When life gets heavy, sometimes the best we can do is make a hard day "nicer" rather than "good." That's the powerful distinction at the heart of our new segment and hashtag: #4WINS4YINZ

Drawing from behavioral science and psychology, we're introducing a simple framework to help you notice your daily progress across four dimensions:

  •  spiritual (what gave you peace or purpose)
  • physical (how you cared for your body)
  • mental (what helped your mind)
  • connection (who you meaningfully engaged with)

Research shows that celebrating these small wins actually rewires your brain, releasing dopamine and building momentum even when circumstances feel challenging.

We share our own recent wins—from singing in the car with windows down to giving a duck to a nurse as a gesture of appreciation—demonstrating how these tiny victories don't need to be flashy to make a difference.

The beauty of this practice lies in its simplicity: by acknowledging what's already working, you train your nervous system to recognize progress rather than perfection.

Your wins matter, and we want to hear them! Tag us with #4WINS4YINZ on social media or visit thrivingyinzers.com/4wins to share your daily victories. We might even feature your wins in future episodes.

Remember, thriving takes all of you—spiritual, mental, physical, and connection. Start noticing your four wins today, because tiny steps forward still move you in the right direction.

Sherry (00:05):
If you've been here from the beginning, you've heard on
our first episode that thispodcast was partially born out
of words my father left behindwhen he passed away the simple
words that this is.
It have a nice day because youonly go around once.
We want to take pause and saythere's a difference between a
good day and a nice day.
When life gets heavy, when thehard, messy or downright

(00:28):
terrible stuff happens, it mightnot feel fair to call it a good
day, but even then you can makeit at least a nicer one.
How?
By noticing your small wins, the ones that help keep you
going even when things are farfrom okay.
So we're starting a new segmentthat's going to be part of
future episodes, somethingsimple but powerful to help you

(00:50):
pause, reset and realize you'remaking progress.

It's called #4WINS4YINZ: Spiritual, mental, physical, (00:53):

Sherry (01:27):
Spiritual, physical, mental, connection.

Jodi (01:31):
because thriving takes all of you.

Sherry (01:33):
So why wins matter?

Jodi (01:35):
Before we break it down, let's talk about why this even
matters.
You've probably heard thephrase "celebrate your wins, but
it's more than justmotivational talk.
It's grounded in research.

Sherry (01:46):
Behavioral scientists like BJ Fogg, who teaches at
Stanford, have done a ton ofwork on this.
He says that celebrating smallwins helps rewire your brain.
It tells your nervous system"this matters Do more of this.
That little moment ofcelebration actually releases
dopamine and that helps buildmomentum.

Jodi (02:05):
It's giving your brain evidence that you're making
progress even when life stillfeels messy.

Sherry (02:10):
And psychologists have studied this too and found that
people are more motivated andcreative when they feel a sense
of daily progress and even tinywins count.

Jodi (02:20):
So when we say , we're not just making you a checklist,
we're giving you a framework tonotice progress and build
resilience.

Sherry (02:29):
So, the four wins- Here's how we break it down-
four ways you might have alreadyshown up for yourself today,
without even realizing it.
First, a spiritual win.

Jodi (02:39):
What gave me peace or purpose today?
It doesn't have to be dramatic-could be a prayer, a deep
breath, a song that centered you.

Sherry (02:47):
A physical win- How did I care for my body?
How did I move it, feed it orrest it?
It's honoring your body andwhat it needed.

Jodi (02:55):
A mental win- What helped my mind today?
Clarity, focus, a mindset shift.
This could be anything fromjournaling to just letting go of
one single anxious thought.

Sherry (03:08):
And the last one- a connection win.
Who did I connect with?
Someone I love, or even astranger.
This one's especially powerfulwhen life feels isolating.

Jodi (03:18):
My four wins yesterday: spiritual- singing in the car
with the windows down.
Physical- taking five minutes tostretch when I got out of bed
in the morning.
Mental- reminding myself thatyou don't have to rush healing.
Connection - picking up thephone and calling my aunt just
to say hello.

Sherry (03:39):
And mine?
spiritual win was taking a fewminutes to myself to just sit
in quiet.
Physical - taking a walk with afriend.
Mental - as a parent of a seniorthis is a hard time of
transition, but I have been verymindful of staying in the
moment and taking it all in.
And connection- I jumped on theduck trend and gave a duck to

(04:03):
the nurse at my doctor'sappointment to let her know that
someone gives

Jodi (04:09):

Jodi (04:29):

is built.
Your nervous system takesnotice, your mindset shifts.
You stop waiting for a perfectday and start finding the good
that's already there.

Sherry (04:44):
So take a breath.
Ask yourself what gave me peaceor purpose?

Jodi (04:49):
How did I care for my body ?

Sherry (04:52):
What helped my mind?

Jodi (04:54):
and who did I connect with ?
Those are your wins.
