WWE podcast, the one that everybody wants me.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
So work.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yours is my You can acknowledge me.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, Hello, whatever time it
is with you and wherever you are. Thank you for
downloading this SmackDown review as part of the WWE podcast.
As always, it's an absolute pleasure to have you listening along.
I am Amanda your host of the SmackDown Review. Guys.
As I've mentioned before, I am back on X and
I am at Amanda SD review, so please give me
(00:56):
a follow. Before we get started with this we SmackDown,
let's have a real quick look through the Wrestle Paloser
card and some predictions. So first off, we've got Cmpunk
and aj Lee versus Seth Rawlings and Becky Lynch Max
in a mixed tag team match. For me, this could
(01:17):
be night match of the night. It has to be
an AJ and Punk win. Then they should go on
and face Becky and Seth respectively for the titles. Probably
won't surprise you to hear that I disagree with Matt.
I would hate to see Seth or Punk hit their
finishers on either Aj or Becky. For me, I just
(01:40):
think that's not the right message to be putting out there.
Just my opinion. I would much rather see see what
we've had for the last few years. Look, I get
Matt's point does seem ridiculous, particularly with the likes of Becky,
who was literally pounding on Punk the other day, It
(02:03):
did seem a bit ridiculous, But I just think that
is a line to cross, and once we start doing
you know, stomps or gts on the women's wrestlers, I
just think it's not the right message to be putting
out into the ether. That's just my opinion. Moving on,
John Cena versus brock Wesson of this has to be
(02:25):
a Sena win for me and the reveal of seeing
his last opponent at the end, and I am still
going for Jericho guys. I think seeing his last opponent
is going to be Chris Jericho Wellen's World Championship ESEs
Guy versus Stephanie Vaker. I think this will be a
great match and I have Stephanie for the win to
(02:46):
take her first world title. Some shenanigans from Asca and
Kirie to a lesser extent, will start off the ascer
Eo feud, which I think will be a really good one.
On disput WWE Championship Cody versus Drew. Cody win for
me all the way, it's way too soon for WWE
(03:08):
to take the title off him. Then I've got the
Ussos versus the Vision, so Jimmy and j versus the Bronze,
a win for the Vision and a Jay Heel turn,
some shenanigans possibly from La Night. What about some other
possible returns. We know that WWE are really pushing the
(03:30):
boat out on this is the first ESPN PL. It's
going to be big, So some other possible returns. Maybe
too early for Live but that would be a good one.
And whoever seen his last opponent opponent will be is
likely to show. Despite its ridiculous name. I think it
(03:52):
will be a really good show. Let's get to it
and review the SmackDown a September nineteen from Ohio. We
kick off with arrivals and we see Drew for his
contract signing with Cody later on and likewise we see
Cody arrive. We've got Chelsea coming with Albert. They've got
(04:12):
the tag team title shot tonight against Flair and Bliss
and also Mellow, who will face Sammy tonight as part
of the US Title Open Challenge. And thank god, as
Xavier and Kofi would say, we have Cole and Graves
back on Comms, and for me, this is the best
(04:32):
news of the week. Last week's Comms was just cringey
and awful. They start off by talking up ESPN and
how excited they are for the new era, and you know,
I think anyone who signs a contract with WWE for
broadcasting should have a no bitching about us clause for
(04:53):
when it ends, because this is very true to form
with WWE. They you know, start off with all the
you know, pyro and all the spectacular stuff, and then
by the end they're like, yeah, we're just going to
give you this crappy pl or crappy last episode of
Raw on the old network, and then we're going to
have a spectacular next week because we're really excited about
(05:14):
in the era, which doesn't see it doesn't seem particularly fair.
