Speaker 1 (00:00):
No matter what they're sport, where it's playing, or the
teams behind it, We've got it.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
Thanks to Tasmak, Devinpord, Montston, Bridgewater.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
And Smifton, your local Caboda dealer.
Speaker 5 (00:13):
I can't believe it. This is the last time I
will say this. Good morning everyone, and welcome to the
water Boys for another super Saturday of sport. Brent Costello here.
It is my final show, which I'm absolutely gutted about.
It's been a long journey. Blair brownless but lovely to
see you this morning.
Speaker 6 (00:32):
Yes, good morning, Brene. And these are tings of sadness,
real sadness because your contribution to this show over twelve years.
Twelve year contribution. I've done the research. We've had five
hundred and twenty four shows, Brene, and you have featured
in four hundred and eighty two of those shows. Right,
so you only miss the forty two shows. And I'm
(00:54):
not even sure about that. I believe you missed forty two.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
I would be surprised if I did. We'll have to
check that.
Speaker 6 (01:00):
That's interesting. Yeah, that's a lot, But how does it
feel for you? Because it's mixed emotions, You're going on
to a new exciting opportunity. But your contribution here to
this very show has been outstanding.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Thank you, Larry. I appreciate that. Yeah, really mixed feelings
this morning. We really want to have some fun this morning,
so I don't want to get to bogged down the
emotion of it all, not.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
The final second.
Speaker 7 (01:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Look, I'm really not looking forward to that, to be
brutally honest, but we'll get there. We'll have some laughs
along the way, So looking forward to that. But we've
got to talk sport as well, because there's plenty going on.
A good win for Collingwood last night, came from behind
again thirteen to eleven eighty nine to the Bulldog's eleven
eleven seventy seven. The cricket delicately paused, isn't it exactly right?
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Now? Australia League by one hundred and forty two. They're
in front with six wickets that are left. So Travis Head,
Mitch marsh at the crease. They really need to build
a partnership here. And you think if they get another
one hundred and fifty or so about two ninety in front,
I don't think England can chase that down on a
wearing pitch.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Yeah, it'd be tough for Pat Cummins two six for
ninety one, Ben Stokes eighty he made for the Poms.
So all set up there for day three only day three.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
It's amazing, unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Yeah, a quick game NRL. Last night we saw the
Canberraders thirty six defeats and Georgia Lawarra twenty six and
all our NBO one teams are in action. Overnight. The
Chargers men had a massive win against Mount Gambia to
keep their finals hopes alive, one hundred and two to
eighty seven. Our Charges women went down eighty one to
ninety nine against Mount Gambia. The Towns had a really
good win against Keelare eighty seven to sixty five, and
(02:34):
the Thunder went down to key Law's men's side ninety
two to seventy seven. As I said bb I really
would love to have a lot of fun today with
this show, so we'll do that in the second hour.
But the first hour we've got some big name guests
coming up, but first we'll do the week that was
though Jordan Crawford will join us that the new jack
Jumpers in Port. He looks so exciting. Yes, what is
here five something, five six or something amazing? Ye, it
(02:59):
is g you can play look at his whole lots
seen him.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
You've brought something this one. I was in Banks taboot
on Thursday night, had a terrific taboo. And so we'll
catch up with Sammy, see how the recoverage going. And
and Geezy did meet the street already. It was after
the game seven time, so long came in. Yeah, came in.
He wasn't too keen to get the parancy. Nextly say,
(03:24):
but they came in. They're fantastic people, just new Oakland's
country folk.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
Yes, exactly right now. I wanted to bring some stuff
out of the last show, so I'd spent eight hours
in the car. Yes, data ensure that we got Andrew Dillon,
Gila McLaughlin, our new chair of the tasmani AFL team
Grade Bryan on the show. Damian Gil join us as well.
And you've taken over the last part of the show.
So I don't know what's coming.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
But normally I sit here and do nothing. To sit
on the other side and Cameron Brown and I we
get We've had an armchair ride from his Brene for
twelve years, and I've decided to take matters in the
main and so I've got a little segment there and
include a couple of questions to you and a couple
of highlight packages. I've got there chopped up film.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Okay audio, he chopped up the film.
Speaker 7 (04:12):
Have you?
Speaker 5 (04:13):
I look forward to watching that. That'll be good. That's
want to come for you on the water Boys over
the next couple of hours. So good to see something's
never change. We're back with the week that was next
thanks to Taes back your local Cabota dealer.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
This's the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
Thanks to tas Back your local Cobota dealer. It's the
water Boys with Brent Coo Celo and Blair brownlet.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
On score from the past seven days.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Here's the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
And happening locally, nationally and internationally. Want to start with
Trey Armstrong, who has declined his development player contract with
the jack Jumpers. Caught me off guard during the week. Yeah,
he was announced back in May, I think, and yeah,
a couple of months on he.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
Had a better offer. But it's not that well, I.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Know he wants a break from basketball. It's a chance
to recharge it. And you know he's been in the
college system for four years, race back home and played
the NBA one season with the Northwest Thunder. So you
can see how it can all catch up with you.
So I believe he's going to go on a holiday
potentially and hopefully you land somewhere next year.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
And he's a young man, he'll be back at some
stage for sure.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
Which exact right now? What is going on at your
football club plays the Clarence Football Club. We've seen the
coach suspended for a game. He won't be coaching against
North Habar, now know what's happening?
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Please? Well, I think he'll be outside on Ryde Street
with the phone and trying to give some messages, peering
over the face. But he got two weeks actually and
reduced to one with an early plea Peter Ryan the coach,
So the game got a little bit fiery. I noticed
that Nick Payne was the run of the former players
and brother of Tim. He got two weeks reduced to
(05:46):
one as well for a bit of abusive language there too.
So not great leadership was it when you got your
coach firing? But I know I've been in the coaching
situations a lot, and you did get a little bit heated.
You just got to keep that under check.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
So what's the official statement from the Past Players Association
on that?
Speaker 6 (06:04):
You Well, if you talk to a lot of our members,
i'd say, oh, bloody umpires, I deserved.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
You can't say that.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
Not officially. Officially, of course, we were fully supported the
umpires and Peter will he'll copy his whack and he'll
be back next week.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Now, something slid across my desk this week. Did I
want you to tell me if this is true or not?
I said, no, this can't be. It cannot be true.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
Well, it's made up, I can tell already.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
Is this correct? Right? The Tazzy Boys big game last week.
Queens in the room preparing for the game before the bounce.
Some big head walks in before the game as they're
preparing one of the biggest games of their life and says, boys,
listen up, come to the pav after the game. Is
(06:57):
that true or not?
Speaker 6 (06:59):
It was funny walked into the ground.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
This is your bar for those who don't know, and.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
I went past the tassy changer and said there's a
couple of boys standing at the door, and I said,
good guys, and I'll just pop in and have a
look and see how the preparations were just before the
first bouncing. Yeah, Jakie hin though, I'm going to shout
out to him. He had a great game, kicked the
big going last quarter. He promised me he was coming
into the bar, and we set aside tables and VIP
(07:26):
treatment and they didn't rock up. No, they didn't go elsewhere.
They finished at six.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
They didn't come anywhere near your joy.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
Well, I'm glad they did it because it was packed Brene.
They wouldn't have fitted in.
Speaker 8 (07:39):
I was not.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
When I heard that laugh, I thought, no, that's that's right.
He would have done that for sure. For sure.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Just checking the vibe was magnificent. Since I got in there,
I thought, wow, this has got a big game feel
and I've never experienced that in about the last ten
years or so at nor Hobart. You know, that real
big game feel for a local game. So it was fantastic.
Seven one hundred. Obvious support for the new stadium, which
(08:05):
was great, but the game was terrific. It was hotly
contested and then there was some individual brilliance, wasn't there
from Sam Siggins and hein kicking that goal as well.
So absolutely loved it.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Brent, just back on that so that you know what
ja con said. You will come along, mate. It was
to get rid of you, to get out of there.
He did not belong in the rooms hangar Honora.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
Yeah, no, no. The support the boys are just a
little couple of bits of advice about.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Did you ever wear the mouth?
Speaker 6 (08:34):
No, I get out of there.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
There, you don't belong in there. Nowhere near is.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
I wanted to take it that with Andy Bennett. He
didn't pick me one year, That's what I really. What's
the beef about? Yes, goodness, I couldn't play as well.
They had something to do.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
With good news for the Hurricanes. During the week, Tim
David and Ben McDermott both resigned, So two key planks
my word to the Purple Army.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Well, it's important because Ben mcdermot's gone back to Queensland
but he's very very happy to state the Hurricane and
Tim David, yes, well he's he's in the national team,
so he's very important.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Absolutely no doubt about Gee, this AFL player pick things
a concern, isn't it.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
We'd like to say a few jokes about this one,
but we're not funny. Massive forty five players. How on
earth people got access to an AFL Google drive with
this information includes premiership players Brownlow Medalistable and local player
Tasmanian players too possibly.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
You think, yeah, no, it's very concerning in the bud
and sort it out because yeah, very great.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
You cancel it out once that's true.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Yeah, I mean that, you know, the people get punished
for what they've done because player shouldn't have to put
up with that. If it if it was done in the.
