That just concluded his seasonrun, and I gotta say, it's
fairly impressive.
And we're gonna go ahead anddive into that.
But um, first things first, I dothank Kogie Gasu and Professor

And with water magic and eternalyouth, he survives countless
wicked concoction for 20 years,becoming one of the most
powerful magicians ever.
Rio's fate shifts at when hemeets Abel, a genius knight,
thrusting him into MagicalSociety's spotlight.
Thus, the water magician's walladventure begins.

Alright, first thing first.
Good opening, ending, andopening theme songs both have a
soft and relaxing tone.
The artwork swings between beingfairly good to surprisingly
detailed, you know, with the uhspell cast and the uh way they
animate the water and uh fireand whatnot.

I like that.
I like this.
And the story gets right to thepoint from Rio getting
incarnated by the angel Michaelto the pacing of the fly.
Not too fast, but not too slow.
It's the right amount ofexposition without too much work
style, or at least for most ofthe episodes.
Like I think they kind of dumpmost of the exposition in the

And in this world of five, only20% of its population can cast
spells, which supposedly adds away of realism to the story.

I actually really enjoyed this show.
Um, a lot more than I thoughtwas gonna be.
See, I I thought you was gonnaprobably do anime lightning with

So I was like, okay.
Well, I mean, people still saidit was good, so I was like, you
know what?
Let's go ahead and check it out.
And I will say, yeah, like youmentioned the pacing, it was

pretty straight.
To me, by the time I startedwatching this, I had already did
what four of the most recentsolo reviews, and I all every
single one of them is an isekai.
I am isaked out, bro.
I'm sorry, I'm so isakai out.
So this would got to the point.

It wasn't one of those oneswhere it starts off like, oh,
they were living their life, andthen it got isaked.
No, it went straight to thepoint of, so you died, I know,
instantly flashes back to TruckCoon.
And I'm like, of course, yougotta give Truck Coon props.

Um, and he's like, Yeah, I doremember that.
And then what gets me is thefact of how they did this one.

world, you just got accidentallydropped.
He asked him, he says, Oh, Ilook at your file, and there's
no hero summons for you, there'sno thing that you have to do or
nothing like that.
I'm just told to um reincarnateyou in another world.
And um, so what would you like?

I'm sitting here like that wouldbe very interesting.
That's like that's that's whatkind of hooked me for a moment
because unlike all these otherones where you're forcibly
thrown into these things, thisis one where it's like you got
to choose like a video game.

I think of like another anime that I just
recently watched where it hadthat other option to it.
Oh, he oh, in fact, I think itwas um the Intergalactic Evil
Empire uh anime that did foranime lightning to where he
could have the main characterLiam, he could have been in any
world, but he chose the worldwhere magic and meta exist.

So yeah, I was like, okay,that's interesting.
He got to choose.
That already hooked me for one.

And I'm like, okay, it'sstarting to feel like free arena
a little bit, like it kind ofrelaxed, kind of chill.
You know, maybe it's gonna havesome really good action moments,

but otherwise, this is gonna bea very simple story about this
kid living a humble life, justkind of chilling out, you know,
and then like you know, give himgetting the moment to talk to
the dragon.
That was interesting.
I saw that little clip onYouTube a while back, and it was
like, yeah, he's like, oh man, II really enjoyed our discussion.
It's like okay, and we'll divefurther into it, but otherwise,

I like how the other thing aboutit is that I got a lot of vibes
from Stranger La Frontier in thefact that with his robe,
everywhere he goes, certainpeople recognize his robe, and
he's like, Oh, the fairy kingmust have really liked you.

That was a that was a nice fit.
I ain't gonna lie to you.
It's heavily is actually heavilybased on Indian in India.
There's actually a um not awedding guard, but it's a high
noble guard.
Um, like a high, like if you'rea high-ranking official with a
lot of money to it, a lot ofmoney to you.
But when he takes off the toprobe, you can see the how he
wears the sash.

