Speaker 1 (00:00):
No matter what they're spoiled, where it's played, or the
team's behind it, We've got. This is the water Boys.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Thanks to Tasmac, Devonpord, Montston, Bridgewater and Smifton, your local
Koboda dealer.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Hi everyone, Welcome to the water Boys for another super
Saturday of Smort Brincosslo with you alongside Cam Brown this
morning to.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Day Brownie Brend, how are you this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I'm well chili. These days I get up what I
think it was too bad. I don't think it was
too bad this morning. You know, it's chili when you've
got to get the frost off the windscreen. I didn't
have to do that this morning, so I was pretty happy.
Speaker 5 (00:32):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Pretty smick this morning, Might I say too? We're sort
of rocking with a few.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
To be brutally honest, So I went out last night
to an event and I didn't want to wake anyone
this morning, so I slipped the So I'll just putting
it all out there this morning. Yes, how's your week back?
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Yeah? Pretty good? Pretty solid?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, yeah, very very good. Plenty to talk about this morning.
We've got a pig shot head before we get to that, though,
AFL last night a good win for Brisbane on the road.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Important was and the record at Marvel hasn't been traditionally
great over this last few years, but they won last
night twenty eight point winners. The Lions twelve twelve eighty
four defeated the Saints eight eight fifty six. Dunkly, it's
having a great season for the Lions, and Andrews was
dominated as the intercept defender, peopled with four goals to
(01:26):
Brent sinclear the best for the Saints. One game in
the NRL last night. Of course we had origin during
the week. We touched on that a little bit later,
but it was a Dragon to eighteen. They were thump
by the Warriors forty eight, so could win for the Warriors.
They move up to fourth on the ladder.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Just circling back to Josh Dunkley, he's having a wonderful year.
How do you feel about that bang?
Speaker 4 (01:44):
It still annoys me, Brent when he said that he
was a bit of a smart ale, like going your
way out and some of his comments, So you hold
that against him.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
So he's having a good year, Josh dunkleyh what about
the women's actes? How good has it seen the women play?
A Test match and the Aussies going beautifully all that
for four seventy three. And how about Annabel Sutherland came
in at number eight one hundred and thirty seven not
out and in reply England at two eighteen Tammy Beaumont
unbeaten on one hundred, Ash Gardner and Annabel Saddler with
(02:13):
a wick at each, So that one is set up
beautifully for a ripping finish over five days. We're in
day three tonight when it starts over there in the UK.
As I said, we've got a big show a head
this morning, not too far away. We look at the
week that was, lots of dissect there. Ryan Kinder, our
old poals in the studio, has bring a couple of
players in from the king Retigers junior foota club. They're
looking after speak up, stay chatty this round by wearing
(02:36):
blue jerseys during their matches, so looking forward to chatting
to them. We'll look at the ashes, the men's and
women's of course, and also check in with Paddy Dooley,
who was a New Tasmanian Tigers recruit Brownie A through
his sensational season with the Hobart Hurricanes. What about our
two this morning Camp.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Yeah, Marcus Lee, what a signing he was during the
week for the jack Jumpers. You've seen his highlights.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I have a memory of him torching out here at
my State Bank around last year for Melbourne United too.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
We've blackly to hide. We have and small squad.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Tough news about Will Magne which we'll get to in
the week that was so he'll fit in nicely.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Yeah, we'll touch on AFL too and Tom Secret the
suburban footballer. Really looking forward to him coming in breath.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yes, I have a laugh. Towards the end of the show,
also announced the next winner of our good Sport Award.
Of course, that's all ahead for you over the next
couple of hours. Here on the water Boys doing it
all thanks to tas back your local Caboda deal This
is the water Boys, thanks to tas Back your local
Cobota Dealer. It is the water Boys with Brent Costello
and Cam Brown reflecting.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
On squad from the past seven days.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Here's the water Boys. Wise funny happening locally, nationally and internationally.
Let's start with razor Robert Wilkinson, who posted this to
his Instagram account during the week after my last fight
on April first, I failed an in competition drug test,
which has resulted in my suspension for the rest of
the twenty twenty three PFL season. I have and will
(03:58):
continue to reflect on all the reasons that led me
down this path. But regardless of these reasons, I'm extremely
disappointed in myself. I want to emphasize it. I wholeheartedly
accept full responsibility for the choices I've made and the
consequences that have come with it. It goes on to
say a few different things, but the last pass says
I'm looking forward to putting this behind me and getting
back to what I love. I promise you that I'll
(04:19):
be bringing the PFL twenty twenty four l HW belt
back to Australia. So that is Raiser Rob Wilkinson. That
would have been difficult to do, wouldn't it posting a
statement like that.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Yes, listening to that, Brenni certainly owned his actions and
is fully aware of the consequences for the decisions that
he's made. So it looked a fairly blunt and honest
assessment assessment of his own interactions and dealings. But what
does that mean? So he's not stripped of I.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Wouldn't have thought he' stripped because it was last year
he won everything in a million dollar pay day, of course,
and that's all in the past. So yeah, it looks
like he wants to keep going, which is which is
great news. And as he said there, he will reflect
on what he's what he's done and learn from it.
So we wish him all the best with that. Hey,
the super netball stuff during the week, what did you
make of Tasmania pulling.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Out of it? Out of the bit so why didn't
we we stump o a bit? But in fin as
some of the commentary had been if we did, would
we be ready in time? And it was probably more
like a hybrid model. Is that would that be fair
to say?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah? I think for two reasons. One, there just isn't
enough time to get ready. I think the club is
going to need to be operational by next month.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
He don't want to rush it.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
He don't want to rush it, and so I fully
understand and respect that. I think if you want to
do this, got to do it properly. And I honestly
think that Ball Australia will put a second team in Victoria.
So maybe they got wind of that and decided to
pull out. But that's where the second team will be the.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Second team, and I guess the TV rights there's not
some stipulations that it does have to be a Melbourne team.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah there is?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yeah, there is?
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Yeah, Well then why is it even ascussion then if
it was always going to be in Melbourne? Yeah, I
think maybe there wasn't mean we're probably going to be
a hybrid opportunity.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Potentially it might have been some way around it, I guess.
But that's where it'll be. Cam Collingwood's license will stay
in Victoria. I'll be stunned if it went elsewhere from here.
How about Nick Baker, that was a tough story to
read during the week, lost his finger. This is a
knick bag of that plays for the Tigers and the
tsel of course in a workplace accident.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
I read that and obviously rang his coach from the hospital. Yeah.
And obviously the seriousness of the injury and the recovery
that will need to take place and the sensitivities around that. Yeah,
I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
It was a Yeah, it sounds like good news though
they've very attached it and some sensation there, which is
which is great. So I'm not sure how long it
keeps him.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
A question of nerve damage and all those sorts of
things that he'd have to work through this next period
of time before he gets back and plays football, which
is probably the last thing on his mind at the moment.
