Speaker 0 (00:03):
Hi, this is
meteorologist Steve Pelletier
and I am the Weatherman.
Thanks for checking in totheweathermanpodcom on Tuesday,
22nd day of the month ofSeptember 2025.
We're into the last third ofthe month already.
It's also the Autumnal EquinoxDay.
Today, monday 22nd of September2025, at 2.19 pm, it's the
Autumnal Equinox.
(00:23):
Now it's the beginning ofautumn, astronomically.
Actually, what we are is at thehalfway mark between the high
point of summer, the high pointof the sun rising early, setting
later northern hemispheremostly in light, and then
getting our way towards thatfirst day of winter, which will
be generally around the 20th tothe 22nd of December, and that
(00:46):
is the shortest period ofdaytime.
Sun rises in the southeast, sets in the southwest, takes the
shortest path across our skiesin the northern hemisphere,
basically pointing away from thesun as it spins, giving us the
least amount of sunshine.
And, of course, when you havean absence of any heat-giving
(01:06):
object, you're going to getcooler temperatures and that's
in fact what we get Nighttime, alonger period of time.
The temperatures go down atnight because of the lack of
sunshine and your averagetemperature is full.
Average temperatures continueto fall through this month of
September.
But we did have a fairly decentday, both Saturday and Sunday,
a little bit of an east windacross the eastern seaboard,
(01:26):
from DC up to the Boston area.
We have one more day of somepretty good weather, but there's
lots of moisture brewing acrossthe nation's Midwest, from the
Great Lakes southward throughthe Ohio and Tennessee valleys,
and that area of moisture willbe moving to the east over the
next few days.
So for today, looking at adecent amount of sunshine
through some clouds and hightemperatures, generally ranging
(01:47):
in the upper 70s and near 80s.
We're in a southerly wind nowthat's going to warm things up
from DC to Boston, but cloudswill be on the increase for
tonight.
It looks like the possibility ofsome showers for both Tuesday
and Wednesday and some muchneeded rain, I might add.
Last time we had some rain wasaround the middle portion of
last week, from an upper-levellow-pressure system and a
surface low that was along theeastern seaboard.
It gradually moved offshore.
(02:07):
At this time some moisturemoving in from the west doesn't
have the greatest potential asfar as moisture is concerned,
but anything we can get we cantake because of the dry
conditions that we've had so farthis month.
So it does look like a littlebit of a clearing trend from
high pressure building in lateron Thursday and Friday of this
week Looked like a little bit ofa clearing trend from high
pressure building in later onThursday and Friday of this week
, but it does look like somerain for the midweek.
(02:28):
Decent day coming up for todaythough.
Highs 70 to near 80 degrees.
Temperatures will be on thewarm side but with a chance of
showers and thunderstorms onboth Tuesday and Wednesday, as
mentioned.
If you're traveling by airtoday, atlanta may have some
late-day showers, but nothingmajor to cause any extra delays
into the Atlanta area.
Central and South Florida alittle bit heftier on the
thunderstorms.
For the later afternoon.
(02:49):
Dry conditions in New York, laguardia, jfk and Newark Also
looking at Philadelphia andBaltimore basically being dry,
as will be DC, some rain movingin later in the day.
Boston also looking on the dryside, but looks like some rainy
conditions in Cleveland, toledoand also in Chicago as well.
A clearing trend in Minneapolis, st Paul, some showers in
(03:09):
Houston, hot and humid in Dallas, fort Worth, maybe some
late-day thunderstorms and drierweather in central and southern
California, but it does looklike dry conditions continue
across the Pacific Northwest.
I'm your moderator, stevePelletier, and I am the
weatherman.
Welcome to autumn, and we'lltalk to you first thing on
Tuesday.
See you then.
