Speaker 1 (00:00):
No matter what the sport, where it's playing, all the
teams behind it, We've got. This is the water Boys
thanks to Tasmag, Devinpord, Monceston, Bridgewater and Smifton, your local
Kboda dealer somehow.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Coming and tuck themselves out. It scored the four points
tonight by twenty two.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Amazing win for the Maggies.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Good morning everyone, lovely to be here with you all
this morning after a very nice game of football last
night where my co host Blair Brownless's mob Geelong got
rolled by Collingwood to start the AFL season. The Raining
premiers are none and one.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
To start the season. Baby, how are you?

Speaker 5 (00:52):
Yes, good morning brown I'm actually okay because Collingwood were very,
very good actually, and I thought Gelong played well. It
was a high scoring you' doubt, one hundred and three
to one hundred and twenty five, and when both teams
get over one hundred you know you're in for a
good game. But Jezz moved the ball well. Collingwood, they
can go coast to coast. I reckon I did that
about five or six times easily.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
And that's why I had them top two. That I'm
going to take you.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Back last week, who did you have out of the
eight and I was bullish about them.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I had Collingwood out Bleary adjust my.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
Top four team. They are as good as anyone going
around Collingwood and Geelong. We're about their scoring at one stage.
They just could not miss a goal at one stage,
so fantastic. Condition is not a big crowd at the MCG.
We've had two blockbusters to start the season and there's
another big game tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Absolutely looking forward to that, the Doggies and the D's.
We'll get to that a little bit later in the show.
We got some overnight scores to.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
Roll through though, yes we have now what about the
state league? Netbore the Southeast Sons in their very first
game last night and we'll have a special guest on
later in the show. The captain four points wasn't enough
against the Kings and Blues who got sixty one. And
what about Australia. The One Day Series have started in
India if you may have missed it. With all the

(02:09):
fanfare of the footy, Australia all out one hundred and
eighty eight. Dismal Dismal in India got that easily five
wickets down.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Mitch Marsh was good eighty one start three for forty nine,
but that's a horrible result for the Ausit in game
one of the One Day Series last night we had
the A League in Adelaide, United consolidating second spot. Big
win five goals to one over Wellington Phoenix in Adelaide.
That's a huge result. And a couple of games in
the NRL last night the Dolphins the new kids on
the block at their first win thirty six against the

(02:39):
Night's twenty and the Roosters twenty to eighteen winners over
the rabbit Os.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
So plenty of scores from overy night.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Tazzy too drawing the cricket against Queens and we'll get
to our man retiring in a minute. Tim Payne in
the week that was, but so we've got a big
shower head Runners through the first down Barry Well.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
It's a big show. We're going to talk about the
week that was and was a great week. A lot
of sport. We did say about the Netballna Cooper's coming in,
she's the South East Sun's netball captain. Then we're going
to talk a little bit of soccer. We're going to
get the Denport striker in because the season starts down
here at the moment, and then we're going to racing.
Richie Robinson, the Inevitable goes around in the All Star Mile,

(03:17):
the Golden Slipper in Sydney as well today, so we'll
talk about the big race meeting.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Absolutely Blair bears on TV more than at the moment,
heavy on the radio.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
If he's getting anywhere here of the time near you brand,
he's getting some time.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
This morning.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
The Devil's Girls kick off this morning at UTAs. Starting
we'll talk to Jody Clifford, the coach of the Devil's
on the show, will dissect and look ahead to around
one of the AFL Trey Armstrong too, who's coming back
to play the Northwest Thunder. That's going to be good
to catch us. I think he might be. I think
he might get to that. And big night ahead tonight
and we'll get to this a little bit later in
the show. Big Harness Racing meeting at has many A Cup.

(03:59):
Steve Devro will join us from the Tasmanian Pacing Club.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
That's all head over the next couple of hours.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Don't go anywhere, strap yourselves in for some fun and
frivolity here on.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
The water Boys.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
This is the water Boys thanks to tas back your
local Koboda dealer.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It is the water Boys that were that brentcoss Sell
on Blair Brown.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Reflecting on score from the past seven days. Here's the
water Boys, weak and wise.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, plenty going on as always locally, nationally and internationally.
Let's start at home because one of the greats called
it a day yesterday following the Tigers Sheffield Shield match
against the Bulls at Blunston Arena, Tim Payne announcing his retirement.
Before we talk about it, he has how it played
out yesterday afternoon at Blunston Ana.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
This looks awfully like a farewell for it.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
Does we have a farewell? That's it?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Wow, in a moment.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Here we have it. No fuss from Tim Payne.

Speaker 7 (04:48):
I think we said a few times this week he
was happy just to drift off into the sunset without
the fanfare, just to see his family there, his brother Nick. Yeah,
that looks like it's it, wishing him well, so no fuss,
that's right.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
That was the pain way out in the middle with
the gloves A sad day, our man gone, Phoebe.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
We loved Tim, yes, absolutely, but well cut his teeth.
His media career here on this show when we very
first started, as you know, but what a career, as
you said, twenty three tests as captain of Australia. That
is huge and you must remember when he first took
over the captain see you know, the Australian crew team.
We're in a world of pain after that tour of
South Africa and the ball tampering.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
And just getting back there too after that's when he
was here when he had that injury in doing the
show with us. To think where he came from, to
get back to where he was it is an unbelievable story.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
Well he told us when he was here early when
he first did that finger injury, the finger was actually dead.
There was no blood flow going into the finger. So yeah,
as you said, to get back from that was remarkable.
Do you know what, Dad, Brent, I'm going to say this,
he batted better for Australia than he did for Tasmania.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Honestly, get some good knocks.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Yeah, his actual career and his test average was very
solid and probably better than his first grade, first first class,
first classes. The word I'm looking for career as well,
but you'd think that it's him a career in the
media for.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Him, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
I think he's more learning towards the coaching thing and
he'd look after that part of his life first and
then if the media career works into that. That's that's
my thinking where he'll go from having conversation with him
in the past. That could change, obviously, but that's where
I think he's learning.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
And interesting now. He'd have to rate as one of
the best glovement the country has produced, so clean to
spinners to pace, he's been recognized as that. He'd be
right up there with the very best. I mean, I
mean Gilchris wasn't March. They were very good, but Pain
was cleaner than probably all of them really.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
And you just wonder if he didn't get that injury
early yours, how much international.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Cricket he would have played too. So what on Pain?

Speaker 5 (06:58):
Yeah, we do, and I'll tell you he'll be happy.
Nick Pahang Gota mention him his brother as well. Yeah,
there's something about these brothers that hang on the kts.
You have a hard look at yourself.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
We might get China on actually, just to talk about
what it's like to live in your brother shadow.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
We've got a little club going now.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Just on the Tigers. That's the end of their season. Yes,
the last Sheffield Chill game. It's been poor after Christmas
time and the Big Bash because they were set up
beautifully in both the Shield and One day competitions and
we absolutely stuffed.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
It exactly right. They did get the batter's got no
runs when it counted and then late in the year
the last two games Bo Webster one hundred and sixty
eight night out Silk got one hundred and one in
the second innings there, Jill got ninety eight. Been great,
Jill got ninety eight and you've got one hundred against
Wa as well. But they got late when it was
all over, you know, when the season was cooked. But jeezus,

(07:52):
there's a lot of change there. We know Peter Siddle,
he'll definitely go to him, sorry, won't he It will
turn back to Queensland. Matthew Wade won't go around again.
You'll do the twenty twenty circuit. And Nathan ellis yea
interested in him, isn't there.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
I've heard he might be staying and signed a new deal,
so that's good news escally. The Hurricanes, Yeah, absolutely Hurricanes,
but I think with the Tigers as well, so I won't.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
See what happens there. That's the rumor of the Dutches.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
They're going to be active, aren't they recruiting wise? Yes,
very interesting over the winter.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Another big story during it was a league expansion. Obviously
they're going to Canberra and Auckland next.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Why is it obvious they're going to those two?

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Well, not obvious, but I don't think football task is
too displays because I think they weren't targeting this round expansion.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
They're targeting to be the fifteenth or sixteenth team.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Let's have a listen to Matt Bulkeley the Football Tasmonia
from during the week.

