Monthly acupuncture Yep, justone session a month can help you

(01:06):
build a more resilient, balanced nervous system.
Pretty cool, right?
You know we're living innonstop hustle mode emails,
pinging, endless notificationsand juggling a million things at
once.
Our nervous systems rarely getthe break they deserve.
But acupuncture, yeah, it'slike hitting the pause button,

(01:29):
giving your nervous system amuch needed reset.
So grab your favorite healthybeverage, get cozy and let's
dive in.
But before we get started, Ihave to talk about the Wellness
River Cruise.
For all those avid listenerswho have tuned into the podcast
over the past year, you'velikely caught wind of the
Wellness River Cruise.
For all those avid listenerswho have tuned into the podcast
over the past year, you'velikely caught wind of the
Wellness River Cruise.
Well, friends, the moment hasarrived.

(01:51):
Mark your calendars April 20th2025.
That is two months away.
As we set sail on anunforgettable seven-night cruise
along the Danube River, we'lltraverse the picturesque
landscape of Austria, germany, hungary and Slovakia.
Prepare for many activesightseeing adventures,
including invigorating hikes, scenic bike rides and even a few

(02:12):
brisk runs, maybe Alongsidethese activities, indulge in the
serenity of yoga sessions, engage in enlightening wellness
discussions and savor theflavors of locally sourced
cuisine.
Excitement is already brewing,as several enthusiasts have
secured their spots.
For those intrigued, I'll putthe link in the show notes and
in episode 63 and 64, a journeyof wellness and wonder on the

(02:36):
Danube with Animal Waterways.
I had the pleasure of havingLaurie, a representative from
Animal Waterways, and Tammy, aseasoned travel concierge and my
friend on the podcast, todiscuss the full river cruise
experience, so feel free tocheck out those episodes for
more information if you'd like.
This all has to happen quickly,so the cruise is around the

(02:56):
corner.
If you're interested, put yourdeposit down.
It's not a lot to hold yourspot.
Okay, let's get started.
Why your nervous system deservesa break.

(03:16):
Think of your nervous system asmission control, managing
everything from your stresslevels to your digestion, mood
and sleep.
With a daily overload from ourbusy, busy lives, your body
stays stuck in fight or flightmode, and that's exhausting.
I mean, think about it 24-7, 52weeks in a year, 365 days a

(03:48):
year, 365 days.
You were being chased by a bearwithout ever resting.
That's exhausting.
This is chronic stress, andchronic stress leads to anxiety,
sleep troubles and healthproblems down the road.
But here's the great newsAcupuncture helps shift your
nervous system from stress tocalm.
According to the AmericanCollege of Lifestyle Medicine,

(04:09):
stress management is one oftheir six pillars, right
alongside with healthy eating, movement, good sleep, social
connections and avoiding riskyhabits.
Managing stress effectively hasmany benefits, like boosting
your mood, brain health andoverall longevity.
So how does acupuncture work?
Science alert.

(04:30):
Believe it or not, the magic ofacupuncture is backed by
science.
You see, acupuncture stimulatesyour vagus nerve, which helps
your body shift to a restfulstate.
Studies show it can lowercortisol, reduce inflammation
and even sharpen your brain'sability to adapt.
This is called neuroplasticity.

(04:50):
Research in Neural RegenerationResearch and Journal of
Neuroinflammation confirms.
Acupuncture supports the brainby reducing inflammation and
enhancing cognitive function.
Plus, acupuncture alignsperfectly with holistic stress
management approaches,complementing things like
meditation, movement and qualitysleep.

(05:14):
A lot of the times in the clinicI will have people do breath
work.
If I'm working on stress, I putthe needles in and then I have
them do the 4-4 box breathingtechnique, which is four
inhalations in, hold for fourseconds and then out for four.
It's just easy to remember four, four, four.

(05:34):
There's also four, four, six.
So you inhale for four, holdfor four and then you exhale for
six.
There's also, I think, six, seven, eight, where you inhale
for six, you hold for seven andI think you release at eight.
I could be, I'd have to, I'dhave to look that one up.
I always stick to the four, four, four, but they're

(05:56):
incredibly great for calmingthat central nervous system and
reducing stress.
Okay, let's move on, cause Iwant to share some of my
favorite acupuncture points fornervous system bliss.
Okay, I'm going to try anddescribe these to you where they
are located on the body, sowe'll see how this goes.
So let's talk some points.

(06:17):
So here are my favorite calmingpoints and great calming points
for your nerves and boostingresilience.
So we're going to start withgoverning vessel 20.
We say GV20.
It is on the top of the head,it is like the highest point on
the head.
This clears the mind andreduces stress.

(06:37):
So you can just do acupressureand gently kind of massage the
point on the top of your head.
So that's a really, reallygreat one.
I also use pericardium six.
We call it PC six.
It is on the forearm, it's onthe inside of the forearm, not
far from the wrist.
Um, they say it's two chin fromthe crease of the wrist up like

(07:01):
towards the elbow, uh, but thisis a really great one for
anxiety and it helps, uh, easetension.
I also use stomach 36.
This is on the lower medialside of the leg, so kind of the
outside of the leg, rightunderneath the kind of like the
attachment of the IT band.
This is a stomach point and ithelps boost energy, resilience

(07:23):
and overall vitality.
Spleen 6, I use a lot.
This is your go-to forrelaxation and emotional balance
.
This one's on the lower leg, onthe inside of the leg, close to
the ankle.
And then I also use Shen Men,which is heart seven.
In a previous episode I talkedabout the heart.

(07:46):
The heart.
Seven calms the spirit andenhances or can improve your
sleep.
Another one is kidney one.
I do use this one a lot Ifsomebody comes in and they are
super, super stressed.
I don't use it on everybodybecause it is on the bottom of
the foot and it can be tender.

