Speaker 1 (00:00):
No matter what the spawn, where it's playing, all the
teams behind it, We've got it.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Thanks to Tasmac, Devin Ford, Montston, Bridgewater and Smifton, your
local Koboda dealer.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
Good morning everyone, Welcome to the water Boys.

Speaker 5 (00:16):
Great to have your company on this Saturday morning. And
sitting opposite me today, good look at him for the
next couple of hours, which disappoints me greatly.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Is the great I say that loosely. Blair Brown, Good morning, Blarry.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
How are yes?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Good morning Brean. Now I've been the last three days.
I've been with our co host Cameron Brown. We've been
on retreat on the East Coast and I've spent three
days with Cameron Brown. And that's enough.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Oh goodness to me. I won't ask what sort of
retreat it was. We'll leave that spiritual retreat very nice.
I like it.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Before we get into what's on the show today, let's
go through the overnight scores of one all draw in
the A League between Central Coast Mariners and the Wellington Phoenix.
How about the cricket blurry Because our Australian girls are
waiting in the final and who theyre going to play.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Oh, they're about to take on the host. South Africa
got over the top of England by six runs. So
the final on Monday coming up will be Australia versus
South Africa, which would be huge because Australia challenged in
that semi final by India. They just got across the
line which was a good run chase by India, but
Australia to win that one.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Brent, very nice here. They're untouchable our girls at the moment.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Speaking of untouchable, our girls are waiting to play the
WNCL final today at Blunstonarna as well, and looking forward
to chatting with the coach of the Tigers, Jude Carmen
in the first out of the show. James Moffatt will
also join us live from Simmons Planes. Big weekend of
racing with Race Tasmania up there and some basketball. We've
got Kayla Steinel joining us to the new Hobart Chargers signing.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Looking forward to chatting to Kayla.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Family affair there.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Brett absolutely Clinton of course the start with the jack
Jumbers and Kayla now suiting up with the Charges which
is really exciting. We're going to go the week.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
That was first off the top lay Larry Big Week
with Gil McLaughlin and town Pack Cummons. Of course our
thoughts with him because his mum is seriously not well,
which is which is really sad to hear. But we'll
talk about that in the first hour. But after that
in extra time, we've got the King of Tasmania joining us.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Looking forward to that, yes, Scottie Roth, Yes, it will
be in the building and having a chat in the building.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
Speaking of in the building though Nick Street, the Sports Minister,
will swing by.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
He's looking forward to this one well because of the
stadium news and I just want to have a chat
to Nick. Does he talk to his federal sports minister.
Just have a little one on one chat.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
We'll find out, won't we.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
Now you asked for some space in the show. You
wanted to bring a big gun on the show. He said,
I can get the new CEO of Collingwood, Craig Kelly
on the program. We've got a little bit jittery when
about you. Lunchtimes they still hadn't come.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Through, but you have at his start, will.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Into the phone. Craig Kelly will be fantastic because Collingwood
is coming to Lonceston next week, which will be huge.

Speaker 6 (02:58):
They are.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
Indeed, we want up the show with our good sport
of water and we're going to check in with Richard
Welsh had to run the bridge next week. I'm not
sure how I'm going to smash it all into two hours,
but we'll give it our best shot. We're back next
with the week that was here on the water Boys
do it all thanks to our friends at Tasmack, your
local Commuta dealer. Good morning, This is the water Boys,

(03:20):
thanks to the wonderful team at Tasmack, your local combuta dealer.
It is the water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brown.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Reflecting on sport from the past seven days. Here's the
water Boys week.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
It was always a big week when the AFL CEO
rolls into town, Blarry and he can a big week.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
For you, Brett. You pick him up at the airport.
This is true, us escord into whatever function he's going
to and then you just hang around until he's finished that.
And just for a little snippet, did you get a
couple of snippets out of him?

Speaker 4 (03:48):
I did? But he came here in gifts.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Didn't he a three hundred and sixty million dollar check?
But there's one caveat to that. We need to build
a stadium to get hold of it.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
So the stadium is still that message it is.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
And you know when we had Anthony Abernezi on the
show back about a month ago.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
He's sad fri ends of the show absolutely.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
So the AFL needs to do its bit well. As
far as I can see, the AFL's done.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
It's a bit now, very good point actually, so we'll
look forward to that because we'll cover off that very
soon later in the show.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
Nick Stread will join us the Sports Minister. We'll save
all our best stuff there. But let's go to cricket
because Pearl Pat comings so he came home. His mum
sounds like she's not not well at also our thoughts
with the Cummens family.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
He won't be going back for the third Test. The
Smith will take the captaincy.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
But that aside, je it was disappointing for Australia, wasn't
that second Test?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Well?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
The big difference is the Australian tale are waeful and
you look at India like Ravi Ashwin. That's number nine
for India. Bruno, he's got five Test hundreds. Okay, that's amazing,
it's really good. He can more than hold the bat,
and there are other Spiner Axel he got some runs
as well. But look at our tail. Cummins is okay.

(04:57):
First the things, he was two full in the second ings.
Murphy can't bat lines, not flash at all, and Konerman
can't bat either, so we've got a massive long tail.
That's why Cameron Green coming back is important.

Speaker 7 (05:10):
Hand.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
Yeah, absolutely, our tigers been they going just as well,
just extra team.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yes, yeah, one hundred and twenty in the second innings.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
What was about? Look at what Wa did on that wicket.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
They bad at all day and miles ahead of everyone
else in the ship. Chield Wa next week again over
there exactly. Bancroft got one hundred and seventy six not
out against this on that wicket, and then the whole
team for us we get one hundred and twenty. Amazingly
we slipped down the fifth. But the big thing is
we can still play finals because Wa is cleared out
and they will host the final and it's a race

(05:43):
to see who will play against them, and there are
a chance with those two games, as you said, Queensland
and then you've got Wa Wa.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
In Wa speaking of w A, Alex Piss as the
new captain of the Fremantle footy club, which is a
fantastic story. Easy decision would have been to give it
to Andrew bray Sure or someone like that, but obviously
Alex is very well respected amongst his peers and apparently
it was the unanimous decision to have him as captain,
which is awesome for Tassi footing.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
It says a lot about the character of Alex because
he's been injury prone, he's played eighty games, he's been
on the list for a long time, but that is great.
You get the sense he's a real general or he
is obviously in the back line, but now the whole team,
so that's fantastic.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
It is indeed Zach Merritt to announced the new essendent
captain during the week. And speaking of captains now, man
Eddie Hokinen has been shifted out of the Kooker Barrows
captaincy since twenty eight and he's had that job alongside
Aaron Zaluski. They're coming to Hobart next week. Could we
have left it too after they played in.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Hobart to do this exactly right? Just farewell in down
this captain in Hobart for these games. But he's done
his bit. He is not he's a player, but as
a captain, as you said, there's a long rain as captain.
I think it will ill fresh in him up. He
will be able to focus on his game and we've
seen that quite a bit with outstanding players been captain
just playing in the last few years, not leading the team.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
Of course, the Pro League on its way to hop
about the cook of bars and hockey rowers get here
today ahead of the big games next week. So I'll
have a lot of hockey on the show next week as.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Well, and so we had on the show two weeks ago.
She will debut for Australia's team, which is absolutely.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Huge, absolutely and just quickly two in the week.

Speaker 5 (07:16):
That was well done too, Aurora Symphony and its connections
winning back to back Lonzeston Cups during the week a
fine effort.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
It was too in a row there. Interesting he won
two Cola Cups as well, the col That Cup twice
into the Loney Cup twice.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
Well done, Well done Aurora Symphony. Yeah we've got a
big shower head, don't worry about that. Scott Roth, Nick Street,
Craig Kelly All joining us in extra time this morning.
But up next we're heading to Simmons Planes Race tasmani
a weekend. James Moffatt, a big name in Australian motorsport,
will join us on the show next. That's coming up
for you here on the water Boys thanks to Tasmack,

(07:54):
your local Koboda dealer. This is the water Boys, thanks
to Tasmac, your local Kabata dealer. It is the water
Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Browns's massive weekend of
racing up at Simmons Planes Blarry Race Tasmania is back
in the state.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
We can't wait for it. And one man that will.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Be there today racing up there in the midll of
Tasmania is James Moffatt, who's making the bold switch into
the national trans Am series for twenty twenty three.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
James, Welcome back to the water Boys. Make good have
you on?