So if it was me, which is not, that's what
I do. Cole says that he was due to do
an interview with Brock later on tonight, but Brock wants
him to do it straight away, So Cole leaves the
desk and heads backstage, but is met on the ramp
by Brock and he gets a good pop. Here in Ohio,
(05:38):
Cole looks like he pooped himself as Brooke scoops him
up and carries him into the ring, dumping him down
like a dog toy, and that certainly gets Brock and
heat as the crowd to start booing him. Corey gets
in the ring and tries to reason with Brock and
gets hoisted up and takes an F five. Now does
this mean that Corey is now cleared for action? That
(05:59):
could be excited? Brock grabs the camera and screams to
see her that tomorrow night is D Day and he's
coming for blood. Interestingly, here sidebar, there's a sign in
the crowd front and center that says he shouldn't be
here and we all know why, which is the first
time I've seen anything like that in the crowd. And Interestingly,
(06:20):
throughout the rest of the episode, we never go back
to that part of the crowd again. So whether or
not security came and took it away, or whether from
Gorilla they just instructed the cameras not to focus on
that point, but that's the first time I've seen that.
Brock now back in the ring, scattery officials who are
trying to look at Corey, picks him up again and
delivers another massive F five or was a real big one.
(06:44):
He leaves the ring after getting seen her to come
out to this time massive booze from the crowd. They
do not like it when the comms team are messed with.
That's quite a different start for sure tonight. I don't
mind it at all, a bit of a break from
the normal guy or girl cuts a promo start. Interesting
that Corey can take bumps, especially that second five, which
(07:06):
was particularly gnarly. Are we going to see a Corey
Grave return to the ring. I'm not sure if that's
the thing we want to see or not. Let me know.
I like what they're doing here with Brock's character building
up to be a total well beast excuse the pun,
and he's completely out of control with no FS to give,
(07:27):
doing exactly what he wants. We go straight back to
the ring, where Corey is looking pretty rough and Cole
is looking unconcerned. And this is kind of weird. We've
got no comms obviously, as they've both been beat up,
So we just have vts just running and it's all
very quiet, which, as I said, it's interesting bit weird.
(07:48):
We go backstage and we find Brock bumps into Hayman.
Brock just says to Haymen, we should talk. Harman looks
very pleased, and Brock leaves the arena. He's followed by
Nick Ortis, who says to Hayman, today is not the day.
He has a contract signing and he's to get two
signatures and he doesn't need any more problems. Hamer says,
(08:10):
he's here tonight, broke a piece between the Bronze and
the usso's. Nick tells him that the ussos aren't even here.
So Hayman tells him basically blows smoke up his ass,
tells him he's the best GM, he loves how he
puts the show together and runs everything, and that him
and the Bronze are just going to enjoy the show.
A likely story. What are these up to here? Well,
(08:31):
I guess the other big thing that could happen at
Russell Palooza is a new member of the Vision. Could
it be Brock? No, that would be completely absurd. There's
no way that Brock would willingly be seth bitch right.
We go back out to the ring side, where we
see Cole looking very sorry for himself, making his way
(08:53):
back to his comm's position. He says that Corey is
getting medical attention because he says he came to help him.
He says he's been doing this for a long time.
He's been beat up, a man handled, but he has
never felt as helpless as he did out there tonight.
And he says, if that's what a wait's seeing her tomorrow,
he doesn't know if John has the answers. I thought
(09:15):
this was a great opening as a whole segment. I
thought it was a really good opening to the show.
Really selling Brockers and Monster using Corey and Cole was
genius and unexpected. Working in Hayman's return and the questions
they're all really really good. So big thumbs up from
me for this whole segment, which obviously took us to
(09:37):
the ring, backstage, back to the ring, really really good stuff.
Cole tells us that he's going to try and carry
on and he's going to try and get an update
on Corey's condition. He reminds us that this match was
due to take place a few weeks back, but due
to the pre match attack on Charlotte, it was postponed.
