as well. And yeah, he's sort of like
I sort of said during the preseason, he's going to
be a bit of a needs basis player for us,
sort of wherever we need a whole plug, maybe on
any particular week, Nick can go and do that job.
So yeah, really good to see him back playing TSL.
Speaker 5 (55:45):
And yes, glad it's with us and Max College too.
Another player has been around the system for a while
with your club and probably been in and out of
the team going back a few years. But he's really
consolidated his position and role I would have thought last
twelve months, and I thought he was terrific yesterday and
the depth of his kicking. He went back and obviously
(56:05):
took it upon himself to kick a long range goal
outside fifty, but he was a really dangerous forward for yesterday.
Speaker 7 (56:13):
Yeah, Max is someone that we're really pleased with. He's
sort of, like you say, he's sort of been in
and out of our senior team, but this is his
third year of senior footy. I think in twenty twenty
one he played a lot of the forward. Last year
he played a lot in the back line. So you know,
he's sort of seen probably played that thirty odd senior
games now where he's seen both ends of the field
(56:34):
and learned the game. And you know, we'll settle him
up forward now. He's got a really good set of
hands and aerobically he's probably underrated how well he can
run like him and James Its and hitting up at
the ball. I thought they both really performed their roles yesterday.
And yeah, like you say, Max took his opportunity to
hit the scoreboard. And yeah, the guys really like Max
(56:56):
and he can see them get around him after he
kicked that first goal. And he comes from pretty good stock,
so we know he's going to be a good player
for us this year.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
Trent Bormoer, the coach of Kimbra, is our guest on
the water Boys this morning. We saw Clarence have a
good win against louder Dale tight one at you Tas
Stadium last night too. Trend not so if you sure
saw any of that game the Northern Derby, but Phil
like rin for a really close competition this year in
twenty twenty three.
Speaker 7 (57:21):
Yeah, it looks looks like it which is really good.
So yeah, I had a look at the game last night,
obviously with a more eye on North Lone system because
they're our next opponent. But yeah, that was a great
game of State League footy. And yeah just as well,
like in regards to that game, congratulations for Jack Event
from our footay club for his two hundred games, Like
(57:43):
that's a massive achievement and he's been a great contributor
and a great servant not only the North Lonnie fully
club but the State league as a whole. So to
see anyone you have that sort of milestone is a
really impressive achievement. So so well done the DAP.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
As you mentioned, you got North Lonnie at the Twins.
Is that next Saturday to two o'clock? What did you
make of them last night? So you can never underestimate them,
can you?
Speaker 4 (58:05):
The Northern Bombers absolutely not.
Speaker 7 (58:08):
You know, they're they're a really good ball movement team,
especially early in the game. You know, they moved the
ball well through the corridor and give Brandon Leary attempt.
You know, he's super impressive. Brandon Leary. I think there
was a stage there last night where he might have
only had two kicks, but they were two goals if
you give him time and space. You know, he's probably
(58:29):
unlucky not to be on an AFL list, to be honest.
So you know we've got to put some time and
work into him. And yeah, they're experienced guys, are great players,
you know, Event Simpson, Alex Lee, those guys around the ball.
So it's going to be a good challenge for our midfield.
So yeah, it should be a pretty exciting game.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
Well mate, so we know you're one of the teams
to beat last season, you will be again in twenty
twenty three. Some a lot of hype about the Tigers
and rightly so you're doing a great job. Thanks very
much for joining us on the water Boys this morning,
and all the best against the Bombers next week.
Speaker 4 (59:00):
Cheer, Thank Gods, enjoy the rest of your Trent Bormola.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
They're joining us from the Kingbo Footy Club a great
start to their campaign yesterday with a big win against
North Hobart on the road. Lots more still to come
on the show this morning we're going to have a
look at the stall gift and get Brownie's top three
for that and also announced the next winner of our
good Sport of War that's still to come and for
you on the water Boys right across Tasbani out thanks
to Tasmack your local Kamata dealer.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
This here's the water Boys.