Speaker 8 (08:24):
Yeah, thanks for having me on the show.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Good morning guys, great to have you mate.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
Tell us about this the switch you've made to the
trans Am series in twenty twenty three a difficult one
for you or an easy one?

Speaker 9 (08:34):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (08:34):
Look, it was a pretty easy decision decision when Garian
Barry Rogers came to me and said, look, we've got
an opportunity or opening up in the trans am class
for you with Nathan Hern He's decided to go to
the States this year. So what can I say? My
Stang body trans am car, big V eight in the

(08:54):
front where we all drifts. Didn't really take me too
long to say, yes, please sign me up.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, it sounds great, James, because I know you are
still in the forward Mustang. So how does that different
from your eight there? What are the actual difference is there?

Speaker 8 (09:09):
Well, the big difference is I think you're probably referring
to the Gen three supercars and the difference between the
trans am Probably the single biggest difference is that the
trans am car has left hand drive, a four speed
h Patten gearbox and who's he a cross by tire,
which really means the cars move around a bit more

(09:32):
on the tire. But you know, the affordability of the
racing is fantastic and because of the construction of the
tire it really produces really close to great racings. So
I'm really looking forward to the year ahead. It's a
great opportunity for me. We've got some fantastic partners on
board in Valveleen and LMCT plus, and the trans Am

(09:52):
series as a whole was really I think going from
strength to strength over the last couple of years. There's
some great young talent coming up through the ranks, and
there's some guys in there that have a bit of
an experience behind themselves. So I think that all mixed
together really produces some great racing.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Well it does. Now talking about great racing, I noticed
that you're first in practice in your Ford Mustang there
and so race one later today and then the two
races tomorrow.

Speaker 8 (10:18):
That's right. So, yeah, we had practice out there at
Simmons Planes yesterday in the GRM guys, they unloaded a
really fast car for us. Then we're able to be
quickest in both practice sessions. But anybody that knows a
little bit about racing those that we often it's always
nice to be fast in practice. It's today in qualifying
in the races where it counts. So we'll try and
put together all that good practice that we had yesterday

(10:40):
into qualifying today and hopefully be somewhere up the front
and give ourselves a decent shot at it today.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Yeah, we expect everyone in Tasmania to flock to Simmons Planes.
But if you do miss it, it's actually on nine
GM and stand Sport too channel. Yeah, from two to
five pm today. But the other one about you too,
James In You came second in twenty twenty one and
third last year with Camen Walters.

Speaker 8 (11:08):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
So are you going to keep going?

Speaker 3 (11:10):
You keep just racing Bathist as well.

Speaker 8 (11:12):
Yeah, we'll do that again. This year I signed again
to drive with Picksford Racing and drove alongside cam and
the Monster Energy Mustang. So we've come close to the last
couple of years up at Bathurst. You know, that's for again,
anybody that's in the motor racing, that's that's the big one.
That's the Grand Final, that's the big Daddy. So that's

(11:33):
the one we all chase, and particularly for somebody in
my position, it's you know, there's a burning desire there
to try and claim to win up there. So, like
I said, we've been close a couple of years, the
last couple of years, but hopefully we can put it
all together and have a few things go our way
and grab that Pray to Bock trophy because that would

(11:55):
certainly be a huge achievement, but as for now, fully
focused on the trans am stuff and really encourage anybody
that's listening or thinking that they might come out to
the racetrack today to do so. Weather up here in
law Tested is absolutely fantastic. I'm just enjoying a morning
walk as we speak actually, and some fantastic classes of

(12:20):
racing across the whole Shannon Speed Series, not only obviously
the trans am stuff, but you've got the S five
thousand open wheel of the eight race cars, they are
the fastest race cars in the country. And then also
the TCR Touring Car Racing Series, which is global sort
of hatchbatch series, which I've competed in the last few years,

(12:41):
so I know a little bit about that. So there
will be no shortage of action for people to watch.
But like you guys mentioned, if you're not able to
get out there to the circuit to Simmons Planes, you
can watch all the action on nine GM or Sandsports.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Fantastic stuff.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
James Moffatts our guests on the water Boys this morning, James.
Before that game, my co host here, Blair Brownless has
lived off his brother's name for a while. I'm not
sure if he rules fan, but Billy Brownis is his brother, and.

Speaker 8 (13:09):
Obviously I know the name.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Well, he's lived off his brother's name his whole life.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
I'm not saying you've lived off your old man's name this,
I'm not saying James leave off his old man's name.
But what's it like living in the shadow made of
of your your dad, who's an absolute legend of the sport.

Speaker 8 (13:28):
Well, I guess maybe there way that I can put
it to people out there that might be listening, because
I don't really know any different. I don't have to dads.
That's a very good question, first way to describe it.
But I guess we've got a bit of time. I
guess the funny, short little story is a lot of

(13:48):
people would naturally expect that I got into racing because
of my my father's experts in the sport. But my
uncle actually raced as well.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
Yep.

Speaker 8 (13:58):
My mum's sisters husband and he raced quite completed competitively
in the early nineties in a category called former four BT,
a open wheel of race cars. And I was actually
more at the racetrack as a young fellow with him
when he was racing, So I kind of have always
thought that even if it hadn't been for my dad's
involvement in the sport, it probably would have been my

(14:19):
uncle who had got me hooked on it.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Anyway, there you go, well, there you go. That's that's
a cool story. Actually assume that wasn't James. Awesome to
have you on, mate, and all the very best this
weekend race tasmoney. Of course you can find more information
race Tasmania dot com dot au. Tickets are available at
the gate as well, but cart only know cash sales
at the gate. But get along and see some great
racing at sevens Planes this weekend. James mother, good luck mate,

(14:43):
thanks having jumping on the show with us.

Speaker 8 (14:44):
That's it, boys, thank you very much.

Speaker 7 (14:46):
Have a great one, are.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
You too, mate?

Speaker 5 (14:47):
James off at there joining us on the water boys,
what a star he is. Great to have his company
with us this morning. We've got plenty more still to
come this now. I'm not too far away is Kayla
Steinel from the Hobart charges. But up next big day
for our TASMANI and Tigers women's team. They're in the
WNCL final and their coach Jude Coleman joins us after
the break doing it all thanks to Tasmack, your local
Kabata dealer.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
It's the water Boys.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
This here's the water Boys.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
Thanks to our great partners at Tasmac, your local Kabata dealer.
It is the water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brown.
This morning, It's the water Boys. Cricket report, massive, massive
day coming up at Blunston Arena as our Tasmany and
Tiger's women's team prepared to try and go back to
back in the w NCL and joining us on the
line now to preview the big clash against South Australia.

(15:32):
Here's the Tigers coach Duke Colemen, Welcome back to the
water Boys.

Speaker 10 (15:35):
Jude, thank you for having me.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Great to have you on on such a big day.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Thanks for your time, especially on game day and nice
and early in the morning. How are you feeling heading
and you must go in with an enormous amount of confidence.
Ten wins out of the last twelve games. You beat
South Australia twice at home earlier this month.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
What could possibly go wrong today?

Speaker 6 (15:53):
Jude?

Speaker 7 (15:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (15:56):
Hopefully hopefully nothing.

Speaker 8 (15:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (15:58):
We're pretty pumped with We've had a really good season
so far and we're just really excited to be playing
playing the final at home.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Yeah, as you should be, dude, because that confidential top
of the table, as Breno said, undefeated at home and
the last three games actually against South Australia, you've beaten
them all three times.

