Speaker 1 (00:00):
No matter what they're spied, where it's played, or the
teams behind it, We've got it.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Thanks to Tasmac, Devin bord Montestern Bridgewater and Smifton, your
local Kaboda dealer.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
Good morning everyone, Welcome to the water Boys for another
super Saturday of sport. It is Brent Costello with you
alongside my great mate Cam Brown Howe Brownie.

Speaker 5 (00:22):
Going really well this morning. Brent, you've got your Jack
Jumpers sweater on.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
I do have my Jack Jumpers sweater on. It's a
big week because we've got the list finalized and we'll
talk to Madjouk Dang later in the show, who became
the team's last signing during the week, So looking forward
to that. We'll get to what else is coming up
on the show shortly. But you backed the Swans last
night and I let you down at big time because
they kicked six eighteen fifty four to Geelong seven twelve

(00:49):
fifty four draw at the SCG. Swans only had themselves
to blame in the end though.

Speaker 5 (00:53):
Yeah they'd be kicking themselves. Unfortunately, Robbie Fox had an
opportunity with about two minutes ago run into the open
goal on slight angle and missed Hicky miss one, so
Sydney would be pretty disappointed with that one. Gelong hung
on in the end they did.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Indeed some great news coming out of Lord's two overnight.
We're going beautifully in the cricket.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
Yeah, we are a lead of two hundred and twenty one,
so we bowled England out for three hundred and twenty five.
Stark bounced back three for eighty eight and unlikely Travis
Head with two for seven and we know about the
calf injury to Nathan Lyon, so we'll touch on that
a bit later on. We will not sure he'll get
up for the rest of the series. And in our
second innings we're two for one hundred and thirty to

(01:33):
not out. Batsman at the crease Kowhajap fifty eight night
out and Steve Smith six not out.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Very nice. A couple of games in the NFL last
night Penrith the big win over Melbourne thirty four to
sixteen and South's had a great win over New Zealand
twenty eight to six. As we touched on a big,
big show ahead this morning, cam we will touch on
the first Test, sorry the second Test after the week
that was Majock Dean will join us, as I mentioned
off the top of the show, Grant Birchill, the fourths

(02:00):
Premiership Hawk. He's playing a game in Tazzy this weekend, Brannie,
so looking forward to talking to the superstarlities Grant Birchill
and then all roads lead to North Hobard over the
start that own for our representative games against Queensland. Will
be joined by women's Rep coach for Tasmani and Dev
Reynolds and men's state coach mav Weela will also dissect
the AFL and then a tough end of the show

(02:21):
for us coming up this morning. Brandie will get to
that a little bit later on. That is all coming
up for you over the next couple of hours. Here
on the water Boys we get all thanks to tas
Back your local Caboda dealer. This here's the water Boys,
thanks to tas Back your local Caboda dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costello and Cam.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Brown reflecting on score from the past seven days. Here's
the water Boys week.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
It was ploody going on locally, nationally and internationally. Let's
start at Valley Road with the Australia Cup draw on
Wednesday night. Brannie Devenport have locked in the game against
the Gold Coast Nights up on the Gold Coast. They'll
be pretty happy with that. The Devinport Boys or can
getting a in the middle of the winter to the Goldie.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
Well, it'll be a nice change up in scene or
for them, completely different climate and an opportunity I would
have thought too. Against the goald Colase team.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yeah, absolutely, they're pretty much around the same market. I
think they've dropped one game and Devinport haven't dropped the
game at all this season yet in the league, so
they're going beautifully and looking forward to the Australia Cup.
Haven't got the exact date for that yet, that'll be
announced in the coming days. But good to see the
Strikers back on the national stage. The probably would have
loved the home game. It's been awesome at value road
getting those home Australia Cup games and good little money

(03:31):
spinner two for the club. I reckon with the crowd
they get there, but they're on the road and they'd
be pretty happy about it. I reckon just on soccer.
So Devenport hosts South Hobart today Brownie and in the
lack of cup final. A few weeks ago, Devenport coach
Tom Valentine was skating really about the treatment of his
players by South Hobart, So there could be some fireworks
up there at Valley Road today.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Yeah, I read with the interest about that. So there's
a bit of spite and no love lost between those
two teams, so we'll see how that plays out. Speaking
of soccer too, we should acknowledge Aaron moy who announced
his retirement from club and international football in the last
twenty four forty eight hours were to start for Australia
finished off his campaign obviously. Was Celtic under Ange pastacogli.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yep absolutely a star, there's no doubt about that. Hey.
Great to see Alistair Clarkson making it integrating himself back
into the footy club after taking that time away. You
won't be seeing your coach for a little while yet,
we don't think. But he'll be behind the scenes doing
a few bits and pieces. That's great news.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
So he'll spent a month at Artis Street working in
a part time capacity at the club on game trends
and analysis as he gradually ramps up his involvement at
the club's coaching program. So North Melbourne of City will
definitely coach the club before the season ends.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
That's great news because he didn't know what to expect
there did We know? He's been through a lot. We
know that and to see him come back before the
end of the year is really really good news. What
about the tragic passing of Matt Rendell unbelievably sad sixty
two or sixty three. I think he was out walking
his dog and just have you had much to do
with that over the journey.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
A couple of times Medie Randella cross the journey and
look a highly respected AFL figure. Had a decorated playing
career at Fitzroy, spent a little bit of time to
Brisbane at the back end of his career and then
was involved in the media, but then went into the
list analysis of Adelaide. Spent some time at Collingwood in
recruiting capacity as well. So much loved and we'll be

(05:28):
a sad loss. Our thoughts go out to him and
his family absolutely.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
How about Hatzeglue signing with the Hurricanes. We've got the
two spin kings now in Paddy Dooley and hats the glue,
So how do you say that working. We've had two
spinners before and we used to open with the spin
balls too back in the day. Good signing.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
I like this signing, Brent. I think it adds a
bit of variation to the Hurricanes attack. We traditionally don't
really have two spinners playing. I wouldn't have thought too
often do with the Hurricanes. But we'll see how that out.
And we know what a season Duly had, so let's
hope it's really complementary. And you need depth in your squad,

(06:05):
don't you all sorts of teams and conditions that you
play again, So I think man just to have that
diversity in the group a really shrewd signing.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Absolutely. Let's go to basketball and the Opals have produced
their best performance at the Asia Cup to qualify for
the semi finals and ninety one sixty four win over
South Korea last night, so that's great news. Of course,
long Cestem Tornado is captain Keeley Frowling a part of
that team. Brandie, and just want to give a shout
out too to the Tasmani Netball League who was celebrating

(06:35):
Indigenous Round this weekend. We've got two round of brownds
of fixtures in Hobart over the next couple of days
and a really great balls being designed too, with indigenous
artwork that they'll use for these games as well, So
that is fantastic to see. We've got a big shower
head this morning. We know that we told you what's
coming up. Been out too. We've got two representative coaches

(06:57):
for Tasmania's state game today, tabout Over, dev Reynolds and
Maverick Weller joining us later this hour. We're going to
talk to Grant Birchill, the four time premiership Hawk and
new tasmani at Jack Jabber signing Madruk Deng. But up
next we'll take a deep dive into the second Test
that Lord's the Aussies are on top after a couple
of days of that game. That's next year on the
water Boys doing it all thanks to taz Back, your

(07:18):
local Commuta dealer.

