SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Hi, this is Biddy
Roller, Steve Pelletier, and I
am the Weatherman.
Thanks for checking intotheWeathermanPod.com on your
Monday, sixth day of the monthof October, 2025.
And boy, did we have a niceweekend in the east, much of the
nation.
Central, north, and east had uhvery warm, very dry weather.
Looks like uh some scatteredshowers along the Gulf Coast and
(00:20):
maybe central and southernportions of uh the Florida
Peninsula.
But outside of that, it has beenbasically dry and sunny.
High's near 80 on Saturday, inthe 80s on Sunday.
Similar situation coming up onMonday and Tuesday of this week.
Both days are going to be quitenice.
First, I want to give a bigshout-out and congratulations to
my buddy, my brother, Ed Galkin,89-year-old Ed Galkin, who was
(00:44):
uh set a record for being theoldest person to fly solo, or
actually not solo, but in asingle-engine aircraft from
Gander up in Newfoundland acrossthrough Iceland, from Iceland to
there to Bergen, Norway.
Bergen, Norway's on that uhwestern uh coast of the
peninsula, the NorwegianPeninsula, Scandinavian
(01:06):
Peninsula.
And then from there down toDenmark, from Denmark across
through into France, and fromFrance out to Warsaw, Poland, or
near Warsaw, actually, then overto the UK.
And from the UK had a little bitof some uh ignition problem with
his aircraft.
They had that all straightenedout, and uh then went on to uh
(01:26):
uh northern sections, the Basqueregion of Spain, then over to
Portugal, from there over to theAzores, and from the Azores a
flight directly to St.
John's, Newfoundland, fromNewfoundland to uh right over at
New Hampshire during the uhafternoon on Friday, and then
gave some talks on theirmission, and I'll get to that in
just a moment.
(01:47):
And that was on uh Friday andSaturday, and then today landed
at noontime at Central JerseyAirport in Manville, New Jersey.
Uh Peter and Ed uh did somegreat work.
You know, they went around theworld, part of Rotary, Rotary
International, and they'rereally set up all across the
world.
And uh everywhere they went,Rotarians, international
(02:08):
Rotarians from that country, meet uh met them at the airport.
And they gave a talk and raisingmoney to fight polio.
Now, you know, a lot of folksgo, well, polio is really not a
problem, isn't it?
I mean, it's isn't it just likeuh smallpox?
Well, actually, smallpox hasbeen eradicated, but polio has
not.
Uh, as a matter of fact, thereare some sections in Afghanistan
(02:29):
and Pakistan where outbreaks ofpolio have affected the
population, especially children.
And we have a vaccine.
The vaccine is available.
You can eradicate it, but theonly way that you can say that a
disease is totally eradicated isif it doesn't show up anywhere
in the globe for a period ofthree years, and that just
hasn't happened.
So uh the idea here with theflying Rotarians going around
(02:50):
the world and uh talking aboutthis problem is to raise money
so that they can vaccinate uhchildren and people in those
areas that need thosevaccinations.
Only costs$3.50, and that's foreach vaccination.
So any little bit that you cangive is a really great.
So it's uh flight to npolio.com.
(03:11):
Just go there and you can findout more information uh about
what Ed and Peter did over thelast 30 days.
A really quite remarkable.
And that speed across from uhthe Azores to St.
John's, Newfoundland, nine hoursand forty-one minutes.
And that's a record.
Uh record for uh uh a gentlemanwho uh has that many years as
(03:34):
still an excellent pilot, alongwith Peter.
Of course, Peter Tieron uh wellwas a representative
representative actually of RedCross and has been doing
wonderful work for many, manyyears, Peter Tieran.
And he's out of Iowa, and uh himand Ed arrived back in Central
Jersey Airport.
Congratulations today.
Weather-wise, it looks like justdry weather on Monday and
(03:57):
Tuesday.
Temperatures going about 80 to85, nighttime lows in the 50s.
Could have some much neededrainfall Tuesday night and on
Wednesday.
Hopefully, we do need the rain, and that uh hopefully will be
arriving around midweek.
If you are traveling by airlineron this Monday, it looks like
good weather in D.C.,Philadelphia, Baltimore, New
York City up to Boston.
(04:18):
Uh, but there are going to besome showers in Chicago, looks
like dry weather in Minneapolis, showers and thunderstorms on the
Florida Peninsula.
So they're going to have somerain there, maybe some showers
in Houston, dry in Dallas, buthot.
West Coast drive from San Diego,LA, San Francisco, all the way
up to Seattle and Portland.
And looks like that willcontinue for at least a day or
two.
I've been your moderator StevePelletier, and I am the
(04:38):
Weatherman.
Hope you have a great day today.
Talk to your first thing onTuesday.
See you then.