Speaker 10 (16:18):
Yeah, we've got a good, good record, very good record
against them. We've played probably close to our best cricket
against them. But they're a great team and finals the
whole nother story.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yes, you must have waken up well, you knew it
was going to be hot because it was hot yesterday.
It's forecast a hot day today, so it'll be fantastic
there at Blunton Arena. But your bat is going with
good form Alisa Vilani one hundred and seventy four not
out in that last game. That must have been absolutely
superb to wats that knock.

Speaker 10 (16:51):
Yeah, it was pretty special. I've seen it before from
an opposition point of view. Certainly Jordan's sitting in as
her her coach and sitting in her.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Dugout and Nicola Carey she actually missed the game last year,
didn't she strange Judies. But she's averaging sixty eight with
the bat. She'll be very determined to go big today.

Speaker 10 (17:18):
It's been great having Nick back as part of the team.
She's she's enjoying it as well and playing a key
role for us in that top order.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
And who's the other big guns that the players our
fans should look out for today.

Speaker 10 (17:32):
You've spoken about our batting line up. Was Elle Lee's
done a great job all season, yes, and but I
think our bowl is a other one who we really
rely on. At Blunston. It's known to be a bit
of a batters wicket, but our bowlers have done a
great job. We tend to have a very heavy attack

(17:53):
and we look to attack the stumps as much as
possible and they've done a really great job to restrict
teams on this great batting wicket, so we'll be looking
to them again today. The lots of Molly Straano and
Sarah Cooit and then our spinners maybe Gibson, Amy Smith
and Sash Maloney through the middle. So yeah, we've got

(18:15):
a good bowl in the lineup. I haven't even mentioned
Nick Carey and our young young left armor at the top,
so we'll be relying on them today to keep the
opposition to a reasonably low total.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
Absolutely, jud Cohen, the Tasmanian Tigers WNCL coach. He's our
guest on the water Boys this morning. How about the opposition,
Jared we said had a couple of wins against South
Australia recently. But from a Tasmanian perspective, our own Courtney
Webb got the WNCL Player of the Tournament yesterday. She's
had a stunning season with the bat. How do you
stop her today?

Speaker 10 (18:47):
Yeah, she has had a great season. She had a
really good season last year as well. She's a meticulous
trainer and worked really hard. So we've got our plans
for they don't we changed much from the last couple
of times we've played her, and she's the quality quality
bat you need to be on top of your game
when you bowlder someone like her, So we'll just be

(19:10):
looking to to try and get her stuck on the
crease as much as possible and hopefully bowlder LB.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Actually I've spoken a little bit before about the weather.
It is going to be hot, but there is some
rain predicted a little bit later, isn't there today?

Speaker 10 (19:30):
Yes, I've heard that maybe a storm of some kind.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
There be a batting storm or a bowling storm.

Speaker 11 (19:38):
From our guys, Yeah, the one thing with with cricket,
you just never know what the weather's going to bring.

Speaker 10 (19:49):
Up for We'll be we'll be trying to talk as
much as possible and make sure that we're switched on
and know what's happening in the game if there is
a and we'll see what happens, to see what the
weather gods have for us.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Fantastic Joe.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Well, you've got the chance to go back to back today,
which I think only one or two teams have done
in the past. It's a mighty situation to be and
you've slotted in seamlessly since you've come on Boarders coach
halfway through the season.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
We're sure the very best today with the Tigers. And
thanks so much for joining us on the water Boys
this morning.

Speaker 10 (20:21):
Thanks for having me and happy I see some of
your listeners out at the game today.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
Absolutely yeah, two five start get along and have a
look at this wonderful team. They have done a great
job this season. There's no doubt about that last couple
of seasons. In fact, they are a formidable lineup and
without putting the moss on them, Blair, I can't see
him anyone get in the room.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Well, we went through the batting lineup and then the
bowling lineup as well. I think, yeah they are. Let's
be honest, we're our red hot favorites.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
Yeah, this final, absolutely no doubt about that.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
All right, speaking of red hot, the whole Bart Chargers
have got a red hot signing in the basketball. She
joins us. Next, I speak of Kayla Steinl.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
That's after this.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
Yere on the water Boys right across Tasbania. Thanks to
tas Mak your local Koboda dealer. This is the water Boys,
thanks to tas Back your local Kommota dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
This morning, it's time.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
To shoot some hoops as the water Boys talk.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
All things basketball.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Some really exciting news for the Hobart Chargers was announced
yesterday following the signing of star player Kayla Steinel. After
being taken with pick nineteen in the twenty twelve w
NBA draft, Kayla has gone on to have a hugely
successful w NBL and NBO one career. And if Kayla's
name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because she's married

(21:35):
to Tasmani. At Jack Jumpers captain Clint Steindel lucky enough
to catch up with Kayla yesterday following the announcement and
started out by asking her if she was pleased to
be with the Chargers.

Speaker 12 (21:47):
I've been anxious, anxiously waiting to play and get my
chance to have a run around again.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
So yeah, very excited.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
You said you haven't played since September twenty one. Do
you sort of get around and have a run around
still and train a bit or do you sort of
put that away with trying to start any family.

Speaker 12 (22:02):
Yeah, look, I haven't played an organized game by any
means since that last game in twenty twenty one, so yeah,
I think I've shot around before jack jobs training before,
but yeah, nothing serious by any means. So yeah, picked
it up about five weeks ago, started a preseason.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
So yeah, I haven't lost it.

Speaker 12 (22:23):
Definitely lost the fitness, and then I think I had
beginner's luck back shooting, but no, it's yeah, it feels
natural to be back on court and yeah, definitely not
as as difficult as I thought it was going to be.
So that's very nice.

Speaker 5 (22:38):
For those that haven't sewn you apply, tell us about
what sort of play you are.

Speaker 12 (22:43):
A finesse player, a big player, that likes to shoot
the ball more than I probably should from the outside. Yeah,
I enjoy a fast paced game, like to get out inside,
outside and shoot the three. Yeah, few post moves, not
a whole lot, but no, I definitely enjoy shooting the basketball.
So yeah, that's what I like to think.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
I'm good at.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
As you say, you're probably one the more experienced plies
and the time do you feel that pressure to before?
I guess when you're the later out there. I guess
when there's a young.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
Group of light.

Speaker 12 (23:14):
There's no pressure from the outside. I wouldn't say, but
just sort of knowing, you know what I'm sort of
capable of, I suppose would be. Yeah, pressure from just
myself really. Yeah, but I've been pleasantly surprised with how
I've reacted to getting back on court. So yeah, I'm
just trying not to let there be any pressure and

(23:36):
just enjoy it while I can.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
Calasnos, I guess on the water boys, Hey, enjoying high Bart.
You've been here for a couple of years now with
your husband cleaned. Of course you enjoy it here and
you're looking to settle here.

Speaker 12 (23:46):
Yeah, yeah, we're really enjoying Hobart it's a lot like
where I'm from back in the States, so it's nice
to be in mountains again and big trees and things
that I definitely took for granted growing up. So yeah, look,
we love being being in Hobart and getting outside, getting
up Mount Wellington, which I'd like to do a bit
more of. But yeah, obviously the reason we moved here

(24:06):
was for the jack Jumpers and that's been you know,
awesome for us off and on the court. So yeah,
very happy to be here for another couple of years.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
I guess if you're playing, it means Clint's not over
the offic season unless he's going to sign up with
the Men's Steam. We haven't heard about that yet, but
nice role reversal. I guess he gets to watch you
for a change.

Speaker 12 (24:24):
Yeah, that's right, so that that doesn't happen very often.
So now he's completely happy to just play dad over
the off season so that I get a chance to
play and not be just mom. So yeah, Clint's very
supportive of me getting back on the court, and he
probably wanted me to get back more so than I did,
so yeah, he's great for.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
Support with that, and we saw in New Zealand last
week Clint giving his shoes to the young fan over there.
That was a little bit emotional after the loss. A
lovely gesture that's gone around the world. And you alerted
me to the vision the other day. It's pretty exciting,
is it when you say that sort.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
Of thing happened. Yeah.