Speaker 6 (07:20):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Thanks to taes Back, your local Kobuta dealer. It's the
water Boys with Brent Corcelo and Cam Brown on this
Saturday morning, the first of July. Can you believe it?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
It's the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Cricket report were well on top after Day three of
the Second Test at Lord's, Australia two for one point
thirty at stumps, an overall lead of two hundred and
twenty one runs with eight wickets left in hand. In
our second innings, England was all out for three hundred
and twenty five. They just imploded in that first session
last night. Usmand Kawaja unbeaten on fifty eight, Steve Smith

(07:55):
not out on six, Cam Brown. What have you made
of the Second Test so far?

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Well, I thought it was really interesting. I thought on
day two the top order of England threw away some
of the advantage that they had in their game.

Speaker 7 (08:09):
Three quick wickets, Inn't they some bizarre all out to
the hook shot which was really strange some of the
shot selections there, And so I just thought they, let
you know, left the door a jar a little bit
for Australia.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
And then yesterday morning it was an early wicke at
the start, wasn't it when you got the wicked of
Stokes which is a nice catch by Cameron Smith and
then away they went. But England they're going going to
go down to the y the way they're playing at
the moment, which is bas ball, and we know the
openness and freedom and they've got from their coach and

(08:43):
obviously the way they go about and play play the game,
attack right from the word go. But it unraveled again
for them yesterday. I thought Bretton Australia's tactics were brilliant.
I don't know how much you saw of the game,
but they pitched obviously a lot of short balls at
the England batsman, and I thought Harry Brooke kind of

(09:04):
threw his wicket away with a strange shot. I thought
he was going really well and obviously a good start
at fifty, but then seemed to back away and then
it was a really soft dismissal off Mitchell Stark, who
I thought was terrific in the way he came back
yesterday after he was built it around a little bit
on day two. So in the end and the tail
capitulated too. So Australia with a handy lead of ninety

(09:27):
odd and now two for one hundred and thirty, we're
extremely well placed. When you look at and you were
telling me about the history at Lord's Two, only three
times in one hundred and forty years as a team
chased more than two hundred and twenty one to win
the game. Around the box seat, you'd think.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah, the only disappointing part of all this is the
calf injury to Nathan Lyne, which sounds not great. And
I mean the only person that'll be happy about this
is Todd Murphy. You think it gets we'll get his
opportunity in the next test if it goes that way.
But didn't sound good?

Speaker 5 (09:56):
No, And look was walking around in crutches and look crestfallen,
didn't he when he was taken from the field, And
you'd think a calf at his age and as they say,
do I say it the old man's injury? But the
ashes is all over in July, Brent, So you'd think
he's no chance to play next week because there's a
quick turnaround with a third Test. So you're right, Todd

(10:19):
Murphy gets his opportunity. Can I ask you about Kowaja, Brent?
Because his form is stunning, isn't it. He's been dropped
how many times I don't know, six or seven times
in his test career and when the media and the
critics came for him, look, you know you heard words
like lethargic, you know, the languid approach that he had

(10:40):
at times. I think Shane Warning even said it looks
like he doesn't care. He doesn't put value on his dismissal.
Did we read too much into that body of land
which because he just seems to have a great awareness
and understanding of his game. Now I thought he about
it beautifully again, he had a chance last night. It's
got to be set on eighteen or nineteen hit about
ten boundaries. But he he's having a stunning resurgence to

(11:02):
his career.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
There's no denying his talent. And the other noock he
had too was his form in England and he certainly
stuck that up a few people and you could see
the emotion come out when you've got that century in
the first Test. So no, I love how he goes
about it. I think he's an absolute superstar and this
might be just where he's coming into the form of
his career. Just back on to Nathan Line. The official
update from Cricket Australia last night said Nathan Line has

(11:23):
been diagnosed with a significant calf strain. He'll require a
period of rehabilitation after this match has concluded. A decision
regarding his availability for the remainder of the series we
made at the conclusion of the game. So that's where
that is at. And hopefully, as we say, it's not
as bad as it seems, but doesn't sound too good.
How do you see the rest of the test playing out?

(11:43):
Then we'll just bat out.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
I think Australia will keep batting. Look, the conditions obviously
reduce your amount of play that was allowed last night,
So Australia look to push the game ahead, but with
a lead of two hundred and twenty, with Smith and
I just still at the crease. We need to talk
about Travis Head too. That was an amazing innings again
from him the other day, seventy balls. It was a

(12:08):
reckless shot he got out to in the end and
ungainly dismissal where he was stumped. But you ride that
out because he's almost Gilchrist like the way he comes
in and just hit so many boundaries right from the
word go. And the interesting thing is, I reckon England
would be bowling to him thinking jue or a chance
or a chance. All of a sudden you look up,
he's got thirty, then he's got forty, and he takes

(12:30):
the game away from you. So he's another one who
in the latter part of his career is so complimentary
that top order and Australia seemed like they've got a
well balanced team. But yeah, you would think Australia with
eight wickets in hand could get that lead up to
four hundred and then a too nill lead.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
You talk about Travis Head too, makes that time when
he got dropped recently on that tour wherever we were, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
It was harsh too. You go to the subcontinent, that's right,
and didn't play the first Test. I think they might
have played Renshaw from him.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
So yeah, it's a head scratch.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
Hans came in most bizarre thing ever, But it just
looks like he's playing with real freedom and confidence his
own game and confidence from the coaches about how he
goes away. We need to mention Alex Carrey too, because
he has been brilliant in the first part of this series.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Absolutely agree. Tell what else is brilliant? Our Ossie girls too,
having a win in their Test match against England as well,
so they're off to a fly in their action series.
That's the only test match they play. They play now
a series of Odie eyes and t twenties. But that
gets you a lot of points that test win. So
I'd love to see more of the girls playing.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
I don't know, you know one I think is a
bit insulting, that is true. I thought that game was
just headed for a double draw, then out of nowhere
they couldn't handle the spin in the end the English
women and full credit to the Aussie girls.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Absolutely that is our cricket rap. But in the second
hour this morning, in a deep dive into the state
footy game which is happening at North Haigbard today with
Deb Reynolds and mav Wela. But up next we're going
to look at basketball. Madruk Deng became the latest Tasmania
Jack Jumpers signing this week. In fact, he completed the
Tasmania Jack Jumpers squad and Madriuk will join us next
year on the water Boys. Doing it all thanks to Tasmack,

(14:14):
your local Commodo dealer.

Speaker 6 (14:15):
This here's the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Thanks to Tasmack, your local Koboda dealer. It is the
water Boys with Brent Costello and Cam Brown. Our next
guest became the final piece of the jack Jumpers playing
puzzle for season twenty twenty two twenty three when he
signed on the dotted line during the week. He stands

(14:39):
at a whopping two hundred and five centimeters and his
name is Madruk Deng Maduke. Welcome to the water boys.

Speaker 8 (14:45):
Thank you for having me.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Thank you tell us about how you landed at the
jack Jumpers. Was it an easy decision for you in
the end?

Speaker 5 (14:52):
It was this.

Speaker 8 (14:55):
Because of the coach. I think they coin make it
easy for me to for me to come down there.
I don't think he I mean, he's an honest guy.
And he told me exactly what what he sees in
me and what he what he expects.

Speaker 9 (15:12):
Out of me.