Speaker 8 (08:48):
It's consistent with the conversations that we've been having recently
with the APL. We know it's not inevitable, we have
to have we would have some work to do and
that's what we're working with the APL on understanding what
the key require.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Bitar So there it is. It's an interesting one for me.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
The stadium at Macquarie Point, they're a bit luke warm
on it Football Tasmania because it's going to be too
big for him.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Let's be honest.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Twenty two thousand seats stadium knowing that many people aren't
going to go to the soccer and watch it it's
an oval shape. They want a rectangular pitch, so they
need to retractable seats and even then is it idea?
I don't know, but we need the content that new
stadium too, so they have to have to go there,
let's be honest. And I think the APL is okay
with that, but Football Tasmania seem to want the rectangular themselves.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yeah, it's interesting it is. You know where they should go,
North Hobart and they need a I know it's an
oval shape, but it's not a big oval shape. And
the A League game we saw there this year was
fantastic and there's views everywhere on that ground and you
could convert it to a rectangular shape temporary league.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
You couldn't do it permanently with that cause a bit about.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
Right, Yeah, we're cause a bit of upbraide, But don't thge.
We're talking about the winter and summer sport as they
currently sit, so you could PLoP it in there no problems.
But yeah, so are we any chance at all? Do
you think for that fifteenth and sixteenth we are?

Speaker 4 (10:09):
But I worry about it because it's the same time
of the year as the Hurricanes, at the same time
of here as the Jack Jacobs the tennis. You've got
some stiff competition and you know, different markets potentially, but
you're finding for the same sponsors. You want the same
kids to begun along to your games.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
As they are going. So yeah, look it'd be great,
but is it sustainable. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
Well, the whole a league they're talking. Should they move
to a winter competition as well? Be perfect winter competition,
that'd be perfect. Yeah, then you've got our own tasty
team definitely to compete against.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah. Absolutely, Let's go to footy.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
I hope about footy club in a world I heard
at the moment and they're doing all they can to
get players up there. They've got a dart there this
morning from ten I think, with a barbecue after training.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah, coat of arms and.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Then Josh Maundy talked to him, Yes, say the president
of the footy club. He's flipped through some you t
all about a night they're having this Monday, six o'clock
at the TCA ground train with football legends Jay Shiltz
and Matthew Armstrong, all current new players welcome, So get along.
If you're looking for a game of footy, get along
to the hot footy club and try and help them out.

Speaker 5 (11:13):
Yeah, the Dire Straits. During the week they had eight
at training and ten so they are in a world
of paying poor old Hobut Football Club. So yeah, if
you can get along and help them out. There's another
club in the south really struggling as well, Branch New Norfolk.
They look like they were only field they senior team.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
It's extra, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
It is for our football loving community like New nor
Fake to only field the senior team. That's that's a
real concern there as well.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
We're talking about two of the great clubs here, Tazzi footage.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
So hopefully things turn around. Let's go to basketball.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
JJ's free agency is heading up and goodness may it's.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Happening plenty going on.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
It hasn't even started yet, it doesn't start to the
end of the month, but there's rumors circulating. Obviously Sam
McDaniel didn't take up the player option on his contract.
He'll go to another club next year. We've got Trey
Armstrong coming up. But later in the show he's made
it clear he'd love to play for the jack Jumpers.
His brother Tanner as well could be a next start
of the jack Jumpers leave college early, so there's.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
A bit going on.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
There's a big going on with the ownership as well,
and we caught up with Scott Roth yesterday. Now, when
the sale goes through, Larry Kesseman, the owner of the
jack Jumpers, said it has to be at least thirty
percent Australian owned. This is what Scott Roth had to
say yesterday about the jack Jumpers ownership.

Speaker 9 (12:29):
For me, it's hugely critical about fifty one percent of
this team is sold to Australians and Tasmanians for us
to move forward, and I'm really hopeful that that's going
to happen. When you start to get other outside things happening,
you can lose your identity a little bit. And to me,
this is a uniquely uniquely situation here in Tasmania and
it needs to be with Tasmanians.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
So there you go. It's an interesting point.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
So he thinks it needs to be at least fifty
one percent so the majority. Yeah, watch this space. It's interesting,
Tom Head, there's no doubt about that. Before we went
up the week that was too let's go and have
a quick chat about Bo Bilden, who sit himself really
proud of the state, proud last weekend against Nakata Zoo.
It's Sydney's Kudos banker and she was a good show.
They hit it well, was packed out and Bo did

(13:14):
himself no harmon because Zoo is a superstar future world champions.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, no doubt about it.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
So well I'm and he's likely to fight back here
in about May I think here in Habard, so that'll
be fantastic.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Get him back home. That is the week that was.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
We've got lots more so to come on the show
this morning now to Jody Clifford with a new Tasmania
Devil's Girls coach will join us. We'll look at the
AFL round one so far and look ahead to the
remaining games. Trey Armstrong, as I mentioned with the Northwest Sunday,
will join us as well. But up next we're talking
netball with Southeast Suns captain Atlanta Cooper. That's next year
on the water Boys or right across Tasmania thanks to Tasmak,

(13:50):
your local Kabuta dealers.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
The water Boys.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
Thanks to taz Mak, your local Kobuta Dealer. It's the
water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless. Now we
mentioned this off at the top of the show.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Blair.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
The Tasmanian Netball League getting under a last night with
the new team, the Southeast Sons, opening the season down
there at their beautiful new stadium at Surrell and joining
us on the line now to have a chat about
it is the Southeast Sons Captain Alana Cooper. Welcome to
the water Boys, Alana, Hi, thank you for having me,
Thanks for jumping on now. Unfortunately it wasn't your night

(14:24):
last night. Kimbra sixty one the Sun's thirty four. But gee,
I looked at the pitches and it looked like an
absolutely full house down there. It must be magnificent to
be in the State Wilde League.

Speaker 10 (14:34):
Yes, it was awesome, so many people came along to watch.
It was really good.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
It was really good. Atmosphere looked like that. But just
talk us through the stadium down there, and because it's
just open and what sort of seating capacity is down there, Atlanta.

Speaker 10 (14:52):
I think there's three hundred plus seats in the gold
outstairs and then they're able to bring in some like
a fold out chairs as well, so that adds a
few more seats as well, and there are a couple
of tables for VIP seating as well.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
That's where Brent rolls. I'd been with the people because
I actually lived down at seven Mile Beach, so Landa.
This is my local team, the Suns here. Yeah, so
I'll be heading down there regularly. But talk us through
the game because Kings and Blues who came forth last
year are really good team. And you guys under boot

(15:31):
and there must have been a lot of nervous players
before the game.

Speaker 10 (15:35):
Yes, we're all very nervous, but very excited as well.
I think we're just all super excited to get out
there and just give it our best shot. And I
think we put up a good game to the first
probably a quarter and a half, maybe two quarters, and
then we just let it run away from us. But
we're very proud of what we put up and we're
so excited to build on that in the coming games.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
Exactly what about your journey you came across from Arrows
as well. Did they just offer you a big contractor
and say come in as captain Atlanta and will you
mega mega dollars?

Speaker 10 (16:10):
No, No, nothing like that.

Speaker 11 (16:12):
I was just excited to come across in all soon.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
So I said this at the press conference the other week. Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
Obviously, Arrows have struggled over the off season, with players leaving,
et cetera. You must feel a little bit sorry for
the situation they find themselves in at the moment.

Speaker 10 (16:26):
Yeah, I do feel a little bit bad, but you know,
it just is what it is.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
No fair cool.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
Now, five teams in the South, two in the North,
and Denport as well in the competition, and traditionally for
the last five years, the two teams in the North,
the Hawks and the Cavaliers, have just dominated this competition,
haven't they, Atlanta, Can you see that changing this year
at all?

Speaker 10 (16:52):
No, I can't do.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
You think it'll be another all Northern grand on Already we're.