Speaker 12 (24:59):
Yeah, so you know, we'd obviously seen it here on
the local news when it happened and on social media.
But yeah, I actually got a Facebook notification from somebody
back home that had watched the morning news and I
happened to be up really early that morning, thank you children,
And yeah, so I've got notified at probably five am that, yeah,

(25:20):
Clint's face was on NBC today, and yeah, which is
it's it's just funny that it's Clint that's getting that
exposure because that's not what he's all about, you know,
he's a quite quiet, humble man. So yeah, look, it's great,
you know, for everybody involved, obviously.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
So yeah, and Jack Jump is MVP tomorrow or not?

Speaker 4 (25:44):
Who's your your tip for that?

Speaker 5 (25:45):
I'm sure you'll be there in the crowd somewhere.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Watching on who do you like?

Speaker 12 (25:49):
Yes, yes, we'll be there. Look, I know who my
kids or my kids. I know, who know. I would
say it would be his MVP, but I.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Hope that's dad.

Speaker 12 (25:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, well mom's not.

Speaker 8 (26:02):
Oh.

Speaker 12 (26:02):
Look, I really enjoy the way Jack mcvae plays. I
really like the way Kenny plays. But I think if
you're looking for an all around MVP, it's definitely got
to be Milton Doyle.

Speaker 6 (26:14):
Very good.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
We'll enjoy the MVP awards, Kaylor. We can't wait to
see it out here with the charges. Thanks for having
a chat to us on the water Boys cheers.

Speaker 12 (26:19):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Great interview there with Kayla stein or Brent and the
MVP for the jack Jumpers tonight you're hosting it. Who wins?

Speaker 5 (26:28):
Well, I reckon it's pretty hard to go past Milton Door,
wasn't it. He's had a pretty unbelievable season. So I
think it'd be him, but you never know with these things.
And a man that will know and probably voted on
it is Scott Roight who joins us in the next hour,
so we might try and prize a bit of information
out of the jack Jumpers coach. Also nixt Jot the
sports minister joining us in the studio, looking forward to

(26:50):
that and talking about Gila mcglocklin's visit to.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
My begin to Craig Kelly, the new Collingwood CEO.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
We afford to that one. I hope he answers the phone.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Never let we get it together at Collingwood where two
ex Collingwood players.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
He may not remember me and he does he would?
He would do you ask?

Speaker 6 (27:09):
I know you?

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Of course I will.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
And Richard Welsh will join us briefly to to have
a long it run the bridge next week. And that's
all now it's two of the water Boys stick around
for extra time.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
Massive first out of the show.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
But we've got some big name guests joining us here
in extra time.

Speaker 8 (27:28):
B B.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
Before we get to that, let's go to the overnight
scores in the A League Central Coast and Wellington and
one all draw it up in the cricket please well.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
The Women's twenty twenty World Cup South Africa are into
the final that take on our very own Australian scene
because they South Africa beat England by six runs.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
Very nice. How's this for a big name wine up
for our number two this morning?

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Scott Roth Jack Jumpers coach, Nick Street, Minister for Sport
Craig Kelly. Collingwood Footy Club CEO Richard Well I was
about to say this and on the side of all
that as a bit of an afterthought, is fair to say,
is Richie Welsh for Runther.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Now looking forward to it, Brenda.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
That's all I thought we'd bring down a couple of pigs.
That's all coming up for you.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
Thanks to Tasmack, your local Kimoto dealer, you are locked
to the water Boys in this Saturday morning, February twenty fifth,
twenty twenty three.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
This here's the water Boys.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Thanks to our friends at Tasmack, your local Kombota dealer.
It is the water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless.
This morning we're continuing the basketball talking in the start
of our two Jesus Yes, the jack Jumpers campaign has
come to a close for NBL twenty three, of course,
going down to the New Zealand Breakers across the Ditch

(28:44):
last weekend. So to review the season we go to
one man friend of the show, Scott Roth. Welcome back
to the water Boys, Coach, here you going this morning.

Speaker 9 (28:52):
I'm great appreciate to be with you guys.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
Lovely to have you on now.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
I guess you've had a few days to digest and
look back at the season and how you feeling as
you wake out this Saturday morning.

Speaker 7 (29:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (29:03):
Good.

Speaker 9 (29:03):
You know, we just uh uh yesterday finished up all
of our exit meetings and uh, you know, we have
guys that are heading over to Europe. We have guys
that are obviously getting ready to go back to the
United States. And tonight it'll be a big night and
fun night to celebrate the season with the mvp'd in
our my state bank.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
And so.

Speaker 9 (29:22):
Yeah, it's been exciting and uh, you know, just tying
up some loose ends and then we'll start to refocus
on the NBL free agency and kind of be on
the normal pace of what we need to get done
and not be as rushed as we were last year
with the season, you know, being pushed back for so
long and trying to get things flipped around very quickly
to start.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
This season here bad exit interviews a lot. What does
that entile?

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (29:45):
Is it talking about contracts and software? Is it more
about reviewing the season and how that particular play I went.

Speaker 9 (29:50):
It's actually not so much even about either one of
those two things. It's more about internally what we can
do better. It goes from we'll have a physical and
conditioning eggsit meeting, uh, and then they'll move from there
over to the front office, which our tuebers and and
have a meeting about you know, our our day to

(30:11):
day stuff that we do outside of basketball and and
how the appearances and those kinds of things can be
tidied up and what they can do better from the
front office perspective. And then we're basically just doing the
same thing, reviewing our daily schedule on seeing if there's
things that we can tweak that make better, or what
the players like or don't like, and how we travel
and some of those things that we can control. And

(30:33):
and then obviously we do talk about the season and
and things that will make us better and their thoughts
on the on the course of the season. And so
it's just more of a review and trying to get
an honest answer from from the players to make sure
that one they feel included to we've heard their voice.
But more importantly, how how can we help each other

(30:53):
make changes? And I said last year, you know, we
went through this process and we made a lot of changes.
This is aren't seen because it's behind the scenes and
things that are happening to try to improve the quality
of being here and make sure we're as professional as possible.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
Absolutely said to you in the press conference. Yeah, the
die in New Zealand that it's a sad toime here.
I guess basketball is a businesses as you lot to say,
but this is the last time. This time we compay
it together as it is now because there's always changes
at the end of essays and not surprising and you
obviously spend so much time with these gud Is it
sad that the same tom as being a business for you?

Speaker 9 (31:29):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I've been doing this for
so long, and there's there's two things that I truly well,
there are two or three things I truly truly hate.
And one is, you know, when the season ends, guys
just disappear right away, and rightfully so I was a
player and you want to get back to your families
or back home or rest, and so it's kind of
very quick and sudden. And the other things are when
you have to cut players, now, that's a horrendous thing

(31:50):
to be doing as a coach. And then you know,
we have to go back to the third thing, which
is trying to resign players or releasing players that you
have to make. These decisions on those processes are very
difficult because you get quite attached to the players. It'd
be different if players were jerks and you didn't like
them and you just want to move away from them
or not to see him again. But the guys we

(32:11):
have are just tremendous people, and you know, it's just
it's hard to get away from them and be apart
from them. But you know, it is the nature of
the beast.

Speaker 6 (32:20):
It is.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Indeed, Now Scott, our next case is a sportsman's nick
straight and we're about to asking about the extra courts
going in there at my State Bank Arena, and probably
the one that interests you a lot is the high
performance center that's about to be built out there.

Speaker 6 (32:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (32:37):
I mean, obviously that's been in the docket for a
part of the process of us getting the team here
and Larry Casseman coming forward and trying to get this
high performance building built. I think it'll be a great
thing if it can get done, and it'll be one
more thing that you can attract players to and why
they want to come to Tasmania. But I think really

(32:58):
the big thing for me is then I'll start, you know,
after this weekend, the next six weekends, I'll be up
north every weekend trying to just continue to build his
brand and spread the news about basketball, and the more
coach we can get, the more facilities who can get,
the more kids we get. Playing is going to be
a hugely important thing. And it seems like there's a

(33:19):
lot of kids with a lot of basketballs in our hands,
but not a lot of places to play. And I
hope that maybeus being out in about and being up
in the North these next five to six weekends will
continue to resonate the game and the things that we've
built on.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
And tonight it's a big not with the MVP and
very I here, Brent Costello will be in seeing their events.
And we think that Milton Doyle is the red hot
favorite now Scott that you probably won't give us a
winner because they're such all great players, but he must
be a red hot favrate, let's be honest.