So we certainly wish him all the very best in
his recovery. Nick Back a good player.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Absolutely, I'll be missed by the Tigers for the little
period he's going to be out for the back Jumpers
this we've got our three imports locked in, which is
great news Milton Doyle of course, which is great to
have Milton back at him on the show. Last week
Marcus Lee and Jordan Crawford, who is the nephew or
a friend of Floyd Money Mayweather.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
We posted something he need extraordinary on social media acknowledging
his signing. Brent, I heard Corey Homicide Williams on your
TV station channel Brent actually saying, well, he was watching
lyrical about the three recent signings of the jack Jumpers
(07:33):
or bent Milton Doylers of re signing, and yeah, he
seemed highly complimentary of the list that the jack Jumpers
are putting together.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
No, exactly right now, it's pretty exciting.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
The highlight rule too, seen all of them.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
He's only small, very tiny, yeah, the fire foot.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, spontically and the third shortest player in NBO history,
I think so.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
But he can play minergy. Some of the highlights I
saw and in some of he's dribbling and some of
the step away jump shot and three point. I mean,
all the highlights package are going to look good, aren't
they when you put the best of someone together. But
he looks a really exciting prospect.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Absolutely, you can't wait for that. But the disappointing part
of all that is Will Magne has suffered another injury
during the off season, a copter knocked to his ankle
or foot, I think, and we'll have a delayed start
to his preseason. So hopefully that's not as bad as
it seems. He's horror run of injuries.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Will hasn't he has? So what was to go with
the Riverside coach during the week, It was interesting on
the run sheeat I've just thrown that in.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Yeah, held O Sandos Silver has been stood down by
Riverside Olympic and for an incident happened at the Devonport
Cup Junior competition. A couple of weekends.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Do we know what the incident was?
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Now?
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I can't. No one seems to want to speak about it,
so I'm not sure exactly what's happened there, but obviously
serious enough for him to be stood down from his role,
So no doubt more will come to light on that
as the weeks and months go on. And obviously an
investigations underway by Football Tasbonia so wait and so.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
It's an independent investigation that's being done.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Heather Graham resigned with the Hurricanes. She's a good pie,
Heather Graham. It's a great get for the Hurricanes.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
But a terrific signing, hasn't she for them?
Speaker 7 (09:14):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (09:15):
And right from the word go it's really come in
and performed extremely well. So that's really important for the squad.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Yep, definitely that is the week that was. For this week,
we've got plenty more for you to come on the
show this morning. Our to Marcus Lee will join us,
as will Tom Siege, who is the suburban footballer but
up next to our great paler Ryan Kinders in the
studio with two players and the Kingbolons Junior footy Club
who are supporting Speak Up, Stay Chatty tomorrow and last night.
That's next on the water Boys. Do we get all
(09:41):
thanks to tas back your local Combota dealer.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Thanks to tas Back your local Combota dealer. It's the
water Boys with brancos Elo and Cam Brown from Tiger,
joined by a couple of young guns in the studio
this morning, Cam, which is really really exciting, Royce Stevenson
and me Atherton who both play under sixteens at the
Kingbra Tigers Junior Football Club and they've got a very
(10:08):
special weekend down there this weekend and last night of course,
So welcome to the studio you two.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Nice to see you.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Roy.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
We'll start with you. You're the Tigers. It's anonymous with
the yellow and black jumper. Of course this week you're
going blue though for a very good reason.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
Yeah, we love our yellow and black jumpers, but we've
chained it up this round for a good cause and
gone blue all the way down from oz kikid Star
under sixteens.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
That's awesome. It looks cool too. I don't mind the
blue and the black. What's everyone thinking of it down
there at the club.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Yeah, we love it. Wish we could wear it more.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Really, tell us a bit more about what the weekend entails.
I guess it's a bit more than just wearing a
different color jumper.
Speaker 7 (10:44):
Yeah. Well, we're just trying to raise funds for mental
health really and at our home ground we're just donating
money and all the players and you know you ever
run around the ground.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Do you know much about how the idea came about?
Because you obviously partner with Speak Up Stage Chatty, you
was synonymous with the mental health space here in Tasmariy,
tell us a bit about that.
Speaker 7 (11:03):
It's just that mental health is really important in our
community and at the Tigers, we want to create a
good culture where everyone feels okay to speak up if
they're not okay.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Very good.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
I think you've got a few questions for me a
camp Yeah, coming me very much. Looking forward to having
a chat to you. Thanks for joining us and Roy,
just a touch on a little bit before, But what
are the key messages that you want to spread with
this stay up at chatty round this weekend?
Speaker 8 (11:27):
Just that it's okay to ask for help and just
to make sure you always check in with your mates
and look out for them and just support people just
like we do when we play footy. Just promoting positive
mental health around the club and creating an environment where
it's okay to seek assistance.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Great too if you can answer. And how can the
spectator support you? Obviously in the build up to tomorrow,
a lot of the matches happening tomorrow, we know, yeah
it potentially started last night, but yeah, how can spectators
get around it?
Speaker 8 (11:55):
Just making donations on the day. A lot of our
players will be making donations. I know that I'll be
going out of pocket to donate towards the cause for
Speak Up, Stay Chatty.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
So yeah, and the final one for me, as I
guess as young footballers, how is it important do you
believe or how what is important for sporting clubs to
be involved in really talking about mental health?
Speaker 8 (12:16):
I mean, supporting clubs plays a vital role in supporting
mental health. They provide physical activity, social interaction and just
something to get your mind off what's going on and
just promoting positive mental health as a whole.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
A couple of very good young speakers there. Thanks for
coming in, guys, really appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Who do you play tomorrow? Guys? Tell you that's important question.
I've got you vill snag right, and here's the season
when going for you? Roy?
Speaker 7 (12:42):
Yeah good, we've lost one game, but sitting comfortably second
on the ladder.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
You've got a height. So where do you play center
forward or something?
Speaker 7 (12:50):
Yeah, in the midfield and center forward.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Give us a score out of teen for your season, Ah,
could be a bit better that.
Speaker 8 (13:00):
We're playing glen Orky tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Very good. And what about you as a player, give
us a bit of a rundown.
Speaker 8 (13:05):
I play in the midfield and yeah, very nice.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Well, we've got the great man in two Ryan kind
a good friend of the show, and they've got the
guitar today. But he's here in his role with the
Kingbridge Junior Football Club. But what is your role down there? Plays?
Have you just strolled in and taken over the join
and what's going on? No?
Speaker 9 (13:20):
No, I think I started coaching in the undernines when
my daughter Grace started playing, okay, and I've just kind
of risen up through the ranks to the junior girls
youth coordinator. So looking after looking after the girls program,
which is we're traveling unbelievably at the moment, great numbers
down at the club and an initiative like this is
really really promoting I suppose that culture of belonging at
(13:45):
our foota club.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
I guess the speak up stage Chatty Roger did. What's happened?
Has there been some conversations and the people you've had
him during the week or over the weekend at all.
Speaker 9 (13:56):
Yes. Dave Jackson, one of the movers and shakers the committee,
thought this was a great idea and we've all followed
him in and it has been an absolute ripper. We've
had speak up stage Chatty speak to speak to teams
in isolation before about you know what, the pressures of
sport and the anxiety that it can bring and the
need to talk about some of those pressures that get
(14:17):
placed on you and that you placed on yourself. So
I've had it in isolation and Dave just thought, why
not let's bring this to the whole club and the
whole community. So it's kind of grown from there.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
And the guys, yeah, we spoke beautifully this morning and
engaged some terrific responses. But I guess you know, you've
been involved in education for a long time now, and
I guess the importance of sport has been a vehicle
to really galvanize and be an opportunity where people can
be open and frank and honest and a really supporting
environment to talk about some of the challenges around mental health.