So this is the women's tagma. So we've got Flair
(10:01):
and Bliss out still getting some great reactions. Chelsea makes
her entrance. Cole reminds us of when Sina faced Brock
at some slam a decade ago and was absolutely decimated,
and he makes a big point of saying, and that
was when he was in his prime. This one kicks
off with Flair and Chelsea. Quick tag brings in Bliss
(10:25):
and Alba, who is on Buyer no pun intended Colder
in a great job of selling how distracted he is
with what's just happened as well. Meanwhile, Alba has the
upper hand smashing Bliss's head into the ring post. Any
kind of things that mess with Bliss's head always make
me a little bit uncomfortable seeing the documentary, the Free
(10:47):
six five documentary on Bliss and her struggles with concussion. Yes,
I know it's fake and I know she's not really
hitting her head against the ring post, but still sends
a bit of a shiver down my spine. Halfway through
Bliss getting a beat down from Chelsea, we get missed
down to ringside to sit on coms with Coal. Miss
(11:07):
is selling what a badass Brock is and tells Cole
that if he comes back out here, he won't be
protecting him. He's basically in a leg it and he
says that's what Sina should do tomorrow night. So this
is all really great. I'm loving how they're building this
and running Fredge through the show. So far, really good.
Back to the match in the ring, we've got Bliss
fighting back, also manages to get almost manages to get
(11:30):
a much needed tag, but Flair is taken out on
the rapron by Albert Fire. Finally, though Bliss does get
a tag, We've got Flair in. She's kicking us and
just about takes Albert's head off with a ginormous clothesline.
Chelsea gets a really close cover that Bliss has to
break up, and the champs hit double natural selection, getting
(11:52):
the pin and retaining the titles. This is a I
thought it was a surprisingly good match. Actually, Chelsea and
now But look good as a tag team. I don't
know what the situation is with Piper Nivin at the moment.
I hope she returns soon, but let's be honest, there
was no way Bliss and Flair were losing their titles
(12:13):
here tonight, miss On Comms were another nice surprise, actually
pretty good and made some good points about what happens
when they lose the titles. Will that cause Bliss to
spiral back to the dark side? Now? Is that a
clue that she might eventually hook up with the Whita
at six? I mean, we know this can't go on forever.
(12:35):
They are two of the division's biggest single stars, so
what's next for them? I don't remember in recent memory
after NXT at least, I don't remember Flair ever being
this over with the crowds. So, if anything, I'm sure
she's reluctant to split up this partnership. But let's see
(12:55):
next we go backstage where we have Beefab and the
Street Profits. Beefab telling them that they've been together a
long time, they're like brothers and it's normal that sometimes
they don't get along, but if Tag Team Gold is
what they want, they need to find a way of
getting past whatever this is and doing what is best
for the Street Profits. Meeching interrupts and says that Nick
(13:17):
wants to talk to them about having a tag team
match and Dawkins and Fords have a handshake and Ford
says he's going to talk to Nick about how they
get back in the tag title picture. As he walks off,
we linger we linger on Dawkins and who looks less
(13:42):
than convinced, and we get Bo Dallas appear from behind
him and he says, your brother doesn't want you to
hear what I have to say, what you have to say,
but I will listen. Ford comes back and gets Bo
Dallas up against the wall, asking what he's trying to do.
Dallas just laughs and Rowan comes from takes them both out.
(14:02):
So this is interesting. Are we getting the end of
the profits? And what's the WYAT six's game? Is it
just to split them up or are they trying to
recruit one or the other. How do we feel about
one of the profits going a bit spooky Wookie? Now,
I don't mind. Let's see. It's an interesting angle for sure,
and I think we have all been angling after the
(14:24):
split of the profits for quite some time. We don't
have a random and very weird backstage skip with Truth
in a booth, which is ESPN trying to tell people
how they can watch wrestle per Loser tomorrow night, ale
Angle and Berto come over and he tells them this
is the ESPN genius. Bart, I can't even and I
(14:44):
don't care. I understand obviously why they're having to do this.
