Speaker 1 (00:02):
Listen WWE superstar Drew McIntyre, and you're listening to the
WWE podcast show.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
The one that everybody wants me. I'll start for sixteen,
So guys, let's up your ass this mind.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
You're going to acknowledge me what is going on?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Everybody, and welcome to this week's episode of the Main
Event Review. Thank you very much for tuning in once again.
I'm just going to be full transparent with you, guys.
I know it's a WWE podcast and we really like
to steer away from things that happen outside of the world,

(00:52):
but it's very hard for me to sit here record
this podcast on the back of the events that transpired
yesterday here in Sydney, Australia. I am from Melbourne, so
it didn't happen in my state, so I'm okay. But
just just a massacre that occurred, a terrorist attack, just

(01:16):
on a Honiker Day, a clear anti syneptic attack. Yeah,
I've got no got no words for it, to be honest.
It's just for me being Australian. It's something that I
never would have thought happened in my country and for
the first time ever, I generally feel unsafe here and

(01:39):
of course, I'm proud to be Australian and yeah, this
really hurts me as as a countryman, as someone from here.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
But just just wanted to give.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
You guys a bit of the outline there and praying
for all of the souls that passed away and that
we can recover from this, and yeah, I just wanted
to just mention it. If you guys aren't aware, it's
probably all over the news as well, but it's really
affected me mentally the last two days and I will
just try to not think about it when recording this

(02:13):
podcast and talking about what I love and that is
wrestling as well. So again having the platform to be
able to do this, being able to just be able
to do this as well, I've got to be grateful for.
And yeah, I just hate like to see things like this,
even in general, but especially when it's just so close

(02:34):
to you as well. It's really affected me, So I
don't need to start on a sour note, because it
is a story of sour notes. Also in the wrestling front,
we obviously had John Seena's last ever match. He's officially retired,
it's all done. He loses his final match, tapping out

(02:57):
and finally giving up to Gunfa, and I'm going to
start with my opinion on the booking before we get
into obviously what happened after the show with Triple H,
with the fans swearing at him, with gun for getting
the abuse that he got, and sit there and actually

(03:18):
take the opposite realm and say that I think it
was the correct decision and decision that to me made
the most sense.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Now, I'm not expecting people to be happy with the decision.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I'm not expecting people to feel as though that it
was a terrible booking, but I just totally get why
he tapped out, and it's because he's finished. He's tapped
out of wrestling. He's actually given up on wrestling. He's retired.
So for him to tap out on his last match,
I think was fitting and what made the most sense.

(03:52):
And as I was like looking into the match, I
kind of had an inkling that it could happen, I'm like, well,
John Cena.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Actually tap out for the first, very first.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Time, and it did happen. Gunther tapped John Cena out.
And before everyone can sit there and blame Triple H,
and yes, Triple H has been very I think interesting
when it comes to his bookings, and I've been critical
of him as well with some of the bookings he's
made and just the fact that he hypes everything up
makes things about him and it doesn't deliver. In this instance,

(04:26):
I generally feel that John Cena, it was John Cena's call.
Now Triple H needs to sign this off, but I
think John Cena was the one that approved this and
had the final say in how he was going to
go out in his retirement match. So for that alone,
I do respect that that John Cena did it this
way and it made the most sense.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
What I can criticize Triple H for.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Is when he came out and the ring being the
first one to come out, just he finds a way
to make things about him, you know what I mean.
It's just annoying, like that fake smile, like he knew
it wasn't genuine. The tribute video was was quite emotional,
if I'm honest, but like just him being the one
to present it and everything.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yeah, the whole, the whole, the whole stuff making about
him was interesting.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
What I love is the heat that Gunha is getting,
Like you're going to talk about a heel that is
going to get booed out.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Of the building.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Every single week, you have just put Gunther over and
now with this heat, Triple H has to do something
for it because if it's been his choice, if he
made the final say, if John Cena has approved this,
then this is a stepping stone for Gunha to put
him over because he was the one that made John
Cena give up and defeated him in his retirement match.

(05:44):
He obviously got abuse from outside the arena, which I
genuinely think is stupid and not on. Like, the guy's
a performer, what happens outside the ring is not related
to what's in the ring. He's a human being and
he's just a worker in the end of the day,
following the storyline of what he's supposed.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
To be doing. So for him.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
For wrestlers like that go out and abuse Gunsa and
going up to him publicly, I think he's dumb because realistically.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Do you your brain?