Speaker 9 (14:48):
Yeah, it's crucial.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
You know.
Speaker 9 (14:50):
The self talk that we give ourselves and we play
sport can be very negative. The comments from the sidelines
can be very negative at times. Coaches can be quite
negative to say. To be able to speak up and
kind of flip that talk positive, talk positively, speak to
your mates about what's going on is so important, and
the feedback that goes in between each other and that
(15:11):
you talk to yourself about is also super positive.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Very nice. Well, thanks for coming in guys, and great initiative.
World done. The blue and Black, I don't mind.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
I'm not sure if the blue looks true.
Speaker 9 (15:20):
I do too.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
No one's really running with it, are they?
Speaker 4 (15:22):
And Footy and I can think of Roy said they're
happy to go with it. It's interesting.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
There's the breaking news this morning.
Speaker 9 (15:27):
I think that I think the tiger song might be
changed from your black to blue and black.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Yeah, well you have to this weekend. That's awesome, guys.
Thanks for coming in and good luck with the weekend.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
There we go. Representatives of the King Junior Football Club
joining us in the studio this morning to talk about
Speak up, stay chatty round. We've got lots more still
to come on the program. Up next, we turn our
attention to cricket and look at the men's and women's ashes.
That's after this on the water Boys doing it all
thanks to tas Back. This here's the water Boys, thanks
to tas Back your local Comata dealer. It's the water
(15:55):
Boys with Brent Cosselo and Cam Brown.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
It's the water Boys. Cricket report.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
The ashes is underway for the women and men and
let's start with the girls because they have started beautifully
in their Test matching. Great to see them in the
whites out there playing Test cricket. There should be more
of it and we're in a pretty good spot for
seventy three in our first innings led by an unbeaten
one hundred and thirty seven by Annabel Sutherland and in
reply at stumps on day two, England two for two
(16:23):
eighteen Tammy Beaumont unbeaten on one hundred, Sutherland and Gardener
with a wicket each. What do you made of it
so far? Camp?
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Okay? Game for Annabel Southern one hundred and thirty seven
a wicket with a ball, so fantastic because yeah, we
wouldn't have thought, you know, four hundred and seventy three
at one point six for two hundred and thirty eight.
So some great late order batting and partnerships that develop
which allowed Annabel Sutherland to reach that one hundred and
thirty seven. Ashgarna continues her great form. Tylie McGrath, what
(16:52):
are twelve twenty four months? She's had two sixty odd
and at least Perry ninety nine. I felt sorry for
I went for it too. I don't know when you
saw the shot that she got out on was trying
to slash run through point but unfortunately for her stranded
on ninety nine. But England in reply two for two eighteen,
(17:12):
so there must be some concerns. A pretty flat deck,
brind If we're looking just at the scores alone there, yep.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Absolutely, you think it will go the full five days
of some.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Descriptions are they're going to potentially get a result in
that game? It might liign some declarations and the like,
or Australia cutting through with the ball this s after
or late tonight. So let's hope Trent Bridge, our girls
can push forward and get a victory.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Absolutely What do you make of the men's result Australia
one nil up, which is absolutely outstanding. Did you watch
a lot of it?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Well, yes I did. I did watch a lot of it,
and I think most people you watch the first session
and try as hard as you can to get through
the second session before you get a bit tired. And
obviously on day five there was rain about, so yeah,
fortunately got up a wake up actually and saw the
last forty or so runs where Australia with a brilliant
partnership be between Cummins and Line. We normally lose those
(18:06):
close games traditions in Australia, so it was terrific and
we know the history going back four years ago, particularly
for Nathan Lyon, so I thought it was terrific that
he was there. Played a couple of brilliant shots to
Nathan Lyon and Cummins. Iough, I thought the over when
perhaps Stokes you know it's easy in hindsight, but he
kept on route for one extra over and Cummins, I
(18:27):
reckon sense that moment hit him for a couple of
sixers and all of a sudden it was game onne.
I must have been. I thought we were gone when
we're eight down. I didn't think we're going to get
back from there. But what did you make? A lot
of the English press have gone hard, haven't they on
a few fronts on England's I guess on the surface
generous declaration when they ate down Joe Root was still
(18:49):
not out at the time and then bas Ball. But
having said that, in the end, there's still a place
for the grinding traditional way that Australia played the game,
and particularly kawa Jo. I thought he was terrific him
and comings the standouts for Australia in that game. But
she just sets it up for a wonderful series.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
And only Robinson the commentary around him as well, pund
has come back at him. It's been.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
We'll just get into any stous verbal stous with Ricky
pointing and we're going to win that.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
No, exactly right, So it's all set up.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
That, you know, pointing one of the most respected players
and commentators and media personalities in the game. Yes, the
next test is on Wednesday, Brent.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
At Lord's Two, which I think we've played pretty well
out in the past.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Our records has very good record awards, But yeah, I've
got a feeling the yeah, feeling the problems might fight back. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Okay, well we'll wait and see. That is our cricket rap.
But we're going to continue the cricket theme next because
after this Paddy Dooley will join us. He's a Tasmanian
Tiger's recruit after his outstanding first summer with the Hobart Hurricanes.
That is next on the water Boys right across Tasmania.
We're doing it thanks to our great pounds at tas
back your local cob dealer. This is the water Boys
(20:04):
thanks to Ta's back your local Komotera dealer. It is
the water Boys with Brent Costela and Cam Brown.
Speaker 10 (20:10):
Bob, you got him.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
He wasn't watching what he needed to watch.
Speaker 8 (20:14):
Theeth dupless Paddy Dooley is in the mix.
Speaker 11 (20:18):
The celebration almost is entertaining as he's run up.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yes, he certainly became a cult figure for the Hobart
Hurricanes last season, but Paddy Dooley will now get to
do it as a tas money and tiger as well.
After switching states from Queensland over the off season. Caught
up with Paddy during the week and I started out
by asking him what it was like to be here
in Tasmania.
Speaker 11 (20:39):
Yeah, loving it. It's really good to have a full
preseason with the boys. It's my first preseason since the
Pathway stuff, so it's really good to be able to
give my body sort of a couple of months of
hard work and hopefully it'll pay off for the back
end of the season.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
You always hear about how grueling preseasons are. What's the
most difficult thing you've had to do so far?
Speaker 11 (20:59):
We did we sort of with Brendan Wilson, the physio,
we ran We went hunting hills, so we went up
into a hilly part of town and ran for about
an hour doing hill sprints. That was really fun with
the boys, but also expruciating.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
As just say, though, it's tough now, but it could
be beneficial later in the season, you know, when you're
in the middle of a Big Bash campaign, you've got
that conditioning.
Speaker 10 (21:24):
Yeah, one hundred percent.
Speaker 11 (21:25):
I think you know, I sort of struggled with my
body at the back end of the Big Bash last
year with a nursing a few injuries, so yeah, I
think it's definitely something where if I have that baseline
of fitness moving forward, then it's really going to help
me at the back end.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Obviously such a hit with the Hurricanes. I'll ask you
about that in a minute, but to get here as
the Tiger as well, just tell us about how it
all came about.
Speaker 10 (21:46):
Yeah, no, it was.
