Episode 75 — THE GREAT COMMODITY
In this episode of Think Pieces and Conversations, I unpack how modern society treats us as the primary resource. We start with a shocking story out of Vietnam — 86 million bank accounts deactivated after people refused to hand over biometric data — and ask the obvious question: how much privacy and autonomy must we surrender to stay connected to the systems that run our lives?
From there I go deeper. Governments and corporations don’t just ask for concessions — they incentivize them. They offer comfort, convenience, and safety while slowly eroding freedoms. Those conveniences (the services that feed our dopamine loops) become leverage: if access is threatened, people will trade liberty for comfort. Too often, we accept these trade-offs without seeing the Trojan horse behind them.
I also connect the dots to emerging tech like Neuralink — why merging humans with machines isn’t just a tech debate, but an existential one. If the path to “better” is actually a way to fuse human behavior, biology, and even consciousness with corporate-controlled systems, we risk stepping into a far more controlled, commodified future.
This episode is a call to wake up: think critically about the incentives you’re offered, read the fine print on the systems you participate in, and consider what comfort is costing you in freedom.