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Does your brain comprehend that he's actually not the person
that makes the decision. And you can see how upset
I am because I'm obviously bringing up the stuff that
I mentioned at the start into this podcast. Apologies, but
I just think it's done, in my opinion, to do that.
I don't mind the booze. I don't mind the abuse
that's that's not outside of the ring, and like to

(06:33):
a point where he can be endangered. Obviously we're talking
about in danger at the start, like everyone's on edge.
Not necessary for me, but yes, Gunha's got heat now
and they have to do something with this because I
think it's great heat. I think it's appropriate and yeah,
I'm excited to see what they'll do with Gunthera. John
Cena will very much be around obviously, he's been signed

(06:55):
on as an ambassador, so we'll probably see him around
here and there, which will be right, so he will
still be able to listen to his music and his
entrance when he comes out here and there. But again,
it's the last time we're going to see him wrestle.
For me, he's the goat. I've always said it. I
grew up watching John Cena. He was my childhood hero.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
He was He made a lot to me as well.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
They never give up the hustle law to respect those.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Things I lived with and I was influenced by it
with him, So it was sad.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I did get a little emotional, to be honest, when
he did finish up, and it's it's the reality is
hit that his time is finally up. But yeah, that
that pretty much is what my sort of take on
the on the John Cena situation.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
The match itself excellent, very very good.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Match, obviously slow paced, best suited to Gunther's style of wrestling.
A lot of aas he kicked out of. But again,
that's been the sort of general consensus of the whole
retirement tour this year is that a lot of superstars
are kicking out of the AA. You had gun for
going through the table, which was quite nice. It was
a great spot and just his methodical way of wrestling

(08:05):
I really do like, and I think they did a
really good job in having that in. The fans were hot,
which was great to see. And yeah, like the match
was great. I didn't expect anything less than what I saw,
so I'm not going to sit there and say that
it blew my expectations.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
It was match of the year.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
We obviously know that Johnsen at aj Styles matchup was
probably his best match in the retirement tour, but the
match between Johnson and Gunther was exactly what I would
have imagined happening.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
So for me, excellent for me, just it was great.
And to see.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Cody Rhodes seem Punk give the titles to John Cena
was a nice touching moment as well. And all the
superstars coming outside and congratulating him, seeing Kevin Owens which
was awesome, seeing Sammy's aim with his kids, seeing Rob Van, Dan,
Kurt Angle, Chris Statis, and I'm probably forgetting a few more,

(08:59):
but all their Oh Lias too, sing a Lias is
awesome as well, in the in the in the crowd
just getting ready for to watch his match and just
congratulate him was simply awesome. And there is no doubt
that he's going to be a Hall of Famer. I
think they should just get it done with and give
him the Hall of Fame next year. I think it's
I think it's time. I don't think we need to

(09:19):
wait an extra year. We haven't obviously inducted anyone else
besides Stephanie McMahon, so why not induct Johnson the next year?

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Like we all know he's gonna he's gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
So yeah, that's that's the case, and I guess, yeah,
it's the end of John sena but let's see how
things go moving forward. We're obviously on with the future.
We had the rest of the main event matches, which
will review, but we'll go to our original sort of show,
which is the main event review with the quick two matches.

(09:49):
We'll touch up them very quickly. We had Kid Wilson
taking on Shinsk Nakamura Kinds Kate getting a win, Shinsk
not getting a win. Sorry, think Wilson still just he
can't win. Know, he can't win a match on main event,
and it's good to see him get some time there,
but nothing really going on with his character, and Shinske

(10:10):
is just a feel good moment wrestler at the moment.
He was in the five y five, but I don't
really suspect that he'll be doing anything else. But you know,
Shinsky is a legend, so it's great to see him
performing ring. He's got exceptional in ring nobility. It's just
a shame that obviously he's English is not his first language, he.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Can't really pull any effective promos.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
But I like that he's still in the company just
to perform match in matches like this, So yeah, pretty
standard match. Then we had I think it was Rio,
one of the members of the I'll grand the Americano team. Obviously,
this is being Pete Donne and man like. I know,
Pete Done's being a workhorse, but the fact that he

(10:51):
has to wear a mask and be a luchador like
you get paid, I guess if you don't do it,
you won't become part of WWE. But at the same time,
I just think it's just it's just unfortunate that he
has the result to having that character, if that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
But the match was quite solid.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
We had the final outcome, which was the same finish
that our Grande users, which is the metal piece headbart Obviously,
Primo I think was the one that provided the head
butt to Rio. Obviously, then Otis came in and interrupted
that attacked him and the ref got distracted. That allowed