Speaker 10 (17:00):
A well groups are very strong this year as well,
so I think they'll probably step up and give them
a bit of a run for their money. But yeah,
they're still going to be very strong and very very
hard to beat.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
What's a good pass back for your team? Do you think, Atlanta?
Do you amount of wins in particularly lying off for.

Speaker 10 (17:25):
Well more so focusing We've got like this little mantra,
No expectations and no limitations. Yeah, so we're focusing on
our game and building up, not necessarily looking at how
many wins or how many losses we're getting. It's just
about that taking those steps and that improvement. Obviously, we
want the wins that we don't have necessary a goal

(17:46):
for that.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
And what about you under nineteen team, how did they
go as well? You got you building some depth down there.

Speaker 10 (17:53):
Yeah, they're looking really good. They had a similar outcome
to us last night, but they're very fresh as well,
and they look like they've got some really good depth
through the court and they'll build up to be a
really strong team.

Speaker 5 (18:04):
Very good to hear.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
All right, very good, Alanna. Well, we appreciate you jumping
on this morning, especially after probably.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
Late after What are you doing down there? Said Maulbach.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
I'm I like it as you should be this early
on a Saturday morning. Hey, I appreciate your time and
all the very best for the season ahead with your
new teeming the South these sons appreciate your time the
water Boys.

Speaker 11 (18:27):
That's so good.

Speaker 10 (18:28):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Alanna Cooper joining us on the water Boys. She's a
star of Tasbani and netball. Speaking of Stars. There's Heaps
Moater come on the show this morning. Not too far
away is part owner of the Inevitable Richard Robinson. But
up next we're talking to the championship winning captain of
the Devenport Strikers, Kieran mul Rainey.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
That's next.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
You're on the water Boys right across Tasmania thanks to
tas Mak your local Kombuta dealer.

Speaker 6 (18:50):
This here's the water Boys, thanks.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
To our great partners at TAZ back your local Kombuta dealer.
It is the water Boys with Brentcosselo and Blair Brown
for Saturday morning.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
He's the water Boys World Game wash up.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Very exciting stuff because the NPL starts today for twenty
twenty three and can't wait for it and this team
we'll be looking for back to back championships in the competition.
I speak of the Devonport Strikers of course, and joining
us on the line this morning to preview their big
clash against Clarence Zebras this afternoon as the captain of
the Strikers Kieran Mulrainey. Good A Kieren, Welcome to the
show mate, good guys, thanks for jumping on mate. On

(19:27):
game day appreciate that first of all, but you must
be excited first of all to have the World Game
back here in Tazzy for season twenty twenty three.

Speaker 12 (19:35):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 13 (19:37):
It's funny like you get towards the end of the
season and you think it's a long season, you're waiting
for the finish, and then all of a sudden you're
hearing the off season and you can't wait for the
start again. Absolutely then comes around like we're finished, cos.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Ago, that's it.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
I'm sure preseason has been tough for you though, and
as I said, you're looking for back to back titles,
which is believably exciting.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
How's the squad look? Does it look different from last year?

Speaker 12 (20:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (20:06):
Very differently. So at the end of last year when
you were going to lose a few guys to the
mainland through various reasons from just moving away and wanting
to try different avenues and things like that and just
just life in general, which to be honest, that happened
to us quite often most years around a few guys changed,

(20:28):
but luckily last year we had quite quite a large
squad and what the depth, which is unheard of for
Devenport really, and we've ended up replacing a few of
those guys. So going into this season where we're looking
like a pretty strong squad again.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
So Karen, not so much many big recruits, more that
you've got outstanding depth in your squad for this year.

Speaker 13 (20:56):
Yeah, we've only probably got one new recruit from last year.
And I saw Luke Bennett from England who previously played
played with Robbie Soccer. He's only just joined this a
week and a half ago, so he's sort of just
getting up to speed a little bit. And then we

(21:17):
had a couple of young guys come across from Olus Somerset,
but they've got a lot of potential, but obviously now
that's get up to speed a bit as well.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
Yeah what about Valley, Right, let's talk about that because
your home ground advantage is unbelievable there and well it's
I feel like it's always rocking up there and a
great atmosphere there. So what can the poor old Zebras
expect today at two thirty?

Speaker 13 (21:46):
Well, yeah, we're lucky down some great, great fans up
there on the coast, and yeah they generally did turned
out and jove for us, which is which is great.
Always act a man for us and yeah, I know
personally all I hate coming Valley Road absolutely both, but

(22:08):
yeah we on the last I guess, yeah, six or
seven years will really turn it in a fortress for
something with that, And yeah, there's definitely no easy point
to coming to Value Roads.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yeah, I've been up there for the f FA cap
or the Australia Captain. It's a It's an unbelievable joint
when it's rocking, that's for sure, speaking of the Australia
Cap here and obviously Drew Wellington Phoenix there last year,
which was unbelievable to have an A league team at
Valley Road. Is that in the back of him on?
So what do you prioritize as captain? Is it the
the league or the Australia Cup or obviously won the

(22:41):
Summer Cup last week and you've got the final series
in the NP on Now there's a lot to play.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
For, isn't it?

Speaker 13 (22:47):
There is this year? I think technically because we've got
another cup with a long test team, we've got five
trokers we can potentially win this year. We obviously all
in our personally and as a captain, I am right,
the league is the most important. It's essentially, the best
team all year wins it, whereas the Cup you can

(23:10):
have a bad day and you're out. Other clubs entires.
The probably raise the Cup a little bit higher because
you get the prestige of it. But yeah, for me,
it's the league first from this Cup second.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Not fair enough.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
I think winning waking wakeout and certainly improves your better
team across the competition all year. Now, what about the
Zebras again, so I heard they've recruited a few, that
they're going up and locking their chances.

Speaker 6 (23:39):
Actually, yeah, they.

Speaker 13 (23:41):
Better than a buzz in their pre seasion with a
few recruits. And yeah, from the outside looking in, yea
went pretty hard at the recruits.

Speaker 12 (23:52):
I watched half.

Speaker 13 (23:54):
Of the game against montestern City's a couple of weeks ago,
and yeah, they definitely look they've improved. And their coach
Rapcorn is.

Speaker 11 (24:06):
Old school and whatever.

Speaker 13 (24:08):
He didn't started last year or part way through, and
they definitely come out with intent and the very physical
expecting what the same that and then they come out
hard early and really sort of put some physicality on
the Yeah, they would definitely improved from last year and
the definitely challenge.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Today absolutely, mate, Well we can't wait for it.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
It's going to be unbelobally exciting to have the NPL
back at Valley Road this afternoon, kick off at two
thirty May. Good luck mate and thanks for joining us
on game down. The water Boys appreciate.

Speaker 13 (24:40):
It as well. Thanks God, very nice.

Speaker 12 (24:43):
Now.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
Of course, the season kicked off last night and Loneston
with the derby up there.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Score well long Sesson two, Riverside Olympic zero, so probably
to be expected with that one.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
Just looking at the odds, Stone if you're going to gamble,
gamb response Devonport dollar two happy, much shorter than that
if you fancy the Zebra's though, twenty nine dollars.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
Twenty nine dollars draws.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Eleven other games this round.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
We've got South Hobart at home to the Kimber that'll
be a cracker at Darcy Street two o'clock today and
Glenorchy Knights are at home the safternoon against the new
team Moncess United.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
And well the Chrminade coach at James Sherman. He said
they're up in about Gnocke Knights, so big season the
head for them absolutely.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
I can't wait for it all to kick off this afternoon.
That is our soccer rap. Don't go anywhere though. Up
next we're talking racing. Big day at Mooney Valley with
the All Star Mile. Richard Robinson, the part owner of
The Inevitable, will join us next here on the water
Boys run across Tasmania.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Thanks to TAZ back your local Combata dealer.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Thanks for tas back your local Cobuta dealer.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
It is the water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Browness.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
We're talking racing on the show now.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
Oh yes, Aul Roads lead to Mooney Valley today for
the running of the five million dollars All Star Mile.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
We cannot wait for it.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
And representing us on the big stage is The Inevitable,
which we're all super excited about. And one man that
has wrote Ridden every Bump with the Inevitable is one
of the part owners, Richard Robinson, who's been good to
us here on the water Boys and it's great to
have him back on the biggest day of all a bear.