(08:06):
The bottom of our feet.
They don't get a lot ofexposure to the ground and
there's no calluses.
There are no, there's no likelots of meat down there.
So they can be super tender.
And some of the most powerfulpoints are below the elbows and

(08:27):
below the knees because theyhave more nerves and so it can
be a super tender point.
So I only do that if someonecomes in and they're really,
really stressed out and I alwaysask them.
But yeah, it really grounds youand relieves stress.
So if you want you couldactually do pressure on on
kidney one.
It's a good pressure point.

(08:47):
And the last point I'm going toshare with you is bladder 10.
I love this one because it'sright at the occiput, on the
back of the neck, and it helpsrelieve all that tension that
you hold right at the occiputand we all carry tension there
just from our desk jobs and lotsof computer work and always

(09:09):
looking down, texting, typing, all of that.
So bladder 10 is a really greatone to needle, as well as you
can do pressure, so it's areally, really good one.
Okay, let's talk about why oneacupuncture session a month
rocks.
Now you might be thinking, sherry, once a month, really is

(09:30):
that good enough?
But here's the deal.
Acupuncture is like trainingfor a race.
Even occasional practice makesa big difference, but
consistency will maximize yourbenefits.
Monthly acupuncture that's onesession a month keeps stress
from building up and supportslong-term wellness, making it

(09:51):
the perfect entry point.
If you're new or skeptical, Ipromise you'll feel something in
one session.
But honestly, for chronicstress, anxiety or ongoing
health issues, bi-weekly orweekly sessions might work
better.
It's all about finding whatfits you best.
So remember, wellness isn't aone size fits all you best.
So remember, wellness isn't aone size fits all.
It's about discovering yourrhythm.

(10:13):
Okay, so before we wrap up, Iwant to give everybody some
practical tips to get youstarted.
So if you're ready to giveacupuncture a try to help
relieve stress in your life, here's how to get started.
Find a licensed acupuncturistyou vibe with wherever you are.
If you're in Houston, feel freeto come see me If you're not.

(10:36):
Just make sure you findsomebody that you vibe with I
think that's super important andsomebody who listens to you and
obviously, like I said, licensed in your state, wherever
you are.
Number two pair your acupuncturesessions with mindful practices
like breathing exercises,movement or meditation.
Now, I don't think you shoulddo this while you're moving, but

(10:58):
it's good to do youracupuncture and then go move
right, like walk, go to the gym, swim, whatever it is you enjoy
doing.
Do your acupuncture with yoursessions.
I mean, I'm sorry, do youracupuncture with your workouts,
but not at the same time.
Acupuncture with your workoutsbut not at the same time.

(11:21):
Now you can do breathingexercises with your acupuncture.
I have people do it all thetime.
I think I mentioned thisearlier.
If people come in to see me forstress, we do the box breathing
technique while they're on thetable.
And meditation meditation.
You guys know how much I lovemindful meditation.
It is a great thing to do whileyou're doing your acupuncture
sessions.
You can do how much I lovemindful meditation.
It is a great thing to do whileyou're doing your acupuncture
sessions.

(11:41):
You can do it on the table withthe needles or, you know, when
you get home or in the morning, whatever.
Whatever again works for you.
Number three track your progress.
Write down how you feel beforeand after your sessions.
This is important becauseacupuncture can work in profound
ways.
Some people will say, oh mygosh, like I had the best night

(12:04):
of sleep after my session.
Or they will get off the tableand we call it the acuzone Like.
I've seen people run into wallsbecause they were just so like
in another world.
Those are pretty obviousresponses, but more often

(12:24):
acupuncture works in a verysubtle way and once you walk out
the clinic door and you getback to your busy, busy life,
you are not paying attention.
And one of the most repeatedcomments that I get, when people
come back and I ask how theydid over the week, the number

(12:48):
one comment I get the number oneresult is you know what, when I
think back, over the week, myenvironment stayed the same.
Nothing changed in myenvironment.
The stressors are all stillthere, but I handled it
differently.
So if I would have never askedthat question, I don't know if

(13:09):
they would have ever reflectedon that and had an awareness of
that.
So I think it's reallyimportant to track your progress
, especially if you're in high, high stress situations and you
cannot get out of that stressfulsituation Like as soon as you
walk out that door all thosestressors are still there.
I think it's really importantto journal and reflect and to

(13:31):
measure and track your progress.
Okay, and the last one I'mgoing to share with you is keep
it consistent by scheduling yoursession at the same time each
month.
That way it's easy to remember, right?
Okay, I'm going to go getacupuncture once a month, every
Friday at five o'clock so I canstart my weekend.
That's very common in my clinic, very, very common.

(13:53):
And here's a pro tip.
The last tip I'm going to sharewith you, the grand finale here
If you're serious aboutconquering stress, wellness
coaching is a fantastic addition, and I'm not just saying that
because I'm a wellness coach.
Coaching offers personalizedsupport and helps you develop

(14:13):
stress management strategiesuniquely tailored to your
lifestyle.
Wellness coaching can empoweryou to understand your stress
triggers better, createsustainable habits and build a
healthier mindset to keep yourstress at bay.
Right, we don't want to takeaway all of our stress.
Some stress is important, somestress is good.

(14:33):
It challenges us.
It challenges our system.
We grow from stress, so we justwant to learn how to manage our
stress to where it's notaffecting us negatively and
impacting our health and ourwellness.
So coaching can't say enoughgood things about it, because it
teaches you long-term stressmanagement skills.

(14:54):
Okay Well, we're going to wrapit up.
So if stress has you feelingworn out or just off balance,
acupuncture might be exactlywhat your nervous system ordered
.
