Speaker 1 (00:02):
Listen WWE superstar Drew mcintarr, and you're listening to the
WWE podcast show, the one that everybody wants me.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
So work yours. This is my you're gonna acknowledge me.
Good morning, good afternoon, good eve in, Hello, whatever time
it is with you and wherever you are. Thank you
for downloading this SmackDown review as part of the WWE podcast.
As always, it's an absolute pleasure to have you listening along.

(00:45):
I am Amanda your host of this SmackDown review, and
as you know, I am back on X and I
am at amanda SD review. Please reach out, give me
a follow. Let's talk so a couple of bits just
before we get into our main event, which is our
SmackDown review, And we've got confirmation on this week's Raw

(01:07):
that Naomi is pregnant and has relinquished the title. Now,
I actually loved how they did that. Her chasing off
Adam Pearce and telling her she's not going to relinquish
anything to him and then cutting a totally healed promo
as her last act was absolute perfection. And obviously we
wait to hear what the crack is going to be

(01:28):
with how the title will be handled, now and first
shout out to Kieran Mini who on X who reached
out to me this week. He thinks that maybe a
Bianca or live angle, which I think is a great
shout well done. I think I'd love to see Live returns.

(01:49):
Furious with the judgment Day Girls Raquel and Roxanne for
losing the tag titles, goes on an absolute tear wins
the title. I like it, and controversially I know, but
I'm going to say I'm still loving this. Bailey angle
over on Raw looks like I am on with my
prediction that she completely turns into a deranged hugger, and

(02:13):
again I am completely there for that looks brilliant. Anyway,
let's get to it and review the SmackDown. The ad
on Friday, the twenty second of August from Dublin Ireland
and Water treat to have the WWE back in Europe
and on our time zone. So as I'm recording this,
it's twenty past ten on Friday night, apart other than

(02:38):
it being the following day, which it often is, so
this is about as live review as it gets. We
have our arrivals, we get Logan Paul and the Street
profits with b fab and the MFTs. They're all in
action tonight, and we've got Charlotte and she's going to
face Piper Niven as well later on this evening. Now,

(03:00):
first of all, the crowd are absolutely mad for it,
even giving Wade, as he says an Englishman, a massive
cheer and a welcome to the show. First out, we've
got Becky Lynch obviously first of all getting a huge
hometown cheer. I'll say it again, brand split? What brand split?

(03:22):
I mean, I don't mind. We get to see Becky
on SmackDown and that's cool, but still you know she
has mic in hand. But the crowd right net has
start yet they are totally full of it, absolutely loving
seeing Becky. She says that this is the first WWE
live televised event from Dublin Island. The crowd start. You

(03:44):
deserve it chant and she does some reminiscing about the
arena where they are tonight when she used to come
there as a fan, and she says she's always dreamed
they could have TV and now she finally gets to
say it, and then it happens there she goes. She says,
they don't deserve it. She says she even petitioned in
the back to get the show canceled, and just like that,

(04:06):
they start hearing for Lyra and we get a massive
we want Lyra chant going up. Becky says that she
isn't here and she starts bad mailthing the crowd. She
says they don't appreciate her. She says she is aghast
at the lack of TV coverage she's received in Ireland,
and she says that she is their hero and she

(04:27):
shouldn't have to tell them that as that's not how
heroing works, which is a brilliant line. And now the
crowd move on and they are chanting shut the f up.
She says that she is let down by all of
the crowd. She calls herself the greatest female wrestler of
all time, and it's not just her saying that it's illutrated.