Speaker 11 (21:47):
I was sort of in discussions with Tigers off the
back of the Big Bash, and yeah, I think it
sort of just made sense given that cricket Tas have
an interest with the Hobo Hurricanes as well, so you know,
great opportunities if I get the opportunity to play overseas
that they're very accommodating to that, which would be fantastic.
(22:09):
And yeah, it's just great to be around this setup.
Sort of just just long term for straight year. I'm
based here in Tazzy and I get to just keep
working hard and go on here.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
I know you've obviously done some things with the Queen's
Land in the past, but you're surprised it's taken this
long for a state to grab hold of you and
make you a full time professional athlete. I suppose not.
Speaker 10 (22:29):
Really, it's hard.
Speaker 11 (22:30):
I think you know the creutit Australia and a lot
of the states have been going for that youth movement
over the last couple of years. So I sort of
missed my opportunity when I was younger, and I probably
didn't work hard enough to get that opportunity, and then
sort of sort of now, you know, I'm still a
bit older as well, so there's probably people see less
upside there. So yeah, I still see you know, I'm
(22:52):
twenty six and probably I feel like I'm buying the
best of ever bowl. I'm still adding stuff to my game,
and with a preseason behind, I think I'll be moving
forward and hoping to have a long career.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
As I said, we saw you dominate for the Hurricanes
last year, but how different are going to be playing
one day cricket and four day cricket. I'll suppose what
do you have to do to adjust as a player
for those formats?
Speaker 10 (23:13):
I think, you know, in the past.
Speaker 11 (23:16):
Eight years of great cricket, most of my cricket is
red ball cricket and then and probably more fifty over
cred than T twenty cricket as well, So it's definitely
something I'm used to, not at that level, but definitely
for the way my season is normally structured, I have
that focus on the red ball and the fifty over stuff.
So I'm super excited to work hard in preseason, hopefully
(23:39):
get an opportunity and see.
Speaker 10 (23:41):
How I can go at that next level.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Paddy Dooley is our guest on the water Boys. Tell
us about the ABL campaign last year. Did you surprise
even yourself how well you did?
Speaker 10 (23:51):
Yeah, a little bit.
Speaker 11 (23:52):
I mean, I'm I think in T twenty cricket, I'm
more of a defensive bowler. I'm trying to limit the
number of balls that go for boundaries, and then I think,
you know, I think I was pretty lucky in my
second game. I bowled some of the best balls in
my life in that moment, and you know, sometimes that
can just happen.
Speaker 10 (24:10):
So yeah, it's sort of super exciting where that happens.
Speaker 11 (24:14):
But I'm still sort of trying to, you know, stay
humble and know what my game plan is normally going forward.
I'm not going to be someone who's hunting wickets. I'm
going to be trying to limit those runs and do
what's best for the team.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
And we saw you with the shoulder injury at the
end of last season. Everything's all good though with the
body heading into this processon Yeah, no.
Speaker 11 (24:32):
It's feeling really good. Still a bit of rehab stuff
with the shoulder, but I'm feeling a lot stronger, getting
my throwing loads up, and then yeah, it's just sort
of it's a matter of when you're doing this in
pre season, you don't then have to back up and
perform on the weekend or through the week.
Speaker 10 (24:48):
So it's really sort of helped me moving forward.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
And what are the promises given to when you come
down as a Tiger? I suppose does everyone started on
the same level and you've got to prove yourself for
them to get you here? Do they say will play
X amount of games?
Speaker 11 (25:03):
Voy's basically said, you know, I'm a good look for
both formats, but you know, I've got to work hard
and train hard with the boys. Boys have been really
accommodating and helpful. It's the first time I've done a
lot of this sort of gym stuff. So there's gym
exercises I'm doing and I'll read it on the board
and I have no idea what it is, so I
got to ask people get showed. So I'm a bit
(25:24):
sort of in the infancy stages of some of this
preseason stuff. But yeah, I'm sort of just enjoying it
and going from there.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Tiger's squads in an interesting spot. I suppose you've got
some experience and some really young players you're excited about.
Speaker 10 (25:37):
What they could do this season though, Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 11 (25:40):
I think you know, the vibes in the group at
the moment is everyone's working extremely hard like preseason. I
think you know, it's really good because everyone's pushing themselves
as well, and I think you know, we're hungry.
Speaker 10 (25:55):
Blokes are young, they want to make a name for themselves,
so I think it's going to be really good for
us moving forward.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
About the Hurricanes, obviously some really good individual things last year,
lot yourself coming on and things like that, but we
haven't tasted the oldermates success yet. You confident we could
be there when the whips are cracking in the BBL two.
Speaker 10 (26:10):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 11 (26:11):
I mean I think last year we won six out
of seven home games, so I mean we've made this
place a bit of a fortress, so I think, you know,
if we can and sort of looking at the schedule now,
there's a bit of less travel associated.
Speaker 10 (26:26):
I think there's bigger breaks in between, so I think,
you know, if we.
Speaker 11 (26:29):
Can use that to our advantage, and really sort of
push teams when we were away from home as well.
Speaker 10 (26:34):
Then I think we've got a great base moving forward.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Well, Patty, great to see here is a Tiger as
well as a Hurricane. Now, good luck for the season
and thanks for joining us on the water boys.
Speaker 10 (26:42):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
There's Paddy Dooley, Brent. What a first season he had
with the Hurricanes. A really shrewd pick up, wasn't he
because he played the one game against the Hurricanes ironically,
but he was one of the leading we could take
takers in the competition at a terrific strike rate. The
economy was down before unfortunately the injury which you guys
touched on then. But yeah, really looking forward to him returning.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
As he said, this is his first full pre season,
so imagine that with under his belt. Obviously, conditioning probably
wasn't where he would have liked to have been through
the Big Bash, but yeah, with the pre season under
his belt, Yeah, the world's his oyster this summert Patty Dowley,
There's no doubt about that. That's a big first hour
in the can Can. But we've got lots to coming out.
Number two, would you like to run a short place.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Yes, well, we'll touch on all the overnight scores for
those people that might have just been waking up this morning,
including a big win to Brisbane overnight. Marcus Leep, one
of the trio of either re signings or new signings
for the jack Jumpers. We're going to be talking to him,
which would be great. Some big games in the AFL. Brent,
we're finally rid of after this weekend.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Yes, thank goodness.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
It's goes for too long something. Do you agree to it?
Speaker 3 (27:48):
One week? Have all the state games?
Speaker 4 (27:51):
That's a good one. Also just a week off, yep,
I like that. I find it too hard. I like
the symmetrical look at the ladder when we know exactly.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
How many each exactly annoys me.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
Yeah, teams Fantasy football too, I'm not into that, but
I believe no good Tom Siegert, Now, how good is
this going to be? The suburban football? It is going
to be joining us in the studio, very very funny man.
And then the good sport award breath.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Yes, a good winner this week too. Can that's all
coming up for you in extra time with the water
Boys after new Sporting weather. Don't go anywhere we don't
get all Thanks to Tasmak, your local commodit dealer. No
matter what the spot, where.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
It's played or the teams behind it, we've got it.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
This is the water Boys thanks to Tasmac, Devonpord, Montston,
Bridgewater and Smifton your local Kamboda dealer.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Very very crunchy. First, now that we've got lots more
still to come here in extra time Cam Brown. Before
we get to that, let's go through the overnight scores.
A good win for Brisbane overnight.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Yeah, twenty eight point winner is Brisbane twelve twelve eighty
four hippo with four goals defeated the Saints eight fifty six.
