Speaker 1 (00:01):
What up, gang?
It is time to continue the StarWars Extreme Review with the
live action TV shows.
Last time we touched on theMandalorian and the Book of Boba
Fett, but I don't remembertalking about Season 3 of the
Mandalorian and we never gotaround to the other live action
shows.
(00:21):
And considering that Andor justconcluded his second season, I
want to go ahead and get into it, and I know there were some
folks that wanted to be on this, but I gotta stand on business
and put this out, because thewhole this is the may thing is
not gonna make a whole lot ofsense in june.
(00:42):
So please understand that I gotto stand on business.
So, with that being said, let'sgo ahead and zone in on this,
starting with the Mandalorian.
The series starts off strongwith its first two seasons as a
space western adventure forMando and his allies to protect
Grogu from the wrong hands, butstumbled in his third and final
season.
So says the critics.
(01:06):
I kind of like the characterdevelopment from Mando.
I know his name is Din Djarin, but I'm just sticking with Mando
.
I like his characterdevelopment From Mysterious
Bounty Hunter To Protect theFather figure, gina Carano, who
was known for Cara Dune.
I liked her and right now she'sgot this ongoing thing with
(01:28):
suing Disney for wrongfultermination over her opinions on
Twitter.
Last I check, I don't know ifshe's going to win.
I don't know if she's going tolose, but I guess we'll see in
the future.
I do like the performance ofBill Burr as Mayfeld and
Giancarlo Esposito as MoffGideon.
(01:51):
There was a division with thefans when Lizzo and Jack Black
was cast for the series, buthonestly, I didn't mind it, like
some folks.
They just don't like certainpeople that seem to you know the
type of celebrities where JesusChrist, they're like everywhere
, like in all these movies, tvshows, like I don't know.
(02:12):
I don't mind them.
There is the inclusion ofnotable characters such as Boba
Fett, fennec Shand, bo-katanAhsoka and a young Luke
Skywalker.
I did like that and the seriesis set up to be similar to the
MCU formula Introduce acharacter that will serve as the
(02:33):
forerunner of a decades-longuniverse.
And once Boa Fett wasintroduced in the Mandalorian,
he got his own show.
Then eventually, ahsoka got herown show and other characters
got their own show.
Then eventually, ahsoka got herown show and other characters
got their own show and, like Isaid earlier, with the
Mandalorian.
It's got a new movie coming outto finalize the series of the
(02:53):
Mandalorian Grogu.
It'll be like this crescendofor the TV show.
The main disappointment fromseason 3 was that some of the
setup not having enough payoff, such as why does Mando feel the
need to be a Mandalorian again, why Bo Katan wants to retake
(03:15):
Mandalore so bad, and why was iteasier for her to accept the
dark saber the second time itwas offered to her?
Who was it that Mandalorian kidsupposed to be?
And outside of being that sonof another mandalorian does
applaud, wait to kick in at thepenultimate episode, uh, why
should the audience care ifthere's no clear reason for the
(03:37):
characters care?
I kind of understand that, butat the same time, ultimately I
don't hate the mandalorian.
I just felt like it kind ofunderstand that, but at the same
time, ultimately I don't hatethe Mandalorian.
I just felt like it kind ofstumbled in its final season.
But then again there's themovie.
So, yeah, it may have been kindof like well, at least it's not
(04:00):
as bad as Game of Thrones, season 8.
And, by the way, I've still gotto remember that there was
eight seasons.
For some reason I keep thinkingthere was six and I'm like, oh
damn, there was eight seasons.
I kind of mentally blocked outthe last two seasons and I think
it's mainly because by thenGeorge RR Martin is mainly
(04:23):
because by then George RR Martin, he didn't have any more books
to finish off the rest of thecanon, so the two writers for
the TV show just had to wing itfor the rest of the series.
And let's just say we said whatwe said on the Game during
(04:46):
stream review.
Moving on the mandalorian, Igive it a 8.5 out of 10.
It was pretty good, just kindof stumbled in this third season
.
Now the book of boba fett, ormore like like the Mandalorian
Season 2.5, or should I say theAdventures of Tatooine's Nicest
(05:07):
Crime, lord and the MassAssassin, carries him, because
between this series and theMandalorian it's cool to see
crossovers.
But I can also understand thefrustration of some fans
noticing how things are becomingrequired to watch in order for
something else to make sense.