Speaker 6 (09:52):
Right way, that's private information.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Exactly.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
Unbelievable, that's out Shane Bean Gisberg.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
And how about him just whens the NASCAR in his
first outing, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
That is unbelievable. Wins the NASCAR event. Now that's a
left hand drive, Okay, So then he comes back to
the v touring cars and gets back in the right
hand drive as well. But he has to be one
of the great athletes in our country or he's actually
in New Zealander. But going around to be able to
do that is remarkable, isn't that?
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Absolutely good mates with Max for Stappen too tight.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
Was very happy with his efforts.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
Absolutely did you know.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
One stage he was eighteenth in that race and NASCAR
race twenty laps to go he was eighteenth.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Amazing, sacred we through.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
And win that. That's extraordinary thought.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
You're on the brook.
Speaker 6 (10:40):
Take it easy, band on there. But yeah, back for
Townsville this weekend with the v eights.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
Yes, wow, and were done to to our under eighteen
hockey boys have gone through undefeated to today's semi final
against South Australia. So you back him in to win
that and then imagine winning that in your home state.
That's fantastic.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
That's really cool and a special shout out. And now
I'm a deputy principal at Guildford Young College. The six
six players from the Guildford Young team. Can you imagine
them as a hockey team the school one including Jack
Pritchard and Ruben Howey the co captains. But they have
been undefeated and any time we go to nationals and
we beat the likes in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland,
(11:20):
it's a great thing. So good luck to the boys
in that game.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Absolutely, and shout out to the girls as well. They
finished fifth in pool being playing off for night today
against the Northern Territory a bit later on this morning.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
You've got to beat Northern Territory girls. Yeah, there's a
site act and Northern Territory. You've always got to beat them.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
That is the week that was. We've got a big
jam packed agenda this morning. The big Dogs will join us.
Gill the Mcloughlandrew Dylon and Grand O'Brien who have been
a big part of our Tasmanian AFL push, Damien Gil
not too far away, and also Sam Banks from Richmond.
Up next, we talked to the new hot recruit from
the Jack Jumpers, Jordan Crawford. He's up next here on
the water Boys. All thanks to Taz Mac your local
(12:01):
Combata dealer.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
He's the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
Thanks to tas Mack, your local Combata dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Cortelo and Blair Brownless. Our
next guest I believe will become the next cult figure
at the jack Jumpers. He's small in stature but his
game is enormous. So I speak of Jordan Crawford who's
been good enough to join us on the water Boys
(12:28):
this morning. Welcome to the show. Jordan, Thank you lovely
to talk to you. First of all, tell us what
the attraction was of coming to Australia and landing at
the jack Jumpers.
Speaker 9 (12:37):
I'm just you know, talking with the club and how
professional was and you know, the process going through and
seeing what they're all about and what they stand for,
you know, their blue collar, hardworking team, defense and getting
after it. So I think that's a great opportunity to
come over and play and play in that style.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
For those that don't know, just give us a bit
of a rundown of your basketball journey.
Speaker 9 (13:00):
Yeah, this is my this will so coming over there
will be starting my tenth year. I played my first
year in Cyprus, three years in the States with west
Chester Knicks for two years and Memphis Hustle, and then
I played in Germany, uh France, and then three years
(13:25):
in Turkey.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Yeah, fantastic. For those that haven't seen you on the
court as well, just describe what sort of apply.
Speaker 10 (13:31):
You I I think I bring. Leadership is the first thing.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
You know.
Speaker 9 (13:36):
I like to play fast, get up and down, you know,
get after it.
Speaker 10 (13:41):
Even on the defensive end.
Speaker 9 (13:43):
You know, I can score the ball past the ball,
and I think I think when people watch me, they
see like that I enjoy what I'm doing, Like I
love what I what I'm doing and playing, so I
like to play with.
Speaker 10 (13:56):
You know a lot of enthusiastics.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
What about the jack jumpers in the NBL itself? For me?
Tyking an interesting knows he basketball? Now that you know
you're coming.
Speaker 9 (14:03):
Here, Yeah, I haven't seen much before until you know,
we started to talk. I started to do my research
and you can tell it's a physical league. You know,
they play super fast, they get up and down, super
talented every team and and I love the atmosphere, especially
(14:26):
the fans you can watching.
Speaker 10 (14:28):
I watched a few games and just how loud the
crowd is, how involved they are. It looks so much
fun to play in.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
Start jack jumpers in port Jordan Crawford is our special
guest on the water Boys this morning. Jordan, you were
recently the host points score in the Turkish League. This
sign like the Milton Doyle plays. He now that you
had to chat to melt about He's talking about jack
jumpins and hey help you get out of the lawn.
Speaker 9 (14:52):
Oh yeah, for sure. He was the first person I
reached out to. I've known him for a while from
playing in the G League against each other. We played
Summer league together with Portland two years in Turkey against
each other, so we develop a relationship off the court.
So once, once I had a chance to come here,
(15:14):
it's almost a no brainer to join him. And same
with Marcus as well, trying to recruit him in Turkey
last year to play with me.
Speaker 10 (15:22):
Now I finally get a chance to play with him
as well.
Speaker 9 (15:25):
Super exciting player, locking shots, running the floor, catching lobs.
Speaker 10 (15:28):
So I'm so excited to play with them guys.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
And then Jack Jumper is a real family come and
I have got a ward from the daughter. Will I
be coming out to Australia with you?
Speaker 10 (15:36):
Yeah? My wife she always comes each season.
Speaker 9 (15:40):
She's my she's my number one fan and and helps
me out a lot, you know, off the court stuff
and just you know the long the long nights and
you know, tough practices. She's always making it easy for
me and being there for me. And then my daughter, Yes,
she stays home. She's in high school. She lives with
my mom and dad. She has she's a three star athlete,
(16:01):
so you know she's busy, busy, busy.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Absolutely. Now, just finally, when are we likely to see
you out here in Tasmania?
Speaker 9 (16:09):
Hopefully first week in August I should be out there.
So I'm excited, super excited.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
As we Jordan Crawford. We've seen your highlights and we
can't wait to see you bring them to Tasmania playing
live at My State Bank Arena and the Silverdame of
course for the mighty jack Jobbers. Have a safe journey
out here when you do come, and we look forward
to seeing it in Tasmania as you say, early next month.
All right, thanks b There he goes, Jordan Crawford joining
us on the water Boys. Can't wait to see him,
strudy stuff Blarry at My State Bank Arena and the
(16:38):
Silverdame this coming season.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
Exactly how many points will the average Breno?
Speaker 5 (16:43):
Well, you just won, as I said, the leading points
scorer over there in Turkey, so I reckon he'll be yeah,
between twenty twenty five a game hopefully, and that's what
we need from that point gap. We can't wait for him. Now.
We know we do this at the end of the show,
but let's say give it her as now.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
It's been doing that hard guys.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
This week, thanks to McDonald's, time to announce the next winner.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Of the water Boys Good Sport Award.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
We do love this segment. Thanks to McDonald's and the
New Spicy Sticky Barbecue angers at maccas. It's a great
day to be hungry. Available after ten thirty for a
limited time. The winner of our good Sport Award wins
one hundred dollars to spend it at Interosport Blarry. Who's
our winner this week.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
Well, the winner this week is in the running world
and it's Marina Maxwell. And she's an inspiration because she's
consistently helping out the younger age group's train while consistently
putting in her own best efforts as her self as
an athlete. So congratulations to Marina Maxwell.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
I'm Marina. You win one hundred dollars to spend it
into sport thanks to McDonald's and the new spicy sticky
barbecue angus at Macas. And if you'd like to nominate
someone for our good Sport Award, head to the website
of the station and listening to us on right now
and nominate them. It could be a player, it could
be a coach, it could be a volunteer or anyone
else doing a wonderful job but in the local sporting community.
As we said, a massive showerhead this morning not too
(17:55):
far away is head of AFL Tasmania and former co
host of the water Boys. So Damian Gil looking forward
to chatting to Gilly. But up next we're going to
go and look at our Richmond Football Club debutante from
Thursday night, Sami Banks. He joins us after this here
on the water Boys doing it all thanks to tas
Back your local Commota dealer.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
This here's the water Boys, thanks.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
To taes Back your local Commota dealer. It's the water
Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless from Tiger Well.
This is awesome. On Thursday night we got to see
the deboo another tas manion in the AFL. Finally, finally,
how long we've been talking about this, Sam Bank's going
to get a d It's finally happened, which was great
(18:38):
news and performed so well on the big stage. Semi Banks,
Welcome to the water Boys mate. Great to talk to you, mate.
I love watching it the other night and the phone
call to your parents as well during the week. They
do it so well. The AFL clubs is a bit
How were your Thursday mate? And the lead up obviously
a night game that the tay drags on for you
probably just want to get out there, but what would
(19:00):
you do to keep yourself occupied? I suppose on Thursday.