Speaker 11 (26:18):
Welcome back mate, morning morning, Blair, thanks having me.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Great to have you on.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
It is huge, isn't it when you actually sit down
and think about it, to be in this race, this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
How are you this morning as you wake up?

Speaker 11 (26:31):
No, I'm good. It's finally come. It's been a long
sort of six seven weeks. The campaign went well, and
please report the horses in magnificent condition this morning. So
it was very excited.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Now before we get to the important stuff of how
the horse is going to go, I want to hear
about what's going on off the track because the inevitable
ownership Blarry is full of superstars, and I want to
know what it looks like. How many of you gone
over and how's the last couple of days, and more importantly,
what's it going to look like if you go well
to That's a place i'd want to be.

Speaker 6 (27:03):
I reckon.

Speaker 13 (27:04):
Oh, yes, there's bad.

Speaker 11 (27:06):
So there's about twenty five owners and I'd say twenty
of them are in the state at the moment.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Oh wow, five missed five missing out. That's extraordinary.

Speaker 11 (27:15):
Yeah, have a good excuse. Thursday, vo we had a
function to meet the owner ambassador, so that was really
nice of Racing Victoria to put that on. And then
yesterday they were very lucky. We went to the Emerald Hotel.
Another radio station run a competition to have lunch with

(27:36):
the inevitable, and about sixteen people turned up, so andy
for the Emerald to put lunch on for us from
one o'clock to six, So magnificent afternoon.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
That's fantastic. You took the foot into on Thursday night,
didn't you? You guys as well, Yeah, yes.

Speaker 11 (27:51):
We ventured. We left the all start mill function around eight,
just walked across to.

Speaker 14 (27:55):
The g So terrible, very lucky.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Now, now, Richie, should we load up at the juicy
odds of twenty dollars to win? Or should we be
more circumspect and take the four eighty for the place?

Speaker 11 (28:13):
Gabble responsibly the message right now? I think look to
be honest, plaire. If we have all the luck and
with that sort of thinish in the first four or five,
probably a bit flat. So I think that the four
door eighty for the place is a really nice little bit.

Speaker 5 (28:29):
I think so too. I mean, you're up against Alligator
Blood two dollars eighty favorite really good horse, mister bright
Side at six dollars. I'm thunderstruck at six dollars fifty,
so some quality horses, but the preparation, like you said
back here at Hobart Racing around Tasmania actually was absolutely
outstanding there.

Speaker 11 (28:47):
Yeah, it's been faultless. Obviously we're six from six taken
on the big guns. But as I said when I
was on the show last time, when we've Scott's risen
the bar, he's been a step up. So hopefully today
there's no exception.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
What about the horse Beert what makes it so special?
You've obviously had a long association, it's been through its
ups and downs, but what's it mean to you?

Speaker 11 (29:13):
It's all the relationships you develop off the track. You know,
you go to lunch in Melbourne on a Friday with
sort of ten of your good, really good mates, and
these are the memories that you'll sort of you have forever.
We're in a no I losion, will never ever been
in this position again, We've been a golden needle now
with the All Star mile like these are sort of
pinch yourself moments that when you first go into a

(29:36):
horse five years ago, you don't expect your hope, but
you don't expect that you're going to end up on the
big stage that we have, so you know, these are
the memories that will have been created forever. From a
personal point of view, obviously, Scott in all their mates
into like late teens. My young kids love the horse
that was a car, say the name, the inevitable so called.

(29:57):
All those sort of connections there that really made the
story better.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
It's a great story, and well done to you as
an owner. You tip your money in early and just
hope and pray that your horse makes it all the way,
and certainly yours has with the All Star here, I
just wanted your advice to Richie. I want to just
switch over to the Golden Slipper. My brother Billy has
got his horse in Steel City at thirteen dollars any

(30:23):
chance there?

Speaker 11 (30:23):
Do you think he's a bit of a bad game.
I'm not really a Sydney form expert, but at one
will last week Blair I did winning form is good form.
So how about we take the double?

Speaker 5 (30:34):
That's what That's what I'm all over, actually exactly, that's
a very very good bet.

Speaker 11 (30:39):
Well done bere Way for the weekend.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
What's it look like be win, lose?

Speaker 4 (30:45):
Whatever happens today, what happens after the race post?

Speaker 11 (30:49):
I'm going to be perfectly honest. I haven't thought about
that after part of it, Okay, I was still focusing
on them now there's a couple of options around a
young fellow and ham More who's got a wine barby Yes, yep,
I did say I may call you on Saturday at
about four point thirty, so we'll nestle in somewhere after

(31:10):
the race. But as I said, with so exciting, the
deity is the horses will so they we're all very pumped.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Well, good luck mate.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
We can't wait to watch it twenty fast forwards the
jump I think, and all the tasty will be glued
to it, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
It's very very exciting. Indeed, good luck mate, we're thinking
of you. Thanks boys, the very best there he guys
Bet Robinson, part owner of the Inevitabence.

Speaker 5 (31:32):
True though the whole state's got behind it and because
you had to vote the horse in to get in there.
So it's been fantastic campaign that's been run and it's
there and Jesus exciting. There's something about horse ownership and
being an owner and investing early and see it come through.
It's extremely exciting.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Of course Tazzy has good form in the race too,
with Mystic Journey winning the year I think it was
yes back in yes, So we're we've done it before
we could do it again.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
I know, and jeseus it's running well. It's running really
well as Tazzy Forman has been outstanding. And it's one
in Melbourne, it's one in Sydney, so yeah, it's a
big chance. It's a big chance.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Bring it on four twenty. The South can't wait for it.
That is it for our first hour of the show
this morning. We've got lots coming up though in extra
time after New Sporting, where the Jody Cliff with the
new Tasmania Devil's Girls coach will join us. We'll look
at AFL round one so far and prove you what's
to come. Trey Armstrong for the Northwestern will join us
as well Steve devrou from the Tasmania Pacing Club ahead

(32:34):
of the Tasmania Cup tonight. That's all ahead for you
in our two of the water Boys thanks to Tasmak,
your local Kombota dealers.

Speaker 6 (32:40):
The water Boys.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
As always an enormous first hour of the show, but
we've got plenty more sill to come here in.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Extra time of the broadcast.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Before we get to that, though, let's go to the
overnight scores and blurry that start.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
With the foot Eakers you talk about your long losing now.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
The Cats went down to a very good wingward team
twenty one points and high scoring affair in front of
a big crowd at the mcg and it was a
great game and were two good Conningwood.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
They were indeed NRL last night it was the new
team the Dolphins thirty six to twenty winners over the
Newcastle Knights and in the late game Sidney Roosters twenty
two South Sydney eighteen.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
We had one game in the A.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
League last night, so a big win for Adelaide United
five goals to one over Wellington to consolidate second spot
on the table.

Speaker 5 (33:28):
Yes, and what about the local netball State League Southeast
Sons on Daboo thirty four went down to Kingston Blue
sixty one. And also this train crew team in the
one day against India pass all out for one hundred
and eighty eight no good and India cruise to one
hundred and ninety one for five wickets down.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
And the Tigers drawing with Queensland in the Sheffield Shielders
with farewell Tim Paine from.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Cricket, very very sad it was.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
It was great but we're up because we've got a
big second hour of the show coming up four this morning,
Too far Away is Jodie Clifford, the new Tasmaniy Devil's
Girls Coach. We dissect and look ahead to round one
of the AFL so far. Trey Armstrong Northwest Thunders Do
You Recruit will join us as well, which is really
exciting and Steve Devro to wind up the show from
Tasmani and Pacing Club will also announced the next winner.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Of our good sport War that's ahead over the next
sixty minutes.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
Here on the water Boys don't go anywhere doing it
all thanks to Tasmack, your local Kabuta dealer.