For instance, if you were to gofrom the mandalorian season two
straight into season three, youmight get confused why groku is
(05:30):
back with mando.
When last we checked he wentwith luke skywalker to be a jedi
, so how did he come back?
Oh, you gotta watch the book ofboba fett.
And no, they didn't do that, uh, but she did get her own show
regardless.
But it's like you had to watchthe Book of Boba Fett for it to
make sense.
(05:50):
And I did like the callback toPhantom Menace where Mando
obtaining an N1 speeder similarto Anakin's, if not the exact
same one that was in Book ofBobba fett.
But I was not like I would.
I did like the inclusion of cadbane because I'm a big fan.
(06:14):
Well, not big fan, but like Ireally liked the 3d clone war
series, like I grew up with thatshit when it was brand new
coming out on TV and sometimesI'll come home and watch the
newest episode not going along.
I kind of fell off after Igraduated high school but I
(06:38):
heard it was doing pretty good.
And you know there's the BadBatch.
We're gonna review Clone WarsBad, bad batch and all the other
animated shows eventually, butthat's beside the point.
I like cat bane being involved.
I like this wookiee namedchrysanthemum kind of reminded
me of a more aggressivechewbacca and it was like
(07:01):
watching three of my favoritestar wars bounty hunters,
including mando, have a realspace western gunfight,
mandalorians versus the pikesyndicate, because you know it
was boba mando versus cat bane.
I like that shit, oh.
And is it me, am, am I tripping?
(07:23):
Or can y'all see Fennec Shandbeing in Assassin's Creed or
Ghost of Tsushima or Ghost ofYotei?
Like, not exactly in thosegames, but like I feel like she
can lead her own Assassin's,stealth Mission-like game, like
(07:43):
just Star Wars something, and itjust kind of plays out like
Assassin's Creed or Ghost ofTsushima.
Eh, that's just my opinion,though.
I will rate the Book of BobaFett a seven, not bad, but I
(08:07):
mainly my main gripe was I justdidn't like how it seemed like
Boba Fett was being carried byFennec Shand.
And hey, I like Fennec Shand, but like bro, it's your show, do
something.
Jesus Christ, all that hypefrom episode 5 and 6 in the
(08:29):
original series of Star Warsmovies and extended lore, just
for him to barely do anything inthis series, good lord.
Moving on Obi-Wan kenobi, sometimes structure invites its
(08:49):
own destruction.
I like that line.
After the execution of Order 66, the Jedi being hunted down by
the Empire's Inquisitors,including a character that has
sparked heated criticism amongstthe Star Wars community.
Third, sister Reva.
Honestly, she was as recklessand impulsive as she was
(09:12):
ambitious.
She was impatiently wanting toexterminate all the Jedi,
especially big fish like Obi-Wan, but the others was like hey,
man, you need to chill the fuckout.
Like we appreciate yourinitiative, but calm down like
there's still a way to go aboutit.
Like you know, we can't just goaround losing composure over
(09:38):
total strangers, civilians, andyou know, and just go around
Losing composure over Totalstrangers, civilians.
You know we're the empire.
We gotta let them know that werun shit, which means that we
need to be Emotionally stoic, kind of like the Jedi.
But you know, we vent ouremotions Behind the scenes, we
(09:59):
don't come down in front of thepeons.
Where was it?
Oh yeah, obi-wan?
He was laying low as Some guyWorking for a foreman it was
some sort of construction andtattooing, while he was watching
over a young Luke SkywalkerWhile eluding the Empire.
(10:19):
I think, like working for aforeman, like it's like some
sort of construction andtattooing, like while he was
watching over a young LukeSkywalker while eluding the
empire.
Meanwhile, his uncle Owen waslike you know, I don't like you
being around here, you know, Iunderstand, but I still got a
job to do.
You know, your son being thefather of you know what?
(10:40):
Let me not.
Let me not say too much.
I won't say too much, but youknow, I gotta look, I gotta look
after the kid, just to makesure.
I'm literally just doing my job.
Leah, a very young one at that, serves a pitiful, pivotal role
(11:03):
in this series, foreshadowinghow she will make a fine leader
in the future.
She also has the kind ofinsight that's usually possessed
by grown-ups.