Speaker 11 (19:03):
Yeah, exactly right. But I was pretty nervous during the
day and having a seven twenty game didn't help anything either,
trying to fill in the day. But had had a
family and friends over, so I actually caught up with it,
caught up with them for breaky in the morning, and
then I caught up with Nick Boston for Quick Bite
Dat for lunch, and I was about it really killed
(19:23):
in probably enough time during the day to take your
mind off things. And then yeah, got to the ground
a bit earlier, see the family and get the jump
of presentation done and stuff, and yeah, it was an
unbelievable night.
Speaker 6 (19:34):
That certainly was. And then when you strolled on to
the MCG and those first few minutes you thought, wow, well,
what did it feel like the difference between playing VFL
and AFL.
Speaker 11 (19:46):
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was probably took me a
half to be honest, where to pick up how quick
the game was being in the first half or getting
you good sports and get the footy and stuff. But
I was sort of probably wasn't used to how quick
the game was. Had a couple of coaches came through
a half time said mate, just when you get the footage,
just settle down. You know how to play the game,
and give you a bit more confidence. I felt like
(20:08):
in the second half I sort of it didn't get
used to it more and felt a lot more comfortable.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
You certainly did. And what about that moment you had
with Buddy Franklin running into an open goal? Was Buddy
Franklin then you knocked the ball through and got it
off him and then kicked it in. That must've given
you a great confidence.
Speaker 11 (20:26):
Yeah, sure did. It was well lucky to be involved
in a big moment in the game or guessing to
be able to impact was unreal. Yeah. It was a
bit funny walk supporter growing up, and Buddy was probably
one of my heroes and with him and at the
g was it was pretty special.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Pretty special, all right. But now Brenda already talked about
the lead up and it's great that they get you
on film calling your parents who are wonderful people there
from Oatlands. And then after the game too, Sam, jeez,
you had a lot of time on Channel seven. That
was a long interview, was a fantastic interview.
Speaker 11 (21:03):
Yeah, yeah, I had a little bit of meet you
to do after the game, which was good. One of
the one of the ladies from the club said get
over there with Richard and Haamish and here we go.
And went over there and started talking and they mentioned
bringing mum and dad over and again worked out all right,
So yeah, I was happy to do that.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
How about getting a win to Sam? Obviously, anytime you
make your debut is awesome, but to get that win
in such a close game must have been a really
good feeling too.
Speaker 12 (21:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (21:33):
Absolutely, win always elks and it was a pretty big
win to the club. That one probably probably kept us
riding right in the hunt the finals. And yeah, like
mini to show conference only may but Jacob Bealler giving
us a give us a crack at a pretty big
game for the club was unreal.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
And what about the gatorade sharer and the circle for
the soul mate. It's become a real tradition now on
the AFL. How was that moment?
Speaker 11 (21:58):
Yeah, that was that was special. Bloody cold at the time,
I'll tell you, but.
Speaker 12 (22:04):
It was unreal.
Speaker 11 (22:05):
All the boys getting around you, it's very special.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
Now, Sam just reminds about your football journey because it's
a great story. He started a great country kid from
Oatlands and then you spend a bit of time at Crell,
didn't you, Currell Junior Footy Club, and then made your
way out to Clarence.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Yep.
Speaker 11 (22:23):
Yeah, so when I when I started footy or I
played up with the Central Hawks for about I think
I played underrate for three years there and then went
down to Thrill for three years and then at the
end of mine to twelve year I got told to
go and played for a state league. It's affiliated sort
So yeah, that's when I went to Clarence on under
(22:43):
thirteen's right through until I got drafted. So that was
a journey for me.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
It's a great journey. But now I want you to
think about this carefully. What's been a bigger highlight playing
last Thursday night mcg or the Guild for the Young
Cola Sartis Grand Final where we had thirty four possessions
against Saint Pat's which was a bigger occasion.
Speaker 11 (23:09):
Hopefully. I think we both know there might order trying
to get a bit of credit.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
He does it every week. So I'll tell you what
everyone's I didn't know that many people actually went to
Guildford Young College. It's amazing how many people were on
there next week mate, you've got you got my mob.
Actually the West Coast legal was over at up to
study looking forward to that.
Speaker 11 (23:27):
Yeah, it's always it's always good to get away. Went
over the first couple of weeks ago emergency for the
pre game and the wayips always good fun. So you
can't rea to get over there and give you eagles.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Well very nicely, you've got something else be there before,
just a quick one.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
Now. It has been a fair way because we thought
you were in formed, like we said, for about two
months now. But when you look at the wings at
the Tigers, you got picked on one side and Macintosh
on the other side. It was and that's where you've
been playing a lot of footy, Sam, So it's been
a it's been a long time coming really that your deboot.
Speaker 11 (24:02):
Yeah, yeah, I'll probably watch raft as a half back
because you know there the shung me out on the
wing pretty quickly early on and I played a lot
of footy there and then probably didn't happen until a
month ago. I sort of went after the coaches and
asked what do I need to do toppening and they said, oh,
we've probably like to see a bit more and half back.
(24:23):
So yeah, yeah I went. I went back there and
probably played some of the best footy I as since
I've been to the club. And yeah so I'll just
get could perform a trade there and yeah lucky enough
to can't come on Thursday night, so yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
Well mate, we love watching. It was awesome crack and
I'm sure to start of a long and a lasteous
ifl career. We can't wait to see the journey on
fild mate. Thanks so mutually giving up some of your
time for us on the water Boys this morning. And
all the very best moving forward, mate.
Speaker 11 (24:51):
No, I very much, Frent and Blaire and all the
best friend was last show today, So unbelievable joke from here, mate,
and all the best with it.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
Thanks much appreciated mate. And you know what, that's one
of the high lots of my job, to be honest
saying blokes like Sam come through from a young age
getting drafted following their journey. That's nothing in top of that.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
It can't. It's a great story as we see from
Oatlands and he played Central Hawks, yeah, underage and through
to Surrel to Clarence. It is a great story. He's
a great person. Sandbanks and absolutely he's a fine leader.
I know we talked about Guildford young but he was
an excellent student as well. He had all bases covered sandbanks.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
Very good. All right, we're going to push on with
a show. Now, we're going to talk more footy next
when Damian gil join us. He's the head of AFL
TASMANI of course, but also former co host of this
very program. We'll get him in next to Bo on
the water Boys that we all thanks to TAS back
your local Commota Dealer.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (25:49):
Thanks the ta's back your local Combota Dealer. It's the
water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless. Massive day
yesterday in Penguin on the Northwest coast park Doll Parks.
Have you been to Doll Park? Haven't amazing amazing setup,
so I was good to check that out. But obviously
we have the big wigs in town from the AFL
and we'll hear from them after the news later this hour.
(26:11):
But one man that was also there as the head
of AFL tas money of Damien Gill, and he's also
been a big part of this show over the journey.
So as you welcome you in this morning Gilly, How
are you going?
Speaker 8 (26:23):
Very good?
Speaker 7 (26:23):
Brent, and I just want to acknowledge your hard work
over an extended period on this show. There's been some
funny moments along the way where you weren't at your best,
but throughout you're also wearing your best quite often. You
did a lot of hard work and to be honest
with the show wouldn't have been what it was without you.
So well done and good luck for what comes next.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Thank you, mate, I appreciate that, and thank you for
what you've done over the journey, including the mighty Guillotine
segment which just was the ratings blockbuster? Are you putting
every right under the pump? And I loved it when
he got the job at the AFL, but I had
to just tea things back a little bit. That's when
we had the end of the segment. But yeah, very
(27:05):
I've got some good arcovel stuff. We could probably get
them a great man now we wouldn't get into trouble.
But hey, how good was yesterday? It was a great
day for Tazzy footy up there at Doyle Park and
to a point, Grand O'Brien, who, as I said, we'll
hear from next hour. Just a great appointment, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (27:22):
Yeah, it's been an incredible week for Tazzy footy really,
the after glove of the state game last week and
then into the appointment of grand O'Brien as our normal chair.
And I think Gil described him as a unicorn, and
he is a bit really, you know, from the Northwest Coast.
He's got those deep roots in Penguin. He played a
premiership team there. He's got the business acumen.
Speaker 11 (27:44):
He's a high flyer, he's the Woolworth and he.
Speaker 7 (27:49):
Puts it all together in such a unique package as
the perfect fit for around normal chair. And I knew
he was going to be good. But then yesterday when
he came forward and spoke at the press conference, to
be honest with their hairs were standing up on the
back of my neck. He was inspiring and I've got
a great deal of confidence somewhere we're heading off the
back of his appointment. I'm looking forward to working with him.
