Speaker (00:01):
Hey, welcome everybody to The Writing Glitch, the podcast where we
turn learning challenges into success.
I'm Cheri Dotterer, and today webring you a little Christmas magic.
Teachers and occupational therapists, are you ready for a little sparkle in
your classroom this holiday season?

(00:22):
I've got a festive activity that combinesmath, creativity, teamwork, and fine motor
skills and pattern recognition and allkinds of magical learning experiences.
It's called the 12 Days Stocking Problem.
Here's the story.
Santa's workshop isbuzzing with excitement.

(00:44):
12 elves are busy helpingSanta fill stockings.
But there's a twist.
Each elf has a special role that involvesflipping and filling the stockings.
On the 12th day, some of the stockingsremain open and ready for treats, but Only
if the students can crack the pattern.

(01:06):
This activity isn't justfun, it's impactful.
It aligns the IMPACT learning frameworkto promote inclusion and inclusion.
Metacognition, Perseverance, Adaptability,Confidence, and Transcendence.
Here's what's included in the PDF.
It's an easy to follow instructionso you can set up quickly.
It has hands on math challenge thatis perfect for groups of any size.

(01:31):
It's creative and it creates prompts tospark discussion and critical thinking.
It has fine motor practicefor the younger students.
And the best part is It'scompletely holiday themed and ready
for you to download right now.
Want to try it out?

(01:56):
And don't forget, share your studentsresults with me at Cheri at CheriDotterer.
com to be featured in a future episode.
I can't wait to see how yourstudents solve this festive puzzle.
You'll get a PDF witha bunch of stockings.
On it.
That you can make copies of the stockingswill look like this, a student one.

(02:19):
Get each student getsone stocking to color in.
So when you glue them together, stockingstudent to stocking will be on the back.
So student one student two.
Soon in three student, fourstudent five students, six.
Then you may need to helpthem put the curling ribbon

(02:41):
through this little loop here.
I'm afraid that we'll havesome students that will.
Tear that off.
If not, you'll have to.
Be creative.
You could be using a whole punch andpunch it at a different location.
I just happened to go through the loopand put some curling ribbon on it.
Then you're going to be putting the.

(03:05):
The stockings on a poster board, whichunfortunately I don't have one that
I can show on the screen here, butwhen you have all of them on, they're
all going to be facing the left.
And then on day two.
Student.
Stocking set.
Two is going to turn.

(03:28):
Stocking set for we'll turn.
Stockings at six.
Eight 10 and 12.
And on the directions on the PDF, you willhave a sample of what day two looks like.
On day three, you're only goingto move every third stocking.
So stocking three, stocking six, stocking nine and stocking 12.

(03:53):
On day four.
You're going to move four, eight and 12.
On day five, five, and 10, etcetera, until you get through day 12.
And the idea here is whatdoes that pattern look like?
On day 12.
And what does the patternlook like in between the days?

(04:14):
I have the students to talk aboutwhat has changed about the patterns.
And how did.
One of the things you can ask is how didthey feel about putting their stocking
adjacent somebody else's stocking.
Some kids may take.

(04:34):
I may not have really care for that, but that creates the teamwork where
everybody's stocking is important.
To get the end result.
So hopefully the idea.
Is starting to gel inyour mind a little bit.
So download that PDF andwe will see you next week.

(05:00):
Until next time, remember, learning doesn't have a glitch.
It can be magical because you wereput here for such a time as this.
Go be awesome.
Go be brilliant.
This has been Cheri Dotterer.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