There's a lot of publicity that people in America don't
know how to access ESPN. They don't know how to
watch this, so I guess that's the problem. The rest
of us are all going to just watch on Netflix.
And I suppose maybe most people in America have probably
got a VPN like I do. When I'm away out
(15:06):
of the UK, I just use my VPN to connect
to Netflix, and similarly, if I want to watch something
from outside the UK, I think it's the thing that
most people have now. It's not a lot of money anyway,
so I know why they're doing it, but it was
stupid and dumb and I hated it. Next in the Ring,
we have Phraxium, and before it can even start, we
(15:26):
have them be attacked by the Bronze. As Hayman approaches
the Ring, Mike in heighth in hand, he says that
Phraxium reminds him of the USO is down and out
and victimized. As he is talking, Fraxium comes back to
the ring and take out the Bronze as Hayman's scarp
as Nick comes out and tells them, tells them off
(15:47):
the start in a fight and makes the match Phraxium
versus the Division Division. Sorry, and that's right now, So wait,
Praxium on their way to the ring anyway, they were
all dressed in their they got announced like as if
they had a match. So who were they originally, especially
having a match with maybe no One, maybe someone, But
(16:08):
they were obviously meant to be having a match because
they came out to the ring, got announced to the ring,
and then got jumped anyway, never mind, doesn't match, just
a small point. This one kicks off. Hayman's got a
face like a slapdash and the Bronze face off with
Phraxium and the Bronze don't seem to be taking Phraxium
very seriously, but actually they probably should because Praxium are
(16:31):
really fast. They've got some awesome tag team moves. They
start off strongly but are soon overpowered by Breaker. Axiom
is hit with a spear after being chucked off the
top by Reed, and Fraser is flattened with the tsunami.
And that's how this one ends as the Bronze get
the win for the Vision. At the end of the match,
(16:52):
we get Haymen back on the mic. He says the
spoiler for Russell Palooza is the winners are the Bronze.
We're gonna get the USOS up on the Big Green.
They are in fact in Indianapolis already, and they cut
a standard USO promo on the Bronze. And to be fair,
they do seem to be on the same page for now,
but I still think Jay is turning heel this weekend.
(17:15):
Weird choice of teams to feed to the Vision to
give them a pre prely rub but grimly inevitable, I guess.
And talking of grimly inevitable, next up we have Naya
Jack's Hi Cole says that Naya once again has forced
herself into the picture. It's true and we all know it. Apparently.
(17:38):
I heard this week through various different outlets, podcast news, etc.
That Tiffy is legitimately injured following a dodgy landing which
looked pretty bad when you see it back from I
think was it last week's SmackDown? Anyway, I hope she's
back fighting fits soon. I'd be absolutely gutted. If Tiffy
has to relinquish the title, that's not what we want
(17:59):
to see. The crowd don't seem at all happy to
see Nia. She tells them that she is sick of
being in this disgusting town. She says, she is sick
of the division, and it's embarrassing that all these women
continue to call themselves the alpha female. But let's get
one thing clear, she is the alpha female. Massive huge booze.
(18:20):
She goes on to take the pee out of Tiffy,
saying how annoying she is. She says that's why she
had to put her in a tiffy time out last week.
She says to Jade that if she could trade appearances
with anyone in the division, it would be Jade, as
she looks incredible. Wow, just no, But if Jade could
(18:40):
trade in ringability with anyone, it would be me. Nya
Jacks Again, No, I don't think so, Nya says, let's
face it, she could use it. Wow, pot meat kettle.
Nia says that Jade is great right up until she
gets in the ring. She says, she's the most dominant,
(19:02):
and she's the alpha, and she will annihilate any Tiffy
time or any storm. Thankfully, at that point of his
music hits and she comes right out and tyles Naya
whateveryone is actually sick off? Is you running your mouth
about Tiffy? She says, No one wants you near the title?