It's actually based onto that.
So that's one little tidbit thatI thought was pretty
interesting.
I was like, oh, okay, that'sactually from India.
That's actually really cool.

So I wonder what the Fairy King drip talking about.
If his drip is good.

I mean, the Fairy King was wearing armor the whole
time, so I don't know.
So it's a good part of thething.
I mean, they give me some drippyass armor.

The fairy king is who we sawwith the smoke coming out his
face, coming out the um thearmor and stuff, because fairies
are so high, supposedly so highmagic or something that you
could like almost nobody can seethem type of thing.

I really I started reading themanga right after I finished

But we started as a light novel that I converted

that where they didn't have torely on fan service to keep the

know, because we did come up alittle suspicious when uh

We appreciate it, but it was like it can't, yeah,
it came unexpected because bythis by this time, everything
else is like you even if there'stension, things have been
handled somewhat peacefully,type of thing.
No one has like died yet.
Then all of a sudden, boom, sheincinerates the night's first
death, and you're like, yo,wait, whoa.
And it's not like a simpledeath, it's straight up violent,

and you're like, Oh, oh, thisanime rolling like that now?
Wait a second, and then likeafter that moment, it starts
getting bloody.
That's when you start seeinglike dismemberment, heads
rolling and stuff like that, isright after this moment.
So I was like, that was reallyinteresting.
Pacing that they did that.
I was like, Whoa, okay.
But it got me interested.
I'm like, but it's Phelpshiding.

This dude sitting here, like,y'all just straight up marking
people like it ain't nothing.
But then at the same time,that's the guards' fault.
The guards could have stayedalive and they left them alone.

It's more like um what happenedwas the guards were harassing
this girl, like, hey, come havefun with us.
And then I guess like herbrother or friend was like, hey,
stop it, Yammero, that type ofshit.
And then Phelps showed up.
Well, Rio was watching, he waskind of helping, you know, but
the ice managed like tripping upone of the guards, but um,

Phelps was like doing most ofit, like trying to intimidate
the um knight to run away andwhatnot.
So really Phelps was just tryingto help.
But then the knights were like,Oh, hey man, we didn't like the
way you embarrassed us on thatlast time, so we're gonna get
you a now.
But then that's when Shinna likeincinerated themselves like,
yeah.

So I mean, to be fair, thoseknights uh did it to themselves.
Like, all they had to do isleave those people alone.

As you left them alone, he wouldstill be alive, wouldn't have to
worry about nothing.

But uh, I know we kind of like skipped ahead a
little bit because I was gonnatalk about Phelps a little bit.
I was gonna talk about thatparticular moment, but uh let's
start with episode one, and I'mgonna talk about uh Rio Why
Matter because like I'm gonnawith these uh episodes, like I'm
gonna do something a little bitdifferent because first of all,
I need to go back to my rootswhere I like to analyze the

characters more than anythingbecause I feel like without the
characters, there's no story.
So I like to notice thecharacters.
So that's why I'm also sayingthat I don't want to keep up
with too many characters thatI'm probably not gonna be too
invested in anyway.
So um I'm gonna talk about someof the episodes and I might um
do my impression on some of thecharacters that's notable.

But let me go ahead and uh startwith episode one.
The first episode played outlike an RKG game, you know, like
you said with uh Shango LotsFrontier.
I felt that.
I'm like, yeah, it kind of feltlike a video game a little bit
where we watch the maincharacter venture from his home
with barely any clothing.
He's fighting monsters, he'sobtaining this rare sword from a

dull hand, and he's masteringhis magic as he goes.
Uh Rio, uh bro, I listen.
Rio is the kind of guy thatwants to slow and ease life out
of the out in the boonies, butof course, external factors
forces him to get involved withthe plot.
He's not overpowered right away.

