I think it is safe to say that the challenges parents face in the twenty-first century are far more complex than the challenges parents faced even one or two generations ago. What do we tend to blame? Technology!

In reality, technology has always been the bane of parental existence. The world has always been going to hell in a hand basket. How many generations of parents can relate to that feeling when they stumble across their children’s magazines or comics books, music albums or playlists, movie interests or YouTube subscriptions. How many times have we sighed and rolled our eyes in that “hell in a hand basket” sort of way? I think we all can relate.

But there is something different about the world today that just didn’t exist 30 years ago, or at least to the capacity that it does today. That difference is how digital our world has become. So, although parents have always battled the evolution of tech, the challenges parents face today due the rapid evolution and vast presence of tech is unparalleled to generations before.

In this episode of Therapists’ Take, Carrie and Josh are going to talk about the real parental challenges of raising children in a digital world. This episode will follow the following format:

- Why are parents concerned about the advancements of tech? Why does this characterize parents for generations?

- What’s the differences between digital natives and digital immigrants? Why does it matter?

- What are unhelpful responses? The problem with tech-shaming.

- What are optimal responses? The power of relationships and healthy attachments.
