Speaker 1 (00:07):
What's up everybody. Welcome back to the WWE After Dark Show.
My name is Luis Gondalas. I am your host for
the week. And yes, it has been a couple weeks.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Since we've talked to each other. Guys.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Life has been again very very busy. Work has just
amped it up to eleven. I did go to Walt
Disney World. I think I mentioned that last time that
I was going to Walt Disney World for work. That
was awesome, that was fantastic. I've been keeping up with
wrestling even though I was gone for a while. I
(00:43):
went to Walt Disney World. That was that one week
I missed, and in the following week I had to
edit like eleven videos. It was crazy. It was crazy.
Some of them were like social videos, so they were
kind of short, but still create like five normal YouTube
video six minutes long.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
So that following week was just completely I was in
a cave. I was in an editing cave. I was
just do not contact me. I am busy, I am working.
I got to push all this stuff out and it's done.
It's done. But lo and behold, we have more work
(01:24):
we gotta do.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
At work. I've been taking my breaks. Don't worry, I'm
not being.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Too overly booked out last the editing week was pretty crazy,
but those are few and far between. I don't always
have that kind of situation as far as editing goes.
But throughout it all, I've been able to find a
way to sneak in some wrestling, to watch it, to
enjoy it. And yes, you know, there's been so much
(01:51):
has happened with rest of Palooza with that's being, you know,
the preparation to it, to the final premiere of it,
to the react to it, to the reviews that are
coming out of ESPN that are just straight up dog
and WWE, which is pretty funny to me, and maybe
(02:12):
I don't know, it seems a little retaliatory, doesn't it.
I don't think ESPN might be happy that ww's with them.
I don't think anybody's happy, except for the people at
TKO and higher ups at Disney regardless. Welcome to the
After Dark Show. We are going to talk about We're
gonna talk about life, We're gonna talk about wrestling. Let's
(02:34):
get into wrestling first and then we can go into
more personal stuff. Recipalooza. I know everybody's talked about it
at Nauseum, and I just wanted to give my personal
experience about it. The reason being is not mostly just
because of my review of it, but because of my
experience of it. As you know, I'm in Los Angeles
(02:57):
here and I.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Got to experience and sit at the Cosm.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
And if you don't know what the Cosm is, it
is these incredibly huge screens that make you feel like
you are immersed to what you're watching. Specifically, they are
built to make you feel like you are immersed at
a live event at a basketball game, a football game, soccer,
(03:23):
and in this case, wrestling, and they place these cameras
in front row position or in really really desirable shots,
in places that make you feel like you have the
premiere seats of watching it. And so I went to Cosm.
I watched Recapalooza there. Funny enough, the whole reason why
(03:46):
we went to Cosm was because I was talking to
a work body of mine and he was just talking about, Hey,
how are you going to watch Recapalooza, And then I said, well,
I have ESPN on my Hulu because I have Hulul TV,
so it would be already kind of part of that package,
(04:07):
and he's like, Okay, well, I don't know if I'm
going to do that. It's like, well, you can always
come to my place if you want to watch it.
A few minutes later, he's like, hey, Luis, there's Ressapaloosa
at the Cosm, you know that really big screen. And
I was like, oh, yeah, I've always wanted to check
it out. They always show promote it in the show.
How much is it? So it ended up being like
(04:31):
one hundred and some twenty bucks sort of just to
get seats, but I wanted to experience it for the
first time. There's only two locations I think in the world,
one in LA and one in Dallas, so I knew
it was a very exclusive experience, and I thought it'd
be kind of, you know, fun to experience it for this,
(04:54):
especially because I thought Russapalooza would be kind of I
think we all thought it would be a very big event,
a kind of mini wrestled media sorts as they try
to promote or try to buddy up towards their you know,
new platform, ESPN, as they were heavily heavily promoting themselves
(05:16):
with ESPN the weeks before and on raw or SmackDown
or whatever they were like doing infomercials with our truth
about how to watch Rescipalooza on ESPN.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
That was crazy. If you haven't seen that SmackDown, I.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Guess you can check it out if you want. So
I went, and let me tell you, I had a blast.