He does have to learn how to useand experiment with his magical
ability and to study what he'llbe going up against during his
journey, making him a realisticprotagonist of all of them.
He's not limited to castingwarden spells, but he trained
himself to cast ice spells aswell.
He implements this strategicapproach to his battles rather

than with brute force and blindoptimism.
He gains the sword of the fairyking from Dolehan, which can be
enchanted with warden ice magic.
He also gets the drip fromDolehan before he finally leaves
his um little home.
And I gotta say, I like Rio, butthe second half, like he really

got me in the second half towhere, like, this dude, he got,
I won't say he was cocky becauseif he's like real, it's it's
kind of like uh Kevin Samuels onFrench and PTM set one time to
where it's not cocky if you knowwhat you're doing.
It's called confidence.

Oh, he does come off confidentto a point to where, okay, you
kind of flex a little bit, likeyou know, he kind of
condescending, it's more likely,because he was like being
condescending towards the demonprince and to Oscar, which by

y'all were talking about hisfight with Oscar, and I'm like,

But um, episode two, uh, excuseme while I tried to jump to my

Uh Rio comes across Abel, whocrash went onto shore with a
destroyed boat.
There were some smugglers onboat, but they all died.
Uh, after helping him, Riobenches outside the forest with
the young knight with the newclothes from Dolehan, and Rio
defeats some uh go alongs withgiant ice cubes.

Then the duo kills some wipers.
Now, with Abel, Abel was okay.
Like he's friendly with Rio, andhis knowledge of the outside
world helps with Rio beinguninformed of things such as
money.
Uh, I guess you could say thatAbel's the sensible one in
contrast to Rio being consideredan oddball at certain angles.

Like he's rather popular at hometo a point where the gill and
the town folk would have a bitif Abel actually died during
that shipwreck.
But uh, turn it over to you, uh,how are you feeling about those
first two episodes?

I appreciate this opportunity.
So uh I want to talk about alittle bit more of Abel because
there is a thing about how theyhow so in most anime well, most
TV shows, how they do things ishow they would showcase how
powerful the protagonistactually is.
One of the ways that sometimesthey do it is involving the
protagonist goes to the school,goes somewhere, and then all of

a sudden showcases that he'smore powerful than everyone
else, type of thing.
But it's interesting how theydid it with using Abel because,
like you mentioned, Abel seemedalright, and that was a very key
point in the show because Abelis more than alright, Abel is
extremely powerful in that town,not just in that town, the

Crimson Knights is well knownfor their thing.
He is the leader of the CrimsonKnights, and during their whole
travels, Abel is shown so muchweaker than Rio that you're just
like, oh, it's just a simpleescort mission.
So then imagine that type ofescort mission.
You show up, the person youescorted is supposed to be

extremely powerful after you'vegone through all of this saving
him per se.
Remember, Rio never even, Imean, not Rio, Abel never knew
Ryo he fought with the sword.
He was on a side, yeah.

Like I like how he yeah, he assumed that uh oh,
you're a magician, to bewielding a stab, and then Rio's
like, no, like I didn't need astab before, and I kind of like
the sword on God, so I'm I'mgood.

Exactly.
So that's one of the things islike that's a very interesting
pacing that they chose into thisbecause we assume Rio was
probably like maybe a knight intraining or something like that,
or you know, he was on amission, but he's not that
powerful.
So for him to show up and weshow up to the town and find out
that he's one of the mostpowerful there, you're like, yo,

wait, how strong is Rio?

Like that was a very interesting way to do things.

See, the the funny thing is, I like how with Rio,
he that's why I said that he'snot overpowered right away.
It's like he has greatpotential, but it's not to a
point where he's doing so wellthat it's just ridiculous how
powerful he really is right outof the gate.
It's like, okay, he definitelylike he's coming up with his own

uh spells and whatnot.
So it's like he's builtdifferent, but at the same time,
oh bro, oh man, I I can't waitto talk about episode four, but
uh yeah, like he doesn't seemoverpowered right out of the
gauge, it's more like hedefinitely have like strong
potential to um stand out evenbeyond um some of the veteran

Now, the only thing closing outbecause I don't have much for
the first two episodes per se,um, aside from what I've already
explained in my normal opening,the only other thing that I
really found very interesting islike the fairy king himself.
This is one of those ones whereI'm like, I feel like this uh
this mangaka played a lot ofLegend of Zelda Twilight

Because I kept getting a wholelot of vibes from like the old
warrior.