Speaker 4 (59:27):
Thanks to tas Mack, your local Comata dealer.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
It's the water Boys for your Saturday morning Easter Saturday
in fact for twenty twenty three.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
And doing the hard yards this week thanks to McDonald's.
It's time to announce the next winner.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
Of the water Boys Good Spider War.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
We do thank McDonald's in the quarter pound are a
classic for a reason. Available after ten thirty am. Our
winner of the good Sport Award wins one hundred dollars
to spend it into sport.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
Brannie Who is it this week?
Speaker 5 (59:49):
Isaiah Soldier is our winner this week of the good
Sport Award. Brent Isaiah sport is skateboarding. He's seven years
of age and he skates every day and he's following
his passion. So congratulation to Isaiah Solder, this week's winner
of the good Sport Award.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
Well don Isaiah, one hundred dollars suspended into sport for
you thanks to our great friends of McDonald's and McDelivery

medium big mac meal for free. And if you like
to dominate someone at for the good Sport Award, head
to the website of the state you're listening to us
on it all right now.
Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
And nominate them.
Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
It could be a player, a coach, or volunteer, anyone
that's doing a wonderful job in the local sporting community.
Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
Camp Now, Brett, we just better bring our listeners up
to speed with the golf because a play has been
suspended over augusta second round with the Masters. But at
the moment, brooks kepke your tip for the tournament. Currently
twelve under now he has played two rounds so he
wasn't obviously affected by play being suspended. But John Raham
from Spain, he's currently at nine under only through nine holes.
(01:00:49):
Sam Bennett, the amateur from the United States at eight under,
but Australia watch. We've got to go down to Jason
Day who's currently five under. He was able to get
through both his rounds today. Adam Scott is currently four under,
tied for tenth position. He's through ten holes, and you've
got to go down to Cameron Smith who's at two under.
(01:01:10):
He was my selection brent Ford the Masters. He's played
eight holes at the moment, so a busy day ahead
for the players. Tomorrow will be an early start over
there at Augusta.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
We talk about a big weekend of sport with Easter.
But Easter reminds me of one thing.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
That's a Stall gift which happens on Monday. Looking forward
to that.
Speaker 5 (01:01:28):
Now, you who's the guy you told me would win
it last year? I didn't get on.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
I can't remember it was now that long ago, Brownie,
twelve months ago.
Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
He tested my memory there.
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
But we've got a couple of tazzy boys in the
mix with Jacob Desbard and Jack Hale. So good luck
to those guys competing up at Stall on Monday. But yeah,
so much sport over Easter. I love it. It's a
good time of the year. What's on for your roaster, Brownie.
Speaker 5 (01:01:50):
I'm going to watch the Devil Star. I think they're
up against the Venue Goes. I watch them.
Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
He's got the number one draft pick, potentially play Young Regon.
Speaker 4 (01:01:59):
We could play, Is that right? Liking him the Dusty Martin,
aren't they?
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:02:04):
Well, yes, yeah, that's a that's a fair comparison. You
can play anywhere. He's an intercept mark, or you can
roll in the midfield. He can go forward and kick goals.
He's got the whole package. So they'll have to put
some time in him again. Webbilly and the Boys at
the Devil so this morning, yes, say both, best of
luck to the boys and the girls, and then I'll
probably watch the Dogs Richmond, probably definitely.
Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
I thought you probably definitely would not probably very good.
Speaker 5 (01:02:33):
With your Eagles top too. How many Eagles tops?
Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
Do you got a few in the closet?
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
H only bring him out special occasions like when I
see you. So yes, big weekend of sport coming up,
and we'll be back to the next weekend to look
back at all and see what's to come. As no
doubt about that, there's plenty going on.
Speaker 4 (01:02:51):
Thanks you conting me this morning. Have a great age
to everyone.
Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
We'll see you next Saturday morning for more fun and
provolity here on the water Boys