Speaker 6 (34:24):
This here's the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
Thanks to Tasmack, your local Commuta dealer. It's the water
Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless. This morning, very
exciting day. All the sports are back this weekend which
is unbelievably exciting and it is Round one of the
Coach League which is the old NAB League Girls competition.
Ten o'clock this morning is the first bounce that Uta
has started in between the Devils and Gws and so

(34:50):
close to the bounce it's lovely of Jodie Clifford, the
new coach of the Tasmani Devil's Girls team, to join
us here on the water Boys morning.

Speaker 15 (34:57):
Jodi, How are you good? Thank you? How are you guys?

Speaker 4 (35:00):
We're well and excited about what's to come this morning.
Not as excited as you though, probably. This must be
amazing that the season's finally rolled around.

Speaker 15 (35:09):
Yeah, it feels like it's been a long time in
the making, generally the girls in January, so I feel
like we're up and about and we're ready for this.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Before we get to the team, let's go to your role,
because you're new into the role, as we said a
moment ago, But what was the attraction for you to
get involved. We know you've had a long association with
women's footy here and Tazzy, but it must have been
an opportunity you thought you couldn't give up.

Speaker 15 (35:32):
Yeah, and I've been lucky enough to be involved as
an assistant coach with the Devil's program for the four
years before this one. So when the position came up
full time, a couple of conversations with Jeremy Webley and
Jamie and Gill and I thought it was time. And
I've been in education for fifteen years and I guess
I see this as another branch of education. It's just

(35:54):
my CLASSROOMDS on a football field. So it's a really
nice opportunity for me to combine my passion for football
but also my passion for education and creating lifelong learners
in a field that they're really passionate about.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
I like the way you put that all together, Jodie
myself as a teacher as well. That is fantastic. But
tells you announce your leadership group and you'll be captained
by Alveston player Candace Belbn tell us a little bit
about Candace and how she got the captaincy.

Speaker 15 (36:24):
Yeah, so she's a really strong leader for us. She's
a nineteen year old in our competition this year and
I'm playing as an overager. During the preseason and even
towards the end of the back of last year, I
guess we've seen some really strong leadership attributes from Candace
and she connects naturally with the players. So obviously, with

(36:44):
our competition and we have three regional hubs, it can
be challenging for us, but Kandas is one that whenever
our group's together, she's interacting with the different regions and
really trying to pull the girls together, so as well
as her on field life leadership, she's really clear, she's
really dedicated, and she really leads by example. So it

(37:07):
was it was a pretty natural selection for us.

Speaker 5 (37:09):
It sounds like it now, Jodie, who's some other players
we should look out for us? I've got some personal favorites,
Georgia Clark, Grace White, Maddie Lean, Meg Harrison. Well, they're
all great players. They also go to Guilford Young College
as well. But there are a couple of those players
I mentioned also in the leadership team. So who should

(37:30):
we look out for? Who do you think will have
a big season?

Speaker 15 (37:33):
Jodie, Oh, look her team. Her team's riddled with talent,
and I guess that's a really exciting thing. And we
can look across all the lines and we've got fifteen
debutants today, and I guess in a talent program where
we're looking at that we have the girls for tour
two or three years. That's always going to happen. But
some of our debutants I think are going to take

(37:55):
some people by surprise. So young Lily Nash from the North,
she's going to play in the midfield today, we've got
Lucy Thompson who's from down the Northwest coast. She'll play
some port in mid field time Jazz Thompson who has
a massive athletic profile. She's going to play off half
back for us and on a big ground. We came
and had a walk around on UTAZ Stadium last night

(38:18):
before our Jumper presentation and some of the athletic ability
of the girls, it's really exciting for them to be
able to play on such a big ground like Utaz.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
It certainly will be exciting. Fifteen on taboo there that
is huge. And one of your stars is injured day
has done at ACL and that's Brooke Barwick. She had
an outstanding season last year and she's writing draft calculations
for this year issue. She'll be out of all season,
will she Brook?

Speaker 15 (38:46):
Yeah, So she'll have a knee reconstruction at the end
of this month. But she's very much involved in our team.
So she made a trip up last night and she'll
be now coach's box today.

Speaker 12 (38:57):
So we've put.

Speaker 15 (38:58):
Her into the development field Coach and I think it's
really important for her and her development to see the
game from a different perspective. So even though she can't
be out there playing. I think there's still so much
for her to learn as a player from being involved
in the coaching side of things. So she's such a
positive young girl, and yes, obviously there were a few

(39:20):
moments where things are tough for her, but the way
that she's readjusted to and set the new goals for
this year is phenomenal.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
What about JWS JDI, What do you know about them?
It's hard round one, I guess when it's the first
game of the season.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
But you know much about the Giants?

Speaker 15 (39:34):
Yeah, no, a little bit hard. They're pretty running side
as well, so it'll be a really even match up
in terms of that. So we've got a couple of
runners off half back, but I think they've also got
some injury, so I've watched a couple of their practice
matches and one of their talented forwards has also got
a season ending injury. But they've got a couple of

(39:56):
young girls that are in the AFL Academy, so well,
we'll watch out for them. But for us in round one,
it's just about going out and trying to execute our
game plans. So we'll make adjustments throughout the game as
we need to. But we've just tried to educate the
girls on the style of footy that we want to
play and hopefully they can bring that today.

Speaker 5 (40:16):
And what about what are the girls doing right now?
Because around here, an hour or so away from the
game is a big team breakfast that they're partaking in.

Speaker 15 (40:25):
No, just a low key breakfast. I think some of
them might be a little bit nervous, so probably just
a little bit, maybe a little bit of cereal or
some vegiemon on toast. But yeah, so they're having breakfast
at their hotel and then they'll they'll be here in
the next ten minutes or so to start our game
day preparations.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Very nice.

Speaker 4 (40:43):
Now, before we go, I've got a hard hitting question
for you, jodyan us to ask you about your goat
named Friday.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Is that right? Your goat's called Friday.

Speaker 5 (40:51):
Friday, Yes, yes, I have.

Speaker 15 (40:53):
I have a number of goats. They all start with F.

Speaker 12 (40:57):
That's all the goats.

Speaker 15 (41:01):
Young Friday was born on Friday, wow Paddick at midnight,
and his mum decided not to feed him, so he
became quite the mascot because he had to come everywhere
with me. And then the poor little bugger broke his league,
so it meant he got a little bit more attention,
so he loved it. But Friday won't be here today.

Speaker 13 (41:24):
Focused on I love it will done.

Speaker 4 (41:27):
Thanks Jody for your tom especially only an hour or
two away from the bounce. That's good of you to
get up your time and good luck today against the Giants.
Appreciate your time on the water Boys.

Speaker 13 (41:35):
Thanks very much, kid, very good.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Jodie Clifford there the new coach of the Devil's Girls team.
Can't wait for it.

Speaker 5 (41:41):
Exciting for Jadie. I mean, I mean because Jeremy Webley
coached both the male and female teams last year and
so Jodie's taking over the female team and doing a
great job. So very exciting times.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
Absolutely plenty more footy to come up next, we look
at the AFL Round one at preview and review. So
far the Trey I'm st are not too far away
to with Steve Debro from Harness Racing being gone ahead
at Elwick. That's all to come on the water Boys
for you this morning thanks to tas back your local
Kbota dealer.

Speaker 6 (42:07):
This is the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (42:11):
Yes you are locked to the water Boys for your
Saturday morning. Doing it all thanks to Tasmack, your local
Cabota dealer, Ats Brancostela and Blair Brownless turning.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
Their attention to the national game. It's the water Boys
AFL ramp.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
Oh, it's great to have footy back, it really is.

Speaker 4 (42:24):
And let's go back to Thursday night, Blarry, because it
was a draw to open the season. Hello, scoring affair
was a fifty eight apiece and just great to see
Lockie Cow and Deboo subbed out late in the game,
but had a handful of kicks and handballs and tackles
and that tackle he got early on and it looked
a little high got the frea kick anyway.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
It was great to see. Man, what a wait to Deboo.

Speaker 5 (42:47):
It didn't look out of place, did they? Lucky Cow
and eighty eight thousand there. So can you imagine making
your taboo?

Speaker 2 (42:55):
You can't imagine.