(11:32):
the chance for I'm just gonna say Pete Dune to
put the metal piece in his head, headbutting a Curatezawa
and getting the victory there, which I think was the
right decision. I think those two it's a shame that
they are what they are, But at the same time,
I think the Americanos need the momentum.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Hopefully we get to see them.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
It's Bravo, Bravo and Rio so Bravo giving the piece
and Rio finishing it off there Ryo, which is good,
but yeah, just to give them so much need momentum
going into whatever they have planned for them, whether it's
on Triple or whether it's on Raw.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Let's let's see what happens. But we haven't. We haven't
seen ol.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Grande in a while on Raw, and yeah, I don't
know what they're doing with you. I don't know what's
going to happen with Chad Gable returns that there's a
lot of sort of moving pieces with that as well,
so we'll keep eyes on that. But again, the Off
Academy just continued to stay on main event. But that
pretty much wraps that up. We then had Saturday night's
main event with the first match, Ober Family taking on

(12:30):
Cody Rhodes and that ended in a disqualification with Drew
McIntyre entering. And I did think that Cody Rhodes would
win the match, but then, as I mentioned in my
SmackDown review, go check that out, I've got two episodes
filling in for Amanda and then one more next week
that Drew McIntyre would interfere. I didn't know that the

(12:50):
match would get the be the qualification, but I knew
he'd interfere, and he definitely did. He obviously disqualified Cody
Well hit Cody Road Roads and gave him the victory
on disqualification, so you can say that Cody Rhodes technically won,
but it was obviously a disqualification. And then you had
Oberfemi supporting Cody hitting Drew McIntyre with the choke slam,

(13:13):
and that's when both of the superstars held each other's
hands up in a match that was quite solid. I'm
keen to see ober Femi get on the main roster.
I think I'm ready for that. I think it'll be
awesome to see him there. He's currently the NXT champion.
I do suspect that once he drops the belt he'll
be moving up to the main roster. I think that
would make the most sense. But this was probably the

(13:35):
right decision. You don't want to cost ob Femi a
chance to lose his momentum or I guess not get
the result. At the same time, you don't want your
champion dropping a match to Oberfemi either, so it was
probably the right decision there. We obviously are not seeing

(13:55):
the end of Cody Roads and Drew McIntyre. We're probably
going to see a match either on the next Saturday
Night's main event or at the Roll Rumble who knows.
But again, this is a filler match like Kevin Owen's
last year before we get to the real main stuff,
which is obviously the WrestleMania stuff as well. So yeah,
again a match that protects both superstars. I want to

(14:18):
see Obafemi on the main roster coming soon, and we'll
get more Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. We then move
on to the next match, which was Soul Rooker taking
on Bailey and I'm happy I predicted this, Soul Rooker
getting the victory there with a few counterpins to win
and one of the biggest wins of Soul Ruker's career.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
She's incredible in the ring.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Let me tell you, I am so keen to see
her development in the future because I think she's going
to be doing a lot of really good things. I
think there's a lot of story to be told there
with Zaria, I think they're obviously having.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
A few soon. I reckon.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
There was rumors that that was going to happen at
Saturday Nights main event. It didn't make sen to do it,
given that not everyone including myself follows NXT on a
weekly basis, obviously due to time and just the resource.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
But again, Soul Rooker getting the.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Victory on Bailey and Bailey continues to do a really
good job in putting superstars over.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
So yeah, it was a great match. Bailey is really
good in the ring.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
She's got great chemistry, and sol Rooker has that soule
statut which.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Is an incredible finishing move.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
But overall, she's just quite athletic and I think she
offers something really different to a lot of these other women,
and that's what makes me excited for the future for
her as well. And I think she's another one that
definitely is going to the main roster as well. And
speaking of young and talented, we have Leon Slater and
Javon Evans taking on aj Styles and Dragonly almost at

(15:47):
a j Lee always get confused when I talk about
these two but two twenty one year olds born after
John Zena's first ever match, which is quite crazy. We
spoke about Javon Evans on SmackDown. Leon Slater. I've heard
a lot about him, but I didn't really know much
about him because he is on TNA, and again, if
I'm not having time to watch NXT, how can I

(16:08):
really follow TNA that greatly.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
But at the end of the day, it was awesome to.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
See two young stars compete and again they've got bright
futures as well. The uber athletic They came out the
gates hot with some crazy, high flying moves. The match
didn't go too long, but at the end of the day, yeah,
ag Style was getting the styles Clash on Leon Slater
and getting the victory.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
But it was just a great display of athletic ability.
And we had a botch.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
I don't know if that was a botch, but what
I was impressed about was the fact that for someone
so young, Leon Slater was able to adapt to the
situation and improvise on the fly. I think the match
was supposed to finish with the phenomenal Forum, but just
that quick ring awareness and improvisation despite the botch was awesome.
And then we had the finisher, which was the styles clash,