So the Saints, after that fantastic start, they just haven't
been able to patch together a consecutive run of form
with I think they've been win loss win loss since
that amazing start, so maybe the other teams have worked
(29:07):
them out a little bit freend. So they're slipping away
from the top four, currently sitting six, and a good
win for Brisbane solidifies their spot in the top four.
One match in the NRL last week, we know it
was Origin. During the week the Dragons eighteen were defeated
by the Warriors forty eight so the Warriors now up
to fourth position on the ladder.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Very nice saying. At the Ashes Women's Test match, Australia
all out for four seventy three Annabel Satal on one
hundred and thirty seven unbeaten if you don't mind. In
reply to England two for two eighteen, Tammy Beaumont is
on one hundred not out a stumps on day two
runners through our number two place, Kemp.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Yes, Marcus Lee, what a signing he is for the
Tasmanian jack jumpers. We know we've lost Oh sorry, well
yes we have lost now ke Josh Kelly and Josh
mcmajett and maybe some question marks about the availability to Magne.
So that becomes a really important position for us to
(30:02):
fill because we know we're an undersized squad, but that'd
be fair to say that jack jumpers Brent.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Yeah, until Marcus comes in and goes bang, he's he's
a huge, huge operator, so it's going to be good
to have that extra height there.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
AFL will preview some of the matches coming up, particularly
your West coast Stiegles Can. I thought they looked a
little bit stronger on papers get smashed today, Can, but
they're not good up at the Horrible right, Well, we
won't preview that game. Then Tom, Tom sigat the Suburban
Football He's going to be joining us live on the studio.
(30:34):
He's been down this week for some speaking engagement. So
we're going to be talking to Tom. That'll be wonderful.
And the Good Sport Award and you've been pumping this up,
one of our best good Sport award.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
It's a good winner, I think. Yeah, absolutely, that's all
to come for in extra time of the water Boys.
We're doing it all thanks to our great partners at
tas Back your local Caboda dealer. Good morning, this is
the water Boys. Thanks for tas Back your local Comboda dealer.
It is the water Boys with Frank Costello and Cam Brown.
(31:06):
Our next guest stands at an incredible two hundred and
eleven centimeters and this week became one of three imports
for the Jack Jumpers for NBL twenty four. I speak
of former Melbourne United big man Marcus Lee, who joins
us on The water Boys this morning. Welcome to the show. Marcus.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
Oh thank you, love you to.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Talk to my friend. Now tell us about the decision
for you to land at the jack Jumpers. It sounds
like it was a pretty easy transaction from both sides.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (31:32):
I think it was a very easy choice on both sides,
or at least from my side. I think Tasmania was
the perfect place for me to land, and we played.
I think we we we do well together. I think
the way we both play, I think defensively, we definitely
compliment each other. And I think that's that's what's going
(31:53):
to make this years very exciting.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
What was it about the jack Jumpers that was particularly
attractive for.
Speaker 12 (31:58):
You attract to me is definitely the way they get
at it defensively. I like, I like being the gressor.
I like that the whole team takes takes this as
as like a chip on their shoulders. They take it
personally with each point, and I think that's what's important.
And they coach definitely like reiterize that often while we're
(32:21):
uh in talks and on the phone just having normal conversations.
And I really like that he pushes and tries to
get each player better. I think this is a definitely
this is definitely a big year for me to expand
and to show the things that I do really well at.
And I think that this is the best place for
me to do that.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
I spiked to Milton Doyle last week and heyfelt having
a year in the NBO now under his built that
he'll become a bit applied.
Speaker 5 (32:47):
Do you feel the same, Yeah, I definitely think that one.
Speaker 12 (32:49):
I think the half year that I was in the NBA,
it was something I got comfortable with very quickly and
then fell in love with.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
And I think that's the biggest reason why I wanted
to come back to the NBL.
Speaker 12 (33:02):
Now that you start getting more comfortable, you see players
starting to burst out and be going from really good
players that we think can be good to amazing like
like Milton, and I think that's that's what this team
will be, is something that you see a lot of
great players do amazing things throughout the year.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
And I believe you spoke to Milton about coming down here.
What sort of advice did hey give to you.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Honestly, he didn't have to sell very much. It was
just the way he came about re.
Speaker 12 (33:33):
Signing says a lot in a team, because that as
an import that doesn't happen often in the basketball world.
So when you're able to see just that, you you
see how much a person trusts, the coaching staff, the
the meet, the regular staff that you work with on
a daily basis, and the players, So that that speaks
more words than any anything that you can actually say.
(33:55):
And I think that was the biggest thing. But what
he what he said with he just he I think
he said what I thought was what they were going
to say, is that their real deep, their family oriented
team and organization. They like fighting, They're very they like
they love getting better, and that's that's all you can
ask for as a player, is a place that you
(34:16):
can trust to make you better and to make you
for at home.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Absolutely new Jack Dabas recruited Marcus Lee is a very
special guest on the water Boys. This morning, I heard
some unfortunate news during the wake Marcus that Will magn
I will have an interrupted pre season due to a
nocky cop diver in spin. But once Will is out there,
how do you see yourselves fitting in together?
Speaker 12 (34:36):
I'm very excited to see this play through. We're two
a little bit of two different types of big men,
but we're two big men that that work very well together.
I think as you look down a lot of great teams,
you see always see two big co existing and supporting
each other. And that's what really gets you gets the
(34:57):
teams going, is when you have multiples of each position
and they're pulling for each other. That's when teams start
getting dangerous.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Yeah, there's no doubt about that now. As I said
off the top, you played with Melbourne United last season.
You actually torched us in a game at mars Dyke
banker Reina in January. I remember that pretty well. But
how do you feel about coming up against your own club.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
At this point? Their family.
Speaker 12 (35:18):
I've gotten a lot of calls already from them saying
congratulations and everything from nothing but positivity. It'll be fun
to see to go back uh to Melbourne and and
give them a good fight and for them to fill
the pain a little bit. But definitely excited to go
(35:39):
back and see a lot of the people that I've
gone I've grown fond of.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
And Marcus Laye, what's your off Sizon look like? Could
you hate anywhere else I play? After the NBA Sizon
wound up?
Speaker 6 (35:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
After NBL season, I played in Italy.
Speaker 12 (35:53):
I finished the season out out there, which was pretty
was great season for us as a whole. And then
now I'm home, you know, after a year's worth of basketball,
you always have a little bit of things you got
to repair, So getting a little rest. I got a
little rest in and now I'm back into training and
(36:14):
getting ready to head back to you guys, or head
to you guys very soon. So just really excited about
that and trying to make sure I'm in the best
populs possible shape for that.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Yeah. When now we look through to show you in Tasmania.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
Uh, the goal is to enjoy a little time at home.
Speaker 12 (36:31):
Like I said, we're still getting this new house underway
that we that we're looking into, and from then on
we're kind of just taking a step by step and
I think we're looking into August is around the time
we'll we'll get all together as a team and start
start working hard for it.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
Yeah, fantastic, And last one before let you guy, Marcus,
what are you am? I just looking forward to about
belding a jack jumper.