Like, it just felt like somesort of RPG.

Yeah, that's what it felt like with the Fairy King,
especially considering the factthat like every single time that
he would fight him, or he wouldget um, he would get not only
get stronger and get specialskills, but he would also get
like an upgrade, whether he gotan art he got the armor, he got
the special sword.
And that was the same thing thatyou would get from fighting the
old knight.
He'd throw you special skills.

So I was like, this got a lot ofstrong Legend of Zelda vibes.
I'm like, I think I really mightlike this anime.
I'm like, you know, I'm I'mgonna keep watching.
And I was very heartbroken thatafter the second episode, you
don't see the very king.

It's like darn.
I looked it up too because I wascurious.

From what we've seen so far, he doesn't come back, he
just keeps getting mentioned,and that's it.
Man, I remember getting strongerand then they fight again.
I want I wanted to see Rio go tothe fairy king because Leonora
wound up mentioning him.

You know, he keeps gettingmentioned.
I'm like, after that fight, butthat's a little bit later on.

Rio fighting um the fairy king would be a nice
callback if they fight again.
In addition to that, it's likehim fighting Lord Einste from
Overlord.
It's like an overwhelming power,but he also wants to teach you,
like, you know what I mean?

So, I mean, this is dope.

The first two episodes, ofcourse, um, it's just getting to
know the character, seeing whattheir motivation is like, and
getting to know what his willis.
So it's a good first fewepisodes.

three.
The duo arrives to at Abel'shometown loom, and while people
are chatting with Abel, uh, Rioencounters uh the one elf uh
that his new campaign alludedto, who immediately knows that
he has the fairy king sword andclothing.
Rio wants to venture into thedungeon, but he had to register

with the guild and take on anintroductory course with a few
more newbies.
Now, let's go ahead and talkabout some of the other
characters.
Like, there's Amon, he's a16-year-old boy who joined the
guild after his parents died.
Uh Nils and Eto are adventuresthat.

Uh Lynn, Warren, and Rhea,they're members of Abel's
Crimson Tour Party.
Uh Lynn is a magician that's themain nuance based on how Rhea is
able to do all the feats thatnot even the best of the best
can manage.
Warren is the quiet fightertype, and Rhea is the priestess
type, you know, the healer, Iwanted to say.

Uh, we got Hugh, theguildmaster, uh, Phelps, uh
nobleman of Loon, who leads theWhite Brigade.
Uh, Shenna, who's underneath himas a firecaster.
Sarah is the blonde elf chipthat Rio encountered.
She explains that elves are halffairies, sort of.

Which explains why she'sfamiliar with Rio's clothing and
sword.
She's very friendly with him,considering him important to
her.
She even gets a little jealousof how casual Rio is to Abel,
but formal to her.
A capable swordsman, too.

theory, like I feel like uh MiraJane right now.
Like, I got an anime theory fory'all.

those citizens from the Knights,harassing a girl with Rio Loki
helping.
The knights seek revenge, butthey were burned to the ground
by the right-hand Sheena.
Uh, meanwhile, the dungeon isclosed to the public while the

investigation is being made.
In episode seven, Avon fights ademon prince on the 40th floor
of the dungeon until our boy Riocomes in heroically from the
ceiling with a little aurafarming.
You know, that one drop of waterbefore he appeared.

I feel now it was kind of nice.

It was kind of nice.
And in episode eight, Riodefeats the demon prince with
ease and confidence.

wealthy that he just hand outquests to his friends, being

I watched that that was actuallythe case where the main
character she was going throughsome stuff, and the issue that

as the demon princess or as thedemoness.

