Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is
meteorologist Steve Pelletieri
and I am the Weatherman.
Thanks for checking in toTheWeathermanPodcom on your
Thursday.
It's the 21st day of the monthof August 2025.
Hurricane Erin is offshore andit's going to stay off the
eastern seaboard but it'seffective, causing coastal flood
warnings to be in effect fromthe outer banks of North
Carolina right up throughcoastal Virginia, the Delmarva
Peninsula, new Jersey and, to alesser extent, right now it's
(00:24):
along Long Island and all theway up into coastal
Massachusetts, into the islandsand into southern portions of
New England.
However, that will most likelybe in some coastal flood
warnings by later on Friday andFriday night.
This is going to be, in fact, slowly, gradually lifted from
the south to the north, but itwill be in effect from later
(00:44):
today right through early onSaturday, as the storm will stay
offshore but causing thosecoastal conditions to be quite
severe in the form of excessivehigh tides, beach erosion, rough
seas and, of course, thatcoastal flood in effect for
those places.
Hurricane erin, running about200 miles due east of Hatteras,
north Carolina, at this point ismoving towards the north
(01:07):
northeast at around 15 miles perhour 15 to 20 miles per hour,
and that will increase with timeover the next 24 to 36 hours.
Maximum sustained winds ofabout 105 miles per hour.
Central pressure is just around28.85.
So a very intense storm, butit's offshore at this point as
(01:27):
it goes into the cooler watersof the Atlantic.
As it heads towards the northand northeast it'll probably
weaken just a bit, but stillquite a powerful storm off the
eastern seaboard today.
Otherwise, across the northeastcorridor there is going to be
some extra cloud cover andespecially across coastal New
England where there will beoccasional rain and some showers
, but the showers will begradually moving eastward.
The cloud cover will hang infor a while in New York City and
(01:50):
Philadelphia but then graduallygive way to a clearing trend,
but temperatures cooler thannormal.
Normal highs should be around83, 84 degrees.
We only see temperatures in the70s during the daytime today,
as we did yesterday, and alsolooking at a, a slow, gradual
improvement in our weathersituation for Friday and
Saturday.
Friday after early clouds todayand then some clearing this
afternoon and highs in the 70swith the showers moving east,
(02:12):
friday we get into sunshine of80 to 85.
Saturday also sunshine 80 to 85degrees.
Sunday back to a partly sunnyday, but there might be some
late day showers or isolatedthunderstorms later on Sunday
into Sunday night.
Generally it does look like apretty decent weekend coming up
this Saturday and Sunday.
After the early clouds todaygive way to clearing and nice
(02:33):
weather for the end of the week.
If you're traveling today, itlooks like there will probably
be some slight delays in the NewYork area because of cloud
cover and the storm staying faroffshore but still giving us
that little northeast windcirculation could cause some
light delays in New York, laguardia, jfk and Newark.
Up in the Boston area doesn'tlook like any problems there
(02:54):
weather-wise.
Weather-wise in Chicago niceand clear, no problems there.
And in Houston looks likeoccasional rain and showers and
some thunderstorms.
Dallas, fort Worth, right onthe edge of that, looking at
generally fair conditions.
Central and South Florida underclouds and also showers and
thunderstorms, so some light tomoderate delays into Central and
South Florida expected fortoday.
Atlanta some slight delays, butit will be cloud cover, maybe a
(03:16):
shower.
Similar situation in Charlotte, west Coast at this point
looking fairly good.
It has been pretty dry over theWest Coast the last several
days.
San Diego, la, san Francisco noproblems.
Weather-wise it looks like goodweather in Portland and Seattle
as well, as high pressure overthe Pacific will be moving
onshore.
I'm your volunteer, stevePelletier, and I'm the
weatherman.
I hope you have a great day.
Today.
It looks like we'll haveimproving weather conditions as
(03:40):
we head towards Friday and theweekend.
We'll talk to you first thingtomorrow.
Take care.