Speaker 12 (36:56):
Honestly, I'm It's crazy but to say, but I'm looking
forward to the battles in practice. You really get a
team that really fight every second of every day, and
I'm really excited to see how these how these games,
how these drills going in practice. Because those are the
that's when practice starts getting fun, is when you really
start competing, and I think this is a really good
(37:18):
team for that and I'm really excited to see that
go underway.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Marcus Lay, great stuff, mate, Awesome to spend some time
with you the week you've sawn with the Jack Jumpers.
Thanks so much for giving up some of that time
in your off season, and we look forward to seeing
you here in Tasmania really soon. Thanks for joining us
on the water Boys.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
Oh I'm excited to be there.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Well.
Speaker 12 (37:36):
Thank you guys for you know, get being able to
talk to me for this little, little little amount of time.
Speaker 5 (37:42):
And I'm looking forward to getting there and we.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Can't wait to see you here. To Marcus Lee, the
new Jack Jumpers recruit joining us on the water Boys.
Stick around. We've got plenty more for you this hour
on the water Boys. Not so far away as Tom
Saygert the suburban Footballer, but up next to Cam and
I take a deep dive into round fifteen of the AFL.
That's after this. I'm the water Boys doing it all
thanks to tas Back, your local Cobota dealer. This here's
the water Boys, thanks to tas Back. Your local Cobota dealer.
(38:08):
It's the water Boys who the Brent costel on Cam Brown.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Turning their attention to the national game. It's the water
Boys AFL ramp.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Let's have a look at round fifteen so far. All
started back on a Thursday night, that sickening hit between
Gary Rowan and Jeremy Cameron. Great to see Jesse Cameron
posting a video to social media yesterday just saying he's
okay because it looked really nasty, didn't it. Brown in
Gelong's win over Melbourne.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
Yeah, and when I guess I was watching it like
you're on the television, and when there's a bit of
reluctance to show yes the vision of it, then you, yeah,
unfortunately get drawn to some of the worst case scenarios
and think the injury could be quite significant. But I
would have thought the best possible result for Jeremy Cameron.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
Absolutely in a good win by the Cats.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Yeah, well that was really important game. I'm not sure
what it says about Melbourne. I don't think Melbourne have
quite worked out what their structure is forward to be honest.
I noticed Ben Brown kicked a couple of goals last
night for Casey I actually think it's time for Ben
Brown to return to the team. I don't think Van
Ryan is actually setting the world on sitting the world
(39:13):
on fire. Really. They rely very heavily on Bailey Fridge
for their goal. So yeah, Melbourne would be slightly disappointed,
and Geelong really stepped it up, particularly in the last quarter.
They got hold of them late g They're hard to
beat down there, aren't they. So we're saying it for years.
But that's important for the Cats because it really would
have made it potentially pretty hard for them. They would
(39:34):
have lost a little bit of touch with the eight game.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Without Paddy Dangerfield and that team as well. Last night
we spoke about it off the top of the hour.
It was Brisbane twelve toelve, eighty fourth and killed at
eight eight point fifty six. A good win for the
Lions on the road, who've had some question marks around
their form at the MCG. But I think Eric Kipwood
said post match they're winning record on the roads actually
fifty to fifty so not too bad, but they just
need to win at the MCG. This is at Marvel
last night, of course, But how do you says Bridge
(40:00):
at this stage of the season.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
Well, I think they're doing what they need to do
really and obviously they've got a few concerns with a
couple of people out of the team. It's been much
what it's been highly documented in Richard Gunsen, so apparently
they're doing a training block. They're like, you know, you
think they'd being their best twenty two come the end
of the season. I reckon that would be the plan
for the finals. But they're certainly getting some greater consistency
(40:23):
up forward from the likes of Hippwood and Dana who
they kick six goals. I think Rain is emerging as
a really dangerous forward for them. We mentioned Dunkley earlier
of what a recruit he's been so and Andrews when
he's intercept defending like that. Brent, there's not too many
Well he's a duel all Australian, isn't he last night?
He was terrific last night. So you'd think they've got
(40:45):
all the ingredients to have them well placed. But the
people being putting for the Lions because you know they've
stumbled and not been able to get to the Big
Dance previously, although they won a final last year. But yeah,
really important for them to currently well, but if Essendon
lose to Fremantle today, there are two games inside the
(41:05):
top four, you're gonna be hard to dislodge from there.
What about the Saints just lost a little bit?
Speaker 3 (41:10):
They yeah they have. Yeah, I'm not sure where they'll
end up by the end of the season. They're thirty
two points now. But such a congested ladder, as you
just mentioned, so your long lurking course on twenty eight
points now not only one wing ahead of them, So yeah,
of interesting to so I'm not sure that they're own
homes like, but yeah, it could be tough for the
Saints from here. We'll see.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
We'll revisit the Sydney West Coast preview, Brent. We skimmed
over that earlier. But well, actually let's start with Sydney
because they're a hidden story for mine, currently in the
bottom four. I don't think too many people would have
picked this.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
What's gone horribly wrong there? Cam, you're the analysts here,
have the Grand Final last year.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
I'm the wrong one to ask because I thought Sydney
would would definitely make the eight, like a lot of
people this year. But yeah, they've just really struggled, haven't they.
And look, you just do wonder because history tells you
when you do get a spanking in the Grand Final,
you can be scarred for a period of time. We
(42:09):
saw the Western Bullders got thumped by Melbourne. We know
what happened to Adelaide and perhaps Sydney are in that
boat at the moment. But they do get a sustained
mulligan for mine because they've had significant injuries at the
footy club and losing obviously the mccartins for a period
of time has thrown them down back he and he
(42:31):
probably hasn't come on like they would have liked. They've
got a star in gold and there's no doubt about that,
and they're probably still working out what their best structure is,
like Ford, whether a Marty's a piece McDonald Franklin. With
all those people rolling in and out, they almost might
have won too many tools in the Sydney. But I
(42:51):
think they'll bounce back. I don't think traditionally they're down
and out of finance contention for too long a Sydney,
but yeah, I think they'll be one of the surprise
packets of the year. Freemout of Bean really disappointing. The
last couple of weeks sprints. So to me it is
a must win game. There's seasons on the line after
a couple of pair of a pair of poor results
and they're hosting essendent off the stadium. How do you
(43:11):
see this winn?
Speaker 3 (43:12):
Inconsistent? Haven't they that good win was at the MCG?
Wasn't it not too long ago? And then you think
they're get a bit of momentum back and they dish
up some poor results, as you say, but no, I
think they'll bounce back tonight and off the buy And
traditionally teams haven't responded too well off the back of
the buy, So freemantle for me?
Speaker 5 (43:29):
There?
Speaker 3 (43:29):
What about Collingwood Adelaide tomorrow? That's the one ten game
at the MCG. The corresponding game earlier this season was
absolutely brilliant, with Adelaide a lead for the majority of
the day in Collingwood stormh home late to seal the win.
Can you see the Crows knocking off the Pie? Is
it give them any chance for any Oh?
Speaker 4 (43:46):
Look, I don't think so. Both teams coming off the
buye The Magpie suffered only the second loss of the
season back on the King's Birthday match to Melbourne they're
going to be without Jordan Degoye. But yeah, they get
Durham how back. What a fantastic story that is. And
he's much loved, isn't he Jeremy Howe at the Foota Club.
So there was a real response obviously at the time
(44:08):
when his teammates got around him when he did get injured.
But there were some real excitement and jubilation from the
playing group now that he's back in What a season
for techs Walker. You might win the Colemon.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
It's getting better with age. Isn't he like a fine mine?