Truth right there, she says. As for Jade, she's no
(19:24):
superhero either. She calls them both delusion or she says
she's champion, and she makes her way to the ring
but is stopped by officials. We then have Jade making
her way to the ring right past Tiffy to Naya.
Nick comes out and makes a triple threat match for
next week. So guys, listen back. I called this last
(19:45):
week triple threat. Let's hope Tiffy is fit and able
to retain. I can't. I can't. Don't want another Naya
run for sure. I definitely don't want a j run
as it's a triple threat. I guess we've got plenty
of scope for Shenanigan's and interference, so he's hoping we
(20:05):
get something that prevents a Night or Jade getting the win.
I don't want to see either of them with the
title not yet. Backstage to Truth again, and I can't
even honestly, there's issues with ESPN and they've put in
these stupid comedy skits that I can't anyway. Next up
(20:27):
in the ring, we've got Mellow versus Sammy for the
US title, and with miss On Comms, one wonders what
might be about to happen. Mis tells us that Mellow,
though has asked him not to get involved in this
match tonight, and it kicks off of Mellow having the
upper hand and putting in a really good account of himself,
actually pretty much taking Sammy's head off with a leg
(20:50):
drop over the bottom rope. We've then got Sammy from
nowhere hitting a blue Thunderblomb and gets a super close
to count. Miss On Comm's very actually talking about Mellow
as you'd expect. As Mellow goes for a splash from
the top, Sammy has his knees up. Mellow hits a
great springboard off the rope and misses nothing but net,
leaving Sammy to hit another Blue Thunderbomb to get the
(21:12):
win and retain the US title. The Open Challenge so
far has produced brilliant matches, and long may it continue.
This is exactly what he's meant to do. Give match
time and TV time to some of the brilliant mid
card part of the roster. So I have got nothing
but praise for the US Open Challenge from Sammy so far.
(21:40):
We then go backstage to Nick, who has Elton Prince
with him, who says he's talking about toxic masculinity. He's
saying that it's an epidemic and a disease around the
locker room. He's interrupted by Priest, who is kicking off
massively about the events of last week's match and demands
to have another go round Black. He's interrupted by Elton,
(22:02):
who says that this is exactly what he's talking about,
with the toxic masculinity and fragile egos. Priest puts him
through the wall, which, well, obviously fake wall still looked
pretty cool. I like that. I'm not sure that this
is the right angle for pretty Deadly. I think they'll
end up just getting their asses well and truly kicked. Also,
(22:23):
it's a bit of a dumb angle, isn't it. Honestly,
all this alpha female and toxic masculinity stuff. It's like
we've gone back in time with this week's show. I
don't know, it's just it's not like that is It.
It's just people wrestling Palente. Let's not do this. This
is where stuff starts getting divisive and crazy. Anyway, we
(22:47):
get the second half of the video package of the
story and history of Seen It and Brock. I've forgotten
how mad I was that it was Brock who beat
the Streak, the Undertaker's streak, if you remember. Next up,
we've got the contract signing for the Drew and Cody
match up at Russell Palooser. But before that, we get
(23:07):
a Solar promo. He calls out Tonga lower and gives
him his flowers, tells him how great he was, says
that he's let them down, but if he trusts him,
he will give him titles. Tongo tells Solo that he
loves him, and I guess for next week or so,
we will go through the whole m FT with a
(23:30):
similar setup. I'm not too fussed for what happens with
Solo or the mft's here, so let's see how it
plays out. Let's keep an open mind. Personally, I'm quite
over the whole bloodline and derivative of the bloodline thing,
but equally I understand that there's so much, so many
(23:50):
people that could be linked into it. I guess I
know why they do it and why they're continuing it,
but I think we needed something a bit different injected
in it. So let's see what they do. We now
have Nick in the ring for the contract signing, and
first he brings out Drew, who looks smug as ever
despite the massive booze, and before he can speak, Cody's
(24:12):
music kits and he comes out to huge cheers. This
match could not get any more face versus heel. Cody says,
before we sign, he has a question. Do you know
what happened on this day fifteen years ago? That was
you and I won the Tag Team Championships and nobody
backstage is talking about it? And do you know why?