Speaker 9 (33:53):
Yeah, I mean, obviously Milts has been fantastic where we've
been in you know, contract negotiations with him for the
last four to six weeks, and we're hoping, you know,
we get some positive news at some point or another,
but you know, you kind of go down the same
road every year when when players in the NBA have
a really good season, it's hard to keep them because
just the market is out there and our market is

(34:16):
financially only capped at a certain area where these guys
can make money. And and we'll do everything we can
to try to keep him, and we've been in talks
with him, and his family's loved it here, and I
know Milts loved it here. But ultimately, as a professional athlete,
you only have X amount of years to really be playing,
and sometimes money is the thing that is the changing force.
And so we're trying to put our best foot forward

(34:37):
with him. And he's had a tremendous year and I
think the fans have really enjoyed watching him play, and
deservedly so.

Speaker 6 (34:43):
He's our first.

Speaker 9 (34:44):
Player in the history of the Jack Jumpers to be
first team MBL. And I've said it many times that
the playing has been great, but the person has been
just wonderful to be around and really a great fit
for us.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
Absolutely, he Scott Roth is the the jack job. As
he joined us on the shot this morning. You mentioned
some Impliers heading out over says Cuts. I think Milt's
going to Turkey, Will's going to Spine and Jack mcviial
I think has even gone to Germany. I know you're
talking about the basketball gods a lot, but do you
sit with one or open on this during the off season.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
I'm not sure the boys tight get hurt or do
anything silly over there.

Speaker 9 (35:17):
Well, I definitely have my fingers crossed, But I think
it's really not so much for Milk but for for
Jack and Magne and just basically our team. To have
that kind of attention around the world, that you know,
teams are watching these guys and that the quality of
the play is good enough for them to leave here
to go over there for a few months and plays
is a great credit to my coaching staff and just

(35:40):
our team of what it's been able to do in
the last two years. But I think for those two
guys in particular, it's going to be a great experience
of just kind of getting out of their element and
being uncomfortable and being around a different situation and a
different kind of level of competition, and hopefully their growth
and those kind of areas we'll expand and they'll come

(36:02):
back even.

Speaker 5 (36:02):
Better before you, guys, what are you looking forward to
my side of the off seats and smiking as many
cigars as you luck we don't having to get on
a quantus p line and the site lottery that you Yeah,
that's the.

Speaker 9 (36:13):
Thing I'm avoiding is quantious.

Speaker 8 (36:17):
But I'll get to them.

Speaker 9 (36:18):
I'll get to them and they when I have to
go home. My wife's going home on Tuesday.

Speaker 7 (36:21):
I'll go home in May.

Speaker 9 (36:23):
What I'm looking forward to, be honest with you, is
just to get out and about. To me, it's a
NonStop thing that to build this brand, and that's what
I've been in charge to do and and to make
sure the state is being connected. And that's why the
next five to six weekends I'll be from long sessling
up and just traveling everywhere I possibly can uh to
meet and greet and see young kids playing in their
games and their teams, and and meet families and and

(36:46):
make sure that we're growing, growing the game and growing
the Jack Jumper brand. And I'm really looking forward to
getting out and just you know, I really do enjoy
the drives up there and just the time of way
of being myself and reflecting and and being up in
those areas and I'm looking forward to that.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Are you doing a mighty job of it too, mate?

Speaker 5 (37:05):
We love your work and thanks so much for joining
us early on a Saturday morning and enjoy tonight.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
I was going to say we can let our hair down,
but I can't, but you absolutely can. You got the
beautiful hair of course.

Speaker 9 (37:16):
So look well, if we had a better MD, I
would really enjoy myself.

Speaker 6 (37:21):
I'm going to fight.

Speaker 9 (37:22):
I'm going to fight myself through the continue the one
to talk.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Yeah, good, come very well, said Scott. Appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
I'll do my best to punch through it. So they
have to look very exciting for you, Brent.

Speaker 5 (37:35):
Thanks Scott, Scott Roth joining us on the water Boys
this morning.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
Want to start?

Speaker 5 (37:38):
He is, and I can't wait to have the Jackie's
back next year for NBO twenty four. Hey, we've got
a big show. And up next we go to the
Collingwood Footy Clubs. New CEO Craig Kelly Blair set this
one up. Hopefully answers just find a huge that's next
year on the water Boys right across Tasmania thanks to
tas Back your.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
Local Commota dealer.

Speaker 5 (37:57):
This is the water Boys thanks to Tasmack you're local
Kiboda dealer. It's the water Boys with Brent Costello and
Blair Brownless for you Saturday morning. And we've got some
royalty in the studio of Tasmanian Royalty here Blair the
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nick Street, welcome back to
the show.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
Minister.

Speaker 13 (38:15):
What a step down that is for Tasmania Royalty. Just
trying to pump you up. Yeah, now, look, I appreciate it,
but let's be realistic about this.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
Well, big week AFL ruled.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
He was in town this week with Gillan McLaughlin strolling
into town. We had the luncheon down there, the Tourism
Industry Council put on a great lunch at p W one.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
What have you made of the trip down?

Speaker 5 (38:38):
Obviously came down bearing gifts with an asterisk next to it.
Of course we've got to unlock the stadium to get
that three hundred and sixty million dollars.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
But a good announcement from your point of view, was it?

Speaker 13 (38:47):
Look, it was a good announcement from my point of
view as the Sport and rec Minister, because a lot
of that three hundred and sixty millions talking about game development,
which is exactly what we need to be talking about
for football in Tasmania. You know, we talk about the
elite level, and we talk about the stadium and we
talk about the team. What gets forgotten in all of
this is the grassroots level of football and the struggle
that it's going through at the minute. And for me,

(39:10):
one of the biggest benefits of getting a team down
here is that we know that it will drive participation,
particularly in kids. You can see what the Jack Jumpers
have done for basketball in two seasons. I'm absolutely confident
that an AFL team can do that as well. So
to see the commitment of money that we made at
the grassroots level is really important to me.

Speaker 5 (39:31):
We had the Prime Minister on the show about a
month ago and he said that AAFL needs to do
its bit for this and obviously he's reviewing the business
case in the mac point at the moment.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
Do you think this is what the Prime Minister was
talking about.

Speaker 13 (39:42):
I think this is exactly what the Prime Minister was
talking about. And I think that gills open ended commitment
as well in terms of their financial commitment at Tasmania.
It was what the Prime Minister was probably looking for
as well.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Nick. Now just on that. So with the conversations with
the Prime Minister, Jeremy said, he says, look, I'll take
care of that one. But if you had to chat
to the Federal Sports Minister, Anika Wells after she made
a few comments that the stadium probably wasn't was a
big ask.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Yeah, no, Look, I haven't spoken to Anika.

Speaker 13 (40:13):
All of these negotiations with the federal government have been
happening at the premiers level and that's what is appropriate
at this stage. My office, my department are providing all
the information that the Premier needs to inform those conversations,
and it's far easy to make sure that there aren't
mixed messages from both ends. Really for the negotiations to

(40:34):
be happening through the Prime Minister's office and the Premier's office.

Speaker 3 (40:36):
Yeah, I don't think there's any mixed messages from you
and Jeremy. We both both pro stadium. But just breaking
down the funding commitment from the IFL, like we're always
talking about three round and sixty million, community football game
development are ninety million, which would be absolutely huge, but
also their talent academies. The announcement that they'll be set
up in the south, north and Northwest. Thirty million dollars

(40:58):
directed that way.

Speaker 13 (40:59):
Really important commitment, not something that we'd heard about before
this week, I don't think, and important because a obviously
game development and athlete development is important, but also because
it's statewide as well. And at every step of the
way we've tried to we've tried to reassure people in
the north and Northwest that the build of the stadium

(41:20):
in Hobart isn't about bringing all of the content to Hobart.
It's we want this team to succeed on a statewide level,
and quite frankly, the only way to will succeed is
if it's successful on a statewide level. And again, without
wanting to harp on the jack Jumpers, you've seen the
statewide success and support for that club, and that's why
it's been successful.