Speaker 8 (15:12):
And then yeah, he just lined up pretty well with
what I was looking for, and yeah, it was a
no brainer after that.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
And what was it that Scott Roth said that he
did want to you?

Speaker 8 (15:22):
He sees me as a guy that can come and
play a mutual position, best start forward, that can shoot
my length. That's something that he hasn't had, and he's
looking forward to for me to be out there, be
able to rebound and just like just being a best

(15:45):
big man, you know, that's that's something that he's looking
forward to. And and I feel like I can I
can do that. That's one of my strengths and and
to be able to be a coached by him, I
think it's Yeah, it's something I'm looking forward to.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I guess what we do know about Scott is that
he doesn't offer any promises when players do some with
the club and everyone starts on a level playing field.
But the bonus there is, the opportunity is yours if
you want it.

Speaker 8 (16:12):
Yeah, there is, because just watching just from the outside
for the last two years, anybody can play. How soon
you put in the work from a DP all the
way to the last guy in Milton. If you don't
do all the works or the little things that the
team needs. I think that following yourself and and and

(16:34):
I definitely don't want to be that guy. I want
to be the guy that do all the the thing
that needed for the team to win and of course
to get me to on the court.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
I know you've got a young family as well, and
we know that jack Jumper is a very family oriented club.
Was that a decision for you in the process as
well looking after them.

Speaker 8 (16:52):
Yes, yeah, they definitely were, especially when they when the
balls start rolling. They had a little only day they've
been for the last three weeks, they've been trying to
find a way where they can help me and that thing, right,
they just made me more comfortable and comfort to each
day and and they just solidified my decision of going there,

(17:15):
just ensuring that they actually do care about my family
and myself. And you know, and when you're in a
situation like that, you know you can't help it, but
to be more excited and just go out there and
do you do what you do best and give it
all you got.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
New Jack Jumpers recruit ma Duk Dang is special guest
on the water Boys this morning. Maduk. For those that
haven't followed your basketball career, just give us a bit
of a quick rundown about your journey in the game
I played.

Speaker 8 (17:44):
I started playing basketball a little bit late. When I
was in year eleven. God was blessing enough to go
to college, went to junior college, graduated there, went to
a four year school, finished there summer league. Came back
to Adelaide for three years. After three years my contract finished,

(18:07):
shouted a chance to go to the taype Pens, which
was grateful for.

Speaker 6 (18:12):
UH was there for four years.

Speaker 8 (18:14):
And now I'm here so be in the league.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Now for eight years.

Speaker 8 (18:18):
So I feel like I've been here forever, so but
now another fresh start with the jack Jumpers, and I'm
excited about it.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
I'm a Jokiola roving Tasmania in some pretty good for
me having a great campaign in the NBA one at
the moment.

Speaker 8 (18:34):
Yeah, I'm finally enjoying basketball again. And when you enjoyed basketball,
I think it is you just play with a free
mind and just enjoy yourself. And that's what's happening with me.
Just enjoying basketball a lot than I have in the
last maybe twelve months. So and for me to be
in this form going to the NBA season, it's amazing.

(18:57):
I can I couldn't want it any other way.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
Just expand on that for us, Did you fall out
love with the game for a little while?

Speaker 8 (19:04):
Yeah, it there was just a lot of things that
we're going on in the background that kind of didn't
That kind of pushed me away a little bit. But
now more focused than I was before and more motivated.
I guess I got chied with my choice and I
just can't wait, you know. And just for me to

(19:24):
be able to have final game playing basketball is I
think it's. I'm looking forward to it and looking.

Speaker 10 (19:31):
Forward to it.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
As I said off the top of the interview, with
your signing, makes the jack Jumpers playing list fully assembled
for the upcoming season. Now we know that, how do
you think the tame will go?

Speaker 8 (19:42):
Obviously, the last two years they're in the league they
made the finals, and the first year that made the
Grand Finals, and and and this year. As part of it,
I want to be I want to be part of
that team that take it all the way. And the
team we have definitely help a chance to do that.

(20:03):
We are exciting three imports and get a compliment by
the great group locals. So put that together with the
coach and the coaching staff, I think we have a
good chart taking that next step.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Yeah, let's hope so absolutely, and you'll be be part
of it. Madrook, thanks so much for joining us on
the water Boys this morning and all the very best
fore you moved to Hobart and the upcoming season.

Speaker 8 (20:26):
Yeah, no, thank you for having me. Appreciate it, looking
forward to it.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
That's the voice of Madrook Dang who you will see
running around for the jack Jumpers at my State Bank
Arena and the Silver Dime later this year. Can't wait
for it and can't wait for the rest of the
show as well. Coming up for you in our nuther
two plenty of footy with Deb Reynolds and Madwella who'll
be featuring in the state game at North Highbard over
the Start to Do and as the coaches for our
men's and women's teams. But up next we're talking footy

(20:51):
as well with four time Premiership Hawk Grant Birchill. That's
next on the water Boys doing it all thanks to Tasmak,
your local Kerboda.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Dealer is the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Thanks to Tasmack, your local Caboto dealer, It is the
water Boys with brancos Alla and Cam Brown. Now I
play that song Brownie, as this man is a very
very highly credentialed man from the Hawthorne Footay Club. Fourth
time premiership player of course, but he's now with the
Brisbane Lines where he finished his career and is now

(21:24):
a runner there. Of course, I speak of the great
Grant Birchill who joins us on the water Boys this
morning to day. Birch welcome back to the show.

Speaker 9 (21:30):
Mate, Good day guys, thanks for having me.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Great to have you on. Now I've got you on
because you're heading home today to play a game in
the States Northwest with originally States. Are you looking forward
to that.

Speaker 9 (21:40):
Mate, that's correct. Yeah, yeah, having to kick with originally,
so yeah, looking forward to it. So you're having a
kick an also a bit of a sporty Q and
a top of set up post game, so yeah, I
encourage everyone to pop down and have a look. If
you're not doing.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
Anything today, absolutely we'll get out a good plug at
the end of the segment. But it's how's life for you, mate?
Obviously retired now, but as I said, you're still a
runner there with the Brisbane line, so still got your
hand involved, which is really good.

Speaker 9 (22:08):
Yeah, yeah, no, it's awesome. It's able still involved with
the Lions. I work part time in the development space
and also the runner of a weekend so yeah, it's
good fun. It keeps me involved on game day see
things from a different perspective, so yeah, it's good fun.
Really enjoying it.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
Butchas Brownie here, can you tell us a bit about
that part time role that you do at Brisbane and
on a weekly basis? Is it I guess mentoring some
of the younger players in the first to three years
of their AFL career for instance, what's it look like.

Speaker 9 (22:41):
Yeah, just say the first or third sort of years
the arfaur listed boys and also work in the academy space,
so yeah, mich Han's have seen your coach there, so
work quite closely with him. And yeah, it got quite
a bit of interest in the list management recruiting space,
so sort of dig my heels into that. Yeah, it's great.

(23:03):
They've got a good little crew out there in the line.
So yeah, really enjoying it.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
And I guess the move from Hawthorne to Brisbane, and
I guess post football is at a state do where
you thought you'd live. Is that the long term plan
to stay at your plans in Brisbane?

