Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the
Wrinkled Runner podcast.
Today, I'm excited to sharesome fun news with all of you,
especially if you're looking fora bit of inspiration or new
ideas for your running journey,no matter where you are in it,
whether you're a beginner oryou've been running forever.
So I am talking about theBoston Run Show, and it's a
(00:22):
great event for runners of alllevels, like I said, and it's
happening again on March 1st and2nd 2025.
It will be at the BostonConvention and Exhibition Center
, and I have been an ambassadorfor the event since its
inception in 2023.
In 2023.
(00:48):
So it's young, it's only twoyears old.
But what's super cool about itis it has gotten so big that
they've actually had to movevenues to be able to have it at
the convention center.
And because I'm an ambassador,I have the ability to give out
free tickets for this event.
So if you go to thebostonrunshowcom and use the
code wrinkledrunner, you canregister and get free tickets,
(01:10):
and I'll, of course, put a linkin the show notes for that.
So if you've never been to,like a marathon, it has
everything from gear and snacksand samples to running shoes,
(01:32):
apparel, and it has a whole listof speakers and the people who
are going to be there this yearis a fantastic list.
We've got Des Linden coming, who was a Boston Marathon
champion.
If you've been in the runningworld, I'm sure you know who Des
Linden is, and she's going tobe a speaker there.
(01:54):
Laz Lake you might not be asfamiliar with him, but if you've
heard of the Barkley Marathons, which is that crazy marathon in
the Tennessee mountains, if youhaven't heard about this, you
really need to watch thedocumentary, and I don't know
offhand what that is, but I'llput it in the show notes.
(02:15):
He's going to be there and he'sgoing to be speaking as well.
Dave McGillivray, who is therace director from the Boston
Marathon, is going to be there,as well as a whole bunch of
other speakers, and each one hasa different topic that they're
going to be talking about.
There's different workshopsthere, so, just for the speakers
(02:37):
alone, this is going to be areally cool experience.
The other thing, like I saidearlier, is they have all the
vendors, and so you can look atgear, you can try it on, you can
try, you can buy.
They have all sorts of brandsthat are going to be represented
there, and the cool thing aboutexhibitions or conventions like
(02:59):
this is you get some reallygood discounts from the
convention.
So if you come out, you knowyou can try all the things you
know.
There's all these energy barsthat's actually the first place
I ever tried athletic brewings,non-alcoholic beer.
Now, I'm not a huge beerdrinker, but my husband is and
(03:22):
we don't drink at all alcoholduring the week, so when he
wants the taste of the beer heloves the athletic brewing and
so some of the things that I usenow on a regular basis I was
introduced to at this convention.
There's different zones there aswell, so they have like the
(03:46):
gait analysis zone where you canhave somebody look at your form
, tweaking your form.
To me there are ways that youcan run more efficiently.
I think if it's not broken, don't fix it, but some people do
have gait issues and they cansee that at the gait analysis
(04:06):
zone.
There's also the Zen zone, sothey'll do some yoga classes and
balance training that you cando right there at the convention
, and they also have a Kids GetActive Zone.
So this can be an event for thewhole family, if that's
something that interests you, tobring your kids along as well
and they can have fun there.
There's also a bunch of otherzones.
(04:28):
There's the cold therapy zone.
In case you've ever wanted totry that, the last time I was
there they had a zone where youcould try on those things that
go on your legs and kind ofmassage your legs after a long
run.
So there's just all kinds ofthings to do Now.
In addition to the run show, your ticket also gives you
(04:51):
access to the Boston OutdoorExpo.
So if you're into running andyou're into hiking, trail
running, camping, you're goingto find plenty of inspiration
and gear for your next adventureoutside as well.
So even if you're the onlyrunner in your family or in a
(05:11):
group of friends, having theOutdoor Expo at the same time
that you have access to givesyou some avenues to bring the
family or friends and make a dayor even a vacation out of it.
Now I live in Buffalo so it'snot like I can just drive down
to Boston for the day.
So I make a kind of a minivacation out of it when I go to
(05:33):
the expo there and my husbandand I will go.
We'll get in a day early, we'llstay a day late and we've
actually done some of thewalking tours that they have
around Boston.
There's some that you can dothat are just self-guided online
, and I'll link you to that too, because there's some really
(05:54):
cool ones.
Get you know, getting the vibekind of of Boston as we're there
.
So we we make a long weekendout of it, and now that they
have the outdoor expo inaddition to the running expo,
that gives you more avenues tohave more people come with you
or go with you If that'ssomething that you're interested
(06:15):
in.
Come with you or go with you ifthat's something that you're
interested in.
Also, one thing that's reallycool, and one thing that I also
learned for the first time acouple years ago, is they are
partnering with Souls for Souls,so that is a place that you can
donate your old running shoes.
That way, you can give back tothe community, and it makes
(06:35):
running more sustainable as well, instead of just either
throwing out running shoes orkeeping them forever, and I did
a podcast episode on sustainablerunning shoe you know getting
rid of that last season, so I'lllink up to that.
The other thing I like to doduring this convention is have a
meetup, and I'd love to see youthere.
(06:59):
I'd love to chat with you.
We can talk about all thingsrunning and your race goals.
Just say hi.
It's a great opportunity toconnect with fellow runners in
our Wrinkled Runner communityand details are going to be
coming out soon.
So make sure you're subscribedto my newsletter at
wrinkledrunnercom to stayupdated, or you can shoot me an
(07:21):
email so I can send youregistration information,
because meetups take planningand unless I have people
registered for it, if no oneshows an interest or no one's
registered, then obviously I'mnot going to be at the.
An interest or no one'sregistered, then obviously I'm
not going to be at the placesthat I have planned for the
meetup.
So if you are interested at all, please let me know so that I
(07:44):
can send you those details.
So mark your calendars March1st and 2nd Use the code
wrinkledrunner at the Boston RunShow.
Definitely I'll give you thatlink and grab your free tickets.
It's going to be a really funweekend.
They're planning on some veryeasy group run for all levels as
(08:04):
well.
It's just a really fun time toget together with people who
like to run and I will say getthere early because they have
some really awesome giveaways ifyou are in line before the
doors open and I will be theregiving things out as well.
So another opportunity to kindof meet up.
(08:25):
So share this episode with anyrunning friends so that we can
make sure that runningconventions like this are able
to get the word out, this areable to get the word out, so
that this can continue to besomething that is in existence
and that we can have as arunning community.
The Wrinkled Runner code willwork for an unlimited number of
(08:48):
people, so get your tickets andyou can get them for your
running or your outdooradventure friends.