Speaker 4 (41:39):
It's united the island exactly right.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
I think that was very important to get the statewide
coverage there for the tallann Codemies and also the whole
When we had the Prime Minister and he talked about
this urban development and what does that look like for
you around the stadium around mac Point, what do you
think that would actually look like.

Speaker 13 (41:58):
Look, we've been really constant in saying this isn't just
an AFL football stadium, it's an arts and entertainment precinct.
That means that the stadium needs to be used for
more sports than just AFL, but it needs to be
used for concerts, It needs to be used for conferences
as well. One of the things that doesn't get talked
about enough is the lack of facilities for business conferences

(42:19):
in Hobart. In particular, Don Baker, who's the CEO of
Cricket tas but also the chair of Business Events Tasmania,
was on the radio yesterday morning made the point that
we only get access to about fifty percent of the
entire business events market because we're constricted with conference facilities
in Hobarts. That precinct needs to take care of that
as well, give us access to the other four billion

(42:40):
dollars worth of business events that are available into Australia
each year. But in terms of urban development as well,
it's about unlocking that Northern Corridor. We've been for a
tour of the corridor with state growth officials who've explained
what they want to do in terms of maximizing that corridor,
opening land out there for social and afordable housing all

(43:00):
the way out to Glenorchy and beyond. It's about opening
up the ferry services both across the river to have
more ferry services to bell Rope, but also to other
parts of the Eastern Shore, but also potentially down the river.
You know, the possibilities from developing Mack Point are endless.
And it's not just about an AFL stadium. We keep

(43:21):
saying that, but it's really important that people understanding is
not just about building something for the AFL.

Speaker 5 (43:25):
Minister for Sport is Nick Street and he's in the
studio whether this morning. Obviously people are concerned about the
spend and you know, saying it should be into homelessness
and health, et cetera. And I completely understand that point,
and I'm sure you and the Premier do as well.
But do you think people will forget sometimes that you
need to spend money to make money. When we came

(43:46):
into government in twenty four teen, Brent, the spending on
health was twenty eight percent of the budget. It'll be
thirty three percent. It was thirty three percent in the
last year's budget, could potentially be more than that in
this year's budget. If we don't keep growing the economy,
how long is it going to be before the health
spends forty percent of the budget fifty percent of the budget.
How long before all we spend money on is health.

(44:08):
So we understand that there are pressures on the health system.
But the Premier makes the.

Speaker 13 (44:13):
Point and he's the Health minister as well, so he's
well placed to talk about this. Our contribution to the
stadium or to the precinct more importantly, equates to about
fifty one days of health spend. That means every fifty
one days in Tasmania we are spending the equivalent of
the stadium contribution in our health system. So we understand

(44:33):
that there are pressures on the health system. We're not
trying to minimize the pressures that are on the health system,
but we have to invest in other areas of our
economy as well to grow the pie so that we
can fund essential services like health, education and homelessness.

Speaker 5 (44:47):
Kil mcgoughlin said the other day he doesn't expect an
announcement from the FEDS to the May budget.

Speaker 4 (44:52):
Are you in the same mind as that?

Speaker 13 (44:54):
Look, every indication that the Prime Minister is given to
the Premier I think is that they're considering it as
part of the May budget process at this stage.

Speaker 5 (45:00):
And I want to ask you about the four court
facility at my State Bank Arena, the proposed facility out there.
Where is that app place, because obviously you talk about
the jack jumper success, etc. That's a double edged sword
though in some ways because the participation numbers are through
the route, but these kids have got nowhere to plant them.

Speaker 13 (45:16):
It is, and it's something that we're continually working on.
We're not just working on building new facilities, but making
access to the current facilities better, including the facilities in
schools potentially as well as something that we're working on
with the Department of Education and the Minister for Education
in terms of the facility. At Wilkinson's point, that commitment
was made in twenty eighteen, so it's obviously disappointing that

(45:36):
we haven't even broken ground on that yet. But the
commitment was made before the jack jumpers were even a notion.
What's occurred since obviously participation numbers have exploded with the
jack jumpers, but also the jack jumpers need a high
performance training facility and the decision was made to co
locate that with the proposed facility. At Wilkinson's point, what

(45:58):
that means is that it's delayed the start of it.
But what we absolutely are aiming for is that the
high performance facility becomes part of the community facility as well,
and so that when the jack jumpers aren't using it,
and let's face at, professional athletes train from nine to five,
which is when kids are in school anyway, what we
want is for the two courts that are potentially going
to be part of the High Performance fseral facility to

(46:20):
become part of a six court facility, four community So
there'll still be the four community courts that we were
talking about, but will also get access to those two
courts that the jack jumpers use as part of the
high performance facility.

Speaker 4 (46:31):
Just on that.

Speaker 5 (46:32):
Why can't you check a couple of million bucks at
moon of Sports Center. It's an aging facility. My young
fellows playing out there last year, they're playing down one end,
someone's up the other end wiping the four down because
it's tripping on the floor.

Speaker 4 (46:41):
What's stopping you doing that? Nothing?

Speaker 13 (46:44):
And it's something that we're actively looking at. We're working
with the organization that runs both the Clarence and the
Moona facilities on what we can spend on those facilities
to keep them online. They're obviously aging facilities. They were
built by the federal government back in the late sixties,
I believe. Obviously the end goal is to replace those
facilities and get new facilities in Muna and Clarence to
go with the facility at Wilkinson's point. But we're working actively,

(47:08):
working with the NSFRA to work out what we need
to spend to keep those facilities not just online, but
actually usable so that our dad don't have leaks and
what have you.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Like you're dealing with out there at the minute.

Speaker 4 (47:22):
Very nice anything else from you.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
Blair before, Because there was a proposed basketball facility out
of Gilston Bay there at the high School, which looked magnificent.
Once they do, you're going to build ten courts out there,
is that on the back burner?

Speaker 13 (47:34):
Look, it's not when I say on the back burner, no,
because the facility you're talking about Gilston Bay was the
proposed replacement for the Clarence facility behind the Clarence Pool,
And so we're still looking at new facilities for the
Eastern Shore as well, whether that be at Gilston Bay
or in another location that we're ground with Clarence Council
where we're actively looking at new facilities there and in

(47:55):
the northern suburbs as.

Speaker 3 (47:56):
Well, and there's issues for basketball courts in Loncessen as well.

Speaker 13 (48:00):
See, so we've got we've got plans for a northern
hub out at Mobray that are currently being scoped. And
the end result of the redevelopment at UTAs Stadium as
well is our sixty five million dollars into York Park
the ground, sixty five million from the feeds, which doesn't
get talked about.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
Enough as well.

Speaker 13 (48:19):
When we talk about the two hundred and forty for
mac Point, we're also talking about sixty five for York
Park to bring that up to standard. And then we're
looking at another seventy million dollars for an indoor facility
at the back of York Park as well to finish
off that UTAs precinct as well. The idea with that
is to build something that would be capable of hosting
jack jumpers games going forward as well, because the Silver

(48:40):
Dames not not at the standard that the Mball wants either.

Speaker 4 (48:44):
Very nice Minisota, thanks for coming in especially on a weekend.
Nice and early too.

Speaker 5 (48:48):
We appreciate that. Have a nice weekend and great to
catch up. Appreciate you time.

Speaker 4 (48:53):
Thanks past.

Speaker 5 (48:53):
That's Nick Straight, the Minister of a sport, joining us
in the studio on the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
Plenty more still to cam Richard.

Speaker 5 (48:58):
Welsh isn't too far away from running Bridge, but up
next hopefully This man who answered the phone, Blair Brownless,
is teed up Craig Kelly.

Speaker 3 (49:05):
The Collingwood Footae clubs to town.

Speaker 4 (49:07):
Yes, I just hope they answer.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
He will. He's a great friend of mine.