Speaker 5 (42:55):
It really is huge, and I mean the scheduling from
the AFL. Absolutely, they've nailed it for around one terrific
games and like we said, there's another good game on
tonight and the one last night, but big crowds. The
footy is back, the weather's good in Melbourne and so
it's been an electrifying start to be honest, and that

(43:15):
game the drawer in the end, and both teams when
it's a draw like that, both teams think they could
have could have won or should have won it. But
particularly Carlton I would have thought they had more chances
to win. But now it was great to see that one.
And then we rolled into last night of course with
the Cats and JESU are up and about early in Collingwood.

(43:36):
Collinwood a club that can always hang around and they
can kick goals in a row. They can really turn
on because jes A play attractive footy. Collin would just
bring the ball back through the middle and they just
get a chain of play from the backs to the
forward line and can score heavily, so high score and game.
It was interesting the contrast. It was like watching the

(43:56):
reserves on Thursday night Richmond and then watching the big
boys come out last night Geelong and Collingwood.

Speaker 4 (44:05):
And thoughts too with Jeremy Howe. Oh sickening incident. Fractured
forum is the official diagnosis that looked seven minutes the
game stopped for I can.

Speaker 5 (44:16):
Tell by the impact and I've had that situation myself,
when you're out of control, your leg's been taken out
of you. It's sickening feeling as you plummet to the
ground and.

Speaker 4 (44:27):
Saw the still photo. So from ground level he was
high and he was to.

Speaker 5 (44:31):
See that that was unbelievable. And yeah, so we wish
him well, we hope you hope he gets back in
the second half of the year. But such a great,
proud Tasmanian, absolute superstar for the clubs. So that's all
the best for Jeremy and his family. And what about today?
And now look there's look been crowds of eighty eight

(44:52):
thousand and eighty six thousand, but the blockbuster today is
at Marvel Stadium, North Melbourne. Take you on the old
conquering West Coast Eagles.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
Yes, I'm up and about for it. Wait, well, what's
the battle for the wooden Spoon in round one?

Speaker 5 (45:09):
It is North Melbourne of favorites here, so that means
West Coast are the favorites to get the wooden spoon.
Chucking Hawthorne maybe for the spoon as well, but we'll
just gloss over that one.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
Know that newly know you for West Coast. Actually, before
we go this.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
Year, there's that a little bit podgy last year that
a little bit podgy the West Coast Eagles.

Speaker 2 (45:30):
Weren't they just on the north.

Speaker 4 (45:32):
What do you make of Alastair Clarkson picking cherry over
gold stare?

Speaker 5 (45:36):
Yeah, making a little statement a stair.

Speaker 4 (45:39):
That's a fair point though, isn't it. I mean, but
he could have gone into a long gold and he
stayed oil. Yeah, I know, and and then that's what
you get.

Speaker 5 (45:46):
I know, I know what it will be in round
two gold Stain will back you put your house on.

Speaker 12 (45:52):
That, Okay.

Speaker 4 (45:53):
I can't wait for port Adelaid Brisbane to see the
debut of Will Ashcroft for the lines that's going to
be specially made player.

Speaker 5 (45:59):
We spoke about that, and we spoke about comparing him
to Nick Dakos last thirty five possessions.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
Josh look good too.

Speaker 5 (46:08):
This would be huge because Brisbane Lions have got some
nice recruits as well.

Speaker 4 (46:11):
Brisbane for me, poort under enormous pressure this season, Ken Hinckley,
isn't it Yes?

Speaker 2 (46:14):
Have a good year?

Speaker 5 (46:15):
Was he in your eight? I picked them out? Had
them out, had them out yew. He's the big one, yes.

Speaker 4 (46:21):
Big one to Melbourne Western Bulldogs seven twenty five at
the MCG.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
Who do you like it? I want to pick.

Speaker 5 (46:27):
Yeah, I like I think Melbourne will be happing about
that after the last year's disappointment towards the end of
the season. Mind you, they were ten and zip early
in the season. But Western Bulldogs I love it because
they've had no toll forwards ever since Chris Grant retired
years and years ago, and now they've got four four big,

(46:48):
big guys and the forward line, so I'm hoping they
can win based on that. I'm going for Western Bulldogs
and Melbourne's a favorite day.

Speaker 4 (46:55):
Brownie's gone to that game, so hopefully he's not skulking
at teen to because he likes to suck.

Speaker 5 (47:02):
He don't you over analyze everything like that? Yeah, him
and his son said will be there. I'll be talking
on about the footy and what went wrong.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
Coat Sydney at whatever that stadium is called now up there.
It's not Metric on.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
The Magic HBS HBS is it bank?

Speaker 10 (47:21):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (47:22):
That sounds fine?

Speaker 2 (47:24):
Gold Coast Sydney, Sydney for me?

Speaker 13 (47:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (47:26):
Yes, Patty McCart and who was on the show last week,
and they will give.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Him back there too. Just quite from that segment, do we.

Speaker 5 (47:33):
Get to the Goods Border War from another one. But
there's some good feedback about that, people in the streets
talking about young Nash, nine year old Nash meeting his
hero Paddy McCartin. That was huge. But yeah, now Paddy
got a little perk from that and he's talked to
his brother and now they're both up. So they can't
kick goals against the.

Speaker 2 (47:51):
Gold Coast tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (47:53):
We've got three games, one tens the early game g
WS and Adelaide at Giants Stadium.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
Brownie had load and hiss eight this year.

Speaker 4 (48:00):
When you when you think he did, when you think
about it, probably aren't going to be big improvers. Yeah,
maybe not quite that much, but but that'd be better.
Like Berry coming through.

Speaker 5 (48:12):
He's got the C grade midfield. Midfield is about C
grade at best.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
They'll improved, they.

Speaker 5 (48:18):
Have a crack, they have a crack, they'll come twelve twelve. Yeah,
very good.

Speaker 2 (48:24):
So you're going for the Giants, Yes, yeah, I.

Speaker 5 (48:26):
Like the Giants. I think they could be a sleeper
this year. I think they're a new coach and they
could you could be just miss out on the top
eight a.

Speaker 4 (48:35):
Speaking of new coaches, you would not want to be
Brad Scott if you lose this game in round under Hawthorn.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
Imagine the pressure on the Monday night shows.

Speaker 5 (48:45):
Two meter Peter just signed a big deal and then
got injured in this shoulder, which is really sad. He
could be like Danaher, you know, I always had that
injury there when when Danaher was out there. So then,
but do they win the bombas I think Hawthorne will
be up about young and enthusiastic. I reckon we wear
a few rounds, they could be up and about them.

(49:06):
I think Hawforne will win that one.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
I'm looking for the four of the day of Cam
McKenzie as well. He's going to be a start for
the Hawk.

Speaker 4 (49:11):
You'd like to look final game of the rounds and
killed a frere and I don't win this too with
Saint Kildo's injury list.

Speaker 5 (49:17):
Thank you the round they're limping to the line that
day for round one. That's not a good start. Free
They will play some exciting foot you this year themselves
and you can they win in Melbourne is the big
test for them. But surely they'll get over the top
of Saint Killer.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
You think.

Speaker 4 (49:33):
So that's our around one preview and preview, So we'll
go to around two next week. Obviously, when the season's
well and truly underway, we have a bit more of
an idea how these teams are going to go in
twenty twenty three. Lots more so to come on the
show not too far away withounce the next win of
our good Sport Award and speak to Steve Devreux from
the Tasmania Pacing Club. But up next it's the new
Northwest under recruit and hopefully future Jack jump I'm strong

(49:55):
joining us on the water Boys. Thanks that taes back
your local Koboda.

Speaker 6 (49:58):
Dealers st the Boys.

Speaker 4 (50:02):
Thanks to Tasmak your local Koboda dealer. It is the
water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless.

Speaker 1 (50:08):
It's time to shoot some hoops as the water Boys
talk all things basketball.

Speaker 4 (50:12):
Our next guest this morning is a Tasmanian basketball star
who's just finished up his college career at California Baptist
in the United States and is now returning home to
play for his old club, the Northwest Thunder in nbo
One at some point. He also hopes to get a
gig with the Mighty jack Jumpers. Trey Armstrong is our
guest on the water Boys this morning and trade welcome mate,

(50:34):
First of all, tell us how it all came about
that you'd be returning to the Northwest Coast.