Speaker 9 (23:21):
Yeah, we're comfortable there at the moment. If you had
have told me at the any more Hawks days I'll
end up at Brisbane, I would have laughed at you.
But it's funny how things pan out. So yeah, like
I said, really enjoying it up in Brisbane. My partner
Brittany really likes it up there, so we're pretty comfortable
there at the moment. But yeah, we'll just see what

(23:43):
happens if there's any opportunities that pop up down the track.
More than happy to have a chat and have a
listen and see what's around.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
And we know the role that you played at Brisbane
and bring that senior member up there and mentoring a
lot of the younger players and able to continue your career.
But can we touch on your time at Hawthorne because
an outstanding career for you and highly decorated. But playing
in those four premierships? Did you do you have your

(24:10):
dream of that? I guess when you came across in
the early party of your career from Devonport and I
think drafted in two thousand and six, and then to
have the team success that you have, Yeah, can you
look back now and really appreciate that golden era that
you had. Not a lot of players get to play
in one premiership, let alone for in a highly decorated

(24:31):
team at Hawthorne.

Speaker 9 (24:33):
Yeah, no, that's right. Yeah, you always dream of playing
in the premiership. I think as a youngster, all you
want to do is in the respect to your teammates
and get a game first and foremots and try and
hold your spot in the team. And then yeah, it
was just an unbelievable rite. Really, we all got well young,
we all got drafted together, were all just grew together

(24:55):
and it was an awesome journey to you are part
of and to yeah, to get for. Yeah, it's just
mind boggling. Really, I didn't didn't really anticipate at the
end of my career i'd play in playing for premierships.
So very very lucky, very lucky to have played alongside
some of the game's great and to be coached under
Clarko and these type of guys. Yeah, it was brilliant.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
The Great Grant virtuals our guest on the water Boys
this morning, Birch, No, you've had a close sign. What's
happening here at home with the IFL license. What have
you made of it from AFAR?

Speaker 9 (25:31):
Yeah, yeah, No, I'm all for it. I'm all for
the team in the stadium and all that. I think
it'd be awesome for the state. I just hope everyone
here in Tasity gets behind it and buys into it,
because I think it will do great things for the state.
I think it gives great opportunity for the for the
younger generation, particularly to have a clear pathway and the

(25:52):
dream I guess to play for their own state in
the AFL. So now I'm all for it. I'm all
behind it. So yeah, let's see, let's see how it goes,
and yeah, let's get behind it.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
You sort of said before that you'd love to you know,
look at options as they come up, or suppose down
the track and returning home as part of an AFL
organization would be be pretty attractive proposal, would have thought,
wasn't it.

Speaker 11 (26:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (26:19):
Yeah, no, I'm always up for listening too, new and
different ideas and having a chat where possible. So yeah,
I'd love to help out if there is a role
or anything down here. More than happy to sit down
and have a chat because I know the people that
have helped me. Danny Tazzy would love to give back

(26:40):
in some sort of way. So yeah, it's very exciting times.
Danny Tazzy for the footing.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
And obviously, mate, you're the runner at the lines as
we said, so your fitness mustn't be too bad if
you got that job. But how are you going to
go this afternoon, do you think?

Speaker 11 (26:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (26:55):
No, I do still pick the legs over a little bit.
I don't play any foot I'll played a couple of
one off games here and there, but yeah, still tick
the legs over and play the odd social game of
basketball and cricket, so that keeps me in some sort
of shape. So yeah, we'll see there we go today.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Be good fun, absolutely well. Two o'clock is the bounds
at the Wive and Host Showground, one to seven Pearl
Street in wyven High. And then of course you're back
at ridgially tonight for the sporty of course at the
originally community Center that starts at six point thirty for
seven o'clock. Do you know how people can get tickets Birch,
Are they still available for when to come along?

Speaker 9 (27:30):
I think yeah, you can jump jump online and have
a book. Your tickets should be great night. Ye have
plenty of plenty of good stories and good yarns, so
come on down, very good.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Mate, well, all the very best today. We look forward
to seeing how you go and look forward to seeing
you back in Tazzi more often now you're retired. Thanks
so much for joining us on the water Boys and
all the best.

Speaker 9 (27:50):
Mate guys, Thank you great.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Virtuell joining us there on the water Boys this morning.
He's playing, as we said, for originally Saints this afternoon,
and we wish you all the very best and the
sporty tonight. So just google originally Saints Grant Brchue online.
I'm sure you'll be able to form some tickets if
you want to head along. All right, that is our
first hout of the show. Done and dusted this morning.
We've got plenty still to come for in extra time.

(28:13):
They we're gonna have a deep dive into the big
game of footies, Big Games of footy today at Northabad
over with our Tasmanian representative men's and women's teams taking
on Queensland, will be joined by women's coach Deb Reynolds
and men's coach mav Wella. We'll also look at the
AFL as well and announce the next winner of our
good sport a war that's all to come for you
here on the Water Boys doing it all thanks to
tas Mack, your local Commotera dealer.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
No matter what the spot where it's playing or the
teams behind it, we've got it.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Thanks to Tasmac, Devin Bord, Montston, Bridgewater and Smithton, your
local Camboda dealer.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Very nice first hour of the show. We've got lots
more for you to come here in extra time. Before
we get to that, though, let's go through the overnight
scores and at the SCG it was Sydney and Geelong
playing out a draw Sydney six eighteen fifty four Geelong
seven twelve fifty four. So that was almost a mini
final for those two teams. Cam Brown and they've let
one slip there, haven't that they could come back to

(29:09):
buy them as we approach a very congested ladder and
towards the end of the season.

Speaker 5 (29:14):
Ironically, I said to my son when the game started,
I said, do we need to win out of this one?
From a Bulldogs pointed Sydney in Geelong and he said, oh,
I probably know either. I said, we need to draw
them now two or three hours later, but we're looking
at through the lens of the Western Bullders. But that
they'd be disappointed Sydney, I thought, you know, the amount
of scoring shots and opportunities and plenty of yeah, plenty

(29:37):
of gettable goals too, But I mean both teams kicked
pretty poorly in fantas but for Sydney to kick six
eighteen eighteen that's extraordinary. So they were disappointed with that
when they're just on the edge of finals calculations at
the moment. The Swan's and that extra. You know that
extra two points would have pushed them up to twenty

(29:58):
eight and they'd be in that log jam with or
five teams at the moment.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
What does that do for your weekend of hunting? Thing?
You've lost fifty Chris fifty dollar note.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
There cashed out, Loeward, you cashed.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Out, so you've got twelve bucks back, So thirty eight
dollars you've lost thirty That ruin you.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
You're killing the world about my no, no, I think
the dogs are about the bounced back today. Oh okay, yes,
very good that it.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
Would sort money, sort you out. What about the cricket
last night cameraon a good spot.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
We are Australia lead by two hundred and twenty one,
so England will have to defy history in one hundred
and forty, one hundred and forty years of ashes well
of cricket played at Lord's only three times as a
team chase more than two hundred and twenty one. So
you think we'd bat on and hopefully get a lead
of about four hundred, but we're currently two one hundred
and thirty. Kowaja fifty eight nine out, Steve Smith six

(30:46):
not out. That's after Australia had a stunning first session
on Day three. Day bowled England out for three hundred
and twenty five. England helped their cause by playing some
rash shots, which is their way. They go out swinging.
As we know, we're basball. But the Australian tactics of
short pitch bowling I thought really exposed the England, particularly
the lower order bating start three for eighty eight and

(31:08):
Travis Head filling in for Nathan Lyon two for seventeen.
We have to do a bit more bowling in the
fourth inning sprint should we.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
Go to New up in the five Tests series?