Speaker 4 (44:21):
As they say, Well, but that'll be a really good game.
But do you think Collinwood would be too strong for that?
And it's a really important game for the Gold Coast
because they were they were disappointing last week and they
do this to you a little bit, Gold Coast just
when you think maybe this is the year there's going
to be some maturity and consistency from them week in
week out, and that's been the gap for them for years.
(44:44):
You think the point they might be coming and then
they just take that half a step back. Playing at
home against Hawthorne will be tricky because I think Hawthorne
are on track in terms of they've won four games,
which is only a game lesson and I would have
thought at the beginning of the season. I know talking
to some people at Hawthorne like I do, Brent, they
(45:06):
were really thinking if they could get six wins, that
would be an excellent year for them. If you are
just basing on wins and losses. It's all about obviously
game time and development of some of that young list,
so they won't be easy for the gold case, but
they need to bounce back absolutely.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
Let's go to the TSL obviously state game next weekend
which will prove you in depth. Next week Tazzy versus
Coins and for the men and the women can't wait
for it. But today is around twelve at KG five,
Lonston travels down to take on Glenorchy Camp.
Speaker 4 (45:35):
Now Lonchston, it's not their strongest team in it for
the year, so that's no disrespect to some of the
players that have come back into the coming in for
an opportunity this week. We know that the Devils are
playing tomorrow against the Geelong Falcons down there at the Twins,
so some of their players are obviously out of the
Lonchston team and playing in that game. So yeah, they're
(45:57):
all weakened team, but I think they'll still be far
too good with Glenorkey hearing some commentary that maybe Job
Harper might not even come back and play some footy
after that suspension. So we'll wait and see what the
outcome is their other matches. Brent.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Yes, North lon Cessen is at home to North Hobart.
You expect North wanting to win that. They haven't lost
a game since round two camps, so they're flying the
bombers and the probably the game of the round is
it Blunston between Clarence and King Ra That one starts
at one thirty over there. The Tigers obviously having that
lost to Lord at Our last.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
Week, well they wouldn't like it's saying this, but it's
good for the comp as they say, when you know
that took people by surprise, Lord Darla capable of that,
aren't they?
Speaker 3 (46:38):
Top course some headaches. That's the thing that's frustrating Lord
It because they got that really good top end and
they've got the young guys as well, but they just
haven't been consistent.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
That's the balancing act. I think that Alan Christiansen has
said through some of his commentary about how does he
balance that in terms of as you said, they've got
some stars at the top end, but they are rebuilding
or rejuvenating some of the at least by giving some
opportunities to some young player. So sometimes you can have
some form fluctuations in that. But yeah, I agree with you.
That'll be the match of the round today, Clarence.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
For mine, absolutely all right. It is the water Boys
you're listening to as you wake up on this Saturday morning.
That's our AFL wrap. After this, we're going to have
a few laughs with the suburban football Tom Seget He
joins us in the studio. That's next here on the
water Boys doing it all thanks to Tasmack, your local
Cobota dealer. This is the water Boys, thanks to Tasmack,
(47:29):
your local Cobota dealer. It's the water Boys with Brancostelo
and Cam Brown. What is that We're going to run
out from the back line. We've got sick Dog, Red
Dog and mad Dog.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
I reckon, we are in one.
Speaker 6 (47:40):
Can we make it our mission today to push back,
get in the hole, make it own number one objective.
Speaker 10 (47:45):
The red Dog.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
Doesn't get his hungry dog kicked on it for the year, because.
Speaker 6 (47:50):
No fullback wants that, especially when you consider he's only played.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
The four games.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
That is the voice of a very funny man, Tom Siegert,
who is the suburban football and Tom is with a
in the studio this morning. Get a Tom Good.
Speaker 6 (48:02):
Hey, guys, you did well to find a bit there
without a swear with so you've done well. We would
have had to dig deep.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
I was careful. Hey, welcome to Tazzy. Tell us a
bit about you and this character you've created. I suppose
it's become so popular.
Speaker 6 (48:17):
Well love I'm a local footy tragic so so I
played my first game of footy when I was when
I was seven.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
I'm forty five. This is this could be the first
year I go a season.
Speaker 6 (48:30):
Without playing playing a game. I've retired about fifteen times.
And yeah, just just love my footage. And also I've
been doing stand up comedy for about twenty years, and
about eight years ago I joined the two and wrote
a little one hour I guess you'd call it a
play about the suburban about growing up playing playing local footy,
(48:51):
about a about a battling coach who who lost his
who lost lost the team.
Speaker 4 (48:57):
They didn't like him. He was hopeless.
Speaker 6 (48:58):
They didn't won a game, the team was going to fold,
and it was Yeah, it was meant to be just
just for the Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Perth Fringe,
but it just went it just went crazy.
Speaker 4 (49:09):
Yeah, my very first show, I did a trial.
Speaker 6 (49:11):
Over in Perth and I came out from behind the stage.
I looked into the audience and the front row was
Nick nam Nui Prittis and I was.
Speaker 4 (49:22):
Like, oh my god, something's this is big.
Speaker 6 (49:25):
And a few of those guys really enjoyed it, tweeted
it or you know, shared it on their social media
and just went crazy. And every show sold out and
after every show people had come up and say, oh,
we've got to get you to our club. So I
adjusted the show slightly and yeah, that was six seven
years ago and I've been performing it every Saturday and night,
every Sunday, every Friday since It's it's been amazing the
(49:49):
way it's the way it's worked out, because it really
was meant to just be for the for the festivals outstanding.
Speaker 3 (49:55):
And I guess you got plenty of material to work
with because there's so many characters in suburban football that
you would have seen over the journey that no doubt
you've got certain bits and pieces out of each person.
Speaker 5 (50:04):
So many.
Speaker 6 (50:05):
And what you realize doing it is every club thinks
they're unique. But every club so I like, you know,
like you know, and and yet not every club has one,
but I do. The creepy trainer that has the wandering hands,
and and and every every club, you know, just just
laughs at that. And there's always the you know, the
(50:27):
president that's got his hand in the till things like that,
and so and and every club goes, oh, I thought
that was just us that happened, and and and the
and the coach that that just just carries on and on,
and it's more about hearing his own voice and yes,
so yeah, it's yeah, people have people have really enjoyed it,
and it's gone, well, I'm loving it.
Speaker 4 (50:48):
Tom Seget the suburban footballer joining us live in the
studio this morning on the Water Boys. Now, Tom, obviously
you're in tazzy. What are the speaking engagements this week
in for you?
Speaker 3 (50:57):
So?
Speaker 6 (50:58):
So got Clemont was the Claremont Clermont last night and
I always get this. The Thursday night was Linda's fan.
Linda's fan, yep, so Linda's fan and I turned up.
There was about three degrees and the Linda's fan boys
were training and they were doing having shirts on shirts
off scratch match which I nearly got in the car
(51:21):
and just went home. It was ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (51:24):
And tonight Winyard the Winyard Winded.
Speaker 6 (51:30):
Footy Club tonight. So that's a bit of travel getting
to see a fair bit of Tassy. But yeah, great
great clubs down here, great great cultures, real real old
school footy clubs loven't it?
