(01:45):
enjoy the process, because thatis key.
If it's not enjoyable, it's notsustainable.
But before we jump in, for allthose avid listeners who have

So feel free to check out thoseepisodes for more information.
This all has to happen quickly, very quickly.
It's a month away because thecruise is around the corner, so
(03:12):
if you're interested, put yourdeposit down.
It's not a lot to hold yourspot.
Okay, let's jump in.
All right.
So let's talk about health goalsfor a second.
We've all been there, settingbig intentions to eat better,
(03:36):
move more, stress less.
And then life happens.
The routine starts to feelboring, motivation dips and
before you know it, you're stuckin the same cycle.
Sound familiar?
Well, here's the thing.
What if the problem isn't you?
What if it's how you'reapproaching your goals?
(03:56):
You see, too often we treathealth and wellness like a
checklist, something we have todo, instead of something we get
to do.
And that's where an adventurousmindset comes in.
When you start treating yourwellness journey like an
adventure, something to explore, play with and adapt along the
way, you stay engaged, motivatedand way more likely to stick
(04:21):
with it for the long run.
So today I'm sharing five waysto shift your mindset and reach
your health goals with thespirit of adventure.
Now, these just aren't tips.
They are a whole new approachto wellness, one that makes it
more fun, flexible andsustainable.
Are you ready?
Okay, well, let's dive in.
Tip number one ditch the all ornothing thinking.
(04:44):
Instead, get curious.
One of the biggest mindsetshifts you can make is replacing
rigid rules with curiosity.
Too often we think health isall or nothing.
You're either on the wagon oroff, crushing it or failing.
That kind of thinking it'sexhausting and it sets you up
(05:05):
for burnout.
So instead, get curious.
I hear people say in my clinicall the time I want to lose 15
pounds and I know what to do.
I just need to set my alarm for4.30 am and go to the gym
before work.
The acupuncturist in me wouldsay I know, you know what to do.
(05:25):
It's just getting yourselfmotivated to do it right.
Well, over the years I havechanged my opinion.
Now the coach in me says do youreally know what to do?
Because I believe if you knewwhat to do, you would do it.
So what happens if you try thatmorning workout and you try to
(05:46):
do it in the evening?
Or maybe the gym is just notyour jam and that's okay,
because there's something elsethat is your jam.
Or how does your body feel whenyou swap coffee for tea?
Or what if you approachedstress relief like an experiment
instead of an obligation?
(06:07):
What works for you, whateffectively works for you?
Curiosity makes wellness feellike a.
Choose your own adventureinstead of this rigid program,
and that's when you start makinglasting change.
So try this this week.
Pick one small thing to tweakin your routine, just as an
experiment, no pressure, justplay around and see what works.
(06:31):
And remember there is nofailure, just learning.
But yeah, play around, younever know what you're going to
come up with.
Okay, tip number two make it anexperience, not a chore.
If your workouts, meals andself-care routines feel like a
to-do list, they're not going tostick.
So instead, routines feel likea to-do list, they're not going
(06:54):
to stick.
So instead, turn them into anexperience Instead of forcing
yourself to go to the gym.
Find a trail, bike path oroutdoor space that makes
movement feel more fun.
It works.
Every time I feel completelydifferent and have a completely
different experience on thetrail running than I do in the
gym running on the treadmill.
Just give it a try.
Also, you can turn mealprepping into an enjoyable
(07:15):
activity or ritual.
Right, you can play music, trynew recipes.
You can even involve family andfriends, and if you hate
traditional meditation, try awalking meditation in nature.
I did a running meditationretreat in Colorado, I think in
2016 or 17.
It might have been 2018.
(07:37):
It was a running meditationretreat in Colorado and it was
super fabulous.
Sometimes, when I run alone herein Houston, I focus on the
meditative part of running.
I listen to the birds, I listento my feet hit the ground, the
rhythm of my feet.
You know, looking at the colors, I'm usually running in the
(08:00):
park and so I'm looking at thetrees and I'm trying to take in
all the smells and kind of likeforce bathing.
But running.
The point is wellness should besomething look forward to, not
just something you check off alist.
So here is my homework for youthis week Find a way to add joy
to one wellness habit this week.
So change your environment, invite a friend or simply shift
(08:24):
your perspective.
Okay, number three chaseprogress, not perfection.
Listen, every adventure hasdetours.
No one climbs a mountain in astraight line.
The same goes for health goals.
You're going to have setbacks, you're gonna miss a workout, eat
things that aren't in your planor feel unmotivated, and that's
(08:48):
normal.
The key is to track progress, not perfection.
So, instead of I have to workout every day, try how can I
move my body in a way that feelsgood today?
Instead of I failed at my diet, ask what is one small way I can
(09:09):
nourish my body right now?
When you shift your focus toprogress, the little wins start
stacking up and that's how realchange happens.
Okay, homework, try this.
Start keeping an adventure log.
Write down one thing you dideach day that contributed to
your health, no matter how small, and over time, you'll see how
(09:32):
much progress you're actuallymaking.
Okay, number four find yourtrail buddies.
Adventures are more fun andmore successful with the right
people.
Think about it when you'rehiking, running, traveling with
others.
There's energy, accountabilityand motivation.
The same applies to wellness,so I can't stress more.
(09:53):
To find your people, join afitness class or running club.
Honestly, I started running inAustin right before I moved back
to Houston.
I was randomly running inHouston and then somebody
introduced me to the BondRunning Club, which was Brian
O'Neill's run club, and it wasall over after that, and that
(10:17):
was in 2010,.
I think maybe nine or 10.
And I honestly, I honestlybelieve that is why I am still
running, because I was part ofthese run groups for many, many
years, up until a few years ago,and now I'm just.
It's just part of my lifestyle, but, honestly, I cannot
advocate more than for findingthe right people Partner with a
(10:41):
friend for accountability thatworks really well, or connect
with an online community thatshares your values, and whatever
you like to do.
Surrounding yourself withpeople on a similar path makes
the process easier, more fun anddefinitely more sustainable.
Okay, so here's your homeworkthis week reach out to one
person who can support you inyour wellness journey A friend,
(11:04):
a coach, a group, anyone whomakes the adventure more
enjoyable.
Okay, last but not least, it'sthe one we always forget to do.
Tip number five celebrate alongthe way.
One thing adventurers don't dois wait until the summit to
celebrate.
They enjoy the process, theyenjoy the hike, they enjoy the
(11:27):
run, they enjoy the journey tothe destination, to the goal.
They appreciate the smallvictories, and that's exactly
what you should do in yourhealth journey.
So stop waiting until you hityour goal weight or finish line
to acknowledge your progress.
Celebrate now.
Did you make a healthy choicetoday?
That counts.
(11:47):
Did you show up for yourself inany way?
That counts too, and did yousimply not quit today?
Well, that's a huge win.
When you make celebrating partof the journey, you're more
likely to stick with it for thelong run.
Last homework identify onesmall win every day and
celebrate it.
Okay, wellness friends.
(12:08):
Well, that was five ways to makewellness an adventure, so I
want to wrap it up here andrecap the five ways.
Number one ditch all or nothingthinking.
Get curious.
Number two make wellness anexperience, not a chore.
Number three chase progress,not perfection.
Number four find your trailbuddies.
(12:31):
Number five celebrate along theway.
Wellness should be an adventure, something you explore, adapt
and enjoy, and I'd love to hearfrom you what's one way you can
add adventure to your wellnessroutine this week.