Speaker 5 (31:17):
Unassailable, wouldn't it unbelievable?

Speaker 4 (31:20):
A couple of games in the NFL last night Penrith
the big winner over the Melbourne Storm thirty four to
sixteen in South Sydney. In the earlier game twenty eight
to six winners over New Zealand. Big second hour coming
up for you on the show this morning are not
too far away. We're going to talk footy with Tasmanian
Women's Rep coach Deb Reynolds and Tasmanian Men's Rep coach
mav Weller Brandy and I'll also tear apart the latest

(31:42):
round of AFL. We wind up the show with some
Jimmy guilt news for us here at the water Boys.
But so we'll keep our chin up until then. That's
all coming up for you over the next sixty minutes
here on the water Boys, We've got extra time for
you here thanks to Tasmak, your local Combota dealer.

Speaker 6 (31:57):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Thanks to tas Back, your local Koboda dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costelo and Cam Brown. On
a bumper day for Tasmanian football. All roads lead to
North Hobart today. Of course, we've got the men's game
coming up at just after two o'clock. But before that
our state women's team will play for the first time
since twenty sixteen, and the person in charge of leading

(32:22):
that program is dev Reynolds, who is coaching them this afternoon.
Welcome to the water Boys and thanks for joining us,
particularly on the morning of a game.

Speaker 11 (32:30):
Yeah, good morning, then, thank you.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
How excited are you as you wake up on this
Saturday morning. You've had this role for a few months
now and you've been able to prepare the girls. But
you must wake up and be just just pumping it
out there.

Speaker 11 (32:41):
Yeah. Look, I wait very early this morning, so four
thirty I've been excited, seem Wow, it's been building for
some time. I spoke to the girls last night and
the excitement levels are really really good, but their attitude
goes along with it on a very balanced level. So
we need today to happen and we're at we are ready.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
What about the history of ladies wearing the map? I
suppose we heard from three former players last night. It
was it was a great occasion of the jumper presentation.
But as I said off the top, twenty sixteen was
the last game a long time between drinks, so just
must be great to be back out they're pulling on
the map.

Speaker 11 (33:18):
Yeah it is. It's a very proud moment for Tazzy Football.
But for the twenty four girls who were presented their
jumpers last night, you could tell that they're going to
hold onto those jumpers and where then with pride today.
It was a lovely occasion to have some former twenty
sixteen players there to present as well and to create
the atmosphere. But it was also mentioned that today when

(33:41):
we play it to battle and it's something that the
map actually instilled in you and that's what we have
on our hands today and we're ready to go.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
Talking to Dev b Reynold's the Tasmanian women'spresentive coach this
morning on the water Boys ahead of the big game
at North Obert Oval today dead two sixteen. That's a
long wait, obviously for our elite Tasmanian women to get
the opportunity to play representing footy. If you had the
ideal scenario, what would it look like. Would it be
a situation where the girls were playing every couple of

(34:15):
years and had that opportunity every year? What would what
be the ideal scenario for you?

Speaker 9 (34:20):
Ah?

Speaker 11 (34:20):
Look, I think this. I think this needs to happen
on a yearly basis. I think representative football, particularly for
the female space, allows the girls to play at the
highest level within their own station and to take that
across the water to the mainland to play the other states.
They don't often have that opportunity. So if we can

(34:42):
make this a yearly opportunity for the girls to play
the highest standard they can currently, I think that will
only you know, do really good things for female football
and deb.

Speaker 5 (34:52):
But to create opportunity for you personally to be coaching
today tell us a little bit about your journey, your
playing career and all as you venture into coaching.

Speaker 11 (35:03):
Yeah, well it starts a long time ago. Originally a
West Coaster and a proud West Coaster. I grew up
with my backyard being the gravel and although females weren't
allowed to play back then my journey, I guess, was
playing on the gravel in the backyard. But then through

(35:24):
the transition into lon Test and I played with the
Lontest and blues with the female space when tesel was
first introduced, and that was a wonderful experience, albeit at
that time football was very raw for the females. Transitioning
into coaching started in the junior days with my son. Wow,

(35:44):
a long time ago now when I stop and think
about that. But it's been a journey since I've loved
every moment of it and I'm really going to enjoy today.
Never thought i'd be in this position, but it's a
good one.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
Dead How do you prepare for a team you probably
don't know a heap about, I suppose. I'm sure you've
got hold a little bit of vision, but is it
difficult to prepare for Queensland when you haven't seen a
lot of their players.

Speaker 11 (36:09):
Yeah, we've watched a bit of footage with their game
style through the quaffle. We had some intel from some
former Tasmanian Devil's captain Jemma Blair et cetera, and other
other people Jess Wushner that would help us out a
little bit with their game style and how they played
and certain individuals. So we've had a bit of background knowledge.

(36:32):
The team was announced earlier in the week. We then
went to work a little bit more and found a
little bit more information out, had a bit more of
a look. So with the coaches around me, we seem
to have a good handle on what's happening today and
what's in front of us and.

Speaker 4 (36:46):
What about the sense of occasion today? As far as
you know, Tazzy football's in the spotlight a lot at
the moment with our potential IFL and AFLW teams coming in.
Do you feel some responsibility today to get the job done?
I suppose? Or how do you look at that?

Speaker 11 (37:01):
Oh, there's always responsibility. If you're going to put your
hand up for a role like this and had the
honor of wearing the guernsey with the map on it,
there comes a huge responsibility and I don't shy away
from that. In terms of a result. If we pick
all the right boxes and we achieve our KPIs along
the way, the score will take care of itself. But
the biggest thing the girls will go out there and

(37:23):
do it today. They'll have effort, they'll be courageous, and
I know when they walk off at the end that
they would have given everything. They're that type of group,
a pretty special group in such a short time of
you know, being sort of put together from three different
regions and making a team.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
Well, Deb, all the very best. As I said off
the top, it's great if you get give out some
of your time on such a big day for you,
Thanks so much and good luck today.

Speaker 11 (37:50):
I hope you get the w fantastic thanks guys, off
for you there.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Deb Reynold's there, the coach of the women's state team
joining us this morning on the water Boyd's going to
be a huge day. And up next we get the
other side of the coin with the men's coach, Mav Weller.
He'll join us after this here on the water Boys
doing it all thanks to tas Mak, your local Combota dealer.

Speaker 6 (38:07):
This here's the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
Thanks to tas Mack, your local Kobota dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costello and Cam Brown. We
are set for an unbelievable day of footy at North
Habard Oval. We just heard from women's state coach Deb Reynolds.
It's now time to check in with the men's side
of the Tasbania program. And joining us on the line
is the coach of the men's side, Mav Weller. Welcome
back to the water Boys.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
Mav.

Speaker 9 (38:31):
Thanks guys, nice to talk to you.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
Thanks for giving up some of your time on game day, mate,
We really appreciate that. But it is an exciting day
for Tasbany in footy, isn't it.

Speaker 10 (38:41):
Yeah, it's really exciting is obviously hasn't We haven't had
stay footy for a while and the boys are really.

Speaker 9 (38:50):
Ten to get.

Speaker 10 (38:51):
Obviously the landscape is changing for you, so boy's really
keen to put on a show.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (38:58):
Now.