(04:48):
She says she's the first woman to main event WrestleMania,
and the crowd start who are you? Who are you?
Who are you? Chant? Completely hilarious. She's on top of
all that and all her accomplishments, she also has a
very hot American husband and she deserves a parade or
a statue. She says that the media will write opinion

(05:12):
pieces on Katie Taylor. She says she's a very good boxer,
but can she cut a promo? No, she can't. She
goes off just like pretty much all Irish celebrities until
she's cut off by Tiffy. To be honest, everyone seems
glad that Becky has finally been shut up. Tiffy tells

(05:33):
Becky she doesn't understand how she can be so ungrateful
to Dublin, and also she's on the wrong show. I'm
glad someone pointed it out. You're on the wrong evening, Becky.
Tiffy says she likes Ireland and everyone knows what time
it is. It's Tiffy time. She tells Becky she can
leave or on behalf of everyone, she will make her
leave cute randomly here Naya Jacks is music. She's out tabooze,

(05:59):
not heally booze like Becky's getting and dom gets right
heel heat. This is like exasperated get lost. Oh no
eye roll type booze like ugh, genuine like f off booze.
She tells Tiffy, why you concern with Becky? Nya agrees

(06:20):
about Dublin, saying it sucks the crowd do the who
are you chance? Again? Nya tells Tiffy she has much
bigger problems than that, and the heels then start to
lay into Tiffy. We get Jade out, who makes the
save flattens Naya. Jade and Becky go to face off,

(06:41):
but Tiffy kicks Naya off the ring. Apron then get
nick alled us out to make the main event, and
it's of course going to be Becky and Nyat versus
Jade and Tiffy. Well, what did we think of that
as an opening segment? Like Sammy last week? We have
a random non SmackDown appearance, but I guess it is

(07:04):
Becky and it is Ireland as a heel. Becky is great,
and wow, does she ever cut one hell of a promo.
She went from Lad's Lads look were on TV to
the whole crowd swearing at her in the space of
about a minute. It was an absolute masterclass of a
promo and had the crowd in the absolute palm of

(07:26):
her hand. Great to see her interact with Tiffy and
then Nya coming out and her much more of a
paint by numbers a to be robotic promo. She didn't
seem to register the crowd, no comebacks for the chance
and the total snoozefest Jade coming out, Well there we go,
I guess. So yeah for Tiffy and Becky and a

(07:48):
sigh of indifference. I'm going to say to the appearance
of Nia and Jade, even though should be a decent match.
Let's see, I've got to say that I do hope
SmackDown shapes up to be better than the last couple. Have.
They haven't been Vince Era bad, don't get me wrong,
nothing like it, but they have slipped from what was
a great standard previously. Are we going to get Lyra

(08:12):
at some point this evening? Backstage, now we've got Mellow.
He's met up with Fraxi him and they tell him
how great he was last week. Phraser tells him to
watch out for Mes as he's a schemer. Millow, Mellow
excuse me. Mello defends him, says he's a future Hall
of Famer, he's a goat, and he says that the

(08:33):
Mis is smarter than everyone and that's how they are
in this position. So we now have Melo and Mes
versus the MotorCity and machine Guns. Not delighted as I
discussed last week that we are obsuing the team of
Mello and Mis, but let's try and keep an open mind.
We've got the guys on comms building the fact that

(08:53):
last week Melo seemed to do all the hard work
and miss Nick the glory at the end, and I'm wondering,
is that going to be the angle here? This one
kicks off with Miss in with Saban as Mellow gets
a blind tag and he starts off with Sabin himself
and the crowd chanting we want Mis. We have Mellow
showing off, but he's soon taken down a peg or

(09:15):
two by Saban. Mis with blind tag comes in, but
it's soon roughed up by both of the Motor City
machine guns as they deliver double baseball slide to Mellow
and Miss. We then got Sabin flying out of the ring,
taking them both down on the outside. Wade now is
talking up the lack of cohesion between Mis and Mellow

(09:36):
and the fact that Mellow's ego has gotten them both
into trouble in this match. Meanwhile, Shelley gets a near
pin on Mis, but Mellow makes the save, breaking it
up in the nick of time. Mellow gets a near
fall after hitting the mystica. Just as Mellow looks like
putting it away, Mis tags himself in again. There are

(09:58):
some shenanigans, and from nowhere Mis nicks the win for
his team. Again. Mellow got the finisher, Mis gets the pins.
So we're following that formula, it seems here, So we
continue with these two clearly in the title picture. Apparently
this week and last week's wins gets them a number
one contender match next week, so I'm guessing that that

(10:20):
will be whoever wins the profits or MFT later on.
I'm not crazy about this, as I may have mentioned
a roughly nine million times. Okay, I know, but the
tag division is so strong, why do we need the
Mellow and Miss team And to a lesser extent, but
at the same point, the MFTs just don't think it's necessary.