It was awesome. I think it was so awesome that
it kind of warped my perception.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Of the actual.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Pl that because I went online and everyone hated it.
I mean everyone slammed on it, and yeah, it wasn't
anything special. What was worse was that obviously John Cena
like whatever got squashed. That sucks, especially because this is
(06:18):
like his last time. Look, we all feel the same way.
I feel the same way. That was kind of a
bummer to see it there, But honestly, overall, like watching
it with the experience there at the Cosm was very
very cool. That it kind of washed away maybe that
poor experience people got at home. As you can tell,
(06:40):
the audio has has significantly changed a little bit, or
has changed a little bit. I am now recording in
a new space. I got kicked out of my old space.
But we're going to keep going doing the podcast. So yes,
the cameras. Let's talk about the cameras. Where they're at
is actually a camera embedded into one of the turnbuckles
(07:03):
or into one of the posts, and there's also a
camera that is kind of front row, but it's low
front row because you know, it's like where the barricade
is at the top of that barricade, so it's still
pretty low looking up.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
And then there's a wide shot of the ring and such.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
But for the most part you were at that turn buckle,
which honestly was a very good angle, and you felt
very into it intimate of a whole situation.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
So yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
I mean, it's really funny because your experience of who
you're with and where you watch it and what your
expectations can really color your enjoyment of something. And I
think because it was just something new and exciting, I
was able to enjoy it. And really I feel like
if you go to any experience there, you're going to
(08:01):
enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Regardless of what the turnout is.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
And again, you know, we all expected so much going
into it and didn't get what we wanted, and that sucks.
I did, however, go to ESPN app just to like
see myself because they did cut to the cosm at
a moment in the broadcast and I was like, oh, well,
(08:27):
let me see if I can find myself blah blah blah,
and almost immediately I got inundated with an AD and
I was like, oh no, this this kind of sucks.
I know there were ads online saying that they were online.
They were saying there were ads in the middle of
the PLA, which is crazy. I know it didn't interrupt
(08:49):
a match, but still the fact that there is it's
still kind of crazy to me. And you know, we're
paying pay per view prices and not getting that pay
per view experience. I say pay per view because you
know that's how much thirty bucks was for pay per view.
That's how much we're paying for the ples. If you
don't have live TV and things like that, and you're
(09:12):
paying that price, but you're still getting ads. So even
when I was scrubbing through the content just to get
to where I wanted there were, it started off with
an ad and it looked like there were future.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Ads coming up.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
But that sucks, Like I just want to sometimes I
just want to go to a pl and just jump
into a match, or you know, scrub through it or
look through it or whatever, and I don't want to
get stopped by a fucking ad. I am curious to
see what it's going to be like for Crown Jewel.
(09:52):
I don't know if we'll go to the Cosm again. However,
my friend does have a connection, so we'll be go.
I don't know, but I imagine we'll go again in
the future because the experience was too cool. But I
will experience our ESPN at sometime. I will see how
y'all are feeling about it, because.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know, but
I tell you what.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I am glad that ESPN is being honest with WWE,
and maybe this could be a blessing in disguise for
them to shape it up, because now it is starting
to get that feeling of like man, where the story
is feeling secondary to.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
What they're selling to the.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
To the what are they called to the product, you know,
where we're throwing things together just to get eyeballs. Well,
of course you've always wanted to have that, You've always
wanted to have good booking to do that, but it's
like we're usually you have good story lines match of
(11:00):
that booking and so I don't know's it is a
very interesting time to be a wrestling fan.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Am I gonna stop watching?
Speaker 1 (11:07):
No? Have I started skipping some matches just so I
can get through some stuff. Yes, that sucks, but that's
kind of the state of my life, and that's the
state we're in. I mean, I can't even watch movies.