Speaker 16 (50:38):
Early on in the college season, I sort of decided
that I wanted to get back and play Ambia one
straight away instead of doing a summer of just working
out or you know whatever that would have looked like.
And I knew that Hazy was going to coach, and
I knew that Sam was going to jump on board

(50:58):
with the Thunder again this year, so they made it
pretty easy just to say, look, I'd rather play for
you guys than anyone else in the country, so let's
get this thing done. And It's happened, and I'm super
excited about it.

Speaker 4 (51:12):
Yeah, fantastic stuff. Now, are you still in the United
States at the moment?

Speaker 16 (51:16):
Yeah, I'm still in Riverside. I fly back on the
twenty second of March, so I get in with about
a week to practice with the boys and just get
acclimatized for round one against the Charges.

Speaker 2 (51:30):
Yeah, and that'll be a massive match hap in itself.

Speaker 4 (51:33):
Now, what's it like knowing that you are coming home
and being around familiar friends and family and places, and
knowing you're going to be playing Aussie basketball again.

Speaker 16 (51:41):
Yeah, really excited to be home, to be back on
home soil, you know, just to have family be able
to come watch me play and be around friends and
just be in a really comforting environment while still striving
to take that next step to the next level. I
think it's the perfect thing for me at this point,
and I think it will be a great couple of
months for my development and hopefully we can get the

(52:03):
thunder some great results as well.

Speaker 4 (52:05):
As I mentioned before, four years in the college system,
So what do you expect the standard to be.

Speaker 2 (52:10):
Like when you get back here to Australia.

Speaker 16 (52:11):
Well, I've obviously followed it really close over the years
I've been in school, but I know that the league's
gotten better each and every year, and because of the
shortened MBL season, there's going to be a lot of
you know, MBL guys playing, So that's great for the league,
it's great for me, and I think the imports are

(52:32):
just getting better year by year as well. So overall,
I think the product's going to be the best it's
ever been and it's perfect for you know what I
want to get out of it, and I think us
Thunderboys have put together a nice squad as well.

Speaker 14 (52:45):
So I think the standard's going to be really good.

Speaker 16 (52:48):
Obviously, different from what I'm used to over here, you know,
different sorts of athletes and schemes and things like that.
I think it's going to be more fast paced, you know,
probably better offensive concepts back in Australia, which I'm really
looking forward to.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
Yeah, I bet.

Speaker 4 (53:03):
Now on the other side of the coin, how do
you feel about leaving the US because you've called that
place home for some time now, so that must be
a bit of sweet as well.

Speaker 16 (53:11):
Yeah, it's definitely a bittersweet obviously. You know, created a
lot of great relationships over here, and you know, got
to play with my brother, which was which was an
awesome opportunity, and you know, I'm really thankful for my
time here.

Speaker 14 (53:23):
But I'm really excited to get back.

Speaker 16 (53:25):
And I've been excited for a little while to get
back on home soil, to be honest. So the fact
that that's, you know, on the horizon now is I'm
super stoked for it.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
What is your number one memory from over there? You
mentioned playing with your brother, but there's anything else stand
out for you in particular?

Speaker 16 (53:40):
Yeah, that was the number one thing for sure. Been
able to play. You know, two seasons with him was unbelievable,
awesome experience and you know we've become much closer for it,
very grateful for that opportunity and there was a bunch
of good moments along the way, but overriding you know
that that was the highlight for sure.

Speaker 4 (53:59):
Tasmanian basketball start. Try Armstrong is our guests on the
water Boys this morning. Tray, You've been a million miles
away from the Jack Jumber success here in Tasmania, but
no doubt you've been swept up in it.

Speaker 16 (54:10):
Oh yeah, I've been fully locked in, you know, watching
every game and you know, whatever time of day the
boys have been playing, it's been awesome to see.

Speaker 14 (54:18):
You know, I'm regardless of what the future holds for.

Speaker 16 (54:20):
Me, I'm I'm a fan, a major fan, and it's
been so cool to see how those guys have started
and the culture that's that's been built, and you know,
really exciting and you know they're going to keep on
getting better too.

Speaker 14 (54:33):
It's really cool.

Speaker 4 (54:34):
Have you had any discussions with them yet about your
future potentially with the club? Recently, Mark Radford, who I'm
very close with, has been over in the States with
me and Jacob Chance was on campus a couple of
weeks ago, so it was great to see those guys.
And I think that they watched a couple of practices
and some games and stuff, and we didn't get any

(54:55):
into any specifics.

Speaker 16 (54:57):
I think that stuff may happen a little bit down
the tr track, but it was nice to connect with
those guys and just have a chat with them about
know how their season's been, and it was cool to
show them what life's like for me over here. Nothing
specific has come from that yet, and maybe some stuff
will come down the track soon.

Speaker 2 (55:18):
No dealings with Scott Roth directly at this point then.

Speaker 14 (55:21):
No nothing with Scotty yet.

Speaker 16 (55:23):
I've been told by my father that he's going to
come and work me out in a.

Speaker 14 (55:28):
Couple of weeks or so, so I'm looking forward to that.
I haven't talked to Scott directly though, that's just that's
just from.

Speaker 16 (55:34):
Dad and from Mark Radford that he's got to come
down and give me a little workouts.

Speaker 14 (55:38):
That will be fun.

Speaker 16 (55:39):
But in terms of any specifics and contract stuff, nothing
as of yet.

Speaker 14 (55:43):
And you know hopefully that that sort.

Speaker 16 (55:45):
Of stuff will will come to Fruition soon and as
well as the other clubs that maybe interested.

Speaker 4 (55:51):
So absolutely, Now just on that, do you see your
way into the NBL next season as a development player
or fully contracted player?

Speaker 16 (56:00):
You know, I think I'm a very confident bastoot player.
I think that I'm going to be by the time
it comes to giving out contracts and from my planing
and bill one that I'll be able to earn a
full contract spot somewhere. But I understand that, you know,
being a development player, you know, is still you know,
a great achievement and something that can be a stepping
stone to better things.

Speaker 14 (56:19):
So I'm not against anything.

Speaker 16 (56:21):
I'm open to, you know, all avenues, and I'm also
open to potentially going overseas as well, So I'm not limiting,
you know, my options to anything specific, and I'm going
to you know, analyze and assess all my options with
equal gratitude.

Speaker 4 (56:38):
Is that the dream though, I mean Tazzy Boy coming
home now has the opportunity to play for an NBL
team anytime state?

Speaker 2 (56:46):
Is that the ultimate for you?

Speaker 9 (56:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (56:47):
I think at whatever point in my career, whether it's
you know, right now or in the future, I want
to play for Tasmania one hundred and you know who
knows what this year's going to look like and what
the next couple is it to look like. But I
know for a fact I want to be playing for
Tasmania at some point.

Speaker 14 (57:03):
In my career.

Speaker 16 (57:04):
And you know that thought alone is thrilling and very exciting.

Speaker 4 (57:09):
And just on your brother, Taran, mate, there's a lot
of rumors here at the moment that he could leave
college a couple of years early and return home like
you have, potentially be a next start with the Jack Chappers.
I'm not sure if you want to speak on behalf
of him or not, but any truth to that.

Speaker 16 (57:23):
There's a lot up in the air with Taran right now,
nothing confirmed at all. He's We've just finished our season
very recently, so there's still a lot up in the
air and a lot up in the air, and he's
deciding himself what he actually wants to do next year, and.

Speaker 14 (57:37):
That could look a lot of a lot of different ways.

Speaker 16 (57:40):
That could be the NBL, that could be staying in school.
You know, there's plenty of stuff in the up in
the air for him. But I know for a fact
that he's interested in the NBO absolutely, but nothing concrete
as of yet, And we'll just see how that develops
over the next couple of months.

Speaker 4 (57:58):
I suppose, yeah, fantastic. Is that a common thing these
days that someone would leave college a couple of years
earlier before they're supposed to.