(10:42):
I think the guys we have are just phenomenal and
doing such a great job. Anyway, we go backstage to
Kathy Kelly and she's got big gym with her and
she offers her congratulations and a happy birthday. She asks
him if he's had any time to process, and he
says he's had lovely message from everyone, and then Sammy

(11:02):
comes launching in and says that he's going to be
Uncle Sammy. We then get the MFTs led by Solo
coming over. Solo says when the baby arrives, it will
have a whole bunch of new uncles and tells Jimmy
that he gives him his blessing to name the kids. Solo.
Sammy tells Solo that he should be more worried about
holding onto the US title rather than naming people's kids.

(11:24):
Solo asks him what he's going to do. Is this
another underdog story, Sammy, and he says, nope, you aren't
dealing with underdog Sammy. You are dealing with Maine event
wrestle Mainia Sammy. Now this I like. I like how
they are weaving very obvious real life and Naomi's pregnancy

(11:44):
and marriage in with the storylines. I like Sammy going
for the US title. That's a nice angle too. So
this one for me at the moment, gets the double
thumbs up for sure. Next up, we've got Piper Niven
versus Charlott Flair. No entrance for Piper Ivens. She's already
in the ring with Chelsea and Alba. Ringside as always

(12:07):
typically full entrance for Charlotte, and she gets a huge
reaction from the crowd, and we don't have any Bliss
here tonight by the looks of things. Wade tells us
that due to the beatdown last week, Bliss is not
medically cleared to be here tonight, so that clears that
one up, and this one kicks off waves. Wade tells
us that Charlotte is potentially three verses one tonight, and

(12:31):
that speaks volumes for the friendship that Bliss and Flair have,
which I thought was quite a nice angle, and again
pushing Charlotte more and more as a face and getting
her more and more over, which is fine by me.
This one starts off. We've got Piperiven early on using
her power. Soon enough, Charlotte's athleticness shows through and she

(12:52):
hits a big cross body gets a close cover. We
got shenanigans from Chelsea and the distraction Niven to get
the near full Charlotte hits the moon salt and somehow
Liven kicks out. Charlotte looks in the figure eight, but
behind the back of the ref Chelsea gouges the eyes,

(13:12):
leaving Piper to hit the driver and get the win.
So that was a little bit unremarkable. As I said, Nobliss,
I guess she isn't traveling to Europe at the moment.
I half expected her to show up midway through this
match take out the Secret Hervis, but a loss for Charlotte.

(13:32):
So that's a win each for these guys, I guess.
But no postmatch beat down this time, and I think
we all know where this is headed. And I'm assuming
a tag title match for the Secret Hervis coming up
in the future, and I think that's cool. Backstage now
and we have Keana James talking to her client Julia.

(13:56):
She's telling her that she's got some opportunities. They are
interrupt by Shocking me Meeching Gosh, who says she wants
an appointment in the ring. Keiana says, if you want
to get to Juliet, you have to go through me first,
Meeching except both matches with Gusto, so that's quite cool.
As you guys now, I don't really watch an XT,

(14:17):
so I haven't seen a lot of Keanu James, so
I'll look forward to seeing her versus Meeching. I'm going
to assume Meeching wins and we get Julia versus meeching
and am I right that this will be Julia's first
title defense, so surely she's not going to drop it
straight off the bat, But never say never. Next up,

(14:39):
we've got John Cena out for what Joe Test tells
us is one of his final appearances in Europe, and
the crowd just take it up at another level even here.
They are absolutely off the chart for Sena and quite rightly,
he's milking it when he does get into the ring,
and that's okay. The crowd of making the most of