Speaker 4 (38:58):
I saw you there yesterday a training for Queens Down.
You've got to look at them, but I know you've
been preparing for them for a few months now, I guess.
But what did you make of them as you sized
them up on the ground training yesterday.

Speaker 10 (39:12):
Well they didn't.

Speaker 9 (39:12):
They didn't give a lot a ways.

Speaker 10 (39:14):
I suppose the way they want to move a footy.
I thought they looked pretty pretty neat. It was just
good to see the sort of upfront. It's I've sort
of been tracking and tracking the team for probably the
last six months, and you know that the possible ins
and outs, but we know that they're going to play.
They want to play a free flying game, and I
think the conditions will work in our favor. Will play

(39:36):
traditional tassy dolls, strong contests and physicality and defense and
and and we think that matches up really well against
a team that just wants to probably possess the footy
and trying to move all quick. So, as I said day,
it's going to be one of moss in the midfield
and especially in North Hobart where you know it's not

(39:56):
a traditional size brand. Well it's probably more traditional from
the from the nineties, but you know it's gonna be
really important to win Clearence and and.

Speaker 5 (40:07):
Play Ford a footing Madbitz Brownie here all the best
for today. And I read with interest during the week
that you've you've really galvanized a group in a short
period of time, but have leaned on a few ex
famous AFL Tasmanians to talk about and provide some commentary
about what it means to wear the map of Tasmania.
How the boys responded to to I guess some of

(40:29):
those players reaching out and supporting you during the week.

Speaker 10 (40:33):
Yeah, that's been really recepted. The absolutely loved it, and
we haven't had any they have that short people putting
their hand up to lend a hand past players. We've
got Nick Probert as a past TASMANI represented it coming
in and the small today before the game. You know,
we have got your way talk and that man too,

(40:54):
and a few others talked last night. They have a
special message from Mattie Richardson, alis Lin Robinson and Jack Rerewell.
So you know, the guys they know that's the way
that it's carried and you know, the honor to wear
the map and you know, in terms of that it
it's been in terms of my job is to just

(41:18):
making them syched up for the game as sort of
doing my job for me. So they're really jumping out
of the.

Speaker 5 (41:24):
Skin and looking forward to it and may've obviously you'll
be focusing on the team and what individuals can do
collectively to help their teammates get across the line. But
if you look at the history of Tasmanian representing footy
in the and we haven't had a lot of it,
it's fair to say in the last a decade, I say,
but you look at Jeremy Webberley who had a really

(41:46):
good performance in the state game and back a long
time ago against Queensland, j Lockhart also performed really well,
won the medal and went on to be drafted by Melbourne.
So there is opportunities for individuals out of this game.

Speaker 10 (41:58):
Yeah, yeah, I know there is, and I think there's
a few of them sort of popping up. We've got
some younger guys who obviously had to pick the sixth
under twenty threes that they want to play. But ultimately,
you know, we sort of just wanted to pick players
that were desperate to play for Gazy and to do
it proud, and we've got a bit of a fill

(42:18):
that over the last three weeks and really happy with
the decide that.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
And MAV what would be the recipe you think or
the ideal sweet spot for Rep footy in Tasmania, because
you know, from the outside, it looks like we've had
a too long a gap and it's a great opportunity
that our players, our elite players in the competition get
to do today and wear the map and play against
another state. Ideally a question without notice, but what would

(42:47):
be the sweet spot? You know, playing a different state
every two years, every year a home and away. How
would it look?

Speaker 11 (42:54):
Well?

Speaker 10 (42:55):
I think I don't think there's anything wrong with having
an annual game. I think the more noise around it is.

Speaker 9 (43:03):
The better things.

Speaker 10 (43:04):
You know, always brings up conversations. Obviously we've been the
landscape changing now with the AFL team, and maybe that
does look a bit different. But you know, the feel
around this game, in particular with with the support and
probably a little bit of the noise around it is
pretty big. And you know it's I think guys are

(43:26):
can I see what happens today and really want to
be a part of it. And and and you know
the Pasminians will want to come and watch. So I
don't think there's been a reason why you can't come
do something like this annually. And and he's got the
opportunity and as you said before, you know j Jerry's
leveling and Rockart and Jeremy how and these guys played

(43:48):
really well in these games and then they carved out
as an NFL careers are still bounds, so you know,
why not, why not do it as a great initiative
and and and you know the standard Tavy footage. Now
these guys have played against each other so last attends
and now they play together and and and do something

(44:10):
a bit bigger than just club footage.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
So it's great And Matt before let you go. The
Queensland side obviously has got Jordan Arnold and Josh Arnold's
playing for you guys, so the two brothers going head
to head, but three other Tasbanies in that team too
as well as Jordan Adrian Williams, Brandon Bachelor and Jordan Hayden.
They've also got rich from premiership player Jacob Townsend. So
you've got a bit to worry about today with the
other opposition.

Speaker 10 (44:33):
Yeah, it seems like they've they've imported a bit of
grunt friends so they had to get it from Tazzy,
which iss. So yeah, look, you know, I'm not sure
how how excited they would be to play against Tazzy.
I'm sure they prefer to play for Tazzy and I
know that Robbo got the opportunity Mitt Roblinton's got the

(44:55):
opportunity to play for Cleensland and he quick to turn
it down. And I think that you know it hits
harder for Tasmin he's playing against our playing for the map,
and you know, we certainly think there was a lot
more to play for today. So looking forward to the
boys showing man out there today.

Speaker 4 (45:12):
Well made all the best. As I said, I really
appreciate you giving up some of your time for us,
particularly on game day the bounce just after two o'clock
the start and we're expecting you a bumper crowd at
North high bard Over. But mav well, we wish you
all the very best mate in your first time in
charge of the map, and all the best from us
here at the water boys.

Speaker 10 (45:28):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 6 (45:29):
Boys.

Speaker 4 (45:29):
Now there he goes Maverick Weller, who is a star
of course, wonderful IFL career before coming back here to
Tazzy and doing his bit in the coaching r any
now which we love to see as well. All right,
after this we're going to turn our attention to the
afil Brandy and have a look at the latest round,
a couple of games we've had so far and what's
to come. That's up next on the water Boys doing
it all thanks to tas Mak, your local Coboda dealer.

(45:51):
This is the water Boys thanks to tas Mak, your
local Cobota dealer. It's the water Boys with Brent Coostelo
and Cam Brown telling their attention.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
To the national game. It's the water Boys. AFL RAM.

Speaker 4 (46:03):
The latest round of the AFL started back on Thursday
night at the GAB. I loving Thursday night footy, Cam,
But I didn't love this game too much. It was
a stinker to be fair, because it was a big
win to the Brisbane Lions twenty fourteen one point thirty
four to Richmond seven eleven fifty three. Just when we
thought the Tigers might be making a late charge, they
were brought back to earth with a giant thud.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
Yeah they smashed them, didn't they. Brisbane and Joe dannas
in ripping form. Is he five goals? McCarthy one of
his better games for the year was three. Bailey chipped
in with two. We know Cameron's always a constant threaders
at mid size Ford and they were Yeah, they got
a dominant performance out of Hugh mcclougach over thirty or

(46:44):
touches Neil with thirty one, and at one stage it
looked like it was going to be one hundred point
March and Richmond hung in there a little bit late.
But they've got some work to do. The Tigers, they
just can't seem to get a level of consistency where
they're getting repeat, repeated wins if I can put it
like that. They love the form of Hopper since coming

(47:06):
across from GW. Look, Taranto was a little bit down.
Quiet night for Jack Rewatt wasn't it couldn't really get involved.
But you know, from a Richmond point of view, Brent
sam Banks must be awfully close to getting a game.
He was first emergency.