Speaker 14 (58:06):
No.

Speaker 16 (58:06):
I think these days, when you're entering the college system,
especially if you're an a leade Australian basketball player, you're
going there for basketball. Obviously the school side of it's important,
but we both knew going in that we want to
be professional basketball players and we are utilizing the college
system as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

Speaker 14 (58:28):
So, you know, whilst the.

Speaker 16 (58:29):
School stuff sobviously very important, you know, we're fully set
on making money as basketball players, so you know, whatever
that looks like, we both have attacked that. So I
think it's becoming more common for guys to leave school
early and chase whatever pro opportunities are out there, especially
with how good the MBL is right now.

Speaker 14 (58:51):
It's just an.

Speaker 16 (58:52):
Unbelievable league and the competition is it is awesome, and
I think we're starting to see how good the development
paths can be also, and I think the Jack Jumpers
done the best job of that as we can see.
With you guys like Shawnee Mack and I was like,
why you went to the next level playing for the
jack Jumpers, you know, showing that it's not just about

(59:13):
getting there and performing, you can actually get better. Wish
you're in the system as well, So yeah.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
We'll try whatever happens.

Speaker 4 (59:19):
Mate exciting times for you, your brother, the whole Armstrong
family here in Tasmania. We can't wait to see you
back home playing for the Northwest Thunder in NBA won
this season. And appreciate your time on the water Boys
this morning. Great to talk to you, appreciate it.

Speaker 14 (59:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (59:33):
There he goes Trey Armstrong joining us on the water
Boys and wouldn't it be unbelievable to see the Armstrong
brothers in Jack Jumpers uniforms as soon as next year.
Don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, but
that would be a fantastic site for all. All right,
we're almost at the end of the show, but before
we do up next we announce the next winner of
our Good Sport Award and we also catch up with

(59:53):
Steve Devro from the Tasmanian Pacing Club ahead of tonight's
Tasmania Cup at Elwick. That is next year on the
World Boys right across Tasburnia doing it all thanks to
our friends at tas Back your local Cobota dealer.

Speaker 6 (01:00:04):
This here's the water Boys.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Thanks for tas Back your local Kbota dealer. It's the
water Boys with Brent Costello and Blair Brownless.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
He's been doing hardys this week thanks to McDonald's. It's
time to announce the next winner of the water Boys.

Speaker 6 (01:00:18):
Good Spiderwards.

Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
A lot of pressure on you this week, maybe after
delivering it Nash a chat with Paddy mccarton last week.
But who's able to get one hundred bucks to spend
it into sport thanks to McDonald's.

Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
Well, we did get a lot of good feedback about
last week's winner, but this week is another special one.
That's Young Archie Keeler and now. He was at the
Western United game at North Hobard a couple of months
ago and here was a young player that said to
yelled out to Dim and Tina, can you I have
your guernsey after the game and the player yelled back.

(01:00:49):
The Western United player yelled back, yes you can if
I score, and lo and behold that he scored and
then young Archie went over to him at the end
of the gay Do you remember me? I was the
one that yelled out, can I get you a jumper
if you scored? And so he said, go ahea and
wait by the gate and guess what you Archie got
the guernsey, which is absolutely fantastic. So Young Archie leaves

(01:01:13):
Eats and Breeze soccer obviously goes for Western United and
he also follows Manchester United too and he plays for
the Gonolky Knights. So Young Archie, you're our winner this week.

Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
Fantastic stuff. Archie.

Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
You get one hundred dollars to spend at into sport
thanks to our great friends of McDonald's pick up forty
Chiga McNuggets and Tangy Cajun sauce at macas drive through.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Today's select items available for a limited time And if
you like to dominate someone just like Archie, you can
go to our website at the station listening to us on.

Speaker 4 (01:01:43):
Right now nominate the mccoley player, a coach, of volunteer,
anyone doing a wonderful job in the local sporting community.
All right, we've got a big night ahead tonight, BB
We're off to Elwick for the Tasmania Cup Harness racing event,
looking forward to it. We have this man on the
show a couple of weeks ago to prevay the event,
and he's back joining us this morning. Steve Devereux from

(01:02:04):
the Tasmania Pacing Club, get a Steve good.

Speaker 12 (01:02:07):
How are you?

Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
We are well, how are you.

Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
It's a big night ahead for your organization, the Tasmani
Cup Group one event, one hundred and fifty thousand bucks
on the line for the purse.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
It's very very exciting.

Speaker 12 (01:02:20):
Yeah, it's a big night for us. All the work's done.
I hope we're not organized by now. We're in a
bit of trouble. But there's the Cup and a lot
of other good races. A bit three hundred thousand dollars
on the line, I think, all up.

Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
That right, so very nice, A hot favorite too in
the in the Cup. Where's the gold in New Zealand horse?
No one's near that in the betting at the moment.

Speaker 12 (01:02:41):
No, I think he's probably a bit too short. I
mean he's drawn on the second line. There's staying start,
got many of traffic to negotiate, so you take those
odds at your peril. I would suggest there's a couple
of good local hopes and be the deja vu really
Mark Gal's drive last year in the Cup one heat
got out in the front and rolled along and did

(01:03:02):
the same in the finals. So if he gets the
front and does I saying this is what this year?

Speaker 5 (01:03:06):
Who knows what happens now, Steve. The heats were held
last a couple of weeks. Now checked in one one
and where's the gold one the other one? Hence it's
now favorite. So yeah, as you said, there's some other
good challenges. What about checked in check in?

Speaker 12 (01:03:21):
Oh yeah, he's a chance to have been improved by
the run. So the horse called Boom, he would be
improved by the run. He had had a start for
a few weeks leading into the race. Jeet's always been
around the money and the major threat won a couple
of three for alls early in a year, so he'd
be changed to They've got a bit of off thirty moders.

(01:03:42):
They've got a bit of ground to make up and
got to get around the whole field. But you never
know in the big races when there's a bit of
pressure on.

Speaker 5 (01:03:48):
Now the sun's going to be out and I know
the racing starts a little bit later and we'll cover
off that, but you're expect him big crowd because last
couple of years I've been out there and there has
been a really nice crowd for this one.

Speaker 12 (01:04:00):
Yeah, I hope we'll get along. It's a major event
Saturday night, which we don't get a lot of Saturday
night races. Yeah, it's a good venue, plenty of good food,
they reckon. It's a best race to valleable around town
off the cooked door to mean, if you looking for
a feet on the said you know it did along
and watch some good racing as well.

Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
What about the George Johnson Tuesday? That's another big race.
Who's the favorite there at the moment?

Speaker 12 (01:04:25):
Uh, Miss Stewart's Force is a favorite draw on the
one gate, but the local miss pep Housing from row
here you stay. We would have to be achieved on
a charac last week went to about one fifty seven
on it. So hopefully they like us can hold up
against them. Well it's only really in a Stewart's stale
for Victoria, so hopefully they hold up and bringing the
cash on a few.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
Now, big Big nine ahead out there tonight because Play's
had a bit of a strangle hold on the MC
work out there for a few years and.

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Did one when he wasn't there. But you thought it's
a little flat.

Speaker 4 (01:04:58):
So I've decided to go the So he's decided to
drag me next to the big fella. Just talk us
through the roads in there for it's been a bit
more for more laughs or.

Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
What is it exactly you thought we wanted to add
to it.

Speaker 5 (01:05:12):
He wanted someone to read the news in between entertained
the crowd.

Speaker 12 (01:05:18):
Well, it's actually turned out how I thought break the
Nis was a bit worried with Collingwong might be a
bit flatten. It's probably going to turn out that way.
During the day, I'll get up for it.

Speaker 5 (01:05:34):
Be fantastic. The functions out there are unbelievable, but the
facilities are magnificent for watching the racing. And we bring
along brand so that would be good. That'll make everyone
very very excited into a frenzy.

Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
When can you still get tickets?

Speaker 13 (01:05:49):
Say?

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Can you still get tickets for our function tonight? Or
is it all shut down?

Speaker 12 (01:05:58):
Well? It is and down. But if someone did ring up,