(15:00):
it too, and it's a pretty cool moment. He actually
looks pretty emotional as he gets his special ring announcement.
He finally gets to talk, but before he can say
a word, the ultimate turd that is Logan Paul comes
out and the crowd literally dies at that point, water
do They went from absolute massive highs to you know,

(15:22):
worshiping sener And as soon as Logan Paul's music kits,
it's like someone just took the air out of the
room again with the who are Your Chance? And then
the fu Logan I just noticed here there's a sign
in the crowd that says MacIntire cells Avon, which I
thought is one hundred percent the winner of the Sign

(15:45):
of the Week if we did such a thing. I
just thought that was really funny. He says, all you
Irish people are the same drunk, washed up hobos. They're
still shouting who are you? Who are you? He says,
you know who I am. I'm Logan Paul, the guy
you paid money to see, so shut up. He calls

(16:06):
Sena an actor who knows how to wrestle, and the
crowd of drowning him out. And he shouts at the
crowd because they're swearing and obviously it's getting bleeped, and
he says that because of that, no one can hear
him at home. He says he can't stand all these people,
the keyboard warriors, that call him an outsider. He says,

(16:27):
he is the best this company has and when are
we going to accept him? He calls Sena a corporate hole.
He says, if the bosses tell Sena to roll over,
he does. He says, Logan Paul does what he wants,
and if he wants attention, he doesn't have to get
naked at the oscars to get it. And to be fair,
I don't think Sena had to do that. It was

(16:47):
funny anyway, He says, who's the impostor the guy that's
done five moves for twenty three years, or the guy
who's fought on every pl The crowd really seems to
be written in Logan pool here. He seems genuinely angry,
tells Sena that he can't wait to fight him in Paris.

(17:07):
Now the crowd are chanting Wanka at Logan Paul. Sina
says Paul is an undeniable presence and a tremendous athlete.
He calls him a future WWE champion, Anna WrestleMania main inventor.
He says he believes them, but they make him upset.

(17:29):
He says, for years they've been calling him one thing.
The crowd continued to shout wanka, but the term that
he means is Logan Paul is an outsider. Sina says,
he is an outsider. He isn't an outsider. He's a disappointment.
He says. The WWE family opened up its arms to him,

(17:52):
and instead of respecting the house, Logan Paul used it
all as a marketing opportunity to buy another Pokemon card.
He says, on top of all that he has the
audacity to brag about putting his life on the line
for twenty three matches. He says, he has given his
heart and soul to WW for twenty three years, and

(18:14):
that's not Perle's. That's all events even untelevised to any references.
When he thought Shamus in ten years ago, in that
very arena with no cameras there, he says, all that time,
Paul was making vine videos with his brother. Sina tells
him he has potential, but he's selfish and slimy. Paul's

(18:35):
question is what he can take from the business and
SEEA says, it doesn't matter how fast you are, how
high you jump, or how many viral moments you make.
The people aren't stupid and they see through him. He
says he is an outsider, He's a parasite, and the
crowd I love that and start chanting parasite, which I

(18:55):
have to admit was a beautiful, beautiful moment. Seena then
goes on to drop all the names of the superstars
off the top of my head that he mentioned. Jacob Flattou,
he mentioned Randy ortun I think he mentioned that USO's
basically listing all the superstars that he thinks Logan Paul

(19:16):
has screwed and screwed the crowd out of seeing in
Legends matches as Sena you know, walks off into the
distance and Seena tells him that he's wasting his time
and Clash in Paris has now become the most important
match of Logan's life. He tells him that he better

(19:37):
bring his a game as his opponent him is the
greatest of all time and if he thinks he's going
to walk in with his drone and his salty water
product and ruin his last moments, he has another thing
coming Logan. Paul starts to push him, knocks his hat off,
but Sena ducks his punch and drops him with an