I can't even sit down and watch movies all the
way through anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
That sucks. Honestly, I hate it. I hate that so much.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
I am always someone who's like a peer viewer, watching
beginning to end, no interruptions type of experience.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
That's the type of person I am.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
But I can't even be that anymore because of life responsibilities,
because of just you know, being healthy. I can't stay
up late every single night just to watch the content
that I want without interruption. I'm doing a Pta Anderson
(12:00):
watch down right now because of his movie One Battle
after Another starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, Benicia del Toro,
and it comes out what today, I'm.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Recording Thursday comes out tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Well, it comes out today as well, but I'm trying
to watch all of them in preparation for my pod
other podcast that comes out next week, and it's it's tough.
It sucks like I haven't been able to watch all
these movies in one go sometimes and that's unfortunate. Same
with wrestling. So wrestling, you know, am I gonna stop?
(12:35):
I don't know, but there are a few storylines that
are keeping me locked in and for that I will watch.
And you know, the PL's are always an event. There
are always something to watch, and that one I feel
like I could watch all the matches.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
But yeah, what welcome to the world, like.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
I talked, I said this, y'all, I said this at
the beginning of my after Darks.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Is that Welcome to the era? The ad Era?
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Is that what I called it? I don't remember what
it was. I'm over here, Yes, the ad Era. Welcome
to the ad Era, and we're here doing.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
That, and.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Yeah, I don't know where we're gonna be at. It's
just like, how desperate are we, y'all? How desperate are
we for more money? And it is starting to ruin
the experience of it all. Okay, that was my experience
of COSM.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Again.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
You know me, I watch LFG. There is one more
episode left. The finale of LFG, Let's fucking go, Let's
freaking go, or the way that it's phrased out legends
and future greats, legends and future greats. So, now, what's
(14:05):
happening with this show? They started off with eight women
and eight men. Now with the last couple episodes, we
have eliminated from four men to four women.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
And how did they do that? Well?
Speaker 1 (14:19):
In each team there was there are four teams, and
in each team there are two men and two women,
so for the first round of eliminations you had to
go one on one against your own teammate, so you know,
they can get pretty dicey there, and people who you
expect may move forward aren't moving forward. And it would
(14:41):
be interesting what happens with LFG season three as far
as people returning not returning. It felt like this was
a situation where if you are an up and comer
wrestler at the Performance Center and you don't really progress
that well in this season, you may not come back
for season three again. And so this was a fight
(15:04):
not just for an NXT title an NXT shot, but
for a shot to come back in the season.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
And there were some.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Surprises, some people that showed up and that was really cool.
I think the biggest takeaway is that you know, there
was an ask by all the coaches here, Bubba Ray, Undertaker,
Michelle McCool, Bookrot to say, you need to step it
up and prove to me that you are better than
(15:40):
the front runner here, and people showed up and it
was That was really cool because it is inspiring to
see those moments of someone stepping up, getting the job done.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
And possibly making it forward. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
I don't want to it for y'all, but like again,
next week is the finale, So if you just wanted
to skip to the finale and see the best of
the best, then you can.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I think it's the finale.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
I mean, I imagine it is, unless they do another episode
and it's like a very specialized episode. But either way,
you'll know who will be the finals, who will be
the people who potentially have a chance to.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Go to NXT. So tune in for that. I will
try to review that the.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Following week next week and if things aren't too busy,
we'll get the job done. Thinking about the rest of
the state of wrestling, I think I got.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Nothing else to say. I got nothing else to say.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
I had to move into a car to continue this podcast,
and it is getting hot here in California.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
I don't even know what the degrees are. I don't
even have my phone. Do you have my phone?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Let's see it is freakin' okay, it's eighty degrees, but
in a car gets pretty hot.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
So I'm gonna wrap up the podcast.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I know it's not the full twenty, but I'm delivering
you a little bit of my experience with Cosm, a
little bit of eloped J. Tune in next week we'll
get into more of that stuff. Until next time, it's
been me Louis Gonzales. Make sure to check out my
other podcast called Punch Drunk NERD, where we're gonna review
Alien Earth. We're gonna talk about the new Wolverine video game.
Looks pretty cool. But yes, until next time, it's been
(17:30):
me Louis Gonzales, and
Speaker 2 (17:34):
See you