Speaking of, she gets chasedaround by men trying to capture
her, but she's out running likeI can't say that I hate it, but
(11:26):
it did look unrealistic, likesomething straight out of
rugrats or some shit where, likeyou mean to tell me this little
toddler is outpacing you withtheir little legs, somehow
they're fastening you, huh, Imean I guess, if you're like
(11:46):
really old and you get winded, Imean I guess you got a good
point there.
But come on, dog, like itshouldn't be that hard to catch
up with a kid.
I get it for the actress.
You know the plot would be tooconvenient, but it just looked
(12:08):
weird, dog.
And I guess the last thing Iwant to talk about Is Darth
Vader making an appearance, having a rematch with Obi-Wan,
and Obi-Wan is like I'm sorry Ifailed you, anakin, and I like,
look, it's all good fam.
Uh, I am what you made me, butI'm not your greatest failure.
(12:29):
Obi-wan, and I was like thatwas like the best part of
Obi-Wan for me and the worstpart was Reva, like just why.
I know some of us were talkingabout, oh you know, black woman
wokeness.
(12:50):
I don't care for that.
I didn't care for that and, speaking of which, I'm gonna get
into a because that was likethe main offender for Star Wars
hardcore fans.
But I'll get to that later.
Point being with Obi-Wan, if Iwere to give it a rating 6?
(13:13):
6?
Out of 10?
Yeah, because, because, asidefrom that reunion between darth
vader and obi-wan, I reallywasn't feeling this one like.
I mean, I guess it gave me someanswer to what was obi-wan up
(13:34):
to, while all those yearsbetween episode three and
episode 4, like what was hedoing?
I mean I guess I appreciatethat much, but outside of that
it just felt like it could havebeen more, almost like if there
was a season 2 like Andor, andthey added more.
(13:54):
Okay, I'll take back my 6, butfor now six decent enough to
watch, but not that great.
It wasn't all that Ahsoka, andcan I just say damn, it's been a
(14:14):
while since I've seen thaticonic plot scroll at the
beginning of a Star Wars project.
You know when they just kind ofgive you a little play-by-play
about what's been going onlately.
Like it's been a while sinceI've seen that and it was
refreshing to see that in Ahsokaand we see the gang from Star
Wars Rebels getting backtogether Once again.
We're going to talk about StarWars Rebels next year.
(14:36):
Ahsoka and Sabine Wren have astrained relationship since
Ahsoka turned her back on herapprentice and the Jedi Order at
the tail end of the Clone Wars, like right before Order 66.
And honestly, that map that theMacGuffin in this series was
(14:57):
looking like an apple, even fromAssassin's Creed.
So you know, kind of funnyuffinin this series was looking like
an apple even from assassin'screed.
So you know, kind of funny.
I was talking about fennecshamp leading an assassin
stealth like star wars game, like seriously like ea.
Whoever does star wars games, there you go, ubisoft, whoever
(15:24):
come on y'all.
I did like the inclusion of MaryElizabeth Winston as Hera,
because you know I've beenliking her ever since Scott
Pilgrim vs the World.
Of course every time I see herI'm like, oh, there's my girl
and we see Grand Admiral Thrawnreturning.
Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
(15:44):
Of course, every time I see herI'm like, oh, there's my girl.
And we see Grand Admiral Thrawnreturning, ahsoka deals with
her past, with the vision ofAnakin Skywalker, and we even
get to see adult Ezra Bridger, found by Sabine.
I kind of like the robot HuYong, who's like the voice of
logic and reasoning for the team, and balan skull, this ex-jedi
gun mercenary, assists morganelsbeth, with the help of his
(16:06):
apprentice shin hati, to restorethe empire to its former glory
under throng's leadership.
Honestly, with ahsoka, it was astep up from obi-wan.
It was a step up from Obi-Wan,not that close to I mean.
Let me put this like this Iwant to say I really like the
(16:29):
Mandalorian, so I'll at leastgive it like an 8.5, still
staying on the 8.5, boba Fett, Istill say a 7 Because, like I
said, I want to say Ahsoka.
Ahsoka Is right up there withthe Mandalorian.
(16:50):
I want to give it at least an 8.
Considering season 2 is nextyear, it might either solidify
that 8 or it might bring it down.
Or it might bring it down or itmight bring it up Because, who
knows, like as soon as I get theend.
Are you going to understandwhat I'm trying to say?
But sometimes you're thinking,ok, I just don't understand the
hype around this show.
(17:10):
But then season two come around.
Oh OK, now I get it.
Now I get it.
But now you know what?
For now, ahsoka is an 8 for me.