(16:57):
so obviously aj styles from that. Probably he's definitely retiring
if he's doing batches like that, So I mean, I
feel for him, but I'm glad he's safe that's the
main thing, and they obviously getting the victory. I didn't
review that because I'll preview that. Because I didn't the
match wasn't set up when I did the preview show.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
But yeah, that was the right decision.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
We got to see Jovon Evans, which we've been seeing
a lot, but seeing Leon Slater, for me, it was awesome.
And he also looks like he's got a bright future
and his uber athletic as well, and who knows, we
may see them to have a lot of rivalries.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
When they get on the main show.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Eventually, I think Leon Slater will probably have a run
in an XT and Javon Evans will probably get to
the main show quicker.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
But yeah, we've got a really good future ahead.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
I think with those four superstars that were displayed on
Saturday Night's main event as well. And then we get
a nice and I love this, I'm not gonna lie
a nice little promo, a little segment with the Miz
coming out interrupting Stephanie McMahon with awesome that was well
executed there. He basically was getting upset that he wasn't

(18:01):
on the card or this, this, that, and that's where
our truth came into Our Truth got a segment in
this which was awesome and basically made a joke about
saying that the Mis took nick Olis's balls, and then
Our Truth obviously gave the ball that was supposed to
be drawn, and that's when the Mis said Joe Hendry
and albeit say his name and he appears. That's exactly

(18:23):
what happened. We saw Joe Hendry make his appearance on
Saturday Night's main event into the ring. The Mis wasn't
happy about it at all, pushed Joe Hendry and then
we had a bit of a brawl there and then
the essential big choke slamb that he's got the standing ovation.
I'm pretty sure he calls it on Miss and then

(18:45):
hitting the five or ten knuckle shuffle with Our Truth,
and it's just funny to see Our Truth posing with
Joe Hendry with the close up pose that Joe Hendry
always does.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
And again, I think.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
When Joe Hendri gets on the main show, I would
love to see him in the MISS. I think that
would be an awesome like debut sort of rivalry for
Joe Hendry. He signed on to NXT and we're going
to see him on the main show as well. So
there's so many young superstars that are elevating on NXT
that are going to get on the main show, and
I think the main show is going to be stacked,

(19:17):
and it's going to be interesting to see how Triple
H if he books stuff correctly, he books everything there
as well. So that pretty much wraps up the last segment.
As then we obviously spoke about John Sena's last retirement
match to end the show. He was talking about him
starting the show, and like no one really talked about

(19:38):
how the fact that he just blatantly lied or if
like Chiblazers like nah, I'm definitely not doing that, that
that's definitely going to be the main event, or he
was just trying to like get people to just tune
in at the start, saying that he'll be first, So
when he wasn't, people were already locked in and expecting it.
And then when the show came on, obviously we saw

(19:58):
Cody Roodzenoberfemi, so they had no choice but to stay
and wait. That would have been a smart play because yeah,
you get people to actually watch while thinking that he
was first, but again that wasn't the case. It was
always going to be the main event, and it was
and it delivered to me. The decision was a correct decision,
whether you like it or not in terms of a booking,
and if we take our emotions away from it, the

(20:18):
correct decision. John Cena has given up. He has retired.
Of course, his mantra is to never give up, but
he has to follow I guess what his mantra is,
and the fact that he is retiring, so it was
a great decision and the fact that his smiled just
showed how genuine it was. And it was great to
see him being genuine in the ring as well and
not being into character too much, and that was that

(20:41):
was quite awesome to see. And obviously a respect for
Gunther as well. He didn't hold the sleeper longer. As
soon as he tapped, he let go and low Ki.
That's a bit of respect from from guns desires. If
you want to see anything good from him, he's got
so much heat now he's going to get so many booze.
But yeah, John Cena's finished up, and also this episode

(21:02):
has finished up. And apologies to start on that sour note,
but yeah, it's been very very sad here and it's
really affected me. But again, thank you very much for
tuning into this week's episode of the Main Event and
Saturday night's Main Events review. We'll be back with a
normal Main Event review next week, followed by my final

(21:22):
SmackDown review as well. Again, if you have been enjoying
the episodes, thank you for tuning in and just supporting
the pod as well overall. But yeah, I'll catch you
guys next week on SmackDown Review.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Cheers.