Speaker 4 (47:20):
How many works a week the weekend, We've said this
every week.

Speaker 5 (47:23):
Pretty solid. I think eighteen touches yesterday for the VFL.
So let's hope he debuts on Thursday night against Sydney.
He must be some sort of a chance because Richmond now,
in terms of what that does to them on the ladder,
they're currently on twenty six, so there's still only a
game out of the eight. But if Bulldogs and Essen

(47:44):
and win today. Well then it makes a task a
little bit harder. But yeah, we'll see how that one
plays out. And we've mentioned obviously Sidney last night against
the Cats was a low scoring game. Air the ugly
game to watch to be honest. But in the end, Gee,
you need to talk about Blakie. He's having a stunning
season for Sydney. I reckon he's going to be top

(48:06):
two or three in their best and first away. He's
playing twenty nine possessions, just playing with great run and
flare and carry. They giving the ball at every opportunity.
He's got that piercing left foot high meters gains.

Speaker 4 (48:18):
The way he goes about it, yeah, absolutely start about that.
Let's go to today's games for Round sixteen. The early
game is in Adelaide between North Melbourne and the Crows.
Adelaide will start red hot favorites here obviously went down
in a tight battle with Collinwood last week. North Melbourne
showing it glimpses, aren't they, but probably won't win this

(48:40):
one this safter Nay.

Speaker 5 (48:40):
No, I don't think so. Adelaide. I think we'll turn
this in a couple of years time. Will we're talking
about how they're probably got the greatest home ground advantage.
I think they're tracking really really well for a real
tilt at a premiership in a couple of years. To
be honest, sprend a really lot the way they're going aback.
They'll be disappointed they didn't win last week. The Kangaroos
do get Davi's uniac back, but it'll be a tough

(49:01):
ass for them over in Adelaide today, you'd think they
are crazy to win that one easily.

Speaker 4 (49:07):
Your dogs this afternoon a very important game against Freemantle
at Marvel Stadium. They'll start favorites here. Freeman hard to
get a read on it. They at the moment, they're
up and down like yoyo.

Speaker 5 (49:16):
Yeah they are. They get ash back in. I thought
they had a terrific win against Essendon last week, one
of their better wins for the inn of their dogs
coming off a win against North Ilben perhaps not that
convincing in the way they went about it. Cody Weightman
with six goals was dominant. So the record as we
know Brendan, it's been much publicized for teams coming back
after the bye. Doesn't give you much optimism from a

(49:40):
Western Bulldogs fan but they just have to win today,
particularly they play Collingwood next week. So Freemantle, dare I
say it it's an eight point game? But Freeman of
course beat the Dogs last year in the final and
the Dogs had a good win over against free earlier
on this season. So Roy lob against his old team.
All what happened earlier on in the year that we

(50:03):
believe it was around the commentary. Wasn't it that he
might have sat around the coaches and gave them a
bit of a clip so the players got to And
there's a bit of talk too that in the media
about Pierce Sprint that he's not the right person to
be captain and friend Football Club has out a bit harsh.
I seemed to be this push to push Sarong or Brayshaw. Yeah,
probably hasn't isn't having his best he's in Pierce, But

(50:26):
I would have thought he's a highly respected There's.

Speaker 4 (50:29):
A reason why he got the job in the first place,
isn't there? Hey, Gold Coast Colin, I think it's a
sellout on the Gold Coast this afternoon you got the
number one ranked team versus the number tenth ranked team.
And I don't know if Colin would have it all
their own way in this game. Gold Coast have been
pretty good not tipping him. I'm not tipping him, but.

Speaker 5 (50:44):
Too much respect for the Pies. Yes, didn't Tick Miller
was back for gold Coast. I think that had really
tightened it up. But Colin was just playing so well,
aren't they. I thought that Dekos Brothers were stunning last
week and that in that win over the Crow they
just find a way to win those close games. But
it's yeah, it'll be a really interesting game for gold Coast.

(51:06):
They won't start as favorites, but plenty of people give
them a real chance in that game. Essendon versus Port
Adelaide Brent at the mcg Essendon needs to respond after
disappointing week against Freemantle, probably one of their worst performances
of the year, so you give them a much again
for that. I think they're tracking really nicely under Brad.
It's got a lot of people resigning and showing confidence.

(51:28):
They need to sign Mason Redmond, who ironically is being
courted by Adelaide clubs. But Port Adelaide they're having a
ripping season, aren't they.

Speaker 4 (51:37):
Well, this is where they're coming off the buy gets
interesting for me, Brandy, because we know Port's one eleven
in a row. They go to the MCG against a
team that's having a good season in Essendon. They want
to bounce back after that poor performance last week. So
this is almost game of the round for me, This one,
I reckon. It's going to be a cracker and Port
just you know, they don't get on the MCG as
often as i'd like, and that's where they're going to
have to win the Grand Final if they playoff in it.

(51:59):
So this is a big game that I reckon.

Speaker 5 (52:00):
Yes, very interesting to see how that plays. I think
Essendon just for mine in a bit of an upset.
I think bounced back at mc G. Joe Menzi is
having a good seasons for Esiden. The way he's tracking
looks like he's going to end up with twenty five
thirty goals for the season. If you can take the
story gretas a great story Hawthorne Carlton Brent, if you
just said, what are we up to round sixteen, it'd

(52:22):
only be a game and a half between those two
teams at the beginning of the year.

Speaker 4 (52:26):
Amazing, Yeah, really, isn't it? What Hawthorne did with its
list et cetera. We all know what's happened there, and
you're right for them to be just that far away
from Carlton's unbelievable so.

Speaker 5 (52:36):
Tracking pretty well the Hawks so and the way they're going.

Speaker 4 (52:39):
Disappointing last week, but we're going to say that, aren't
we With a young team, you have big good games
in your bad games.

Speaker 5 (52:43):
They are and I think they knew that coming into
the season. But if they can, you know, speak out
six or seven wins for the season and narrow the
gap between some of those bad inconsistency performances which we've seen.
Carlton we know, had a big win two weeks ago.
So they're coming off for the buyer. They bet Gold Coast,
so they're coming off that buy again.

Speaker 4 (53:04):
Ye came from the Blues, isn't it known about that?
We'll go to the Red Center for tomorrow's other game
at three twenty at Alice Springs Melbourne and GWS.

Speaker 5 (53:14):
This will be picking GWS Springs.

Speaker 6 (53:16):
I really am.

Speaker 5 (53:17):
I really like the way they're going about this season.
I think there's a lot to like about them. And
if you were to say to me, who's a team
that could probably surge up and make the eight next year.
They would be the one that I would choose. At
the moment. I think they've had six wins. Their percentages
only the percentages ninety seven, which shows they're competitive in

(53:38):
most games. And we've said a few times in this
Shaw they've really been blown out and I think just
a neutral ground there, I say up at Ali Springs
and I think they can cause an upset Melbourne. What's
going on with Clayton no ollive. You just can't seem
to get him.

Speaker 4 (53:51):
No, and he's had such a good career as far
as injuries go. This is his first one really and
it's keeping him out for a long time. So they'd
love to get him back.