It was a pretty good watch.
It was a fairly good watch.
The Acolyte, oh man.
(17:34):
Ever since, during productionand marketing, this show
received heavy criticism fromonline commenters being woke.
Specific issues, including theinitial description of being
female centric.
Uh, the casting of, among thelike I mean, I don't know her
name, honestly uh, miss stenberg, who is non-binary and uses
(17:59):
both she, her and they, thempronouns.
The overall prominence of womenand people of color.
The idea that Hedlund, who isopenly queer and also the first
woman to create a star warsseries, pushing the lgbtq plus
(18:21):
agenda.
The series was called the localby some commenters and, as of
may of last year, uh, kathleenkennedy spoke out against
personal attacks directed byheadland, uh, the showrunner,
primarily by male Star Wars fans.
(18:43):
I was saying that and theshowrunner said she did not want
to exclude male fans and hopethey like the series too, and
emphasized that thosedisappointed by recent entries
in the franchise but rejectedcomplaints related to bigotry,
racism or hate speech.
Ms Stenberg said racistresponses to her casting had a
(19:09):
negative impact on her andpeople close to her later
released a song called Discoursethat criticized the intolerance
that she faced.
Some folks, like Whip Media, reporting ahead of the series
premiere, based on this TV Timeapp, that the Acolyte was the
most anticipated new series oflast year.
(19:30):
Following two episodes, it wasgetting negative ratings on
Rotten Tomatoes, metacritic IMDB, blah, blah, blah.
Full point being, I'm not goingto harp on this too much, but
when I was watching all this Iwas thinking okay, the main
(19:53):
thing was they was framing theJedi to be kind of like an
oppressive police force andturns out that with Osha and May
, they were the same person butsplit into two bodies because of
(20:14):
when she was born.
When they were born, it waslike it was under certain
conditions on their home planet.
When she was born, when theywere born, it was like it was
under certain conditions ontheir home planet and somehow
they just ended up being twinsquote unquote.
But in actuality they were likethe same person.
I did think it was kind ofinteresting how they switched
(20:35):
places at the end, and also withOsha.
No, no, it wasn't Osha, it wasMei that got her memory wiped
and went with the Jedi.
But it was Osha that went withthe stranger and ended up like
(20:59):
going to the dark side becauseit was Master Saul that murdered
her mother and whatnot.
It was a whole rigmarole.
Not gonna lie, I didn't hate it, I was prepared to dislike it,
(21:19):
but honestly it wasn't that bad.
I guess you could say if you'rejust turned off by all the
wokeness, so to speak, then Iguess you know, to each their
own.
But for me, if I were to rateall that, I were to say it goes
(21:54):
back down to a seven.
Yeah, yeah, I would say a seven.
It was okay.
Like better than I thought, notgas, well, I did like the
(22:15):
stranger.
Well, here's the thing.
This show makes darth vaderlook like oh well, you're
nothing new, like we had peoplelike you before, like turning to
the dark side and whatever,whatever.
But I did like the way, thestranger part, like that one
scene where he was fightingmultiple Jedi and not only did
(22:40):
he like carry a lightsaber withhis fucking forearm, I believe
it was, he also headbutted afucking lightsaber.
Oh bro, like I don't know whatto tell you, but it was just so
(23:01):
good.
It was more impressive than Ithought, but then again, like I
was getting kind of confused asit was going along like what the
hell is going on, but it wasactually better than I thought
you know.
So I'll stay with a sevenMoving on with Skeleton Crew.
(23:22):
So what's this?
Goonies in space?
Excuse me, goonies in space, but seriously.
Four kids from a gatedcommunity of a world that's like
Fort Knox for the galaxyaccidentally launch themselves
into space and gets caught up ina space pirate's plot to loot
(23:42):
their world and take over.
That was the weird part.
Like Buddy Rowe played by JuLaw, acting like he didn't
really know what he wanted to do.
He was like acting likePlankton in a way to where you
know, oh, oh shit.
I didn't think I'd get this far.
Do we just wanna take the moneyand leave, or would it be even
(24:04):
better to just Take over theplanet?
Like we're not trying to hurtanybody, but we'll hurt somebody
if you don't give them themoney.
Bro, bro, bro, pick a lane andstay there.
It felt like a really longDisney movie for the kids.
But hey, I'm not complaining,I'm just giving my impression.