Speaker 6 (28:12):
Damien, fantastic appointment. I agree, you could not have got
it better. And I'm really looking forward to what Grande
Brian can do for the new Tasmanian team. I think
it's wonderful, wonderful news. Now you did say it was
a big week because also the Stay game that was unbelievable,
wasn't it wasn't it great to have a massive crowd
there at Norfolk, but seven one hundred people and the
(28:34):
atmosphere was fantastic. The win was sensational as well. You
must have been so rapped with the performance by the team.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
Oh yeah, it was an incredible day. It sort of
felt like the old Devil's days in a way. And
you know, the crowd was just amazing. I took a
little while just at the start, well just pride of
the men's games to walk around the crowd and soak
it up and hearing the taggy chance. Yeah, it was
just it was amazing and awesome. They hear from so
(29:04):
many players post games say that their career highlight or
their biggest moment in their career. It was just fantastic,
And when you have a daylight that day, you go, well,
why haven't we been doing more of this? And I
sort of just yeah, lots a bit of a fuse
for what's to come with VFL and then AFL, and
(29:25):
they put on such a good performance. The crowd were magnificent,
all in the right spirit. The women's before the men's
were actually outstanding as well because Queensland are strong in
women's footy and they really took it up to them
our women. So yeah, all in all, it's just an
outstanding day and really well put together by MAV and
Debout coaches.
Speaker 11 (29:45):
They did a terrific job.
Speaker 6 (29:47):
They certainly did.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
Then.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Actually I was talking to a Queensland official after the
game and they said, don't expect anywhere near this crowd
next year in Queensland.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
They were Wow.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
Factor for them was amazing and so you might get
a couple hundred when you travel up to Queensland and
that's how special that event was. But now back to
Brent Damion, if you don't mind, because you are a
good friend. You're soo head of the AFL task so
you had some a lot of official dealings with Brent.
You're also a former host of the show, so you
(30:17):
did speak about this at the start. But you must
have so many fond memories of his contribution and what
about his actual contribution to sport in this state.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Yeah, he's probably unparalleled in that space in a lot
of respects. He Yeah, no, he's I don't want to
make him.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Well up and cry, but he's not so uncomfortable to.
Speaker 6 (30:37):
He'sational man, Dave.
Speaker 7 (30:39):
Yeah, it is very rare blee that I pay the
great man compliments.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
That's what's unusual.
Speaker 7 (30:47):
The water Boys. It's become a bit of an institution
on a salday. And that's through the hard work of Bren.
I know when I was co hosting, and you'd be
the same way you rock up. You do not a
scherical work exactly. Free's done everything. It's all prepared down
to the finest detail, and you come in, you bluff
your way through a go and he makes you look
good as our roll every time. And yeah, just the
(31:12):
contumment professional is across everything when it comes to Teddy Sport.
And yeah, I'm really happy for him that the next
step is going to be a good one for his career.
I think it's richly deserved. And contribution to Teddy Sport
is massive and stays like yesterday. It's great to see
that he's still in the caper and able to cover
(31:33):
these massive, massive landmark of each because yeah, he's played
a big role through that entire Afil journey and yeah,
what more can you say? Just really really good contribution
through the water Boys, but more broadly to Teddy Sport.
Just phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Thank you DOANM.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
I appreciate it, and I really well said, because you
know in the media world, Damie, that if you get
ahead of themselves, don't they get a bit of the
ego and all that it can happen. But Brendon is
such a humble man, isn't He.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
Probably asking the wrong person.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
It's true, It's.
Speaker 7 (32:07):
True he loves me time, but it doesn't like to
tread on people's toes. I don't know how that worked
come together, but it has. There was a little period
where he did it. Just it got away from me
a little bit of head. It was a bobble when
he started walking around and wearing this wide brimmed hats.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
And for that, actually I do remember that you gave
me the gither his.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
Statement piece that he thought was a good look or something.
It was such an error in judgment. Thankfully he sinned it.
But yeah, I don't know. It was like a calling
car going to go st with a g R or something.
I'm not sure what was.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Going on the problem was I've got a baldhead and
I was trying to protect it.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
That's smart.
Speaker 5 (33:00):
Oh look we've got to get out of here. But
I do appreciate those those colin words, dame, and again
thank you for your contribution over the journey because you
didn't do a few shows and you came in for
all those segments so all off your own back too,
So I appreciate that, mate. And I think you're up
north today, so enjoy the footy and we'll catch up.
Speaker 7 (33:15):
So mate, all the best, Thanks God.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Thanks Damie, Damian Gill, the head of AFL tas lovely,
thank you for coming on and being part of our
the show. It's been been awesome. And that is the
end of the first hour as well. Bear, we've got
lots more to coming quick. We've been a little dog there.
We've got the big dogs coming up next. They give
him Acloughlin, Andrew Dyllon and Grand O'Brien. They are joining
us after news Sporting. We're that to kick off our
(33:38):
two of the water Boys. Don't go anywhere back after this,
no matter.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
What they spot where it's playing, all the teams behind it,
we've got it.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Thanks to Tasmag, Devin Board, Monteston, Bridgewater.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
And Smifton, your local Gaboda dealer.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Big first out of the water boys, but well, I
was going to say big second out, coming up, emotional
second our coming up and anyway, the.
Speaker 6 (34:03):
Last part of this breada will be very very emotional
segment should be okay, but then yes, yes, so.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
How we go. Let's go through the overnight scores. Good
win for Collingwood last night, as you just heard the news,
thirty eleven eighty nine to the Bulldogs eleven eleven seventy seven.
They run us through the cricket bb Well.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
Australia lead by one hundred and forty two with six
wickets left. Travis Head Mitch Marsh at the crease. They
need to build a big partnership here and hopefully give
about three hundred runs in front and then bowl the
English team out and take the series at three.
Speaker 5 (34:34):
Neil very nice ver. Last night it was Cam we're
getting it done over some Georgia Lawira thirty six twenty
six and mixed news for our basketball teams, the Thunder
and the Chargers women's team unfortunately went down. But good
wins to the Chargers men who keep their finals hopes
alive with a big win against mat Gambia and the
Torns were fantastic against Keilore two eighty seven to sixty
five winners. Now, after this we're going to talk to
(34:57):
some very very men hit He was absolutely Gillan McLaughlin Wow,
Andrew Dillon Wow, and Grand O'Bryan. They join us next
here on the water Boys doing it all thanks to
our very good partners at Tasmack, your local Cabota dealer.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
This here's the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (35:15):
Thanks to Tasmak, your local Caboda dealer. It's the water
Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
As Tasmania prepares to be the AFL's nineteenth Club.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Here's the latest from the water Boys.
Speaker 6 (35:25):
Yesterday in Penguin there was a massive announcement and Gil
mcgloughlin was there, Andrew Dyllon and Grant O'Brien. But I
don't think Breno any states has anyone ever had an
interview where Gil and Andrew are in together. And guess what,
our very own Water's Boy, Brent Costello on his final show,
got him together and had a great chat.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
I'm joined by Andrew Dillon and Gila McLoughlin on Tasmania's
Beautiful Northwest Coast here at Dole Park in Penguin And
what's up with you, Andrew. You're coming into the role
obviously and coming in an exciting time with Tasmania just
about the end of the competition. We hope.
Speaker 12 (35:57):
Yeah, it's I'm really exciting. Great to be here today,
TASMANI coming into the competition back on May three, he
was one of the best days I've had him my
twenty three ideas at the AFL and so much excitement
and it's getting palpable now with the appointment of Grant
as the chairman and plenty of work to do, but
really looking forward to it.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
Gilan, no doubt you've been a part of the process
to appoint Great o'brinto the position. What stood out for you?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
I think he really is the perfect combination that he's
a proud Tasmanian with a rich football pedigree. He understands
the game and is still passionate about it. He's a
great leader and his commercial pedigree is there. So the
only question was they really wanted to do it. And
Andrew and I met with him during the week and
(36:41):
there's just no doubt that how passionate and committed is
this role, and you know when you heard and spoke
to him and heard his commitment to it and his
desire for this, and it was sort of really it
was a very easy decision.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
It's obviously plenty of politics playing out here in Tasmania
at the moment, but listening to you at the press
conference earlier, you don't seem panicked at all, and that
would reassure a lot of people I think here in Tasmania.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
I just this is a compelling case for Tasmania. Change
is difficult at times and it has its detractors, but
if you you know.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
If in the end I.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Trust Australians in this case Tasmanians, I trust public leadership
to look through the change and the noise of the
day to get the job done. And this brings huge
amount of money into the state. It actually delivers a
team in a national competition they've always wanted, and it
delivers a huge amount of pride and so those that
(37:37):
combination means. I think it's a pretty compelling proposition, which
was a great confidence in the end it will prevail.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
Andrew, we saw you with the parliamentary inquiry a couple
of weeks ago, and you were adamant that you know
this has to happen for the team to happen, and
there's no room for negotiation, is there.
Speaker 12 (37:50):
No, we've been really clear on that But the thing
we've also been clear on is we want the team
to be competitive. We wanted to be successful and as
Gil alluded to inside Stadium at Macquarie Point is it's
going to be great for the footy club, but it's
great for the state as well. And we've seen the
benefits of it in Adelaide, we've seen it in Perth,
we see it in Melbourne with Marvel Stadium.
Speaker 8 (38:10):
So no, we're really clear.
Speaker 12 (38:12):
On that, but we think we'll book get it for
the success of the team. And as Gil was saying,
we trust the process and we trust that the people
will make the right decisions because it is so compelling.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
How important is it to get some momentum going right
now with the chair appointed now and then I'm talking
about foundation memberships, potentially a bit of merchandise. How important
is that to keep the ball rolling well?