He had mentioned before that hedoes fight the sword, but he's
ner he does he know that his uhswordsmanship is nowhere on the
same level that his magic is.
And again, he's still amagician.
That's just kind of what it is.
But his sword play is good, butit doesn't have a normal name,

But everyone has a form that'sthe meat.
That seems to take like a formto it.
Every story style, every form ofevery fencing has a form.
You have a base that you kind ofwork around because if you're
too wild, you have you youbecome unpredictable, which is

good, but you also areunpredictable to yourself.
You don't have a form to baseyourself back into, you don't
have anything to calm yourselfdown, you don't know what you're
going to do next.
So that's one of the thingsabout street fighting.
Street fighting is fully random.
Most people feel feel thatstreet fighting is fully random,
but everybody has their ownrhythm.
And because street fighting isso everybody forms their own

special rhythm to themselves,you can't become predictable,
which is something that startedhappening with the fight with
Leonora.
Because with the fight withLeonora, what happened was it
was like, oh yeah, he came outthat fight unscathed, but he
admitted himself if he did nothave the Fairy King's armor, he
would have had a hole in hischest.
So he wound up taking an intenseamount of damage that he had to

get healed.
And even they mentioned it, likeyou of all people taking damage,
that must have been an intensefight that you were in.
Because we can't imagine yougetting hurt.
So that's one thing, and thenSarah found his rhythm very
quickly.
She even complimented, she said,You did very great, but she
found his rhythm very quicklyand was easily able to counter.

So that's one thing about it,and I like that you had
mentioned that earlier, too.
He's not overpowered yet, hestill has ways of like working
his way through, but his biggestuh weakness is not his magic,
it's his sword play.
He's played with magic enough toget really powerful there, but
his sword play, he can't defendhimself.

He's he's very from Mob Psycho 100 to where, yeah,
he's like a very powerfulpsychic, but he doesn't have
very strong, like physicalstamina and whatnot, and that's

Uh Nils explains the village isprotected by a guardian beast
living in the woods near ashrine.
And after successfullydestroying the goblin nest, uh
Nazu informs them the villageworship one of the six forgotten
goddesses, the French model.
Uh the guardian beast is afenrir named uh Nikusin.

Uh, hope I pronounced itcorrectly, who reveals the Fenry
are relatives of fairies, so heautomatically lights Rio as a
student of the fairy king.
Uh Nikusin reveals that theskeletons are guards or the arch
skeleton he imprisoned in theshrine.
And after destroying the archskeleton, they discover the
shrine has a statue of the earthmother holding a broken crystal.

Uh a whole bunch of other thingsgoing on.
Essentially, it was like thatone episode where it seemed like
because Rio had like the FairyKing's uh attire and sword, it's
almost like he was just able toblaze right through the plot of
this episode.

and Amon were on the same questafter naming their party room

The guardian beast is supposedto have power to be able to
protect the village, like theguardian beast would have been
able, and Kumin would have beenable to take care of the arch

That's the reason why they'renervous about having other
people showing up and findingout that there's a guardian

During the attack on the party,uh Fiona gets comrades of safety

Uh Oscar arrives in time towitness an attacker has

Uh Abel sees them and issurprised that they know each

Sarah becomes jealous.
Rio is casual with Abel and heis formal with her.
Uh Rio asks Abel for helpfinding a large house with a
garden so that he can beginexperimenting with alchemy.
But due to the certain noblerestrictions, Rio is only

offering a farmhouse outside thecity walls, but he buys without
any delay.
Meanwhile, the angel of Michaelis certain that now Rio and
Oscar have fought once and theyare destined to do so again on a
much grander scale.
So the peaceful life Rio wantedis unlikely to last much longer.

First of all, that was likereally drippy as hell to where

One thing they did mention um aswell, too, is that it is
actually very common for a watermage to be able to use ice
magic.
It does take practice to get tothat point, but it is actually
very possible for it.
It's just not using ice magic onthe scale that he uses it, is
the thing that gives me.
But I love also the fight withLeonoro, I like that one the

best in this season because ofthe fact that Rio was put to
edge.
He had to pull out all the stopsthat he had.
He started because he startedoff using just ice magic, and
every time we see him fight,it's mostly ice magic that he
uses, except when he foughtagainst the devil.

point, we gotta do like a wholeseparate season for different