(24:32):
That's because the world doesn't revolve around you or me.
It's not our story, it's their story. Playing massively to
the crowd as always, he says, it's simple. They just
want to watch two of the best guys fight. He
says he understands who Drew is. In the past, he's
been a champ, he won the Rumble and even slayd
the Beast. He is the Scottish Warrior, But lately the
(24:53):
Scottish Warrior has just been a keyboard warrior and he
knows it. He says, get out your phone, post on
social media. Give it to him. It is the last
three shot he's going to get. Drew gets his phone
out and shows his phone to Cody, and he's written
a tweet and it says thank you Cody. Cody asks
what that means, and Drew tells him it means exactly
(25:14):
what it says. He tells him that all he's wanted
all this time is a legit title shot and Cody
he's given him that he didn't know. Goes to talk
Cody down, saying that he's the ultimate company guy. He says,
you're always thinking about the company. He's basically a corporate champion.
Drew tells him that sooner or later, the fans are
(25:34):
going to turn on him, and then he will know
that Drew was right. Cody says, what if you're wrong?
What if your legacy becomes the guy who lost? Again?
They both sign and surprise, surprise, Drew blindside Cody with
a head butt and starts beating down Cody, lining up
to kick his head through the announced table again, but
(25:56):
he doesn't. He tells Cody that he's taking the title tomorrow,
and he's not going to do anything to jeopardize that
match or that opportunity. Cody makes a comeback by coming
through the ring, jumping over the ropes and starts to
beat down on Drew. With everyone out again trying to
pull these two apart. We go off air with Drew
(26:19):
legit looking like he stumped on Cody's head, and again
I am aware that he probably didn't, but it looked
pretty damn real well. I mean, that was a bit predictable.
A contract signing ends in a pull apart brawl? Who
would have thought it a But sometimes you know you
can't beat the classics, So nothing else awry Tonight's show
(26:41):
makes me want to change any of my predictions for
Russell Paloozer. The show itself was decent, thankfully a lot
better than last week. The Sammy Mellow match was a
standout for me, as was the woman's tag title match.
The Freeway next week can just do one for me? Basically,
I didn't care less about that. Do you think the
(27:01):
point of having miss on comms was like a testa
or like an audition to see about the possibility of
transitioning mis to that role? I don't mind that at all.
I thought he was good there with Cole, and then
what about Corey? Do we think an in ring return
or was that a one off? So all in all,
this show much better than the last week, A good
(27:24):
go home show for Wrestle Paloozer. Before we sign off,
I forgot to mention at the beginning of the show,
what did we think of Bailey's return on RAW? I no,
I'm not here to review RAW. Matt does an absolutely phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Job of that.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
But I feel like we've been keeping track on Bailey
on this show and I really enjoyed it. I like it.
I think we are going to get Bailey going slowly
a bit mad, this split personality thing between the hugger,
the role model and then the weird bland thing that
happened in the middle, and I really like it. I
(27:59):
think are really leaning in to what probably was communications
from the fans saying, what the hell's going on with Bailey?
She has no personality, she has no direction, and actually
she's phenomenal. So I think it feels to me like
they've really leaned into that and now they're giving us
this demented hugger version of Bailey, which I am completely
(28:22):
here for I think it's going to be an awesome run.
So let's keep half a night on how that goes.
So Wrestle Pal Looser tomorrow night or tonight as I'm
recording Saturday morning, so let's see how that goes. Fingers crossed,
the Ajle and Punk have a good account of themselves.
(28:43):
That just about does it for this week's show. As always,
thank you for having me in your ears, and remember,
until next time, be kind.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Horrible.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