Speaker 5 (54:00):
You've been being on about Melbourne. They need to give
Ben Brown an opportunity because his form at the beginning
of the season before he got injured was really good.
I think nine or ten goals after three rounds and
he gets he's back in the team. This week's all
the best for Ben Brown.

Speaker 4 (54:14):
Do we talk about the last game or not?

Speaker 5 (54:16):
Well, we'll cut to the chase sprint on this West
Coast have been awful. They were terrible, worse than all around.
Last week weren't they when they were beaten by one
hundred and seventy one points. Well, it kept to you
because he's really tough. When you're a passionate supporter like
you and your team puts in a performance like that.

(54:37):
It was the lack of effort, wasn't It was highlighted
by shot that was the gas the yeos. The Kellys
has had a really good season and probably leading West
Coast best in faris. But she looked this spirited. We
know they've got a long injury list, but I need
to cut to the chase. Is it sustainable for Adam
Simpson to.

Speaker 4 (54:54):
Be about why he's still there? That didn't it? You're
in the week. I think it's going to cost some
seven a million dollars something to get rid of him.
So that's why the positivity is there for him. But
they're cashed up as well.

Speaker 5 (55:08):
Too much in his body language in terms of yeah,
it just looks a little bit defeated. They struggleround back
to COVID. But yeah, a resignation about him, I reckon
when you see some of his commentary and the way
he presents at press conferences looks flat. But he is
a great coach, Premiership coach. Sometimes I think he's damaging

(55:30):
his brand by staying there.

Speaker 4 (55:31):
I agree, and I've been his biggest defender for a
while saying he's the man for the rebuild. But you're right,
he just looks defeated at the moment and sometimes you
just need a fresh voice.

Speaker 5 (55:39):
I don't. I don't think he'll be there come next year.
But we'll see what happens with the payout. But respectfully,
I don't think you want to be the next coach
of West Coast.

Speaker 4 (55:48):
You don't exactly.

Speaker 5 (55:49):
I'm happy for you to do it, and you know
that's right. Let you do the hard yard rebuild, almost
like Justin Leppich did and then Chris Fagan there was
yeah there. He was there for a couple of years
when they're coming on the back end, but you always
knew they were going to come good West Coast. I
think a long time Hawaii. You want to be coaching
them in five or six years, not next year.

Speaker 4 (56:09):
That good call. That's our AFL RAP. After this, we
wont up the show with a Good Sport Award and
some news from us. That's next year on the water
Boys doing it all thanks to tas back your local
Cobota dealer.

Speaker 6 (56:20):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (56:24):
Thanks to tas back your local Cabota dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costela on Cambrewn.

Speaker 1 (56:28):
He's been doing the hard yas this week thanks to McDonald's,
it's time to announce the next winner of the water
Boys Good Sport Awards.

Speaker 4 (56:34):
This is that we get to look after someone doing
a wonderful job in the local sporting community thanks to
McDonald's fancy juicy chicken covered in crispy mouthwatering spicy coating.
Try them spicy range at macas they went one hundred
dollars to spend at Interosport Brownie. Who's that winner this week?

Speaker 5 (56:50):
A winner this week is Matilda James Brent or Tilly
as she's known by her family and friends. Now. Matilda
is from Tranmere. Her sport is orienteering us the challenge
of tackling various courses and trying to improve her best time.
So congratulations to Tilly Jones, this week's winner of the
Good Sport Award Print.

Speaker 4 (57:09):
Don't Tilly you win one hundred dollars suspend it into
sport thanks to McDonald's fancy juicy chicken covered in crispy mouthwatering,
spicy coding try them spicy range at Macas. And if
you'd like to donate someone for our Good Sport Award,
head to the website of the stage you're listening to
us on right now. It could be a player, it
could be a coach, it could be a volunteer, anyone
doing a wonderful job in a local sporting community. Well, Bradie,

(57:38):
it's a difficult day for you and I because unfortunately
I've had to make the very difficult decision to leave
the water Boys after twelve years here with you, of course,
so this is our last show together. I've got one
more next week, but you'll be away unfortunately, so I'll
be with the big sheephead Blair Brownless. But this means

(57:58):
it's it for us. I just wanted to say it's
going to be very, very tough not to do this
anymore on a Saturday morning with you. Maybe you talk
first so I can get myself together.

Speaker 5 (58:10):
No, thank you, Brent, and all the very best in
your future professional endeavors. But yeah, yeah, in all seriousness,
I've absolutely loved my time in the water Boys with
you over a long long time now, and to get
the opportunity to talk sport and the friendship that we
built up over this time, and hopefully you know the

(58:31):
chemistry and our viewers have connected with a little tazzy program.
It's been a great join and a great thrill. But
it's humbling for me because I've said this a number
of times. I rock in on a Saturday morning and
you put the run set together, You've organized everything, and
I just come along and try and add a little
bit here and there. So a sincere thanks to you

(58:54):
for your friendship over this journey. So and I'm sure
we'll catch up and stages and we'll certainly make sure
that works. But yeah, it's been a delight and a
pleasure to work with you. And you need to know
just how highly respected you are in the industry by
all people. No one's ever got a bad word about you, Brenton.

(59:14):
You'd be one of the most genuine nice guys that
I've ever met. In my brain, So it'll be, yeah,
a sad and a bit flat. Obviously it's out the
studio in a few minutes. But yeah, thoroughly enjoyed working
with you over this time. So it's been a great
thrill and privilege.

Speaker 4 (59:30):
Oh that's very nice. Thank you so much, and full
credit to you because you came on board without any
media experience back.

Speaker 5 (59:36):
In Steel Shape.

Speaker 4 (59:38):
Absolutely not. You've you've becomet Your footy brain is the
best I know. And hopefully someone taps into that full
time capacity at some point because you've got so much
to offer and people can listen and here just exactly
how much you know about footy. So yeah, I'm going
to miss it. I'm going to miss you. One of
the best bikes I know, that's for sure. But twelve

(01:00:01):
years has been unbelievable. It really has, hasn't it.

Speaker 5 (01:00:04):
And the other thing Brennett's we both love sports, so
it's a great outlet for us to come in on
a Saturday morning and we've done it for so many
years to our shade taking all things sport, and haven't
we had such great buying and generosity from I mean,
we always wanted to be a local sports show and
it's actually branched out at different stages where we've been

(01:00:24):
able to talk to some unbelievable sports people nationally internationally.
But just the response and support that we've had from
local sport industry and individuals and coaches players of the
like to be willing to come along on our show,
and hopefully we've been able to support them and there's

(01:00:44):
been some mutual benefit along the way.

Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
Absolutely, and you know, to bring up five hundred shows
was great earlier this year. One thousand individual guts I
think we've had over the journey. So it's been so
much fun, so many memories, of course, and yeah, it's
going to be tough, and hopefully the show go on
anyway without me. It means a lot to me, the
show obviously, so I want to see it's thrive into
the future, and I'm sure it will. How do we

(01:01:08):
how do we end this?

Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
I don't know you and I'll go and have a coffee,
won't we?

Speaker 4 (01:01:11):
Yeah, I think so. I think that's a good idea.
Let's wrap it up now. Thanks everyone for listening, and
we'll see you next week. I'll be back with Blair,
just without Brainy. That's have a great week and everyone
enjoy the footy today if you're heading along, and we'll
catch you next Saturday morning.