Speaker 12 (38:31):
Twenty twenty eight and AFL terms isn't actually that far away,
So we do need to get started making these important
appointments and start to get the momentum going. We'll be
looking at you potentially entering into the VFL in twenty
twenty five, so there's plenty of work to be done
in a relatively short period of time. So the momentum
is critical.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
Do you think Gil will be out of the role
and let you have a turn by this on Testimonia
enters the competition or do you think you'll be still
hanging around by that.
Speaker 12 (38:53):
I'd love to invite him down here for the first
game in twenty twenty eight. It'll be great.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
Well, the mean to you, Gil, You'll be out of
the picture a long way by that point when Tasmania
runs out. But you've done a power of work with
all this. How proud will you be on that day?
Speaker 3 (39:05):
It's like all the stuff that Andrew will be in
my seat. Certain it's always a team effort and on
behalf of the group of people who work towards this.
You sort of it's not anything individual. If you love
the game and you love what it can do for people,
we'll just you'll be just happy to see Tasmanians be
able to enjoy everything that a team in the National
(39:27):
League brings. The opportunity for family, for opportunity for friends,
the connection. It will change people's lives and that is
a huge reward for the work that so many people
have done to.
Speaker 12 (39:41):
Say the power of work that the Tasmanian task for
Stid the grant was on and Brett Godfrey and James
Henderson and also our team down to Afel Tasmani. You're
led by Damian Gil. We've been working on this for
a number of years. You know, as Gil said, it's
a team effort.
Speaker 5 (39:53):
Well, great to see you both here and Tazi, thanks
for coming down for the announcement. And I do hope
you get a crack at some stage Andrew and the
fellow just slides off with it.
Speaker 6 (40:03):
Great chat, d Brene. But what about your gag there.
That was quite funny. I quite enjoyed it.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Yeah, I thought I'd just throw it, and Gil loves it.
Yeah jokes. You appreciated it that because you then laughing
I think during it.
Speaker 6 (40:15):
Farewell and then he doubled down on it to.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
The well, yes, I did exactly right, So that was good.
Speaker 6 (40:21):
Now that was part one of the terrific unit he had.
And then you also caught up with the new chair
Gran O'Brien and here it is.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
Grand O'Brien, congratulations on the new roll. What's it mean
to you standing here in your old hometown and becoming
the chairman of Tasmania's an a IFL club.
Speaker 13 (40:36):
It's really exciting and hopefully exciting for the state as well.
The elite team that we're starting to build as of
today will of course be something that the whole of
Tasmania can cheer for, but it also means great benefits
for clubs like Penguin, where participation will go up. More
kids will be running around thiss ovel that we're at
today here in Penguin, and that can only be a
(40:57):
good thing.
Speaker 5 (40:58):
Tell us about the process. Is this something you spied for,
you approached? How does this come about that you end
up being the chairman of the team?
Speaker 13 (41:05):
I think it goes to being part of the task
force for the last four years. So we've worked closely
with the AFL in the latter stages of that task
course process, and so when it came time to look
at the board, they were looking for someone that could
bring some continuity from the task force to the building
of the team, and so I was approached and had
(41:25):
a good long think about it. Not really, you know,
who wouldn't want to be involved in something that doesn't
come along very often? That's as important as and exciting
as this is for the state.
Speaker 5 (41:36):
I know you've got a bit on your plate, but
how much time will you have to devote to this
role and how often when we see you're in Tasmania
giving your base in Sydney, Yeah, I'm.
Speaker 13 (41:42):
Down here every two or three weeks, and this will
dictate that that'll continue, probably even more so, but certainly
they'll be fair at a time in Melbourne as well.
Speaker 5 (41:53):
In dealing with the AFL, the.
Speaker 13 (41:55):
Nature of this is that it will be heavy lifting
at the beginning, but as the executive management come on,
then the hands on to the extent that the initial
stages will be well, we'll obviously produce, but we've got
a lot to do and I've made a number of
commitments today to what we're going to achieve by Grand
Final day, so we've got to get our skates on.
Speaker 5 (42:15):
One of those is appointing board members and you've got
a panel in place. Just tell us a bit about
that process and how quickly that will happen.
Speaker 13 (42:21):
It's having the board in place by the end of
August is the objective, and I think we can do
that and we've got a nominations committee that we announced.
Speaker 7 (42:31):
Today of I.
Speaker 13 (42:33):
Think well qualified people to make those selections. Through their
involvement in football and business and sports administration. They will
help us identify the initial board members that have the
skills to really build a startup, which the establishment of
a new club is.
Speaker 5 (42:49):
And obviously there's some negativity here around the stadium, et cetera.
At the moment, what's your message, I guess to those
that are for the project and just to believe, I
suppose it's been the case all along with the Tasimonia Afield.
Speaker 13 (43:00):
Even at the beginning of the process four years ago.
What was clear to me through the involvement of the
public and the media was that everyone wanted a team.
Everyone feels that we're due it, and now we've got
a license and we've got to get on and deliver
that license. So something we've yearned for for decades and
generations is now available to us, and we've got to
(43:21):
take that opportunity while it's there. Not everyone's going to
be afore it. Not everyone barracks for the same football team.
You know, we're different. There are different sections of community.
They're all entitled to their say, but there's a strong
business case. There's a compelling reason to have a stadium
in Hobart that the government have committed to on the
(43:42):
Federal Government of committed to, on the AFL of committed to.
So we've got the money, we've got the license. We
now need to start the work to begin the club
and that's what's happening today.
Speaker 5 (43:52):
Well, no doubt, plenty of work had been exciting times
as well. Grand O'Brien, thanks so much for your time
on the water Boys, and we look forward to talking
to you as the job goes on.
Speaker 13 (44:00):
Thanks really looking forward to to the journey and keeping
everyone engaged in that journey.
Speaker 6 (44:08):
Wow, he's very impressive man, isn't he. Grano Brian our
new chair. We think that Breno, we're in very good hands.
Speaker 5 (44:14):
There absolutely no doubt about that. His resume is absolutely outstanding.
So he is the man to take us forward and
exciting times ahead with the board.
Speaker 6 (44:21):
Being appointed, an exciting time, so look forward to that
all right.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
Now, I don't know what's coming here. You ask for
the last three cents, I'll ask for some time at
the end to thank you. For your people. So the
rests over to you.
Speaker 6 (44:33):
So segments of mine.
Speaker 5 (44:36):
I'll still push the buttons just in case, but you
can take control. That's after this on the water Boys
doing it all thanks to tas Back, your local Kobota dealer.
Here's the water Boys, thanks to tas Back, your local
Kombota dealer. It is the water Boys who the Brent
cost On, Blair brown Less. Now I'm throwing this all
to you. Now you wanted some space here to do
(44:58):
whatever you want to do. Take the reins.
Speaker 6 (45:01):
Now here's some questions without notice. In fact, there is
some notice because during our production meeting, I said, let's
reflect on the show and your twelve year commitment to
the show five hundred and twenty four shows. You've been
in the chair at four hundred and eighty two of
those shows, which is quite remarkable. And so just a
couple of questions to reflect and about some of the
(45:23):
highlights over those many, many years. So first of all, Brent,
who is the biggest international star we've had on the show.
Speaker 5 (45:31):
Well, I'd have to say as far as star power goes,
and biggest name Paddy Mills, I reckon. And that was
a hairy day because We pumped him up all day
saying Patty's after this, and Patty's after this, and he
wasn't answering his phone again. I think we got to
like five to ten and we just got him. And
I think we actually had to go over time on
the show to play the interview because we finally got him.
Speaker 6 (45:52):
But how was he recept it?
Speaker 5 (45:54):
Awesome? Yeah, Ripper, Yeah, as you'd expect.
Speaker 6 (45:57):
That day when you promise something and they don't pick
up the phone.
Speaker 5 (46:03):
To be fair, it's really happened. It's very rare, and
it's only if someone had their phone on silent by accident.
They haven't actually forgotten typically. But yeah, yeah, that'd be
the biggest name, I think, Paddy.
Speaker 6 (46:13):
Yeah for sure. Now, you couldn't really pick a favorite
Tasmanian personality, could you, because there's so many.
Speaker 5 (46:20):
Yeah, I mean as far as well known Tasmine's around,
Tipmos's come on in leaps and bounds. I've had her
on the show a few times obviously, But yeah, I'd
hate to single out someone because that's the beauty of
this show is all the local sports we cover and
not necessarily the big names, but we've gone and covered
these local sports and given them people a platform that
wouldn't typically get one.
Speaker 6 (46:40):
Yeah. No, that's a very good point. Now, what about
the funniest interview?
Speaker 5 (46:45):
Yeah, well, there's been a few, I think, not so
much interviews at funny moments, and we'll hear some of
those a bit later. I understand from you, Yes, four
footage during the week, as you said, off the top
of the show, not the audio. But I think the
funniest interview was with a man called David Scouzo, who
wouldn't be a familiar name to many people, but he
(47:05):
was an impersonator. He took off Mick Maldouse, Sam Newman.