(24:26):
I don't really have a whole lotto say after all that, like I
said in the second point, likefour kids and yeah, it was not
bad, though I would say it'slike in it's own way, a six not
(24:50):
bad, just not gas either.
A six Not bad, just not gaseither.
Speaking of gas, let's go aheadand talk about what I dare say
might be the best live actionStar Wars show by far Andor.
It does start up slow, but itbuilds up brilliantly.
(25:12):
We have Cassian Andor Searchingfor answers To his past and he
gets accosted by two assholeguards that led to Andor killing
them and becoming a wanted man.
You have Zero, who's like thisImperial fanboy, and it's really
(25:32):
funny how he essentially wantedjustice for those guards.
But if he had just left thiswhole thing alone he wouldn't
have died.
And the funny, the funniestpart about it was he did all
that searching for cassian.
Andor finally finds him, fightshim, almost kills andor.
(25:54):
But andor just looked at himlike who the hell are you?
And dude was just taken soaback that he was like wait, you
don't know who I am.
I'm like yeah, dude, you'relike a nobody in the grand
scheme of all this and then hejust gets shot unceremoniously,
like damn, like, just go to showthat you didn't matter that
(26:18):
much.
Speaking of mattering, luthen, who is the real architect of the
rebellion, was living thisdouble life as an antique dealer
who wanted to expose the empireand whatnot, working with, uh,
senator mon martha.
(26:39):
Uh that was secretly fundingthe rebellion while managing her
political life and attendingher daughter's wedding between
her, luthen and or and a bunchof people.
It felt like a Spy thrillerOnce again slow burn, but once
you get to the Good parts, itgets really good.
There were like some speechesand some dialogue that I really
(27:04):
liked, like, for instance, theaxe forgets, but the tree always
remember Only one way out byKeanu Lloyd, who's also being
portrayed by uh andy circus.
Great performance, by the way.
I I'd say that, um, the prisonepisode, season one, episode 10,
(27:25):
was my favorite season one.
Uh, episode 9 and 10 of season2 Is my favorite out of those
and at this point, andor will beknown for His epic speeches
that Lights a fire within hislisteners, whether it's the
characters in the show or theaudience to the end, like, for
instance, when Cassian'sadoptive Mother died and they
(27:50):
had this whole hologram Messageat her funeral and she gave this
epic speech and the funny partis that the hologram was kind of
glitching out but she was likesaying fight the empire.
But if you look closely, withthe way her lips were moving, it
sounded like she was sayingfuck the empire.
(28:12):
But disney got like dub overthat and I she said fight the
empire, like right, right, right, right, right.
Another thing is the wholething with bix like, like you
know, almost getting assaultedNow going on.
(28:36):
I was like I kind of didn'texpect that in a Star Wars show
and that's the kind of thing Ithink Star Wars is for everybody
.
Some say Star Wars is for kids.
Star Wars is for everybody Atthis point because you know,
between the Acolyte and othershows, I'm like at this point,
star Wars is for everybody atthis point, because you know,
between the Acolyte and othershows, I'm like at this point,
star Wars is for everybody.
Anybody can get into Star Warsand the hardcore gatekeepers
(29:01):
don't like that.
But yeah, like Andorra waspretty good.
You know, cassian just wantedto find answers, find his sister
and what not.
And after all this, by the way, luthien, he sacrificed himself,
(29:27):
he burned away his future for asunset, he'll never see almost
the same thing that Cassian endsup doing.
So he burned away his futurefor a sunset.
He'll never see Almost the samething that Cassian ends up
doing.
And I like how that one phraseRebellion is built on hope was
passed around where Cassianheard it from that one guy.
And then Cassian told Generoso, and then Generoso said the same
(29:48):
thing in Rogue One.
And all this leads up to RogueOne, which, by the way, is still
my favorite Spinoff show, spinoff movie From the Star Wars
series.
I was really digging Andor.
(30:09):
I was just.
Once again it just came offkind of slow, but when we got
there, we fucking got there.
So with Andor I would say a 9out of 10.
Once again it just started offa little too slow for me, but we
(30:32):
got there.
But that was my two cents onall the live action star wars tv
shows.
I'm gonna go ahead and closethis one out.
So go ahead and have yourself agood morning, good afternoon,
good evening, good night andultimately, take it easy.
Remember that great things arecoming, so stay nerdy.
(30:53):
This is the way.
This is the may I have spoken.