(19:59):
AA in the middle of the ring, Joe Test says
an attitude adjustment for someone who needs one, which again
contender for line of the night. There was some brilliant
stuff on comms and promos this evening that was just brilliant.
I thought this was great. This segment genuine heat for
Paul from the Dublin crowd and as I said, it

(20:20):
genuinely seemed to rattle him, which was just brilliant. A
great promo delivered from Sena. As I always say, w
is a best when it works in the gray areas
and touches on real life and the truth. And I
feel like this is exactly what we got from Senia here.
He is absolutely up there with Punk as the greatest

(20:42):
on promo, I'm so pleased that I don't have to
listen as intently to all that stuff on Raw with
the Vision and Hayman repeating themselves week after week blah
blah blah, and they get to focus on the likes
of Sina and Cody, which is quality. And then suddenly,
just like that with the Sena promo, the match a

(21:05):
clash between these two is alive and kicking. I got
no doubt that the French crowd will be equally bane
for Logan to get his head kicked in as the
Irish ones were, And God, I hope that happens backstage
now with Jade and Tiffy and a rerun of the
previous bitch between these two. Tiffy didn't need to say

(21:29):
from Jade. Jade says they can get it done tonight
and then she's coming for her title. Yawn and now
in fact yawn and eye roll. Just the now our
next match, which is profits versus MFTs. Before that, though,
we have a furious looking Logan Paul walking backstage and

(21:51):
bumping into his pal Drew, who even from backstage, gets
an absolutely massive pop. He tells Logan what the hell
was that tonight? He says he's scared of Sina. He
says it's not twenty ten Sena, it's not super Sena,
and that he has to make it right tonight after
Sina embarrassed him. Back to this tag match, and we

(22:13):
have Tongala in with Dawkins, which is a right meat
slapping fest, and then we've got Ford in with JC.
As always, we have the rest of the mft's ringside,
and the crowd wants the OTC and that is firmly
who they're charting for. Now, what do we think the
crack is with the profits? Are they back to being

(22:36):
full on faces? They've had a whistle stop tour of
every kind of persona that you could possibly have in WWE.
They've been heel weird faction with Lashley and now back
full circle with Beef. I don't get it. I'm not
sure the crowd do either. They seem to be almost
completely focused on cheering for the OTC rather than being

(23:00):
into this match. So far, we do get a close
cover for the Profits only saved by Tamatonga. JC is
still in, but Talatonga, as per running interference allows JC
to hit Tour of the Island, which Ford kicks out
of and I don't think we've ever seen anyone kick
out of Tour of the Islands before, so that's another

(23:22):
illusion dispelled this evening. We then get big gym appear
at ringside and try and even things up, but gets
totally millard for his trouble by Talatonga, and we then
get Sammy taking out solo at ringside, So with the
odds evened up, Ford hits from the heavens and gets
the pin for the whim for the Profits. So I

(23:43):
think that means next week we've got Mellow and Miz
versus The Profits for a number one Contenders match versus
The Why at six. I guess next up, we've got
Alistair Black versus Our Truth. Before we can start, we've
got a video on the Big Squeen from Our Truth
and he says that he's got good news and bad news.

(24:04):
He says the bad news is that he can't make
it tonight. He went to Dublin in the USA, but
he says not to worry. He's called in a friend
and it's going to be Priest versus Black. Now it
kicks off before the belly and rings with these two
trading blows. We haven't even started yet. There's no bell,
but we've got every ref an official out trying to

(24:25):
separate these two. They carry on brawling up the ramp
and I guess this means that we have a proper
match again sometime with these two, and that's okay from me.
We get another non update on Cody from Joe Tess,
who says they can't provide one. We haven't seen Cody
for a couple of weeks now, don't know if he's

(24:47):
coming to the show next week, which I believe is leon,
but let's see. We get another reminder of what Drew did,
and then and Drew appears, asking what's the story. He
says to Joe, do we have a medical update? And