He lost my I had tears in my eyes that David.
But he was so good, so so good, and I'll
never forget.
Speaker 10 (47:17):
That he was.
Speaker 6 (47:18):
Yeah, he had fifteen He was brilliant.
Speaker 5 (47:23):
Absolutely. Like some people do impersonation, they just can't quite
nail it if but this guy was just so good.
Speaker 6 (47:31):
Now that's the funniest interview. What about an awkward interview?
Do you remember some of that?
Speaker 5 (47:35):
Yeah, there's been a few. Brownie. Brownie was battling one day.
I remember we had a young boxer in the studio
and we were probably pretty new at that point, and
Brownie probably hadn't quite crafted how to do an interview yet.
And to his credit though, he kept finding out this
guy was giving him nothing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and Brownie
(47:58):
kept peering to I don't know how he thought so
quickly on the spot to figure another question, but he
did so. That was very funny.
Speaker 6 (48:03):
Yeah, that's very single short answers. You have to keep
on coming up with extra stuff exactly. Yeah, it's you
need to the boxing world. Actually some boxes give you
very very little like that. Now a little bit personal,
but I'm prepared to copy it here. Your favorite co host.
Speaker 5 (48:22):
Yeah, I can't split it between Jordan Silk and Molly Straino,
to be honest. So that's where I've landed there.
Speaker 6 (48:28):
Sorry Cameron Brown as well.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
It's like I can't pick between you to can I good?
Speaker 6 (48:35):
Well answered, Yeah, Now who do you think we've interviewed
the most over the time?
Speaker 5 (48:40):
Well, I know because you gave me. He gave me
these questions, so I looked it up. Who would you
say it would be? Do you have any ideas well?
Speaker 6 (48:49):
Tim Paine was in a lot early day, it was, yes,
but he probably got overtaken by well, Jordan Silk was
a host.
Speaker 5 (49:00):
Yeah, I'll just tell you Peter Staples, the Great Pearter
of Staples twenty six appearances for the Great Man over
the journey, so he John Bulos was leading that charge
for a long time. We had Johnny bulloss to the
former head of Football Federation Tasmania on a fair bit
back in the day. Richard Wells just missing out on
twenty four. So there's only one ahead everywhere. Take those
(49:21):
stats into the future and we'll see where we're all
good court.
Speaker 6 (49:25):
Now, I know you're a basketball nuffy and you're so
footy nuffy as well, but which one do you think
we've had more segments on with sport?
Speaker 5 (49:35):
Had to be footy?
Speaker 6 (49:36):
And what about when the jjsa town.
Speaker 5 (49:38):
Well, that's right. It was only two years ago though,
wasn't it. So that's what I really ramped up with
the basketball side of things. But yeah, know it's we've
done a lot of creet We've done a lot.
Speaker 6 (49:47):
Of all sports.
Speaker 5 (49:47):
Really really have.
Speaker 6 (49:48):
Pickleball even give pick aball run absolutely.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (49:51):
Now I'm thinking about your role model and how you've
developed your craft. Akay, in the media, who's been your
role model? Bean Bruce? Has it been Eddie or Jared Whiteley.
Speaker 5 (50:03):
I'm going to tell you who. It hasn't been you
for radio Craft, correct, don't I don't really have a
role model.
Speaker 6 (50:10):
It was Eddie?
Speaker 5 (50:11):
Yeah, I do. Really what Edie's done, absolutely, and yeah,
I think he's done a magnificent job. Fair, He's got
a lot of critics. But yeah, don't really have a
role model as such. I suppose no.
Speaker 6 (50:23):
Well, who which one of those do you think your
style most closely resembles?
Speaker 5 (50:30):
I don't know, probably who, probably Eddie, I suppose out
of those three, but it's not necessarily him either. On
my own man Blair.
Speaker 6 (50:38):
Yeah, you are trailblazer, You absolute trailblazer. Now here's a
personal question because we know you love the West Coast?
Have you ever seen a worse team than the West
Coast currently?
Speaker 5 (50:52):
The answers, Oh, it's hard to beat at the moment,
isn't it so pretty good? Last week?
Speaker 6 (50:57):
To be fair?
Speaker 5 (50:58):
Today? Really interesting? They're going to be under the pump today.
It's going to be a long day for him.
Speaker 6 (51:02):
Yeah, it will be a long day. And any other
favorite moments, anything else you want to talk about? Brown?
This is your moment now?
Speaker 5 (51:10):
Yeah, well, do I wanted to pick a favorite moment
with you and Cam. Actually, I'll start with Brownie. He's
not here, the Great Man, and it's a weird favorite
moment because we've had a lot of laughs on the journey,
but it's more of a serious one. This just goes
to show the top of man Brownie is, I think,
and how much he loves footy. It dates back to
the Western Bulldogs plimary final back in twenty sixteen. He's
(51:32):
been through some pain in the years prior to that,
so he didn't watch it, and that just a stand
of me and this is how the conversation unfolded on
that day. So Sebastian watched it.
Speaker 14 (51:42):
Sebastian watched it. Yeah, that was always a plan. I
would come back at about five to eight, knock on
the door and find out where one is extraordinary. So
Nicole and Image and I went home. We watched Dodgeball,
the movie. This we had thirty minutes to kill. I
was pacing up the house, thought what are we going
to do? So we didn't know what to watch on Netflix.
(52:02):
We watched an episode of forty Towers and then It's
True and then I drove over at about quarter to eight.
Speaker 8 (52:11):
It's panicking. I don't want to go to Superac.
Speaker 6 (52:13):
We can't.
Speaker 14 (52:13):
We might see someone. I thought, if someone's going to
tell me we won or lost, I wanted to be
my son. So then we drove over. I was just
a motion. I was feeling sick in the guts, just
thinking about that. We're both teary. And then we jumped
out of the car about ten to eight and I
just heard this go docs and I thought, that's Sebastian's voice.
I jumped straight back in the car, did another block
(52:36):
around how and just thought, what does that mean?
Speaker 8 (52:38):
It must be close. We're still in it.
Speaker 14 (52:40):
And then I knocked on the door and I thought,
what's going to happen here?
Speaker 8 (52:44):
And he just said we're in.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Dat makes me tear up listening to that because I
know just what the Western Wood Dogs Maine to Browny.
It's everything that's huge. Yeah, I just love that. I
reckon that was awesome. I didn't watch a dodgeball in
forty Towers instead of all the games on. I can't
com can't comprehend that.
Speaker 6 (53:02):
Yeah it is, I mean, yeah, it's amazing, that's how
much the dogs mean to him. But you've got to
watch your team, don't you.
Speaker 5 (53:09):
Yeah ugly, yeah, yeah, I can see why though he
had a lot of heartbreak before that. So now with you,
this goes back to our very fresh year, a bit rough.
Grand Final day twenty eleven one of the great days.
It's bucketing with rain. We meant to be doing this
ob outside the gates of Punt Road, and yeah, luckily
(53:33):
Kitty Chillo, who became the chef the mission for the
Australian Olympic team, had a tent for us. You were
probably hung over because you've been out the night before
on Grand Final leave. You had you bought, I would have,
but yes, we had had the tent set up outside.
Punt rode over. Jack Revolt drove past, we grabbed him.
(53:53):
I think Tony Shaw went past and grapped him and
we grabbed else was out, Billy Brown probably having the
premier at that point. But we had Muhammed two looking
after as a security guard that day. Here's a little
quip from that tape Punt Road. We can't forget Muhammad.
He's standing in the rain as well.
Speaker 6 (54:11):
How's Muhammad our security guard? Because we're being flocked by
all the fans coming in and Muhammad just keep them
back Muhammed behind the line.
Speaker 10 (54:20):
Just keep them back place.
Speaker 8 (54:21):
They're all coming in as well.
Speaker 14 (54:23):
It was so good.
Speaker 5 (54:24):
I love that, and good day for you that day too.
Later on you went when the flag with the cats.
Speaker 6 (54:29):
But lucky, as you said, for Kiddy Chillou because that
ob kit, because we took that over from the station here.
I had to fly over with it. It was twenty
thousand dollars and the producer here said, Blair, whatever you do,
you just look after this kit. Yeah, no worries. I
nearly left it on the airport on the on the
the what's the thing the conveyor belt. Conveyor belt there.
(54:50):
And then after the game, the last thing I wanted
was this ob kit going around with me. Yeah, i'd
party still tend and watch them can good old Kitty Chiller.
She had a car there, so we chucked it in
the boot there.
Speaker 5 (55:05):
And we've seen it again that we did come back
in the.
Speaker 6 (55:08):
That was on Saturday. On Monday, I go, oh, that's right,
I've got that O B kid and I had to
track it down and find her on Monday to get
it back. But what about that we've done too broadcasts
twenty eleven and then last year's Grand Final as well.
Speaker 5 (55:21):
That's been been an awesome fun.
Speaker 6 (55:23):
Really good, really good fun.
Speaker 5 (55:24):
Now we're going to get to another break and the
other side of it again.
Speaker 6 (55:27):
Not sure.