Speaker 4 (51:41):
And a serious question if we may. Obviously it's very
topic at the moment, the potential of a if L
Tasmanian team, and we know there's some conjecture around the
stadium and if that isn't built, obviously it looks like
the stadium is going to be in jeopardy. But what
is the commentary coming from the mainland about tasmane bid
at the moment.
Speaker 6 (52:01):
Well, funnily enough, it's obviously huge topic down here. And
last night I was asked to take photos with the
build the build, the stadium billboard, billboard and and look,
I'm not a massive watcher of the news, but I
my vibe amongst me and my friends on the mainland.
(52:21):
As you say, is I thought it was all systems go.
I thought it was all happening, and it was. It
was no dramas, and it was all rosy and everything was.
Everything was happening. And then you come down here and
you're like, there's a bit more to it. There's Yeah,
it sort of seems to have divided the community. I
just thought everythone would have been with it. And I
actually caught up with someone down here who's in the
(52:42):
comedy industry yesterday and he was the He was against
and I was like, I can't believe. I didn't know
there was another site. I thought it was like, let's
get a team, let's get a team, let's get a team,
let's all get together, get this team. But I didn't
know there was another site. But yeah, so that was
That's just my take. I was really prize that there
was even another site, Like I thought it was going
(53:04):
to bring in the state together, but it seems to
have almost done the opposite.
Speaker 4 (53:09):
Unfortunately, the narrative and I guess, yeah, it's been taking
control a little bit politically, and we know obviously the
yeah they're saying about sport and politics. State mixed, but
it's very much topical at the moment and depending on
which side of the fence you sit on and even
your allegiance politically. So yeah, disappointing, but we'll see how
it all plays out. We know you've got some speaking
engagements this week. When are you back in Tazzy next?
Speaker 5 (53:31):
Ah?
Speaker 6 (53:32):
Back at about about for five weeks? Yes, come down
here a bit, absolutely love it, just just great clubs.
And yeah, so back in about five weeks and.
Speaker 4 (53:42):
When you said you're still playing at forty five, how
often do you played? So is that you coming in
doing a function and playing footy for that team or
how does that work?
Speaker 6 (53:51):
I did do that for a little while with a
few mates, also comedians. We would come and play for
the club. But then yeah, that was no longer a
good thing having us play for them. The phone stopped
ringing for that request. Let's let's just say that.
Speaker 4 (54:07):
But no, this is my old club.
Speaker 6 (54:08):
So I've played nearly three hundred games for Corfield Bears
back back in Melbourne and yeah, officially retired yeah probably, yeah,
seriously six or seven times. But during COVID I really
got back into it because my wife wanted me to
hang up the boots and all of a sudden, hanging
out with me every day for two hundred and forty
seven straight days. She was like, so, have you ever
(54:29):
thought about putting the boots back on? So I did
go back for a little bit after COVID. Yeah, so
this year just because I'm so busy, but now three kids. Yeah,
probably won't get the chance to pull on the boots
this year, which will be strange first time since I
was eight.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
As I said before I let you go, Tom, can
you give us a few nicknames I suppose that you
hear around the local footy scene.
Speaker 5 (54:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (54:50):
Well, it's one of my favorite things about footy is
the nicknames you hear. Some absolute beauty, some suitable, some
definitely not. But one of my favorites was actually cooled
to me when I I first moved from the country
to Melbourne. For the first six years playing footy in Melbourne,
everyone called me. All my teammates called me Bondy or
Bondi Beach, which I absolutely loved because I thought they
(55:12):
called me Bondy because I was pretty cool, pretty trendy
and good fun. But I later found out they called
me Bondi because I wasn't manly which was a little
bit of a kick in the guts. But yes, that's
my favorite one, very good, favorite, suitable one.
Speaker 4 (55:30):
I will say, I.
Speaker 3 (55:31):
Love it very good. So you're at the footy clubs tonight,
but here in a few weeks time as well, So
keep your eye for Tom Sege if you want to
go and watch The Suburban Football a very very funny man,
very very funny show. Thanks so much for coming in
and joining us on the water Boys this morning. Tom,
appreciate it, no dramas, thanks for having us. Very good
Tom seget joining us in the studio. He is the
Suburban Footballer and you can see him across Tasmania in
(55:52):
a few weeks time. As we just said, we're going
to get to a break on the other side of it.
We wind up the show with our good sport aboard
here on the water Boys doing it all thanks to
tas Back your local Coboda dealer.
Speaker 5 (56:00):
This is the water Boys.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
Thanks to tas Back your local Cobota dealer. It's the
water Boys. We're winding up another show. But before we
go home, it's.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Been doing the hard yards this week thanks to McDonald's.
It's time to announce the next winner of the water
Boys Good Sport Award.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
Yeah, we love this segment. We get to look after
someone doing a wonderful job in the local sporting community
with one hundred dollars to spend it into sport thanks
to McDonald's and fancy juicy chicken covered in crispy mouth
watering spicy coating. Try the mc spicy range at macas cam.
Who's our winner this week?
Speaker 4 (56:31):
Isabella Doua is our winner this week, Brent.
Speaker 7 (56:33):
Now.
Speaker 4 (56:34):
Isabella is involved in the sport of karate. Now Isabella
teaches self defense for free to those who can't afford
it and recently won the Tasmanian Young Achievers Award in
bringing communities together. So a thoroughly and well deserved winner
this week Isabella Douar and the sport of karate. Brent.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Very good, Isabella, you win one hundred dollars to spend
it into sport thanks to McDonalds. And if you'd like
to nominate someone for our Good Sport Award, head to
the website of the station you're listening to us on
it right now. Dominate them. There could be a player,
a coach, a volunteer, or anyone else that's doing a
wonderful job in the local sporting community. Now, before we go, Brownie,
I've been asked to give this song a bit of
a spin. It's about Tasmania's push for an AFL team
(57:13):
and the stadium as well.
Speaker 6 (57:15):
Now Tazzy is divided as it's always been, the North
and the South and the blessers in between.
Speaker 5 (57:22):
But we must come together because.
Speaker 7 (57:24):
We all have a three.
Speaker 3 (57:25):
We need to be the champions Flora to say yes
for Tassy. So that's Yes for Tazzy by Heath Brett.
You can find that on Heath Brett's Facebook page. You
listening to the whole track. We haven't got time to
play at all unfortunately this morning, but it is there.
If you're a passionate supporter about Tazzy's push for a
team in the stadium, they go to Heath Brett's Facebook page. Hey,
(57:46):
before we go to I want to give the dates,
the next dates that our man Tom segets in Tasmania
the Suburban Footballer. Of course, you'll be at Hillonville Footy
Club on August ten, Glenorki Footy Club on August eleven,
and Auguston on August twelve.
Speaker 4 (57:59):
That was a good fun chat very funny man and
just talking to him off fair. He's got some really
great views out about Tazzy and Tazzy football, so I
really enjoyed talking to him.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
Big show. What's on for your weekend? Cameron?
Speaker 4 (58:11):
Pretty quiet this afternoon, but I'm going to go down
to the Twin Avils tomorrow the NAB or not so
much the NAB but eight under eight any championships. It's
the coach coach tomorrow, so a double headed with the
boys and the girls playing, so we wish them all
the best.
Speaker 3 (58:25):
Very good. That's it for another episode of the Water Boys.
We'll do it all again next Saturday morning. Hope you
can join us in and have a great weekend everyone,