(25:08):
he says he will update on Cody. He says that
Cody is a little bitch, but he's done him a
favor and given him more time with the thing he
loves most in the world, the title. He says that
he is one of the few people in the company
who's pinned him, and next time he pins him it
will be for his title. He says that Cody has

(25:28):
no friends left in the WWE, and then suddenly is
a very tight shot in Andrew's face. But suddenly the
crowd go absolutely wild, so you know something's coming. And
then Randy appears from behind and puts Drew on his
arse with an RKO. So good to see Randy back
and RKO and Drew brilliant. Hopefully we get to see
those two one on one soon. That would be a

(25:52):
great match. Now backstage, we've got Becky A poached by
Naya who tells her let's get one thing straight. Tiffy
and Jade need to be put in their place tonight.
Becky says that she needs a win tonight too, so
they need to be on the same page. And that
brings us to our main event tonight, which is Nia

(26:15):
and Becky versus Tiffy and Jade. We start off with
Tiffy right in it. She goes off the top to
the outside and takes out Nya and Becky looks like
Tiffy smashed the back of her head on the floor,
so hoping that she is okay. We get a tag
to Jade and she faces up to Becky, with Becky

(26:35):
getting pretty much smashed in her mouth. Jade gets a
really close cover on Becky and is looking good. Becky
gets a sneaky tag who to Nya, which Jade completely
misses and goes for the annihilator, but she manages to move.
We then get Tiffy hitting the prettiest moons or whatever,

(26:55):
and Jade follows off with a splash and finishing this
one off super quick, getting the victory for Jade and Tiffy.
I can only imagine that they were in a rush
to get down the pub, but it seemed that that
one was cut really, really short. I don't know whether

(27:16):
it was just time constraint or if there was an
injury in the early moves of the match. It really
did look like if you smashed her head off the floor.
But I might be completely wrong there, but honestly, this
was probably like three minutes tops, which was a bit disappointing.

(27:36):
I think, why would you bring Becky over from Raw
just to give us such a short and sweet match.
I mean, I guess she did deliver the killer promo
at the beginning of the night, but still it would
have been nice to see her fight a bit more,
but as it was, they cemented her heel character even
more because on top of the completely dastardly he promo

(28:00):
that she cut earlier on, she also legged it once
she tagged in Naya. She made her way away from
the ring, not really wanting very much to do with
it anyway, So that was fairly underwhelming as far as
main events go, I suppose, in my opinion, we get

(28:22):
the credit to come up at the end, but as
we go off air, we have Nick approaching Seena on
the outside, and as he does, Logan runs past him,
punching him in the face and laying him out, and
that's where we leave tonight's show. So honestly, all in all,
I thought this was a good show. It felt absolutely

(28:44):
packed with all kinds of different things. We had a
couple of really good promos. The Becky promo and the
Senor promo were in my opinion, ten out ten. I
thought that's WW some of its finest works. With both
of those promos, both Becky and Sena had the crowd

(29:06):
absolutely eaten out of the palm of their hand, and
then there was some good action tonight, some nice tag
team matches. As I said, a slightly underwhelming main event
with the women's tag match, but you know, you can't
have everything. It was a pretty strong show tonight and

(29:30):
absolutely no complaints from me. Great build to clash, and
to be fair, they showed us the card for next
week's SmackDown, so we've got the women's tag match as
predicted earlier in the show, so that's the secret Harvist
versus Bliss and Charlotte. We've got a US title match
between Solo and Sammy, and we've got the men's Number

(29:54):
One Contenders match, which will be their profits versus Mellow
and Miss to be number one contenders to take on
the White Six. So next week's show from Leon already
looking pretty good and I'm hoping that we'll get to
see Cody, but I know we've had a Randy appearance tonight,

(30:17):
so yeah, no complaints, good strong show, really happy. We'd
love to know your thoughts. Been having some chats with
a few of you on Twitter or sorry X this week,
so give me a shout and let's connect. It's always
fun to chat wrestling in the week. So that just

(30:39):
about does it for this week's show. As always, thank
you for having me in your ears, and remember, until
next time, be kind.

I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
