Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is
meteorologist Steve Pelletierian
.
I am the weatherman, and thanksfor checking into
theweathermanpodcom on yourSunday.
It is the 22nd day of the monthof June and we are deep in the
heat Boy.
Summer started on Fridayevening, the official start of
summertime, at least the summersolstice.
Actually, we meteorologicallylook at the first of June as
(00:21):
being the beginning of summerand up until this weekend the
temperatures really weren't thatbad, but about maybe a degree
to about a half a degree belownormal, above normal rainfall.
Of course we've had some prettylousy weather.
But now it's turned and we'regoing to have four days of
excessive heat in themid-Atlantic and northeast.
I know a lot of the nation'smidsection has been having the
heat over the last several days, but it's just arriving in the
(00:43):
east and we are going to pay.
So it's called an extreme heatwarning in effect from today
right up through Wednesdayevening at 8 pm.
We are going to have sunny andhot weather.
Today Highs near 100 in DC,baltimore, philly, new York,
even up in the Boston area it'llreach up to around 94, 95
degrees.
Interior spots in upper NewYork State probably not as bad.
(01:06):
Central and westernPennsylvania also in the 90s,
but not close to 100.
It's going to be 102 for a highin the major cities on Monday
and Tuesday.
But the heat index values, which is a combination of the
heat and humidity and thesunshine, up to about 108 to 115
.
That's really tough.
Take it slow and easy.
Make sure you're well hydratedNow I'm talking about hydrated
(01:32):
with water or juices.
You don't want alcohol.
Just, you're going to cause theheat to go way on up there.
So none of that.
But you are looking at verydangerous conditions if you're
out of noise and exertingyourself.
So just find safety coolingplaces.
There probably will be in someof the major cities, places
where you can go to escape fromthe heat.
And take advantage of every oneof those places, because it
(01:55):
will be quite tough.
So again, sunny and hot onMonday about 102.
Heat index values 105 to 110.
The same for Tuesday, the samefor Wednesday.
Thursday, thunderstorms will bemoving in and high temperatures
88.
And those thunderstorms will bethe leading edge of cooler air
that should arrive for nextweekend as we get into the end
of the month of June.
(02:16):
Last weekend of the month ofJune, now, if you are traveling
on this Sunday, of course, muchof the nation's midsection to
the eastern seaboard under theheat and humidity, scattered
thunderstorms, mainly at thecoast of Florida and extending
down from the Keys up to FortMyers, up to Tampa, st Pete and
even out to Pensacola andTallahassee, and there will be
(02:37):
some scattered showers andthunderstorms in Houston and
Dallas-Fort Worth, but nothingmajor, nothing severe weather.
The severe weather is lookingat west Texas, from El Paso
northward up to Amarillo, andalso some heavy weather across
central Utah, but it looks likein Atlanta it should be dry.
Dry but hot in the Louisvillearea, excuse me, louisville,
kentucky and the Nashville area, chicago looking dry also
(02:59):
Minneapolis, st Paul thepossibility of some showers, but
also dry and hot.
And out on the West Coast, dryin LA, san Diego and San
Francisco and still raining uparound Portland and Seattle.
Looks like that will continuefor the next couple of days
there as well.
I'm your moderator, stevePelletier, and I'm the
weatherman.
Hope you have a great day today.
Talk to you first thing onMonday.
Take care, keep cool, don'texert yourself, drink.