Speaker 5 (49:11):
That's next year on the water Boys. Thanks to Tasmac,
your local Commoda dealer.

Speaker 2 (49:15):
He's the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
Thanks to Tasmac, your local Commota dealer.

Speaker 5 (49:20):
It is the water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless.
And Blair promises a big name interview this week and
he's gone straight to the Collingwood Footay Club, the biggest
club in the AFL, of course, and he's got their
new president on the line for us, sorry, the new CEO,
Craig Kelly.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
Welcome to the water Boys, Craig, Brent and Blair.

Speaker 7 (49:39):
Thank you for having me and not president.

Speaker 6 (49:42):
I'm not.

Speaker 7 (49:44):
From Brownie. Might I got through the first week without
him sacking me. So well, I'll hang in there. So
hopefully he teaches me there.

Speaker 6 (49:52):
Which will be good.

Speaker 7 (49:53):
Good to you both. Good as he flowing along down man.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
Well, it's a nice and warm Craig down here because
we're they're excited.

Speaker 7 (50:00):
Now.

Speaker 3 (50:00):
Yesterday you guys had a practice game against Carlton, and
I think the season's over for Colling had already. You
lost that practice game by ten points. So there's no
way forward. But there is a way forward because next Thursday,
too much Utah Stadium. This is huge five to ten pm.
The Pies are coming to town to take on the Hawks.

Speaker 7 (50:22):
But it's awesome. I'll be heading down there, I think
riding the coaches guys going down Thursday, right, he's going
back to his home home and I think he's got
a few of his family to catch up with. The
boys are all going down there for the game. It's fantastic.
It's a great, great stadium, and it's a great city.

(50:43):
And I've got a lot of friends in they'll go
down above Boob a little bit see Richard and Rosco mates.
So it'll be good to get down there. I'm going
to actually get there a bit earlier for all the
pie supporters that want to come down and have a
chat and see what's going on. We're going to be
at the Sports Garden Hotel from about one o'clock in
George Street, so get down there at one o'clock around lunchtime.

(51:04):
We've got some ties at the pub. Just register, go online,
have a look on the website. Register and if they
want to come and give me some advice on what
I've got to do, I'll be there to have a chat.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Well, it's an interesting time slide, isn't it like Thursday
five ten? So we expect all of the local loncess
and school kids to get there after school that day.
It's just a little bit tough for us in Hobart
to travel up if you're working there. But I expect
a big crowd because whenever Connie would come to town
it's a big feature. But just want to talk about

(51:36):
your first day there, Craig. I think you just put
the shoes under the table there and the news of
Jack Inovan popped up. Was that day one at your
office there?

Speaker 7 (51:46):
Well officially officially day one was my mate's just gone.
But we had we had our season launch jump the
present presentation on the Friday before that, so I was
there for that, and we're getting some news at that
stage of what pretends did happened. So that Monday was

(52:07):
obviously that Sunday into that Monday was my first few
days at work. But look, I think that's being said
about that. He's a good young kid and he's he'll
be right. We've got supported him.

Speaker 6 (52:20):
Now and away we go.

Speaker 7 (52:22):
I've been involved in the game for Fairwell, had to
put up with your brother for a long while. So
there's been been examples of the journey who had to
always deal with that, and I think the industry is
or not. I think the industry does a really good
job but bringing young men along and helping them when
they have difficult times. So that's good.

Speaker 4 (52:41):
Now.

Speaker 3 (52:41):
It's super impressed by Jack actually, because he really owned
his own behavior there. The other one I was impressed
with was Darcy Moore as well, when he spoke about that.
You must be rapped to see young Darcy get the
Captaincy oh mae.

Speaker 7 (52:55):
It's just a class act. Always has been his dad.
You know, he's obviously been on the game and in
the game, and you see the same with the two
dayclass boys, mate, they've just and you know, I'd like
to think my boys have seen it and do a
pretty good job at it. As well as presenting the
leading our club. He's just an outstanding leader and our
whole leadership group is they got very heavily involved in

(53:19):
the Jack situation and handle it really well. Fly Praig
is really powerful and as our leper and bolts, I'm
making sure that people own their outcomes. You know, the
young men, we're growing up adults, so you know, he
does have a lot of rules. Everyone has to, you know,
sort of look after themselves and that's what that group

(53:40):
does and it makes you a better, better club with
a lot of things we can do over in my
side of the business and get in alignment with the
whole thing. It's really exciting for the fans out there.
This is not a short term thing. It's a big
long term play. So you know, we want to be
successful and there's some clubs we want to chasing chase down, Craig.

Speaker 5 (53:59):
Kelly than you Collingwood Foody Clubs CEO as our guest
on the water Boys this morning. Craig, you had Gilla
mcgloughlin in town on Thursday, bringing a big check with him.
But so we need a stadium to unlock that check.
But what's the Collingwood Footy clubs stance on a Tasmanian
IFL team.

Speaker 7 (54:14):
Before I say that, I just I've been involved in
sports for pretty odd years and you look at what
stadiums do for towns and cities. You look at how
whenever I have people from overseas, they look at them.
The precinct that we have in Melbourne, our precinct city center,

(54:35):
and it creates traffic, creates opportunities. Harry Styles. Last night
at Marvel Stadium, fifty thousand people so went to Adelaide.
My son was over there playing Adelaide over when they
closed Footy Park. Every weekend there's something happening and that
city now is popped because of it. So if anyone
down there doesn't think a stadium is a good idea
in that part of town in Hobart, where there's an

(54:58):
opportunity to put it right near the middle of city
grade overview of the whole area, it is just fantastic
to be able to do that. And that's got to
be a long term, fifty year player that creates opportunities
for the city.

Speaker 6 (55:10):
Not just footy.

Speaker 7 (55:11):
Think about all the things you could be doing. Like
Harry Styles, I would imagine would have been able to
go down and play down there. Those opportunities don't come
around very often. So obviously they need some more money
and that's going to come from the federal government. I'll
leave that to Gill and the team. From Collingan's point
of view, Brown has always said, we support and think

(55:33):
that there's a Tasmanian football team is the right thing
to do. It's just got to be done at the
right time, and it's also got to make the right
commercial sense and we can't just keep.

Speaker 9 (55:45):
Throwing out cash.

Speaker 7 (55:46):
So you know, we've got nine clubs at the moment,
but some of them aren't washing their face and making
the money they should. So we've got to make sure
we do this at the right time and make sure
we have the numbers. I'm not privy to that yet.
I've just got into the chair, so hopefully I can
get up to speed on some of that stuff over
the next few weeks.

Speaker 6 (56:03):
But we're fully supportive of growing our game.

Speaker 7 (56:06):
It's just got to be the right time, the right numbers.

Speaker 5 (56:09):
Now, before you go, Craig and I have looked after
Bill Brownless for many years as a manager.

Speaker 6 (56:13):
But hard job.

Speaker 3 (56:16):
Is he your number one talent? There in your statement,
I'm no.

Speaker 7 (56:21):
Longer I'm no longer part of the business. So yeah,
I think Sally Harris who and Tony Bob who was
one of Billy's great friends. I would think she'd say
exactly that, but she might say that about a few
others as well.

Speaker 5 (56:33):
You've also got a connection to my co host, to
the other be Brownless old Spaghetti back in the day
when you play with him in the in the Collingwood
Reserve side.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
Oh well, Craig was in the seniors. Let's put that there.

Speaker 7 (56:47):
I didn't talk to anyone in the two. I couldn't
really play runs.

Speaker 4 (56:54):
Allegedly.

Speaker 3 (56:55):
You come on, be kind, Craig. You you once walked
past me into get out of the way.

Speaker 7 (57:04):
You didn't see you don't see many brown Lesses in
the gym doing the work, and little skinny Arts wasn't
in there.

Speaker 3 (57:12):
I could have been anything. If I could kick it
a bit better market, a bit better run.

Speaker 4 (57:16):
A bit faster, I could have been anything.