Speaker 5 (55:27):
So I'm going to push the button and say thanks
to tases back your local Cobuta dealer. You're listening to
the water Boys.
Speaker 4 (55:33):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (55:36):
Thanks for tas back your local Kubota dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brancos Ello and Blair Brown Nurse.
This is yours.
Speaker 6 (55:47):
After me. And now we've got delve back in there
and cut off a little bit of audio of my
our favorite moments with you. Brene came around, came Brown
came in early in the weekend, we came into the
studio and.
Speaker 5 (55:59):
Cause he's not what do you get it for? No changes, Because.
Speaker 6 (56:03):
You're a very important person and you're well worth it.
So now this first bit is you doing a bit
of social basketball down at the Kingbot Sports Center.
Speaker 14 (56:12):
The buzzer went and people went to sort of shake
hands and so forth. After the end of the game,
Brinker still I know where to be seen. You went
to the beach to see how many points it'scored.
Speaker 8 (56:22):
This is unbelievable. Want to shake hands.
Speaker 14 (56:25):
What makes it worse is when you were questioned by
your your lack of team ethic, if I can put
it like that, by the rest of your players. You
said you were checking how many fouls you got.
Speaker 8 (56:35):
Now that is a roof.
Speaker 14 (56:36):
Why would you go and check how many fat Why
because the game's finished print You're not going to be
failed off? I thought I had.
Speaker 8 (56:41):
That's incredible about me?
Speaker 4 (56:43):
Me win?
Speaker 8 (56:44):
Yeah, one got the trophy.
Speaker 4 (56:49):
Just work on the run set prend.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
The gang Man style?
Speaker 5 (56:53):
What about if we change that to gang Man?
Speaker 8 (56:57):
Gang Man style?
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Gang Man is a g nam.
Speaker 8 (57:01):
Yeah, got to be like saying vietmam Man.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
Who's in.
Speaker 8 (57:08):
Five hundred and thirty million hits on YouTube. Yeah, exactly
what he's been saying.
Speaker 7 (57:12):
Gang Man.
Speaker 14 (57:13):
But one guy in New Town who thought the song
was something a little different. I notice you pumped out
your five thousands tweet last night.
Speaker 5 (57:21):
Yeah, look on you. It was coming up, but it
sort of went noticed that at work about five o'clock
last night. But then I got involved.
Speaker 14 (57:29):
It's my marle I heard Leo and Fletcher and Alli.
There was some sort of cake for your five thousands tweets.
That's extraordinary self indulgence there from the Costello family, but
it's their own.
Speaker 5 (57:41):
Now I want to talk you about Twitter because you
are such a lurker on there. You obviously just lurk
and don't tweet anything.
Speaker 8 (57:48):
Tweet four thousands mysterious.
Speaker 5 (57:51):
Coind of Now if everyone's get around Cam, it's Cam
Brown fifty four, So Cam Brown and his age. That's
your fine work. Happy birthday to my little boy Fletcher.
He's won on Thursdays, thanks man to Fletcher.
Speaker 14 (58:06):
There Thursday's advanced.
Speaker 8 (58:11):
Mum, thanks for that.
Speaker 5 (58:13):
So what happens here? This is a tricky situation for
a lot of likes. That's the first game Australia is
going to play in the World Cup and it's also
Valentine's Day? What do you do?
Speaker 14 (58:22):
Well, as you were saying off air, Bred, I mean
Valentine's Day comes around every year, but a World Cup
match doesn't know, it only comes around three four years
plus in your own country. So it's not necessarily saying
I agree with you brand, But what you said off air,
you've obviously thought about it.
Speaker 5 (58:37):
Did you see who won the High Back Cup?
Speaker 7 (58:39):
Is?
Speaker 8 (58:40):
I did?
Speaker 6 (58:40):
Yes?
Speaker 14 (58:41):
And it was predicted by your good self and your
phantom call last Sunday, which I reclined.
Speaker 6 (58:47):
I've actually let me again.
Speaker 8 (58:48):
You've got to.
Speaker 5 (58:48):
Hear the audio. Let's ever listen to how I called
the cup last week. Jee's back places, call me g
J's bake Flash wins the cup. There you go, Cam,
I called it perfect. Happy to take your five bucks
when you want to go in and park. And when
they should be there directing the end of the buddy joint,
they're gone.
Speaker 8 (59:06):
I think it's the five dollars. It's really hit role
with you.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
That's the probably didn't hear the show last week, but
I bought Leo my boy in to feel the hole
that you left. Here is some of the highlights. Welcome
to the water Boys, Leo hi Ga.
Speaker 8 (59:21):
Support because Paggy Ryder will help a lot.
Speaker 5 (59:25):
That's the water Boys Love but Century Targer edition. All right,
Glenn reads, let's get underway with this question one. How
many kilometers is target staged over? Is it closer to
one thousand, fifteen hundred or two thousand kilometers?
Speaker 15 (59:40):
Now?
Speaker 7 (59:41):
Are we talking about the competitive stag It's not the
driving face.
Speaker 8 (59:44):
Look, I just got to reach Barry.
Speaker 14 (59:47):
I picked up the Sunday Easy magazine, which is the
lift out. And then if you look in page three
there's a lovely little article talking about media savvy parents
and whatnot. And and also you can see the three
children this time Fletcher, Lylah and Leo and Alison, and
you're buffet. Obviously they've got it right, because I've been
(01:00:10):
frightened to tell you the truth. When I saw your
big head on page three, I can see why it
probably didn't make the cart for the cover page.
Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
Bren.
Speaker 8 (01:00:18):
I think they've got that right. It's a beautiful The.
Speaker 5 (01:00:20):
First one circulation numbers have gone through the roof this morning.
Speaker 14 (01:00:23):
Apparently you threw it in my face this morning in
case I hadn't seen it, but I read it.
Speaker 6 (01:00:28):
Brent.
Speaker 14 (01:00:29):
You got out of the car and you're yelling out
to me from the window, happy mother's stay out there
to all the mums.
Speaker 5 (01:00:34):
Yes, if you wait, happy mothers. Mentioned our lovely mum's
off the top about the brothers of our kids as well,
Allison and Nicole.
Speaker 14 (01:00:42):
I wanted to say that, but you see, I know
we won't have enough time, but yeah, but I'm anyway.
Speaker 8 (01:00:47):
You're the boss, Mane, You're the boss.
Speaker 5 (01:00:49):
But what a stitch up. That's not true at all.
Speaker 8 (01:00:52):
I just think a little bit more on.
Speaker 5 (01:00:54):
I don't know much at all.
Speaker 8 (01:00:55):
Cam' mister Gerald.
Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
Laws the English cricket team has asked Prince Charles to
bat for them in the ashes camp. Did you know that?
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:01:08):
I didn't, Brent.
Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
He said he doesn't bat, but Camilla Parker bowls.
Speaker 8 (01:01:14):
Brent, come on, that's not bad.
Speaker 5 (01:01:16):
That is not bad.
Speaker 4 (01:01:18):
That is four.
Speaker 5 (01:01:19):
I've been working on my little boy Fletcher. He's three
and we I've managed to teach him the club. So
I'm going to play this when you're away, but I
want to want to show you how he's gone with.
Speaker 15 (01:01:27):
Its high for a three year old who was doing
the backing workers there was that you was because that
spoiled it.
Speaker 8 (01:01:38):
That was really well.
Speaker 10 (01:01:40):
I got him along.
Speaker 8 (01:01:41):
It was beautiful apart.
Speaker 14 (01:01:42):
From a deep drone going on in the background during
the week that I was watching WE News. And I
want to take you back to this because we all
know of Billy Birmingham of a Prissa r Well.
Speaker 8 (01:01:55):
I want a marvelous interview.
Speaker 7 (01:01:56):
This has been and let's take you back now to
Brent Costello in the wind studios.
Speaker 8 (01:02:02):
Thanks Billy, that's pretty good. Now you're going well. Now
I enjoyed the fake laugh.
Speaker 14 (01:02:07):
That was good, and then you had to play that
little bit in that was just you know, it was
a nice little touch, spoiled by a bit of overconfidence
in what I would describe as a mediocre Richie Ben
impersonation this.
Speaker 8 (01:02:22):
Time last year, should he bleeded purple?
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (01:02:25):
My goodness, me bad? He bleeds purple? And then all
of a sudden yes, sorry, three or fourth?
Speaker 5 (01:02:34):
Now I want you up this morning because it's not
season over the dog. He's You're still sitting in the eighth,
so just have anyway.
Speaker 14 (01:02:41):
Well Bobby McFerrin, who wrote don't worry, be happy. He's
not going to get my spirits up. Brent, thanks for
the sentiments, buddy.
Speaker 5 (01:02:47):
Welcome back to Tassi.
Speaker 6 (01:02:48):
Mate.
Speaker 5 (01:02:48):
You're opposed to be here.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
It's great to be back.
Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
Do you like playing that here?
Speaker 6 (01:02:53):
He does?
Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
He loves it. Heick thirteen months camp.
Speaker 8 (01:02:55):
So you hear the second question, that's probably because he
walked off.
Speaker 14 (01:03:00):
So can you go to the seven A HIFM website
and hear more of that interview or not?
Speaker 5 (01:03:06):
More silence is available?
Speaker 14 (01:03:09):
Did I say a condensed version of that interview?
Speaker 8 (01:03:21):
Tell you what you can do with your clapping? Brent,
you can.
Speaker 5 (01:03:24):
We're abseiling down Rest Point Tower to raise money for
the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundations.
Speaker 14 (01:03:30):
Brent Costello somewhat surprising taking part in this. I wouldn't
necessarily assay shaped courage with with Brandy when you know,
if I was to describe him in a personality sense,
But hats off to him.
Speaker 5 (01:03:44):
Very good, that's great packing, very funny, very very good.
So very funny memory. Yeah, good times.
Speaker 6 (01:03:50):
My word. Now this last segment, it's going to be I'm.
Speaker 5 (01:03:53):
Going to leave now, I think, because I think it'll
just be best for everyone. I take off to be honest.
Speaker 6 (01:03:57):
Now we're all going to straighten up for this last
segment and really pay tribute to you one final time,
one final segment. This will be emotional.
Speaker 5 (01:04:06):
Yes, stay with us. Thanks Taz Back, you've been an
awesome support of the show too, in case I forget
to mention at the end, because they have been to
wrap things up about twelve months ago they jumped on
board and McDonald's as well, been awesome. So thanks to
those two particular companies for helping us out and making
the show is what it is today. It's much appreciated.
(01:04:26):
We'll get to a break in the other side of
it wrapped things up here on the water Boys.
Speaker 4 (01:04:29):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (01:04:32):
Thanks to Taz back your local Koboda dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costelo and Blair Brownness.
Speaker 6 (01:04:42):
Now, Brando, we just had a fantastic segment there with
Cam Brown and all the highlights there.
Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
We haven't got any man, Oh yes we have because
as I said.
Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
Cam Brown and myself we came into the studio when
we cut up some audio and here's a little package
with my good self. Now Brent Costello is just about
to jump on the scales here and Richard, can you
take the official reading.
Speaker 13 (01:05:06):
One hundred twenty eighty or it's going up and down
like the Biggest Loser?
Speaker 10 (01:05:09):
What's it going to land on?
Speaker 6 (01:05:10):
It's one hundred and six.
Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
Point nine as well as you read that, just put
one point eight kilos in the break. Being an icon
of rugby league. I looked after Robbie Kens in this interview.
I had to cut it out because he said a
bit north Haubitt over war GG five. Did you say
Blair was fifteen in eighty four?
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
We met what it was in eighty four zero?
Speaker 8 (01:05:36):
Look look at your head though, Brandon, how much your
ase now?
Speaker 6 (01:05:39):
Bill?
Speaker 5 (01:05:39):
I like to take the doubles out of Blair on
the show. You would have grown up with him, of course,
can you tell me?
Speaker 6 (01:05:46):
I want to show Brent just wrapped himself off about that.
We know how it started because we got a little
clip here. This is how it started.
Speaker 11 (01:05:55):
Nothing escapes around, Sorry buddy, Here we go strap ourselves.
Speaker 5 (01:05:58):
In Australia, A Captain's George Bailey joins me. Bars things
fits on in order to be.
Speaker 6 (01:06:04):
What was the next word there?
Speaker 8 (01:06:06):
Something that started with.
Speaker 5 (01:06:10):
Yeah, freaking just to quick update from my garage, star
watches and DVD's, iPods have all gone. Clothes and TV's
aren't moving that le Brown's are coming down just to
get a few people around.
Speaker 6 (01:06:21):
Its problem with the clothing there, it's all x x
ex super super large size.
Speaker 5 (01:06:29):
You were with some virgils in the Humblebee brownless coach.
Speaker 14 (01:06:33):
That's right, and that happened. He did any lost one
too and it was a good coach. Oh, I never
said he was. And people I talked to you don't
say the same thing as you said.
Speaker 5 (01:06:47):
We don't like to pop people on this show. But
when it comes to Blair Brown. I think he went
to Queensland earlier this year with a lot of fan fait.
Speaker 8 (01:06:56):
Diedn't he from himself? From my exactly into.
Speaker 5 (01:07:00):
One of the premier clubs in the in the side,
the Morning Side Panthers. Well, we'll just do a quick
check of the latter. Where's Morning Side finished this year?
Speaker 6 (01:07:10):
Please?
Speaker 5 (01:07:10):
We met?
Speaker 14 (01:07:10):
I believe last cold last Oh my good.
Speaker 6 (01:07:15):
Yes, it's a good fun there brand and it's been
an absolute pleasure. Now I'm going to straighten up right
now because before you get the final word on behalf
of all sports people sports lovers in this state, Brent,
we want to thank you for your contribution over twelve years.
As I said, four hundred and eighty two shows. People
(01:07:39):
here in Tasmania go to you to find out about
what's happening in sport. Now, whether it's be on the
water Boys, Win TV, your social media accounts, we all
go to you and we check the stories that you
break and all the support you've given so many sporting
organizations in this state. So your contribution to local sport
(01:08:03):
has been outstanding, absolutely outstanding. There's been no ego in it.
In an ego driven world in the media, You're very
humble man, and you never forget that what you're here for,
and that's to cover local sports. So on behalf of
all sport lovers in this state. Thank you, Brent. You've
(01:08:24):
been wonderful. Your story will continue on win TV and
New Adventures. But everything you've done for the water Boys
has been absolutely sensational. And it is true. We just
come in and co host. You're over there, you tee
up all the talent, you press the panels and I'm
show what happens over there. But you do absolutely everything
(01:08:46):
for this show and you'll be sadly, sadly missed.
Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
Thanks Blarrrie. I really don't want to make this about me.
This goodbye is more to say thank you to all
those who made this incredible ride possible over the last decade.
So please bear with me for the next few minutes.
To be brutally honest, I've been dreading this moment since
I made the extremely difficult decision to walk away from
(01:09:09):
the water Boys just under four weeks ago. It really
hasn't sunk in yet that this is it. Firstly, I
wanted to thank the station who've let us have free
reign for two hours each weekend. I've worked with a
number of general managers and content directors over the journey
and to them I say a massive thank you all
of you, particularly in more recent times Mark Johnson, who
(01:09:31):
took our show to a new audience statewide and Alan
Cameron who helped us with a reset twelve months ago
to take us to a new level. I particularly wanted
to thank Kevin john O Johnson, who a lot of
you will know from seven hilfm's Breakfast show. You've always
had our back, getting things done for us and stepping
up to panel the show when I haven't been able to.
(01:09:53):
Nothing has ever been too much trouble and I can't
thank you enough. Also the King of Tazzy Radio, Richard,
who has also been such a big help to us
over the last decade. I'll be forever grateful to you, Maurie,
and I'm so pumped to be able to call you
a friend and say that I've got to work alongside
an absolute legend of the industry and you aren't too
bad for his on supporter. Also a shout out to
(01:10:16):
my friend nat Castle at LAFM for all of her
support over the past couple of years. To all the
Pandeloups I worked with in the early days before I
started pushing the buttons, particularly Jason Woofy woof Graham, Thank
you mate, he set us on the right path all
the way back in twenty eleven. To all our regulars
over the journey, Damian Gil before he became a big deal,
Ryan Kinder, cam Blight, Jordan's Silk. The list goes on.
(01:10:39):
Your contribution to the show won't be forgotten, and we
appreciate everything you did for us. This might be the
hard bit. I also wanted to thank my family. They're
usually sound asleep when I speak out of the house
at five VM on a Saturday morning, but the support
of my beautiful wife, Allison and the kids has been
the men's I love you all. I love these A
(01:11:00):
wonder to thank my Mum and Dad and David and
my parents in Laura, Ros and Pete for everything they've
done for me at times so I could be here
to get the show to air. To the young sung
heroes of the water Boys, the media managers of our
sporting teams who have helped us organize interviews each week.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated. I also wanted to give
a massive shout out to our guests, and we've had
(01:11:21):
plenty of them, in fact, over a thousand since the
show began in twenty eleven. We couldn't have done it
without you. To Cam who couldn't be here today, he
probably wishes he was now after seeing the Dogs lose
in Melbourne last night. We said our goodbyes to each
other last week, but thanks again for everything mate. To
you Blair, he started me on this journey back in
twenty eleven and I can't thank you enough for that.
(01:11:43):
We only had a year together before you took off
to Queensland, but I'm so glad you were able to
rejoin the show over the last few years. He made
me laugh like nobody else and working with you is
one of the biggest things all miss about leaving the show.
Thanks mate. Finally, to you the audience. While we runt
up every Saturday, and we never take your listenership for granted.
(01:12:06):
Thanks for sharing some of your precious time on a
weekend with us for the past decade. I've just spent
the last minute or so talking like this is the
death of the show, but it's anything but. It's simply
the end of my time and I can't wait to
watch it flourish into the future. I'll still be listening
every week because the water Boys means more to me
than anyone will ever know. All it's have to say
(01:12:28):
is thank you, and for the final time, have a
great weekend everyone,