Speaker 5 (57:20):
Great to have you on, Craig, really appreciate your time
on a Saturday morning. Great to see you in the
in the top job there, Collie, wouldn't have good luck
with it, mate, appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (57:28):
Thanks guys and all the supporters coments. Would be great
to see you, like you said at Lonnie at the
game and also at the Sports Garden Hotel so and
and there's some great hawks On people down there as well.
So get out there and support the game and let's
let's get off to a good.

Speaker 3 (57:44):
Starf Gret, just a real quick one. You have a
full list of players. This is only practice game too,
isn't it.

Speaker 7 (57:49):
Yeah, that's they. Luckily we've got through last night I
think pretty pretty much un scared. So yeah, looking forward
to getting the whole the squad down again.

Speaker 6 (58:00):
That it'll be good.

Speaker 4 (58:01):
Fantastic.

Speaker 5 (58:01):
Craig, thanks so much for joining us on the water
Boys mate. Also there he goes Craig Kelly, the CEO
of the Collingwood Foota Club, joining us here on the
water Boys this morning.

Speaker 4 (58:10):
You going to get to a break on the other
side of it.

Speaker 5 (58:12):
We wrap up the show with our good Sport Award
and of course Richard Wels from running the Bridge that's
next here on the water Boys right across Tasmania. Thanks
to tas Mack your local Cabota Dealeres.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
Here's the water Boys.

Speaker 5 (58:23):
Thanks for Tasmack your local Cobota dealer. It is the
water Boys with Brent Cosstelo and Blair Brownless.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
He has been doing the hard years this week thanks
to McDonald's, it's time to announce the next winner of
the water Boys Good Sport Award.

Speaker 5 (58:34):
Yes, we love this segment where our winner gets one
hundred dollars to spend it into sport. Thanks to our
great friends at McDonald's. Pick up forty chicken, McNuggets and
tangy Cajun sauce at macas drive through. Today's select items
available for a limited time, Blarry, Who's our winner this week?

Speaker 3 (58:49):
The winner this week is young Tom Canning. He's only
six years of age. It goes to Saint Virgil's Junior School.
He's a sports nut Breno, so instead of getting up
at six am to watch the cartoon, he puts on
KO to catch up with all the sporting news from overnight.
He loves his basketball. His favorite player is Milton Doyle
of course from the Jjson. You'll love this one, Brende.

(59:11):
He also likes the West Coast Eagles. And say there's
a supporter club of you and him in this state.
He was devastated when Josh Kennedy retired and just to
pick a new favorite player. He also likes his soccer
and cricket new name. He absolutely looking forward to Round one.
He's going to head over and watch the West Coast
Eagles play Round one.

Speaker 14 (59:31):
Fantast I think he'll be the ticket because that game's
in Melbourne and then he's hoping to catch the big
one that weekend, the Cats versus the Pies at the
mcg So congratulations Tom Canning, you are a winner this week.

Speaker 4 (59:44):
That's our longest ever blurb too about a winner.

Speaker 3 (59:47):
So well, great little kid, he's only six. He's a
sports that very nice.

Speaker 5 (59:51):
One hundred bucks a spend into sports headed your way
and we do it all thanks to McDonald's. Also pick
up the Big Valley Bundle for just twenty six ninety
five at Macker's drive through today, available between ten thirty
and midnight at participating restaurants. And if you'd like to
nominate someone for our Good Sport Award, head to the
website of the stage you're listening to us on it
right now. Look up our water Boys page and nominate someone.
It could be a player, coach, or a volunteer, anyone

(01:00:12):
actually that's doing a wonderful job in the local sporting community.
Now next weekend is going to be big Run. The
Bridge is back for twenty twenty three, bigger and better
than ever. And joining us on the line now to
have a quick chat about it is the race director
Richard Welsh geta well, she welcome.

Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
Back to the show.

Speaker 6 (01:00:30):
So it's good to be with you again.

Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
Nice to hear your voice.

Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
Now I'm hearing some bit breaking news coming through that
Blair Brownless, who has been the most arrogant person about
this particular subject, always at the start line of the
ten k race, Big Race, and you've decided to take
yourself off to Melbourne next week.

Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Richard's devastated. He's a little bit flat. I've been talking
to him on the radio. But the big news is
because Brent, you just host the Fun One, you're.

Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
The sound, the fun guy, the fun Stipe.

Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Does Brent get an elevation to the Big Race there?

Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
Richard, I don't want an elevation.

Speaker 6 (01:01:06):
Well, I'm not going to talk to the book is
dead to me. So you like to go to the.

Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
I don't think. I kind of like being on the bridge.

Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
Well she so if you're happy for me to stay there,
I'd rather stay there, to be honest.

Speaker 15 (01:01:19):
Well stay there, mate, we've got the business shout out
of right now, let's talk about the ring.

Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Yeah, numbers looking at.

Speaker 6 (01:01:26):
Mate, pretty good.

Speaker 15 (01:01:27):
We'll still be ancing out of COVID obviously, so we
we're on track with what we had last year. So
there'll be a few over three thousand, which is really nice.
Nice people out having a good run on walk and
I think the weather's looking all right.

Speaker 6 (01:01:41):
First time we've gone into water.

Speaker 15 (01:01:43):
Actually we normally this weekend, but where we got bumped
out there was some other event on a peter w
one I was told which now isn't on.

Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
Was in towns.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
Richard.

Speaker 6 (01:01:56):
Let's move on.

Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Tell us all the different ways we can run next weekend, Richard.

Speaker 15 (01:02:04):
Well, of course we've got the traditional ten k, which
starts at Buntone Arena and finishes at Salamker. If that's
a bit too far, you can do the five k,
which starts pretty much on top of the bridge and
you get a spectacular view with no cars on it,
of course, except it's the emergency Pagle yes, they're all out,
because every time I say that, people like, what about
emergency vehicles?

Speaker 6 (01:02:23):
Of course we leave a lane for the eagles, So
the five.

Speaker 15 (01:02:29):
K run and of course the Canteen walker at Big
Charity this year, so hoping that people support Canteen when.

Speaker 6 (01:02:34):
They registered to. You can start pretty much on top of.

Speaker 15 (01:02:38):
The bridge, which is a pretty surreal experience, isn't it.

Speaker 6 (01:02:41):
Brand when you're up there.

Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
With no cars, Yes, it is great, but to a
particularly when I get there early because I'm the only
one on there cut apart from a couple others, that
is a very surreal feeling. Hopefully the speakers are fixed
up this year Welsh I've never can hear me though,
to make sure.

Speaker 15 (01:02:56):
It'll be all good. And then so you guys finish
of Salmone's got all the events finished down there with
a big, glorious led finish line.

Speaker 6 (01:03:06):
And then the one kilometer for the kids.

Speaker 4 (01:03:08):
Yeah, the kiddie race, yeah, pleasure gon enter that on.

Speaker 3 (01:03:12):
Ran in it last week last year, sorry with his
little time. Yeah, and so I had to compare that
one the race.

Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Of the one. Anyway, we're gotta we're got to wrap
this up. But well she had your enter steel. Can
you went up to the day or when Wednesday close?

Speaker 6 (01:03:28):
Sorry the background noise. I'm on the spirit of and
they just doing to wake up cool. Have been away
for a while, hope. I run the bridge dot com.
Do you jump on and register?

Speaker 15 (01:03:38):
You can do it up until next Friday, so you're.

Speaker 6 (01:03:41):
All good to go.

Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
Very nice.

Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
We'll get you on the program next week to prove
you the race itself. Welsh, but thanks for your time
this morning.

Speaker 6 (01:03:47):
Awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
Thanks there you guys. Richard Welsh, Big show blade quickly
fishing again.

Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
This one. They've just got to feed the family and yourself.

Speaker 6 (01:03:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
Well it's the bally catching up with you.

Speaker 5 (01:04:01):
Got to go and actually find some food to hosting
the MBA paid a Jackie.

Speaker 4 (01:04:06):
Hopefully a nice easy day tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
Milton Doyle red hot favorite.

Speaker 5 (01:04:10):
All right, that is it for the Big show this morning.
Thanks for you camping me. We'll see you next Saturday.
